"...and, as the Games rapidly approach, the usually quite sedate pace of the city of Ashton has been replaced by a hive of activity. With athletes, officials, and spectators from dozens of nations descend onto this scenic corner of south-west Krytenia, preparations are being made to ensure the Games run smoothly. With the Olympic Village ready to go, and the Mowbray resort checking out the last of its casual guests, the city is ready. The nation is ready. All we need now, is for the competition to get started, an occasion the locals here await with almost tangible excitement. This is Martin Boston, KBS News, in Ashton."

Welcome to Ashton! This picturesque city of some 135,000 people, in the foothills of the Rutian Mountains of south-west Krytenia, is a city with a long history.

History
Originally the home of a local tribe of Mercian natives, the city's name is an Anglicisation of the Ancient Mercian name for the original settlement here - Ašos Tàn (pronounced ash-oss tarn), which roughly translates as "Mother Bear". Local legend says that the first to settle here decided to do so because they saw a bear catching fish in the river. Indeed, the bear is a symbol of the city, and has been for centuries; the original Mercian settlers saw the bear as a spirit of nature and providence, and would never kill a bear, even in self defence, for fear of overturning the balance between man and nature.

Christian explorers later settled in the area, across the river from the natives. The two groups had a relatively harmonious relationship; the Christians (Anglicans, to be precise) would teach the children, and both sides would trade their wares with each other - wool, leather, and elegantly crafted wooden implements for cotton, barley, and ceramics. Sadly, disease and interbreeding would take their toll on the native population, but those who were to live here in the coming centuries were taught the legacies of the natives. Even now, Ashton is a "green" city; most of the city is powered by renewable hydroelectricity, and Ashton has the highest number of electric, hybrid, and LPG vehicles in the country.

Landmarks
Being a provincial city built primarily on the agricultural trade, Ashton has few landmarks, and no skyscrapers. City Hall, however, and its spired clocktower, is a fine example of neo-Renaissance architecture; whilst several pieces of "action" artwork, capturing winter athletes in motion and cast in bronze by local artist Dennis Green, will be on display in ~~Market~~ Olympic Square for the duration of the Games before being relocated to various sites in Ashton and Mowbray.

Nightlife
Plenty of pubs around, but it's more the "quiet drink with friends" type. Anyone who's anyone (and that's not many people) will spend their evenings "throwing shapes" in the town centre, which boasts all of three nightclubs. There's a theatre and a multiplex cinema in the town centre too, but this really isn't a party town. You're best off getting the train about eighty miles north-east, bypassing Leston, and enjoying the cosmopolitan bars and clubs of Dereapolis.

OOC: As I was offline for a year or more, on Maineiacs' calendar, these games follow immediately after the last ones I competed in, the 2nd Winter games.

IC: The team has been set, the athletes are ready, and all Maineiacs waits to see if our Olympians can better their mark of 20 medals that they won at the Commerce Heights games. All of our medalists have returned, along with some new faces. People to watch: Kevin Gerber in the Nordic Combined, Liz Cushman and Warren and Sophia Kelleher in Figure Skating, and of course our Men's and Women's hockey teams. Stay tuned to MSPN for pre-Olympic coverage, and the start of the Games in less than two weeks.

4 years ago at São Jorge, Cafundéu the Qazoxian delegation underperformed, earning only 6 medals in 43 events. Now as the teams are prepared to head for Ashton, Krytenia; a delegation of 108 athletes in 45 events, (a new Qazox Olympic record for event participation); the medal haul is expected to be considerably higher.

Amongst the early favorites, according to us are:

Overall Qazox while not a powerhouse, has done well at the Winter Games and this time will be no exception. The goals for these games are: 3 Gold, 5 silver, 5 bronze and at least 13 total medals.

While Vulshain has competed in several international sporting events already, this will be the nation's first time attending the Olympics. King Samuil Rainard is very proud of the athletes who will be representing Vulshain in the VI Winter Olympics. "I wish them good luck as they go to compete with both honor, determination, and good sportsmanship," King Rainard told the people of his nation.

Some of the athletes that have become quite popular and are expected to do very well in their events are Yinsya Mayana (Figure Skating and Snowboarding), Faddei Varnava (Alpine Skiing), Coline Konstancja (Speed Skating and Cross-country skiing), Bora Watse Kaspar (Speed Skating), Aytaç Kostya Thorben (Speed Skating), and Serafima Leni (Snowboarding and Speed Skating). In addition, the Skiing Sisters, Rebekka and Alania Reinhilde, are very talented skiiers and both are competing in the freestyle skiing event. Coline Konstancja, dubbed the Lightning Wolf due to the lightning bolt-like streaks on her fur, is expected to do extremely well in speed skating as well as cross-country skiing.

Yinsya Mayana, as well as her cousin Vanyo Borya won the bronze medal in the Ice Dancing event in the 2010-2011 Valhalla Skating Grand Prix hosted by Delaclava, and both have entered the VI Winter Olympics' Ice Dancing Event. Yinsya Mayana has also entered the ladies' singles figure skating event, and is expected to do exceptionally well in that event. Yinsya has been selected to be the flag bearer during the Opening Ceremony. "It is a great honor to carry my nation's flag during the Opening Ceremony," a teary-eyed and prideful Yinsya told reporters.

Sadly, Vesinina Aeksey and Reko Aeksey, the husband and wife pair of the Vulshainian Ice Skating Team who won the gold medal in the ice dancing pairs event of the Valhalla Skating Grand Prix, were unable to attend. Many had hoped that they would participate in the pairs event for the VI Winter Olympics, but doctors advised against it as Vesinina is now three months pregnant. She was two months pregnant when she attended the Valhalla Skating Grand Prix. "While I am disappointed that my husband and I will not be able to participate in the Olympics, I wish all of my fellow Vulshainians good luck in their events," Vesinina told VCNMN.

The men's team for the nordic combined event are also expected to do extremely well, and they have been practicing very hard. "We all know each other very well, having grown up together. So, it makes sense that we're all on the same team," team member Volker Wenzel told VCNMN.

Some of the Vulshainian athletes in this year's Winter Olympics have commented that they plan to attend this year's Summer Olympics as well. "I was on the gymnastics team back in school, and I hope to participate in this year's Summer Olympics," Coline Konstancja told reporters after announcing that she would participate in the gymnastics portion of the 2011 Summer Olympics later this year.

VCNMN will be reporting the events that Vulshain has entered. VCNMN will also broadcast live the opening ceremony on February 11.

Interview: Liventia Olympic Association chief press officer Terry Reynolds

Ahead of the upcoming Sixth Winter Olympics in Ashton, Krytenia, the Liventia Olympic Association's head media relations honcho Terry Reynolds sat down with the Broadcasting Corporation of Liventia's Olympics correspondent, Matthew Patterson, at the LOA's Orean headquarters to discuss about everything from the collapse of JACOT, to the Independent Athletes of Liventia's participation at the last Summer Olympics, to the proposal of Ad’ihani pentathlon as a demonstration event at the upcoming Games.

Matthew Patterson (MP): Good afternoon to you, Terry, and thank you for speaking to us at BCL Olympics. If I may, first, begin with a review of the last Summer Olympics. Liventia participated as a part of the Combined Olympic Team, which won a total of eleven medals, with two golds and two bronzes won by Liventians.

Terry Reynolds (TR): It was a pretty good return for our money, and we were quite happy to win the two gold medals, one in shooting and one in cycling. We went there as an equal to Ad’ihan and Tyoduura in our agreement to enter a joint team and considering we contributed two-thirds of the team's gold medal haul it was very pleasing, yes.

MP: That said, things didn't go that smoothly, did they? As we now know, the Independent Athletes — 165 athletes from 10 sporting federations in Liventia, recognised as national sports federations by the LOA — pretty much gave you the V-sign. And they came back from Outineau with 26 medals, 12 of them gold — the best-ever return for a Liventian team at an Olympics.

TR: And we were genuinely happy for them at the LOA. When we agreed to do the JACOT (Joint Association of the Combined Olympic Team) deal with the COIA — Ad’ihan's Olympic committee — and with Tyoduura, we knew we couldn't send all our athletes and we had to prioritise who to send. It was a balancing act as the Ad’ihanis had already finalised their team and were not willing to move on a lot of the entries.

Yes, they were unhappy that they'd not made the Olympic team and that Ad’ihan arguably dominated the Combined Team delegation, and we fielded several calls and emails, not always the most pleasant, from people at high levels at these federations. When they came to us and said they were entering the Olympics without our backing, we knew we couldn't afford to fracture the Liventian sporting community so we gave them our agreement to let them participate at the Games, and even march in under the name "Liventia" at the parade of nations.

MP: And, you still haven't answered this point, they proved you wrong, didn't they? The best-ever performance by a Liventian team at an Olympic Games, in fact their return of 26 medals was better than the entire Liventian Olympic history up to that point! Twelve gold medals, six times the Liventian return from participating in the Combined Team.

TR: As I said, we were happy for them to enter the Games as a Liventian representative team, and of course as Liventians we were all happy to see them do well. It wasn't a matter of, 'oh, they're not the official Liventian team, so who cares', from when we saw Clementine Plante break the Olympic record in women's 48 kilogram weightlifting on the first day to the two boxing gold medals on the final day, we were all proud to hear the Call of the Liventian Republic.

MP: So then, the break-up of JACOT. We knew from before the Fifth Summer Olympics that the Ad’ihanis were going to enter the upcoming Sixth Winter Olympics on their own, but how exactly has this gone since the Outineau Games closed?

TR: The day we got back from Outineau we went straight back to work as the Liventia Olympic Association. The JACOT office room we had here at our headquarters, we turned back into a regular conference room. We knew the Ad’ihanis were not willing to continue with the JACOT deal and unfortunately it does not make much sense for us to send a combined team with Tyoduura when there would only be maybe less than five per cent of the team made up of Tyoduurans. We would rather have an all-Liventian team and maybe we'd get to avoid the mess of another Independent Athletes team.

MP: And the Tyoduurans? How have they reacted?

TR: JACOT, of course, started at the Fifth Winter Olympics in São Jorge, in Cafundéu, where we had I believe five or six Tyoduurans in the entire delegation. Then of course Tyoduura's National Sports Council backed another team to represent one of its own outlying territories at those Games and that did not go down well either with us or the Ad’ihanis.

When it came to Outineau the number of Tyoduurans decreased even more I believe, not counting their numbers in the team sports. And by that time we knew Ad’ihan wouldn't be coming to Krytenia as part of a Combined Team so by then the Tyoduurans pretty much knew. We had to tell them it just wasn't in our best interests. We want to compete here as a single team representing our country, not as a team with a hundred representing Liventia and five representing some small, faraway land.

MP: All right, let's move on then. After the last Summer Olympics, things really kicked into gear in Liventia as the Paralympic Association of Liventia started ramping things up ahead of the world's first Paralympics. The PAL is advised very closely by the LOA and in addition to being the LOA's chief press officer, you are also a senior executive board member at the PAL. How did the buildup to Neverend go?

TR: Right. When I came back from Outineau and met my PAL colleagues we began to look seriously at the logistics of hosting a World Paralympic Games. It had already been in the discussion books as I'm sure you'll remember from even as far back as in São Jorge. When our initial plan of hosting a full-scale event with both summer and winter sports on the calendar, perhaps co-hosted, broke down after failing to agree on some technical aspects of a cohosting bid, we turned our attention to organising a Winter Games.

Of course, there is no official Paralympic movement unlike the Olympic Council so we took it upon ourselves to organise the first Games, and we began looking at possible host cities and really it came down to Neverend or City Centre. Both had its pros and cons; Neverend hosted the Heartland Winter Games more than ten years ago and City Centre is not too far from the stunning backdrop of Mt. Konshua but we went with the plan that could help rebuild and regenerate Neverend as a city.

We put out notice to possible interested Olympic nations and we're happy to have received such a good response. We had twenty National Paralympic Committees participate at the first Winter World Paralympics in Neverend, which is half of the number that did the first Winter Olympics so that's a good start.

MP: And Liventia did well, second in the medal table.

TR: It was a great performance from our point of view, we weren't sure where we would measure up against the others but eleven gold medals from a possible 67 was quite simply very good and we far and away met our expectations of eight golds, twenty total medals, and top three in the table. And it was great to see so many nations get on the table, I think only two delegations didn't get on the podium. So everyone got a little bit of the glory and that was a great show of Paralympic sport.

MP: And, unsurprisingly, some of them have done well enough to earn places on the full Winter Olympic team going to Ashton.

TR: Purely on merit and nothing else. They've done fantastically well and they managed to keep up with the able-bodied athletes in our trials, so there was no reason not to pick them. And the figure skaters, they may be visually impaired but they are just so graceful on the ice you'd never know they can't see.

MP: Plans for a summer Paralympics in the works then?

TR: I'm not sure about that. We're looking at the feasibility of hosting one but I wouldn't get too excited about it just yet.

MP: Okay, let's turn our attention to the upcoming Olympics in Krytenia then. Does the LOA have any specific targets?

TR: We've yet to win a Winter Olympics gold medal since before the nation as we know it was founded by the Liventia Bill, so that would be nice, certainly. We're looking for hopefully two gold medals, and five total medals, which would match our return from the inaugural Winter Olympics.

There's Pearline Jones, who's a biathlete, she won gold in Outineau in pistol shooting and she could become only the eighth athlete in history to win medals in both a summer and a winter Games, so we'll be looking for her to produce some magic.

MP: Now, the LOA has given its backing for the inclusion of Ad’ihani quadrathlon as a demonstration sport. This sport is mostly only contested in Liventia and Ad’ihan, so care to explain the thought processes behind that?

TR: When the COIA faxed in their final entry list to the organisers, they sent us an email about their proposal to include Ad’ihani quadrathlon as a demonstration event at these Games, to be simply called 'winter pentathlon'. Now, winter pentathlon, for some, includes fencing and equestrianism, like a modern pentathlon, and we wanted to show the Olympic community our own version of it. The name itself probably already confuses many of them, why's it called a pentathlon when there's only four component parts, for example.

But in any case it's a great opportunity to open the sport up to a wider audience and I'm pleased that other Olympic committees, like Delaclava and The Babbage Islands, have added their support for the inclusion of winter pentathlon at these Games.

The Mantwenic Winter Olympic delegation had arrived at the Benshawk International Airport two hours ago to get ready to make the seven hour flight to Ashton. The athletes were in a pretty good mood for the most part, talking nervously about what they hoped would become their first olympics with a medal. This was everyone's first winter olympics and so they all had the right to be somewhat nervous. As they all sat at the gate and waited, watching the morning news to see what was going on around Manwenic. When suddenly the announcer made a troubled look at the new sheet of paper she had received during the commercial break, and then with a deep breath she reported that Mantwenic's neighbors by sea, Cafundeu, was up to something mysterious. As the breaking news had just come out that fisherman Patrick Larsen from the island province of St. Philips had been fishing off the northern coast of the province closest to a Cafundeese island no one knew much about. When he returned to his home a few days later there was a letter from the Cafundeese government... taxing him for fishing in "their water"! Patrick Larsen though refused to pay the tax and waited for his punishment. The olympic delegation would normally not get upset about this except that Patrick Larsen was the father of skier Liam Larsen.

"WHAT!!! This is so absurd, how could they, I can't believe this!" were all the comments that Liam Larsen could say in these next few minutes. His teammates tried their best to comfort him as they prepared to board the plane to Ashton. Something was up, Liam Larsen wasn't quite sure what it was, his father had not been the first person to fish north of the island, he knew that. For he had gone fishing with his father and others in that water before and nothing had happened to his knowledge. This anger that burned in him soon turned into fuel for the olympics and for revenge against the athletes that represented Cafundeu, he knew it wasn't their fault but, they were the only Cafundeese citizens he would see for two weeks. Liam just couldn't imagine why, why Cafundeu would tax his father among all of the fishermen in his town of Hemerton, St. Philips Island that fished in the northern water. As they boarded the plane they were told over the intercom that the flight was to take longer, maybe even nine hours because they were afraid to fly over Cafundeu without being taxed so they had to fly around it. The athletes groaned at the sound of that news, but the conversations continued none the less as they took off for Ashton.

In reality, the incident involving Mantwenic had started during the summer. The Emperor Raúl Conte, or just Raúl I, went to his private island in order to enjoy the beautiful beaches of it, something that the royal family does every year. Not many people live on Ilha do Mel, and these people are only there in order to offer all sort of assistance to the Emperor and his relatives during the summer, and to keep the island beautiful so they can enjoy it. So, there is a small village in Ilha do Mel, where all the Empire's workers live, but this village is far away from the main beach, directed towards the open sea, where the royal family's house is. A huge building, a true palace, with a beautiful view. The Emperor always loved the view and his private beaches, but one day he expressed his unhappiness about the island to one of his advisors:

"There are too many people on that other island... from the palace, I can view them. Fishermen, it seems. All walking around, boats moving... during all my infancy I came here to see the view from the palace, and it was always beautiful... the sky, the sea, nothing more. Now these people are coming and going... it is polluting the view! Simply polluting the view! And what more can happen? What if they use chemicals, they can pollute the beaches too, my beaches! Honestly, I order you to remove them from that place!"

"Sorry, Your Highness, but that island is not a part of Cafundéu, you should know this. That is Mantwenic, sir, they are our neighbours, we have good relations with them. I understand that their activities there may have an impact on this island, but they have rights over their land."

"Ah, sorry for that. But something must be done, they must understand that I want to enjoy the summer in my island!"

"But fishing is important for their living there, they cannot stop."

"Well, let's respect the practices of our dear neighbours then, alright? But some kind of compensation must come in exchange for they polluting the view... we must follow the Cafundelense way of solving these conflicts! Let's tax all the activities done in this part of the sea! A price for each passing boat, for each fish fished, for each person swimming... they must pay for using this area! After all, this water is of Cafundéu, isn't it? Is so close from Ilha do Mel, surely our laws show it as part of our waters."

"But these are not exclusive Cafundelense areas... it is within our water limits, but also on theirs, and common sense made us treat that water area as part of Mantwenic, as it is closer to their land than it is to ours."

"In law they can be ours, so I will tax this. This may not stop them from using those beaches, but at least will give us some extra money and may even reduce the activity there, thus improving the view."

"So, this is just because of the view from the palace?"

And, after months of preparations, the act imposing tax on the activities done on the water area between Cafundéu and Mantwenic was put into place. The public critics coming from Mantwenic citizens is affecting the Cafundelense population. Now it is winter, and the Winter Olympics are about to start. Perhaps an opportunity to defeat them as a punishment for all these critics.

Yes, hello Hannah and hello Albertasby. I'm here live in Ashton as the Albertasbian Winter Olympic team have just touched down. It is our first ever entry to the competition and, although we have performed quite well in recent debuts like the World Cup and the World Cup of Hockey, sceptics are highly doubtful as to our performance in this competition with so many world class athletes.

Her video report begins to run as Sarah narrates it.

This is Ashton, a normally quite sleepy village has been transformed into a hive of activity. The Olympic village is all ready and the athletes are arriving from all over. The Albertasbian Team arrived earlier on this morning and have headed straight for the Olympic village. The team coach has told all journalists that they wish the team to be left alone until the opening ceremony, to allow the athletes to remain in their current state of mind. Back to the studio.

The mood in Izarius in the buildup to the Winter Olympics is one of cautious optimism. The once strong Izarian skiing program is now non-existant, as Izarius was forced to hand over the snowy mountains along its border to Fizbar at the end of the 1974 war. Nevertheless, the Izarian skating program is continues to thrive. Figure skater Brogen is expected to show a respectable performance. The Izarius Sports Bureau invested heavily in women's sports, and this has paid with figure skaters Pela and Svena, in addition to speed skater Zli.

Izarius now has a generation that never experienced the 1974 war, and today's athletes compete with an energy that was lacking in the previous generation associated with despair.

Only few days before the official start of the "VI Winter Olympic Games", and of course, we wonder about our athletes preparations, hopes, and ambitions.
"Lill'Verlden Journal" went to Krytenia to answer to all our questions about the Hakklensk athletes participating in this big event.
Once in the hotel, the athletes were glad to welcome us and to finally find someone to speak with in Hakklensk. Certainly, the athletes know that they have lot of hard work to do, they also know that the opponents can have more experience since our athletes are younger and it's our first participation. However, they show a very important preparation and motivation, that may lead them to the podium.
Finally, our athletes seem to be very satisfied with the organisation, and hope that the world discovers the talented youth of Hakkland

Good morning. I'm your host, Tim Landon. We're gearing up here for the Sixth Winter Olympics, which are being hosted in Ashton, Krytenia. Krytenia won the right to host these Games by defeating Saeglopur, Golgothastan 12-7 in a vote held at an Olympic Council meeting between representatives of Olympic committees from around the world.

Let's take a look at some of the stories that surround our delegation at these Olympics.

The Delaclava Olympic Committee has faced backlash from many independent sporting bodies after the DOC slashed three sports from Delaclava's delegation - bobsleigh, nordic combined, and skeleton. The official statement from the DOC: "We feel that our programs in these disciplines are no longer viable at the Olympic level. If the governing bodies of the sports in question can demonstrate that they deserve places in our delegation, we will consider a reversal of our decision in future Winter Olympiads."

Meanwhile, Delaclava's alpine skiing, biathlon, and cross-country skiing federations have given praise to the DOC for massively expanding their programs in the Olympic delegation. Delaclava Skiing Union president Lionel Marx commented, "We're pleased that the higher committees have viewed our sports to be exciting and promising. Our skiers are prepared to give their best performance in Ashton and vindicate their decision."

However, not everyone is entirely happy. Brady Hall, Mark Hall, Stephanie Stanton, and Maya Hall, who represented Delaclava in cross-country skiing at the previous Winter Games in Sao Jorge, have had their roles in that sport severely diminished for this Olympiad, in addition to being cut from Nordic Combined. However, the four are all included largely in the biathlon. This move is at the expense of Lana Jacobs, who was the only female biathlete for Delaclava at the Sao Jorge Olympics and has now been removed entirely from the team.

Outside the DSU, the world is not entirely shocked at the moves, considering the young stars that have emerged to take their places - Daniel Ammer, Sygmon Valov, Carly Robinette, and Aliza Nestor. The sudden success of the 19-year-old Ammer in his first year on the national cross-country skiing circuit has driven the majority of sports fans behind him and fellow dominator 16-year-old Valov in support to win medals in both skiing and biathlon in Ashton. Robinette and Nestor, each 20 years old, also have gained a following from Delaclav sporting fans, as well as the media - those who don't know Robinette as a skier may know her otherwise as the cover girl of the recently released yearly issue of Top Hat Swimsuit.

On another note, the four rookies are also being sent to pioneer the just-approved demonstration sport of Winter Pentathlon. The sport, proposed by Ad'ihan's Olympic Committee, includes biathlon sprint - which contributes two disciplines, cross-country skiing and shooting, and will be 10km for men and 7.5km for women - alpine downhill skiing, a one-kilometer speed skating race, and normal hill ski jumping for men or skeleton for women. The sport has received sufficient support, including from the DOC, to be included for the first time at Ashton.

A few shakeups in the figure skating lineup - Aaron Kahn has been replaced by young skater Oliy Baryzhnov. After Kahn had a disappointing showing at the Valhalla Skating Grand Prix, Baryzhnov defeated both Kahn and Brian Triniczek to win silver at the national championships, behind Simon Sepulveda, who won his sixth consecutive national championship. On the women's side, Brenda Sachinova was replaced by Jamie Sale, who was third in ladies' singles at the Valhalla event. Although Malia Torina finished worse than Sachinova there, Torina finished fourth at nationals while Sachinova was fifth. Stacy Urgeveos won a fifth consecutive national championship, Sale was second, and Danila Gotti was third. Gotti injured her ankle in training just before registration and her guaranteed spot was given to Torina. In pairs, Sachinova and Triniczek have been replaced by Urgeveos and Baryzhnov, a team that formed just days before nationals. Baryzhnov said about the team:

"I was originally at Camp Apollo to train for the Olympics, but I moved to Flat Rock to be closer to my mother, who was ill with Grigoro. Stacy was also at Flat Rock, so we trained together for a few days. Then we tried a pairs program as a bit of a break from the usual tempo, and it was clear that the natural chemistry was there. We registered as a pair for nationals the next day."

Urgeveos and Baryzhnov ended up winning silver, just 0.72 of a point behind Sepulveda and Sale.

A few shakeups also occurred in the speed skating lineup, although all changes were harmonious. Ellen Zimmer retired after her Olympic appearance in Sao Jorge. Sonya Larson did not try out for her Sao Jorge events, the 1000, 1500, and 3000 meter races, because she did not have enough time to train after giving birth to her son. Larson was replaced in her two shorter events by Joanna Curry, who skated only in the 500 at Sao Jorge, while Marie Gordon replaced Zimmer in the 500 and Larson in the 3000. Larson is still a part of the Team Pursuit, which won a bronze medal in Sao Jorge.

There ended up being no changes in short track speed skating, although the biggest drama was probably caused in that area. In September, the DOC announced that Marie Gordon, who was part of a team that won gold in the women's 3000m relay, would be excluded from the Olympics because she was too old. The 42-year-old is the oldest winner of an Olympic gold medal for Delaclava, being 38 when she, Nina LaRoche, Mitsuko Ono, and Lee Tyong-Sung got to the top of the podium in the relay. There was strong protest from Gordon's teammates. To quote Tyong-Sung:

"It doesn't matter how old she is. She's an integral part of our relay, and she helped us beat skaters 10, 15, even 20 years younger than her, and she's continued to do so on the national circuit. There's not a better choice than her to get us back to the gold. Rogerre will send Marie or he'll have to find himself a new relay team."

Len Rogerre, the DOC president, announced the next day that Gordon would be reincluded on the relay team, and she was placed on two long track events in the registration as well.

Ad’ihani pentathlon included on Winter Olympic programme
AD’IHAN— It was confirmed today that the locally-developed sport of Ad’ihani pentathlon will be a demonstration event at the Sixth Winter Olympics which begin next week in Ashton, Krytenia.

The sport's governing body, the Ad’ihani Pentathlon Sport Union (APSU) based in City Centre, Liventia, said that six National Olympic Committees had given their approval for the sport to appear on the Games programme under the name of winter pentathlon, and it will therefore be contested by at least five of the six supporting nations which have chosen to send athletes.

The APSU's Liventian president, Greg Chalmers, described the news as "hugely rewarding and gratifying", and said the organisation would send its technical advisors to Krytenia at the "earliest time possible" to help with the logistics of running the event.

Ad’ihani delegation arrives in Liventia en route to Games
Orean, LIVENTIA— The 101-member Ad’ihani delegation to the Sixth Winter Olympics arrived in Orean, Liventia today to begin a two-day acclimatisation programme in Neverend before leaving for Ashton, Krytenia.

The team is Ad’ihan's biggest ever sent to a Winter Olympics, with 66 members competing in competitive non-team sports, 10 in curling—the only competitive team sport Ad’ihan is entering at these Games, and 25 in demonstration events including a team of 21 in bandy. This is larger than the 57 athletes Ad’ihan sent to the Fifth Winter Olympics as part of the Combined Team and the 67 it sent on its own to the Fourth Winter Olympics. For the first time, Ad’ihan will be taking part in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, freestyle skiing and snowboarding at the Games.

The 101 athletes will spend two days in the Winter Paralympic host city of Neverend to acclimatise to the cold weather and begin their pre-Games training in similar conditions before they make the long 22-hour trip to Ashton, via Timiocato, Pacitalia.

The National Olympic Committee, which has seen a return of two gold, one silver and one bronze from its two previous Winter Olympics, has set a target of three gold medals at these Games.

SuperLlama, our country’s superman should have been the flagbearer who will lead our athletes into the stadium for the Olympics. But he is dealing with the malfunctioning self-aware computer HAL-O on the Orbital Space Station. As a result, I will be taking his place as our country’s flagbearer.

As the Emperor I cannot only be the flagbearer, so I have also signed up for the men’s 10 km speed skating event. I’m doing it for no other reason than I’m a PRO skater who skates regularly and wants to compete in said event. Other than that, I will be one of the three athletes in the men’s team pursuit event. I bet everyone of my citizens probably thinks I’m just trying to be macho as usual.

LlamaOnenian Olympiads Are Ready For The Olympics!

The Sixth Winter Olympic Games that will be held in Ashton, Krytenia will be our country’s first foray into the Olympics. All LlamaOnenians wait with baited breath as they wonder how our 1st contingent of athletes will perform in the Olympics.

Our athletic program is new and even our most promising athletes have not have much training. The only exception to this rule is a surprise even to us. We did not expect our own Emperor to represent us in the games. Vladimir Snyder skates like the devil and he may have a chance at winning a medal. All LlamaOnenians have our eyes upon him. Go Vladimir!

Other promising athletes we hope will win medals are Claudia Ibanez who will represent us in alpine skiing, figure skaters Ryker Casillas and Ella Jagr, Lakeisha Gump (runner, skier) and track runner Nikolai Khrushchev. All of us wonder whether our athletes will win any medals and whether it is gold, silver or bronze. Even one bronze medal will be a great news!

Th Lycrabon Olympic Team has arrived in Ashton, with high hopes for equaling or bettering the all-time mark that Barnettsville attained in their combined Olympics (2). Spirits were high as the arrived, especially after hearing about Mercersburg Mike, the prognosticating woodchuck, not seeing his shadow this morning -- thereby predicting an early spring. LSPN will have exclusive Lycrabon coverage for the duration of the games.

(OOC: Mercersburg Mike is a blatant theft from my nearby friendly neighborhood groundhog -- the internationally famous one, that is.)

The delegates from Carasatoga arrived in Ashton, Krytenia today, just over a week before opening ceremonies. This will be Carasatoga's first time ever competing in the Winter Olympic Games and fans and athletes are amazed at everything that is happening in the olympic village of Ashton. One athlete called the village, "The most beautiful snow-covered place I have ever seen in my life." Expectations are not extravagant, but somewhat high for the athletes, the NOC expecting at least one medal in the nation's first ever games. Here on TVC Sports we will have continuous coverage of the games from here in Ashton, highlighting the more exciting contests, and we hope you continue to tune in and cheer on your nation. Vekaiyu Prepares for Winter Olympics

ASTON - The athletes from Vekaiyu arrived in the Krytenian city of Ashton today, full of pride and vigor. While the athletes are overall confident in their abilities, they are also aware of Vekaiyu's first ever Winter Olympics appearance.

"I don't know how we will do in this competition, but I'm sure we will give it our all," flag bearer Yuso Avelkare commented as he left the departure gates. Yuso is anticipated to perform at a medal-level in freestyle skiing. A native of Uligisa, a town in the province of Sevinire, the 25-year-old has been skiing the Ta'lavero mountains just after he learned to walk.

Vekaiyu is sending a total of 94 athletes in a variety of different events. Vekaiyu is especially looking to do well in figure skating, skiing, and snowboarding among other events.

During the Summer Olympics, Vekaiyu surprised many nations by finishing second overall in swimming events. It had achieved what it had set out to prove: they were very good at swimming, but in addition they proved to be among the world's elite in such events, finishing eighteen overall in what proved to be a very competitive Summer Games. Now, with the nation looking to compete in its first winter Olympics, it will no doubt learn from its first experience and expect to compete in many winter events.

SM- As our nations primary hopes at winning a medal, we have been training hard, and wish to fill you in.
KK- I have been working on my agility. After crashing at the recent world championship with victory in sight, I vow to have smooth runs the entire games. In addition, I have improved my skill set. Don't be surprised to see some flips mid-air during races.
SM- I have worked on my endurance. The idea is that if I can out last my opponents, my kick will completely destroy the competition. I have also worked on my finish. I will not be beat at the tape.

Gold Medalists Look For More

It may have only been two years since the last time a winter olympics was held, but in Taeshan it has been a whole lifetime. The government had a total collapse and until recently anarchy reigned in the great nation. Well shit happens is my mantra, and as goes the great nation. Just in time for the olympics though it seems the country is back on its feet, metaphorically speaking. And one thing has brought them together. In the land of ice and snow hockey was never a great sport, but 2 years ago a team changed a nation, they one the Gold, and then just weeks before the olympics that team is what brought a whole nation back together, and back onto its feet. Taeshan is whole once again thanks to hockey. They look to achieve more in the upcoming year, and along with the rest of the olympic team bring glory to the coldest nation in the world. We'll see you on the slopes mates.
