You mean emails when the forum is updated? You can get those, but you must have supplied an email addy.

Plus on any thread, if you scroll down to the bottom you'll spot the little check-box symbol and "Subscribe"- which is how you can subscribe to threads.

I wouldn't mind the ability for the forum to auto-subscribe you to threads you post in, but I have yet to find any way to do it on my end of things.

I realize that it seems a tad pointless because if you're on NationStates already then why bother with subscription posts... but I think it would be kind of neat for a telegram subscription ... I'd use it at least.

I also wanted subscription to threads. But subscriptions to individual forum sections - every forum should have that option. And you how know that I thought of it, and how forums don't have it, and how odd that is? That's because I'm a fucking god in a world of machines, clamoring at the possibility of a single thought the collective does not have. Unless forums already do this.

And why the hell do we have two forums! The Jolt one wasn't enough? I mean, now I'm going to have to go through two general forums. Actually, I don't care, although if there was a way I could make it go directly to general, that would be nice.

Because of this:

Just one question: Why?

1. We didn't want to wake up one day to discover Jolt had shut down the NS forum. Jolt has served us pretty well over the years, but has lately become much more aggressive at monetizing their userbase.
2. Their forum doesn't integrate with the game properly. For many people, it works fine. But for others, it doesn't work at all, meaning they just can't post there. This is a long-running problem and we never seemed to get any closer to fixing it.
3. Jolt's moderation policy is changing; for example, they banned an NS user for criticizing a Jolt game. We feel that open debate is an essential part of NationStates, and want to preserve that.
4. We can earn revenue from ads displayed in this forum, to help support the running costs of the game. Jolt doesn't pay us anything for the traffic we send their way.
5. Jolt has been steadily building up the amount of advertising in the forum, with the latest addition being ads actually inside posts. We feel this significantly detracts from the forum's usability. We were also concerned about what might be next.

Thread subscription is there for single threads, but apparently it isn't working for some people like myself and Nathicana. But that's to be expected and all since the forum is still in Beta.

Yes, you don't need to reply before you can subscribe. Just scroll to the bottom and click the "subscribe button" according to the picture.

I was used to it being on the top. I had not occured to me to use control+f, because I am used to it being in a menu. Circumcision is criminal.

You don't get the option to subscribe to email notification unless you've supplied an email addy in your nation's "Settings". DLN, you have, but for some reason the forum couldn't see it... maybe because you were in early and I hadn't added that code yet. I've synced you up manually now, so it should work.

If this affects anyone else, clearing then re-entering your email addy in your nation's "Settings" should do the trick.

Personally, I never liked auto-subscribed, as there's plenty of threads I post in as a mod where I don't really care to follow.
