Conservatism Thread

This is supposed to be the similar thread to the communism thread. Where basically someone asked a general question on the ideology.

Anyway, to start things off the most basic of definitions for Conservatives are that they are people who wish for morality and the retention of traditional values in a society. Conservationism can also be be roped in with ideals of nationalism, ethnocentrism and populism in some cases. Economically, Conservatives are capitalistic, and believe in a free market run by corporations and the competition to gain wealth. Now please keep in mind that "Conservatives" are responsible for horrible actions against others, most often caused by rampant hyper nationalism from the extreme right. Yet, also know that Communists are as well responsible for an equal amount of blood, and that Conservatives are a wide spectrum of ideals from the libertarian to the authoritarian, and from the nationalistic to the neoconservative.

This thread has been created with knowledge about the left leaning views of most of NSG frequenters, so i am interested in knowing everyone opinion yet please be respectful in your discussion.

As for personal opinions to start things off. I am someone who would identify as a member of the Center Right. I believe there is importance in morality and traditional values, as I believe in a sense of nationalism and patriotism to a greater purpose being the community and the state. However, I am against the religious zelots on the right, total bans on abortion, and persecution of LGBTQ people. It is my belief that the Conservative movement is consistently hijacked by extremists who are often the only alternative to an establishment who could not care less about us. To me, the ideal conservative is someone who has a goal for a future that isnt the status quo but can understand and respect tradition and history to do it. My problem with the far left is that communism calls for the quick and permanent overthrow of the current system and culture, and fundamentally restricts freedoms. I believe in a social order that favors those who work hard and encourages those on the bottom to rise to the occasion by keeping the system as fair as possible.

The problem is that conservatives want to keep the progress already made. Many American conservatives are not conservative, but regressive and reactionary. I’m a left wing person, yes, but most of the British conservatives I know find American “conservatives” revolting.
