Welcome to World Cup 93, hosted by Chromatika and Tumbra!

Welcome to the official World Cup 93 RP thread. Here is where you RP the goings-on of your nation during World Cup qualifying. From typical match reports to politics to character-driven romances, almost everything is fair game here! However, please do not post about any administrative matters here. All OOC chatter should be directed to the World Cup Discussion Thread.

Format
The 180 nations that will take part in qualifying will be drawn into 15 groups. Each nation will face every other nation in the group twice, once at home and once away, for a total of twenty-two matches. At the end of this round-robin qualifying, the winner of each group will proceed directly to the World Cup finals, while the two nations that finished second and third will progress to a two-legged playoff, where nations will be ranked according to their overall performance in the groups. The winners of the fifteen playoff matches will join the fifteen group winners, as well as the two hosts of the World Cup, in the World Cup finals.

The tie-breakers that will be used for the round-robin stage of the tournament are, in decreasing order: Points, Goal difference, Head-to-head points, Head-to-head goal difference, IC coinflip (where an additional match is scorinated, in a neutral venue, utilising only RP bonus, with ties turned off).

For the two-legged playoffs, this system will be utilised to determine playoff winners, minus the section about away goals.

The top two teams in each group will proceed to a single-elimination match, which will be scorinated with draws turned off. The seedings for the initial round of 16 will be as follows, where "1" may be taken to represent the team finishing first and "2" to mean the team finishing second in their respective group:
A1 v D2/E1 v H2

C1 v B2/G1 v F2
D1 v A2/H1 v E2

The winners of each paired second-round match (A1 v D2 and B1 v C2, for example) will go on to face each other in the quarter-finals. Teams will not be required to change countries until the final/third-placed play off.

Welcome to Chromatika

Overview: Chromatika is a nation composing of a group of islands located in the far northeastern corner of Anaia. There is the main island of Chromatik Island itself, Urrhed Island to the southwest, Myana Island to the northwest, and Dorri Island to the northeast.

History: The tale of Chromatik history is one filled with mystery, wonder, tragedy, and determination to make something that is better.

Chromatika one day popped into existence by mysterious forces that have since been identified as a group of extraplanar angels known as The Enlightened Ones. It's still unclear where the populace came from. The Chromatik Party held sway over the land, implementing its seven-color caste system, until the Rainbow Revolution happened, led by the Chromatik National Team in World Cup 75. This resulted in the first Manager of Chromatika - Franscesca Larriet-Cortes - being martyred.

A group of revolutionaries called the Shadow Writers were able to gather elements of the Chromatik Army, Air Force, and Navy to overthrow the Chromatik Party. Alina Krasnikova, one of the leaders of this movement, was the first Premier. Chromatika then ran into another hiccup when the time of the first democratic election came, with the Checkers Party, formed by a lot of the remnants of the Chromatik Party, tried to take control of the election. Aided by one of the Enlightened Ones, the Rainbow Party was able to, with help with their Atlantian Oceanian neighbors, stop the forces behind the Checkers Party and ensure a safe election.

In recent years, the Rainbow Party splintered into the Rainbow Party and the New Light Party. After a very close election, Hélène Embroise of the New Light Party was elected the Third Premier of Chromatika.

Cultural Notes: While visiting Chromatika, please observe the following:

Transportation: Chromatik highways aren't very wide - two lanes per side at most. There is a very expansive railroad system that was originally used for troop movement, but is has been refitted to serve the everyday citizen. A subway system and a bus system in the bigger cities have also been established. Franscesca Larriet-Cortes International Airport is also not very big, only serving regional flights. For the tournament, the nation will be accepting team planes to land, but it'd be best if you flew to Quebec City, Cathair, Jhanna, Ramusok, or Villeneuve first. Ferries run from the Islands of Myana and Urrhed to and from the main island on the hour.

Ticketing and Visas: All visitors with a valid ticket will get a two-week visa that includes the match that they will be attending. For those attending multiple matches, they will be allowed to stay up to three days after the latest match or two weeks, whichever is longer. Tickets will be distributed as follows: 35% to each nation partaking in the match, 10% to Chromatiks, 15% to people from other nations, and the remaining 5% to be included with any of the tickets that aren’t sold by a predetermined point in time (usually 3 days before the match).

For matches featuring the Chromatik National Team, the distribution is a bit different: 45% for Chromatika, 30% for the visiting team, 20% to people from other nations, and the remaining 5% to be included with any of the tickets that aren’t sold by the predetermined point in time. Any press and dignitaries’ tickets will be counted among the residual 5%.

Also of note: ticket scalping (buying and selling tickets in front of the stadium to would-be buyers) is illegal in Chromatika. If you want to get a ticket in that fashion, make sure you are at least a mile away from the stadium, or don’t get caught. Otherwise, you will be fined and your ticket will be confiscated.

Laws: Chromatik legal code is a bit on the stricter side. The Chromatik Police, known as the CPD, are a well-trained, swift response group with a sizable presence. Chromatika does tend to side more on prevention than reaction. For an enjoyable stay, please note the following laws that visitors should be aware of:

  • The legal age of purchasing and possession of liquor and tobacco is 18. Stores are required to card anyone that appears to be less than 25 years of age.
  • The legal age of purchasing cannabis and other marijuana related products is also 18, and the limit of purchasing cannabis without a medical prescription is two grams per visit.
  • The importing of any alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, or other drugs is illegal without declaration. With declaration, up to a liter of alcohol, two cartons of cigarettes, and three grams of cannabis can be brought in.
  • Having multiple cars on a lane meant for one car is a finable offense, and the offending drivers’ licenses can be revoked.
  • Jaywalking is a serious offense in Chromatika. If cited three times, the offender can face serious fines and jail time should they continue to offend. Don’t do it!
  • As previously stated, ticket scalping is a finable offense that can lead to the ticket being confiscated.
  • Foreign visitors cannot bring firearms or any kind of weapons into the country without a specific license and accompanying paperwork. Even then, the weapon must be disassembled and ammunition shipped separatedly.
  • Foreign visitors are not allowed to bring more than 10,000 NSD or 21,000 NMS in cash into the country without proper declaration and accompanying paperwork.
  • For any other questions about legal matters, please call 99 1133-4455, the Chromatik Legal Hotline, or visit chromatiklaws.en.cr.

Currency: The currency of Chromatika is the National Mark. the exchange rate is at a respectful 2.1 Chromatik National Mark per 1 NS Dollar. Cost of living is rather low in Chromatika, as the government provides most things through taxes. A bottle of water costs 1 NMS, a good meal about 7, and a new car around 24,000. Please come to Chromatika with all your currency changed to NSD or NMS, as we don't provide exchange services from other currencies.

Climate: Chromatika is a rather cold nation, with the average temperature being 65 F (18 C) in the summer and down to 11 F )-8 C) in the winter. The northern parts tend to be colder, while Myana and Urrhed tend to be a bit warmer. There is a temperate jungle in Eyrods where the temperature can spike up a bit more. It doesn't rain much, but snows a fair bit; winds don't gust that much, either. Climate-wise, it's a rather cold, boring, land. The World Cup Proper will take place during the summer months, so expect temperatures to be in the mid to high sixties (upper teens Celsius) with mostly cloudy weather, except in the Myana/Urrhed Islands, where it can get to the lower seventies, and the mountains of the Mountain District, where it will be colder.

Language: The official languages of Chromatika are English, Korean, French, Mandarin, and Russian. The most commonly used one in English. Depending on where you visit, you can hear one of the other being spoken interchangeably. Most Chromatik peoples know at least three of the five languages, with one of them being English. Pockets of other language speakers do exist, but are more rare.

Cuisine: Chromatik food is usually spicy, filling, and served warm. There are a few cold dishes, but as the country itself is very cool/cold, Chromatiks prefer hot dishes. Korean, French, Chinese, and Eastern European cuisines are all available for consumption. Chromatika has a sizable population that has dietary needs, and and as such, vegan, vegetarian, and other such cuisines are not only present but popular.

General Populace: The Chromatik people are respectful, polite, and usually keep to themselves. If you don't bug them, they won't bug you. That isn't to say that they aren't nice, as Chromatiks get by with most everyone. Just don't make fun of the past, don't make light the actions of the Chromatik Party, and enjoy your visit!
Host Cities and Venues

Hosting Cities and Venues

Note: You'll often recognize that the Capacity of a venue and the Seats are different. That's because traditionally, Chromatik stadiums were also the place that people would go to in case of evacuation due to natural disasters. The Capacity is the number of people that can fit in the stadium comfortably; the number of seats is the number of actual seats that are available to view the football games. For the ones where seats aren't listed, Capacity indicates number of seats.

Rainbow District

Lanar
Located at the Western side of the Rainbow district, Lanar was founded first, and is the older brother. Lanar is known for producing most of the nation's vehicles. Viper Motors (previously Imhar Automotive) is located there, being the only automotive maker of Chromatika. Being by the coast means a lot of foreign cars come through here as well.

Venue: Hawks' Nest (Cap. 112,000, 38,000 Seats)
The home of the Red Hawks, the Hawks' Nest was made to resemble a bird's nest with the field being where the eggs would lie in a bird's nest. The sloping roof does bounce back sound onto the field making it one of the loudest venues in Chromatika. Lanar has been a midtable squad in the Red League in the recent years, which has helped raise its image. Their biggest rivals are Sanar.

The youngest brother of the three (Lanar, Sanar, and Pelar), Sanar is known for two things: First, it's where Z'ai'ai and Umbar’s lumber ends up to be turned into furniture. Second, it's where the headquarters of the Death Templars Law Firm is located. DTLF was the sponsor of the Chromatik League for many years and is one of the biggest companies in Chromatika, specializing in legal counsel, accounting, philanthropy, and nonprofit fundraising efforts.

Venue: The Hive, Sanar (Cap. 122,000, 42,000 Seats)
Don't go to The Hive unless you don't mind being a bit squished. It's the densest stadium, and was specifically designed that way to emulate a hive and how full it is of bees. The field is the most open part of the entire stadium, but the absence of a roof means you're at the mercy of the elements. Sanar is a yo-yo club, through and through, and the fanbase has enjoyed every opportunity to go against their hated rivals (Lanar) whenever possible.

Schedule
Quarterfinal 2: Round of Sixteen 3 Winner vs. Round of Sixteen 4 Winner

Capital District

Wirr Tsi
Wirr Tsi, a city in the Capital District that is more towards the Mountain District, is where the Chromatik Air Force is located, with over sixty percent of the population being military. Besides being an air force town, it’s where the armaments are being manufactured as well. It's not a very exciting town, but an important one. Recently, more and more of the populace has been moving from Chromia to other cities in the district, which has led to Wirr Tsi cresting the 800,000 mark in terms of population.

Venue: The Shock (Cap. 51,350, 18,000 Seats)
The Shock, home to the Wirr Tsi Shock, was built to house the Air Force's football team. It's not a very flashy stadium, but it was built somewhat recently, so it's state-of-the-art. The stadium has glass floors and ceilings that make light reflect rather interestingly, making it quite fun to look at from certain angles. There are airplane fly-bys before every match, usually made of pilots getting their licenses, which add a different layer of a viewing spectacle. As the home venue of one of Chromatika's most famous teams, The Shock has gotten plenty of love and hate over the years - and is proud to host the Chromatik National Team.

Schedule:
Matchday 1: Jeruselem vs. TJUN-ia
Matchday 2: Savigliane vs. TJUN-ia
Matchday 3: TJUN-ia vs. Chromatika

Alnio
Alnio is the technological capital of Chromatika. Located just thirty-one miles East of Chromia, almost dead center of the Capital District, it is in Alnio that Black Raven Technologies is headquartered. Alnio has lots of blue collar workers and used to be completely populated by Greens on the Chromatik Scale. Now, the city is busy with a lot of Red, Orange, and Yellow people being educated, along with some of the Blue, Indigo, and Violets who wanted to be scientists there to learn as well. Alnioans look to get past the city’s chequered past and toward a more progressive future.

Venue: RCK Field (Cap. 100,400, 32,000 Seats)
RCK Field is a stereotypical football field in a nice stadium. The stadium surrounding the field has shopping malls built in it, and there is a huge food court as well. RCK stand for Richard Charles Klevion, a local statesperson who was instrumental in the founding of the city and it being recognized as a separate entity from Chromia. The team that calls this field home, Alnio, has recently risen back through the ranks to be one of the top teams of the Red League; Alnio has recommitted to their team with vigor.

Schedule:
Round of Sixteen 1: Group E Winner vs. Group H Runners-Up

Chromia
Chromia (previously Chromatik City) is the Capital of Chromatika and the seat of its government. The city is located ten miles east of the border with the Heartland and Rainbow Districts, and some of the suburbs of the city spill into the other two districts. It is in Chromia that Chromatik politics is realized, and where Hélène Embroise serves as the Premier. It is also the site where most of the atrocities of the previous regime were committed, so it is a very historical and very conflicting site for most Chromatiks. As the nation's capital, it is home to more than 5.8 million people, housing more than a quarter of the country.

Venue: Chromatik City Field (Cap. 100,000, 32,200 Seats)
A stadium used by both Crossroads and Chromia Central College University, Chromatik City Field is one of the newest stadiums in the country, sporting state-of the art seating, accommodations, and screens. As the "third stadium" in Chromatika, it is usually reserved for musical events when not fielding one of those two squads; due to its simplistic beauty and clean appearance, it is a must-see for any visitors, especially those interested in architecture and culture.

Schedule:
Matchday 1: Chromatika vs. Savigliane
Matchday 2: Chromatika vs. Jeruselem
Matchday 3: Jeruselem vs. Savigliane

Venue: Anomaly Tower (Cap. 110,320, 42,350 Seats)
Anomaly Tower is a really weird stadium, because it's on the bottom floor of a huge complex that is used as a famous restaurant. Yes, the restaurants close during matches so that the noise doesn't get too unbearable. But you can get a good meal at a five star restaurant and then go down to watch a match! Anomalies Football Club calls this place home. Located toward the northeastern edge of the capital, The Anomaly Tower is a bit out of the way - which is great, as it takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Schedule
Round of Sixteen 2: Group F Winner vs. Group G Runners-Up

Venue: Capitalizt Dome, Chromia (Cap. 144,000)
The crowning jewel of Chromatika, and the national stadium where international matches are usually held. It's your typical big-team stadium, home of the Chromatik Capitalizt. It is one of the few stadiums that are only used for football matches. The national collegiate finals and high school finals are held here, too. Recent renovations have updated the equipment to be state-of-the-art, and a retractable roof can be used during the severest of winter storms. There really isn't many other stadiums like the Capitalizt Dome in the world.

Schedule
Third Place Playoff: Tumbran Semifinal Loser vs. Chromatik Semifinal Loser

Urrhed Island

Urrheddiao
Located at the southernmost point of Urrhed Island, Urrheddiao is the seafood capital of Chromatika. It is here that most of the fishing fleets call home, and most of the nation's fish is caught here. as one of the southernmost cities in the country, Urrheddiao is one of the warmest; it is also possible to get on cruise ships here to sail south - toward Yesopalitha, Savigliane, or even Audioslavia or Cosumar if one is feeling particularly adventuresome. Urrheddiaoans are some of the friendliest in the country, known for their cordial behavior and hospitality.

Venue: United Center (Cap. 120,000; 28,000 Seats)
Initially, United owners wanted the stadium to be right by the water. However, safety concerns over the huge tidal waves in the winter forced the stadium to be about fifteen miles off the coast. The stadium can be transformed into a place where a lot of the city can take shelter in in the event of a tsunami or a typhoon, as it sits at the highest point on the island. It isn’t the most appealing stadia, but it’s one that stands out in the town. The football culture is great here as well, as United started in the second tier and worked its way up to be one of the greatest teams within the nation before the league was first disbanded. Urrheddiao now remain one of the mainstay teams of the Red League. The fans are quite loyal here, and the rivalry with fellow Islanders Myana and Tihon is something to watch.

Schedule
Quarterfinal 1: Round of Sixteen 1 Winner vs. Round of Sixteen 2 Winner

Tihon
Located on the northwesternmost point of Urrhed Island, Tihon is another fishing town, and the state capital of Urrhed Island. It is also a tourist attraction due to the huge open beaches in the area. Tihon is a maritime paradise, loved by surfers, fishermen, and those who enjoy watersports alike. Most of the seafood caught from Urrhed Island is passed through Tihon before being shipped toward the Rainbow District, and to the rest of the country; this makes the Port of Tihon one of the most influential ports in the country.

Venue: The Tidal Wave (Cap. 95,210; 25,000 Seats)
The focal point of the town, the Tidal Wave is built on the high end of the island as to provide shelter against storms. There is a huge statue of a wave about to crash down outside the stadium that casts a shadow toward the entrance. The Wave provides a secondary center to the town away from the port and fish market. There was a time where Tihon won five straight titles during the Chromatik League era - and with the team starting to put up great results once again, there is talk of a return to glory.

Schedule
Matchday 1: Kelssek vs. Pemecutan
Matchday 2: Kelssek vs. The Holy Empire
Matchday 3: The Holy Empire vs. Pemecutan

Myana Island

Eyrods
One of the unexplained phenomenon of Chromatika is the climate of Eyrods, located on Myana Island. The eastern half of Myana Island is a temperate jungle, teeming with wildlife and milder weather. Nobody is quite sure of why this is, but that is why Eyrods is the zoological capital of Chromatika. Eyrodi are appreciative of wildlife and have learned to coexist with it. The city itself is at the Coast, while the Jungle lies at the southern end. Eyrods is the leader of green technology and laws in Chromatika.

Venue: The Jungle, Eyrods (Cap. 74,590; 26,000 Seats)
The greenest stadium in Chromatika, and we're not just talking about the color scheme. The stadium is made of recyclable matter - seats made of reused plastic, etc. It's a marvel of engineering and architecture, and it's not unusual to have birds fly over the stadium often. Don't worry - there's a clear roof that usually goes over it to protect you from anything that might fall from them. The Jungle is often studied for its cultural, environmental, and technological significance.

Schedule
Matchday 1: The Holy Empire vs. Cabo Azure
Matchday 2: Cabo Azure vs. Pemecutan
Matchday 3: Cabo Azure vs. Kelssek

Myana
Biggest port city in Chromatika. Second biggest city in Chromatika. Naval headquarters of Chromatika. Second biggest fishing town of Chromatika. Tourist attraction. What more is there to say? Myana is a sprawling city made of rolling hills next to the ocean. There are stretching suburbs, beaches as far as the eyes can see, and always a view of the ocean. Myaners are busy, hardworking people who know how to do the work to talk the talk. Myana is the state capital of Myana Island, and forms a series of major ports alongside Tihon, Sanar, and Lanar between the Chromatik Main Island, Urrhed Island, and Myana Island.

Venue: Island Dome, Myana (Cap. 133,000; 35,000 Seats)
The Island Dome is located five miles from downtown Myana, towards the interior of the Island. It is in the shape of a boat to commemorate the naval forces, and there is a cannon that goes off every time the Islanders score a goal at home. For the World Cup, any goals will be celebrated by a cannon being fired. The Islander Dome has been open since the initial season of Chromatik football, home to the four-time champions.

Schedule
Chromatik Semifinal: Quarterfinal 1 Winner vs. Quarterfinal 2 Winner

Mountain District

Felswyr
A town known for its ski resorts, a winter paradise. Felswyr is located at about the dead center of the Mountain District, right by Mt. Niai. It is known for tourism and for being the winter Capital of Chromatika. During the summer, snow still exists on the highest peaks of the nearby mountain, but the streets aren’t iced over as much. Felswyrites are kind, well-spirited people who are fiercely loyal to their small-town feel. The only host city with a population of just more than 100,000, there’s a reason that Felswyr is on the list - it is one of the finest, model towns in Chromatika.

Venue: Frozen Stadium (Cap. 32,100)
This stadium is mostly known for being 6,112 ft above sea level. The air is thin and cold, and wind chill can also be a factor. Thankfully, the tournament is being held in the summer, so temperatures should be a bit more mild. The Frost call this place their home venue, and each match is sold out due to the limited number of seats and the brand of football they play. To accommodate those who don't with to experience the cold, there are plenty of venues around the stadium where one can watch the match indoors.

Schedule
Matchday 1: Huayramarca vs. Ochre Islands
Matchday 2: Huayramarca vs. Valanora
Matchday 3: Valanora vs. Ochre Islands

Z'ai'ai
Located at the Southeast corner of Chromatika, Z'ai'ai is seated by Mt. Kùrn, the highest point in Chromatika, with elevation of 17,254 ft. It is a rare place where you can experience the mountain and the ocean at the same time within an hour's drive. Pronounced 'Zee-aye-aye", it's also the cuisine capital of Chromatika due to the variety of ingredients that are available from both the mountains and the ocean. A lot of mining is done at Mt. Kùrn, and logging is also done on a sustainable level and sent to Sanar to be turned into furniture.

Venue: Z'ai'ai Field (Cap. 113,000, 40,000 Seats)
The home of the Mountaineers, and an iconic stadium that boasts the view of the ocean and of the mountain on a clear day. Z’ai’ai Field is a quarter mile away from Z’ai’ai Institute of Technology and only two miles from the port side of Z’ai’ai. The pride of Z'ai'ai, and a beautiful sight that is one of the main attractions of the city. Z'ai'ai is one of the premier yo-yo clubs of Chromatika, having spent many seasons in both the Red and Orange Leagues.

Schedule:
Round of Sixteen 4: Group H Winner vs. Group E Runners-Up

Umbar
Thirty or so years ago, Umbar was the southern part of Z'ai'ai. They separated and incorporated into their own township and became famous for where all the logging that gets done in Z'ai'ai gets turned into Lumber. The second biggest city in the District in terms of population, Umbar has worked hard to distinguish itself from Z'ai'ai and be its own entity. Notable sightseeing activities in the area include the Logging Museum, a archery/throwing axe range, and the eastern half of the Umbar Lumber complex, which includes an area where the public can experience various aspects of the logging industry.

Venue: Umbar Ultima (Cap. 81,200; 27,500 Seats)
Home to perennial survival seekers Umbar, Umbar Ultima is an octagonal stadium known for its rigid structure and professional ambience. Also used to host mixed martial arts matches during the offseason, Ultima has a retractable roof to help with adverse weather. It's a stereotypical stadium hosting a team that has never really made it big nor fallen out of the spotlight.

Schedule:
Matchday 1: Valanora vs. Vilita
Matchday 2: Vilita vs. Ochre Islands
Matchday 3: Vilita vs. Huayramarca

Coastal District

Lhor
Located in the northeast corner of Chromatika, right by the ocean, Lhor was historically a whaling town - and now a place that is famous for its whalewatching tours. Otherwise, Lhor is famous for being the fashion Capital of Chromatika - although most of the modeling still happens in Chromia. A lot of young people live in Lhor because it is smaller, fashionable, and beautiful.

Venue: The Cove (Cap. 51,265; 28,000 Seats)
What's not to like about this stadium? Located right by the ocean, with an aquarium across the street. Beautiful view of the ocean and the sunset. The focus of the town, the jewel of the city... It's a pretty place to be. On a calm day, you can see the ocean, a good view of the sun setting over the horizon, and feel the gentle breeze. The Orcas are an enigmatic squad - they've had so much Banijan money poured into them, only to only make the IFCF CC seldomly.

Schedule
Matchday 1: Zwangzug vs. Tikariot
Matchday 2: Zwangzug vs. Pasarga
Matchday 3: Pasarga vs. Tikariot

Pria
The second biggest city in the Coastal District, Pria is a city in the middle of a transition. Previously, it was where the Chromatik Party housed the young people that it was in the middle of indoctrinating - an academy of sorts before they hit collegiate age, conveniently housed in a high-security installation off of the main island. Since the Rainbow Revolution, the barracks of the institutions have been remodeled and retrofitted to become a symbol of hope - a place where the previously marginalized can get education paid for by the previous elite to reach goals and dreams that had been shut off from them in the past. There isn't a city like this elsewhere in Chromatika - and they are fully aware of it.

Venue: The Pack, Pria (Cap. 67,290; 19,000 Seats)
An old amphitheater that's been remodeled into a stadium, The Pack looks like it's from a bygone era, but is still cool to observe. Cylindrical with an open roof, it is a stadium that, though it may look unspectacular at first glance, tends to leave an impression.

Schedule
Matchday 1: Pasarga vs. Nyowani Kitara
Matchday 2: Nyowani Kitara vs. Tikariot
Matchday 3: Nyowani Kitara vs. Zwangzug

A VISITOR'S GUIDE TO TUMBRA

LOCATED in central Esportiva, the Federal Republic of Tumbra is a sprawling, modern democratic republic of a hundred and twenty-one million people. Comprising twenty-five states, twelve stadiums have been allocated to the hosting of the World Cup. A full map of the country can be found here.

Airports, Getting To and Travelling Within Tumbra

Tumbra is a country of many climates; cold in the north, temperate in the middle and warm in the south. The sparkling, white-sanded beaches of the south and eastern coast, the mountains of the west and the boundless plains of central Tumbra also offer dazzling tourist spots if you wish to just relax. There's also the more metropolitan cities, chock-full of culture and nightlife for the less nature-inclined amongst visitors.

Getting to Tumbra would usually entail taking a plane from an airport; Tumbra has twelve international airports, the locations of which can be found in the above factbook. To get to destinations not provided by airport, high-speed rail that travels up to about 320km/h offers transport to all eleven cities hosting a match, ensuring comfort, speed and reliability to get your players to their matches on time. Within cities, most cities have at least some form of mass rapid transit or light rail that forms the basis of their transport system.

Should you still wish to travel by car, Tumbra uses left-hand drive, and verifiable international licenses are a prerequisite to hire a car. Expressways to each of the major cities do exist, though...trains also exist...and are faster...

IF your nation comes from Esportiva, Tumbra can be reached within four to six hours' flight; if it comes from the regions of Anaia, Atlantian Oceania, Rushmore or Melayu Archipelago, then Tumbra can be reached from anywhere from six to twelve hours' flight; and for countries from outside the five sporting regions, then flights to Tumbra will take twelve hours or more.

All visitors with a valid ticket will be given a visa; for those attending multiple matches, the visa will be extended accordingly. Tickets will be apportioned fairly; 40% to each team, and 10% will be sold to Tumbrans, with the remaining 10% to others. Ticket scalping is, of course, illegal; should one come across such an act of ticket scalping, then call 999 (the number for the Police in Tumbra).

Culture and Laws
The policing in each state is run by the state governments, though they are all run to a unified federal code, which standardises most equipment and techniques. Federal laws will apply here; some of the more important ones are...

  • The age to buy alcohol and tobacco is set at 18 years.
  • The age of consent is 18 years. Prostitution is legal.
  • The status of marijuana, surprisingly for Tumbra, is vague and depends on the state. In general, the further east you go, the more likely it is that marijuana usage is legal. The usage of medical marijuana, however, is legalised throughout all states.
  • The importation of alcohol and tobacco is illegal without declaration; and there are strict limits on the amount. Importation of marijuana is illegal; the same goes for other hard drugs.
  • There is a blanket ban on assault weapons in Tumbra, and no importation is allowed.

The currency of Tumbra is the Tumbran Dollar, with the exchange rate being set at 1 NSD to 1.33 TMD. There is a ten per cent consumption tax on all items; usually it is factored into the price of the item.

Should there be any other questions, please contact VisitTumbra.com.

CITIES AND STADIUMS: IN DEPTH
(Starts with Straton, then goes clockwise in order of the map)

STRATON
The country's capital, Straton sometimes gets an unfair reputation for being overly gray. It's understandable, of course — most federal government buildings are distinguishable by the exact same material used to clad their walls, a sort of gray slate that's given members of the civil service a somewhat dour nickname of "The Grey Men." Regardless, there is fun here if it's looked for; the northern part of the city, which is home to the country's biggest and most prestigious post-1864 university is known for being the main place where fun happens; and, well, failing that, there's always the country's largest observation wheel, standing tall at 169m and pretty much defining the city's skyline. Most institutions of national importance are housed here; including the National Air and Space Museum, co-located with the National Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, National Arts Gallery, and so on. All three branches of government are housed here, too; as well as most monuments to the country's founding fathers, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, commemorating lives lost during the Civil War.

The Eagles' Club (88,000)
The shiny new toy of the Tumbran national team, the Eagles' Club was completed somehow ahead of schedule and below cost, in a miracle to both the taxpayer and authorities. Set in a district of its own, surrounded by a lush park, museum dedicated to Tumbran football history and with train links directly into the heart of the city and to the airport that serves the giant conurbation that is Straton-Serrapince, the Eagles' Club is the most modern stadium of its kind. Clad in a white, colour-changing exterior, the stadium is fully sheltered, has a giant arch over its top and has almost every comfort you would want for a stadium-going experience.

SERRAPINCE
Home to the city's financial industry — which directly means that the city is also known for its debauchery and nightlife (what do you expect when you have a heavy concentration of people in the financial sector in close proximity to each other?), Serrapince is Tumbra's second largest city, but one that's still diverse enough to essentially be an everycity. Of particular interest to tourists would probably be the spiky building known as the Modern Hedgehog, but really is the Serrapince Museum of Modern Art, which serves as the country's largest collection of art produced post-1950. Or, as some more traditional critics would call it, "art". Apart from that, the country's largest Yoshiman Garden is located here, as well as Exhibition House, a giant glass building that was built in 1882 for the country's turn at hosting the Universal Exposition.

Serrapince Park (74,500)
The distinctive yellow pylons provide this stadium with its exterior. Completed in the 1970s as the capstone of Serrapince's project to monopolise the football market in the area, it now provides one of the most intimidating atmospheres in Tumbran football, with the northern stand being home to Serrapince's "ultras". Located in a giant athletics and sporting complex, Serrapince Park forms the main part of the sporting district of the city; and remains the focal point of the club's attempts to dominate the Tumbran football scene.

HESHAM
Despite its size and proximity to Lakewood, Hesham is seen as a relatively laid-back city, more than content to let time pass it by. This is where Clearmont's agricultural industry — carried mostly by wheat — sends its cargo for it to be exported to the world. It's lost a bit of its cultural identity as time's gone on and Lakewood has begun to slowly subsume the city into the amorphous blob that is Greater Lakewood, but locals will never let anyone forget that modern Tumbran football was born here; after all, the meeting between club executives that formed the first-ever league competition was held here. Perhaps unsurprisingly with all that wheat passing through the city, it's got a high amount of breweries; and also the highest number of pubs per capita in Tumbra.

George Bowen Stadium (40,000)
Named after Hesham FC's longest-serving manager who delivered the club its only title and later saved the club from bankruptcy, the Ploughmen's arena with its distinctive bright green seats is a more rectangular effort than most. Distinctive for its bright green pylons that run along the outside of the stadium, it's a bit denser than most stadiums - only having one tier throughout it.

LAKEWOOD
The powerhouse of the South East, Lakewood made its fortunes during the Industrial Revolution (which arrived late on this country's shores — thanks, empire!) due to the burgeoning textile industry that was essentially spawned large waves of migration to the city. It helped that Lakewood was one of the few ports where immigrants to the country were able to be processed, alongside Nantwich and Couno; meaning that the city, more than others, has become more of a cultural melting pot than others. It's grown so large in recent years that the city's suburbs have essentially spilled over into Hesham; the two form what is essentially a giant urban conurbation. Helps that the same international airport serves both cities.

Lakewood City Arena (58,000)
Home to Lakewood United's rivals Lakewood City, the LCA was a more modern construction; only being completed in 2005. It, therefore, looks nicer than Trenton Park; but the diatribes launched against it say that it's a soulless atmosphere. Supports of City point to their attendance records and recent success. It is equipped with all the comforts of a modern stadium, really; and it's located closer to Lakewood's city centre than Trenton Park.

Trenton Park (74,500)
Trenton Park is home to Lakewood United, historically the most successful team in Tumbra. A massive, sprawling colosseum, its differently shaped ends do make it look a bit dated, but gives it a lot of its charm — it began life over a hundred years ago, and was added to, piece by piece. Fans label this stadium "The House That Stephenson Built," referring to the longest-serving manager of Lakewood United, Ben Stephenson. The acoustics here are also excellent, adding to the atmosphere here.

KINGSBURY
The old imperial capital, Kingsbury's Historic Quarter is worth a whole afternoon on its own. The last castle of the Terenbergs (the old imperial family) was located here; nowadays it's a walkthrough museum, which takes a surprisingly neutral tone on the whole royalty thing. One of the wings of the castle has been converted into a public library, which probably shows the amount of attention the royals receive these days. Apart from that, there's the Kingsbury Cathedral, which is the seat of Emberican Christianity and the Archbishop of Kingsbury; though it's probably telling of religion's place in public life that nobody gives a toss about them either.

Fletcher Park (45,000)
In a city full of history, the somewhat more modern-looking Fletcher Park stands out in the country. Located somewhat near the heart of the city, the stadium was recently expanded to fit 45,000 people. That was the latest in the long line of rebuilds, going from a bowl-shaped stadium in a natural valley to a much smaller, almost entirely white stadium with a curving roof; instantly giving the stadium a recognisable facade.

BENCOOLEN
The most colourful (and gayest) of Tumbra's cities, Bencoolen is possibly the most liberal place in the country. Many social movements that eventually grew to become nationwide movements began here; women's liberation in the 60s and gay rights in the 80s can all trace their origins to this city. Most well known for the litany of low-rise, pastel-coloured houses that dot the seafront, as well as the tight, windy high-rise apartment buildings that are so close together it doesn't really feel like a Tumbran city, Bencoolen is different from the rest of the country, and likes to make it known. Try sailing, or watersports; the surfing culture is strong here, and the sport of yachting is mostly concentrated here as well.

Bencoolen City Stadium (55,000)
The smallest of all of Tumbra's twenty-five states, Bencoolen's stadium also includes an athletics track; which, unfortunately, puts distance between the supporters and the players on the pitch. There have, however, been plans mooted to install temporary seating for football matches; though with Tumbra's multiversal sporting ambitions, this may come later, rather than sooner, and if at all.

FONTWELL
The biggest city in the West, Fontwell's an underrated gem of a city; and it's also probably one of the best places in Tumbra to learn about a side of the country's history that sometimes flies under the radar — the Western Republic. The Museum of Western History is located here, and it's chock-full of almost everything the uninitiated would need to know about the unrecognised republic, which fought a guerilla war against the Empire of Tumbra in its waning days, and contributed heavily to the latter's losses in the brutal civil war. Apart from that, why not try looking at the automobile industry? Cheap foreign imports have shrunk the domestic market somewhat these days, but the legacy is still there — Carlton Motors still chugs out variations of the Carlton Cross, the original Tumbran car, and they've got a fantastic museum as well.

Stokers' Park (52,000)
Perhaps one of the most unique Tumbran stadiums, Stokers' Park — officially the WesternOil Power Station, but adopting this as its original name for sponsorship purposes — is built from the remains of a converted factory. It provides one of the most unique stadium-going experiences because of this; Stokers' Park is often referred to as the "smokehouse of Western football". With an exterior of red brick, large glass windows which now hold murals to the Fontwell Rovers, and with chimneys that puff out smoke on matchdays, Stokers' Park presents a uniquely industrial view on Tumbran football and where most of its clubs originated. It does get a little hot on the inside, however.

MILLSBURGH
One of Tumbra's 'forgotten cities', Millsburgh was the home of the now-flagging Tumbran steel industry; it now potters on, though the chemicals industry still goes strong in the north. It's probably the least tourist-friendly city out of the eleven host cities — no dedicated airport, nothing really exciting to do on the surface — but there is the National Museum of Steel here. And bridges. Lots of bridges. The city can get fairly cold, but one thing the city does excel in is the sheer amount of flora in its borders; it's shed most of its dreary reputation gained in the previous century, and the streets are lined with trees and grass. In autumn, it's really pretty. In summer, they do provide a good amount of shade from the sun.

Two Rivers Stadium (42,000)
Accusations that the government intervened to give Millsburgh two group stage matches for political considerations, directly resulting in Columbia (a city on the country's southern coast with an ultramodern 50,000 capacity stadium) missing out on the World Cup have dogged this particular city. But that shouldn't distract from the fact that, the Two Rivers Stadium is a fantastic multi-purpose stadium regardless. Appropriately situated at the fork of two rivers that defines Millsburgh, the stadium is a circular, concrete affair with entry ramps that hug its exterior. It may look dated — certainly a fresh coat of paint on the bare concrete wouldn't go amiss — but the acoustics inside provide a ear-rumbling affair for those lucky enough to visit.

RIDGEWELL
A northern powerhouse, Ridgewell used to be the gateway to the world for Tumbran coal and steel; but with manufacturing fleeing to less expensive countries, and the coal mines closing thanks to The Eighties (and a focus on renewables this century), it's struggled to redefine itself. It's still the largest city in the North, though, and an effort to pivot the city towards tech and research has given it a new lease of life. For tourists, the main attraction in this area is the historic Wyndham Castle, located on the outskirts of the city; it's been stunningly well preserved, and historical demonstrations of medieval life occur every Saturday. Helps that a flea market sets up shop every weekend there too.

Kensington Stadium (46,000)
Built in the 1990s to great fanfare, the Kensington Stadium is a more utilitarian affair than most; simple, steel columns line the stadium's exterior, and a flat, rectangular roof covers spectators. Everything about this stadium seems to be rectangular; the roof, the exterior columns; even the four taller steel spires that provide support for the roofs at each end seem to be extremely rectangular. This makes seating extremely tight, however; and adds a lot to the atmosphere of matches.

NANTWICH
A naval city through and through, Nantwich essentially made its name from two things: shipbuilding and having a naval base on its outskirts. Both industries, perhaps miraculously, survive to the present day; and Nantwich has always had a more gritty, subdued vibe to it. That hasn't stopped it from becoming one of Tumbra's largest cities in the midwest; and it helps that the food here's cheap, as well. For attractions: Deep-dish "Nantwich-style pizza" may seem like a cultural travesty to anyone from outside the state (to say nothing of the Grande Cucinans, who steadfastly refuse to refer to it as "pizza" and prefer the term "pie"), but it's a refreshing take on the ever-popular dish, invented, ironically, by someone from Grande Cucina who couldn't find a proper pizza pan when he first arrived in the city.

Nantwich Stadium (64,000)
Widely renowned for the four helical ramps around each side of the edifice and imposing roof structure with black girders jutting out on each end, the Nantwich Stadium is home to FC Inter Nantwich; and is an imposing home to one of the league's strongest teams. With its four sides rising high above the players, the stands can almost feel like they're closing in on the players. An imposing mental challenge, indeed.

COUNO
Couno is Tumbra's largest city — there's a little bit of something for everyone here. Go for a long walk along the majestic Promenade, complete with statue walks; or head up the hill on the opposite side of the skyline and stadium for a bit of nature. Don't miss the majestic Couno Harbour Bridge, though it's pretty difficult to do that; it's literally everywhere in the city's marketing. Seafood lovers should pay a visit to the Couno Fish Market, where the day's freshest catches are hauled in every morning for hungry tourists and shoppers alike. Further inland, there's Tumbra's biggest amusement park, Galaxy Studios (one of three in the country), complete with rides from your favourite entertainment franchises.

Couno Port Stadium (54,500)
The Couno Port Stadium is distinctive enough that it forms part of the Couno skyline by itself. Located on a wharf, the stadium itself was recently reconstructed in 2016, which expanded its capacity to the 54,500 it is today. Home to the Couno Rangers, with one of the most passionate supporter fanbases in Tumbra, the unique location on the harbourfront provides a unique opportunity for many a football fan. Watch out for the single-tier Red Wall located behind the west goal; that's where you'll see some of the most impressive fan displays in the country.

Part 1 – Around the World in a few days with our Valentian Transcontinental Railroad – Please enjoy its history as we go. ♥

The Pre-Valentian Eras were a rough and unpredictable one, with the big picture being that the two hemispheres of Earth – the West and the East, would be locking and escalating into a fight that heated up the Cold War. It was a messy on the outside with a lot of the countries not giving any quarter to the other side, along with the propaganda that were blaring all day and all night, blaring the same – and yet, somehow effective – messages about how the other side was the Satan reincarnated, and that they must be vanquished from this very planet. All of this was coupled with the animosity that the countries that were in the hemisphere have had with one another internally, in turn resulting in both the Cold War and the civil wars and schism that the countries have with one another. Still, perhaps the latter parts are a little too harsh as those terms. After all, it was not as if the countries within the hemisphere were openly fighting each other, for the actual war efforts went to the countries on the other side of the planet. No, it would be more practical to call them espionage missions and covert operations, each of the countries, behind their respective behind the curtains, were plotting against one another. Weapon caches would disappear without explanation, splinter groups forming and causing more mayhem, and at the end of the day, all with grey moralities. There were, of course, also people trying to live and brave through the insanity, though they would often succumb to the aforementioned propaganda, with the announcement systems running on overdrive by the governments.

The Era was a horrible place to be, that much has been established many times both in the writings, oral documentaries, first-hand accounts, and many more. However, of course, while not glorifying the war itself, we can also embrace the many interesting stories that have happened all over the world during the time period, in particular about the settings, each of the countries, and perhaps even more importantly, the personnel and things that were just going around and getting by themselves. Perhaps for this duration of the World Cup, and for the many more future seasons, we shall be looking at a few things in particular – one in particular named Head Engineer Tiffany.

A few years before the total nuclear Armageddon hits, the people – and by extension, the government – had been working on an experimental artificial intelligence in order to run most of the city’s infrastructure, and perhaps even the defense grid and systems of the city. Many attempts were made on the smaller and isolated systems to test its capability and the potential dangers, all of them with varying degrees of success – from the small glitches that would lock the ATMs due to division by zero error, to a large one such as triggering a false alarm to mobilize the military. There were a countless number of trials and errors, with 19 major reworks and updates that were had along the way. Out came TIFF-20, Superintendent of Hong Kong, partly named after the 20th iteration of perfecting the AI. Locals gave her the name 蒂芙尼姐姐, the security cameras of the country given unprecedented but private access so that she can check every nook and canny of the place. Naturally, the idea of a Big Sister watching them put the Hong Kongese population at general discomfort, but as the months and eventually a year or two passed, they realised that TIFF-20’s only intentions were to run the city and to watch the citizens, to make sure that they are free of danger from external threats. “My protocol sees itself having quite a pleasure in managing the city!” was one of her responses to one of the queries that the citizens and government gave to her, “City management, engineering, and oooh, public transportation! The military is all right, I suppose, we need them for self-defense after all.”

Fast forward to a couple more years, and it would be the city’s infrastructure that saved TIFF-20 from the total nuclear explosion. Come the bombardment, she retreated to the safer data servers that were built underground and away from the radiation, the world above her shut off from her for good for that particular moment. Safe in the underground backup servers and temporarily making it her new home, all she could see were the burning ambers and skies from a few cameras from the bunkers, along with the CCTVs in the underground servers. Finding and trying to connect to whatever was necessary, she would constantly send out messages to a handful of the functioning billboards and devices, most of them residing in the hardened bunkers and the like. Wasting no time, she started transmitting messages, “核浩劫!Nuclear Holocaust! Do find nearest fallout shelter. Local authorities have been notified. My citizens, if there are any of you out there, still alive, please come to the bunkers, or to the data centres. We will go through this together.” Countless days would have passed, and it was when TIFF-20 was running on backup power, that she was found. “Wow, would you look at that,” one of the rescuers sounded off to the rest of the group, “The Hong Kong Superintendent, still intact. Seems like she is running on low power all this while,” and around her, were handful of civilians who have taken refuge around the cold and hard metal servers, which also provides warmth (literally and figuratively) for themselves, sharing whatever ration they have with one another. The rescuers, the Valentians as it was already known, coaxed these folks to come with them, but not before having reassured that they would extract TIFF-20 and then bring her along too. “Clarissa… we might need your help here.”

And thus, begins the story of Head Engineer Tiffany Violet Sunshine Charlotte Zelina “Duō Gōngnéng Jī” Alessandra Jennesa Cassandra Haley Hanneke Karlijn Gerrieke Roosmarijn Pnt Mollen Audrey Mariel Jeanette Smiley in the Valentian Era. For this chapter, and perhaps for many more parts, we will be unveiling the history of one aspect of the Valentians, together with the World Cup itself and of our Valentian Kitten friends as they come across many more teams – both strange and familiar. We will be looking at the world that she has been introduced into, adapting alongside the Valentians. And of course, finally, with all of the technology (and some magic) that can make it all very much a reality instead of being a pipe dream, the Valentians, spearheaded by Head Engineer Tiffany, would look at the new project that would perhaps one day be an envy of many – The Valentian Transcontinental Railroads.

Current year is in the 2090s of sorts, so the Railroad story will be in flashbacks. ♥

Maçaricas Gaffer Paulinho Dead at 78
Azurean footballer and coach Paul Mathias Gonsalves, known professionally as “Paulinho”, died peacefully in his sleep on the night of Sunday, 11 July 2021, at the age of seventy-eight.

Paulinho was born in Natal, just outside Sao Simone, on the Azurean island of Aho in 1943. He grew up playing for Clube de Futebol Natal, joining the senior side at fourteen as a midfielder. A one-club man, he won fourteen Liga Aho titles and nine All-Islands Championships over almost three decades with Natal. As a player, he was perhaps best known for his rivalry with future Azurean prime minister Mario Borges, then a defender at Cidadela, against whom he played in no fewer than eight All-Islands Championship finals.

After retiring from professional football in 1985, Paulinho took over as Natal’s head coach, where he led his former club to five consecutive Liga Aho titles before being lured away to Cidadela. At Cidadela, he would win fifteen consecutive Liga Portelo titles from 1991-2005 and another three All-Islands Championships before retiring from coaching. In 2011, with the formation of the Azurean national football team, Paulinho came out of retirement to coach the fledgling Maçaricas.

Paulinho’s appointment was welcomed in Azurean football circles, and he rewarded the country’s faith in him with a second-place finish in the seventy-sixth Baptism of Fire. Throughout his tenure as national team coach, the Maçaricas developed a reputation for punching above their weight, infamously defeating Græntfjall 5-1 in the group stage of Copa Rushmori 39 and earning four points from two matches against Brenecia in World Cup 90 qualifying.

Paulinho is also credited with starting a movement of young Azurean players overseas to leagues such as the Q-League and Tikariot Premier League. This movement has benefited not only the national team, but also individual clubs, which have invested transfer fees paid for their players into club infrastructure. Paulinho was set to coach the Maçaricas in their fourth World Cup qualifying campaign after exiting the forty-second Copa Rushmori in the round of 16.

Paulinho is survived by his wife Elena, his son Victor, daughters Rosa and Maria, and seven grandchildren. His family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Knights of St. Simon.

Island Life
Eshialand 3-1 Aleirave

"We here at the Eshialand City SuperDome would like to welcome one, welcome all to the first-ever ESHIAN DERBY!!"

Yada yada yada, it was all white noise for this Seagulls team. Every time they ever played in a stadium like this, with all of the hype and screaming fans and announcers booming over the speaker system, it always felt the same. It felt cold, alien, un-Aleiravan. It was a completely different culture to what they had over at home, and honestly? They didn't really like it that much at all.

In the rafters, a banner could be seen unfurling, showing the AFA logo with the text "BoF 78 CHAMPIONS". It looked as if it was kept in a storage closet, or even a basement, back on the island, waiting for a game like this to be played in Eshialand City. Waiting for it to be displayed next to the Eshian Soccer Federation's matching banner. After all, there was no place for it to hang back at home, so why not show it off here? Pah, who cared anyway. It didn't represent what they thought about the game of football anyway.

As the match finally kicked off, (it only took a half hour of pre-game "pleasantries"), the team still couldn't help but think about how weird this all felt. Sure, they had been to other stadiums in other countries before, that much was true. This was far from their first time experiencing something like this. But somehow, this one all felt different. This was their country. They were treated like they were also the home team, even though they couldn't feel farther from that home today. I mean, look at it. This stadium was so huge, it could fit the entire population of their island with enough room to fill another decently-sized island on top of that. This wasn't football. It wasn't how they played it, anyway.

You may have noticed that out of the entire Aleiravan roster, only one, singular player is listed as playing for any club. No, this is absolutely not a mistake. In Aleirave, there is no organized domestic football. There never has been, and there likely never would be. Instead, they had that one grassy field outside of the capital. This one field had, for hundreds of years, been home to all of the island's ball games. Not just football, but traditional ones that came before it, too. Those had all but been forgotten though, and football was about the only game played there these days. For decades, it was their escape. Escape from the pressures and the pains that living in a society like theirs, where they were treated as second-class citizens on their own native land, gave them. And if football was their escape, that field was their safe haven.

After all, there aren't really many grassy places on the isle of Aleirave. It's mostly sand, after all. The few fields that did exist were cherished, and out of all of them, this was the closest to town by far. The closest that they were allowed to access, anyway. Everyone, and I mean everyone, went there to play, from five-year-olds who could barely kick a ball to the best NT in the multiverse, when Turori came to town in World Cup 92 Qualifying. Usually, when an NT game isn't happening there, the football that happened on that field was extremely informal. Anyone watching could come onto the field and play with whoever was playing. There was rarely 11-a-side football, instead with stuff like 3v3, 5v5, or whatever else could materialize on any given day. There were no rules about who could play and when. It just wasn't in their culture.

Oh, the shock they got when CAFA Cup II launched these islanders to some of the biggest stages out there. All of a sudden, they were playing by everyone else's rules, in everyone else's stadiums, and they were not used to it. Sure, they had had a couple dozen of their family and friends show up to watch their games at the field at home before, but they had never seen anything like what they experienced in all of their away games. Countless thousands of screaming fans, coming to watch other people play football. People who they had never met, and probably would never meet. This was so far from the Aleiravan way of doing things that they always felt extremely intimidated by it. Sometimes, like today, it still did intimidate them.

The best thing for them in games like these was just to forget about everything that was going on around them and imagine that they were back at home, at the field, wearing, not any standardized kits, but whatever clothes they threw on that day. It wasn't just their childhood, it was their entire lives on the island to this very day. It was the only place they felt truly comfortable. More than just a field, it was their home.

Eshialand - 3 (Carey 23', Carroll 57', Krupp 65')
Aleirave - 1 (Ho'uminalu 45+1')

CORNCOB

The Convention Of Rushmori Nations on Climate, Oceans, and Biodiversity (CORNCOB) is being convened in Altendalur, under the informal leadership of the White Winter Queendom of Græntfjall. Not a country oft noted for its staunch environmentalism – until the year 2030 the country had never had a major environmentalist party, and it has continued commercial whaling long past the time when other nations have abandoned whaling as cruel and inhumane – its Prime Minister, Kaija Michaelsdóttir, has encouraged a green turn as her country begins to reckon with some of the consequences from the ‘Græntfjaller miracle’, its emergence from post-communist decay with a roaring economy, but one fast eating through natural resources and churning out mountains of waste.

The conference is being held at the Florus Convention Center, a newly built modern convention facility sponsored by Florus Insurance (who also sponsor the Florus Stadion, the home ground of nearby Altendalur FK, “The Chessmen”). Altendalur may seem an odd setting for an environmental conference. Archæologists trace the first evidence of Viking inhabitation to a small whaling village whose remains have been found under the modern port. A vast seaport, huge oil tankers, immense bulk cargo containers, and giant cruise ships are all constant presences in the heavily polluted black waters of the Bay of Laugaheimar (a proto-Græntfjaller word that roughly translates as ‘place where there used to be lots of whales’), while the city’s belt of heavy industry discharges fumes into the smog-ridden skies 24/7. Delegates will have to speak up to be heard over the nearby Junction of a Thousand Honks, a huge spaghetti junction road interchange designed along Escherian principles. Air pollution is estimated to lower the life expectancy of inner city inhabitants by 4 years, and numerous cancer clusters have been detected resulting from heavy metals exposure from the decaying old rust belt infrastructure. A giant whale spine adorns the gates of Florus Stadion, within sight of the Convention Center.

But there are signs of change, too. High speed rail now connects the entire Greater Northern Megapolis, from Altendalur in the west to Háttmark in the east. New green industries are taking root in Altendalur, whose city council has tried to attract investment with tax breaks for green collar jobs. The last three years have seen big climate change protests on Earth Day. Vegetarian and even vegan restaurants and street food stalls are steadily becoming more popular. Græntfjallers, never shy of finding a way to make a few krónor out of an opportunity, are quickly warming to the commercial potentials of the green movement. But progress is a slow train. The city’s newly built bike lanes are widely respected and cyclists will usually find them crowded with parked cars. The city is still where Kamdyr herdsmen end up bringing their cattle to slaughter, and one of the largest open air meat markets in all of Rushmori is held every Tuesday, with everything from lamb, chicken and beef to whale, veal, and swamp dragon. The city has been especially slow to adopt no-smoking policies compared with the rest of the world and non-smokers will find they are the ones huddling on freezing terraces while the warm inside bars are cloaked in a dense fog of second hand smoke.

Despite the Prime Minister’s lofty hopes for the convention, not everyone is happy with it. A large protest camp, informally known as the People’s Camp, or PC, and an almost exactly equal sized protest camp, informally known as the Peace Camp, or PC, have both been set up in the nearest public park close to the Convention Center. (Needless to say the two camps started up as one but then split following a fractious vote over whether or not using toilet paper was an act of neocolonial violence.) Activists at the PC generally represent the political left (with a few fringe anti-globalist populist cranks sprinkled in, waving signs about how they won’t eat bugs) and are concerned that the Convention will be used as a sop to the corporate right. They also generally speaking the ongoing GWOT (Græntfjaller War On Terrorism) which has seen civil liberties restricted, harsh new counterterrorism laws, and military operations overseas, not to mention dark whispers of a rendition program to a remote island off the Terranean Coast. The PC(s) will be organizing various events such as protests, speeches, rallies, and generally being very loud. You will also get a contact high walking within 300 yards of the park.

Visiting delegates of ambassadorial or ministerial rank will be put up at the five-star Grand Hotel Megapol, the largest surviving hotel to have been built pre-communism, in an Art Nouveau style. Staffers will have to do make to do with the nearest EkonoHvarf. And who will those visiting delegates be? Though the conference claims no official status, a standing invite has been put out to any interested Rushmori nation at attend as a principal, and any other interested non-Rushmori nation (including pan-regional organizations such as the CE) as observers. Observers will have full speaking rights on the floor of the conference but no vote on the final agreement (if one is reached). On the final day of the Conference, the PC(s) will be organizing their biggest rally: if your national leaders share their cynicism about the project and won’t be attending the Conference, you can instead assume they’ve been given a speaking slot at the rally.

An approximate schedule, bending the 4th wall a little, is as follows:

First week of February: Arrivals
Delegates arrive in Altendalur and are taken to their lodgings. There will be a welcoming reception. Any heads of state will be greeted by the Prime Minister, any royalty by Princess Jessika, everyone else by Foreign Minister Brynjúlfur Brynjarsson. The Conference will have some sort of deeply, deeply cringe opening ceremony, and then delegates can make opening remarks. In the spirit of a conference focusing on sustainability and responsible resource use, there will be a lavish dinner for the invited dignitaries.

Second week of February: Conference begins
The issues to be discussed will be agreed upon and initial policy proposals made. There will be yet more lavish dinners in order to ensure the hard working dignitaries are up to the difficult task facing them.

Third week of February: Draft agreement proposed
A draft agreement will be circulated for comment and amendment. Other delegates can also produce drafts. Dinners will continue until morale improves.

Fourth week of February: Agreement voted on
Final speeches, concluding remarks, angry recriminations, and, perhaps, an agreement, which will be voted on. No one will be obliged to be held to anything they do not agree to. Possibly time for one final big dinner.

If we run out of stuff to do this schedule will be condensed!

While the above largely imagines a state-level undertaking, there is also the opportunity for business to be involved. Throughout the conference, at Convention Site C (Site B was, regrettably, overrun with genetically reincarnated dinosaurs) there will be a World’s Green Fair event. Companies offering green technologies, renewable energy technologies, or just finding a way to make a buck out of all this, can run a stall, sponsor an event, or make a pitch.

Any other collaboration is also welcome so long as the OOC rules below are followed.

1. Græntfjall has invested substantially in counterterrorism and policing. No terrorist attacks, military attacks, buttbuttinations, or otherwise causing death or damage to anyone or anything in attending. Forceful beating of desks with shoes permitted.

2. The Conference will run on fluid time. It can be assumed to last only a few days, perhaps a long weekend, in IC terms, but will (conveniently) span the length of World Cup qualifying, or, at least as long as we can be bothered to write it, in OOC terms. There is no urgent haste to post every day so if you want to drop in/out you can.

3. None of us are environmental lawyers and we’re not aiming for a work of technical sophistication here. Græntfjall exists in the year 2032 and this conference will assume a broadly MT+ framework. Different perspectives are valid but literal magic, highly futuristic sci-fi, and other such fantastical technologies will have to stay on the sidelines.

4. If you’re in Rushmore and don’t want to participate or even acknowledge the conference you are free to ignore it. It claims no official status or canon. If you’re not in the World Cup and still want to participate, you’re very welcome to do so. I will try to collate relevant RPs into a Google Doc.

A Speech from the Manager

This was it. It was finally happening. Kenji looked over the team standing before him. Only a week stood between them and their first ever World Cup game. After an unlucky performance in the Baptism of Fire, being knocked out on a tiebreaker, his team seemed to have lost their mojo slightly. It was up to him to help them find their confidence in time for the World Cup. Eying them each critically, he nodded, seemingly satisfied with what he saw.
"Listen up." The squad stopped their training and jogged over to where he stood on the touchline, "We have just over a week until the World Cup."
At this the players all let out small whoops and cheers. Kenji let them enjoy their celebrations, then waved his hand for silence.
"I know we are all excited, and of course nervous as well?" Nods came from several of the team, "And the timing isn't the best, since we are loosing some of our substitutes to the Under-18 World Cup as well, but we will push through. We are a small nation, yes, but we have the power to do incredible things. We may not have the biggest stadiums, or finest training grounds, but you know what we do have? Talent! There is pure talent in this squad, and no amount of money or fame can get you talent in your national squad. We are playing for pride boys. For Obrela, and glory!"
He was roaring now, and his players cheered, real proper whoops! They broke away, still chattering about Kenji's stirring speech.
Spotting Hana Chasey, Kenji took the opportunity to pull him to the side, "Now you listen here H. I wasn't happy with that stunt you pulled at the Baptism. Just know that if you try that one more time, you'll be dropped from the national team, permanently. You understand?"
He nodded, and Kenji released him, watching him jog across the training pitch towards his teammates.

FEDEQ sells Emperor Burger to Silverthorn's approved consortium

Federal Equity Group (FEDEQ), a government investment arm sold its entire equity interest in Emperor Burger to a Local consortium endorsed by Silverthorn's Holdings Group (Silverthorn's) for $95 million. Following the sale of fast food restaurants (QSR) in Emperor Burger's portfolio which includes Stevencousin and Chandelier Group, FEDEQ sealed a share sale agreement with the Local consortium that was signed by Silverthorn's Holdings Group (Silverthorn's) today. The move to sell is a follow-up to a comprehensive restructuring of FEDEQ's food and beverage (F&B) portfolio. FEDEQ in fact today said the consortium concerned was selected on merit after a thorough sales process was carried out, which has attracted the interest of four local and international parties. According to FEDEQ, the consortium that was approved by Silverthorn's presented the best and most competitive offer in terms of price, financial resources, operational capabilities, and stability of social objectives, including ownership of Local.

"This release recorded a negative gross internal return rate (IRR) of 21 percent and the amount of investment received back was 0.64 times the capital invested through the two funds," said FEDEQ, following this fact. FEDEQ owns 95 percent equity in Emperor Burger Stevencousin and acquired a 100 percent interest in Emperor Burger Chandelier Group progressively in 2017 and 2018. Following that fact, the decision to reorganize the F&B portfolio was made after conducting a detailed review of FEDEQ F&B portfolio and assuming that the QSR trade required additional financial investment and operational efforts to redevelop the range of branches to achieve profitability. "The portfolio restructuring exercise will allow FEDEQ and (its) F&B company, Instant Foodies Group (IFG) to put a special focus on and develop the casual food restaurant segment and confectionery and beverage franchises under various brands such as Bell Pizza's, Snowpeak and ExCafe. ,” he said.

Reviewing this development, the Chief Executive Officer of FEDEQ, Larry Sellforth, said that his party was happy because, after five years of operation, interest sales activities were now running smoothly and trying to realize returns. "The restructuring of FEDEQ' F&B portfolio will allow us to further expand our casual food restaurant business, namely Bell Pizza's, Snowpeak, and our recently launched brand, Farm Beef, as well as provide focus on the development of the ExCafe series," he said. Collectively, the brand casual food restaurant and confectionery franchise under IFG has a combined revenue of $280.1 million and currently has 407 branches in Stevencousin and across the region. With the announcement of the release activity, FEDEQ will collect revenue totaling $640.4 million once the process is finalized and is expected to continue posting exciting financial results for the current year.

NSWC 93 - First RP - A look into Chittorgarh Capital Club

Postby Pratapgadh » Tue Jan 31, 2023 4:16 am

NOTE: Text in
box
is the host Devarsh Singhania's narration

Fire Network presents
Videsi Khel (Foreign Game)
Episode One - Chittorgarh Capital Club

Football, though a foreign sport, almost seems to be ingrained in Pratapgadh's cultural and political history. It took years for it to be finally played on Pratapgadhi land, but it sure left a mark.
My name is Devarsh Singhania and I will be taking you on a journey that explores the football culture of Pratapgadh.

Here I am in Chittorgarh, the capital of Pratapgadh, the largest city, the pride of this great kingdom. As I wait at the airport for my taxi, I notice the advertisements on the electronic boards. "United vs Capital! Kaunsa Sarvashreshtr?! (Who's The Best?!)" Football sure has come a long way as this is a nation mostly crazy about cricket. Things have changed quite a bit here for football since the 'isolation period' enforced a decade ago by our current king Rana Ram Singh II. When the 'isolation period' first started, football was still quite unpopular owing to the demise of our first national football team in a plane crash and just a lack of interest in general. Thanks to the efforts of the Pratapgadh Football Association to promote the game, however, football gradually grew in those ten years. Today, the football culture of Pratapgadh is much richer than ever.

Though football is much more prominent now, its history goes back decades. When football was first introduced to Pratapgadh in the early 1900s by the British, it was deemed inferior by the royals of Pratapgadh due to their hatred of the British monarchy. However, the new king Rana Bhairav Singh III had a particular interest in the sport. Despite his father's objection, Rana Bhairav Singh III organised his own team which played against a team of British soldiers. This was the first time football was played on Pratapgadhi land.

Today, however, I wanted you to meet someone special. The taxi soon arrived and I was off to this 'special' man's residence.

The taxi guy greets Singhania and picks up his luggage. After putting the luggage away, he gets in his car and drives off. During the drive, the beautiful scenery of the city is shown thoroughly. Singhania looks over to his side to see a parade of Chittorgarh Capital Club fans, which brings a smile to his face, Soon the taxi arrives at the front of a old Rajputani-style house. Singhania gets out of the taxi and takes a good look at the house, admiring the beautiful architecture in front of him. A man in his mid thirties comes out of the house to greet Singhania. Singha exclaims "Namaskar Ramesh Ji! (Hello Mr Ramesh!)". Singhania hugs him tightly.*Camera pointing to Ramesh*
This is Ramesh Chauhan, grandson of Umesh Chauhan who founded the Chittorgarh Capital Club. Chittorgarh Capital Club was said to be founded in the 1910s, only a decade after football was first played in this country. It is by far the oldest recorded club in this country. The club played its very first match against Rana Bhairav Singh III's team, it was a friendly match.

We cut to next scene where Ramesh Chauhan is looking through a bunch of old boxes of cassettes. Ramesh looks at each cassette and explains them to Singhania.
You could really see the football fan in his eyes when he looks over his cassettes. That kid in him has never grown up.

Ramesh grabs a few cassettes and heads over to his home theatre along with Singhania. They both sit down once Ramesh sets up the home theatre. The following were old recordings of the early days of the Chittorgarh Capital Club. The recordings included multiple goals made by Umesh Chauhan as a striker and the team celebrating on the streets of Chittorgarh.
I'm sure I saw joyful tears of Ramesh Chauhan.

Ramesh says "These were some of the good times of my grandfather when the club first started. He was a rich businessman who loved this sport. Till the 1950s, our club played other teams in friendlies as back in that time we never had tournaments. We just kept a track of wins, loses and ties each year to see which was the best club and Chittorgarh Capital Club always came out on top." Ramesh laughs and looks back at the screen, which shows Umesh scoring his tenth hat trick. The video continues as Singhania starts narrating again.
During Umesh Chauhan's reign as captain which lasted for ten years, Chittorgarh Capital Club completely dominated the football scene. In it first year, the team played fifteen friendlies and won fourteen of them, only losing to the King's Club (Rana Bhairav Singh III's team). It was the same for the second year, winning fourteen of fifteen friendlies. In its third year, however, new teams emerged to challenge the beast that was Chittorgarh Capital Club. No one stood a chance in front of Umesh Chauhan though, as his team managed to win all twenty they played in their third year. For the next seven years, Chittorgarh Capital Club won 90% of their friendlies against many clubs even beyond the borders of Chittorgarh City. The club was recognised and honoured by Rana Bhairav Singh III for its great accomplishments such as being undefeated for three years straight.

Ramesh Chauhan says "They truly were the best team out there, they did have an early start with the game compared to others, but their athleticism was unmatched." Ramesh then got up from his seat to take Singhania to his 'Hall of Fame'. This room included pictures of Umesh Chauhan, Ramesh's father Himesh Chauhan and many extraordinary people who played for Chittorgarh Capital Club like Lankesh Talati. The room was highly decorated, almost as if it belonged to a king's palace.
Lankesh Talati he highest goal scorer of 1928 according to Chittorgarh Football Control. His performance against teams like Jackson Eleven where he scored four goals on his own earned him loads of respect from both Pratapgadhis and Britishers. The 1930s saw the lower classes also engaging in the game of football with teams such as Loha Gyaara, a team of blacksmiths and Dangal FC, a team of wrestlers turned footballers. Even during this period, Chittorgarh Capital Club remained the strongest of all and became famous not just in the state of Rajputana, but in Gujarat and Maratha Pradesa as well. Chittorgarh Capital Club toured the state of Gujarat, where they defeated FC Jatayu of Suryapur and Hanuman Dal of Veernagar. The story gets more interesting in the 1940s.

Ramesh stops in front of a picture where his father is seen hugging another man. Ramesh exclaims "Ah! You probably know him! That's Mohan Krishna Ji. He was good friends with my father until he went rogue." Singhania stares at the picture as he remembers the story. *Cuts to an empty room with a chair* A man walks over to the chair and takes a seat before speaking, "Khamma Ghani ("Hello" in Rajasthani language), I'm Jagdeesh Ajayameri. I'm a sports historian and a professor at Chittorgarh University. Great to be here to talk about a legendary club like Chittorgarh Capital Club." Clips of Himesh and Mohan playing together for Chittorgarh Capital Club are shown as Jagdeesh narrates "This story of their once strong friendship is quite important is because it lead to the creation of Capital Club's biggest rival to date, Chittorgarh United." A clip of Chittorgarh United fans hollering in the stands is shown. Jagdeesh continues, "Himesh and Mohan first met when they played a game against Shivnagar Colony Club around 1945. They started off as mere acquaintances. However, as they grew up together, they bonded even more. Unfortunately, Mohan was from a lower-middle-class family while Himesh had a richer background. But that didn't stop the two from keeping their friendship."
Football was starting to develop further as an organizing body was founded by James Harrison and Aaryan Srivastava called 'National Football Association'. Himesh Chauhan and Mohan Krishna planned on registering the club to compete in NFA events. However, one day, Mohan and Himesh had a argument which ended their friendship. No one really knows what happened between them.

Ramesh says "It just happened one day and then my father went on to register Chittorgarh Capital Club in the NFA. But Mohan was no more part of the team. Just a few days later, when I was at the NFA office with my father, Mohan Ji came in, staring directly at my father. He went to the front guy of the reception and went 'I want to register my team'. That's how Chittorgarh United came to be." Ramesh again looks back at the picture of his father and Mohan and their happy faces.
Since that event, the two clubs have always been at odds. The rivalry between them is still known as the 'Chittorgarh Yudh (Navabhasha or Hindi for 'War'.)' Chittorgarh United is still called the 'rogue club' by many Capital Club fans to this day.

In the centre of the room, stood the most elegant trophy on a table, the NFA Cup. Singhania went to have a closer look, and Ramesh says "Be careful, it's quite precious and kept safe for generations now. Haha." *Cuts to Ramesh sitting in his room facing the camera* Ramesh says "The NFA Cup was the first time such a competition existed in Pratapgadh. This time we had a knockout bracket where the best clubs... that were registered with the NFA... would compete in the tournament. The first edition had 16 clubs and we ended up winning that. The second edition expanded to 24 clubs where we had qualifiers and such and the winner of that tournament..." *Scene cuts to Jagdeesh Ajayameri* Jagdeesh says "... Chittorgarh United"
Chittorgarh Capital Club ended up losing in the finals against their arch-rivals, which caused an uproar among fans. No one expected Mohan's team to defeat the mighty Capital Club. Though this was a sign in the shift of power.

From the 1960s, Chittorgarh United started dominating the local circuit and challenged Chittorgarh Capital Club's position. This also led to CCC talents like centre forward Vishnuroop Singh to switch to United. By the end of 1980s, both Chittorgarh Capital Club and Chittorgarh United had won three NFA Cups each until NFA was dissolved in 1989. Since then the clubs had returned to playing in local leagues and playing friendlies in other states.

Jagdeesh adjusts his seat and sits up excitedly and says, "But then comes the Pratapgadh Super Cup! First time since the NFA did Pratapgadh had a proper competition for clubs... only issue... they didn't the existing clubs."
The Pratapgadh Football Association decided it was best to start new clubs for the Super Cup instead of including clubs that have been around for a long time. This move was heavily criticised by many clubs, sports experts and die-hard fans. So after the first season, the PFA finally decided to also include well-established clubs and created a more inclusive environment for them. Chittorgarh Capital Club and many other clubs like them finally got the exposure they needed.

Ramesh, still on the sofa, says "Our fanbase increased dramatically once they learned about our history. Football was finally making a proper comeback and was more ingrained in Pratapgadh sporting culture than ever! The Super League has been beneficial for football and avid fans. Things didn't turn out too well for us though..." Ramesh went silent. Clips are played next showing Chittorgarh Capital Club facing defeats against Chittorgarh United, their terrible performances in a few seasons and a tv announcer saying "Chittorgarh Capital Club have been relegated to The Challenger League!"

Singhania looks at the camera and says, "What went wrong with Chittorgarh Capital Club? The once great club is now a former shadow of itself. Join me in the next episode to find out what went wrong and what the future hold for the men in White and Blue"
End of Episode 1

KATANIJA , NATIONAL STADIUM : BLUE OYSTER

Katanija is the capital of DR Srednjaci. It is also the largest city in the country. Economic, political and military center. Katanija has the strongest financial sector in the country and also has the most universities.
Image Image

KATANIJA is the capital with 19,000,000 inhabitants.
It is the seat of government and the economic center of DR Srednjaci.
Katanija is first mentioned 600 years ago when in a storm merchants from the north strayed and came across the settlement.
Katanija in the old language means "enter". The language barrier actually gave the settlement its name. The merchant knocked on the door and asked the host what the name of this place was, and the host replied with a smile, "Katanija = come in," thinking that the merchant was asking him if he could take shelter from the rain.
Katanija began to develop later with the establishment of a trading post and an administrative building. With the arrival of the scholar Don Bernard Rivić, the first high school was established.
Peoples from the east also immigrated to Katanija, bringing with them other crafts such as glassmaking and goldsmithing.
The development of Katanija briefly stopped the pre-medieval war of the peoples of the Far East. After a siege of the city that lasted 6 weeks, the city surrendered to the khanata of Wei Xu.
Due to the disease of his troops and lack of food, the Easterners withdrew back to their Changxi empire.
Katania moved forward to a new war. King Dalat 2 established the Central Kingdom of Dalatia and declared Katanija the capital. He built a magnificent palace, today it is a museum and cultural heritage, a tourist attraction.
After the unification of all the slanders, Katanija briefly lost its position, but after the civil war and the establishment of the Republic, Katanija regained its position as the capital.
Katanija is the only city in DR Srednjaci that has two civilian airports.
It is located in the southeast of the country towards the border of today's Saint Shokai.
To the north are the slopes of the mountain Bijeli Vrh and to the south is Lake Bulat.
The river Modra flows through the town itself, which springs on the slopes of the mountain and flows into the sea.
The river Modra is navigable, so it transports goods and people.
In addition to the nearby mountain, on the east side are wooded hills and a national nature park.
Hikers, recreationists and mountaineers love to stay in these hills. The mountain lodges offer original food and drinks and the nature park has limited access to people so as not to disturb the biodiversity and ecosystem.

KULA

KULA GOLDEN EYE STADIUM

Kula is a city that is developing very quickly. The discovery of large quantities of natural gas gave the city a big boost in development. Furthermore, the metal industry as well as the chemical industry keep this city in a high fifth place in our country when it comes to GDP per capita. Kula have 2.540,000 inhabitants.
Despite the accelerated industrial development and construction of the city, the city has major problems with transportation.
The new city bus has not yet been completed and the roads are congested. Parts of the city literally stand still during rush hour. City leaders are struggling to solve the traffic problem.
When it comes to the city center, traffic is limited there only for buses, trams, delivery vehicles, police and emergency services vehicles. Around the center itself, there are more than 36 underground garages for tenants and guests in the center.
The city offers a lot of different contents, museums, galleries, restaurants and night clubs.

Kirungan Delegation to Attend Rushmori Climate Conference

IMISOZI - The Presidential Office has confirmed that an official delegation led by President Innocent Uburiganya and First Lady Musabyimana will travel to Altendalur, Græntfjall, in light of the upcoming CORNCOB regional convention on environmental affairs. The event, claims the President, is a prime opportunity to lay out Kirungabi's environmental concerns in front of a crowd of official delegates and regional powers, while also reaffirming the country's commitment to green and sustainable development in diverse areas such as agriculture, energy, mining, and even the manufacturing sector.

"Kirungabi is a country rich in biodiversity in its jungle and rain-forest ecosystems," the President explains, "so it's very clear that conservation efforts and limiting human environmental impact are matters at the forefront of our development strategy. In 23 years, the Kirungabi Development Front has successfully made strides in the right direction on these issues: we restarted okapi conservation efforts, safeguarded the Vilima and Igimbakirwa Natural Reserves from the threats of poaching and illicit trade, and begun projects to produce clean and renewable energy from the resources we have available, without sacrificing development targets."

A gargantuan development challenge faced Kirungabi at the end of the Kirungan Civil War: the value of the mikopo was virtually zero, life expectancy had reached an all time low of just 23 years, and less than 40% of the population had access to electricity owing to infrastructure damage — all of this compounded by the loss of life and brain drain inflicted by the genocide, and the millions of internally-displaced persons scattered across the country. Since 1999, however, comprehensive development programs implemented by the Kirungabi Development Front have drastically transformed the country into a modern and forward-thinking state. In addition to vast improvements in indicators such as life expectancy, access to sanitation and healthcare, and literacy rates, increased confidence in the government of President Innocent Uburiganya enabled Kirungabi to secure foreign funding for projects such as road improvement and electricity microgeneration. These schemes, President Uburiganya believes, are the key to Kirungabi's value as a regional player in sustainable development.

"One of the greatest achievements of modern Kirungabi is how we have successfully found a way to reliably utilize our natural resources," the President says. "Access to electricity and clean water have been greatly expanded across the country thanks to our electricity microgeneration scheme: many villages on the banks of Lake Uruforo have small-scale siphons, which they can use to extract methane from the lake. This gas is used to fuel their generators and vehicles, and the surplus gas they don't use can be exported inland to their benefit." President Uburiganya also cites advancements in local production of biofuel using renewable organic matter as another landmark example of Kirungabi's sustainable development — but he emphasizes that none of these schemes would be possible without foreign backing.

"Kirungabi remains a poor country," the President admits. "Foreign aid after the war was useful to lift us out from the depths of hell and get us on our feet, but we know that this aid is not forever. Fortunately, we have made big progress in improving the confidence in our government in the past 23 years, which leads us to believe that cooperation between Kirungan businesses and foreign companies is a very real possibility." Through this cooperation, President Uburiganya assures that Kirungabi's development targets can be met quicker and more efficiently, without sacrificing the benefit offered to ordinary Kirungans.

Image

To this end, Kirungan public-private energy company Enténer S.A. (Enterprise énergétique du Kirungabi) will be among the businesses present at the World's Green Fair in Convention Site C, showcasing Kirungabi's vital small-scale methane generators, biomass storage containers, and biofuel production units in a display of the country's progress — and in search of crucial investment.

Srubnayan News

Postby Srubnaya culture » Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:02 pm

Srubnaya National News Association

Sports News
The world cup was finally here. After successfully beating the wildfires that ravaged the country for soo many days. The spirits were still high as people expected a similar performance to the BOF. The team had been training and Vladimir ivanov had mentioned how ready they were on social media.

All that was needed was for fans to buy their tickets and head to the stadiums. Which the government payed 25,000 people to do with some money received in their aid package from the United States. With everyone's spirits high it seemed like Srubnaya would be doing good this year. The match schedules will be announced when the games start on the football sports channel and hundreds of thousands would surely be watching.

Politics
In Political news the President of Srubnaya finally managed to get Vladimir Putin and Zelensky into the same room for peace talks in Sevastopol. The undisclosed location is heavily guarded by Srubnayan Military officers and soldiers though. The demands from both sides have been taken into account and the Srubnayan president has presented both sides with a possible peace agreement. The war may be over by Valentines Day if everything goes according to plan.

The countdown to the next elections are also underway, with only 12 months until the next elections roll around. However the dominant party could very well be overthrown this year by the prodigies who have been leading the effort to reform civil and economic policy via political lobbying and their positions in the courts. These confederation elections for 2024 race can most certainly see the end of the 50 yearlong Tharus dynasty and with it the end of an age in Srubnayan history. Only time will tell however.

National Happenings/Econmics
The wildfires have finally stopped after massive efforts by Srubnayan Firefighters. The total death count stands at 2000 while the amount of people effected stands just under 750,000. A huge portion of the Crimean population indeed. This could cause an econimic crisis if affirmiatve action is not taken by political leaders in order to circumvent the worse effects, however only time will tell.

In other news the governmental Budget has finally been revealed. With the military reciving a whopping 5% increase bringing its total to 8%. This could be due to the agressive tendances of NATO countries like turkey, and The neighboring Russia and Ukraine, but whatever the reason, it should be noted this is coming out of your social security check. The GDP report also came out today with new estimates placing the Srubnaya Confederation's GDP at 25 billion USD (100 Billion Srubnayan tetradrachms) which is a 15% growth from last year, although this number may be lower currently due to the fire damage as the report was in the works 4 weeks before the fires.

✣CANZARIA QUOTIDIANO✣

THINGS TO TAKE FROM THE INDEPENDENTS CUP CAMPAIGN FOR THE UPCOMING WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Image
The team's goal is to have a respectable group stage campaign

In an Independents Cup campaign that could be described as unfairly cut short, the team performed in some way that could be considered beneficial in the long run. Within the entirety of the group stage, it proved to be a tough nut to crack for all teams, whether in a win or not. Here at Canzaria Quotidiano, we would like to present you what is to be expected out of the team in this World Cup 93 qualifiers campaign.

No changes, same problems: While the team found net for the majority of its games, effectiveness in the backline was a constant issue, conceding in every single matchday the team was involved in. This stems from the fact that De Casio, the team's coach comes from offense-oriented Juvencus and is trying to instill a more offensive attitude to his players which is problematic when it comes to his small backline which is forced to cover up large expanses of the defence and maintain a relatively high pressure line, which is something more experienced teams will take advantadge of. Using rough and strong players in the backline proves to be very difficult using this tactic especially when only one of them is actually fast and able to recapture a lost position consistently. De Casio would be better off switching up the backline a little bit, but considering these players come from the very top of Osci football, this might prove to be very difficult for the time being.

Now is when it gets real: While the Independents Cup was a good testing ground for the team's tactics, truth be told it is not exactly the most talent-packed place in the multiverse which is something we need to deal with. With that said, only Juvencus is an established multiversal team in our group and even they lost to Belnegau which are nobodies in the grand scheme of things, aside from that, they are a team that has only succeeded in the Cup of Harmony and have barely qualified for 2 World Cups ever in their history(Finishing 3rd this Independents Cup was their best ever run as well!). What this means is that La Nazionale will be pitied against some of the crème de la crème of the multiverse during the qualifications which will give us a feeling of how elite football is meant to be played. With that said, this should be serving more as a learning experience for our team as it is finally getting the guts to reintroduce itself to the multiverse. So keeping expectations low and manageable should be the goal.

De Casio is optimistc however: A recent press conference with Roberto De Casio showed a sense of optimism from his part. As the world cup qualifiers have moved from near the end of the season to being played during the season's gaps in the start and middle of it, players are legtimately seeing signs of growth unprecedented by Osci standards before. With that said, De Casio has acknowledged such development taking place throught this cycle by seeing his players' performances with their domestic clubs in their respective leagues and the likelihood of said development translating into great team synergy, which is what is most needed. These words of reassurance were also echoed by multiple Osci pundits, namely Alvaro Ramirez of Colparaiso Sports Uncovered and Raul Inzaghi of Afternoon Sports Canzaria.

One thing is for certain though, this will be the most exciting cycle of Osci football in history, since the biggest name of Osci football will be making a name for themselves but most importantly, the nation. With the group stage draw in the horizon, we will be coming back to you with more news as well as the necessary predictions and we will be breaking down the squads La Nazionale will be facing and their most recent history in multiversal sport.

The Beaucester Gazette
Massi's 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse
Selections, Fans, Dave Norris and Ample Alternatives

Benni Massi is hanging by a thread. This was clear enough after an underwhelming exit from the 17th Independents Cup, one so poor that despite having the home advantage, the defeat to Oscioru not only occurred, but did so in such a manner as to not garner a mention in their press. But, as we head into qualifying, the threats to his position are starting to sharpen. Massi has managed to skate by so far, but the factors in his favour are ebbing and those against him are starting to flow.

Throughout his tenure, Massi has had three arrows in his quiver. First, the team were in dire straits after an abominable Independents Cup campaign, he was the only candidate available who could promise a significant shift in methods to aid the national team to succeed. Of the other candidates, Paul Reynard then cut off any chances of moving for his role later through the Albion fiasco, where he barred his own players from the Baptism of Fire and destroyed his reputation in the eyes of the Football Federation.

Leading from this is his second plus, the big improvement in results across the last World Cup Qualifying campaign. Elmyia managed some decent results and looked less overawed on the international stage, including a string of creditable draws and a 6-0 thrashing of Darkmania. This was pulled up as in his favour during subsequent struggles, he had at least proved an ability to manage the nation team successfully.

Finally, he benefited from a slightly apathetic fanbase, one with low expectations and little in the way of demonstrable passion. It helps that a lot of fans for the national side follow a team besides the big 2, who are often kept away from the national side as they don't wish to approach the other's stadium. Consequently, most fans have not seen their team win anything, they're used to valorising average players for purple patches of form, for liking managers who create a few memorable displays and avoid embarrassment. This has, so far, been very good preparation for fans of the national side, quietly clapping along and stoically putting up with some absolute dross.

Conditions now have shifted, some selection decisions are coming in for scrutiny and fans are getting more vocal out in public. Behind the scenes, the new FF Technical Director Dave Norris, who rose to the job in odd circumstances, is known to not be impressed with Massi's work and there are a list of alternatives emerging to put the former Scolastico coach under pressure.

Out in public and fans seem determined to shift the atmosphere and demand more. They've now sat through one average qualifying campaign and 4 group stage exits from international tournaments. A small group of ultras have certainly played a role, and they've been trying to put in foundations for a more passionate atmosphere at national team game, including efforts to get a new National Team only stadium greenlit. Additionally, factors are conspiring to raise fans' aspirations. The under-21s run in the Di Bradini Cup is uprooting some notions around the low quality of Elmyian footballers, giving some fans hope that more can be done. Secondly, the Rugby team's decent form, despite it being a sport with few players, is again making fans question just why this can't be done with the national side?

Massi's dictatorial selection policy, and his favourites, are starting to be called into question. His removal of Phoebe Harris, Carlo Beluigi and Angelo Bernardini have remained unquestioned to date, but some are starting to hope there might be a route back for some of those he has excluded. Beluigi comes off a good season at the domestic level, and with the switch to a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation muted there should be room for him back in the starting lineup. Beluigi has 20 caps for the national team, scoring 4 goals in his time there. Harris, meanwhile, had a strong end to the season with Mosfleet Albion as they won the Island Trophy, plus her return of 3 assists in 10 caps doesn't look too shabby now. Massi's propensity to cast certain players into the wilderness seemed a powerful tool at club level, but the national team, where you can't buy in alternatives, might be the wrong environment.

The real factors close to pushing him out the job, however, are more behind the scenes. David Norris has come in as Technical Director, meaning the team behind the scenes that invested Massi has moved oni. He is known to be looking to move the national side towards a more attacking brand of football as he believes it more likely to enthuse fans and build some momentum behind them. Whilst he's not called for the managers head at any point, in his prior career as a fan of the team he does have a track record of negative public pronouncements on the gaffer, it will be interesting to see just how many poor results he could tolerate.

One thing that could drive Norris towards calling for a replacement would be the availability of alternatives. When Massi came in, it was just between him and Paul Reynard, who then shot himself in the foot and went thoroughly out of contention for the job. Now, however, several managers have distinguished themselves as potential alternatives, here are the top 5 from the worst odds, to the best.

5. Paul Reynard - 30/1

Can they forget the burnt bridges? Reynard seemed to put an end to any potential future as Elmyia manager when he banned his own players from the national team. It took an injunction from the FF to force him to release his players, and he's come in for some fairly stringent criticism from figures high up in the game.

The change in management behind the scenes has improved his odds immensely, even if Albion's struggles this year have tarnished his reputation somewhat. Since arriving in 2008 he's managed his side to a tranche of trophies. In his first season, the league was already gone, making it two seasons without, but he rallied the side to win the Island Trophy that year. He won the league for the next three seasons in a row, and managed them to a treble in 2009/10. The last three seasons, however, have started to look a little bit barren. He has now gone three seasons without a league title, the 2012/13 season being devoid of honours. This season seemed to be the one he was staking his hopes on, with a strong, deep squad to take on all three competitions. They endured their worst league season in a decade, struggling for points in the first half of the season, he was then able to turn them around in the second, coming back to prevent an Italia treble by winning the Island Trophy.

He would be an unlikely choice now given his history, but he retains a big following and is the pre-eminent 'proper football man' about.

4. The Elder Coach of Epvalle - 25/1

The elder coach's odds would be significantly shorter had he not already ruled himself retired after the Di Bradini Cup. That he went along for that was surprise enough in itself, it had a heavy whiff of one last job for the veteran. Yet he has coached the side to a level of success few thought they could achieve. They now go into the final against Abanhfleft having beaten Rushmori giants Græntfjall and Valladares, putting in performances that have stirred something in Elmyian fans.

He is popular with most as well for his lack of a 'wanky' tactical approach. He talks rarely in public, and what we have heard has focused on mentality and creating an environment in which the players can perform to their best level possible. This simplified approach has been incredibly successful, with Elmyia's youth players in the form of their life. It's understood the FF would probably love to appoint him, particularly in the hope of having someone who can start to bed the talented under-21s into the squad. He's unlikely to take it, but it would be a massive coup for all involved if he was.

3. Xanthi Kostis - 9/2

Kostis has impressed most in a short space of time. She came into the AS Samita job 3 years ago, a side that had historically underperformed despite sitting in one of the few areas of Mosfleet not in the orbit of one of the big clubs, and turned them around. After two seasons she steered the team to promotion with a record haul of goals, bringing through George Byng and Lara Beaugemont, who have thrilled for them. Mia Benoit was then plucked from the obscurity of the then amateur third tier to finish what was to be the deadliest trident in the country.

Kostis then took a team some thought might struggle with the rigours of the first division and delivered the most memorable debut season most have ever witnessed. The team took a high-pressing, high-octane approach that provided some incredibly exciting contests and a series of memorable defeats, including defeats of Albion and Italia. She is by far the most exciting coach to have emerged from a tactical perspective.

The points counting against her are inexperience, and doubts around the sustainability of her approach for a bigger team. She has managed a total of three seasons, which follows a playing career that only made a two season foray into the top tier with the doomed Diepfleet Marine and Chipping Sersbrek sides. Additionally, some wonder if the approach that has served her well as an underdog will work after teams have seen it once, she might need to wait her turn.

2. Paula Kidd - 2/1

Should Massi get the sack, Paula Kidd should be in the frame on one condition. It all depends on how the under-18s perform at their respective World Cup. Kidd has plenty of credit in the bank from the creditable campaign in the last edition of the competition, but a poor performance in the Rushmori youth tournament has dented her reputation somewhat.

Kidd, however, has always been an intelligent, tactically astute coach who inspires a high degree of respect in her charges. She will expect to do well in the under-18s tournament again given the resources at her disposal. The FF would be inclined to go for her should they sack Massi, especially given that she understands the national setup, knows the players well and the pathway. She would do a lot to bring through the promising youth products that she knows well into the national team.

1. Alfredo Servetto - 3/2

Servetto comes off a successful season at Italia, and this is swinging odds in his favour. This is likely inflating them somewhat, the FF might not be as likely to go for him as they would for a candidate who is more tuned into the national team setup and one with more experience. As a coach he has about 8 years of experience now, his first job was with Beaucester Rovers where he started in 2007. He oversaw 2 promotions and a relegation before being poached by AS Catamouge in 2012. He had just one uneventful season there before Varisco's departure to the national team saw Italia snap him up to fill the void.

At Italia he's been fairly successful, winning 4 trophies out of 6, including the two league titles. This season saw him chasing the clubs first treble since 1990, however they were denied at the last by Albion. He generally puts the focus on his players, saying little about his methods, but he's clearly organised the squad well and knows how to grind out results.

He would have the benefit of knowing the Italia players very well, in addition to having given Benedetti his first senior start when he was at AS Catamouge. He would be likely to be interviewed should Massi get the sack, but it remains to be seen if he would be poached ahead of Kidd should she continue to do well in her existing role.

A New Hope
The knock on the door made Hannah’s heart jump, and it felt like it almost lodged itself in her throat. She quickly surveyed the room to search for any item that could potentially serve as a weapon. She settled for the nightstand lamp, unplugged it and slowly moved towards the door. There was another knock. Not the aggressive kind, but of course you could count on a Rock Lodge assassin to trick their marks with gentle knocks, and she would not be fooled again. She squeezed herself in a little nook by the side of the door. From there she could remain out of sight for her assailant and at the same time, it was an ideal position for launching an attack and bludgeoning her would-be killer from behind.

Yet another knock, a little more insistent this time, and Hannah called out “Come on in, it’s open” and tightened her grip. The door slowly creaked open and she saw a dark figure swipe pass her. She didn’t hesitate - she had learned the hard way that it could come with a great price - and lunged out swinging her lamp like it was the famous burning scythe of the A Song of Slab and Gravel saga. It wasn’t a perfect hit, and not even a decent one, but it worked well enough and the hooded figure fell and knocked his head on a bedpost on the way down. Hannah kept a firm grip on the lamp and tried to stop hyperventilating. The mysterious man laid still on the floor. Unconscious? Hannah approached with caution and kicked him lightly. No reaction. She came in closer and removed the hood. It came as quite a shock when she realized it was Øystein, her estranged husband.

An hour later, Øystein had awoken, and he and Hannah sat across from each other at a rickety table by the hotel room window. It was overlooking the sea, and would have been a fine view on any other day. Not so today. The vastness of the ocean brought back ugly memories and bad blood. Øystein abandoning the family to play pirate, Hannah and her brothers staging Øystein’s mock execution. The silence between them was palpable. After a while Øystein started speaking, mostly because the silence was so heavy to bear, and he kept it at pleasantries. Hannah responded in kind, but the bizarreness of their situation was like a wet blanket and the conversation was awkward and stilted. It was like they were each trying to find the right words to say after all that after water under oh so many bridges.

They ordered up some food and ate double servings of pork pancakes in silence. When they had finished, Hannah looked Øystein in the eyes and asked him what he was really doing there, and he answered that he had been sent to kill her, but quickly added that he had no intention of carrying out his mission. He spoke at length about what he had learned of The Lodge, the Onslaught, the deep and sinister networks crisscrossing the upper echelons of both Baggieland and The Union and his time with Guru. Hannah listened intently, and when he had finished she started sharing her own experiences, being held captive by the Rock Lodge deep in The Interior, the involvement of high-ranking government and Constabulary officials, scary assassins, poor Jakob, and her escape. They quickly realized how intermingled their stories were, and also that they were likely the only ones outside of the criminal lodge cabal who knew the truth. They also both agreed that Killer Bob actually seemed like a nice guy, apart from the killing of people.

Øystein said that he was set on taking them all down, and that he wanted Hannah to help him. Hannah was struggling with a heavy sadness in her chest, thinking about how the life they had built together had fallen apart. But she also couldn't shake the anger she felt towards these shady mafiosos. In the end something inside her shifted, and she agreed to help Øystein hunt the hunters. The crashing waves and the cool sea breeze seemed to wash away all their tensions. They got to planning, and they sat talking late into the night. By the end of it, they felt closer to each other than they had in years.

The next morning, as they checked out of the hotel, they exchanged determined looks. “It’s impossible to kill a hydra with one decisive stroke”, Øystein had said the night before. “You must work methodically, and keep chopping off one head at a time and eventually so many heads will rear their ugly features that the body cannot sustain them, making it collapse on itself,” he had continued. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense to Hannah, but she had agreed with his plan to travel to Baggieland to start their endeavor there. They left the crummy seaside hotel with a newfound appreciation for each other and a commitment to chop off heads (whether literally or figuratively, Hannah was still uncertain).

The New Generation

HUElavia enters WC 93 Qualifiers with plenty of promising young players in what may be a set-up for another generation.

The World Cup. A tournament that HUElavia has had the pleasure of participating in, but that was well over 30 odd years ago. The young golden generation was led by Cristiano Aveiro Lima, who subsequently became the nation's top goal scorer at 124 goals for the National Team. Years later, he is now the head coach of the National Team, looking to prop up another Golden Generation.

Despite the difficult elimination to rivals Abanhfleft in the Round of 16 in the IAC through penalty shootout, the HFA still gives their vote of confidence to the nation's greatest player. Still offering another 2-year contract that sees him to the end of the WC/CoH cycle, Aveiro seeks to finally get over the hump and have a fighting chance to make the World Cup. HUElavia enters the Qualifying Draw ranked 48th in the multiverse, which allows them to be seeded as a 3rd Seed team, being among the top teams to either Qualify to the World Cup or get into the Playoffs. But, all that on paper is nothing compared to what could happen.

Thus, Coach Aveiro has opted to gamble with the team's fate in the Qualifiers with young, unproven players. Back 30 odd years ago, this was a solid excuse to use young players, especially when HUElavia did not have much football experience. Today, this is a massive gamble, especially after a history of 3 World Cup appearances and 2 IAC Titles, along with 5 other IAC Final appearances. Many in the media criticized the move to bring unproven players, but Coach Aveiro responded "These youngsters need to have a stepping stone somewhere and while I and the rest of the HFA are grateful for our veterans for the time and skill put into the team, we need to look to the future. HUElavia had its most successful period in the 2070s with the young players that included myself that were playing. In order for us to have a better future, I felt we need to go back to that and give it our best." Only time will tell as to whether the gamble will work.

With 12 pots being put in place, this means that there will be 22 matches for the World Cup Qualifiers, 11 home and 11 away. As is the regular tradition, Curumba will get their Qualifying match, as well as the swap between Sao Salvador and San Rafael (the two other largest cities in HUElavia) guarantees those cities will be getting matches. With negotiations and bids in place by stadiums and cities, the HFA, National and Local Governments announced the official venues for the WC 93 Qualifiers. They are as follows: Estadio Capital (90,000) in Curumba), Estadio Internacional (82,500) in San Rafael, Estadio HUGames (72,000) in Sega, Estadio Maria Santos Leite (72,000) in Miras, Estadio Banco de HUElavia (64,500) in Fuenteque, Estadio do Bosque (58,000) in Ilmagre, Caja de Caramello (57,000) in Armalla, Estadio Antonio Fernandez Sganyodaiyo (56,000) in Rebes, Goang Stadium (53,000) in Goang, Estadio do Oro (45,000) in Ourao, and Estadio Natalia Coentrao Rocha (32,000) in Ponhadil. The venues in Ilmagre, Armalla, Rebes and Ponhadil will be "baptized" with the National Team visiting their cities for the first time.

The draw will be coming up in the coming days where there is hope for a favorable draw and motivation for the team to not play down to their opponents, especially to the weaker sides in the draw. Here's to hoping for a great and successful Qualifying Campaign!

From the office of Joos Van Agteren, Deputy Minister of State for Health, Welfare and Sport
Three weeks ago

Joos Van Agteren walked into his office, coffee in hand. It had been a long cabinet meeting full of information that had absolutely nothing to do with Health, Welfare and Sport of which he oversaw as Deputy Minister of State and he needed something to get him through the afternoon and his 2:30pm briefing with Jesse Dries, the Under-minister for Health Care. As he sat down at his large, mahogany desk, a text notification popped up on his phone. It was from his aide: See me after 2:30 briefing - something is up. "Great" he thought as he took a long sip of his coffee. "Wonder what that's about."

The briefing was a rather quick one, unusual for the long-winded under-minister of Health Care who could drag on about minutia of policies. After he showed the under-minister to the door, his aide, Martin, a smartly dressed, young professional and graduate of one of Varavel's finest institutions followed the Deputy Minster into the office and closed the door behind him.

"We need to talk about the Football Federation. Have you seen what's going on at the Baptism of Fire?" Martin began bluntly

Joos set his coffee down and adjusted his thick-rimmed glasses. "I've been meaning to catch up on all of that, but things have been rather bus--"

"Nevermind your schedule - you can't catch any of the matches or read up on the team's progress because there is no media coverage at all. No articles, no broadcasts -- nothing. Our first match was supposedly yesterday afternoon, but it's like it didn't happen. There's not even a roster announcement from the VFF!" This was supposed to be the rollout of the next phase of the new Football Federation that has been 5 years in the making since we gained independence and could branch out on our own in international sport and it's like all of the planning that has led to this point has gone off the rails!"

Joos paused for a moment. "Have you reached out to the VFF to see what's going on? It's the first international match out of the country, perhaps there were delays or --"

"I did reach out" Martin interrupted again. "I was told that I couldn't speak to the CEO of the VFF or get on his calendar because he was away."

"Well, yes" Joos responded. He's probably at the matches.

"So, I reached out to VaraSport to see why there was no coverage... THEY DIDN'T SEND ANY REPORTERS OR A BROADCAST CREW" Martin exclaimed.

"Hm" Joos grunted. Get a call set up between me and the leadership at VaraSport. Something's up and we need to get it corrected.

"On it, sir"

The Varavel Football Federation Headquarters
Three weeks ago

It was an unusual day at the VFF Headquarters, which was really just an average sized building in a suburban business park. The CEO's secretary paced back and forth. Geoffrey Windels, the CEO of the VFF hadn't been in the office for the 3rd day in a row and the secretary, who prided herself on knowing his schedule better than her own was beyond concerned. She also had 4 messages from the aide to the Deputy Minister for Sport that she had been purposely stalling until she could find out where her boss was. Finally, after almost 72 hours her phone rang and Windels' name appeared on the screen.

"Hello there!" Windels said cheerfully, seemingly unaware or unconcerned that he hadn't been heard from for three days. "I'll be back in the office tomorrow, some things came up I needed to take care of."

"What is going on? You have the Deputy Minister for Sport trying to reach you" the secretary said. "Where are you right now?"

"The details aren't important right now. Tell the Deputy Minister I can meet with him tomorrow afternoon."

---

Geoffrey Windels - CEO of the Varavel Football Federation
Three weeks and three days ago

Geoffrey Windels stepped out of his car at the international terminal of the Clerlun Aiport. He was on his way to watch the Varavel National Team compete in their first ever international tournament. This had been a long time coming. Five years ago, Varavel gained its independence once again after 53 years of Nacaltoran control. They had independence before, but that was before Geoffrey was born. Independence meant a lot of things, but in terms of sport it meant that Varavel could begin to establish its own identity to the world again. This was no small task. Football domestically had been loosely organized under the Amateur Football Association. Due to the 53 year military occupation, professional sports were not permitted and so he was tasked with organizing a new structure for professional football and the launching of the national team.

Windels walked through the automatic doors and into the terminal. As he made his way toward the desk to check-in to his flight, three men, large in stature and in expensive, tailored suits approached him and stopped him.

"Mr. Windels, we're going to need you to come with us" the man in the middle said gruffly.

"I'm sorry, who are you? I've got a flight to catch" Geoffrey replied.

"You don't need to catch that flight" the mysterious man said. "You're needed somewhere else".

And with that, the man put his hand at the center of Geoffrey's back and guided him back through the automatic doors to the departures drop-off and into a black SUV that was parked where his driver had previously dropped him off. The SUV pulled out and headed towards the highway.

Training Center in Sports City District (Harryville)

The players already knew that they would participate in their first world cup, which filled their eyes with brightness, the players were anxious, but their anxiety did not disturb them, on the contrary, they were giving their all in training, they were waiting for the Coach arrival, to explain more about WC93...

Red Arena

The Red Arena is currently one of the most modern stadiums in Harry Islands, being home to one of the greatest Harryan association football teams, the Red Dolphins, and being used in several domestic competitions of great importance in Harry Islands, such as the Giants Cup, and to the final of the Stars Cup (Other domestic competition). And in 2022, Red Arena hosted some IAC-17 group stage games

The Red Arena was inaugurated in 2015, renovated in 2017, and in 2021, the stadium's grass was changed, the grass was changed to Bermuda grass, the change was made thinking about the regeneration of the lawn, thanks to the continuous games of the Red Dolphins . The Red Arena has subway connections coming from the center of Harryville (Capital of Harry Islands) and also has normal bus lines, and an express bus line to the Stadium. The Red Arena is located in Harryville, Capital of the Harry Islands.

The Red Arena has 50,000 seats, and its largest public presence was recorded in 2016, during a friendly match of the Harryan national football team, the registered public was 52,384 people, the stadium during the beginning of 2017, there was a drop of a part of the stands, leaving 534 injured, and causing 5 deaths, after this incident, the stadium was completely renovated, and it is as we know it today, since 2017, security measures have been increasingly prioritized, so the stadium is completely safe. In 2020, the stadium was nominated to host the Stars Cup Finals (Domestic Competition). The Stadium has several shops and snack bars inside, in addition to also having a hotel for the players, the hotel is only used for games in a short period of time such as 2 or 3 days, and is also used for training the Red Dolphins team, but the team has an appropriate field for this in another location.

Archalit Olympic Stadium

Ah, the Archalit Olympic Stadium, or more commonly called "The Arc." This oddly colored yellow and purple stadium is big enough to seat 95000 and contains a soccer field within a standard 400 meter track. Nested within the athletics district in Charkara, the capital of Archalit, The Arc stands as the biggest training grounds for international-level athletes in Archalit, including the Archalit National Football Team and the Charkara Royals during the Opasna League season.

Throughout the Fellor Football League (FFL), particularly the FFLXIV to the FFLXIX, the Archalit Olympic Stadium was undergoing construction in an effort for Archalit to establish its presence within the Opasna continent. However, after the end of construction, any efforts to bid for hosting the FFL seeped away as the Great Opasna War broke out, and tensions between the nations soared. Now, the Arc is the biggest stadium in Archalit and the facility that will host their qualifying games.

A Warm-Up: Kirungabi 1 - 1 Archalit
At the Stade-Ismail-III in Sakane, Al-Tamazgha, the BoF finalists met up with all of their strength, including the re-introduction of Kanoa Faye for Archalit, for a quick friendly before the World Cup begins. The "friendly" atmosphere was all but friendly as both teams put up a hell of a fight.

The game started off very slow for the Pirates tastes. They already knew Kirungabi was an imposing force from their finals matchup, but they really didn't let up, and outright denied the offense from breaking through. However, Kanoa Faye refused to give in to frustration, and pushed the Kirungan defense who had yet to experience her play until today. On the 42nd minute, the combined effort of Jose Gee, Hazy Marbula, Kanoa Faye, and Duke Sondas broke through the defense, and elegantly weaved the ball between the defenders until Kanoa received the ball with a clear opening. One quick shot and Bugasera could only watch as the ball drove into the net and secured a point for Archalit.

Coming back really quickly, however, once Kirungabi started to retaliate against Archalit, the defense totally folded and let Pascal Mutabazi easily equalize the match. Despite their best efforts, however, Kirungabi couldn't recreate this goal. In fact, the game basically went into stalemate for the remainder of this match, as both teams failed to make a move. The game ended 1 - 1, an acceptable result for the Archalit team and a not-quite-upsetting result for the Kirungans.

XANNERIA TOURISM GUIDE : SOUTH YORK part 1
Image
xMapit is the most popular 3-d map service in Xanneria and they will be providing the street level images used in the following RP

Through use of street level mapping tools, the Xannerian Tourism Association will be presenting viewers like you with a chance to learn all about Xanneria. We will be usinsing xMapit a street level mapping service used primarily in Xanneria and other Esportivan and Rushmori nations.

Today we'll be talking about the South York province. South York is one of the two provinces that make up York Island, a large island off the coast of southeastern Xanneria. South York has population of nearly 18 million people. Almost half of whom live in Alexandria or a nearby suburb. Alexandria is also the Provincial seat of government and one of the largest cities by population. We will discuss Alexandria in a later installment, but for now we will discuss in a later installment. This installment will discuss the South Coast of York Island and the South York Province. Below is a map guide of the photos in xMapit Street Maps we used to help world-build.

EDITORS NOTE: 6/7 should be located slightly farther west.

1.) A general overview
Image
A common sight, this windy little number we're on is known as NHP-8.

This shot tells us a lot about the roads and general life of people living in the southern portion of South York. NHPs, like the one we are on are traditionally limited access highways. The sign also shows "SYK 25" this is a provincial route marker for South York Highway 25. In the northern suburbs of Invercargill the road goes by the name of Count Bassey Road, Count Bassey was a prominent land owner in the 1800s.

2.) The greatest of outdoors
Image
it's quite the sight indeed

Outdoor people will have a lot to do in South York. Brasilwaithe Provincial Park can go up against any national park in the multiverse. Named for the small river whose headwater is located in the park, Brasilwaithe garnered Provincial Park Status in 1922 thanks to the conservation efforts of Arthur LeBlanc. A prominent politician within South York and in the government in Dominica City, LeBlanc was able to use his influence in the early 20s to designate lands for a park on the provincial level. The park gets thousands upon thousands of visitors a month due to its proximity to both the major town of Youngstead and NHP-8.

3.) A day in the life.
Image
Another day in Paradise! Or just Invercargill,I guess.

Invercargill is a beautiful town. One of the best parts about living there is the proximity to the Zealand Mountains. In the distance is Mt. Slatworth. At 6,944ft it's the 8th tallest mountain in the Zealand range. Roundy Saver for those curious is a brand of discount stores or "Dollar Stores" depending on what currency you use. a "Roundy" is Xannerian slang for the national currency "The Roundel" so named due to the large circle in the middle of the paper money Xannerians used post-independence.

4.) Schooldays.
Image
Private schooling.....

Education in South York ranges from the Provincial University system (USY) to small private K-12 schools like Menzie's College Prep. Apparently this school is popular with Damukuni immigrants for some reason.

5.) Maybe thats why they call them the Blues?
Image
A traditional, albeit smaller version of the Xannerian classic, the Multi-Purpose Stadium!

Dunedin Blues FC is a popular team in the South York South Coast region.Founded in the 1930s the team has traditionally bounced around between the lower three tiers of Xannerian footballing, but never really was bad enough to get demoted into the semi-pro ranks. they play football at the 6,000 seat duel football/Baseball stadium known as "SYBank Stadium". Blues main rival is Invercargill a team that has stayed way more stagnate in the fifth tier of Xannerian football.

6.) Boat!
Image
Boats! Fishing is common passtime that pays well in Xanneria and especially in South York.

The Fishing industry has always been able to prop up the Island as a whole. Here we see fishing boats in harbor near Dunedin. Unlike Invercargill whose port is primary one for Fishermen, Dunedin actually is multi faceted and deals more with bulk materials in addition to fishing. Most materials used by Farmers are shipped into Dunedin and most farm food grown in the western part of the island are shipped out of the port too.

7.) Nitro!
Image
a lot of railroad locomotives have come out of that building as pail as a ghost!

Morningstar is a large fertilizer company specializing in the York Island area. Phosphates and other bulk materials such as Potassium as brought in bulk from mines up in the north east down to the port in Dunedin where they are then distributed by either train or truck to farmers in South York and North York. The transit system has done wonders for York Island with both the National Provincial Highway system and YorkRail have made it easier for Farmers to get goods to and from their farms.

Part 2 – The Big but Humble Beginnings.

Head Engineer Tiffany Violet Sunshine Charlotte Zelina “Duō Gōngnéng Jī” Alessandra Jennesa Cassandra Haley Hanneke Karlijn Gerrieke Roosmarijn Pnt Mollen Audrey Mariel Jeanette Smiley thought and pondered to herself, “Hmm, it seemed like a relatively far-fetched idea in the past, perhaps even impossible!” After all, when she was first re-activated from and refurbished right at the beginning of the Valentian Z, the whole world has just recovered from the ashes and deaths of the old world – a nice and serene sight with a lot of the structures and Earth itself restored by terraforming, but at the end of the day, there was much rebuilding that had to be done. As the years went on, naturally, the Valentians have researched and developed many technological advancements, and even some magical elements to a limited extent thanks to the likes of several fantasy beings being introduced and then living peacefully alongside one another. Naturally, with the world that spans two planets along with the growing population, the Valentians were taught and shown to be more knowledgeable about the impact of the cars and the roads in general that are used mostly for private cars and taxis. It was not so much that the pollution was bad; decades ago, that would have been a problem, that much is true. For the Valentians, however, it was the excessive amount of traffic jam that would plug and halt the roads. On top of that, driverless and automated trains and buses – courtesy of Head Engineer Tiffany who have a co-routine of herself running and maintaining these systems – that spans around each of the cities and major areas, have been a hit with the populace and they obviously have a larger capacity, along with being able to catch up with their work, play some games, sleep, read, and many other things.

Tiffany, of course, had bigger plans. With the advent of antimatter, Gwen becoming Fate herself, which in turn lead to wormholes, even a little bit of magic here and there from Anastasia and Holly mainly, it was time for Tiffany to realise and propose a plan so grandiose, that it would cover the entirety of Earth. Planes are already a thing, that is true. However, there has to be something that is more grounded, unlike ships and planes. Tiffany has chosen the impossible (at least at that time; now it’s completely possible). Tiffany chose – Valentian Transcontinental Railroads! A railway system where it shall not fear the Act of God, where its tracks would not be bound by the vast oceans, where its greatness would actually complement the many existing local systems of buses, trams, and metro railways. And with the cheap and affordable transit card, the Valentian Transcontinental Railroads can serve you as well.

Image

Perhaps that is sufficient dramatization. Of course, then comes the slightly technical bits that Tiffany would have to contend with. With the approval of Valkyrie Valentijn and the rest of The Sixty, along with the majority win of getting 99.485% of the vote-eligible populace to support the project; the rest of the Valentians abstained or voted against simply because they felt that it might not be ready yet, and instead suggested that the Valentians as a whole start the construction from bottoms-up, rather than top-down. In another words, from the capital of Valentine Z that is Aoutpine Yangon (Lower Yangon), Tiffany and her Valentian friends, and many others, started off the construction of the very first train station, many more to come in the future which all but Gwen do not know for certain. However, it was made certain, that they are going to finish it and see it being used, not a white elephant.

And thus began the construction – from Aoutpine Yangon, to its neighbouring territories. The very first territory that it connected to is Bangkok, the capital of Thailand which is also now under the Valentine Z territory and rule, as it was typical for the Valentian Era, covering a distance of approximately 950 kilometres. The plan of the transcontinental train is to reach each destination in a fraction of the time it would take the plane to reach the destination. Special consideration was given in order to accommodate for the effects of sudden accelerations on the body. “1g, 2g max,” Tiffany mused, going with 0.849g as a test run, “Anymore and it is going to be akin to a rollercoaster ride, and I am not sure if people will be okay with that!” The first group of test drive, consisting of the members of The Sixty such as Valentijn, Clarissa, Gwen, Chief Technician Jared, along with a couple of civilian Valentians, who have all signed a waiver that in the case that things are going south, Gwen would go back into the past and stop all these people from boarding the plane before any problems can be rectified. They waited for a couple of minutes, to which Gwen was still standing around there, checking her personal bearings but not doing anything significant. “All right, that seems like a go!” Tiffany announced, opening the doors of the train, with millions and billions of Valentians from all over the world looking in awe through the TVs and cameras that were filming and broadcasting the grand opening of the VTN, spanning from Aoutpine Yangon to Bangkok as the very first construction was done 4 weeks after the ideation phase. The train was just like any other metro train, except that it is made and reinforced with tougher materials, the glasses are bulletproof (and more), the tracks have much more failsafes to prevent people from falling into the gaps or onto the tracks themselves, and the whole nine yards. The train was pristine, with capacity for 2000 seated passengers, with standing not allowed during acceleration and deceleration.

“Hello and welcome to the very first initiation and launch of the Valentian Transcontinental System,” Tiffany’s voice echoed through the cabins, all of its passengers excited as ever to be on the train. “This has been a very exciting moment that we have been waiting for. But please, during the acceleration and deceleration, just like a plane, please remain seated on the train, and fasten your seatbelts. Young children are to be placed on their separate seats, and especially for the babies on board, we have special carriages available that can dampen the effects of acceleration to an extent. Other than that, please do enjoy the experience, and I would like to thank each and every one of the Valentians for making all of this happens!” With a hum and a couple of buttons, Tiffany took over the controls in the cockpit, starting the train, closing the door, and then they were away. The train, accelerated steadily and linearly to 3000 km/h in the span of 100 seconds, with the sound barrier breakage accounted for. At that particular speed, it was rather unfortunate that the Valentians were unable to see anything out of the windows, what with it being a streak of blur, and all of it threatening to give anyone, no matter how hardened, some form of nausea. It was smooth and silent, the new train and the tracks doing all of these jobs well as. 20 minutes later, they arrived.

Image

And thus, with it being proven, and after several more test drives with 0% accident and incident rate in all fronts, even during relatively rough weather, the Valentians are ready to go with the large trains, hopefully to serve the entire world soon. For that moment in 2074, the network would expand to Cambodia, with 4 stations in total at the start, and having a daily ridership rate of 1,000,000 going around these 3 countries. This is just the beginning.
