XVII Winter Olympic Games - Rosters/Information Thread

Postby Quebec and Shingoryeo » Tue Mar 14, 2023 9:31 pm

Hello! This is the roster and delegation information thread for the XVII Olympic Winter Games, scheduled to be held in Eiran Mountains, New Gelderland; and Joongyeong, Quebec & Shingoryeo.

The purpose of this thread is to post information about your delegation that might not belong in the RP thread, such as team colours and uniforms, national anthems, traditions, flag bearers, officials, judges and other prominent characters from your nation(s) that are not competing as athletes. If you wish, you may link to your signup post.

Reminder that there will be two Opening Ceremonies - one in Eiran Mountains and another in Joongyeong - so you may name a flagbearer for each ceremony.

Please do not reserve/tag posts or post your signups here.

Also, Please do not post your roster here until your signup is accepted into the competition on updates given by New Gelderland or me.

CURLING

Mostly unproven players who barely even turned out for one of the twelve Olympic facilities in Ko-oren - which normally organise tournaments and leagues for sports that don't already have a larger professional tournament. Curling proved pretty popular with students (new to the) north and has become fiercely competitive to settle matters between majors or faculties.

Men's (5)
Lead: Bodanuk Shasordheninthen
Second: Gabriel Baute
Vice: Cornelis Schemer
Skip: Danylo Gaumond
Alternate: Arnout Zwaluweend

Women's (5)
Lead: Osautari Paugadaruthen
Second: Abiu Aoloc
Vice: Pelaguka Moanidhen
Skip: Meinewij Tranendoorn
Alternate: Auluro Avabial

Mixed Doubles (1 team of 2: 1 man, 1 woman)
Gabriel Baute/Pelaguka Moanidhen

ICE HOCKEY

The men are rolling with young-ish players (and some older ones) active in the professional league in Ko-oren (the Aevarea League). Most of these names will be familiar through our somewhat successful WCOH team. The women have gotten the right to play in the Aevarea league much later but are quickly gaining ground. Some (younger) players are active in the Aevarea league, and the other ones will appear in its draft in the upcoming two-to-three seasons.

Men’s
The stars of the squad should be Bitterabeel (G), De Zwaluw (LW), Loenaren (C). Line one is comprised of Sudaefjollers and Intermareans, line two are mostly from Aerellen. Shock! Aerellen used to be the king of the sport and would have been line one in any year previous to this one. Line three is a mix of both and talents from elsewhere.

Goalies
G Bertrand Bitterabeel (19) - Lamau-Dartha Hunters
G Per Janszoon (26) - Launott Polar Bears
G Wugeld Zudalu (24) - West Coast Blizzards

First Line

RW Woutre Heerekornuit (26) - Straudum Ice
LW Moen de Zwaluw (22) - Launott Polar Bears
C Mathias Loenaren (24) - Lamau-Dartha Hunters

Second Line
RD Aennirin Ehoni (29) - South Aevanna Storm
LD Aedeti Aenec (25) - Noordrug Bi-state
RW Aenime Aivobelin (20) - Aevanna Plains Wanderers
LW Augane Evos (24) - South Aevanna Storm
C Aelocu Aurtinia (26) - Serevne Northerners

Third Line
RD Aebubu Aol (21) - Aevanna Explorers-Mariners
LD Vilokatsu Akinaga (23) - Arboren Vortex
RW Aerine Aorifi (32) - South Aevanna Storm
LW Robert Dartett (22) - Straudum Ice
C Birtle Montrose (20) - Aevanna Scouts

Women’s

Having never appeared in a team like this before, but playing competitive ice hockey in the Aevarea league, there might be some start-up issues. Either way, we're expecting a lot from Shadongudhen and Aehiv as the ones to set the pace and direct the attack from behind. Notable is the full Hazelaar lineup in line two, with three sisters all making it to pro ice hockey!

Goalies
G Aehlo (f) Auhesalin (23)
G Elsbet (f) Amandelaar (25)
G Aedana (f) Aobsa (21)

First Line
RD Ushku Shadongudhen (22)

Pemecutan or in full United Kingdom of Pemecutan, represented by United Pemecutan Olympic Committee (UPOC), will be competing at the XVII Winter Olympic in New Gelderland and Quebec and Shingoryeo . This will be their third participation in the Winter Olympic and the fifth in overall NS Olympics event. The United Pemecutan Olympic Committee confirmed a team of 45 athletes to compete across 3 sport disciplines. It is an increase from the previous Winter event where there was 26 athletes competing. No qualifying stage will be held this edition.

Administration

Despite the XVI edition success, former Chief de Mission Olivia Gunawan rejected the plan for her to lead the delegation for the third time. "It's time to give the chance for others," she stated during an interview. UPOC then appointed Julian Andrianto as the new Chief de Mission for this Winter Olympic edition. Julian is the deputy president of figure skating discipline in PSU (Pemecutan Skating Union, changing from previously FSSAP, Figure and Speed Skating Association of Pemecutan).

Competitors

A staggering 20 athletes increased is seen in this edition of Winter Olympic. However, new faces are more than that figure. In figure skating alone there are 7 new athletes competing. And of course all 8 athletes in short track speed skating are all new. The discipline is added this edition. And a surprising 12 new athletes are seen in speed skating. This edition also seen the absent of athlete from Soracana Islands following the unresolved citizenship and naming issue. Less athletes are coming from outside mainland Pemecutan. Speed skating for the first time become the largest delegation of Pemecutan with a total of 20 athletes. It is followed by figure skating with 18 athletes.

Short Track Speed Skating
PSU decided to enter some of their athletes in short track speed skating despite the discipline is lack of proper athlete. The sports is introduce in the last 5 years following the hype of Winter Olympics in the country. But until now, there is still less people interested in it. The organizing body hopes that with the addition of the sport in Pemecutan delegation would increase the recognition and exposure of the sports itself which can be a positive drive for the sport in the future. A total of 8 athletes are called to compete in this edition Winter Olympics. 4 for each men and women.

PSU make a lot of change to speed skating following the surprising gold medal win. The sports has become more and more popular. Although it is still under the shadow of figure skating. A total of 20 athletes are selected and 12 of them are new faces. PSU made a strict rule that the athlete may only compete in 2 events, not counting team pursuit. The new rule is set as a precaution for the possibility of athletes fatigue during the event.

Full Nation Name: Monarchia Diarcesium (The Monarchy Diarcesian)
Trigram: DCS
Demonym: Diarcesian
Team Nickname: The Phylakes
Chrysolyncophori (Flagbearers):
- Bolanle Jó (Women’s 15 km Individual) in Eiran Mountains
- Srekislas Jez (Men's Ice Hockey - Line Two Left Wing) in Joongyeong
Anthem: Diarcesians Here, Now, and Forever (lyricless)
Monarch: Phlegomy
Archon of Sports (de facto): Adrast, King of Chiyginia and Heptarch Diarcesian
Head of the Olympic Committee: Henry Gorch
Head of Mission: Meonias Janus Constant
Chef of Mission (Executive Cook): Stamira Chaudhri
Debut Appearance: Summer XIII Olympiad

Before a match, Diarcesian athletes trying to gain fate's favor move their arms to a downward slanting position towards their right. They would then raise their right hand to meet their left. Afterwards, the left arm is raised, slanting upwards, to their left. Sharing its history with the Diarcesian salute, its origins can be traced to a traditional religion in the southwest portion of mainland Diarcesia. Those who venerated the so-called Dragon Reborn offered a very tough and inflexible stone, of similar appearance to reptilian scales, at a personal shrine under a waning moon.

Things to know about Liventia (LEN):
Liventia has two official languages, French and English. Its official name in French is République liventienne (Liventian Republic), although the inaccurate "Liventie" is in common colloquial usage.

Liventia has two national anthems, both in English — if a Liventian athlete or team wins gold, Liventia, Land of Hope is played.

The majority of medallists from the last Winter Games are returning, with a few changes in the team/relay events. However, the rate of turnover has been high, resulting in a majority of the team making their Olympic debuts.

Opening Ceremony flagbearers (New Gelderland): Georgia Morse (biathlon), Pierre Jourdain (cross-country skiing)
Opening Ceremony flagbearers (Quebec and Shingoryeo): Julia Benson (short track speed skating), Brendan Asquith (Nordic combined)

Different curling teams have won the Liventian trials, so Liventia will be represented this time by by Teams Shawcross and Beaufort.

Aboveland and Nykipiflugpuu Olympic Team | Overview

Image

Third Winter Olympics Participation

Aboveland and Nykipiflugpuu are two arctic states in the far north of Atlantian Oceania, the former the larger of the two, and the latter an isolated archipelago hundreds of kilometers from the coast of Aboveland. Since the appointment of Administrator Kyrmy Kyrmynen at the head of the Nykipish government, and Kaisla Saari as president of Aboveland for a third time, relations have improved within the union comprised between both nations, the Abovian Union. In light of the successes of the Union's delegation in the previous Winter Olympics, an agreement was reached, organized by the Abovian Olympic Committee, to enter the delegation of the Abovian Union under the "Aboveland and Nykipiflugpuu" name, as in the 16th Winter Olympics in Liventia. Now, the team will be represented by the Samisyyttanflagg of the Abovian Union and the ABL trigram often attributed to Aboveland, and the Samisyyttansång national anthem of the Abovian Union WILL be played in the event an athlete or a team of the delegation wins a gold medal.

Trigramme: ABL
National anthem: Samisyyttansång
Media: Ælunder Nyttispalvelu (radio & television)
Uniform colors: Navy blue, light green, white, and red. The top navy and green half of the athletes' uniforms is separated from the red bottom half by a horizontal white line.
Flag bearers: Tore and Aarne Svendsen (Speedskating gold medalists; first sibling medalist pair)

Abovian Olympic Committee Chairman: Arne Kuadonvaara
Abovian Olympic Committee Spokesperson: Saara Kivimäki

The archetypal Abovian...
...is calm, unobtrusive, and respectful, and has a steely, dedicated determination to achieving their goals. Though at first glance they tend to seem reserved or introverted, as soon as they have established confidence they turn friendly, talkative and less pragmatic and analytical than their appearances might suggest. Though almost all Abovians are fluent in English, the thickness of their accents and correctness of their grammar may vary, especially according to their background: Abovians from the predominantly Finnic west may have more unique and thicker accents compared to those from the Nordic east and south. Abovians hate losing, especially after exerting themselves and making considerable efforts, and they are regarded in some circles as mentally fragile.

The normal Nykipik...
...looks quiet from the outside, tending to appear cold, distant and apprehensive, and usually reserves their interaction for their fellow Nykipiks. Sparse contact with the rest of Atlantian Oceania (and, by extension, the rest of the universe) might make them seem odd, peculiar, and often rude to foreigners, though it's simply a product of their inexperience in dealing with the outside world and meshing their cultural norms with others'. They do not reject people who may approach them to speak, but will almost never initiate a conversation with a stranger; much less a foreigner. Unlike Abovians, most Nykipiks speak only their native language, and might manage to make themselves understood with Abovians and other similar Nordic language-speaking people. Their English is usually broken, rudimentary and heavily accented.

Though most of the athletes representing Aboveland and Nykipiflugpuu are from the larger continental state of Aboveland, some athletes are from the Nykipish archipelago, or are Abovians of Nykipish descent:

Jaan-Viktor Mõlder-Murkku, two-man bobsleigh
Nyypi Kurku, two-man bobsleigh
Raigo Kykkykyk, curling
Emi Kaltakari, women's short track
Kuldar Kaltakari, men's short track
Laila Kask, women's speed skating
Feliks Mensen-Keskula, men's figure skating
Jaakoppi Kärkkäinen, alpine skiing
Kylliki Brynildsen, women's alpine combined
Miska Kekkonen, men's super-G
Makknys Kirispykk, men's 59km freestyle (cross-country skiing)
Karmen Petulak, women's 10km classical (cross-country skiing)
Krista Kallistyy, women's 4x5 km relay (cross-country skiing)
Katja Kormoran, women's slopestyle
Erno-Eerik Oiva-Leskinen, men's moguls
Katrina Kallistyy, women's moguls
Kyrmy Ekstrøm, men's individual large hill
Neemo Baardsen, men's individual normal hill
Kamila Kruuda, women's team large hill
