When the Maltitalerian Lira (adopted in 1761, the year of the foundation) was replaced (in 1848), the exchange rate was 100 M. Lira = 1 FLY, it took 8 months to replace it completely. The "mFLY" wording is mostly used in the biggests cities (as the capital) and internationally, but normally is "FLY" the most used.
It was proposed, in 1851, to coin the 1/2 Centy, because before 1848, with 50 cents of M. Lira, was common to buy 1 candy, so prices of candies after 1848 practically doubled... This proposal was never took in consideration. The 2 FLY coin is rare because is no longer coined, since 1998, but sometimes appears, and often it isnt spent. The mFLY is the national currency, used for foreign trades and is accepted in all the country, but there are local currencies too, provided by companies (private banks etc.) and they have differing values and systems. The mFLY is the only real recognized currency for foreign trade in Maltitalerland, since it's use is much more common and it's the money operated by the government.
