Dystopian factbook (semi-open, TG for questions.)

Postby Dystopianus » Thu Jan 06, 2011 12:19 pm

So, first things first. The title of this topic may be somewhat misleading. This is not a real factbook as you might know it. It mostly contains geographical information, is a massive WIP, and might not show the most important things you want to know about my nation. In fact, it's more for my own reference of where my oversea terretories and allies lie.

No, I will probably never complete this stuff. I'll be honest: I'm just too lazy for that. Besides, I got a lot of unfinished storefronts (I put loads of attention in my designs.)

This topic is closed, however. I might need the extra space for expansion as soon as I am more interested in completing my factbook. However I will post a seperate topic where you can ask for any information not found in the factbook.

Now that's covered, let's begin.

Factbook of the Greater Holy Deostopian Empire

The Greater Holy Empire of Dystopianus is a gargantuan, devout nation, ruled by Emperor Myrad the fifth with an firm hand, and remarkable for its extensive social welfare projects. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.5 billion are rabid consumers, yet wealth is not always equally divided, even though the goverment tries it's best to improve this situation.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the colossal capital city of Minervia. Income tax is 25%, but much lower for the poor. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Automobile Manufacturing, and Mining industries.

Guns in are banned, and euthanasia is legal. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Dystopianus's national animal is the Lynx, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Mithraism, and its currency is the Sestertia.

Namesake
Semi-OOC note: Some guy mistranslated "Deorum Pars" to "Deo Topia", and another guy mistranslated that to to "Deostopia", and when another guy came in who found this country sucked, he thought we had originally meant "Dystopia". The name stuck.

Where the "Nus" comes from? It's perhaps some other mistranslation by people who think every Latin word ends with "us".

OOC: Not really. The real reason why it is named that way is because when I started I wanted an "evil" future version of my first nation, Andorianus. Gradually I became much less interested in running an evil nation, and eventually it became a normal country like all others with a sort of Roman background. Now I play with this nation even more often then Andorianus; it is Andorianus that is now my puppet.

To sort of "justify" the weird name I had chosen, I pretended it was a "mistranslation" to English of "Deos Topia", which back then I thought was proper latin.

If I could change my name, I would. This name messes up my global reputation in the international community.

Geographical information

The nation of Dystopianus lies at the Western land group of the New Pacific Empire. (OOC: As of now. I am currently drawing a different and better map.) It is a fairly large piece of land with a moderate climate, and is so large and diverse its landscape can not be described in a few minutes.

Dystopianus is located in the New Pacific Empire, a conglemorate of influential nations working together in ecomomical, political, and military operations. The Dystopian Empire's goverment is widely known as the "spokesman" of the region in international manners, informing the outside world, or the goverments and people inside the empire of anything related to the New Pacific Empire. The Greater Dystopian Empire is also a member of the NPE security council and it is also one of the three nations participating in the NPE rapid response force.

The geographical names of countries and terretories below are of additional (oversea) terretories belonging or otherwise related to the Dystopian Empire. They are sorted by category first, and further divided in alphabetical order.

Colonies:
Topia Dalkoria
Topia Dalkoria is a landmass that lies to the west of the Dystopian mainland. It is largely a desert land, and is commonly viewed as a wasteland. That view is pretty much true. After 1300 A.D. society collapsed and no such thing as a government or monarchy came in place.

In these modern times, the Greater Dystopian Empire now has the tools to bring order back to this country, which is partially a massive slum, and partially a hideout for all kinds of criminals and terrorists staging attacks on Dystopian cities. However the Dalkorian people all have their own minds and ideas at what freedom means, and according to them freedom is the right to shoot any foreign order-lovers entering their precious slums.

Officially Dalkoria is a colony of Dystopianus, but the Dalkorians have declared themselves independant and the Dystopians have let them. Dalkoria isn't much worth from an economical point of view anyways, but there are exceptions.

Dalkoria does house a few small bastions of order: the Macrosoft facility at Wolfenheim is the most well-known one and probably the only true city in Dalkoria, as well as the only place where foreigners can breathe safely. Macrosoft uses Wolfenheim as a headquarters to construct their computers which are constructed there. But other Dalkorians from the wastelands are viewed with suspicion, and Wolfenheim is heavely guarded by Macrosoft's policemen who make sure the only thing people don't do anything but working at the massive factories and offices in the city centre.
Topia Katoren
Katoren's history also has ancient roots, but much more prestigious ones. Katoren lies to the east of Dystopianus, at the Remulos Archipelago and the colder land beyond that.

Many of the islands in the Remulos region have belonged to Katoren in the past (and vica versa), and many of them are still under dispute, even while Katoren is a colony now. Because although Katoren has voluntarely acknowledged to be a Dystopian colony back in 1600 A.D., they still hold their honour and values. As of such, senators in the Dalkoria region continuesly debate about where the borders of Topia Remulos and Topia Katoren lie. That is, until last year when the Citadel decided there was no more debate possible about the borders of Katoren and the current borders were about to stay.

Interestingly there has never been any sorts uprising of sorts in Katoren, much unlike Dalkoria. This might be because Katoren is a much more prospering land, and this has mostly been since the warring Katoren city-states have been abolished in 1800 and unified under a common flag.

The Katoren climate is quite soft, although it can be cold during winters. An exception is the northeastern part of Katoren, where most of the land are tundras and mountains and very little people live. Topia Katoren is also rich of natural resources: overall the land is very fertile and known for its sprawling modern potatoe farms. In the southern region, oil and natural gas can be found. This part of Katoren is therefore most likely one of the most prospering and moden parts of Katoren.

In the colder eastern regions, there still are some farms but most of the income there comes from the mining of Tantalum and copper. Some further to the north, iron ore can be found: this ore is most likely the only reason why there are still communities there, as it is quite cold in the northen regions.

Another pillar of the Katoren industry is tourism. The islands of Katoren used to be bastions of the old "goverments" spread throughout the land, and many of the interesting castles and fortresses have been preserved. Apart from that, nature is relatively unharmed in many parts of Katoren and the weather can be quite pleasing during summer. Plus accomodation for tourists is cheap here. That makes it a very popular touristic site for many Dystopians.

The other forms of actual manafacturing industry or commercial services never really got off the ground. With Dystopianus overshadowing Dalkoria, most companies are more interested in Dystopianus where the economical benefits are much better.
Topia Kala
This rather large colony (slightly smaller in area then Australia, by comparison) was quite recently bought over from Kalasparata, a country in desperate need of some funds. Ten years ago the goverment was willing to sell some unhabited land for some fast cash, and the Dystopian empire took the bait.

Not much can be told about the history of Kala. It has always been a tropical jungle only habited by a few monkeys and natives that lived on the other side of the continent. In fact it did not even had a name when the Dystopians colonised it, so they named it after its previous owner: Kalasparata.

Topia Kala is now one of the largest farmlands in Dystopianus. Its tropical climate makes it excellent for growing foods like mangoes and bananas. Apart from that it used to be a popular touristic resort, although nowadays most people stay away because of severe competition from Russandrian tourist resorts. But as with Topia Katoren, real industry or commercial services never really got off the ground.

Like on the Dystopian mainland, the main power source is nuclear power. Uranium can be shipped from Dystopianus quite easely.
Topia Serenelia
Topia Serenelia is a colony founded 20 years ago on the newly discovered Serenelia continent, and has long been the sign of hope an prospirity. Topia Serenelia was advertised as the place where technology would go together in a new society on a new world, and remarkably enough it seems this dream has been realised.

Topia Vrede
Topia Ceasar
Topia Euleos
Topia Eden (sometimes known as Topia Weronaly or Topia Atlantica)
Topia Pampus
Topia Sapienta
Topia Titania
Topia Britannia
Topia Artereus

Social-economic structure
Even though the Dystopian social-economic structure is often described as "right", it is in fact more of a third-way economy. Corporations sure are important in Dystopianus, but those corporations are also tasked with all kinds of jobs for the greater good, instead of just creating profit. For example, corporations are required to invest in work projects to reduce the unemployment rate. Corporations also need to build simple housing projects for their workers, unless these workers can afford a house of their own.

Basically, everything in Dystopianus is owned by a corporation. Money does exist, but it is only used for luxury goods or by tourists, as the more basic goods (clothing, food) are all free, and provided by the corporation you work for.

Dystopianus also has a class-based system, but we do have more then enough ways to rise or fall in classes. That way the talented and gifted will rise in class, whilst the lazy will drop. The system is described below.

The highest class is that of "Grand leaders" or "Senators". These people have extensive power but are bound to eachother in order to run a country (this is to prevent abuse of the system). These classes include
--The emperor and his family
--The high priests
--The premier
--The supreme commander of the military
--The higher politicians (ministers)

Also note that while high priests are also on this list they don't have much to say in the decision making process. They do have a certain "cultural" value that makes them respected by the people.

Below that is the class of "Minor leaders" or just "Leaders". These include all kinds of professions, such as:
--General
--Medium priests
--Political advisors
--CEO
--Representative of the goverment
--Minor politicians (diplomats)

Below that is the "Commander citizen" class or just "Commanders". As the name suggest they usally lead others. They do not have that much influence on their own but are generally very wealthy and have responsible jobs. This class is very broad, and includes:
--Minor priests
--Police officer
--Administrator
--Manager
--Teacher
--Scientist
--Architect

And below that is the "Citizen" class. Which contains pretty much the rest. Examples:
--Shopkeeper
--Factory worker
--Farmer
--Administrator
--Bus driver
--Cleaner
--Buisnessman
--Everyone younger then 10 (with the exception of the Imperial family)

A somewhat unofficial class is the convicts. People who have not obeyed the law are sent to prison. Because people do need to work in prison, and because most higher classes see these people as scumbags who are lower in status then Citizens, this is sometimes seen as another class on its own. However the goverment officially denies that claim to prevent discrimination of criminals so that they can be rehabilitated in society more easely once they get free.

Another somewhat unofficial class is the military, as it has its own ranking structure that places many people in between "commander citizens" and "minor leaders". Generally speaking anyone who is a captain or lower in rank is a commander citizen, whilst anyone higher is a minor leader. As the soldiers tend to be somewhat "above the fray" many of them feel like they are actually an independant class in between leaders and commanders.

MilitaryThe Dystopian military is widely considered as a regional superpower, and that is not a luxery considering Dystopianus has so many nations to defend. Although Dystopianus does not leave a lot of information about its military (OOC: that's not because it's classified, but more because I'm too lazy to fill in all the details and fill them in properly. That will take months if not years.) it is widely known that the Dystopian military is exceptionally well trained, excellently equipped, and loyal to the bone. If that wasn't enough, their numbers appearently raise into the millions, and their reservists are even more numerous. The Dystopian military has already ended many wars before and will sure continue to do so in the future.

The Dystopian military consists of the following branches and subbranches:
-Army. Speaks for itself. The army also has its own air force, operating from rapidly put up airfields.
---Paratroops. A sub-branch of the army. These can
-Navy. Also self-explanatory.
---Marines. A sub-branch of the navy. Basically this concludes all the shock troops located on the Navy's LPD's and troop ships. The marines can operate anywhere around the globe in a matter of days.
---Naval air force. This concludes all airplanes stationed abourd the Dystopian carriers. The air-force is responsible for the entire air defence in an area a
