Women's suffrage index

Postby Plewnidminster » Sun Jan 22, 2023 1:32 pm

No suffrage- Laws explicitly deny votes to women or no one one of the female gender can vote as none are legally allowed within the classes given this right (e.g.
property-owners or clergy of the state religion, where these are required to not be female)

Biased suffrage- Laws either explicitly discriminate against females in voting (e.g. setting higher voting ages or property requirements not applied to men) but still allow at least some women to vote, or, deliberately sets requirements designed to disenfranchise more women than men.

Unrepresentative suffrage:
Women are able to vote but, in practice, more men meet the requirements than women.

Full suffrage: Women can vote on the same terms as men and at least as many women might the requirements set for voting.

Matriarchal suffrage: Women can vote on broader terms than the other gender(s) in the state.

Women-only suffrage: Only women can vote.

Unrepresentative suffrage:
Men and women can vote on the same terms but as national servicemen can vote as well as householders (defined as anyone who either owns a home, rents a home or is married to someone who does), more men than women can vote.
National service only exists for men.

Matriarchal suffrage: With the hypothetical exception of combat veterans
(there are no combat veterans under 21 due to the lack of wars in our history), the male voting age is 21. In addition, men must pass a literacy test.
News:
- Corporal punishment reinstated following exit from WA.
- Men’s rights reduced.
- Economic growth down.

In national elections, Tangatarehua has full suffrage however many local elections would fall under the matriarchal suffrage category as there is a higher voting age for men (30) than women (21) in some prefectures.

It should also be noted that in Tangatarehua women have held the right to vote since the opening of the first Parliament in 1835 while men did not get the right to vote until 1901 and even to this day there are sectors of society that argue against male suffrage due to (allegedly) men's tendency to vote for violent or militarist parties as well as the fact that generally men are less educated than women in Tangatarehua.

Midlonaian Women & Suffrage

Postby Midlona » Sun Jan 22, 2023 8:45 pm

I am proud to report that female Midlonaian's enjoy full and equal political and civil rights as compared to their male counterparts.

As a Federal Republic, our sacred principles of representation and independence demand that the government respect and abide by the sovereignty of the Midlonaian people. Human reason and decency does not reside in man alone. So neither shall the benefits and rights reason and decency demand.

Women have had full and equal suffrage since the establishment of the modern Democratic Republic in 1904. Between 1904 and 1923, the voting age was 25 years old and since 1923, it has been 20 years old.

Juansonia has full and equal suffrage, as all citizens gain the right to vote at the age of majority (18 for humans). Voting rights can be taken away as punishment for crimes, but this is reserved for election fraud, treason, and similar offenses.

Aesmenia and the Isles wrote:Can you define women for this index?
If your nation has a mostly-human populace, and the government defines "woman", "female", or related terms in a semi-reasonable manner, use that. Most people use either the "they are a woman if they genuinely identify as one" approach or the "it's based on what's assigned at birth" approach, and the overlap of those definitions is probably more than enough for this survey.

Of course, you could always elaborate in your response.

edit: just read your sig. Now I know why you asked. List both including and excluding the group which you are unsure of whether they count.

Full suffrage but there is a long-running joke about changing to matriarchal suffrage.

The answer is a bit complicated in Sagrea. Voting is not done by the general populace, and most positions are appointed. The few elections that exist are restricted to government officials voting, which women are equally able to do as men. So while voting as a whole is restricted, women still have the same amount of ability as men.

Women-only suffrage
Women are the only gender in Saalenia that has opportunities for political participation. At each level, only women over the age of 16 are given democratic voting rights, with the aristocratic part of the political system being exclusively female.

Women have full suffrage in the Kingdom of Rwizikuru, but more men participate than women due to cultural considerations, with the ratio rising the further you get from the major population centres.

Full suffrage. Though the many societies and peoples of the PCU/GDP have traditionally ranged for patriarchial to egalitarian to matriarchial, the continent as a whole has leant towards the later two attitudes, which were further bolstered by the formation of the Union guided both by an mixture of socialist ideology, the egalitarian nature of the continent's dominant animist and Christian syncretic faiths, and the central position of both male and female leaders and soldiers during the decades of resistance and eventual triumph against British, German, American and Japanese colonisation, particularly from 1898 to 1947, and in the reconstruction, modernisation, and aggressive foreign interventions of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. As a result all citizens from the age of 6 are able to vote in municipal, regional, and federal elections and referendums.

Universal un-suffrage. Nobody can vote. Neither men nor women. Elections are not held and likely aren't going to be in the foreseeable future. Democracy is not highly prized in Revanchist Virginia. We prefer proper leadership, under our Leader, President Forrest Turner Eckart. We haven't even completed the conquest of Virginia yet, after all. And the...necessary...purges. As for feminists, well, we rounded up those gynocrats in Blacksburg earlier this year and well, they're no longer an...issue. Coughs.

Alternate, independent Virginia dominated by a mix of fascists, neo Confederates, and Christian nationalists.
Currently at war with a resistance movement composed of several key cities and counties.
President is Forrest Turner Eckart, who is only loosely based upon certain American far right political figures.
