Just a question, 1959? Was it a special election?

I'm just doing a piece of legislation that I did in the previous RP.

Still, it's a little crazy.

Does fixing the "California" count as cheat editing?

How is Sparks able to see something like that again?

A few issues I would like to see corrected:

- I would prefer if she was a Representative instead of a Senator. If you make her a Representative, you can keep her about the same age (maybe two or three years older).

- If you decide to make her Senator, you would have to maker her much older and give her more political experience. She is too young to be Senator - this is why I recommend she become a Representative instead.

- I would like for you to add one more weakness. A weakness that is politically harmful (not something that affects her personality). For example stating that her outspoken progressive views have made her a polarizing and hated figure by many on the right.

Once those issues are fixed, I will be accepting your app. :)

Biography: Born out of wedlock to an abusive father who cared more about alcohol than his children, Henrick Van-Dutch Louemes (1873-1906) and one of his many prostitutes, the elder Van-Dutch was almost convinced to throw the young baby from a window, until being apprehended by a passer-by in the hallway. This stranger then struggled with Henrick until the man fell from the same window that Karl-Van was supposed to have died from.

Following an investigation by Dutch police, Karl-Van went to live with foster parents Judwick Hansen (1861-1922) and Angelica Doorman (1860-1945) in the rural dutch countryside until the start of World War I. Wanting to avoid the wave of anti-german sentiment that came with anything sounding like the least bit kaiser-wilhelmee, Louemes formally changed his last name to Loomis in May of 1917. With concern for their adopted family and having connections with folks in Baltimore, Loomis was shipped across the atlantic to live with another set of parents, enrolling in one of the local high schools. Speaking very butchered english, the young man was tormented by bullies throughout his school years, in spite of protesting to the local teachers and principal. By 1918, Loomis decided to attempt to enroll in the local university, being rejected for inadquatecies in passing a very lengthy and confusing test. It was also during this time that Prohibition shaped the man's political views, solidifying his abstinance from alcohol, not wanting to stir up demons that still lurk in the back of Loomis's mind.

In 1920, Loomis was infuriated that incumbent Democrat Woodrow Wilson vetoed the Volstead Act, and so he voted for Warren G. Harding. During this time he struggled to get by, working an assortment of small-time jobs and gigs before being roped into the shiny seeing world of Prohibition Enforcement. Being at least a Dutch member of the small cultural grouping within Baltimore, he was approached by a local officer and offered a job as a Prohibition Agent. He readily accepted, blinded by his vehment abstinance twoards drinking and wanting to enforce laws in a land he saw as "free on the hills". He became one of the most dilligent workers of the Bureau of Prohibition, even to the chagrin of many of his local deputies, who became irritated with his frequent quizing of their wear-abouts and wanting to sniff their breaths to ensure that no-one would be drinking.

These came to a head when, following a successful bust of a massive bootlegging operation in the Catskill Mountains in Virginia, he saw that some of the officers were loading the alcohol onto trucks to "go to safe-keeping". When he tagged along as an escort, he was horrified that the alcohol was then being sold back to the Mafia in a protection racket, and that some of those officers had connections with the Mafia.

Following this in 1927, he resigned in disgust at the lack of morals of his police force, and decided to attempt to form a citizens milita known as "Loomis's Lawmen". This unrecognized posse milita organized themselves in the town of Harvester, Indiana, where he had moved to. Being known as the "driest county in the United States", the community of Harvester was rumored to have a cult-like field surrounding him. Loomis rejected such tabloid slander, but the truth of the matter is that he was incredibly popular among a group of die-hared religous assortments of Babtists, Mormons and Protestant denominations. A strict curfew was set and Loomis formally organized the "Society of the Fellowship of Planters, Christians and Lawmen" with himself as "Grand Poobah" of the Order. However, the non-cult members of Harvester derided them with a nickname that would stick: "The Harvest Moon Church".

Loomis became the boss of Shelby County politics, deeming which members got various county level jobs and always was happy to help new members with their "initation fees", provided they do small-time crimes that were never prosecuted, owing to his control over the local county's police department. In 1938, the incumbent mayor of Harvester vowed to investigate and bring the man to justice over allegations of animal abuse and testimonies from ex members alleging physical abuse and whippings in the temple. Loomis would have none of that, and so ran against him in that year's mayoral election and won, owing to his cult-like following within Harvester. The incumbent mayor ended up "slipping on at least fourty .308 caliber rifle rounds when his car would get stuck in a ditch." His influence over the local law enforcement has meant that this 'incident' was swept under the rug, simply an open and shut case of "natural weather of god", insisting that "it rained bullets in that specific area on that specific car in that specific part of the day."

Following the start of World War II, Loomis forsaw the start of armageddon, and urged his followers to purchase supplies (from stores under his influence in the county) and build bomb shelters. He held feverent and bombastic meetings and gave speeches which whipped his religous followers into a complete, biting, blinding frenzy, vowing to be the "last humans on the planet" with a mission to "repopulate the earth" following an often vauge but biblicaly violent event. The Atomic bombs in the Pacific showed to add weight to his words, and Loomis was at the height of his popularity. By 1945, Harvester reached a population of almost 13,000 people. He's organized the Church into several rankings and 'Postings', with a small but dedicated propoganda arm known as the Cartel of Brotherly Reconciliation (C.R.B).

However, with such Popularity, came it's own sets of issues. Complaints by the locals about the increasing 'eccentric' and more grandious ceremonies led to an investigation by the Beaure of Investigation. Loomis, however, got lucky as he was being investigated by a dear old friend that used to actally like him from his days as a Prohibition Enforcer. Putting on the best facade of purity, he smooched and worked his old amigo, having him tour the facility with it's state of the art drinking fountains and the highest quality asbestos this side of the Mississippi. Convinced by this, his friend went back to the Beaure and formally closed the case, ending any potential federal charges that might have been brought against him for now. However, for local upstarts and agitated townsfolk, there was a far less delicate procedure. Loomis never cared for the Hoffstader Family, that nosy wife of theirs and that damned, yapping dog... they've all be shut up now.. Oh? The Montugars are going to the police the next town over? Well, I'll have them arrested for vagrancy. What? Oh, they went missing? Oh, how terrible, let me form a prayer that we'll find them eventually..

Still, from what he's heard, his old friend within the Bureau was formally arrested for possession of heroin and is currently serving a ten year life sentence. He's blamed "the anti-christ, fascists and flying toasters for this travesty" privately, while not saying anything that would arouse suspicion. Now, going back to his works within, he's loomed over various religious artifacts and parsed through the Books of Mormon and Holy Bible and he's figured out when the skies would turn blood red, when the earth itself would shake up and the Devil himself would come forth from Hell to reap what the sinners hath sowed...

And Loomis would be the one to wield the Scythe...

And yea the lord said, It was Good....

Delegates and Primaries

The threshold to get delegates is 10%.
Outstanding delegates are distributed proportionally to those above the threshold in states using a proportional system.
In states using a winner-takes-all system, all delegates are awarded to the winner.
In states using the winner-take-most system, the winner gets a majority of the delegates, while any left over from below the threshold are proportionally distributed based on already distributed delegates.

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Hopal
Character Name: David 'Shoemaker Dave' Langley
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 65
Character Date of Birth: October 14, 1895
Character Position/Role/Job:
Chair of the Republican House Policy Committee (1959-Present)
U.S. Representative for Nebraska's 2nd District (1943-Present)
Owner of Langley Cobbling (1930-1943)
Assistant Manager of Langley Cobbling (1926-1930)
Sergeant in the US Army (1920-1926)
Corporal in the US Army (1916-1920)
Private First Class in the US Army (1914-1916)
Private in the US Army (1913-1914)

Character Country/State of Birth: Nebraska
Character State of Residence: Nebraska
Character Party Affiliation: Republican
Faceclaim: Everett Dirksen
Main Strengths:
Kind Old Soul - A gentle old man, Dave Langley hasn't got an unkind bone in his body. He always tries to calmly reason with everybody, and is a man who rarely raises his voice, many often find it argue with or hate him. A generous and giving man, he's helped many a freshman representative (and their bills) through the halls of Congress. Always trying to be the unifier of his party, he's looked up to by many younger Republican representatives as a sort of father.
Connected - In his over 17 years in the House of Representatives, Langley has built a lot of connections on Capitol Hill. He knows most people in Congress by name, and makes it a point to get to know every Republican representative. Likes to catch up with his colleagues over a glass of whisky in his office. He's well respected and liked by members of Congress on all spectrums of the aisle.
Popular - Fondly known as "Shoemaker Dave", Langley is very popular within his own constituency. Considered one of their own, Langley has a very large following in his district. He's often seen out in his community at a diner or a farmer's market catching up with his constituents and taking in their concerns to bring to the Hill. His seat is now considered Safe, and he barely worries about campaigning, leaving that to his permanent Campaign Manager, this leaves him with more time to focus on getting things done in Washington.
Main Weaknesses:
The Sick Man - A heaving smoker and drinker, Langley's been left with a number of health problems at age 65. A bout of pneumonia a few years ago left him with chronic laryngitis, leaving him with a raspy voice. He now struggles to give long speeches, and there isn't the energy in his voice that was once there. He was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and is now undergoing treatment in secret.
Where's the Power? - Langley is the newly ordained Chair of the Republican House Policy Committee. But he doesn't have any real power in his new position. The second lowest-ranked member of leadership, his committee, and his position is a purely advisory one. Rarely does the party or senior leadership follow his committee's recommendations. The committee was created as a vehicle for Former Speaker [not-Joseph Martin], and Langley is struggling to define his place leading it.
What's your Ideology? - Langley doesn't seem to have any clear ideology and has been wishy-washy on some issues. He ran his first campaign on reducing the size of the government, calling himself a laissez-faire conservative, but has continuously supported President Jackson's moderate approach to economics, much to the dismay of some in his party. He's also officially neutral on issues of civil rights, while voting for the Civil Rights Act of 1957, since he's become Chairman of the Republican House Policy Committee he's made it a point not to reveal his stance on civil rights.
Biography:
David Michael Langley was born on October 14, 1895 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Todd and Mary Langley. Todd was a cobbler by trade and owned Langley Cobbling, his shoemaking and repairing business set right in downtown Nebraska City. Growing up David spent a lot of time around his father's business, which was quite popular and successful. The business that the family could afford a relatively large house on the outskirts of Nebraska City, where David spent much of his happy childhood with his mother and two younger brothers James and Robert. Todd wanted his sons to learn his trade and one day take over the business so as a result he had them spending a lot of time around his business watching and learning what he did. As the business was popular, David got to meet a lot of people around his father's business, and it would later be said that he developed his skill for politics at his father's business, helping around, mingling, and selling people his father's products and services. These people skills that he picked working around his father's business made him quite popular in school, and in the wider community in general. He played soccer throughout his schooling days, and always got by with good enough marks.

When he graduated High School in 1913, his father wanted him to join his business as cobbler, but David had other ideas. He enlisted in the US Army almost as soon as he graduated from High School and within the year he became engaged to his High School sweetheart Margaret Summers. In fact none of Todd's children would initially go into the business, James would also enlist in the Army, and Robert would go to University to study business. David would excel in the Army, his good people skills and innate athletic ability meant that he made a lot of friends and was widely respected by his peers. He quickly made his way through the ranks, first promoted to Private First Class in 1914, then to Corporal in 1916. In the meantime, he married his fiancée, Margaret in 1915, and they had their first child, a girl, Ginny, the following year. But this peaceful home life would be disrupted in 1917, the year that the United States entered World War I. He would be among the first American soldiers sent to the front, stationed at the Somme. He valiantly fought in the Somme Defensive of 1918, and in the Somme Offensive later that year. In both campaigns he witnessed untold horrors, which would continue to haunt him for years to come; a trauma, which he still struggles to contain.

He returned to Nebraska after the war's end, and his life would continue as it did before the war, albeit with the trauma that he gained during the War. He would have nightmares almost every night for years to come, and often struggled to fall asleep. But he had two more children with wife, both boys, Charlie in 1919, and Mike in 1921. His career in the Army continued too, and he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1920. But this would be the last promotion of his Army career. In 1926, his father suffered a fall and couldn't continue to work as a cobbler, at least for a few months. So David was called back to Nebraska City to work the family business, he was honorably discharged from the US Army and returned to Nebraska City to become the "Assistant Manager" of Langley Cobbling; his father still oversaw operations. David wasn't too talented at cobbling, not as his father was, so he worked with his brother Robert who had become a banker working in Topeka to economize the family business, hire more cobblers, and turn it into a more functional business. They succeeded for a time, and the three of them: David, Todd, and Robert ran the business together successfully for a few years, becoming Nebraska's premier shoemaking company, expanding to Lincoln and Omaha. That was until the Great Depression hit in 1929. People couldn't afford to buy new shoes or even fix their shoes anymore, the business stopped making money and stopped being profitable. The business was forced to close their Lincoln and Omaha locations, and were left with a barely-surviving Nebraska City location, the original business. Todd retired from the business in 1930, deciding that his time was up, not wanting to deal with the fallout of the Great Depression, he died a few years later.

It was at this point that David first became interested in politics, he actually voted for Franklin Roosevelt in the Election of 1932, as he felt that something had to change to address the Great Depression. But he ended up not liking the New Deal, as he felt that it didn't support businesses enough, and gradually over the next few years he would become more of a hardened conservative, feeling as if the Roosevelt Administration was expanding the government too far, and hindering the American people's ability to make an honest living. In 1942, he finally decided to run for office, running for the US House of Representatives, representing his native 2nd District as a Republican. He won the Republican nomination, and was widely seen as a sacrificial lamb in what had been a Democratic district since Roosevelt's election, at a time when Roosevelt was a popular wartime leader. But David built a grassroots campaign, branding himself as "Shoemaker Dave", someone from your community. He knew a lot of people personally in a district that held both Nebraska City and Omaha, both cities where David had gotten to know people from his business. He was out on the streets a lot during that campaign, giving speeches, canvassing, and talking to voters, and he successfully convinced them that the government was too big, and that he was a right person to go Washington and fight for them. He won the race by a comfortable 5 point margin over the Democratic incumbent.

So, David was elected to Congress and went to Washington, wide-eyed and idealistic. His brother Robert would take over Langley Cobbling, which by that point had become quite successful again, about where it was before David and Robert had joined their father in the business. In Congress, David fought as a conservative, fighting against tax increases, scrutinizing government programs put forth by the Democrats, arguing for corporate tax breaks, and against what he called the "overregulation of business in America". But in a Democrat-dominated Congress, David couldn't get much done, and most of his proposals went nowhere. But he did a more important thing in these first few early years, he built connections, he talked to, or tried to talk to every new Republican representative up on the hill, and most of the Democrat ones too. He dined with every lobbyist that he knew of, he accepted every invitation that he got, and he tried to make contact with the more senior representative too. He built a lot of connections in those early years, and that is what would bring him success in his later ones.

David would be re-elected in 1944 and 1946 without much difficulty, maintaining his popular reputation as "Shoemaker Dave". David would continue his fight for the businesses of America and against big-government spending in the famous "Do Nothing" Congress, getting a sweeping plan to eliminate corporation tax for businesses making less than $100,000 and reduce corporation tax overall by 8% through the House of Representatives. David was also a voracious opponent of Harry Truman's Fair Deal and made many impassioned pleas on the House floor. But David would soon face his toughest re-election campaign, as Harry Truman went up and down the country campaigning against the "Do Nothing" Congress, David was one of his primary targets. Truman even visited David's district to campaign against him, and he faced fierce pushback from many within his own constituency. David campaigned hard, listening to voter's concerns and he pledged to work with President Truman if re-elected, and tapped into his local appeal as an every-man. It was a tough battle, and it was a long election night for David, and he didn't even know the full results for certain later that week. But surely enough, he was narrowly re-elected by a margin of 1.5 points, a humbling result for him.

True to his word, David worked with President Truman in the next Congress, helping pass the Agricultural Act of 1949, the Celler–Kefauver Act, and even supporting some elements of the Fair Labor Standards Amendments, though ultimately voting against it, on grounds that he was against the minimum wage. This earned him a reputation as being a sort of reasonable lawmaker and some friends from across the aisle. David would be comfortably re-elected in 1950, and would never face a competitive re-election campaign after that. David continued to work with President Truman in the next Congress, helping to pass the Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act and the Federal Coal Mine Safety Act of 1952. He became an early supporter of Jonathan Jackson in his run for President in 1952, and worked closely with him after his election as President. He became a strong proponent of the President's Interstate Highway Plan, campaigned for his National Defense Education Act, endorsed his economic plans, playing a large role in passing his budgets every year, and was a strong supporter of American involvement in Free France. He has stated that he is officially on matters of Civil Rights but voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1957. In 1958, David suffered from a bout of pneumonia that left him with chronic laryngitis, hindering his ability to speak, and leaving him with a rather raspy voice. After Former Speaker [not-Joseph Martin] stepped down from his role as Chairman of the Republican House Policy Committee after the 1958 election, David, widely respected by the Republican caucus was unanimously elected to the role, though he is struggling to find his role as its chairman. After Christmas 1959, David found out that he has Stage 2 Lung Cancer, and is currently undergoing radiotherapy for the condition.

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Turkducken
Character Name: George Elias Browder aka Georgie, "Big Browder", "Say it Louder with Browder"
Character Gender: M
Character Age: 59
Character Date of Birth: May 4th, 1902
Character Position/Role/Job:

Class I Senator from Tennessee (1949-)
Representative of Tennessee's 3rd District (1939-1948)
Partnered Attorney at Hamlin-Sharp-Browder (1928-1938)

Character Country/State of Birth: Goodman, Missouri
Character State of Residence: Tennessee
Character Party Affiliation: Southern Democrat (Liberal)
Faceclaim: John Goodman
Main Strengths:

Big Browder vs Little Italy: While the final report of the Senate Special Committee to Investigate Crime in Interstate Commerce, found that there was no Sicilian-Italian direct link to organized crime in America. Public perception credits Browder as one of the national leaders on fighting Organized Crime. This also garners some appreciation from the slowly assimilating Italian-American community. Which can prove to be a small, but crucial swing demographic.

The Browder Commission: George Browder became a national figure almost overnight as the Chairman of the Senate Special Committee to Investigate Crime in Interstate Commerce. In a bit of fortuitous timing, the Special Committee happened to be one of the first government programs reported live on the new medium of television. Millions of Americans tuned in and saw the booming giant of Congress preside over the hearings. They witnessed 'Big Browder' cross examine mafiosos, corrupt policemen, and politicians from both sides of the aisle. This has accrued him a significant amount of name recognition, even if its been a decade.

Only in America: Browder's story plays as 'uniquely American'. Rising from abject poverty and illiteracy to one of the highest levels of government is one of the things America likes about America.

Main Weaknesses:

Rejected Southern Manifesto: Browder is one of only four Southern Democratic Senators to not sign the infamous 'Southern Manifesto'. This puts him in line with the Democratic Party at large, but costs otherwise critical support in the 'Solid South'.

Empty Foreign Policy: Browder is a Domestic Policy Senator. He generally follows the Democratic line in foreign policy, but has no experience and states no strong opinions outside of the norm. It is difficult to say what he believes about the African War, what direction it should take, or if it should end. More than likely he will be heavily influenced by the polls and the people around him.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy: While still a sitting Senator, Browder has launched two unsuccessful campaigns for the Democratic Nomination. While in 52 he had a strong showing, he ultimately lost. The humiliating defeat in 56 has cast serious doubts on his ability to capture the electorate.

Bitter Hatred of Sparks: If there is one thing that instantly raises the ire of this gentle giant, it is Senator William DuPont Sparks. Losing the nomination in 52 was bad enough, but losing the no. 2 spot to him? That was unacceptable. Browder finds Sparks to be totally reprehensible, and a massive obstacle in his hopeful plans of a "New South".

Broken Omerta: While there were other members of the Senate Special Committee to Investigate Crime in Interstate Commerce. Browder was chairman, and used the spotlight on national television to boost his profile. Airing the various dirty laundry of organized crime has a humiliation. Building a political career off of it is unacceptable. Who's to say what will happen, but La Castra Nosa is not something to be trifled with...

Biography: Born into absolute wretched poverty in the three corners of Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. Life was misery and pain for the young George. His father was the disinherited alcoholic son of a Missouri state senator and his mother was a young woman of alleged Osage Native American heritage. They lived in a one room shack on a field of tilled dust his father called a farm. Formative memories George remembers are ones of starvation, nakedness, and abuse. As his father would disappear for weeks on end. Presumably he spent his time gambling or drinking and whatever time spent sober was illegally crossing into Oklahoma for the sake of wild cat drilling for sweet crude that had been discovered on the Osage Reservation.

It is a small miracle George survived the neglect and abuse that killed his mother, it was another small miracle when his father disappeared after a tornado tore through the lower valley. It was kindness in his relatives to take in a young child, malnourished and illiterate, as one of their own. His Father’s distant cousin adopted the young George, and he was moved to Tennessee. George experienced kindness and the warmth of a home for the first time, and quickly learned to love and appreciate his new family. For the first time he had his own room, clean clothes, and a full stomach. And the young boy quickly grew into large teenager.

Unmistakably tall and wider than most men, George found himself the giant of his peers. Desiring love and attention, he quickly learned to use humor and graciousness to defuse tensions and used his relatively giant physique to make a stand against would be bullies. He did his best to make up for his lack of early childhood education, not wanting to disappoint his adopted family who had given him so much. He struggled greatly, and did not perform well for most of his classes. His Uncle, finding he needed a change in education and personal attention, moved him into his own law firm. The teenage George was pressed into service as a young clerk, and rapidly improved his reading and writing.

While in High School he played wide receiver, and was offered a scholarship, but declined. He threw himself into the law as a career, and graduated from the university of Tennessee in 1925. He taught Grammar and coached for his own high school football team for a year, before being taken by another small miracle and being accepted into Yale. He graduated with a bachelors of law in 1928 and passed the Tennessee State Bar shortly after.

The now young professional, George was content to practice law and sail on to easy street for the rest of his life. This was until his first case as a newly minted officer of the court. It was supposed to be simple, young black man, shoplifting, doing a favor for a judge and volunteering as public defender. He met his client, and was unshakably convinced that this young man had done nothing wrong. He fought for every extension. For witnesses to be examined and reexamined, He must’ve broken his working relationship with both judge and prosecutor for giving them such a hellish time. Then he failed, his client was given 3-7 for repeat offenses, and that was that.

However, something about that fight lit a fire in his stomach, and George found a passion in Defense. However again, he quickly learned that public defenders always receive the short end of the stick. Resolving himself to be an ace prosecutor and to make time whenever possible to volunteer as public defense. He plugged away at this new found goal in life for eight years. His uncle offered him a partnership at his firm and he accepted, it becoming Hamlin-Sharp-Browder, and he dedicated more of his free time with public defense.

Ten years of law led him to defend the Nashville Tribunal in an ultimately doomed libel case against then Democratic Party Boss E. H. Crump. This sparked an interest in politics and he ran for House of Representatives in 38. He lost, badly, but his dedicated campaign and prominence in state law caught the attention of the Democratic Governor of Tennessee, who appointed him for two months as Finance and Taxation Commissioner. In 1939 the Representative of Tennessee’s 3rd district unexpectedly died and George threw his name in once more. With the governor’s soft support, he won.

Coming into Congress in the height of the Roosevelt administration, Representative Browder broke with other southern Democrats and became a vocal supporter of the New Deal. He rabidly supported and defended the Tennessee Valley Authority, and gained an early reputation as an eager trust buster. He served four terms in the house before announcing his intent to run for Senator against Democratic incumbent Tom Stewart, the selected incumbent of Tennessee Party Boss Crump. The expected primary was a challenging uphill battle, but Browder bolstered by local name recognition and allies in the form of local and state media, formed a cohesive Anti-Crump movement in Tennessee. A front page headline in the Nashville Tribunal declared 'Big Browder Says it Louder!' followed by a scathing critique of the corruption of statewide democratic politics. This would become a defining image for Browder's political career, and he would defeat both his opponent and the party machine.

'Big Browder' would become the label on which national media would assign all the successes of the United States Senate Special Committee to Investigate Crime in Interstate Commerce. Despite being a freshman Senator, Browder would become the first chairman of the Committee. The committee's subject matter, coincidental occurrence next to the rise of TV, and several high profile national figures that were called to testify turned the important affair into a media blitz. 'Big Browder vs Little Italy' became a sort of first national prime-time event in American TV history. Although the Committee itself did not prove any correlation between Sicilian Organized Crime and Italian-American Organized Crime, it did prove to be the end of several highly corrupt public officials careers. Browder's own decision to not make any favorable delays or decisions made leaders inside of the Democratic Party concerned that he was a political showboater and not a team player.

The 1952 Democratic Presidential Nomination started with huge upset wins for the underdog George Browder. Winning New Hampshire as a Southerner was a huge upset, and hundreds of more delegates joined the Browder campaign as they won the select few states that were part of the process. Ultimately it would prove useless as the Convention was decided by Democratic Party Bosses, Adlai Stevenson III was the nominee and to rub salt on wounds staunch segregationist William DuPoint Sparks was invited to join the Illinois Senator as the VP. Browder himself was furious, angry that he could lose from such an undemocratic process and then worse when the Democrats suffered a humiliating overwhelming defeat in the general. He tried his luck again in 56, but could not recapture the magic. Fortunately, the Democratic Party was moving to a more progressive end on Civil Rights and he was selected to shore up the Southern end of the ticket on the VP. They lost again, not nearly as badly with the gaffe prone Sparks, but still a humiliating defeat.

After this Browder resigned himself from dreams of National Ambition. Instead focusing on reelection and serving his constituents. This so far has proven to be effective, as he's both repaired relations with party insiders and managed to hold on what could have been a serious challenge to his seat after his refusal to join most other Southern Democrats in signing the infamous 'Southern Manifesto'. At the moment he's quietly steering his course to another good reelection, testing the waters for another potential run in 64.

But as the Democratic Field in 1960 keeps growing wilder and out of control it seems there may be a need for him to done his old bombastic self...
Other Info: Married to Zelda Constance Foster-Browder, former Hollywood actor, three children in Elias(30), Preston(28), and Beth(25). Official height 6'4 and exceeding 300 lbs. Enjoys caramel.

I think at this point, Long will begin reinforcing his base, trying to make inroads with unions and the left, when Browden enters. Drop the centre, and much of the centre left, pull out of the south, try and deadlock the convention, and go full on attack mode on the other candidates. Considering the fact he called Natalie and Sparks fascists, and Klansmen (though for Sparks it might be true), not too much lower he can go.

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Fukuyamist America
Character Name: Boleslaw "Luka" Lukachevsky
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 61
Character Date of Birth: 3rd of May 1899
Character Position/Role/Job: Chair of the Leipzig Branch of the ADGB (1920 - 1923), General Secretary of the Saxony-Anhalt Branch of the ADGB (1923 - 1929), Deputy of the Reichstag on the Saxony-Anhalt List (1924 - 1933), President of the RFB (1933 - 1936), Prisoner at Dachau (1936 - 1940), Dockworker (1940 - 1945), CPUSA Party Organiser (1941 - 1943), Delegate to the CPUSA Central Committee from New York City (1943-), Chair of the New York CIO Branch (1945 - 1947), President of the CIO (1947-), Honourary President of the CPUSA (1952-)
Character Country/State of Birth: Berlin, Germany
Character State of Residence: New York
Character Party Affiliation: KPD (1918 - 1940), CPUSA (1940 - 1945), Democratic-CPUSA (1945-)
Faceclaim: Jack Jones
Main Strengths and Weaknesses:

The Bastard of Leipzig - he is a fighter, that cannot be denied. He has fought tooth and nail for what he believes in. However, he has also previously taken up the gun in the defence of his ideas, which may make some nervous, and is known for playing a bit dirty at times.

Here We Go! - Lukachvesky is a very charismatic presence on any stage, and inspires great love among the American working class of all colours and genders as a dyed-in-the-wool people's hero. He is, however, by most other segments of America, seen as an aggressive demagogue who has little respect for existing politics, and his mouth has run off more than once in the past.

Union Man Through and Through - he commands great support among the CIO's rank-and-file, and is respected by even many of his adversaries for the lengths he has gone to in order to protect his principles. In exchange, he has been able to get a good deal for many of his workers,

The People's Flag is Deepest Red - From his participation in the anti-Kapp strikes to his new life in New York City, he has had one commonality. He is as commie as it comes, and he's not afraid of that. Obviously that pisses off a lot of people, and limits him to both within the CIO and among the left-wing fringes...or does it?
Biography: Born as the bastard of the daughter of an American diplomat and of a Yiddish Saxon steelworker (hence his nickname as the "Bastard of Leipzig"), while born in Berlin, his family settled in his father's home town of Leipzig, working the steelworks during the First World War, during which time Lukachevsky worked as a union organiser alongside, never having attended formal education, instead spending his days in the steel plant, operating the coke furnaces. This hardened his personality, and made him ready for what had come next.

As Germany had lost the war, tensions had reached a boiling point. Working with many of his comrades, he had taken up arms - though at this point not yet fired a shot - in support of the new November Revolution, he sat on his local Workers' and Soldiers' Committee, representing the steelworkers at the plant. He wrote his opposition out to Luxemburg and Liebknecht's exclusion from the Committees in Germany, and had joined the split-off KPD but had not taken up arms in the Spartacist Rebellion. Instead, he kept the party line, and held firm. He resisted against Kapp and against Hitler, joining the strikes, and in doing so was elected General Secretary of the local branch for his struggle against the forces of authoritarianism. As time went on, he moved up the ranks, becoming elected General Secretary for the state, and claiming a seat for himself in the Reichstag in the 1924 elections as a list candidate for the KPD.

He tended to his duties quite competently within both the Reichstag and the union, speaking against both capitalism and fascism quite often. He also, crucially, fought for Jewish and Polish interests, introducing bills to provide protections to both minority communities. He was reviled, of course, particularly for his status as a prominent Jewish politician in Weimar Germany, being the target of the local Nazi Party as a long-nosed anti-German 'Bastard of Leipzig', a name he took up with pride. As the influence of the Nazis grew, his battles with them grew, and he became known as a staunch anti-Nazi within the party, often engaging in thuggery and various means and tactics to attempt to disrupt the SA in Saxony. In spite of his fighting, however, his country had been lost, for he was able to flee as the Nazis rounded up the Communists, having taken over the underground resistance. He waged a shadow war, and had been a thorn in the Nazis' side, essentially becoming the leader of resistance to the Nazis. But of course, for the rest of Europe, it was nothing but noise, at best, and terrorism, at worst. But eventually, they came to him, locked him up, hit him a few times, and stuck him in Dachau. In Dachau, he wrote his diaries, speaking on his ideology, his life experience, and where he sought to go from there. He faced torture, beatings, and brutality, coming out hardened still. In 1940, he attempted to start a large prison riot, knocking out a few guards and seizing their guns. The riot burned for quite a while, giving him time to escape.

And he escaped to the country of his mother's birth. To America. He went to New York City, got an apartment, and worked the docks. He sought some slight reprieve, a bit of healing, from the torture, but he eventually got caught up in it again, working for the CPUSA, as a part-time organiser, alongside his dockwork. He gave speeches against the Nazis, speaking on his experience in Dachau, and eventually got elected as a member of its city and state committee, along with trade union organising through the CIO with the assistance of the CPUSA, being in task of converting the NYC CIO to the CPUSA. At the end of the war, he had managed to succeed in getting himself elected chair of the union there, dropping his job permanently to serve as its chairman. Through this, he was able to gain, along with his ally who was chair of the state party, control of New York's CPUSA, and had put forward a motion to the Central Committee after the war.

In it, he described his calls for a 'Turn to the Popular Front' and a need to transform the Democratic Party from within, preparing alliance with liberals in order to stop the 'far greater evil of ultra-bourgeois fascism', which had won support from much of the party, establishing himself as a strong figure within the party. The motion had passed, and he soon became the de facto leader of a 'Popular Front' faction within the party, conciliatory to the forces of social democracy and liberalism. During the post-war days, he made strong leadership of himself in the post-war strikes, even going out to the picket line waving a red flag, once famously proclaiming to a company boss in the middle of a rally, "if you can provide the funds to build train tracks to death camps, then you can provide the funds to give your workers a pay rise.", securing quite a few deals and placing himself as a rising star in the union movement, earning leadership of the CIO with assistance from both his CPUSA comrades and crossers-by from the SPA and liberal factions.

He accepted their support, and proved to be an ally to the Democratic Party over the next 12 years, backing progressives of all stripes all the way, and birthing a nascent communist faction in the party as he began to nurse it back to health after the legacy of the Palmer Raids. He formed coalitions with more moderate forces within the party, showing himself as a unifier, and often spoke to the media and to his members about his support for Democratic proposals, such as Truman's universal healthcare bill, while continuing to build the union up as a strong force in American politics, in particular harnessing the increasing political power of African-Americans in the North, forming what he called a 'rainbow coalition' of the working class. He made strong efforts to unionise African-Americans, Hispanics, and other minorities (including ethnic whites) in large cities, earning the CIO a massive base among the large cities of the North, while electing pro-CIO, sometimes even socialist officials on all levels from federal to city. Meanwhile, in the party too he cemented his position, being declares its honourary President due to his long service to the 'communist movement of the world, in America and internationally'. He served as a staunch anti-fascist crusader, being known for organising a fundraiser for the remaining elements of German resistance, while winning on jobs, pay, and conditions for his members, engaging in brutal but effective union raids against the AFL to cement his dominance.

With a full movement behind him, he decided to push it into the mainstream. He ran for President on a staunchly economically left-wing platform, calling for the full repeal of anti-union laws, a civil rights and voting rights act, nationalisation of the staple industries, dividends for workers, and a strongly anti-Nazi foreign policy. He has been campaigning vigorously for the last few months, working to earn the endorsements of various politicians. However, only now will he truly step his effort up, hoping to unite his coalition and bring things to the finish line, pulling off a good showing before the convention to ensure that at least some of his proposals are adopted.

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Yaruqo
Character Name: Andrew Sulaski
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 32
Character Date of Birth: November 11th, 1928
Character Position/Role/Job: United States Representative for Illinois's 5th District
Character Country/State of Birth: Illinois
Character State of Residence: Illinois
Character Party Affiliation: Democratic Party
Faceclaim: Dan Rostenkowski
Main Strengths: Diaspora and Family: A Polish-American from a union family, Sulaski and his family have close ties within Chicago's Polish community, particularly as members of the Polish National Alliance. With Poland under the boot of the Nazi, Sulaski takes a hard approach against Nazi Germany and Nazism, often to praise from his Polish constituents and the wider diaspora, whose support is crucial to the continuation of his political career in a city defined by machine politics.

Student of Intersectionality: With redlining and the construction of expressways cutting through both Polish and historically Black and Puerto Rican communities, Chicago's Polish Downtown is seeing increasing trends of integration. An ardent supporter of the Civil Rights Act passed in 1957, Sulaski has often worked with these communities to build political support and keep tensions down as, unfortunately, not everyone in the Downtown supports integration. While it is a hard line to walk, his position ensures that he has a diverse pool of political support that can shore him up, should a tough campaign come his way.

Political Outsider: Everyone loves an underdog, and Sulaski was as much of an underdog as one could get in Chicago Democratic politics when he ran in 1958. It certainly helps when your influential predecessor drops dead of an unexpected heart attack and opens the field before the machine can pump out a successor. It's shored up his support among his core constituencies, who see him as a walking, breathing picture of the American Dream.

Main Weaknesses: Political Outsider: Okay, not everyone loves an underdog. Especially when you refuse to kiss the ring of the machine and get your hands dirty. For all of the popular support Sulaski has, he has often found himself on the opposite side of various institutions that back the Democratic machine. A target on his back means he has to take great care in all aspects of his life.

"Oh, I'm Just Very Dedicated to My Job...": A bachelor in his thirties is not unheard of, though it certainly could be perceived as queer to a critical eye. Granted, it doesn't help when you actually are queer, as is the case with Sulaski. While America is not Nazi Germany, it certainly is not the most affirming country in the world. It's certainly ended careers before, and there's no reason it couldn’t end Sulaski's, should he not be careful enough with his secret.

Combative: Sulaski's father often taught him the value of fighting the good fight whenever he felt he should, timely advice for a nerdy son who was often bullied in school. And while Sulaski never really managed to win a fight in school, empowered by his office, he often takes a hammer to whatever injustice that has the misfortune of coming into his field of vision. Whether that's the cause of women's equality, civil rights for Black Americans, or even Chicago's Mayor trying to get money for yet another highway to cut through more of Chicago's neighborhoods, Andrew Sulaski will pound the pulpit and make it a fight worth fighting, even if it does prove exhausting to those in his circle, as well as himself to the point of burnout and depression.
Biography: Andrew C. Sulaski was born to first generation Polish-Americans in Chicago on November 11th, 1928, with his father working in the steel mills and his mother staying at home to tend to him and his three siblings. Like many working class Chicagoans, he attended public schools throughout his young life. When America was attacked by the Japanese in 1941, his older brother, Stanley, quit his job with their dad and signed up to join the Marine Corps. It was the last time they would see Stanley alive, and he was confirmed KIA during the island hopping campaign at the Battle for Iwo Jima. Andrew's parents, broken by the loss of their eldest son, practically begged Andrew to pursue a college education, rather than follow Stanley's steps with a military career or a job in the steel mills. After all, they told him, he had two sisters to think about.

Andrew would enroll in the University of Chicago in 1946, where he earned a degree in political science in the spring of 1950. He'd work at a local law firm in Chicago's Polish Downtown while he pursued a degree in law from the University of Chicago, which he attained in 1952. He'd characterize the work he did for the law firm as "unremarkable," but he frequently provided pro bono services to working class Chicagoans of all backgrounds, not just his Polish neighbors, over the course of six years. He handled everything from disputes with landlords to providing criminal defense services to civil rights advocates who often felt targeted by the Chicago Police Department, and with each case he came across, the more sure he felt that America was still managing to fail those who sought its dream. Oddly, he would have a chance to leave his own mark, when in the winter of 1957, the incumbent Congressman passed away from a heart attack.

Andrew Sulaski, with the blessing and encouragement of his family and contacts around the community, threw his hat into the now open Democratic primary for the 5th Congressional District. As an outsider who had been providing pro bono legal services, a son of a union steel mill worker, and someone who often performed community service with the Polish National Alliance, Sulaski checked a lot of boxes for voters who now had the luxury of choice. With the machine caught off guard and unable to recruit a strong candidate in time, Sulaski would unexpectedly clinch victory in the Democratic primary and, as a given, the general election in 1958. Most of his campaign focused on domestic issues, such as ensuring that civil rights legislation would remain safeguarded in the new Congress (and perhaps even solidified as needed) and trying to tackle the specter of redlining in federal infrastructure projects that ran roughshod over Chicago's Polish, Black, and Puerto Rican communities, he approached the matter of the African Campaign rather pragmatically, voicing concern that the campaign to prop up the Free French was a poor use of America's resources and manpower, citing the rising death toll and costs of the war effort, and that perhaps the United States should urge the Free French to enter into a diplomatic and political agreement with its African citizens.

During his term, he has been working with liberal Democrats and Republicans to entrench the Civil Rights Act and take it further, introduced legislation to improve working conditions and labor protections, and he has been positioning himself as a hawk against Nazism and all its proponents, believing that the Nazis are, and will continue to pose, an existential threat to the United States and liberal democracies around the world. Attempts to address redlining have been unsuccessful, mostly due to southern Dixiecrats and Republican opposition to his proposals, but he remains committed to addressing both the de facto and de jure segregation that still persists.

Some of his colleagues have asked him - some with more frequency than others - about when he might settle down with a "respectable woman," and all he can do is smile and say, "I'm too busy with this job, I'm not sure I have the time to be a husband!" The truth of the matter is that Andrew Sulaski has known that he's been a homosexual ever since he was in high school. He's kept it to himself, and has been very careful when he has hooked up with other men - always in a private place, nowhere in DC's immediate vicinity, and never repeating a dalliance with the same man twice. The secrecy and fear of it all, however, is placing a lot of pressure on him during his re-election year, and he can only hope that his secret is safe...

Now for something that a lot of people might like. We'd need governors to come together to decide what form the "Interstate Wealth Taxation Compact" would take, though.

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Catalaonia
Character Name: William Anton
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 62
Character Date of Birth: Born in 1898
Character Position/Role/Job:
- Governor of Texas - Since 1956
- Senator for Texas - 1942 - 1954
- House Representative for Texas - 1932 - 1942
- City Councillor for Houston City Council - 1924 - 1932
Character Country/State of Birth: Texas, USA
Character State of Residence: Austin, Texas
Character Party Affiliation: Southern Democrat
Faceclaim: Strom Thurmond
Main Strengths:

The Texan Populist - After his election as Senator in 1942, Anton has been considered by many Texans, segregationists or not, as a populist and is popular among the working-class of Texas. This could allow him in advantage in any Texan election, or possibly with the wider people of the South.

The Orator - While not exactly well-educated, he has been a public speaker for decades and has driven home the ideology of Dixiecrat conservatism via explosive speeches, regularly using expletives and slang language, in debates and general speeches, in almost a way to speak to the masses.

Man of the People - Born into a working-class family in Texas, Anton is a genuine man of the people, having started work at a young age as a farm-boy at aged 14, and has become the symbol of the White American Working-class, at least to his supporters.

Main Weaknesses:

Dixiecrat Rules! - Not only is he a Dixiecrat, which puts William at a disadvantage with the mainstream Democrat bloc, but he has said on multiple occasions that he has wanted form a break-away party for Southern Democrats, as-well as stating in alot of his speeches as being a "Dixiecrat" rather than a "Democrat" - clearly suggesting he views himself as more of a dixie than that of a Democrat governor.

Loathed by the progressives - With his low-tax, low regulation economic stances, he loathed by progressives on both his problematic racial and social views, considering he is Dixie, and is hated by them. This would mean if he was to go for the Democrat nominee, Anton would struggle to gain any support from the progressive side of the Democrat Party.

Hated by both sides - His outright segregationist views has left him isolated to an extent, disliked or even hated by the mainstream sides of both parties, sighting him a threat to the Union, as-well as potentially having the power to create his own personal party within Texas. This puts him as a disadvantage if he was to go for President, democrat or independent, he would struggle to gain votes outside a core southern vote in the Deep South.

Undereducated - His lack of education and rural upbringing as his political advantages, but also makes him prone to cluelessness, as-well as not having the higher education that many Governor and Senators were able to get. This could be used against him.

Biography:

Born into a rural Northern Texan family who owned a small farm, William James Anton was the only son of Jerry Anton, a long-time supporter of the confederacy and his wife of Emilia Anton. His grandfather, Elliot Anton, had been a confederate soldier during the civil war and managed to survive the war, settling in Northern Texas by the mid-1870's. His family were strong protestants, and heavily influenced his home learning. Although he went through basic education at a local elementary and high-school, most of the learning he would remember would be at the home, massively dominated by strong protestant and Christian values. By age 14, he quit school and began working on a full-time basis on his father's farm, while also attending regular church sessions.

It was William's latter years working on the farm which he became interested in politics, and via his protestant teachings and introduction to Dixiecrat Conservatism, he would leave his farm as aged 18, still in a refusal to the war effort, to Houston to peruse a career in politics. He managed to land a job as a clerk at the Houston City Council, and became a member of the Democratic Party just a year later. It was during his 6-year tenure as a clerk for the city council where he met his future wife, Dona Burch, while she was working as a clerk for the city council as-well, marrying just 18 months later in 1924. By then, he had become fairly well-known within the city council, and in the same year, would become elected as a member for the Houston City Council.

During his time as a councillor, he would more interested in speeches and meet and greets with people within Houston then turn up for debates and sessions, and in just 2 years had become a favourite among the working-class of Houston for his explosive speeches and his populist rhetoric, and soon established alliances with various other politicians. Eventually, by 1930, he had become fairly well-known in Houston, and set his sights as a Representative for the Texan House of Representatives, although failed to gain the nomination for Houston in that year. 2 years later, he managed to be successful and won a Houston Seat in 1932, the same year he had his second child.

His period as House Representative was considered shaky. Although his first few years were moderate in terms of his speeches and race views, his speeches on the "Legacy of the Confederacy" and the "Protection of Southern Culture" made him a popular figure among many in Texas, but also a devise figure, disliked by moderates and progressives of either party, but liked among Dixiecrats and Conservatives. During the later period of his 10-year tenure as a State Representative, he would form an unofficial "Texan Democrat Union" within the Texan House, which was during it's 2 1/2 stain, vote on a conservative and Dixiecrat basis. By 1942, he had the support to go for the single Senate that election cycle.

Backed by conservatives across the South, Anton's shock victory in a tight primary, announced amid unpopularity pressure from the incumbent and managed to become a US Senator for Texas in 1942 in a landslide victory. During the war, he continuously called for further surges against Nazi Germany and became more popular during this period from war-time conservatives. Post-War, he would shift his polices to becoming a now-well known segregationists, as-well as protecting state rights. He supported the 1948 Dixiecrat ticket, although did not publicly shift to them. The rest of the 40's and the early 50's saw him become a much more established Southern States Rights figure, as-well as a promoting of segregation. While his popularity grew in Dixie and Conservative wings, he soon became the scape-goat of the progressives.

In 1954, he would challenge the incumbent Texan Governor, with support from major conservatives in the state, as-well as fairly popular among the White Working-class in Texas, promising low taxes, low regulation and the maintenance of the "Southern Legacy". His hardliner stance on segregation as-well as his populist rhetoric managed to win him the nomination and saw him cake-walk the Governorship. During his first 4 years, he would cut taxes and loosen corporate regulations, empowered the Texan Central Government while draining power away from local councils and city councils, as-well as creating an interventionist style of Governing. He managed to win re-election in 56' and 58' in landslide victories. His latest reforms have focused on protectionist approaches to farming and business investment schemes.

Come to the present day, and William Anton could be considered the most influential and powerful Dixiecrat in America, his staunch segregationist policies and national conservative values making him more and more popular among the Right of America. However, knowing he would useless if he went for the Democrat nomination, Governor Anton has been preparing an independent campaign, in which he hopes to force a vote in the HOR and allow his segregationist and racial views as use of bargaining power.

Other Info: He is currently married to Dona Anton (Aged 58) with 4 children. He is a protestant Christian.
