[DRAFT] Repeal “Comfortable Pillows For All Protocol”

Postby Saint Arsenio » Fri Mar 17, 2023 4:25 pm

The World Assembly,

WELCOMES the intentions of GA#600 to protect the sleep, and thereby, health, of all citizens of member states;

BELIEVING that the overall creativity of the resolution should be applauded;

CONCERNED, however, with the mandates of subsections (1) and (2) of Section 2 that member states interfere in the free market practices of their economies;

ACKNOWLEDGING the resolution's failure to specify the most efficient means of carrying out the direction found in Section 3, thus leaving open the possibility of inadequate informational efforts by member states;

EXPECTING an improved resolution to soon be authored,

Hereby repeals "Comfortable Pillows For All Protocol"

"While we support repeal in principle, we find that this repeal needs further refinement for us to be able to support it. In particular, we disagree with the argument in the third clause -- it is beneficial, rather than problematic, that member nations be obligated to restrict the free market, which results in nothing but capitalistic exploitation."

"The more significant issue with 600 is that it wastes member nation funds for a frivolous goal, requiring member nations to somehow make pillows widely accessible, a process which reduces funds member nations have available for more important projects, such as just about anything governments spend money on."

"We thank you for your input, Ambassador! While we understand your concerns, Saint Arsenio believes in the importance of national sovereignty, especially in economics. We've seen past attempts made by the General Assembly at forcing itself into the affairs of member states, and we see no difference with GAR#600. The free market should remain a free market, within reason. Simply put, in the case of GAR#600, higher-quality pillows result in higher prices, which not everyone will be able to afford.

With that said, we do disagree with this goal being 'frivolous', as the issue at hand deals with the overall health of citizens of member states, which is an important cause to us and, rightfully so, one of the main targets of the General Assembly. Either way, the repeal has been deemed illegal for reasons we're still trying to understand, and most likely would not have received enough support to see a vote.

Again, we sincerely thank you for your input. We'll be sure to keep it in mind as we draft a second version."

You know... #600 may have been the best bait ever thrown out there.
Sarcasm dispensed moderately.

OOC: Make the repeal an acrostic for "WAKE UP" and I'll support.
