Eighth Aeropag Football Invitational

Invitees
The Paripana Sporting Council again invited sixteen teams (eight seeded and eight unseeded) to the Olympic Tower for this Aeropag Football Invitational. TakilQuip Champions’ Cup winner Ciudad Soluca was unable to be reached (though the organizing committee was said to have searched telephone directories from ciudades named Soluca all over the world), marking the second time the world champion has been absent from the competition. Host invitee CF Mont-Pluie hardly provided a compelling replacement, and the three teams entered by associations whose timelines create annoying conflicts between UICA competitions and the AFI were equally uninspiring. However, the likes of Sonoma Center Panthers and Raynor City United created some excitement around the 1000₂th edition of the competition. Kericia, Swartaz, and Unitopolis all made their first appearance in the tournament, while Virçais made its first appearance under that name.

Format
With sixteen teams, the format of the group stage would be four groups of four, with each team playing all of its group opponents once. Globe Cup winner Sonoma Center Panthers was automatically placed in Group B, and CF Aéropag was automatically placed in Group A in lieu of the TakilQuip Champions’ Cup winner in order to prevent a meeting between Paripanan clubs prior to the final round.

The group standings would be determined, in order, by points, head-to-head result, goal difference, goals for, and fair play standings. The winner of each group advanced to the playoff bracket (for 1st–4th place), the runners-up to the consolation bracket (for 5th–8th place), the third-placed teams to the classification bracket (for 9th–12th place), and the fourth-placed teams to the kindoff bracket (for 13th–16th place). In each bracket, the team from Group A was paired with the team from Group D, and the team from Group B with the team from Group C.

The team with the highest league finish of any Sorthern entrant to the tournament managed the worst finish of them all, failing to win a game and finishing last. They and AFC Tranzversa received 4 kg Au for their participation. Much-maligned invitee CF Mont-Pluie did eventually manage a win, in the thirteenth place match over Houghton Kestrels; the latter were awarded 4.5 kg Au and the former 5 kg Au. Each team in the kindoff bracket received a plaque commemorating the club’s participation in the tournament, as well as small goody bags containing an assortment of foods and trinkets with a total cash value of 98.4 g Au.

In a remarkably unremarkable bracket, Burnaby SC received 5.5 kg Au for twelfth place, New Dublin Dragons 6 kg Au for eleventh place, Catherina FC 6.5 kg Au for tenth place, and FKM 7 kg Au for ninth place. Each team in the classification bracket also received a plaque, complemented by larger goody bags with a total cash value of 149.0 g Au.

Kericia City, having lost only to the mighty Panthers in the group stage, suffered an astonishing collapse in the consolation bracket, letting in eight goals for eighth place and eight kilograms of gold. Napoliroma Legion, coming off a heartbreaking penalty shootout against Raynor City, took full advantage in the seventh place match, walking off with 9 kg Au. Raynor City themselves would be heartbroken (relatively speaking) in the fifth place match, paying the penalty (of 1 kg Au) against Billiard but receiving 10 kg Au for their sixth-place result, while Billiard received 11 kg Au. Each team in the consolation bracket was also given a plaque, complemented by larger goody bags with a total cash value of 218.6 g Au.

Tannenberg FC, despite falling victim to two Paripanan opponents in the playoffs, finished in a respectable fourth place and received 12 kg Au. CF Aéropag, after two abject failures in their previous Invitational appearances, managed a better finish than Aeropag Penguins ever did, receiving a lucky 13 kg Au for third place. Sonoma Center Panthers, who at the beginning of the tournament undoubtedly hoped not to face Raynor City United in the final, found their wish corrupted as they faced an even stronger Stithis-Knolees side. The final, guaranteed to make one of the two associations the first to win the tournament twice, was a tense affair that produced only a single goal, which went to the Virçaian visitors. The Panthers received 14 kg Au and Stithis received 15 kg Au. Each team in the playoff bracket received a trophy, varying slightly in size based on the club’s placing, and each player of the top three teams received an appropriately-colored medal. The four teams also received goody bags, with a stated cash value of 490 g Au.

Élite League 2194–95

Élite League One
The top of the table remains unaffected by ongoing restructuring, as Sonoma Center Panthers has won a third straight Élite League title. Sokojito Dosi Gyulhabdwen proved their Champions’ Cup qualification last season was no fluke, while Black Oasis Athletic shockingly suffered relegation despite (or because of) their run to the Globe Cup final.

Academy Football League

The Academy Sporting Association’s remarkable success in the International University Challenge Championship has encouraged many academies to apply to join the association. To accomodate them, the Academy Football League will now be split into conferences. In this first season, there are two conferences of twelve teams, the Founders Conference and the Archipelagic Conference, each containing twelve teams. Each team will play its conference opponents both home and away, and teams from the other conferences once (six games at home and six away). The championship will be determined by a playoff system seeded by a newly-developed formula, the Basic Schedule Comparison. The #1 team, and any team with a BSC rating within 5% of the #1 team, is assured a place in the Championship Trophy playoff (if no team is within 5%, the #1 team is seeded in the Championship Trophy directly and the #2 team and any team within 5% of them play off for the other place). A similar system is used to determine participation in the Copper Trophy, which determines third place; any team eliminated from the Championship Trophy playoff prior to the final is entered in the Copper Trophy playoff. The finalists of the Championship Trophy and the winner of the Copper Trophy qualify for the IUCC.

Globe Cup final stadium:

Without many options available, the directors were in doubt of what to do in order to decide which would be the select stadium. Therefore, they sent all the data to a supercomputer which would make the choice alone. Unfortunately, the computer was in doubt too and broke down due to the pressure. The screen froze while showing the information of one of the stadia, which was then seen as the "chosen one". So, the host of the final will be the Metropolis Dome, Metropolis, in Valladares (capacity 65,000).

Reigning champions Bastion continue their dire season having lost 3 games on the trot, compounded by a humiliating 1-0 away defeat to minnows Pashter United, who have now done the double over Bastion and are sitting mid table. Ulsa now have taken the lead in the league standings, overcoming a 4 point deficit to Directus in the last 3 games following the D's dissapointing draws at New Eynon and Sparta. Previously lowly Horncorn are still flying high in third while Asmer and Sparta continue a steady campaign. Farrelton are the other team in crisis in the Gold League - the money rich side have had their manager sacked and sit second bottom despite having an 82.1 rated squad, of at least top 5 quality. An astonishing run of futility abruptly ended at Anaphase Alchemy Stadium as Sonoma Center Panthers emphatically defeated Ranca Toco on their way to their first TakilQuip Champions’ Cup final, just one season after claiming the Globe Cup title. The Panthers had reached the semifinal stage seven times in fifteen seasons (5, 7, 8, 10, 15, 18, and 19) without success, including a prior meeting with Ranca Toco and two with Petardos S/A; their last appearance until now had been a roller-coaster 7–7 aggregate draw with Albrecht Turkish which sent the Candelariasian side through on away goals after extra time. Cafundelense champion Cafundó do Juta will once again find plenty of support as they take on the Paripanan champion in Dunboor, having been defeated in last season’s final in nearby Estresse Intenso.

All the amateur sides enter in the first two rounds, and that field is whittled down to 28 by the fourth round, where they are drawn with the 36 KFL teams. We'll skip the first few rounds (though we did hear Mud Settlement vs. Walker was a real cracker) and take a look at the fifth & sixth rounds.

As the furthest progressing amateur club, they receive the KFA Spirit Trophy and some extra prize money for their trouble. No surprises elsewhere with Kericia City and Schroeppel rolling and Sandy Creek Town edging neighbors Pulaski in extra time. Schroeppel advance to their first cup final, but a brace from Derrick Crawford gives Kericia City an easy victory. Unsurprisingly, City complete their third consecutive double and add more fixtures to their already crowded schedule. After competing in the AFI, TQCC, and Globe Cup, Kericia City request an invitation to the Cygnus Cup.

  • Sonoma Center Panthers is assured a place as the title-holder. If it fails to qualify for one of Paripana’s seven places, it will replace one of those teams.
  • Élite League: Has seven places. Capitalizt SLANI must enter at least three teams, and Jasĭyun at least two.
  • Liga Calania: Has four places. Krytenia and one other association must enter at least one team.
  • Cyanea Joint League: Has three places, which must be filled by teams from two separate associations.

Globe Cup 25: Every association is allowed to enter three teams. Multiassociational leagues may enter six teams, of which no more than four may be from the same association.
Chronowire Series B Champions’ Cup 25: Every association is allowed to enter four teams. Multiassociational leagues may enter eight teams, of which no more than six may be from the same association.

Since there’s been a general trend toward people not entering UICA competitions until a deadline is set, the deadline for entry to TakilQuip Champions’ Cup 28 and Chronowire Series B Champions’ Cup 25 is very tentatively set for Sunday, 2011-01-16. The deadline will be confirmed closer to that date.

The Vostrian Football League (Vostria Nogomet Savez) is devided into three leagues, (Premier, First and Second) The Premier League is the top league and all leagues follow the same structure. Each league consists of 20 teams that play each other twice a season (home and away) resulting in teams playing a total of 38 games.

[Albundania]

After a successful return of the AMFL to Albundania, the 2029 season was officially scheduled, including one new team: FC Hollandstile. Quick team by team glance (in order of expected finish)

1: Lemanskigrad United
Acquired Left Midfielder Luke Seal from Albundia City United in exchange for their draft pick, he plugs up the only real gap in the Lemanskigrad squad. Lemanskigrad look to their elite defense and striker Raul Ibanez to sail past the other teams in the league.

2: Illinopolis FC
Spencer Nolan and Josh Richards are two of the most underrated Albundanian strikers, and they're both looking to make a splash this year. With Q Inieta and Zachary Chan directing from midfield, there's no reason to think they won't get all the chances they need, either.

3: Chicago Nuevo SC
Indeed, after finishing dead last in 2028, we think they have a team to beat now. Lisa Jacoby and Evan Lawson are Albundania's two most-watched U-21s, and they are obviously due to play in the next world cup for the Blue Crew. This is supplemented further by national striker Jesus Silva playing up front with Lawson to provide support. They are plauged only by a lack of consistency.

4: Royal Egaigus
Though one would have expected them to be higher on this list, they have made no significant changes since last year, and that may come back to haunt them. They do, however, have Martin Kellogg in between the posts, and that may be enough to keep them floating in the top four.

5: Arskanskigrad United
Not a bad team by any measure, just not as good as the other sides. We suspect not even Kurt Winger and John Mawrz can pull this side into the top four, unfortunately for them.

6: Albundia City United
The defending champions, they have a very outmatched midfield, and they simply will not be able to compete with the midfields that Lemanskigrad United and Illinopolis will throw at them. This would be okay, but they also have a haphazard defense to match. Things will not end well for this club, being saved from the bottom only by...

7: FC Hollandstile
Newcomers to the league, every single member of this team was just drafted out of college. Don't expect a terrible lot out of them. They will be a very competent force in the future though, behind the likes of midfielder Selene Osborne and 15 year old striker Aaron Louis. Expect Louis to be very near the top of the goalscorers list, despite his team's likely performance.

Meddician League Football, 2015 Season (Season 3)

The MLF wrapped up their 3rd season last week. After the King decided to implement a self-imposed UICA ban on the league after a trying scandal involving loan sharks and payroll mismanagement, the league finally has its second TQCC and Globe Cup qualifiers.

The East Division was taken for the third straight year by the Kulami Boars. Finishing second was Kingdom’s Own FCA (King Medici’s endowed club) and perennial powerhouse, Ventili Blue Stars. This has been the same regular season standings for the East Division each of the MLF’s operational years. Soon, the bottom half of the division will have to start purchasing Free Agent’s or Transfers for international footballers.

The West Division was won by the MegOil Petroleum Company’s football club, the MegOil Roughnecks. The new clubs of Tubbering and Queen’s Love finished 2nd and 3rd respectively to round out the Top 6 spots for post-season play. Once again the idea of “parity” in the MLF is laughable. No team has deviated from their placement during the regular season in either division. Most football analysts believe that with the uncovering of the Under-payment Scandal, that the league will see more parity in the coming years.

Unlike most leagues, the MLF’s Top 6 teams (top three from each division) play in a 5 game Round Robin Tournament. The winner of this Round Robin and the second place team, then square off for the one-game MLF Cup.

[Pays de Horreur]

After two, yes two, attempts to establish a fully functioning football league in Pays de Horreur that fell flat on their face the F.A have finally opted to join a joint league in East Rushmore with the lesser known nations of Palacios and Rodallega and Lua Vamoa.

Multi-nation leagues have become common place in Rushmore, for years the CMSC entertained Nethertopian sides NAPPC and Tenderville United, then the ROFL and the South Rushmori Premier Division entered the fray and began pitting teams from different countries against one another. The emergence of yet another shouldn’t come as a surprise, especially with the number of entrants in the Copa de Campeones needing bulking up.

The format for the East Rushmore Premier League, or ERPL for shortsies, will be a 20 team league with both home and away fixtures, so lots of travel and a mammoth carbon footprint left behind, thanks to the silly league and the teams being spread hundreds of miles apart.

Yes. Yes, there are a lot of things that are going to happen. Number one being a reconsideration of the parachute/trampoline coëfficient business. Although...I mean...Blén were good. But not too good. Or too bad. They were pretty decent, yeah.

In fact, we should be commemorating them (and CSD Trecelunas, for that matter) for becoming the anti-Fábricas, the first teams to climb from the third division (of this league, anyway) to the first. So really, if it hadn't been for how well they did when they first (or not first, in Blén's case, to be fair) got in the second division, maybe we wouldn't be having this conversation. Point is, things have changed since we first introduced this system. Only makes sense we should change with them, no?

Yeah, okay, can we talk about the things that actually did happen, first? Excellent.

International competition

Alianza Ciruelas lost to Peynol-Lunas, but Ojedo Cerro overcame an exciting first leg to advance on away goals before athletically sending Athletic Stanza del capo al fine. Deportivo Peralta took down FC Yuppers 3-0 for supper, then tacked on a 1-1 draw as a light dessert. All four of our SBCC teams won in the playoffs, with only 12 de noviembre requiring so much as away goal, while Dover City ousted Deportivo Peralta likewise. Alianza Ciruelas cut it even closer, but eventually conquered Kitsilano on kicks from the penalty mark. Ojedo Cerro lost, and Mapabore Juventud won, in more commonplace style (somewhat more eventfully on the latter's part. Although, not necessarily, I'm sure the other matchup was just as full of events, come to think of it...)

Unión de Ciudagua defeated the eventual advancers from Group H at home (Ciudagua's home, that is), but caught RCSC Northwood at a somber (and porcine-devoid) time for the latter. They were held to a 1-1 draw, and promptly (or vice versa) lost all of their road games to finish last, slip out of the international top ten, and turn their attentions back to the whole domestic dynasty thing.

Oh hi there! ¡Fútbol! Right.

Better fortunes in the SBCC and Globe Cup, with only CD Quemavilla (well, and thirty-nine other group-stage teams, but we're provincialist and all) missing out on the knockout stages. They consoled themselves with the thrill of participating in a nine-goal game. In the knockouts, San Pablo's comeback attempts weren't enough to overcome FK Tesla (hey, solving magnetic flux problems is hard), Arcrés Millos lost in unusual style, and 12 de noviembre didn't. Mort Park left Alianza Ciruelas for dead, though Mapabore Juventud defeated Beningrad before losing to Psychiatrists. Insert punny but inoffensive commentary, should such happen to exist, here.

Primera División

Du du du, du du du du du du...Yeah okay.

Sooo...Unión de Ciudagua were perfect until matchday 6, when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Alianza Ciruelas, once again their nearest rivals. "Near" it wasn't, in the end, as they pulled away to finish 13-5-0, ten points clear of second. So they could afford to ease off at the end, which I guess would explain why they drew 2-2 with Mapabore Juventud on Matchday 17.

Why they drew (1-1) with Trecelunas FC on the last matchday, though, is a bit harder to rationalize. That sensational point (well, two points, really), earned by goals from Garcilaso Montana and Ramiro Asis (who surely could not have been expecting to use his tiebreaking power in this game) lifted Trecelunas FC to the relative safety of ninth, over their rivals (who did win the derby; Castañon Terranova scored the goal).

Other than joining Estudiantes de Íguen, who seem increasingly prone to gazing at their shiny reflections rather than playing decent football, in the inglorious club of "teams Trecelunas FC beat", CA Condadore weren't too egregious and round up the Globe Cup spots with "accumulating 26 points" not being enough to decide fifth outright. Blén CA made up for only drawing twice last season by leading the league in the category, finishing up with three straight 1-1s (before that, on matchday 15, everyone was winning 1-0. Well, or losing 1-0.)

Segunda División

Meanwhile, San Pablo were perfect until matchday 5, when they were held to a 1-1 draw by CD Quemavilla, their nearest rivals. "Near" it wasn't, in the end, as they pulled away to finish 13-5-0, twelve points clear of second, capping it off with a defeat of eighth-place Lobernians. (Long-doomed FC Nacional, for their part, inexplicably managed to almost triple their points total thanks to wins on matchday 5 and 6, plus a pair of draws.) Universidad de Dénprade round up the SBCC spots with "accumulating 26 points" not being enough to decide fifth outright.

Sixth-place ICD Villago and seventh-place Arcrés Millos recorded their only draws of the season on matchdays seven and six respectively; the former's a tepid 1-1 affair with Lobernians, the latter's a freewheeling 3-3 with CD Quemavilla. Offensive rout of the year came to San Pablo on matchday 17, in an 8-3 demolishing of 12 de noviembre. (The same matchday, though different sides, would have produced an even wilder match during a far tenser title race, with Unión winning their division by a much smaller margin, had it not been for a scorination snafu, but we can't have that much excitement every season. Things even out of their own accord in the end.

They drew with, of all teams, Fábricas, who had come second to AC Mineros, 2-2. Then Fábricas won the replay, 2-0, to return to the tabulated divisions for the first time since Clausura 7. Welcome back!

And CD Quemavilla beat Trecelunas FC, 3-0, setting up the first all-Supercentro top flight in league history.
