The Whirl Islands Premier League Season 5

And the fifth Premier League ended with another title for the Sharks, who won their third national title and their second in a row, showing that they are by far, the best team in the Islands. Their arch-rivals, Navel FC, ended in second place and will join the Sharks in both the Champions' Cup and the Copa de Campeones. Although Atlantis, the Red Diamonds and Eastburg had a good start of season but their performance decreased in the following matches, they managed to clinch berths to the next Globe Cup. The United was the most favoured team with UICA coëfficients giving Whirl Islands an additional berth into the Champions' Cup, as their fifth place allowed them to qualify to the Globe Cup. Narissa and Union: so close yet so far from UICA places, as they ended trailing Eastburg by four points, newly promoted Náutico and Sparta did decent performances, while the Halcones will have to "enjoy" a one-season vacation in the Campeonato Nacional thanks to their dismal performance this Premier League season.

The Whirl Islands Campeonato Nacional Season 5

Racing de Terranova managed to crown themselves as champions and return to the Premier League after a hotly contested head-to-head against Port-Vieux FC. Despite both teams ended with 68 points at the top, Racing could get the promotion spot thanks to their two victories and a draw against Port-Vieux. Port-Vieux's consolation prize will be the SBCC, to which also qualified Racing, the Crocodiles and surprise package Olimpia, who ended in fourth place. Athletic Victoria were the disappointment of the season once again and Deportivo Maracaibo ended in last place (once again). Fortunately for them, their first "real" arch-rival is about to come...

The Astograthian Football League: Season 3

For the first time ever, and after a grueling third season, the Grand Duchy of Astograth opens its doors to international competitions and foreign players! Here follow the results of both the first and second divisions, as well as the Royal Cup. Names are translated to English for convenience, the native Astograthian in italics.

First Division (Taldo Lehan)

The battle for the league title was fierce at the top, with the top four teams finishing no more than two points apart from each other. This season it was Ituraitz FC (FK Ituraitz) who lifted the coveted trophy, for the first time ever. With an unusually young team, Gorriak reigned supreme conceding only 11 goals in 18 matches. Second place, only a point away, was attained by the ever-dangerous Sporting Iturributa (Zeladia Iturributa) while bitter rivals Royal Rumiatzi (FK Errege Rumiatzi) and Iturributa United (FK Bildu Iturributa) finished in third and fourth place, respectively, tied on 34 points. This season was not kind to the previous runner-up Urbizania Wanderers (Bidaztiak Urbizania), who came in fifth but a full 8 points behind United.

Further down the table Echegoyan (FK Echegoyan), Blue Mountain Range (FK Mendilorro Ardin) and South Factory (FK Lantaya Ego) remained in much the same positions as last season, while Royal Association (Errege Elkarteazun) and Athletic Club Rumiatzi (Kirrolklub Rumiatzi) did poorly and will be spending the next season in Second Division.

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 FK Ituraitz 18 11 3 4 30 11 +19 36 TQCC
2 Zeladia Iturributa 18 10 5 3 28 15 +13 35 GC
3 FK Errege Rumiatzi 18 10 4 4 27 16 +11 34 GC
4 FK Bildu Iturributa 18 9 7 2 37 20 +17 34 GC

5 FK Bidaztiak Urbizania 18 7 5 6 28 22 +6 26

7 FK Echegoyan 18 5 2 11 21 32 -11 17
8 FK Lantaya Ego 18 2 9 7 21 34 -13 15

10 KK Rumiatzi 18 2 5 11 23 42 -19 11 R

Second Division (Taldo Biharran)

With this being the first season in which promotion and relegation were implemented, the scramble for the top spots in the second tier looked to be intense, but surprisingly, Ituraitz Victory (Garaipen Ituraitz) and Ibarbe Polo Club (Poloklub Ibarbe) faced little competition securing them, with the second-placed Polo Club finishing 6 points clear of the much-improved Iturributa Racing Club (Lasterketaklub Iturributa).

Fueled by their desire to face their cross-town rivals next season, Victory scored 36 goals, which is significant when the second top goalscoring team was Astograth University (Astograthiko Unibartzitatea) with a paltry 26.

Of note were the forgettable campaigns of East Railway (FK Trenbide Eguzki) and Royal Garitzeta (FK Errege Garitzeta), who despite finishing first and fourth last season, came in a poor seventh and eighth this time. They weren't the worst though, as Miners (FE Meatze) and Oak Builders(FK Yaritzigile) will be going down to Second Division B.

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 FK Garaipen Ituraitz 18 11 3 4 36 22 +14 36 P / SBCC
2 Poloklub Ibarbe 18 11 1 6 19 15 +4 34 P / SBCC

3 Lasterketaklub Iturributa 18 7 7 4 19 18 +1 28 SBCC
4 Astograthiko Unibartzitatea 18 8 2 8 26 26 +0 26 SBCC

5 Klub Gukarosta 18 6 7 5 22 26 -4 25
6 FK Aukera 18 6 7 5 20 16 +4 25
7 FK Trenbide Eguzki 18 5 6 7 21 23 -2 21
8 FK Errege Garitzeta 18 6 1 11 24 24 +0 19
9 FE Meatze 18 4 6 8 19 28 -9 18 R
10 FK Yaritzigile 18 3 6 9 18 26 -8 15 R

Royal Cup (Errege Kopa)

This was the first season in which the new Royal Cup format was implemented. In the two seasons prior, the top eight First Division would play for it at the end of the season. Now, it consists of 32 clubs (10 First Division, 10 Second Division, 10 Second Division B, 2 non-league invitees).

Eventual First Division champions Ituratiz FC were held to a draw at home to the non-league Basabe Youth (ZK Basabe Gazteria) in the Round of 32, but avoided the upset in the away leg. Echegoyan FC was not so lucky, losing 2-0 on aggregate to the also non-league Ibarbe Youth (ZK Ibarbe Gazteria). Meanwhile, Iturributa United knocked out Astograth University in a 9-2 aggregate thrashing.

In the Round of 16, United continued its rampage with a 7-0 aggregate win over Miners, while cross-town rivals Sporting Iturributa defeated the reigning champions Royal Rumiatzi in a tense tie that went to extra-time.

Then came the Quarterfinals, where eventual league champions Ituraitz FC were sent home by Urbizania Wanderers following a penalty shoot-out. On the other side of the country, Oak Builders proved to be no match for Iturributa United as they again powered to a 12-1 aggregate victory. Second Division outfit Freedom FC (FK Aukera) did well to become the only non-top-tier semi-finalists by eliminating Blue Mountain Range in a close shoot-out. At the same time, the brick wall of Sporting Iturributa held fast to deny
Ibarbe Polo Club and creep into the next stage.

In the Semi-Finals, United overcame Wanderers with a 5-2 aggregate score, while Sporting had no trouble beating the underdog Freedom.

This set up a dream final: Iturributa United vs. Sporting Iturributa, the great city rivals. The unstoppable offensive power of United crashed into the immovable object that was Sporting's defense on the neutral ground of the 90,000 capacity Olympic Stadium. At full-time the score was 1-1, goals by Estebe Bularte and Kasen Mendieta, with Sporting confident they would come out on top of a penalty shoot-out due to their revelation goalkeeper Zernin Aira. In the 114th minute, however, Ximun Alurralde of United played a long ball down the middle from his own box. Striker Munio Baranzano ran after it like a madman, leaving his marker in the dust, and lobbed it past the keeper from outside the box in a stunning play that won Iturributa United its second Royal Cup.

The Challenge Cup occurred for the first time between the Premiers and Federation Cup champions, with Port Elizabeth beating West Orange 2-1 for their third cup of the year.

Because the NCFA is insane, they have decided to send teams to international competition for the first time. The following are the allocations for the cups, dependent on approval from the UICA:

TakilQuip Champions' Cup: Sussex County (Premiers)
Globe Cup: York City (Premier #2), Astur City (Premier #3), Star Point (Premier #4)
Chronowire Seires B Champions Cup: St. John's Athletic (Kodiak Champ), Port Elizabeth (Premiers Champ, State Premiers #1), Borussia Kalimund (State #2), South Holland (State #3, taking State #1)

For future reference, Premiers champion to Champion's Cup, Premiers 2-4 to the Globe Cup, and the winners of the Premiers Cup and Kodiak Cup, along with the top two from the State Premiership to the Series B. Should the Premiers Cup or Kodiak Cup winner already qualify, their slot will be allocated by the NCFA to either the #5 team from the Premiers (unless the qualified) or the #3 team from the State Premiers. This will alternate years, so the 2001 cycle will see the #5/6 teams from the National Premier gain access if a spot is open.

Best Chunnani Soccer Player Dies at Age 85

Chunnan's best legend Robert Goasla, grandfather of present day player Yoseph Goasla, died of Cancer. He scored many goals in his career but never got Chunnan to win a cup. Here are some images of his days:

Image
Harmony Cup goal 2-1 verses Lekia

Image
SIC Cup 1-0 verses South Chunnan (present day Chunnan)

Image
Harmony Cup 2-1 verses Old Havnsk

He had a happy life and retired at age 42. He only made it to finals but no wins. Thank you for reading today's edition.

OOC: I have changed the names of some teams, but the previous TQCC/Globe/SDCC entrants remain the same, so it doesn't matter.

Allamunnic Soccer League (ASL)

Notes:

First things' first: in the Allamunnic States, association football is referred to as soccer. For all you purists out there who are outraged by this, note that American football is referred to as gridiron, and rugby football is referred to as rugby. Therefore, in Allamunnic parlance, there is no sport actually referred to as 'football'.

Quite unlike the situation in some other countries, in the Allamunnic States, soccer will probably always be, best-case-scenario, second-best in popularity (although third-best is really more accurate, here). Hence, the main problem; the lack of vitality of the Allamunnic Soccer League is a symptom of lack of interest and, some say, a lack of talent. While the latter probably isn't as severe as some claim, the fact is that soccer is not very popular, is not as mainstream, and so does not attract the same number of top-notch athletes that it does in other countries. The ASL has recently been attempting to attract foreign talent and has launched ad campaigns in an attempt to drum up interest in the sport at home.

Scorination to follow (very soon; like tomorrow).

Needlessly complicated format: Top 9 teams of the previously completed Kelssek Football League season are entered. The winners of the first round advance to the final round, and winners in the final round qualify for representation. Losers in the first round contest the repêchage, with the winner of the repêchage playing in the final round against the Kelssek Football League championship holders, who are guaranteed representation. The highest-ranked of the three teams winning in the final round according to previous KFL season rankings will qualify for the TakilQuip Champions Cup; the other three teams are qualified for the Globe Cup (including the league champion if they lost their final round match).

First round
Coquitlam United 0–1 Clayquot City
Kirkenes FC 1–2 Langlois Océanic
Latrobe AFC 2–3 CF Outineau
CS Saint-Rémy 1–0 Penticton

First repêchage
Coquitlam United 0–1 Kirkenes FC
Latrobe AFC 1–1 Penticton (4-5 pens)

Second repêchage
Kirkenes FC 4–1 Penticton

Final round
Clayquot City 1–0 Langlois Océanic
CF Outineau 2–2 CS Saint-Rémy (4-2 aet)
Kirkenes FC 0–0 Burnaby SC (1-0 aet)

TQCC: Kirkenes FC
Globe Cup: Burnaby SC, Clayquot City, CF Outineau

League Preview

International Transfers:

Transfer season was very cold this year, as most of the biggest clubs of Zarbli already have their 3 foreign players maximum quota fulfilled. The only club that will count with a new international player is Cross SC, who hired Kagdazka and Pazhujebu's veteran midfielder Misha Spiridonov.

There were also some changes in internationals that were already playing in the country. The same Cross SC hired Cotdelapoms' right back Julien Laliberté from Pyramid AC; Warriors lost Greater Costwalds' midfielder Kristoff Scholtens for Lichen; But the star of this season's transfer window was, by far, Pyramid AC. We already said that the club lost Julien Laliberté, but they got Toiletdonian Puppa Kino from Polar Zenith, and the club was also the only Zarblese club this year so sell players for international clubs: GK Gran Sultano will defend Kagdazka and Pazhujebu's Zhevassi and CB Logan Vouverine will play for the Cafundelense club Eldorado.

Duke League's 20:

Image
Battle

Nickname: The Red Stripes
Nation: Kampis Batalidis
Colors: Red-White
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: 100 Bali (ammo)
Venue: Kazis Treta Stadium (85,000) (Battle, KB)
Position in DL-IX: Champion
Titles: 4 Duke League Crowns
Squad: Magno; Paton, Jenerau, Barak and Cipriano; Blek, Kalma, Dekaxias (c) and Kan; Karazaua and Tikka
Coach: C. Uidmor
Highlights: The crown holder and club with most DL titles is, once again, one of the favourites for winning the title. It's getting kinda boring, really.
Expectations: Title

Image
Warriors

Nickname: The Blue Stripes
Nation: Goi
Colors: Blue-White
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: 100Bali (ammonition)
Venue Tirazu Stadium (94,000) (Goyoreh, GO)
Position in DL-IX: Runner-up
Titles: 1 Duke League Crown
Squad: Taison; Espadaxim, Varvay, Limin and Kasadora; Loke (c), Dulgi, Dunlap and Li; Tamaxiro and Ford
Coach: O. Augustus
Highlights: Do you see something odd about Warriors' team for this season? I do, and you know what it is? It doesn't look ANYTHING like last season's second place squad. Something very weird happened to the Blue Stripes for DL-X, that's for sure.
Expectations: Midtable

Image
Asia FC

Nickname: The Orientals
Nation: Igualibridis
Colors: Orange-White
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: Tsuriaikoku Denwa Kaisha (telecom)
Venue: The Great Football Temple (60,000) (Orient, IG)
Position in DL-IX: 3rd
Squad: Gregio; Akiles, Grey, Konstantinus and Xixi; Teutoniko, Aratorn, Holmes and Dijin; Iamaxiro and Xubert.
Coach: M. Setung
Highlights: After a great campaign in the last DL, Asia FC bets on keeping most of last year's team in order to do another good job, maybe even better. Competition will be tough, though.
Expectations: International Competitions

Image
Knights

Nickname: The Noblemen
Nation: Pauzis
Colors: Red-White-Black
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: Tam-Tim (airlines)
Venue: Tam-Tim Stadium (70,000) (Pauzis City, PA)
Position in DL-IX: 4th
Squad: Kent; Treta, McGillmick, Bragansa and Kazam; Lictenstain, Amarau, Nelson (c) and Romanov; Iturbide and South.
Coach: E. Deeitse
Highlights: After ending DL-IX in the top 4, Kights wish to, at least, do the same this year. Chamces are, though, that with the retirement and selling of some key players and their subsequent replacement with rookies won't get the Noblemen such great expectation fulfilled.
Expectations: International Competitions

Image
Polar Zenith

Nickname: The Aliens
Nation: Zenitis Polris
Colors: Light Blue-White
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: PK Pharmaceuticals (chemicals)
Venue: PK Dome (94 ,000) (Zenith, ZP)

Titles: 1 Duke League Crown
Squad: Mandemartelo; Muliermaravilia, Labelle, Gaviria and Flex; Romana, Sefalotoraks, Miniokina and Grauberio; Ieroglifo and Idtaile
Coach: L. Piginne
Highlights: The retirement of manager Kazalberto Ziohati is the biggest news in Polar Zenith for the Zarblese League. With the coming of some not so great players, no one can say for sure if such news is good or bad though.
Expectations: Midtable

Image
Billiard

Nickname: The Gamblers
Nation: Biliar
Colors: Red-White-Blue
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: Fehduris Sports Casino (gambling)
Venue: Fehduris Sports Casino (105,000) (Vegas, BI)

Titles: 2 Duke League Crowns; 2 International Cups
Squad: Pitkin; Kopas, Gluksburg and Gota; Gandi, Batman (c), Kasanikeis, Irada and Deiz; Avt and Sliseao
Coach: M. Manezin
Highlights: Billiard has put together a better team for DL-X that they had last year. Slightly better.
Expectations: International Competitions

Image
Romans

Nickname: The Centurions
Nation: Kampis Senturiond
Colors: Red-Black
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: Spartakus (sports events)
Venue: Colizeu Masimis (77,000) (Colosseum City, KS)
Position in DL-IX: 7th
Titles: 1 Duke League Crown
Squad: Hobespiehe; Lirolton, Agripina, Aurelius and Tudor; Henriksen, Druzilia, Dalomax and Milestone (c); Lanternaverde and Masimus
Coach: P. Gomen
Highlights: The Centurions seems to have done a good job in putting back together their defensive side, and if you take a close look you will be able to see that Romans will play with the finest 11 since the legendary squad that won DL-V.
Expectations: International Competitions.

Image
Cannibals

Nickname: The Eaters
Nation: Kanibaldi
Colors: Green-White-Blue
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: Leko (toys)

Expectations: International Competitions

Image
Cross SC

Nickname: The Green X's
Nation: Krusdis
Colors: Green-Yellow
Kit and Logo
Sponsor: Abadia (beer)
Venue: Enkrusliadis Stadium (40,000) (Templar Castle, KR)
Position in DL-IX: 9th
Squad: Ichuvihaja; Laliberté, Mixel, Pia and Kunglao; Trotski, Paxeko (c), Spiridonov and Avis; Burana and Ninpoco
Coach: B. Nevidz
Highlights: Look at this team. Now look again. Do you see that? I mean, Julien Laliberté? Misha Spiridonov? Xapeu Kunglao? Cross SC has made huge improvements in their squad for this season, and I risk saying the hugest a medium club has ever done do far. Maybe Templar Castle's football fans will have a lot to see in DL-X.
Expectations: International Competitions

Image
Pyramid AC

Nickname: The Camels

Coach: H. Segundo
Highlights: Pyramid AC looks very, I don't know, what's the word... bleh.Yes, they look bleh. We're all expecting a very bleh campaign for them this year.
Expectations: Midtable

Coach: G. Omenlivre
Highlights: In the last DL, the Hikers did as well as one could expect for a medium club that had just returned from a year in the ML. It looks like they are about to do exactly the same.
Expectations: Midtable

Image
Lunar

Nickname: The Astronauts
Nation: Luadis

Squad: Semoa; Spoken, Peis and Ataka (c); Estrela, Iuri, Faluza, Xeia and Vietkong; Lekter and Vonhictofen

Coach: A. Deolanda
Highlights: It was a huge deed for Morphologic to stay in the DL for the second season in a row, but we cannot be surprised if they do not succed yet again.
Expectations: Relegation

Image

Squad: Algazul; Kuon, Huk, Ajende and Samabaia; Areia, Verbal, Monokotiledonea and Loukus (c); Scholtens and Telinde
Coach: G. Klorofila
Highlights: Gloria Klorofila has a very nice squad to work with this year, with way better players that she had at her disposal in last year's Marquiss League winning campaign. Lichen might be considered, alongside with Cross SC and Revolutionaries, the best candidate for the League's surprise.
Expectations: Midtable

Image

Saltire Moor FC goes into administration
BREAKING NEWS
Saltire Moor FC has recently gone into administration, owing debts of £55m. Currently they are being held in administration until a buyer can be sought. The Premier League club has not yet issued a statement, but one is expected in 48 hours time, we have been told.
More information will come as we get it, but expect a lot of buyers.

(OOC: Feedback on this story is welcomed, as I'm new around these parts!)

I have multiple puppets here; only a select few are used to represent the continent of Astholm; others used represent Westholme, and do not artificially boost my nation's statistics.Previously i used puppets with nation names that did not identify as Astholm (e.g. Australis Australia; now all new puppets use ASTHLM, NORTHLM, SOUTHLM, WESTHLM (HLM denoting The Holmes.
NOTE: Other uses of Astholm here have a different continuity and refer to work created by the user Astholm, not the nation

To nobody's surprise, Skarrsboro United and Royal Koenigshalloe were the two most winningest teams. Led by Tyrr Dunnmaar, who had another huge year (scoring 49 goals for Skarrsboro), SKU took out pretty much everything in their way, winning all but seven games. But Royal Koenigshalloe, if anything, was even better. With the combination of strikers Shaan Aachensholm and Kristofur Shoelur, Koenigshalloe managed a thirty-win season.

And they are slowly eroded, bit by little bit, on the very beaches where they measure triumph, by countless grains of sand. By the stubborn little decencies of humble little men." -Eric Flint, Belisarius II: In The Heart of Darkness

UFA Cup

Wexwick 2 - 1 Gratizoli

Platinum League

The 66th edition of the Platinum League was one of the best yet, with record-breaking wins, spectacular meltdowns and the birth of a new generation of stars. The title race was wrapped up in February, or so we thought. Ten points clear and with a game in hand over their nearest rivals Athletic Stanza, Wexwick completely and utterly capitulated and went on a run of 6 straight defeats, the club's worst run for 40 years. Manager Jeffery Bowe was sacked and replaced with former Central City manager Raul Gonzalez, who steadied the ship to an extent and secured the final Globe Cup spot and managed to win the UFA cup, the club's second in as many years. The collapse of Wexwick's title challenge meant that the league was Stanza's giving them their 14th title, putting them 1 ahead of Gratizoli as the most successful Unitopolitan club ever. Behind Stanza, Zamba Torpedoes and New Dublin Dragons made up the remaining Globe Cup entrants. The Torpedoes had suffered an exodus of their biggest stars last season as they failed to get international football and finished a miserable 7th. But out of nowhere this season, their young players and academy graduates took it upon themselves to perform and they almost won the league. With the average age of the squad just 22, they look sure to be title challengers for years to come. 3rd last year, a lack of investment and an injury-plagued defence meant Van Sahar could only finish seventh. Of the newly promoted teams, Borderlands Sport did the best, finishing 16th. Zolka 1906 and Bray Bullets were relegated along with MacMurragh Gaels who were realistically relegated by Christmas with just 4 points from 18 games. While Demokratos were unable to repeat the heroic finish of last season, manager Alexis Papadoupalos did well on a small budget to survive in the league.

Golden Boot

Coreninho Athletic Stanza 26 goals
Shola N'Zwanga Zamba Torpedoes 23 goals
Niall Hunt Wexwick 20 goals
Peter Amadeus New Dublin Dragons 18 goals
Dennis Puffin Gleeson City United 17 goals

Hibernium B Division

In the Hibernium B division, last years UFA cup finalists Litmus Avenue FK, Royal Valley Police and Xavier Athletic were all promoted, while Chitwick University had to be content with a spot in the SBCC. While frost and snow disrupted some games of the league, it was still finished by May, with Korlokis, New Dublin Cosmics and Flyth Athletic relegated. The Cosmics had a pretty good reason for their relegation, their two leading scorers were arrested in January with the club 11th and sentenced to 8 month spells in prison for assault, vandalism, disturbing the peace, grand theft auto, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of drugs with intent to sell. Without their two strikers, the Cosmics fell apart and were relegated.

KPFA League First Division 5245 Season Preview

Tertius Shajarhayam – We simply must begin with the hot news out of Dyurtyuli, where the sixteen owners of First Division clubs and representatives of the owners of Second Division clubs met for the quintennial Assembly of Owners conference. There was but one truly important item on the agenda: the situation regarding the Relegation/Promotion Round.

Various press groups, fan organizations, and players unions have complained since the inception of the KPFA League that the Relegation/Promotion Round was nothing more than a glorified lottery, and it has become very hard to disagree in recent years. The promotion of Iguani Yayal, universally agreed upon, except by Iguani fans, to be one of the worst teams to go up to a major top flight league anywhere in the world, has galvanized the controversy into a structured argument to do away with the complicated system altogether.

The R/P Round had become known in recent years as heavily biased towards teams who had (thanks to the draw) been given home games in the latter matchdays of the mini-league, as they could simply play for the draw in away fixtures and then prey on already-eliminated clubs on home turf. This is precisely what Iguani did to earn promotion, and while it is well agreed that Iguani have every right to be in the First Division this year, the promotion of such a lousy team (at the cost of more talented teams like Dynamo, Bijji, and YKY) is alarming.

So the sixteen owners of the First Division clubs and an envoy elected by the owners of the Second Division clubs gathered in the nation’s largest city to put it up for a vote. With a majority, the Relegation/Promotion Round would be replaced by a much less complicated system; the three worst-placed teams in the First Division would go straight down, to be substituted with the three group winners of the Second Division.

As the first ballots began to be filed, Angels, Urnabhi, and Nekromanti, all worried about their own skins in a system where more teams would be guaranteed to go down, voted against the abolition, whereas Vulkan were the only team to be for it. 3-1 in favor of keeping the current system seemed pretty significant.

It didn’t seem to be any different as Begemoti, Krevetka, and Yastrabi (all of whom had been thought to be in the ‘yes’ camp) voted no, and though it was no surprise that the Second Division representative voted yes on behalf of the twenty-seven second-tier clubs, when the overall vote tally was six to two against the abolition, it seemed to be a clincher. Only three more no votes and it would be in the bag.

But then the rest of the votes started coming in. Xenon, Juvapanam, Shadows, and Gimnasia all voted yes to bring the vote total to six yes’s and six no’s. Iguani voted no, but Zhevassi and Therakham voted yes, and one more yes would be the final abolitionist vote.

FKM and Urajbina love to feel like they are the deciders in terms of the league’s overall direction, don’t they? So it was no shocker that they were the last two clubs to cast their votes. Both unsurprisingly voted for the abolition, and it was official. The Relegation/Promotion Round was and is a thing of the past.

More big news! The latest edition of UICA coefficients has just narrowly placed the First Division in the next-highest category of leagues, and this means that Kagdazka and Pazhujebu will send a second team to the TakilQuip Champions’ Cup next year. This will self-evidently double our chances of sending a team to the group stage of club football’s most lucrative and prestigious event for the first time.

Perhaps, then, it is no coincidence that the transfer market has been a busy one. Quite a few moves have occurred between First Division teams, but several major entries into the league from foreign sources can be reported as well. The cash to buy these players has however been raised by the sale of the Federation’s best talent, and there is no better example of this than the sale of Fušia Oujadda to giants Ranca Toco of Cafundéu.

This story would be remarkable enough on its own without the weight of history. The young winger/striker is in the form of her life and has just come off a sensational championship season with Juvapanam and an unlikely World Cup qualification with the national team, and was absolutely vital in both teams’ success. Her young age (and therefore the fact that she can only get better) is just one more bonus. So when the defending Globe Cup champions came knocking, it was a surprise, but not a big one.

What is so remarkable is that once, long, long ago, there was another sensational young attacking Juvapanam player who made big enough waves to earn a move to Ranca Toco: Oujadda’s Urchins (and now former Juvapanam) teammate Šušan'ikara Ghur. In a romantic way, history seems to be repeating itself.

What is different now is that the Ranca Toco of Ghur’s day was a shadow of the club’s modern behemoth status as one of the Primeirona’s best five clubs. The TQCC was at the time of Ghur’s transfer merely a twinkle in the eye of some Capitalizt SLANI organizer, but Oujadda’s Ranca Toco are former winners of the competition. Her involvement in the juggernaut side is by far the highest-profile job a Kagdaz or Pazhujebi player has obtained, ever.

In other transfer news, Zhevassi’s juggernaut financial department has continued to rear its awesome head by continuing the club’s spending spree, now internationally. Zarblese goalkeeper Gran Sultano is on his way, as is former Cafundéu international Nelsinho, a left back. The Zhevassi lineup is now on paper the best in the First Division by quite a distance: Vuhumkara, Vasilisa, Qiva, Albornos, Nelsinho, Akhmetbekov, Sultano, Omelchenko… who’s going to beat them? Then again, no team has ever tried to buy the First Division title before, so who knows if this gigantic power play will actually work? They certainly hope it will down south; this is Qiva’s last season and they want to let him retire on a winning note.

Elsewhere in the league… far be it for us at the Herald to say it (as we’re mostly Angels fans), but Therakham have been quietly making smart purchases as well, having brought in Timriz from Angels and now the attacking midfielder and former Cafundéu first-teamer Da Costa. Renovations of the Therakham Velodrama are reportedly done, with more press boxes and modern amenities available. Further, talk is bullish on the other half of the capital that the relatively young but tactically well-drilled Starblaydi manager Corazo Fortran is going to have his ducks in a row strategically speaking. The black and blue might be a team to watch this year, even though everyone’s talking about Zhevassi and Juvapanam.

Speaking of which, the defending champions have seen a bit of activity in their lineup as well. Ghur is back for yet another year (honestly, we’ve given up on trying to predict when he’s going to quit), and though Oujadda is, as mentioned above, on her way to Cafundéu, the club have done what they are usually not known for doing: they’ve spent some money. Their purchases have been intelligent, bringing in proven players in defensive midfielder Edorta Urrustoy and striker Hakan Mendez. The sky and silver could very well repeat this year, despite being without the superstar teenager Oujadda.

Urajbina are another team on the radar, and would love to shut both Zhevassi and Juvapanam up in the same year by winning the league themselves. They have lost Ogorodov and Chadi, which will be significant losses, but they have acquired Akbarabadi midfielder Zohaib Khan, reportedly at the behest of incoming manager Steven Sanchez, who will be taking the job midseason once the Cup of Harmony ends and his contract with the national team of his home country (Pretty Awesome Persons) expires. Khan’s arrival in the center of the pitch will give Aleksei Vazavorski the long-awaited opportunity to move back over to his native left side.

And then… ugh. I guess we won’t be able to get away with leaving this out, even though we’d so like to. As most of you will know, the Herald is very much a pro-Angels newspaper, which means we can’t stand Therakham since they’re the other major Mahathu team. So everyone can gloat all they want that we’ve lost our best two players in Timriz and Spiridonov, making us an even sadder sight than before. Guess what? As a condition of Timriz moving to our hated black and blue rivals, we’ve got their manager, and he’s no chump. Ugo Stowell, you’re a legend and you’re our only hope over here on the red and blue side of Mahathu! Please, please, please keep us from getting relegated!

Team-by-Team Breakdown

ANGELS
Colors: Red, sky blue, and purple
Cities: Dyurtyuli, Kagdazka and Mahathu, Pazhujebu
Manager: Ugo Stowell (Queer Poco el Mono Ara)
Notable Players: -
Finish Last Year: 13th
Expectations: Relegation danger
Notes: A disaster. What was once the juggernaut of the old Pazhujebi and Kagdaz leagues has sunk to new lows. Without Timriz or Spiridonov, relegation is downright likely. But fans have accepted that rebuilding is what must be done, and they have placed their faith in Stowell. There is still a treasure trove of cash floating around; all we need is a little bit of luck. Hey, our stadium hosted the TQCC final! We can’t be that bad, right?

BEGEMOTI
Colors: Dark green, yellow, and white
City, Country: Rylsk, Kagdazka
Manager: Yegor Gaznayev (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: -
Finish Last Year: 15th
Expectations: Relegation danger
Notes: They had a terrible season last year, and the only reason they’re still kicking around the First Division is because they were one of the two teams to emerge from the last ever Relegation/Promotion Round. They’ve replaced their manager with the knowledgeable and experienced Gaznayev, and their frigid home ground is still a fortress; a nightmare to travel to for opposing teams, but the outlook is still grim.

FKM
Colors: Orange and silver
City, Country: CMZ Metropolitan Area, Kagdazka
Manager: Cheslav Isyanov (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: Ayleeth, Radic, Rostov, Tikhomirov
Finish Last Year: 6th
Expectations: Upper mid-table
Notes: In the 5243 season, they were dominating the league. Now they’ve stooped to the low of buying Nekromanti centre forwards in an effort to save cash, as evidently it’s hard to come by in the CMZ right now. Without Vuhumkara, FKM will clearly be a different team. He was such an important player on the pitch and such a fan favorite off of it. FKM’s glory days are over. They could get a Globe Cup place, but it’s a long shot.

GIMNASIA
Colors: Turquoise and wisteria
City, Country: Gelendzhik, Kagdazka
Manager: Zivan Zagorinski (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: Levantis, Monalté, Nikolic
Finish Last Year: 9th
Expectations: Upper mid-table
Notes: Their debut year in the Gelendzhik Stadion was a big disappointment; they wanted a UICA spot and didn’t get it. It could be they need a few years under their belt in their new digs, it could be they need some new players, or it could be they need a new manager. Owner Maxagonal went with the latter, hiring the transfer guru Zagorinski, who will have a couple years to work his magic before the clock strikes midnight.

IGUANI
Colors: Eggplant and silver green
City, Country: Yayal, Kagdazka
Manager: Cjkbavkc Qd (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: -
Finish Last Year: Second Division, Group C, 1st
Expectations: Relegation danger
Notes: Don’t worry, no one in the Federation knows how to pronounce the manager’s name either (apparently it's something like ‘chibavik kood’). Also, no one in the Federation knows how they got promoted. A staunch defense was their saving grace as other teams in their group folded like origami, but without playmaker Nono Jariku (who's been transferred), Iguani are an absolute lock to go back down. They might not even win a single game.

JUVAPANAM
Colors: Sky blue and silver
City, Country: Juvapanam, Pazhujebu
Manager: Šudhan Chahachim (Pazhujebu)
Notable Players: J. Chahachim, Ghur, Mendez, Urrustoy
Finish Last Year: Champions
Expectations: Title contenders
Notes: As fast as Oujadda meteorically rose to prominence for this defending champion club, she was bought away. But that’s okay. The sky and silver have opened the pocket book and snapped up a couple of skilled foreign players to shore up their spine. Mendez will replace Oujadda’s goals and Urrustoy will fill the enforcer role from deep in midfield. A title repeat is hardly unimaginable and a UICA place is basically guaranteed.

KREVETKA
Colors: Wisteria and white
City, Country: Oktyabrsk, Kagdazka
Manager: Kiriyak Dzhamgerchinov (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: Amandguord, Ilych, Semënov
Finish Last Year: 8th
Expectations: Lower mid-table
Notes: So much for a title challenge. Just when people were ready to start giving Krevetka the renown they seemed to deserve, they went and had an abysmal year. The addition of Semënov was about as useful as a limp carrot and Ilych’s form dropped off the cliff. But Narniel Amandguord is still one of the best strikers on the planet, and as long as the Shrimp can put the ball at her feet they’ve always got a chance.

NEKROMANTI
Colors: Black and red
City, Country: Fatezh, Kagdazka
Manager: Taras Strogolev (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: -
Finish Last Year: 14th
Expectations: Relegation danger
Notes: Well, they’re still up, due in no small part to an excellent start to last year. But then they sunk into oblivion as expected in the summer and autumn months, and the close season has seen a couple of their better players leave in Yakoleva and Rostov. All the signs point to Nekromanti finally going back down this year, but who knows. The red and black always seem to pull something out of nowhere, and they could do just that again.

SHADOWS
Colors: Silver and black
City, Country: Pkethat Šede, Pazhujebu
Manager: Miron Stefanyshyn (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: Corretja, Elminster, Ignatyev, Uharhi
Finish Last Year: 5th
Expectations: Chance at Globe Cup spot
Notes: The only problem (for purists, at least) with green-lighting this club’s chances is that their philosophy is one of austere defense and cynical tactics. But you have to give it to them: they have the players to pull it off. Corretja and Elminster have been in great form for their national teams and Uharhi is hell-bent on reclaiming his place on the Federation’s national team, so Shadows could go places this year.

THERAKHAM
Colors: Blue, black, and white
City, Country: Mahathu, Pazhujebu
Manager: Corazo Fortran (Starblaydia)
Notable Players: Da Costa, Khorkuleva, Razava, Timriz
Finish Last Year: 4th
Expectations: Title contenders
Notes: Does anyone remember the good old days when Therakham dangled above relegation like a prisoner above a cauldron of boiling oil and Angels ruled the league with an iron fist? Sigh. Those days are history, as the black and blue have earned the right to call themselves title contenders with their consistent top-five league finishes and their financial 180. With Timriz and Da Costa, they’re only going to look better.

URAJBINA
Colors: Yellow, blue, and red
City, Country: Urajbina, Pazhujebu
Manager: Steven Sanchez (Pretty Awesome Persons) *
Notable Players: Bhara, Burke, Khan, Vazavorski
Finish Last Year: 3rd
Expectations: Title contenders
Notes: You can imagine how Juvapanam’s championship went down across the bay: not well. First Urajbina had to watch one rival in Zhevassi win two titles and then another in Juvapanam win one? It’s on. Tsilevich, Ogorodov, and Chadi have been tossed on the chopping block (we at the Herald aren’t sure if those were good ideas) and Sanchez is in, set to start a tactical revolution. Khan is the first of what could be many additions.
* = Sanchez will not arrive until after Cup of Harmony 46 ends

URNABHI
Colors: Dark pink and orange
City, Country: Emuzhezh, Pazhujebu
Manager: Brutušam Erassi (Pazhujebu)
Notable Players: Vaskaryev
Finish Last Year: 12th
Expectations: Lower mid-table
Notes: If a small club wants to know how to hold a place in the First Division against all the odds, read up on Urnabhi. First, survive your first year. Second, raise the cash to buy a major player. Third, build your team around that player. Fourth, and most important of all, don’t go firing your manager. They’ve stayed true to Erassi, and he’s proven himself to be one of the most resourceful coaches in the league. His team is safe from the drop.

VULKAN
Colors: Burgundy and wisteria
City, Country: Gelendzhik, Kagdazka
Manager: Pazhuj Yivashaktim (Pazhujebu)
Notable Players: Hu, Shcherbina, Stefanovic
Finish Last Year: 7th
Expectations: Chance at Globe Cup spot
Notes: Well, seventh was technically an improvement over last year… but this is a club that considers itself part of the Big 5, so it’ll have to get better. They’ve fired their manager and put former goalkeeper Yivashaktim in the hotseat, sold the up-and-coming defender Mizirov for some cash, and re-acquired Shcherbina from Zhevassi. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start, and UICA places are a perfectly reasonable expectation.

XENON
Colors: Navy blue
City, Country: Gvardeysk, Kagdazka
Manager: Alexandre Ogrande (Zarbli)
Notable Players: Belyakov, Denisov, Jariku, Lomi, Thašighi
Finish Last Year: 11th
Expectations: Lower mid-table
Notes: Ogrande was supposed to be a great manager, but he’s struggled in two consecutive years. The dark blues have given him another chance, but players like Thašighi and Lomi will need to live up to their potential. The addition of Jariku is an interesting transfer; he’s got good creative instincts and a keen eye for the goal. But will the Gvardeysk area’s lack of interest in football poke a hole in Xenon’s balloon again?

YASTRABI
Colors: Amber and white
City, Country: Dyurtyuli, Kagdazka
Manager: Wladyslaw Bashirskaya (Kagdazka)
Notable Players: -
Finish Last Year: 2nd
Expectations: Lower mid-table
Notes: Seriously, who is in charge of this team? Everything seemed to be going great last season; players like Aznabaev, Narozhylenko, and Akhmetbekov in excellent form. But then the close season rolled around, and Bashirskaya (who’s supposed to be one of the greatest minds in the game) has sold all of the above players and hasn’t replaced them! Nice work, you idiot. Yastrabi have tossed their boundless potential down the toilet.

ZHEVASSI
Colors: Sky blue, orange, and metallic gold
City, Country: Zhevassi, Pazhujebu
Manager: Nemešiabhi Ja (Pazhujebu)
Notable Players: Akhmetbekov, Albornos, Litvinov, Nelsinho, Omelchenko, Petrachkov, Qiva, Sultano, Udachin, Vasilisa, Vuhumkara
Finish Last Year: 10th
Expectations: Title contenders
Notes: Someone recently referred to Zhevassi as the ‘Real Madrid’ of the Federation, but that makes no sense; they must have been from some kind of alternate reality. At any rate, ‘Galacticos’ does seem an apt description for this club. The First Division has never before seen such a conglomeration of talent at one side. Last season’s tenth-place finish is but a distant memory. Nemešiabhi Ja's team surely, surely, surely must be favorites.

It is interesting to note that of the four generally-agreed-upon title contenders (Juvapanam, Therakham, Urajbina, and Zhevassi), all are from Pazhujebu. The era of Kagdaz dominance over the Federation’s football culture seems to be well and truly over, and it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that no Kagdaz team will make it into the UICA competitions (though if you look at the rosters of the four teams mentioned above, all but one of them have some Kagdaz players).

At any rate, we’ll be watching the Urajbina v. Zhevassi fixtures this season with rapt attention. The two clubs don’t like each other most of time anyway, but now that they’re both right next to each other in the title race, tempers will be even hotter than usual. Tune in, folks, tune in. International competition

Alianza Ciruelas started things off by beating the falling stars of Valladares (some things rarely change), while 1860 Flumineiro flamed out against Universidad de Dénprade. I actually don't even know if that was a pun. Ca Condadore got Maxom Academy out of the way before taking down Prince City (blasted monarchists, etc.), while Victory FC did not record one against Ojedo Cerro. Ciruelas were shut down by Avidia United, but San Pablo shut out their Rydell-based counterparts with a convincing 6-0 win and followed it up with a half-as-dramatic victory. Universidad de Dénprade fell to Grêmio Lux by the same embarrassing first leg and a more respectable second leg score, but 2 de abril beat Parakeet FC. And CD Quemavilla beat Isla Pilsen, but that was okay, because in the end they could all enjoy Latin American food together. Yay Pilsen.

CA Condadore lost to more Krytenians, but Ojedo Cerro beat São Perebano and Mapabore Juventud beat the bafflingly-named NT United. Okay, that's not fair, An Blascaod Mór are in this tournament...but still, come on. Unión de Ciudagua came in last in their TQCC group (a crack in the dynasty? Eh? Because let's face it, we're too lazy to tweak the system right now), but the SBCC teams all topped theirs. Not their TQCC groups. On account of them not being in that tournament. Yeah. Ojedo Cerro, despite not quite having 2 de abril's luck against carters, advanced anyway, as did Mapabore Juventud, though Alianza Ciruelas came last in their group.

San Pablo, however, continued contra-cart success, and CD Quemavilla also won; 2 de abril didn't, and both of the others lost in the quarterfinals anyway, San Pablo in more engaging style after a 1-1 draw. Mapabore Juventud met shutout with shutout to advance, but Soldarian FC soldered on past Ojedo Cerro. Mapabore soldered (eh, it's a stretch) past Napoliroma Legion, before losing to Ranca Toco. They'd return back to Ojedo Sango, temporary seats and all, to win the title.

International transactions

The two new members of the first division both looked to Kagdazka for new talent; CD Quemavilla acquired Sergei Aznabaev, and San Pablo went out on a limb to spring for Olga Yakoleva. Their defense was actually quite good last season, so taking the risk of signing a foreigner with a criminal record raised a few eyebrows...but that was the second division, the inevitable new generation of wingbacks will surely be expected by now, and we clearly haven't alienated the Kagdaz authorities too much. Pazhujebi, either.

Meanwhile, two of our players departed for the CCFM: Dión Farfán will join the party at Petardos S/A, while Juan Esteban Oraglio has signed for Atlético Jutense.

Primera División

I would tell you what happened but you wouldn't believe me. Actually you might. Anyway I lost the window, so...puuuuuuuf. Okay. Try again.

The fight for the season came down to the last day, on which THIS ONE TEAM had to win. By a lot. They won. By not incredibly much. Goals from THIS DUDE and SOMEONE YOU'D NEVER HEARD OF. But that was it. OTHER TEAM beat YET ANOTHER TEAM to get third on goal difference, with INEPT GOALKEEPER underwhelming in a five-goal drubbing. PRONOUN at least can look down on whoever's in TAKILANS' net. After matchday fifteen in CITY...they'd better be thankful they were THERE or ELSE. Nine goals? Seriously?

Trust me when I say it could have been a lot different. Well maybe not a lot. But sort of a lot. Stupid league. Let's see if there was any more sanity in store for the second division.

*looks at rank points*

Okay, you know what? Scratch this. Let's go with a ratio I recommended before...kay yeah.

Okay. This is plausible. Predictable, but there were other sims they didn't win!

"Good afternoon, and welcome to this special edition feature on the FPIBC Sport Network! My name is Bob Bjarneson..."

"... And I'm Bob Bjarnesen. Excitement has reached phenomenal levels in Polar Islandstates today, yes, I am of course talking about tomorrow's long awaited launch of the new national football league. Football teams from across the nation have long been playing in small, local leagues and cross-nation friendlies, but for the first time in Polar Islandstates history, these teams will now be able to participate on a national level, with qualification into the exciting world of UICA club championships at their fingertips. I can hardly wait, how about you, Bob?"

"I certainly can't, Bob. Today, we will be taking you on a quick tour of the teams involved in the league, as well as the structure the league will take. But first, some breaking news, Bob?"

"Thank you, Bob. Supporters of Franz Josef Sharks were shocked earlier today as a court ruling forbade them from entering the league structure. The Sharks were all set to be included as a part of the lowest tier until the ruling was passed. The judge in question, Judge Meier, was quoted as saying this:
'The decision was made after reviewing the facilities that Franz Josef Sharks Holdings PLC had been investing in, and after examining evidence of them paying their players exorbitant apperance fees. For a club entering the amateur divisions, the multi-million Sol stadium, seating over 20,000 was labelled as highly suspicious, and the high fees paid to their players labelled as downright ridiculous. The court would also like to make it clear that this had nothing to do with the fact that their absence now means the format of the leagues will run a lot smoother. Nothing at all. Ahem.'
Of course, the Sharks aren't the only team in the country to miss out on entering the league structure altogether, but their position and reputation as one of the oldest and proudest teams in the country, and the fact that they are now the only winners of any pre-FPIFA silverware to not be in the new FPIFA structure will mean this news comes as a shock to many. Bob?"

"Absolutely, Bob. And it would seem that rumours of Mafia connections in the club are just not going to go away quickly. But now onto a description of how the league will work. Bob?"

"Thank you, Bob. The league will consist of two main parts, The Championship League, and the predominantly amateur and semi-pro Challenge League. The Championship League will be made of three divisions of twelve teams each; Første Divisjon Gull, Andre Divisjon Sølv, and Tredje Divisjon Bronse. Each team will play the other eleven in its league both home and away, and at the end of the season the positions will be clear. In the Første Divisjon Gull, the champions will qualify for the UICA TakilQuip Champions Cup, and the second, third and fourth placed teams will qualify for the Globe Cup, with the eleventh and twelfth placed teams being relegated to the Andre Divisjon Sølv. Bob?"

"Thank you, Bob. At the end of the season in the Andre Divisjon Sølv, the champions, second, third and fourth placed teams will qualify for the UICA Chronowire Series B Champions Cup, and the champions and the second placed team they will be promoted to the Første Divisjon Gull. In the Tredje Divisjon Bronse, the champions and the second placed team will gain promotion to the Andre Divisjon Sølv, and the bottom placed team will have to enter the FPIFA Promotion Playoff, more on that shortly. Bob?"

"Thank you, Bob. Below the FPIFA Championship League, we have the FPIFA Challenge League, run in two parallel regional divisions for teams with a mainly amateur or semi-pro player base. The Amatør Divisjonen A and Amatør Divisjonen B are identical in that they both have ten teams, that each play everyone else in their division home and away, leaving a season of eighteen games. The winners of each league will then go forwards to the FPIFA Amatør Cup to determine who is the overall champion of the Challenge League each season. Furthermore, the top two placed teams in both Amatør Divisjonen A and Amatør Divisjonen B go forward to the FPIFA Promotion Playoff, where they will meet the lowest placing team from the Tredje Divisjon Bronse. These five teams will then play a round robin home and away tournament, with the winner of the playoff league earning the right to take part in the Tredje Divisjon Bronse next season. If this winner is the team that came from the Tredje Divisjon Bronse in the first place, then its all as you were. If it was a team from the Challenge League though, then the team from Tredje Divisjon Bronse would be relegated into the Challenge League, and the teams reshuffled to make it more geographically sensible. Phew, Bob?"

"Thanks, Bob. With us so far? Good stuff. The only exception to promotion from the Challenge League is CAF Cape Havensk FC. As you might have guessed from their CAF prefix, their status as the entirely amateur combined armed forces team forbids them from being promoted to a professional league. Should they finish in the top two of their league, their place in the FPIFA Promotion Playoff will pass to the third placed team. However, they are still permitted to take part in the Amatør Cup should they win their league. And that, as they say, is that for the leagues. Only the cup to explain now Bob."

"Yes Bob. At the close of every season, the FPIFA has initiated the Latitude Cup, and all teams in the entire league structure are entitled to enter. All teams from the Challenge League and all teams from the Tredje Divisjon Bronse enter at the first qualifying round, where its two round of straight knockout until only eight teams remain. These eight teams then join the teams from Første Divisjon Gull and Andre Divisjon Sølv, from where its another five rounds of straight knockout of randomly drawn teams until we have a winner. The winner then qualifies for the Cygnus Cup. The FPIFA has worked on the scheduling for this competition carefully, and with only 3 full days between each round, and each round played out in its entirity on the same day, they have truly created a grandstand event. Over to y-"

"And that is that."

"Excuse me, Bob, but I don't believe I'd said your name yet? Bob?"

"Of course not, Bob, many apologies."

"..."

"Oh yeah, sorry. Bob?"

"Thank you, Bob... eventually. So now that you're all up to date with the format, there is precious little else to do, but to introduce you to the teams themselves. A huge thank you must also go out at this point to Sara Poelski, the Minister for Sport and Culture, for ensuring the huge grants of Sols required to build and convert all these teams into fully weather-proof, heated, floodlit, modern football grounds were made possible. Thank you, Sara, from football fans across the nation. So without further ado, over to Bob with the brief rundown on the teams, Bob?"

"Thank you, Bob. Lets start in the obvious place, Første Divisjon Gull...

SK Franz Josef City - Red Star Severny - Jan Mayen Islanders - Resolute Storm 1913 FC - East Franz Athletic - 1. Surtsey Island Gulls - North Star Grímsey - SK Aasiaat Harbour - Yuzhny Equinox FC - RSK Longyearbyen Town - Lokomotiv Barentsberg - Novaya Sibir Reds

SK Franz Josef City
Founded: 1956
Stadium: Landstadt Stadion Capacity: 23,452
Manager: Teemu Johansson
Club Captain: Maarten Berg, DC
Key Player: Timo Skye, ST
Colours: White, with a green and red central stripe
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 13
Many teams come into the FPIFA Championship having enjoyed a dominance in their previous regional leagues, SK Franz Josef City are one such team. The best supported team in the country, the pride of the capital will be expecting to win the inaugural title, but will a dependance on Timo Skye for their goals cost them? An aging and controversial figure, when he's good, he's very very good, and when he's bad, SKFJC lose...

Red Star Severny
Founded: 1934
Stadium: Carravale Capacity: 20,112
Manager: Mathias Paatelainen
Club Captain: Petter Bielsen, MC
Key Player: Adam Nicklas, ST
Colours: Maroon, with orange sleeves and shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 8
Red Star will expect to be amongst the title contenders this year, with the tactical genius of young manager Mathias Paatelainen lauded by many in the press as inspirational. Also expect Adam Nicklas to be at the top end of the goalscorer charts.

Jan Mayen Islanders
Founded: 1988
Stadium: Victoria Stadium Capacity: 16,453
Manager: Nicolaj Koch
Club Captain: Niko Marek, DC
Key Player: Alexsandr van Sorensen, ST
Colours: Violet, with a single off centre white stripe going vertically through the badge
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 2
The most recently founded team in the top league, the Islanders have quickly surpassed their island rivals Rapid Jan Mayen FK in terms of quality, and are desperate to overtake their rivals' title haul of four. With a team heavily based on youth, and reliant on their regional network of scouts, the dynamism, enthusiasm, and athleticism of this squad may yet prove more decisive than their relative lack of experience. Alexsandr van Sorensen and Niko Marek are both extremely talented youngsters, a truly world class future awaits the pair of them.

Resolute Storm 1913 FC
Founded: 1913
Stadium: Mossy Park Capacity: 21,443
Manager: Oleg Seedorf
Club Captain: Anton McAllister, DC
Key Player: Sergey Makarov, DR
Colours: Red, with blue shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 11
The oldest team in the Federation, the Storm are clearly going to fancy their chances at showing the younger teams how a team with real history goes about its business. Recently developed, Mossy Park remains a beloved and revered stadium, and the Storm promise to be a true force of nature at home.

East Franz Athletic
Founded: 1958
Stadium: Rendahl Stadion Capacity: 18,332
Manager: Magnus Fjeld
Club Captain: Henning Blonqvist, ST
Key Player: Vasily Casanov, ML
Colours: Green and white vertical stripes
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 10
Fierce rivals of Franz Josef City, Athletic used to have the edge in direct competition, and are desperate to get it back. With 10 pre-FPIFA titles to their name, East Franz are certainly a team used to success, and their fans are clamouring to start this new era of FPIFA football well. Marauding winger Vasily Casanov will be terrorising defenders all season.

1. Surtsey Island Gulls
Founded: 1965
Stadium: Stadion Solberg Capacity: 20, 348
Manager: Anders Durs
Club Captain: Sergei Frank, ST
Key Player: Ole van Jendrisen, AMC
Colours: Blue, with a white V around the neck
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 4
The Gulls are a team on the up. Lounging casually in the doldrums of regional football for years, it is only in recent seasons where the squad has been as good as their reputation deserves. Anders Durs has truly worked wonders in the transfer market since he was appointed two years ago, and new acquisition Ole van Jendrisen could well shine as the focus of the attack, rather than the bench-warmer he was at Resolute Storm.

North Star Grimsey
Founded: 1922
Stadium: Steffansen Lane Capacity: 15,998
Manager: Cristof Helm
Club Captain: Svennis Moller, DC
Key Player: Patrick Lindegaard, ST
Colours: Black, with white pinstripes.
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 5
There was widespread surprise when North Star were awarded a berth in the top division, their performance over the past twenty years has, as a whole, been pretty abysmal. However, two regional titles in the past four years had the effect of not only improving their qualification coefficient but also suggesting a return to the form they had at the time of their founding, and present captain Svennis Moller could well emulate club hero Jan Steffansen, after whom their stadium is named.

SK Aasiaat Harbour
Founded: 1937
Stadium: Harbour Way Capacity: 12,578
Manager: Lorenzo Justen
Club Captain: Karl Cristoffsen, GK
Key Player: Karl Cristoffsen, GK
Colours: Pale blue
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
Perennial 'also-rans', Aasiaat Harbour have finished runners-up in a record 22 regional competitions prior to the formation of the FPIFA. Their constant form of the 70s and 80s has slipped recently, and staying in the division will prove to be their aim for the season. Karl Cristoffsen will be dictating the team from the back, and trying to further his claim as the national team's goalkeeper of choice.

Yuzhny Equinox FC
Founded: 1935
Stadium: Commerce ParkCapacity: 18,392
Manager: Michael Knudsen
Club Captain: Tommi Kokkur, MR
Key Player: Erik Mallstrom, DC
Colours: Black, with red sleeves
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 3
With a careful eye trained on their fierce domestic rivals Red Star Severny, the Equinox will be doing their best to further their cause this season, though avoiding relegation may be a more realistic target than adding to their trophy haul and reliving the days of their tit-for-tat rivaly with Red Star in the 80s. Erik Mallstrom has been raising eyebrows nationwide with a string of commanding preformances from the back.

RSK Longyearbyen Town
Founded: 1967
Stadium: Sivertsson Road Capacity: 16,837
Manager: Miroslav Pvanic
Club Captain: Vladimir Golubev, MC
Key Player: Marcel Sanderskye, AMC
Colours: Red and white hoops
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 5
A shadow of their former glory, Longyearbyen will nonetheless be looking to cause an upset this season and avoid the relegation that so many tip them for. Veteran captain Vladimir Golubev will provide the muscle to 17 year old assist-machine Marcel Vanderskye's creativity and agility, and not many teams will boss the midfield when the Town are in town.

Lokomotiv Barentsburg
Founded: 1981
Stadium: Lokomotiv Park Capacity: 10,689
Manager: Srdjan Hansen
Club Captain: Tim Skovgaard, GK
Key Player: Denis Kodiak, DC
Colours: White, with a single diagonal green stripe
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 2
Another one of the more surprising teams to make the coefficient cut into the top league, Lokomotiv have the last of their regional league titles to thank for that, just coming within the 5 year cut-off as it did. Whether or not they'll manage to fill their stadium week in, week out remains to be seen, but they have an undeinable star of the future in centre-back Denis Kodiak.

Novaya Sibir Reds
Founded: 1921
Stadium: Uverdale Velde Capacity: 17,732
Manager: Lars Stage
Club Captain: Aaron Hogg, DC
Key Player: Aaron Hogg, DC
Colours: All red
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 2
Aaron Hogg could single-handedly keep this team in the division, and certainly if anyone is going to, its going to be him. The Reds have never won a league before, their only pre-FPIFA titles coming through cup competitions, and their only hope for silverware this season will undoubtably be through the same route.

"And now a look at the teams making up the inaugural season in the Andre Divisjon Sølv...

AC Aleutia Volcanoes - FC Axel Heiburg - Severnaya Zemlya 88 Equinox - Northbrook Diamonds FK - Melville Celtic - FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla - FC Solovetsky Monastery - Klub Atletisk Spitsbergen - AFK Hans Island Pioneers - Devon Bay Seals FC - Bennett and Zhokhov - Resolute Hills FC

AC Aleutia Volcanoes
Founded: 1972
Stadium: McAllister Way Capacity: 11,858
Manager: Sara Kalashnikov
Club Captain: Bent Gulvson, GK
Key Player: Marco Mikkinen, DC
Colours: Red and yellow vertical stripes
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 2
Whatever happens this season, expect the Volcanoes to be amongst the qualifiers for the Chronowire Series B Champions Cup. Hard nosed manager Sara Kalashnikov will be driving them to gain promotion however, and expect Marco Mikkinen to dictate actions in their own half.

FC Axel Heiburg
Founded: 1978
Stadium: Axel Torvig Park Capacity: 15,849
Manager: Morten Rasmussen
Club Captain: Luc Demarchelier, AMC
Key Player: Patrick Ackermann-Finn, ST
Colours: Green, with white side panels and sleeves with a black borderline
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 3
FC Axel Heiburg have a reputation for hard-nosed defensive play. Physical in the tackle and unambitious in their play. However, new manager Morten Rasmussen has overseen a revolution at the club. With the transition of club captain Luc Demarchelier from midfield enforcer to somewhat of a creative inspiration, and the development of exciting youth striker Patrick Ackermann-Finn, if the new style can blend well with the old, then the sky is the limit for this team. If it blends badly, who knows.

Severnaya Zemlya 88 Equinox
Founded: 1988
Stadium: Kristov Stadium Capacity: 12,489
Manager: Stian Levken
Club Captain: Eduardo Prost, DC
Key Player: Hassa Thompson, ST
Colours: Half black, half white
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 1
88 Equinox are not a team used to flying so high, however, in Eduardo Prost they have a truly inspirational leader, who would lead them to hell and back if he could, let alone was recquired to. Star striker Hassa Thompson is the club's all team leading scorer, and has a box of tricks the envy of any striker in the land.

Northbrook Diamonds FK
Founded: 1954
Stadium: Palace Approach Capacity: 12,922
Manager: Tomas Svensson
Club Captain: Jan Nielsen, DC
Key Player: Diedrich Djurgarden, GK
Colours: White and red diamonds, with white shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
Tomas Svensson is a manager under pressure. Somewhat without precedent, the board have dictated that the Diamonds should be challenging for the top international places in the top division. Instead, the Series B may be all they can acheive. Whether or not this will save his job for now remains to be seen.

Melville Celtic
Founded: 1994
Stadium: Melville House Capacity: 9,422
Manager: Morten Karl
Club Captain: Jonatahn Beck, DMC
Key Player: Jonathan Beck, DMC
Colours: All white
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
Though most pundits predict a safe mid-season finish for this young squad, team captain Jonathan Beck continues to cause a stir by suggesting a title challenge may not be out of their reach. Their future though is in the hands of Morten Karl, whose unpredictable tactics may yet be their undoing.

FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla
Founded: 1997
Stadium: The Barge Capacity: 6,927
Manager: Thomas Celik
Club Captain: Yannis Pettersen, ST
Key Player: Yannis Pettersen, ST
Colours: Green, with white shorts and blue socks
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
It remains a constant surprise that an island as small as Bjarnarey has inspired a team as good as the Flotilla. Given that the majority of the island's population actually resides themselves on a network of floating inhabitations that surround the island, it should come as no surprise that ground-breaking floating stadium The Barge is a part of the same network, and one in which they prove so difficult to beat. Yannis Pettersen will be looking to drive this small club up the leagues over time.

FC Solovetsky Monastery
Founded: 1926
Stadium: The Priory Capacity: 9,846
Manager: Christain Offenburg
Club Captain: Patrik Karlstrom, DC
Key Player: Igor Melkinov, MR
Colours: Grey, with black shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
Another tiny club in the second division, founded from an amateur team of monks in the 1920s, they turned professional 40 years later to the day, and haven't looked back since. Despite a lack of titles, year after year they upset the larger teams above them, and are yet to finish a league in a lower position than they did the year before. Having climbed to third in their regional league, they will look to start that legend afresh from wherever they end up this season.

Klub Atletisk Spitsbergen
Founded: 1965
Stadium: Cannister Park Capacity: 13,094
Manager: Petr Mikkel Dahl
Club Captain: Mustapha Kristensen, GK
Key Player: Andriy Albanov, DC
Colours: All blue
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 1
With a fierce reputation for playing aggressive, physical, one-touch long-ball football, no team enjoys playing Klub Athletisk. Andriy Albanov doesn't let much past him, and nor does club captain Mustapha Kristensen.

AFK Hans Island Pioneers
Founded: 1964
Stadium: Petr Karl Stadion Capacity: 8,446
Manager: Karl Bint
Club Captain: Finn Marini, DL
Key Player: Nicolai Kastrati, ST
Colours: All red
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 2
The Pioneers will be looking to turn Petr Karl stadion into a fortress this season. Named for their hero, Petr Karl, the stadium echoes with the fast paced attacking football that their idol brought them. Whether or not they have the players to replicate those glory days remains to be seen, but it could be the point that makes or breaks their season.

Devon Bay Seals FC
Founded: 1943
Stadium: Becksfield Capacity: 9,221
Manager: Lars Poker
Club Captain: Ronald van Bommel, DMC
Key Player: Ronald van Bommel, DMC
Colours: White, with green pinstripes
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 3
The Seals will be using this first season to try and avoid relegation. Only a shock win on the last day of the last regional season brought them the third of their three non-FPIFA titles, and raised their co-efficient high enough to grace the second division. Having expecting to be competitive in the third division up until that moment, we'll have to see how they adjust to being a relegation contender.

Bennett and Zhokhov
Founded: 1944
Stadium: B Park/Z Park Capacity: 4,332/4,332
Manager: Pietr Heimlich
Club Captain: Jor Henrik, ML
Key Player: Christian Sparv, MR
Colours: Orange and white vertical stripes
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
Bennett and Zhokhov have a fascinating history. Formed out of an alliance of two village teams, Bennett being the slightly older, never has a title graced their trophy cabinet, before or after the alliance was formed. Only drawing players from those two villages means their player pool is restricted, but a fanatical, all consuming support form both villagers as well as a heavy investment in youth facilities means they continue to be competitive in the professional leagues. Uniquely, they share their home games by ballot between two identical stadiums, one in each village.

Resolute Hills FC
Founded: 1915
Stadium: Home Lane Capacity: 6,291
Manager: Niklas Adsen
Club Captain: Ivan Bentdner, DR
Key Player: Nikolai Valentin, ST
Colours: Blue and white hoops
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 12
With so much fire in their belly fuelled by their hatred of the Storm, the Hills are desperate to return to their glory days of old. However, a quick relegation to the third division seems likely in this inaugural season. Twin strikers Nikolai and Vasily Valentin are likely to grab the vast majority of their goals in their bid for survival, with marauding right back club captain Ivan Bentdner likely to provide a lot of the assists.

"And last of the professional leagues, Tredje Divisjon Bronse...

SK Stryær - Rapid Jan Mayen FK - McAvery Centurions - 1. RC de Velcosta Cliffs - Northbrook Zenith FC - SK Nasjonale Hauker - North Banks FC - FC Svenskøya - Waldenøya Bears - SK Sturm Rässinger 76 - Grass-Lisch AFC - 1. Lokomotiv Karlstadt

SK Stryær
Founded: 1945
Stadium: Park of Night Capacity: 8,748
Manager: Ana Knudsen
Club Captain: Anders Nielsen, DC
Key Player: Bjorn Grahn, DC
Colours: Orange, with blue shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 2
Considered unlucky by many to be in the third division at all, Stryær will surely be amongst the contenders for promotion at the end of the season. Ana Knudsen's revolutionary attack tactics will be the key to building upon their solid defence.

Rapid Jan Mayen FK
Founded: 1975
Stadium: Yannis Stadion Capacity: 7,356
Manager: Lars Schultz
Club Captain: Kolke Yenningburg, MC
Key Player: Erik Jonssen, ST
Colours: Black, with one orange side and one green side
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 4
Living in the shadow of their more illustrious neighbours must be difficult, but their reputation for counter-attacking football may well prove to be their key to this season. The selfless devotion of striker Erik Jonssen in continuing to play for his childhood team at a pittance of the wage he could undoubtably earn in the top division is admirable.

McAvery Centurions
Founded: 1956
Stadium: Parker St Nichols Capacity: 4,289
Manager: Hans Andersen
Club Captain: Jonny Mackenzie, MC
Key Player: Juan Torres, DC
Colours: Red, with white sleeves
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
With a team as determined and devoted as he has, Hans Andersen may yet manouevre his squad into a position where they might push for promotion. The opinion from most pundits seems to be that a mid-table season of mudanity awaits however.

1. RC de Velcosta Cliffs
Founded: 1992
Stadium: Cliffedge Capacity: 9,376
Manager: Hennin Martin
Club Captain: Felipe Troest, ST
Key Player: Nicolai Kolbach, GK
Colours: All black
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 1
When they called this stadium Cliffedge, they weren't exaggerating. A towering stadium on the edge of a vertigo inducing drop, any team expecting to come to Velcosta and come away with points will need to possess nerves of steel. The home fans are loud, raucous, and hold little respect for opposing teams. Could yet spring a surprise promotion push.

Northbrook Zenith FC
Founded: 1967
Stadium: Zenith Park Capacity: 7,483
Manager: Jars Stolt
Club Captain: Sammi Trulsen, DC
Key Player: Roger Hysen, ST
Colours: White, with ice blue sleeves and shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 1
Sammi Trulsen runs a tight defensive unit, and Roger Hysen can be relied upon to hit the back of the net consistently, but a promotion push may just be out of their reach this season.

SK Nasjonale Hauker
Founded: 1972
Stadium: Nasjonale Stadion Capacity: 30,523
Manager: Jesper Aaloya
Club Captain: Finn Jacobsen, ST
Key Player: Finn Jacobsen, ST
Colours: Yellow, with black shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
Captain and focus of the attack, Finn Jacobsen will have to prove to fans that his heart still lies with the Hawks after almost moving to Melville Celtic in the pre-season. In doing so, he will have to lift a team that may yet find playing in the national stadium more of a hindrance than a help.

North Banks FC
Founded: 1982
Stadium: The Cauldron Capacity: 5,278
Manager: Sandr Toksvig
Club Captain: Marcus Karlsson, DC
Key Player: Ryan Semper, ST
Colours: Red and blue stripes
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 2
North Banks previously relied upon the intimidating acoustics of The Cauldron to boost their league performances, and perhaps their fans were more against the government-enforced FPIFA stadium modernisation and expansion programme than any other supporters groups. However, a safe mid table position should be be able to be banked upon regardless.

FC Svenskøya
Founded: 1919
Stadium: Svenskøya Stadium Capacity: 4,992
Manager: Marten Kragh
Club Captain: Nicklas Tilly, GK
Key Player: Steffan Olsen, MR
Colours: White and blue quarters
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 9
One of the oldest teams in the Federation, previous glories are long forgotten except for in the hardiest of memories. A firm base can be built upon here though, and whatever happens this season, there is plenty of scope for future investments.

Waldenøya Bears
Founded: 1924
Stadium: Bear Ground Capacity: 4,627
Manager: Henrik Poluvsin
Club Captain: Tor Pettersen, GK
Key Player: Tom Erik Lukjanov, AMC
Colours: Black and white stripes
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 4
Club captains Tor Pettersen has twice as many pre-FPIFA titles as the club he now plays for, the veteran goalkeeper will prove to be vital if this team are to avoid being forced into the promotion playoffs this season. Tom Erik Lukjanov has much to learn from his peers, but there aren't many skills he doesn't already possess.

SK Sturm Rässinger 76
Founded: 1976
Stadium: Sturm Circle Capacity: 3,278
Manager: Alex Akinfeev
Club Captain: Aapo Tomminen, DL
Key Player: Johan Pacha, ML
Colours: White, with blue shorts
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
A team situated on the outskirts of the capital, this club will struggle to avoid the playoff this season. Where they to avoid it on their own merits, the left side of their attack will undoubtably be key to their plans, otherwise, the failings of other teams will have to be relied on.

Grass-Lisch AFC
Founded: 1947
Stadium: Stadion Dobsky Capacity: 5,498
Manager: Dmitry Mikkelsen
Club Captain:Hakon Bakka, DMC
Key Player: Ricardo Grei, MR
Colours: Blue, with a white central stripe
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 0
One of the oldest teams in the league system to have never won a single trophy, Grass-Lisch face a tough challenge following their recent conversion to professionalism in time for the FPIFA era to begin. They tend to have little problem in scoring the goals, but can they keep them out? Recent acquisition Hakon Bakka will likely move straight into the midfield and look to bring his wealth of experience into play, hoping to shore up their defensive front.

1. Lokomotiv Karlstadt
Founded: 1975
Stadium: Karlstadt House Capacity: 8,376
Manager: Matt Falk
Club Captain: Olav Halvorsen, AMC
Key Player: Olav Halvorsen, AMC
Colours: White, with violet socks
Pre-FPIFA Titles: 1
Given that the nation's largest sportswear manufacturer has its HQ in Karlstadt, it seem only appropriate that the team from Karlstadt should find themselves filling their stadium week after week, despite their only recent move to professionalism. Most pundits' tip to enter the promotion play off this season, Olav Halvorsen will have his work cut out trying to coax the strikers he supplies into scoring.

"Which, well Bob, it looks like I've run out of teams to introduce."

"Thanks Bob, you could of course go on to talk about the vast wealth of teams below the tiers of the new FPIFA system, but to do I fear would take hours. Such teams will be considered for inclusion to the Challenge League on a case by case basis, rather than by merit of their financial or perfomance situations alone. So, Bob, your predictions for the season ahead?"

"Well, Bob, whatever happens, I'm sure it's going to be a grat ride. But for me, the FørsteDivisjon Gull title belongs to Franz Josef City, with Novaya Sibir Reds and Longyearbyen Town facing the hartbreak of relegation. As for Andre Divisjon Sølv, I just can't call a winner, though I think two of Aleutia, Axel Heiburg, and Northbrook will go up, with Resolute Hills and Devon Bay Seals sinking. In Tredje Divisjon Bronse, I think Velcosta Cliffs could spring an upset and take the title, with Rapid Jan Mayen taking the second promotion spot, going to go out on a limb and suppose that Grass-Lisch could face the Promotion Playoff.

In that playoff, I'm going to take an only slightly educated guess at Surtsey Rovers and RSK Moorlands taking the places from Divisjonen A, but only after CAF Cape Havensk have to give up their spot, and Torpedo Sibir and Dinamo Clavering taking the spots from Divisjonen B. As for who wins it? I wouldn't like to guess so early in the season. Bob?"

"All fair guesses Bob, we'll have to see how your predictions turn out. For now though, we've run out of time. Join us in eleven weeks time for a halfway summary of the season so far. Exciting times are ahead. Bob?"

"One of us has been Bob Bjarnesen, and the other has been Bob Bjornesen, goodness knows which. So its goonight from Bob..."

"... And its goodnight from Bob. Goodnight."

Much awaited, the AY 16 season will be the final usage of this format before I transfer to something new, to be revealed at the end of the next state championships. For now, though, enjoy!
