Religion Index

Postby Etwepe » Fri Mar 01, 2024 12:50 pm

What religions, if any ,are practiced in your nation? are there any religious holidays? If so, what are they? Who can hold religious positions? How many people are religious? Are there any atheists, antitheists, or agnostics in your nation? Please include the full name of your nation and religion(s).

For my nation, the Christian Theocracy of Etwepe, the main religion is Christianity. We celebrate the normal Christian holidays. Most people are religious. Only 0.01% of people are nonreligious/another religion.

In Sarawak Darulhana, Islam is the official religion and is the majority religion where 50% are Muslims (Malays and Melanauans who are Muslims). The second religion of the majority is Christianity where 30% are Christians(most Dayaks are Christians) . 20% are Buddhists where the Chinese are synonymous with this religion. FYI, our neighbouring country, the Dayak People's Republic of Sarawak is a Christian-majority country. Originally we were a country and a banner but because of their oppressive policies of Muslims, we separated and formed an Islamic state entity.

Holidays? Yes, we give religious holidays to those who are Muslim, Christian and buddha. We will be on vacation at the beginning of Muharam Year, Ashura Day, Prophet's Maulid Day, Isra Mikraj Day, Nisfu Syaaban Day, Early Ramadan, Eid Fitr, Eid Adha, Arafah Day, Ash Wednesday, Goodfriday, Easter, Passover, Wesak Day, and Christmas. Our policy, a country that applies the Charter of Medina where we give freedom in religion to all people. We are not as good as in the People's Republic of Dayak Sarawak where they forbid Muslims to celebrate an important day in Islam as well as Borneonize Muslims there. We uphold what is written in the Quran and we will use it into our legal system.

Bilancorn is a secular country, and religion is seen as a private matter with no place in the government. The population is divided in the following beliefs:

36,5% Darkonist (is a kind of school of thought rather than a real religion, taking up Buddhism and Confucianism, and it was often referred by historians as a "secular religion")

17,1% Christianity (mainly catholics)

13,2% Islam (Mainly Sunni)

8,1% Judaism

1,0% Buddhism

0,1% Animism / Other

24,0% Agnostic/Atheists

In Razdolna all but two of the fifty three residents practice the priestless variety of Starovery, or the practices of the Russian Old Orthodox prior to the Nikonite reforms and the eventual schism of the church in 1666. The two residents who don't practice Starovery are Roman Catholic and consist of the political head of state and his wife.

Razdolna follows the Julian calendar in which there are 40 annual religious celebrations which are days in which all commerce and work shuts down.

The religious calendar determines how children are named. Each day of the year commemorates the deeds of several saints, and when a baby is christened, a name is chosen from those of the saints whose days are within the time when the child is born. A child’s birthday is then celebrated on the name day, which is more important than the actual birthday. At baptism each child is given a shirt, a belt, and a cross. Though not officially sanctioned holidays, baptisms are generally days which are taken off by the immediate family. There are many other unwritten rules such as a dress code and a ban on "indecent" behavior, which is really anything the church leader or настоятель decides. This decisionmaking extends inside the home too with specific customs unique to the Old Believers such as maintaining an unshaven face, and abstaining from all animal products on Wednesdays and Fridays.

There unfortunately aren't any atheists, agnostics, or those of other religions in the country. This is because of their desire to create an priestless Old Believer only community "away from the world" as many of the residents would say.

That would depend heavily on the province. In Ireland proper Catholicism is the overwhelming majority. North Ireland is a fairly contentious mix of Catholic and Protestant. Jamaica, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Newfoundland are all slightly majority protestant though with sizeable Catholic and to a lesser degree Muslim minorities. The Marshall Islands and Guam are both heavily Catholic with large minorities of those practicing local religions. Comoros, Mayotte, and Socotra are all predominantly Sunni Muslim with Comoros and Mayotte having minuscule Catholic communities.

Christian and Muslim holidays are state holidays and are considered to be "Free Holidays" where it is expected that people be given the day off regardless of a person's faith. In the Marshall Islands and Guam, local holidays are also considered to be "Free Holidays" though aren't practiced in the Commonwealth at large. While the Commonwealth does give these holidays as "Free Holidays" the country itself has no official religion.

Roughly 25-30% of Heradorians Identify as "No Religion" on census forms.

Commonwealth Of Narland
Freedom of religion is a Constitutional tenet guaranteed by the legal system. Freedom from religion (denying, depriving, or diminishing others the right to legitimately express their conscience by lawful means) and expression of irreligion (that is constraining one's conscience or fostering the unconscionable by force or fraud by religious pretense) is not.

Official Religion: Reformed Evangelical Christianity as expressed by the The Orthodox Church of the Pioneer, Presbyterian is the official religion. The Presbyters of the Commonwealth is the establishment of that religion. While not an official branch of government, it is considered the Conscience of the State.

Religious Affiliation (as of 2020)*:
Church of the Pioneer 16% (includes Church of the Pioneer, Orthodox Pioneer Church and Free Church),
Roman Catholic 16%,
Other Evangelical Protestant 15%,
Non-Denominational/Community Churches 15%,
Mainline Protestant 13%,
Indigenous Tribal Beliefs 6%,
Atheist / Agnostic 5%,
Unaffiliated 4%,
Buddhist (includes Shinto and Zen) 4%,
Other Christian Faiths 3%
All else less than 2%**.

*Statistics may not add up to 100% due to rounding.

**The Census Tabulation Office (CTO) revised its questionnaire for the 2020 Census to better identify religious adherence. Theistic Secularists who are not members of specific churches are listed in the unaffiliated category. Atheistic Secularists are counted in the Atheist/Agnostic category. The Buddhist category does not distinguish between Theistic, Agnostic, and Atheistic adherence.

Postby Free Norfolk City » Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:52 am

Free Norfolk City's population is pretty religiously diverse: during pre-colonial times, when the Kingdom of Anmhonm existed, the indigenous pantheon was the majority religion, marked with its pantheistic polytheist theology and notable features including dogs being sacred animals comparable to cows in Hinduism; legend has it that dogs are "Man's best friend" because they are angels who came from Heaven to be a faithful guide and companion. The sage Iknika has been credited with clarifying this doctrine among the believers. The indigenous religion still has a significant following in Free Norfolk City, to the point that it is considered taboo to spay and neuter dogs, though "culturally conscious" efforts have been undertaken to alleviate the burden caused by said taboo. As well, the coyote is the national animal, replacing the Norfolk parakeet in another attempt to be culturally conscious.

Christianity was the first foreign religion to be introduced to the country, after the arrival of Anglo-Saxon refugees fleeing the Norman conquest of England; they were brought before the throne of the King of Anmhonm, who told them that they would be permitted to stay, provided that they refrain from preaching the Gospel and that they assimilate, becoming proper subjects. Controversially, the Anglo-Saxons accepted, and kept to their own settlements, namely Norfolk City, the namesake of the country. Their version of Christianity was, for centuries, frozen in the form it was in in 1066 - that is, they missed on every single development in Catholic Christianity past that year. Calling themselves Old Catholics, they bitterly resisted "new" Catholic attempts to bring them into line with "modern, proper" Catholic doctrine, as well as Protestant ideas. The Old Catholic Church is led by the Archbishop of Norfolk, and Anglish, a form of the English language derived from Old English, is the language used at Mass, although Anmhonmite had been used among crypto-pagans who secretly converted. The Old Catholics held a virtual monopoly of authority and power in the Christian community until the first Protestant missionaries arrived; the Old Catholics complained to the Royal Court, noting that while the local lords were allowing these missionaries to preach, Old Catholics were still forbidden from doing so. Thus, it was decreed that said ban would be repealed, leading to vigorous debates between Old Catholics and Protestants, leading to a series of incidents including the killing of seventeen year old Bronwyn Munk during the Prayer Book Riot, in which rumors of the Old Catholic Church planning to adopt Protestant doctrines led to an explosion of anger among Old Catholics. However, the Prayer Book Riot took place during Garbanian colonial rule; the Garbanians, who were not Christians, suppressed the riot, and forced both sides to stand down. New Catholic missionaries would arrive later, causing another incident when the Old Catholic Church petitioned the colonial government to restrict New Catholic efforts to convert its members; this petition was rejected, leading to the establishment of Roman Catholicism in the country. However, despite both Protestant and 'New' Catholic missionaries achieving modest success in attracting converts, the Old Catholics are still the majority.

The Garbanian colonialists were ardent believers of Manichaeism, which is the majority religion of Garbania alongside its own traditional pantheon, which considers cats to be sacred rather than dogs. Panentheistic in scope, the traditional Garbanian pantheon revolves around the principle that there are multiple gods, but they comprise a singular whole, along with the rest of the universe. Much like Buddhism and Shinto in real life Japan, both Manichaeism and the TGP co-exist rather harmoniously, with believers of one patronizing the temples and shrines of the other. While the TGP has always been, like the Anmhonmite, an ethnic religion, Manichaeism was open to all, and as such, many Manichaean temples and shrines were built in Anmhonm during colonial rule. The leader of Manichaeism in Garbania is the Yamag, the namesake of the Yamagate, which functions much like the Catholic Papacy; the Yamags mandated the spread of the religion far and wide, and as such, many converts were made throughout the realm. However, in Anmhonm, and later Free Norfolk City, Manichaeism was usually seen as "the religion of the colonialists," and as such, the once popular religion saw its numbers drop significantly after Norfolkite independence, with many (but not all) Garbanians fleeing for Garbania proper, or other colonies. Despite the demographic shift, Manichaeism is still practiced in Free Norfolk City.

The Norfolkite politician and reformer Théophile Toussaint, overseeing the Norfolkization of the country after independence, has been traditionally credited for having proposed Deism being made the state religion in an attempt to ensure no one religious group would feel slighted or that any other was being favorited; this took shape in the form of the Theophilanthropists ("Friends of God and Man"), a Deistic sect that, OOCly, was inspired by groups such as the Religion of Humanity, a secular religion created by Auguste Comte (as well as its Anglo-American offshoot, the Church of Humanity), Felix Adler's Ethical Culture, which Albert Einstein was a big proponent of, the Din-i Ilahi propounded by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1582, Anatoly Lunacharsky and V. Veresaev's ideas, France's Cult of Reason, Unitarian Universalism and, of course, the real life Theophilanthropists from whom the Norfolkite version got its name; ICly, however, it was created by a distinguished group of intellectuals who hoped to ensure peace and stability. The sect derives its name from a real life, French sect but ICly has no connection to it; rather, it was chosen simply due to the rule of cool. The sect's members pledged to commit themselves, for life, to duties including the detestation of bad faith and tyranny, by punishing tyrants and traitors, by caring for the unfortunate, respecting the weak, defending the oppressed, doing unto others all the good one can, and not being unjust towards anyone, but membership reputedly was at five at its lowest and twenty three at its max. The sect seemingly disappeared from the historical record after the first president, Valdémard Lanthier, officially declared Deism the state religion, enshrining it as such within the Constitution.

Despite the departure of the loyalists post-independence - that is, those Garbanians and other minorities who were loyal to the Garbanian monarchy - there were still sizeable populations present in the newly minted republic; Ngombians, Rhossenians, Keldara, Urziks, Aldans, Elassians and others all saw their numbers take a significant hit post-independence, but enough stayed behind to allow for their religions to have their own individual categories come census time; however, there are certain religions whose numbers are not as big, and are thus grouped under the category of "miscellaneous religions," which includes Buddhism, Jainism, and Marshism; usually, religions that do not have what the government considers to be "legitimate" numbers (that is, what would afford them their own category on the census) get thrown under this label; Marshism is a perfect example, since there are only Marshite tourists and expats who practice this religion, with no known local converts.

Christianity is the majority religion in Asucki by an overwhelming margin. Nearly 90% of the overall population adheres to the religion in some form or another.

Roman Catholicism is the largest single confession at 32.1%. Catholicism was widely practiced in the western city-states such as Aurinnen as well as other independent nations of the pre-Unification Isles. Coincidentally, these western areas were also heavily involved in commercial trade with Roman Catholic colonial powers such as Terre des Gaules. In the modern day, Catholicism has lost much of its influence in these areas to other Christian confessions as well as Deism. The Roman Catholic faith is, however, deeply tied to the culture of the rural province of Ael, which also has a significant Old Catholic community.

Eastern Orthodoxy is the next largest Christian group at a slightly smaller 31.7%. Much like Catholicism, Orthodoxy was the state religion of several pre-Unification states, including the very powerful KIngdom of Novaera. Most independent states within Novaera's sphere of influence were then and remain devoutly Orthodox to this day. Novaera as a modern-day metropolis retains a strong Orthodox population and the Church is even influential in city and provincial politics. Raun, Ael's neighbor, is equally as devoted to the Orthodox faith as Ael is to Catholicism; this is actually a major reason as to why the autonomous farms and villages that make up the two provinces were consolidated into two separate provinces instead of one larger one.

Protestantism is notably smaller than the two major confessions at 23.5% of the population. Lutheranism is the largest singular Protestant denomination in the form of the Asuckian Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Austrakian Germanic population of the province of New Austrakia is heavily Lutheran, seeing it as an integral part of their cultural identity. Anglicanism is popular in the far eastern provinces of Vinae and Couvair, brought primarily by reformers from culturally Anglo powers such as Beaufort and Greater Orcadia on the western coast of the Tavlryian continent. Evangelicalism is not very popular. Theories for this include the Asuckian people's commitment to ritual, lack of historical desire for major reforms, and negative views brought on by nominally Evangelical terrorist groups in Teremara, such as the "Holy Domain" in Glisandia

The largest non-Christian faith in the Isles is Deism at 4.3% of the overall population. Though never having the institutional power to rival Christianity, the Deistic religion influenced several movements in the history of the Isles. Chartists from Beaufort spread democratic ideas and were either openly Deists or heavily influenced by Deistic beliefs. The Aurinnenite Revolution of the early nineteenth century replaced Aurinnen's Roman Catholic monarchy with a republic. A state-sponsored Cult of Divine Reason was the official religion of the Aurinnenite Republic for several years before it became fully secular.

Beyond these, Asucki also has populations of Muslims, Jews, Zoroastrians, Buddhists, Hindus, Neo-Pagans (especially Neo-Séaiil), and other faiths. Atheism as a whole is quite uncommon, with agnosticism being thoroughly more popular among skeptics.
