Postby Risottia » Wed Dec 08, 2010 1:53 am

***read the rules and notes at the end of this post***
***YES, this was the final poll thread, and before that the nominations thread: it's useless to have three different threads, right?***

The winner is Mr. Kim Jong Il (DPRK).

Spurred by this thread; well, it's time for NSG to rise to the challenge.

This is why I'm launching the NSG Peace Prize. Every one of us will be able to nominate a single RL individual, or a single RL organization, which deserves to be honoured for the extraordinary contribution given to the cause of human rights and/or peace. Please explain summarily what the contribution is.
Also inanimated objects are eligible, see rules below.

The following nominees are officially candidated to the First NSG Peace Prize.

Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (USA): 9 nominations
Kim Jong Il (DPRK): 7 nominations
Aung San Suu Kyi (Burma-Myanmar): 5 nominations
Julian Paul Assange (Australia): 5 nominations
Silvio Berlusconi (Italy): 4 nominations
Greg Mortenson (USA): 3 nominations
Roméo Antonius Dallaire (Canada): 3 nominations
the nuclear weapons (inanimate object; multinational): 3 nominations

You can read the motivations here below, in the nominations section.

Now for a little bit of advertisement:
Be sure to check these sorts of copycat threads ,The NSG Literature Prize and The NSG Economy Prize! :D

1 nomination (Pope Joan) Muhammad Yunus (Bangladesh); because "nothing beats spreading wealth around at the basic grassroots level to make the world a more peaceable place." (see the Grameen Bank)

NOTES & RULES

ABOUT THE POLL PHASE:
The poll will last 5 days.
YES you can change your vote in the poll.
NO you can't vote for more than one candidate.
NO you don't have necessarily to vote for the same candidate you nominated.
YES you can campaign for/against candidates ON THIS THREAD. Just let's keep it reasonable, ok?

ABOUT THE NOMINATIONS PHASE:

Every single nomination will have to be supported by at least 5 NSGers to pass to the next stage - poll between the 10 most supported nominations.
EDIT: ...if less than 10 candidates will have reached 5 nominations, I'll try to include in the final poll also those who got 4, or eventually 3, nominations only.

REAL LIFE individuals, REAL LIFE organizations. No NS Nations, groups of NS Nations
PEOPLE must be ALIVE at the moment of the nomination.
INANIMATED OBJECTS accepted also, provided they are single, physical objects still existing at the moment of the nomination. As a guideline - it should be something eligible as UNESCO World Heritage (material or immaterial).
ALWAYS provide a good explanation of the contribute your nominee has given.
ONLY ONE nomination per NSGer, please. THIS INCLUDES SUPPORTING OTHER NOMINATIONS: if you already nominated someone you cannot support someone else's nomination. You can retire a nomination/support you previously made/gave (I'd prefer you didn't though, because the thread would become a mess!)

I've done a mistake once, I won't repeat it: NO NOMINATIONS VIA TG WILL BE ACCEPTED. ONLY POSTS.

I should get it for flying the Flag of Peace for almost six months! The flag of war and revolt hasn't been seen since.... July at least!

But seriously I dunno. There's a lot of people eligible for this prestigious award, I simply can't pick just one.

Laughter is the balm of the world, its healing power acknowledged across cultures. By bringing so much joy and laughter to the world, Signor Berlusconi has done more to heal and bind us together than any other modern democratically-elected politician. Truly, his accomplishment is unprecedented.
