Thanks for showing interest in this Import/Export Dex, I appreacite all the attention it's gathered.

EDIT:
I've made some changes to the color codes and the way you set up your submission. These changes should make filling out your list a lot more simple and faster.

Here is how you go about submitting your entry for the database:

First, copy the template list provided in the code box below. Just hit select-all, copy to a submit post window, and edit.
When you edit your template, first check the color table and what each entry means. Copy the appropriate pre-colored tag to the end of the line after each trade item.
While you may edit out (or even add your own) the notes in parenthesis after the name of an item, please keep the item names intact and add the colored status tags for each item.
This template is meant to be a starting point, not as a universal solution. If there is a specific or special item you want in your listing, please feel free to add it to the Other cateogry at the bottom.

Code: Select all
<Full IC Nation Name>

Color-codes indicate the levels of Imports/Demand for a product.  This demand should reflect the desire or need for imports of said item
None - There is no demand for this item, importing this item will be nearly impossible.
Very Low - There is very little demand for import of this item.  While deals can be made, the seller is at a severe disadvantage.
Low - There is a marginally increased demand for this item, however most imports will be either one-time deals, or very low volume deals.
Moderate - There is a fairly steady demand for this item.  Merchants can be fairly confident in trying to import this item.
High - This item is in nearly constant, heavy demand.  Any merchant attempting to import this item can make good profit.

These two tags are optional.
Illegal/Banned - This indicates this product or service is banned from imports/exports, and may be illegal in this nation.  Illegal or banned items may still have a local demand, but smugglers may face penalties if caught.
Permit Required - This indicates trade of this product is regulated, and requires a permit from the local government.  Trade without a permit is deemed illegal, and smugglers may face penalties if caught.

Terran Empire of North Mack
Color-codes indicate the levels of local demand for a product.
Grey indicates this nation has no interest in import or export of this item.
Blue indicates very low levels of domestic demand. This may indicate domestic over-production, and may also indicate heavy exportation.
Green suggests that domestic demand is satisfied, though exportation may still take place.
Orange indicates moderate to high levels of domestic demand. This may indicate that domestic supplies or production is unable to keep up with demands, creating a need for imports. This may also simply indicate a continual demand for a product, regardless of domestic supplies.
Red indicates an urgent need for imports, therefore, a potentially lucrative import market.
Underlined indicates a product or service is banned from imports/exports, and may be illegal in this nation. Illegal or banned items may still have a local demand, but smugglers may face penalties if caught.

The Triune Of Eternal Night

Key: Item – Import Rating (Demand) – Illegal (Optional) – Permits (Optional) – Notes

The Fourth Dersconi Amaranthine Imperium
Color-codes indicate the levels of local demand for a product.
Ignored - This indicates this nation has no interest in import or export of this item.
Surplus - This indicates very high levels of local supply, creating very little local demand. This item is regularly exported.
Stable - This indicates that local supplies are just sufficient for local demand. Imports or exports are minimal, and based on situation.
Consumption - This indicates this item is highly desired. Imports of this item are common, regardless of local supplies.
Deficit - This indicates that local supply is vastly insufficient to meet local demands, creating an urgent need for imports.
Underlined indicates a product or service is banned from imports/exports, and may be illegal in this nation. Illegal or banned items may still have a local demand, but smugglers may face penalties if caught.

A note to keep in mind: due to the technological development of the Imperium (as well as LOL MAGIC AND GODS), there is little to no material need in the Imperium (although, like all beings, wants are infinite), and any material we possess can be produced to overabundance thanks to matter replication and autoformation.

NOTE: Those things in red, it is not that the Imperium lacks them, but simply that demand will never be satisfied. Some would call the Imperium a "post-scarcity" economy (although the use of that term is debatable). Basically, the Imperium and its people desire above all else services, arts, information, crafts, etc, and are perfectly willing to trade essentially anything else for them (aside from select items deemed important and spiritual). Other colors indicate that local demand is doing just fine, but we like to play with foreign things.

NationStates remains an excellent educational tool for children. It can teach you exactly just how far people will go to gain extrajudicially what they could never gain legitimately. ~ Questers
And congratulations to Derscon, who has finally codified the exact basis on which NS issues work. ~ Ardchoille

United Colonies of Kobol--Earth SSR

Okay, finally got the format finalized, and the instruction post has been updated. I am not going to ask for or require existing entries be edited, that is up to you. I will however ask that all new entries use the new formatting. It should be easier to fill out than the old system.

The Great Therapodian Empire of Sskiss

Color-codes indicate the levels of local demand for a product.
Ignored - This indicates this nation has no interest in import or export of this item.
Surplus - This indicates very high levels of local supply, creating very little local demand. This item is regularly exported.
Stable - This indicates that local supplies are just sufficient for local demand. Imports or exports are minimal, and based on situation.
Consumption - This indicates this item is highly desired. Imports of this item are common, regardless of local supplies.
Deficit - This indicates that local supply is vastly insufficient to meet local demands, creating an urgent need for imports.

Services
Research & Development - Stable
Starship Design - Stable
Starship Construction - Stable
Mercenary Contracting - Deficit special - * (See below)
Augmentation Installation - Ignored - No tech base.
Financial Services (Banking, Loans, etc) - Consumption - But only in dealing with other species, otherwise "Ignored".

Academic Education (Students Go There) - (Special) Rare, but possible, if precautions are taken.
Tourism - (Special) - Possible if certain critical precautions are taken.

* - The Sskiss (through several linked intermediaries) will often hire mercenaries of all sorts. There is a strong demand for private ships and fleets for general patrol duty, anti-pirate and smuggling operations, ground troops for garrison duties and so forth. Such forces will deployed at the outer colonies where defenses are sparse. Mercenary forces must supply all logistics and support for themselves. Despite this, most mercenariies agree that they are payed very well with a minimum of difficulties. In addition, spies, moles and occasionally assassins are used as needed for the gathering of information, and selected elimination of troublesome individuals. It should be noted that through the use of several linked intermediaries (and liberal use of red herrings and similar "dead ends"), it will be difficult for foreign powers to trace such activities back to the Sskiss. In fact, those hired never discover who really needed their services, or who was ultimately their true employer.

Labor - All ignored - Usually (*See Below)
Paid Workers -
Indentured Workers -
Slaves (Sapient) -
Machines (Droids & Robots) -
Machines (AI) -
Clones & Bioroids -

*- Generally not practical. This is largely due to heightened territorial instincts and drives possessed by the Sskiss. In short, the Sskiss simply cannot work with other species in close proximity for any real length of time. Exceptions may occur in remote areas or isolated camps. Furthermore, labor pools are vast and can be called upon whenever needed.

Military Goods All Ignored and Illegal - (**See Below)
Melee Weapons -
Light Arms (Handguns, Rifles, etc) -
Heavy Arms (Machineguns, RPGs, etc) -
Artillery (Heavy Cannons, Mortars, etc) -
Body Armor (Basic Body Armor & Non-Powered Suits) -
Powered Armor (Smaller Than Mecha) -
Mecha (Large Vehicles) -
Armored Vehicles (Tanks, APCs, etc) -
Munitions (Ammo, Fuel, Explosives, etc) -

** - No Sskiss military technology is ever traded or otherwise exchanged. Smugglers will meet a swift gory end. Melee weaponry and mecha never existed. Sskiss body armour is non-powered, but otherwise possess several advantages.

Vehicles (Manufactured & Assembled) - All Ignored and in some cases Illegal - (***See Below)
Ground Craft: Consumer (Cars, Bikes, etc) -
Ground Craft: Industrial (Tractors, Cargo Trucks, etc) -
Ground Craft: Specialized (Trains, Emergency Vehicles, etc) -
Water Craft: Consumer & Pleasure -
Water Craft: Cargo Transport -
Water Craft: Military -
Air Craft: Personal (Small Planes & Similar) -
Air Craft: Passenger (Airliners) -
Air Craft: Cargo Transport -
Starships: Smallcraft (Fighters, Shuttles, etc) -
Starships: Light Transports (Passenger, Small Cargo, etc) -
Starships: Heavy Transports (Bulk Freighters & Similar) -
Starships: Light Warships (Corvettes, Frigates, etc) -
Starships: Medium Warships (Destroyers, Cruisers, etc) -
Starships: Heavy Warships (Battleships, Carriers, etc) -

*** - The above either does not appeal to the Sskiss, lack the concept in the first place, or trade is forbidden to foreign powers. The last is especially true of starships of any sort.

Other
Survey/Exploration - Stable+
Animal Byproducts - (Bone meal, hides, furs etc...) Surplus - Wide variety for export.
Timber (various species and grades) - Surplus - Wide variety of quality woods for export.
Silicates (stone, marble etc...) - Stable+ - Wide variety of shapes, colors and types available.

Color-codes indicate the levels of Imports or Exports for a product. Each product will have two color codes, one for Exports and one for Imports.

A minor note - Attempting to secure importation/exportation deals with Viridian Dawn will require the cooperation of the corporation(s) who deal in that sector.

I have a few concerns now that I've been looking things over in greater detail. The first is what may be a redundancy or two. For example, what are the differences between the terms "Mineral" and "Metallic"? The second example is the differences between the terms "Element" and "Compound".

Also, it seems everyone, has come up with there own format. Their are at least four different types of format between all the entries so far.

When I came up with the entry for Mineral, I was trying to find a term which embodied those elements which were not gases or metals, and largely fell into the stony or crystalline natures. A fairly wide category, but I wasn't getting a lot of help when I was still working on the list before starting this thread.

As for elements and compounds, the first refers to purified or refined elements alone, while compounds would be any mixture of different elements. Again separated by natural states as gases, metals, minerals, etc.
Crap, just realized that I've totally missed liquids.

As for formats, that was a fuckup on my part. I started the thread with one format, changed it slightly for clarity and to make it easier to fill out, and experimented with a third format. The third format (which I use for my personal report) didn't get much support, so I scrapped it in favor of the format currently used by the template.
By this point several people had already filled out their reports, and told me politely they had no intention of changing their submissions. I wasn't interested in pressing the issue.

Anything else?

The New Empire of Sertia

Color codes depict the level of demand for items after the supply provided from in nation resources and services.

Illegal or banned items may still have a local demand, but smugglers may face penalties if caught.
c - This indicates trade of this product is regulated, and requires a permit from the local government. Trade without a permit is deemed illegal, and smugglers may face penalties if caught.

Okay, he's what I would suggest. Use the periodic tables. You remember collage, right? ;)

Divisions are as follows;

Non-Metals -
Alkali Metals -
Base Metals -
Transition Metals -
Alkali Earth Metals -
Rare Earth Metals -
Halogens -
Noble gases -

For "stony" or crystalline materials I would use the term "Silicates" which fits well. Although you might leave an entry for exotic crystals or some such.

otherwise known as alloys.

Water, Superfliuds and deuterium should cover "liquids".

I suppose its fine as it is then.

"The Necrons were amongst the first beings to come into existance, and have sworn that they will rule over the living." - Still surprisingly accurate!
"Be you anywhere from Progress Level 5 or 6 and barely space-competent, all the way up to the current record of PL-20 for beings like the C’Tan..." Lord General Superior Rai’a Sirisi, Xenohumanity
"Many races and faiths have considered themselves to be a threat to the Necrons, but their worlds and their cultures are now little more than interesting archaeology."

The Imperium of Vipra

He's welcome to tag, as long as he later edits that tag post to include his submission.

EDIT: Kyuria and Vipra's submissions are added to the index.

Other Notes
The Federated Union of Democratic Colonies has only recently achieved starfaring status, and only with great assistance from the Fourth Empire of the Dersconi Amaranthine Imperium. Transference of advanced technologies and scientific knowledge, as well as direct economic support, has made the economic situation in the Democratic Colonies most unusual as various industries and economic sectors have been subsidized or otherwise supported in manners which have led to a distortion of natural market conditions.
