At a press conference today outside the Greater Markion Alliance of Nations (GMAN) headquarters, Green Union representative Josef Stöckler lambasted the deeply reckless and destabilizing actions of Santoak's military junta. Across the almost half hour speech he dug deep into the recent history of Santoak, from its increasingly troubling relationship placing military leaders above civilian ones to blatant kinetic interference in the affairs of other states, as well as a list of bloody wars in which Santoak targeted civilian targets in deliberate terror bombing campaigns in order to secure territorial concessions. The current civilian regime in Santoak, Mr. Stöckler argued, has repeatedly shown itself to exist at the pleasure of the Santoak Self-Defense Forces (SSDF), a military which has only continued to grow its independent power base through an exorbitant budget, lavish weapons development programs, and privileged political position. And above all, it is a military which just a month ago was proven to have secret plans for completely destroying their own nation should their grip on power ever fail. On this last point representative Stöckler stressed the recent memory Markion nations have with their own heavily militarized, insular Communist neighbour calling themselves the Liberated Free Nations, which shocked the region when its leaders, rather than accept defeat by the international coalition moving in to depose their rogue regime, blanketed their whole country in nuclear and chemical weapons to prevent any of its people falling to the capitalists. Seeing the seeds of such fanaticism in a nation with a wide array of next generation weapons of mass destruction and a military with interregional reach no doubt worries the nations of GMAN, many of whom fear the consequences for Markish trade in the region should Santoak move forward with reactivating a weapon of such broad offensive scope.

Santoak's foreign policy, it was argued before GMAN, is unreliable and its domestic stability in question. The nation's military already possesses numerous weapons of mass destruction and acts without proper oversight from a credible civilian government. What happens if a neighbouring country Santoak considers to be within their sphere of influence attempts to establish its own sovereignty? What if a domestic movement against the regime threatens the SSDF's hold on power? With Stonehenge even partially back online, the SSDF will have a weapon capable of cowing dissent anywhere in the Asia-Pacific region, without needing to risk a carrier group or land a single soldier. And being a non-nuclear option, the military will feel justified in employing this weapon far more liberally against any and all rivals. Where in 2007 they had to send bombers to flatten cities, now they will be able to do so from the safety of their home islands.

This is where representative Stöckler announced what was being done in response to Santoak blatant act of aggression. Already a coalition of Markion nations had co-signed a bill in opposition to the Stonehenge reactivation. The Empire of Sevevill, Federation of Arcadian States and Commonwealths, Kingdom of Kooplieden, People's Kingdom of the Green Union, Kingdom of Emerstari, Arctic totally not a cult islands of Möslit, and city-state of Soveiniesberg had all put aside their differences to issue one clear message to Santoak's junta: Retract your decision to reactivate Stonehenge, commit to permanently decommissioning the site, or we will do it ourselves. Should the Santoakian government fail to meet these demands within twenty-four hours the coalition would be taking their bill before GMAN to request the blessing of Markion's nations for a joint kinetic response.


Ambassador Stöckler's words have raised concerns in Markion for Markish citizens and military assets outside of the region's boundaries. Several news sources have already noted that the Kamooko Pact frigate Persistor and light cruiser Sentinel were most recently reported to be operating near New Zealand, protecting a convoy of Markish merchant shipping through the historically volatile waters. What risks these ships and their crews may be exposed to following the coalition's demands is now just up to speculation.

And today, she flies into battle again, as the count strikes one minute closer to midnight, Task Force Halberd -- One of the largest formations of ships, aircraft and men that has ever been gathered in the history of the republic -- makes it's move. They will not stand for this clear and naked act of aggression and greed that will see the prosperous seas of the Pacific compromised, and their skies blackened.

Colonel Prokhor Fedorov looks from the deck of the APS San Patagonia, as Helicopters swoop past the task force in pairs or trios. He savors every moment of seeing such an force passing the canal, slowly and steadily.
In the well deck, a crowd of maintenance workers and crew tend to what ground vehicles the Patagonia will carry to battle.

"The project can be shared, of course, though it will call for volunteer subjects and heavy use of biomass collection to assist in the studies. My research has moved up to genetic repair attempts, but it has only been tested on stem cells and lab rats to little effect. A shame that one's mutations tend to be self repairing for unknown reasons, but perhaps my research can attempt to undo the damages that have been accumulated from radiation, while your team works to streamline the gene editing process to ensure that the mutation, if present, is not restored... Or even made dormant for future therapy."

A cure, perhaps, but not one that can restore the lives ruined by the deformity. More so prevention, than anything.

There were some Soveinian aircraft heading for Santoak. A Boeing RC-135U "Combat Sent", a Boeing RC-135A, a Boeing RC-135M "Rivet Card", a Beriev A-50 AWACS, and two Mikoyan MiG-31 fighter jets. They were expected to come into view soon... maybe to take pictures?

Our reason for coming is to investigate reports of abnormal activity on the island.

Air defense woke up the moment the blips appeared on the JTPS-P25 early-warning radar network. In less than a minute after being identified as aiming to cross international water that a call was made to North Island Hokkaido Air Command. Two minutes as the Air Marshall and his staff processed the information and knew that they were no doubt heading for Stonehenge. He had his orders to keep it safe at all costs even if it caused an international incident.

"All aye?" he said. He had already made his decision but he waited in case one of his trusted compatriots said otherwise.

There was no dissent.

Sirens began to sing around Fort SEELE's airfield. The airstrip was greatly unique as half of it was actually dug into the side of a mountain range which allowed aircraft to remain safe under several hundred meters of rock. And the length of the airstrip inside the mountain was enough that skilled pilots could be arcing directly up the moment they exited the tunnel. The newer ASF-X Shinden IIs were still being transferred from Tokyo-2 so the Air Marhsall had to make do with what he had.

Ten minutes after the first detection the first planes were already in the sky. Two F-15Js were scrambled equipped with AIM-9 Sidewinder and Mitsubishi AAM-4 missiles strapped to their hard points. Behind them would follow three F-2s that would be able to catch up in seven minutes.

Already all radio lines were being tried with the incoming craft repeating the same line.

"This is Santoak Air Defense, unknown craft you are penetrating Santoak Air. Identify yourself at once or you will be shot down!"

"Did they seriously think they could just fly in? It's not like they're in stealth aircraft," Wyvern-2 spoke over closed comms as they made for intercept trajectory. Targets were still far beyond the visual range and lock of their AAM-4 which had a range of 120 km.

"And they're seriously threatening us. In Fortress Hokkaido? I just think they're suicidal." Wyvern-1 shook his head.

"No. You have to be kidding me."

"I mean think about it. They can't possibly be that stupid if they're talking about first saying they'll shoot us down - which even if they do they'll never make it out - and they're begging us not to shoot them down. Has to be a defection attempt. They just don't want their command to know."
