Okay, and what about them? Are we supposed to be discussing differences between the two? Similarities? Favorite teams?
Perhaps you should slow down on the making new threads, and read/participate in some of the ones already around until you have a better feel for what makes a "good" thread starting post.

The football vs soccer argument is stupid. There were multiple codes of football that were referred to simply as "football" in the 19th century. Rugby became the dominant code of football in the United States and Canada, which evolved into American football and lead to that code being referred to simply as "football." It's like when Australians say "football" they're referring to Aussie rules football and use soccer for the other game. Besides, soccer was a term in use in England as a shortening of "association football" back when it needed to be called something other than simply "football" to distinguish itself from rugby.

Now please, hit me with the overused and unfunny "hand egg" joke.

The fucking cowards that changed NZ Soccer to NZ Football. Have a spine! Don't bow to the weight of cultural imperialism and cultural cringe.

Australia did the same thing, leaving the name Socceroos as an hilarious artefact of a bygone era.

Aussie Rules is nuts.

Like, if you've never seen a game of rugby I guess you could think they're the same but it's a seriously weird sport that plays completely differently. Like, the visual contrast between Aussie Rules and rugby is as stark as that between rugby and soccer.

Technically, football is a family of sports which includes specific sports such as association football (aka soccer in some countries) and rugby...
That being said, locally, people are just going to use the word 'football' as a short form. For example, I doubt Australians systematically refer to their variation as "Australian rules football". Of course, it's different if one or more foreigners are involved because then you might need to make a distinction from the form of football that they play... (Do hit me with a "Captain Obvious" for that last line... :p )
- [OOC] Me: male; Caucasian; atheist (don't believe); agnostic (but don't know if one or more exist); LGBT+ ally...
- NS stats and policies are mostly canon and represent my world views... Some minor hard and soft SF overtones--not that SF is clearly defined anyway...
- Of the various tests available, I chose
RightValues. Result: technocracy.

In the absence of a substantial opening post, this thread has been locked. If you intend to start a discussion on the differences between Association Football and American Football, to say nothing of the various other codes of football past and present, we strongly suggest reviewing this before reposting.
