History

Postby Luciratus » Wed Nov 24, 2010 12:25 pm

History

La República Temprana
300 BF - 25 BF

In 300 BF, the region which would one day comprise Luciratus was under the hegemony of the Spanish Empire. However, the reign of the Spanish viceroys would soon end. In 228 BF, Ephraim Lifaeus, a wealthy military officer and revolutionary with close ties to the mercantile elite of Europe, gathered a diverse, multi-national mercenary army comprised of Portugese slavers, Italian adventurers, English pirates, Jewish immigrants, Greek retainers, disillusioned Mestizos, African slaves, and French and German deserters. Utilizing ships supplied by close friends and donated by foreign interests, his army began the voyage to the New World in the hopes of establishing a Democratic (and to some extent Jewish) homeland far from the oppressive regimes of Europe. In 226 BF, Lifaeus's forces clashed with the Spaniards of Hispanola and were forced to flee the Spanish Caribbean armada. Nearly half of the mercenary army had drowned in the battle and more than sixty percent of their ships had been sunk. After the ill-fated naval Battle of Hispanola, the surviving soldiers fled to the remote areas of Colombia and attempted to regroup and formulate a strategy.

Los Años de la Tiranía
25 BF - 7 BF

Nazario Fernando Clemente y Vasquez, El Jefe Eterno

Nazario Fernando Clemente y Vasquez was born the fifth of six children on January 1, 52 BF (Before Foundation). His parents were fanatical Catholics and such zealotry was indelibly imprented on the young Nazario. As members of the lower rung of society, his family utterly despised the oligarchic mercantile class who effectively ruled Panama. Vasquez Senior had served in the military with distinction, and Nazario was expected to follow in his father's foot-steps. Despite this, Josefa Elena Carrano y Vasquez (his mother) urged him to attend seminary, which he did dutifully. By October 5, 32 BF, the twenty year old Vasquez had been certified as a priest. Upon the assertive prodding of his father, Nazario bitterly entered the military, acting chiefly as a field doctor and preacher. It was in this capacity that he first began to oppose the legitimate government in earnest due to what he perceived as grave societal injustices compounded by a refusal to ameliorate the disease, starvation, and lack of resources which plagued many quarters. Elections were consisently bought by the wealthy elites, and little was done to alleviate the plight of the destitutely impoverished masses. This growing resentment of the established authorities led him to sympathize with notable military figures, who likewise loathed the oligarchic government.

One man in particular, Generalisimo Alvaro Felipe Mendoza, influenced the fervent young dissident. By May 22, 20 BF, Vasquez had been promoted to the position of coronel. While attending a private military function, he listened so astutely to the speech of Mendoza on the subject on inequality that the general later pulled him aside to converse privately. Mendoza discovered that the young colonel was versatile, intelligent, extremely loyal, and passionate. Vasquez soon began attending such functions with unsettling regularity. Thus, it is not entirely suprising that he aligned himself with Mendoza, when the latter launched a bloody coup against the government "on behalf of the common people". The Mendozistas ambushed the National Assembly while its members convened in the capitol and executed the politicians present for treason against the population following a military tribunal. Despite this, a number of Demócratas managed to escape and garner support from various mercenary forces, the navy, and a small portion of the army. In the ensuing counter-attacks Mendoza was assassinated, leaving the Mendozistas practically leaderless. Various military lieutenants of Mendoza rose to fill this gaping power vacuum.

The country was petitioned between a multitude of caudillos: all claiming allegiance to either the Demócratas or the Mendozistas. Vasquez secured control of La Palma and several other notable southern cities. His position was primarily challenged by Almirante Fabio Cascaras, who effectively governed San Miguel, Pedasi, and Los Asientos. General de División Antonio Morrales Bernardo seized power in Panama and partial control over the Panama Canal. The merchant and teniente, Francisco Sarragoza-Yelstin captured hegemony of Colón and the northern portion of the Canal. General Frederico Matteo del Puerto Sereno y Palacios effectively dominated the northern territories of the country from Rio Sereno. The populist friar, Fray Enrique Marcos, seized Santiago and reigned over the central part of the country. Vasquez, Bernardo, and Marcos comprised Los Populistas, which was cemented by the Alianza Popular. Cascaras, Sarragoza-Yeltsin, and Palacios constituted Los Demócratas Conservadores, and entered into the Liga por la Libertad. The two factions were now prepared to engage in hostilities.

In the early months of La Guerra Civil, the Liga por la Libertad won decisive victories against the Alianza Popular. First, Frederico Matteo del Puerto Sereno y Palacios triumphed over the poorly-equpped and horribly-trained militia force of Enrique Marcos at the Battle of Sona. This effectively gave Palacios control of the entire northern portion of Panama, while forcing Marcos and his militias to retreat and recuperate. Second, Fabio Cascaras routed and destroyed the the popular navy at the Battle of Playa Coronado. He subsequently occupied the city, as well as Taboga, and began to launch harrowing raids against coastal cities. Thirdly, Palacios continued his march towards Santiago and after defeating a numerically superior army outside of the city, rode through it unopposed. Following the Battle of Santiago, Enrique Marcos fled south to Las Tablas, while Bernardo and Palacios occupied his territory. Despite these set-backs, one success did redeem the beleaguered Populistas. After a brief struggle at the Battle of Gamboa, Antonio Morrales Bernardo managed to defeat his rival Francisco Sarragoza-Yelstin and procede upward through the Canal.

Despite early defeats, Los Populistas quickly recovered and launched counter-attacks. At the Battles of Palmas Bellas, Calles Sangrientos, and San Crisóbal, Antonio Morrales Bernardo crushed the meager forces of Francisco Sarragoza-Yelstin and occupied Colón. These victories effectively divided the Liga por la Libertad in two. Bernardo quickly executed his captured enemy for treason and crimes against the people. Another turning point was the destruction of the democratic navy. Nazario Fernando Clemente y Vasquez had attempted to garner foreign support from Venezuela, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S., and had procured a small number of archaic vessels. He met Fabio Cascaras at the Battle of San Miguel, where the popular navy once again suffered a handy defeat. However, Cascaras moved his forces against the city of La Palma, hoping to remedy the defeat of Sarragoza-Yelstin and enforce hegemony over the southern part of the country. The city's guns sank numerous vessels, and eventually forced a retreat. Unfortunately, a hurricane struck while Cascaras's force was at sea and ravaged the democratic navy. Vasquez's weakened navy managed to destroy the scant remnants of the democratic navy and capture San Miguel. He then entered Pedasi and Los Asientos unopposed, and captured Cascara easily. Fabio Cascaras was subsequently executed. Frederico Matteo del Puerto Sereno y Palacios, known as El Caballero by both his allies and enemies, remained as the only opposition to the Alianza Popular.

Image

Palacios launched a campaign to conquer the central portion of Panama on October 1, 22 BF. He triumphed over Marcos first in the Battle of Las Minas, and then in the Battle of Macaracas. In both battles, he faced superior numbers of militiamen and guerrillas. The democratic army continued towards Las Tablas, intent on taking the city. However, Vasquez reinforced Marcos's defenses and the Populistas prepared for a battle outside the city, confident that their numerically superior army could crush their adversaries. On November 13, 22 BF, Palacios met Vasquez and Marcos in the Battle of Las Tablas. The former won a decisive victoy over a force three times the size of his own, in what is considered his crowning accomplishment. Marcos was killed in battle, while Vasquez was forced to withdraw to Capira via warship. Palacios then proceded to occupy the central portion of the country. He was again victorious against the combined forces of Bernardo and Vasquez at the Battle of Valie. However, the long, stenuous months of fighting were by now beginning to dampen the supremacy of his forces, while the Populistas retained popular support and thus recruits. In La Muerte de la Gracia (December 25, 22 BF), a set-piece battle fought outside the city of La Chorrera, a populist force finally extinguished the fire of the Conservative Democrats. Vasquez had taken the primary leadership role in the conflict, in which both sides fielded equal numbers of soldiers, and was given the title "El Vencedor". Palacios, devastated by the fall of the oligarchic republic and the loss of his men, committed suicide. These struggles had demonstrated that the people favored a Populist Dictatorship over an Oligarchical Democracy. However, the question of who would be dictator lingered.

Image
A Stylized Portrayal of La Muerte de la Gracia

Nazario Fernando Clemente y Vasquez obtained authority over the northern part of the country with Santiago as his capital. Antonio Morrales Bernardo procured hegemony over the southern regions with Panama as his capital. The two soon began a bitter dispute over who would govern the entirety of the nation. Likewise, there policies began to diverge. Vasquez created the Partido Fascista de Panama, while Bernardo remained loyal to the Frente Populista. It soon became apparent that a clash was inevitable. On June 2, 21 BF, Bernardo's Ejército Popular suprised a Fascist contingent at the Battle of Aguadulce. Vasquez repulsed the enemy quickly, and launched a counter invasion of the south. Vasquez won decisive victories at the Battle of Calle Obscuro (July 23) and the Battle of Panama (August 15), and entered Panama on August 21. Bernardo was executed for treason, waging an aggressive war, and crimes against the Partido Fascista. Vasquez then declared himself "El Jefe Eterno", and abolished all unions and democratic institutions.

Vasquez heavily favored the military, the Catholic church, and Hispancs. He also modelled his government after Benito Mussolini's Italy, which held an appeal for his ultra-nationalistic, devout Catholic, and Conservative sentiments. Likewise, he began to consider plausible solutions to national dilemmas, principally the economy, which remained ruined following the violent civil war. In order to achieve this end, he confiscated the wealth and property of all foreign citizens and the descendents of non-Hispanics and distributed it among the Panamo middle and lower-classes. Then, Vasquez passed legislation that would force businesses to meet excessively high quotas. Another law rendered international trade illegal, excluding duties for passing through the Canal. Finally, he delegated all "non-Panamos" to the status of non-citizens, denied them access to jobs, public expression, and various other freedoms and liberties. He did, however, permit them to survive through public labor projects which offer them a form of credict that could be exchanged for necessities such as food, housing, and government services. Furthermore, to cement the Catholic religions, all "heretical faiths" were banned. Dissenters were violently supressed by the military, and either executed or exiled. These policies guaranteed universal employment, cultural solidarity, and a slight economic improvement. Another factor in Vasquez's "success" was the enlargement of the army, which offered employment to young men and opened up civilian jobs. Finally, mass building projects were planned, utilizing the labor of Panamos, to repair the damages done during the civil war. By April 15, 7 BF, Vasquez's state resembled something akin to a more peaceful, stable Fascist Italy. However, under-lying tensions would soon rip this falsely serene image apart.

The Golden Revolution
7 BF - 0 FY

Unsuprisingly, Vasquez's policies angered a large portion of the population. On July 7, 7 BF, the military attempted to supress the Jewish population of Lufenia (Panama) by shutting down the largest synagogue in the city. Lufenia had served as the abode of various resistance movements and had developed a unique culture which directly threatened the Conservative, Catholic, Panamo culture which Vasquez sought to bulster. Indeed, the various nationalities, religions, ideologies, and customs of hundreds of thousands of immigrants had indelibly marked the city. When the company of soldiers marched towards the central religious building and demanded its closure, the Jewish authorities and local government refused to comply. The military officers commanded the company to ransack the synagogue, as well as the homes of dissidents and other non-Catholic ideological buildings. The outraged population quickly surrounded the synagogue and began to hurl insults at the soldiers. The commanders ordered a single volley fired into the crowd and then pandemonium errupted. In the ensuing violence, every soldiers was killed.

Revolutionary Dictatorship
0 FY - 16 FY

Image
Chief Executive Ezekiel Bardoff, The Revolutionary Tyrant

Ezekiel Bardoff was born on March 6, 46 BF. He was raised in a devoutly Jewish family as the third of four children. His peers always characterized him as ambitious, cunning, brutal, pragmatic, loyal, and charismatic. The concepts of fairness with which he was indoctrinated stated the necessity of answering with equal force any slight or suppression, and he clung stubbornly to such believes. His father Sampson Bardoff was a radical Jewish nationalist, who witnessed bitterly the suppression of the Jews under the regime of Nazario Fernando Clemente y Vasquez. These sentiments trickled into young Ezekiel's impressionable mind. This would lead him to participate in the Golden Revolution, and ultimately ascend to the heights of power. Another key trait, which would shape the policies of Bardoff, was a fierce hatred of Fascism. This sentiment would eventually lead him to a policy similar to Authoritarian Socialism.

The Golden Revolution had left Panama and Costa Rica divided into various small districts controlled by petty caudillos and idealistic revolutionaries. In order to eschew further conflict, they agreed to elect a leader from among the various jefes who would best appease all policy ideals. The chief candidates for such a position were Ezekiel Bardoff (who controlled large portions of Panama City including the canal), Thomas Adonibaal (who was widely considered the youngest, most charismatic, and most radical of the revolutionaries), and Saul Aranowitz (who garnered massive support in San Jose). Bardoff won the election by garnering the support of both Jews and Europeans throughout Panama, and specifically flattering other caudillos. Adonibaal conceded to the results, but Aranowitz disputed the election and threatened seccession. The people suspected yet another out-pouring of civil strife. However, Aranowitz was assassinated by political rivals in San Jose, ending the crisis.

Image

Following his appointment to the position of chief executive, Ezekiel Bardoff quickly labored to solidify his position and concentrate power. He first reformed and nationalized the army and various localized political institutions and industries, which had formerly been controlled by various petty caudillos and revolutionaries. He prosecuted his fallen opponent's murderers and over-saw the execution of the convicted assassins, thus winning him a reputation as a fair leader. He then granted governorships to firm political allies and important revolutionary leaders, while simultaneously promising lasting reforms. Due to his role in unifying the nation, he is often lauded as the great unifier. Then, he commenced reconstructing the cities that had been shattered by the revolution. Various neighboring countries including Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and El Salvador feared the expansionism of the young revolutionary state and formed the Latin League to oppose further aggression. On January 28, 5 FY, the motivations of the coalition shifted principally from containment to the re-establishment of Costa Rica and Panama under their prior governments. Learning of their intentions from military intelligence, Bardoff ordered the immediate deployment of troops to the northern border of Luciratus and called an emergency meeting of the Grand Assembly. The Assembly agreed to grant him dictoral powers if hostilities commenced, and passed concentrated legislation which suppressed basic liberties and freedoms to guarantee a solid front in the coming conflict.

Bardoff immediately ordered soldiers across the border into Nicaragua to suprise the poorly prepared Latin League. The Luciri military utilized pre-purchased American tanks and their superior experience garnered from their previous revolution to out-maneuver and out-fight the poorly equipped Nicaraguan military. However, El Salvador and Honduras quickly declared war on Luciratus, and sent reinforcements into Nicaragua. Both sides were firmly entrenched a mere fifty miles from the capital of Managua. With the arrival of Guatemalan and Belizian troops into the fray, the Latins charged the Luciri encampments. The subsequent battle was a blood-bath, in which Luciratus emerged victorious. General David Biram then marched on Managua with scant opposition. The army rode through the city where they were hailed as liberators and champions of freedom and Socialism. By December 30, 6 FY, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Honduras had been defeated and occupied. On January 7, 7 FY, the entire Latin League signed an armistice and peace treaty, thus ending the war. Luciratus affectively annexed Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, while Guatemala gained sovereignty over Belize. The capital was moved to Hebron (Managua), which had not been badly damaged in the war. The city is today called Tyres.

Image
The Battle of Hebron

Ezekiel Bardoff's popularity reached an all-time zenith due to this treaty. He successfully convinced the Grand Assembly to declare him Chief Executive for life, and achieved a similar support among the masses. To ensure continued good-will, Bardoff embarked on a number of ambitious architectural feats and mandated Socialist reforms. These included legislation forcing the more equitable distribution of farmland, the establishment of various wellfare programs, and the nationalization of numerous private industries. Likewise, foreign capital (mostly from the USSR) paid for the construction of paved roads, hospitals, educational facilities, and government buildings (such as a executive palace in his capital of Hebron), and aided in financial investments into major industries such as iron mining, weapons manufacturing, textiles, and the exportation of lumber. Such policies increased the production capabilities of Luciratus, but accrued a massive national debt and caused inflation among the poor. The wellfare system could only ameliorate such destitute poverty to a narrow extent, and did not suffice. The wealthy railed against the massive expenditures, financial favortism, bellicose class war-fare, confiscation of property, and populist attitude of the regime.

Simultaneously, Bardoff sought to endure himself to the political sentiments and inclinations of the Jewish masses- who resented the former persecution implemented against them by the rich, the Catholic church, and the now minority Hispanic population- and began to pass laws which would outlaw certain processes and avenge the perceived wrongs of the Vasquez regime. With the general lauding of the middle and lower-class Jews, Muslims, and Protestants, he began to purge the Panamo way of life. Excessive taxes were placed upon the Catholic church, priests and community leaders were arrested, rich Hispanics were forced to forfeit their property, and dissidents were summarily executed. The lower rungs of society viewed the pogroms with apathy, although vocal criticsm soon resounded from the educated quarters of the middle and upper classes. The beginnings of the Renaissance Movement were deeply rooted in such criticism which not only decried the overt tyranny of the regime, but opposed its Socialist ideology as well. Thomas Adonibaal would later emerge as a prominent leader of the movement and a vocal critic of Bardoff.

Image
Thomas Adonibaal, The Eternal Revolutionary

A motivated, politically active intelligensia emerged in overt opposition to Bardoff's policies. They cited the concepts of various philosophies, in particular the enlightenment ideals of life, liberty, and property, to measure the transgressions committed by Ezekiel Bardoff. The movement was deemed the Renaissance Movement due to its origins. They originally met in coffee shops to converse on various subjects, such as: poetry, philosophy, politics, history, mathematics, science, and social issues. Gradually, such conferences drifted towards more politicized discourse, especially concerning the gaping flaws in the political system. Mysterious protests and riots began to occur in major cities throughout the young nation. Such movements culminated in a march on the capital of Hebron (Tyres). The angry citizens demanded democratic reform, a constitution, the prosecution of Bardoff, and a restoration of the status quo. Bardoff misconstrued such criticism as the ramblings of reactionaries attempting to supress the revolution, and ordered a crack-down. Nearly one thousand people, including Adonibaal, were killed in the initial confrontation and approximately seven thousand more were summarily arrested and executed for treason and opposition to the revolution. These victims included all forms of political opposition, social minorities, the wealthy, and church leaders. The remnants of the Rennaissance Movement fled into obscurity, only opposing the regime in a clandestine fashion. Despite this, nearly half the population now opposed the tyrant. The massacre occured on June 19, 11 FY.

Image
The Hebron Massacres

On September 6, 15 FY, Ezekiel Bardoff signed a mutual defense pact with Celestino Barcos, the president of Guatemala. The agreement solidified the northern border and provided economic benefits for both nations. Despite the Bardoff's increasing reliance on the military, he still desired the maitanence of a progressive policy. The latter part of Bardoff's life was marred by an increasingly bitter relationship with Colombia, under the corrupt presidency of Ignacio Jesus Inmaculada Olveras, over the subject of the druglords who dominated portions of Colombia. Irrelative to such matters, the Jewish and European middle-class became a firmly entrenched pillar of society under Bardoff's reign. He regained a higher degree of support based on the people's perception of him as "The Liberator" and "The Protector". By this time, Hebrew and English had both been declared official languages of the state, while Spanish was not considered for such status. On February 2, 16 FY, Ezekiel Bardoff tired of fruitless negotiations with Ignacio Jesus Inmaculada Olveras, and signed an ultimatum demanding reforms and stringent border security. The warning went unheeded, and Bardoff declared war on February 24, 16 FY.

By this time, Bardoff relied heavily on his military officers for advice and assistance in running the country, due to his fragile health. It is quite likely he had contracted numerous ailments and he suffered from a horridly weakened immune system. In early March, he fell ill as his army was mobilizing for war with Colombia. On April 20, 16 FY, Ezekiel Bardoff passed away at the age of sixty-two, most likely due to pneumonia. He had ruled over Luciratus for effectively twenty years, implementing progressive policies and initating a reign of terror. His death marked the end of an age, which would be indelibly marked by one man's actions. That man was Ezekiel Bardoff.

Political Parties

Métinü
Image

Name: Métinü (Moderation)

Nicknames: The Moderate Intellectual Party, Moderate Intellectuals, Moderates, MIP

Description: Métinü is the dominant political organization within Luciratus and has been so since the first presidential election which brought Yashua E. Mithridates into power. Politicians are typically well-educated and usually retain more moderate position on political issues. These individuals also conduct themselves in an old-fashioned, courteous manner. Due to this, they are considered elitist by more populist groups. Another feature of this party, is the universal loathing of demagogues, dictatorships, populists, and extremists. The Moderate Intellectual Party currently retains the office of the president under Alistaire O. Hawthorne, several notable cabinet positions (three offices), representation in the Supreme Court (two seats), two seats in the Senate, and a minor majority in the House of Representatives (seven seats).

History: A sizable majority of the individuals associated with the Moderate Intellectual Party consider it the metaphorical descendant of the political factions of the Early Republican period. In fact, they are usually compared to the mercantile and intellectual politicians who dominated the system during this time, particularly such notables as Ariel Isodore (pacifistic Capitalism with generally low taxes), Fernando Michel Cantante del Dragøs y Jesús Victór de Bolívar (Capitalism with slightly higher progressive taxes and wellfare), and Aaron Phaedrus (universal secular education). However, the direct precursor to the modern Moderate Intellectual Party was the Renaissance Movement which emerged as the chief opposition to the Authoritarian Socialist and discriminatory policies of Ezekiel Bardoff. Following the Hebron Massacres which resulted in the executions of thousands of intellectuals and students and the dispersion of the Movement, individuals affiliated with the organization were forced to flee into hiding and continue their "anti-government activities" surreptitiously. After the death of Bardoff, the Renaissance Movement re-emerged as a influential political, social, and economic movement.

By this time, it had developed a tendency torwards moderated, peaceful Capitalism as espoused by Ariel Isodore (Isodorianism), democratic principles, and Centrism. Important leaders of the movement such as its leader Moishe Zev Ben-Hayim, Raanan Levi, and Yashua Mithridates served in the Tenet under the premiership of David Y. Biram and gained notoriety due to their Centrist inclinations and moderating influence within the government. However, it would be after the death of Biram and during the first Presidential and Legislative elections that the political party itself became an official political entity. With the expiration of Moishe Zev Ben-Hayim (prior to the timely though much-mourned demise of Biram), Yashua Mithridates and Raanan Levi were the principle leaders of the party which espoused an ideology centered on mixed-market Capitalism, the funding of education, the promotion of tolerance, democracy, and Centrism.

While the organization was initially titled Métinü (Moderation), its opponents and detractors quickly labelled them as nothing more than "pretentiously moderate psuedo-intellectuals". Not only did the Moderate Intellectual Party secure the presidential elections, but they also managed to gain a reputable majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. At this point, the philosophy of Neo-Stoicism became highly influential in determining the policies of the Party. It stated in rather general terms that all individuals and entities had inherent responsiblities that acted in a manner similar to contracts and that these should be inviolable. Thus, the government had an obligation to serve the populace and the population was burdened with the responsibility of voting (or not if it was their philosophy), educating themselves (or gaining a job), caring for the general wellfare, and maintaining filial piety. The primarily Métini government drafted a Constitution which granted equality to all individuals regardless of race, gender, or religion. This earned them the support of both Catholic and Muslim minorities within the country and consolidated their hold on power. Likewise, cabinet and judicial appointments were offered to members of various political organizations based on merit, ensuring a more harmonious relationship between the political factions. Finally, Mithridates established a mandatory, formalized, secular educational system for the first time in Luciri history. Originally, Métinü maintained a relatively conservative ideology in comparison to the Progressive Party, although they were less traditionalist when contrasted with the National Liberal Party. However, as time passed, the party shifted conspicously to the left, particularly on issues such as gay rights and abortion.

After the ascension of Alistaire O. Hawthorne (who was a close confident and pupil of Mithridates) as president, gay marriage and abortion during the first and second trimesters were jointly legalized. Similarly, a series of new legislation permitted homosexuals to serve in the military, adopt children, and essentially procure any liberty which other citizens retained. Another innovation was the advent of a more progressive taxation system, although generally rates were lower. Despite this, Hawthorne and the majority of his associates remained strongly opposed to abortion based on their deontological views of ethics and responsibility. Likewise, the party refused to legalize formerly illicit substances "which might be detrimental to the health of the state and certain individuals".

Positions: Supports gay rights, Supports guide-lines for abortion, Pro-Temperance, Supports tempered Environmentalism, Supports business, Regulated Capitalism, Heavily supports education, Moderate on wellfare, Favors more international diplomacy

Leaders: Yashua Emmanuel Mithridates (Stoic), President Alistaire Orpheus Hawthorne (Stoic), James Eliphise Cassander (Epicurean), Horatio Princeton (Epicurean), Benyamin Hastings (Stoic)

Colors: Violet, Silver

Caricature: Owl

Heróü
Image

Name: Heróü (Liberty)

Nicknames: National Liberal Party, National Liberals, Liberals, NLP

Description: Heróü acts as the champion of Conservatism within Luciratus. It consists predominantly of the so called 'Old Guard', a motely collection of hard-line traditional Jews and Catholic favoring the preservation of the status quo, though a large number of Indian constituents support them as well. Many of its members have a military background of sorts and use this fame to propel themselves to the heights of power. Their speeches typically invoke visions of national pride and they fiercely assert that democarcy and particularly Luciri democracy is the way in which most governments should operate. The National Liberal Party currently holds the office of Vice-President, two offices in the cabinet, three seats in the Senate, six seats in the House of Representatives, and two seats in the Supreme Court.

History

Positions: Monetarism, Pro-life, Opposes legalization of drugs, Supports gay rights, Opposes Environmentalism, Supports business, Supports the military and law enforcement, Suports patriotism, Spports Nationalism, Fvors more international diplomacy

Image

Name: Ækadía (Progress)

Nicknames: Progressive Party, Progressives, PP

Description: Ækadía over-sees the movement torwards a more heavily Liberal state. It consists primarily of more unorthodox Catholics and Jews who favor a more compassionate approach torwards government, although a good number of European immigrants flock to their message. The majority of its members were primarily involved in local community organizations and unions, which ensures them strong support in their home districts. They favor a more lenient and level-headed approach torwards issues, preaching caution and understanding.

History:

Position: Pro-choice, Supports gay rights, Supports legalization of some drugs, Supports Environmentalism, Opposes military and law enforcement spending, Moderate on education, Supports unions, Opposes business

Anería
Image

Name: Anería (Anarchy)

Nicknames: Corin Anarchist Front, CAF, Minarchists

Description: The Corin Anarchist Front is a loose coalition of Libertarians, Minarchists, Communists, Syndicalists, and Anarchists who are unified solely by their desire for a severe weakening or disolution of government. This diversity generally weakens the party in general election and hinders them from achieving a large-scale victory, though lately this has been changing due to the charisma of recent leaders. The primary disagreement amongst members is how the economy ought to operate. Once this is resolved the Front may have an oppurritunity to secure power.

Position: Opposes government intervention, Supports legalization of all drugs, Pro-Choice, Supports gay rights, Opposes Environmentalism, Opposes all government spending

Leaders: Sano Atsuke MaCloud, Arjuna Leéaine, Josiah Maor Carter

Colors: Gray

Caricature: Raven

HaAbøním
Image

Names: HaAbøním (Builders/Workers)

Nicknames: The United Islamic-Socialist Front, Labour Party, Socialists, UISF

Description: HaAbøním is a young party, having only recently emerged on the political scene after the dissident elements of the People's Moderate Islamic Coalition merged with the People's Socialist Confederation. Its leaders tend to be young, fiery, inexperienced, and eager to create a more egalitarian system. There appeal is drawn, however, not only from Socialism, but also from Islamic or general spirituality. The party does not stringently oppose religion as many prior collectivist organizations have done in the past. Its constituents consist primarily of college students, Panamo farmers, unorthodox Muslims, members of the Jewish Labour Movement, and the poorer urban laborers, though most consider them demagogues. Under the leadership of well-educated men, they have begun to bring a gratifying message to the people, urging them to adopt democratic socialism. They are loathe for a revolution, but believe they may bring change through elections.

History: Although HaAbøním is a fairly novel political organization in comparison to other parties, it traces its history into the deepest, most obscure reaches of Luciri history. The initial development which precipitated the rise of Luciri Islamic Socialism can be seen in the philosophies of Fernando Michel Cantante del Dragøs y Jesús Victór de Bolívar and Judas Lifaeus, who advocated the maintanence of wellfare supplied by higher taxes, a progressive income tax, and government regulations on businesses to prevent corruption within the mercantile Early Republic. Nonetheless, more radical influences were drawn from individuals such as Armand St. Aníens, who asserted that only enforced collectivization of the means of production in the hands of the proletariet would ameliorate the extremities of the poverty which plagued the Late Republic and create a truely egalitarian system free from corruption and suppression. The Abøním Movement officially began as a challenge to the business-dominated politics of the mercantile Republic, and with vast support they were quickly able to gain concessions such as unions, shorter hours, and fairer wages from the politicians who feared a revolution. The movement reemerged after the assumption of authority by Nazario Fernando Clemente de Vasquéz and his Fascists, who had abolished unions in favor of a National system and lost the inital support of the Socialists. Nonetheless, the suppression by Labor and Socialist Movements under Vasquéz hindered their organization, and it would only be after his fall that Socialism would become a force in politics.

The revolutionary councils who had fought against the Fascists soon displayed Socialist sympathies and radical tendencies. Notable figures of this period included Saul Aranowitz, Thomas Adonibaal, and most especially Ezekiel Bardoff. It would be these revolutionaries who fomented new growth in the movement by founding Socialíste Síonæ, the country's first formal Socialist political organization. The ideals of the new party were influenced first and foremost by Thomas Adonibaal's arguments for the collectivization of major industries under worker's councils and equitable redistribution of land. In the subsequent elections, Socialíste Síonæ garnered massive support from both Jewish and Catholic sympathizers and Ezekiel Bardoff would be declared the executive authority. The most important industries would be nationalized during the early months of the new Socialist Republic. These included the oil, agricultural, textile, and light industrial industries. Generally, these reforms were lauded, but support for Bardoff would gradually erode after he declared himself dictator and waged a series of wars to spread Socialism. After Bardoff's demise and Biram's ascension to power, Socialist power began to wane all together.

Aside from Socialism, a more secularized form of Islam (or a more spiritual form of Socialism) would come to play an important role in the development of the modern party. Abū Dharr al-Ghifārī, a companion of Muhammad who espoused an ideology strikingly similar to Socialism when he opposed the accumulation of wealth into the hands of the elites and argued for equitable redistribution policies, was a chief influence on pre-HaAbøním Muslim populist groups. Likewise, various ideals mentioned in the Qu'ran, such as the importance of charity as one of the five pillars, would influence a large number of Muslims to align themselves with Jewish and Secular collectivists. Thus, after the fall of Bardoff, a large number of Muslims began to join the Labour Movement. Likewise, a minority of Catholics also flocked to the movement's banner, although more were attracted to Ækadía's more moderate message.

Nonetheless, under the presidencies of Mithridates and Hawthorne, Socialism would experience a rejuvenation. Individuals such as Nikolai Khuskanov, Xiao Li Sun, Maximilien Lucien, and Ismael Basri would serve as the vanguard for the latest movement. The speeches given by the congealing party would give it the name by which it was later known, HaAbøním (The Builders). Khuskanov, Lucien, and Basri all prolifically referenced the people or proletariet as the "builders of their own destiny". The party was only officially established when dissident elements of the People's Moderate Islamic Coalition, an local Mÿrais Muslim party, merged with the People's Socialist Confederation, the succesor of Socialíste Síonæ.

Positions: Pro-choice, Opposes business, Supports unions, Supports gay rights, Supports legalization of some drugs, Supports government spending on well-fare and education, Opposes government spending on law-enforcement and military, Opposes Environmentalism, Supports the nationalization of major industries, Democratic Socialism, Social Liberalism
