And with the GOP outright trying to criminalize these, it’s pretty obvious the “muh free speech” has never been genuine.

It is no different than if this website for example, banned a group for bigotry, then the bigots were somehow able to complain to a higher authority, and the higher ranking people who agree/align with the bigots, were able to force this website to cave into the bigots' demands at the previous in group's expense.
The right wing in general wants to be the ones to brainwash children or to micromanage what they're learning instead of letting their political opponents to continue holding a monopoly on that. A giant part of this by default, is doing a purge of influences/literature they find objectionable to replace it with their own books/materials that they approve of. It is all just a zero sum game of which side will win the culture wars or destiny of the nation/society.

It's not equitable at all

I've read many books with swearing, and I never swear. Not a moral or religious thing, I just don't like doing it personally but am not offended when others swear around me.
And sexual topics? Yeah that turned out great...

That's the excuse for going after books having LGBTQ themes. They are the books that get banned the most in the states. Great for the book banners, terrible for readers

I was very upset to see many of the books I read as a child being banned, especially books that talk about antisemitism and the Holocaust. It's no wonder that so many young people are antisemitic now. Children should be taught about the facts, not what their parents think is the most harmless. The purpose of history is to prevent us from repeating the same mistakes, so it's horrible that we now have people trying to prevent history from being taught. I expect that we will be repeating history again.

When Maus was banned one of the reasons given for why it was banned was the school wanted to teach a less Harmful Holocaust. This means that books aren't just being banned to silence history, they are also being banned to rewrite history.
Funny thing is that Russia gave similar reasons to banning Maus before the school did.

Maus is one of the books I was thinking of, actually. I read it when I was very young.
Everyone should know how incredibly destructive and evil the Holocaust was, otherwise we really do risk repeating it. I already see incredibly terrifying rhetoric from some people, saying that they would prefer Hitler to Biden and things like that. That is exactly why teaching accurate history is so important.

Jewish Underground State wrote:Like many other people I though banning books was a thing of the past, however I was wrong. Recently many schools have taken to banning and challenging books. The most commonly banned books are ones that cover topics like LGBTQ+ Romance, The Holocaust, The History of Racism and really any issue that is seen as controversial. This is because it isn't school staff banning the books but rather parents who believe this issues should not be talked about in schools.
For example a few years ago for my English class, we read a book about the horrors of American Slavery. One of the parents pushed for 47 to be banned and when my school refused the family left the school the next year. This was a private school and private schools don't have as many banned books. This issue effects mainly Public Schools.
While America and other countries banning books isn't odd what is odd is the amount of them being purged. So what's your stance on this issue? Do you support these bannings or do you think they are unjustified?
