Then what are you saying? It is considered polite, if not explicitly required, that you give your opinion and back it up with sources and ... stuff.

We can't really know.
Basically the only good thing Stalin did in his whole life was getting his shit together and use his brains and political power to unite the Soviet Union in the fight against Nazi Germany.
Everything else was either meh (in the rare happier cases) or an utter fuckup (see: listening to Lysenko), with lots of instances of downright criminal behaviour.
