Quebec & Shingoryeo Information

Quebec & Shingoryeo is a gigantic nation of 84 million people located in the Calania continent of northwestern Atlantian Oceania, consisting of 12 provinces.

That said, due to its geographical location, as well as the complexities of the territorial planes over the Quebecois Realms, it identifies itself as a nation of both Calania and northwestern AO, and handles its border/territorial situations accordingly. Quebecois Realms and the N.A.F.T.A. Zone of five nations that are, for some complicated reasons soon to be RP'd in the last quarter of the OOC calendar year 2022, located in Anaia and Atlantian Oceania.

In Anaia, it borders former Semarland and New Gesem to the southeast and Huayramarca to southwest. In Atlantian Oceania, it borders Lacfroid to southeast and Whitecroft to southwest. South Detroit Free State, as a former Quebecois territory, is considered a dual-region state and qualifies under same regulations as the Quebecois Mainland in terms of border control. In terms of water, it faces Salamantic Sea and the Northandryun Strait to the West, Xile Sea to the East. North of the Quebecois borders stand Blood Sea, the maganimous ocean that stands between Anaia and Atlantian Oceania to Rushmore.

The land that is now known to be part of Quebecois Realms, which share boundaries with the aforementioned nations of the N.A.F.T.A. Zone, is inhabited for millennia by the indigenous people present in the region. In the year 1404, the fleet of Joseonite exiles would sail into the so-called RL-verse move into areas that nowadays constitute the Acadie province and the capitol of Joongyeong, where the kingdom was founded in the same year by Henri I, who negotiated treaty of coexistence among all peoples of the nation, whether indigenous or Koreanophone.

Over the subsequent centuries, the nation would grow in size and technology. With the quiet incorporation of the neighbouring peoples, the expansion of maritime trade between Atlantian Oceania and Rushmore (and to some degree Tyran and Esportiva), subsequent industrialisation of the country's industries, and inconsistent operations of the interrealm portal, the Quebecois Empire would grow to incorporate territories across many regions.

The Empire, while formed by military warfare and supported by its allied nations (see: Gatchingerrak Union's constituent nations), was an odd one of own. It did not suppress the peoples or the cultures, but focused on the equal standings between the locals (this being mostly the ruling elites of the territories) who would fall under the mostly similar administrative and economic frameworks (citation needed for latter btw). Thus, the Empire was stood to be a short-term option with nations fostered to develop their own, nationalistic path over time. With the growing inequalities faced domestically at home, and the overseas territories becoming increasingly unmanageable in economic terms by the early-1900s, decolonisation and the further bloc-ification of the Quebecois Empire and its allies were inevitable and encouraged.

Eventually, the Empire would turn into that of the Quebecois Commonwealth, a loose political and economic union of two-dozen nations, with the process finished by year 1949. The nation, now without a glitter (and grime) of an empire, had to embark on their own path to redefine themselves. Continued encouragement of immigration from both Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth nations, which had coincided the postwar decades' excitement and calls for cultural liberalisation, would further diversify the nation. At the same time the resilient strength of the nation's economy, even after all the booms-and-busts of economic cycles, nationalisation and privatisation and re-nationalisation policies, would too ensure that Quebec and Shingoryeo, just over a century after the nation-defining Southern Rushmori War and the de-markation of the Quebecois Empire, and just under a decade after historical Foxchester Declaration, is still a darn good place to live, if slightly expensive.

Quebec and Shingoryeo is a federal parliamentary democracy and semi-constitutional monarchy, currently led by Christine II as the head of state. There are three official languages - English, French and Korean - with local indigenous languages spoken in regional capacity. Quebec and Shingoryeo has one of the largest economies in both regions, which is built upon its strengths in heavy industry, finance and agriculture.

As the seat of the former Quebecois Empire and the current Quebecois Commonwealth, Quebec & Shingoryeo has stood as a major power in Anaia and Atlantian Oceania. It has also maintained its historical status as one of major international powers in culture, science and philosophy - a feat achieved partly through the existence of Quebecois Commonwealth and its geopolitical location between Anaia, Atlantian Oceania and Rushmore, but also through long history of social and cultural homogeneity that originated from the nation's founding day. That said the nation, once an active participant in international wars, has stayed peaceful and relatively conflict-less, and is expected to uphold the past forty years of peacetime.

Travelling to Quebec and Shingoryeo is a fun, multi-planar experience (lol) of own. It can feel daunting and all that - I totally understand it!

So, with this in mind, here are some travel tips you could use for next the month of fun on the Quebecois west coast:

1. Laws, laws and laws.

Quebec and Shingoryeo is known to be a fairly liberal country in terms of certain laws, and it's partly true. That is probably why you are smelling a bit of marijuana and may be drinking too much on an outdoor patio of a local delicatessen while walking down the street.

The minimum age to purchase and consume substances vary in what substance - 14 for alcohol, 16 for marijuana, and 21 for tobacco. Possession and consumption of said substances (which also include a narrow list of recreational drugs) outdoors are predictably legal as well, though some boomers and fitness maniacs may openly judge you if you do them in a park or somewhere that is public.

There is a total ban on indoor public smoking, however, and this extends to sporting events in general. Drinking on indoor venues, while not prohibited, will be frowned upon. Besides, why would you drink indoors when there is just a pub down the road with way cheaper and better quality Anju? Drugs trade, unless they are from a legal vendor and for legal substance, is banned. So if you are a local or a tourist, you are more than welcome to go to a state-owned Cannabiscorp or a co-op store and buy stuff instead.

What is no different than other past hosting nations are firearms. Firearm ownership, let alone use, is heavily restricted in Quebec and Shingoryeo with exceptions only given to those whose work requires it (e.g. shooters, pentathletes, some members of the police and the military), or those who have likely survived months and several dozen pages of the application process for a hunting rifle. For the sake of this competition, let's just assume that it's probably not a good idea to not bring your favourite Glock or Colt .45 to Quebecois soil.

2. Quebecois Pound (Q£) is the national currency. The exchange rate is roughly Q£1 = NSD 2.00. Foreign credit cards will be accepted into most bank ATMs.

3. As seen above, Quebec and Shingoryeo has three official languages - English, French and Korean - with local indigenous language(s) also used on a regional capacity. While all three languages will be used in an official capacity, the language dynamic there is a bit more complicated - the best way to describe this is by using a quote from Sylvain IV 'The Thinker', the great-grandfather of current Christine II - 'I speak English to a Banker, French to a Dancer, Korean to a Thinker, and the Original Tongue to a God.' In the Northwestern part of Quebec, English and Korean are primarily spoken.

4. Quebecois people are usually known to be talkative, celebratory and most importantly blunt, and they will rarely apologise or remain polite unless on close capacity. While those in need of help or directions will always be helped, and you will be set for a long time after that, it is expected that the help is asked first by those to whom this may concern. That said, once the help is sought out and all goes well, you will be set for the rest of your time here, and may have found yourself a lifelong mate to come stay over or drink with.

5. The rights of freedom of speech and assembly are guaranteed. That said, this does not mean freedom from consequences.

In adherence to the security protocol established back in the Games of the 16th Olympiad, there will be strict security checks when entering the venues and team hotels, with additional personnel placed across the city. Unlike with the Olympics, however, there will be more lax security regulations -- flares, obscenely large banners and limited display of hooliganism will be tolerated. Displays of hate speech will not be tolerated, however.

6. The question of religion is a complicated one, perhaps even more so than languages. Traditionally, Roman Catholicism, Mahayana Buddhism, Anglicanism, and Indigenous religions are considered as four religious pillars of state and are viewed with particular interest by the state and people. All four pillars, as well as other minor religions, incorporate various elements of native shamanism and folk traditions and do not always follow the rules from Vatican or Canterbury, something that has complicated the authority-to-authority relations over the Interrealm portal.

The rights of religion are unquestioned here, and this will remain the same throughout the course of your stay in the country. People tend to be careful being aware of other person's religions though, and their way of addressing it is usually not asking about them. At least not on the first impression/moment, or else they are viewed as rude.

7. If you need police, fire or most importantly medical help, please call 777. (Yeah, it's literally 777).

Visitors and athletes of delegations will be able to receive excellent and prompt care from the city's hospitals and walk-in clinics under the People's Healthcare Services (PHS). Specialists may take a little bit longer time to reach, but for the most part, will be there for you in time. Those interested in consulting services re: traditional medicine will be given referrals, but those likely require a friend or two, or a local jack, who knows one.

8. Food and alcohol here should be fine, if slightly spicy. Influenced by the indigenous fare and the influences of haute cuisine coming from the Joseonian settlers of old, the Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, and other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats. In this part of Calania, moose, lamb and caribou are known to be particularly popular, which have long survived the wave of delicacies that are no longer eaten.

They are also known for their intensive use of spices, sauces and pastes. Seafood is extremely popular across the country, though their affordability remains up in the air unless you reside on the West or East Coast - more inland parts usually consume freshwater fare instead. Quebecois do not have a particularly picky taste of alcohol in general, though what alcohol you drink usually depends on your cultural background and socioeconomic demographics. Smoking culture is massive here, and while cigarette smoking is very slowly declining over the years, marijuana's prominence in society is not something that's being challenged anytime soon.

ABOUT MYEONGJU & BONGPYEONG-SAINT-AMANT

Myeongju is the centrepiece and the main host city of the AOlympics Winter Carnival. While it has not hosted an Olympic Games proper, the city has hosted many visiting fans and delegations who have come to nearby Bongpyeong and Saint-Amant, two resort towns located approximately thirty minutes drive and/or train ride away, and crossing through multiple mountains, from the city's Downtown.

A small city of around 450,000 people, Myeongju is located on the self-explanatory province of Nord-Est on northeastern Quebec and Shingoryeo's mainland. Sandwiched between the tundras and the arctic that cover most of the province, as well as the nearby presence of warmer, rainier Acadie and Inteachan provinces, Myeongju directly faces the water of the East Sea (also used in Anaia as Grinshem Sea) on the east, and is just west of the mouth of Fleuve-Saint-Henri that flows from Joongyeong and Songak, two largest metropolises in the central part of the country, into the East Sea. The location of it has meant that the city, being one of the oldest in all of Quebec and Shingoryeo, holds high heritage value with many traditional, older houses and buildings in relatively good condition and found all over the city. The city's long history (mostly on literature, art and other forms of creative industries) could be found at the Samjook House Gallery and Myeongju City Museum.

Economically Myeongju is a diverse location, with the city and its surrounding regions separated by the Juvenal mountain range that separate the countryside towns from the port city. Traditionally it is known as one of the most recognisable locations when it comes to East Coast fishery, and while the industry has somewhat dwindled from the heydays about half a century ago, Myeongju continues to be a major location for the fisheries. The downtown itself reflects those challenges, with a lot of old buildings on the city's Downtown and the Quay still being repurposed and worked to facilitate the growing tourism industry that have long been prevalent in the surrounding resorts and towns, but not as much on Myeongju proper outside of traditional locations. As with those developments the city demographics start to change as well with many youths and retirees starting to move into the area, largely on permanent basis but with some on holidaying purposes as well, and the city continues to grow in terms of population and interest.

Outside of Myeongju, the surrounding villages and resorts are ones you would most likely notice along the Pleyel mountain range (alt. approximately 1200-1800m). With difficult terrain, cold climate and strong environmental regulation being in place for over a century now, the natural landscape of Myeongju and the surrounding Pleyel remain mostly preserved. Due to abundance of snow in the winter, as well as relatively cooler climate during the summer, tourists and sportspeople of all colours come to Myeongju and the surrounding villages on a year-round basis, with some coming to train, others to enjoy opportunities made available. Plenty of hiking and rafting opportunities exist here, though steepness of both the waterfalls and the speed of running water along its streams would mean that safety advisories do exist for those who venture in certain times of the year, particularly the winter.

Bongpyeong and Saint-Amant resorts are two, large-scale resorts located in middle of the Bongpyeong-Saint-Amant County that was merged into one two decades ago. While the BSA is traditionally known for its particularly large output of potatoes (a traditional Nord-Est feature, though) and buckwheat (80% of the national supply), the County has made it name known for the winter sports in last hundred years, with said reputation now more known than that of agriculture. Having hosted a wide range of Olympic qualifying events here eight ago, the resort was offered the opportunity to host the snow events of the AOlympic Winter Carnival, and is excited to welcome all guests from the Atlantian Oceania region and beyond.

Both resorts will also be serving as the delegated AOlympic Village, with sections blocked off to provide accommodation for all athletes and other members of the delegation. National delegations will be grouped together inside a building, with one room being made available for two athletes with necessary accommodations available. All access to necessary common space will be provided, as well as security to ensure that only those with credentials are allowed access into the accommodations.

[The Cordian Isles]

Cordian National Ice Hockey Team

Defending World Cup of Hockey Champions (for now).

Ranked second in the world.

And one of the most physical and explosive teams in the world to boot.

This is not a team that anybody wants to be messing with right now.

Now, many will argue that their path to the championship was lighter than usual. Yet it still required going through some of the best teams the world has to offer after a less than convincing group stage performance.

The AOHC has consistently tripped up this Cordian team, no matter how good they’re supposed to be. In fact, the North Stars haven’t made it past the quarterfinals in this tournament. Considering AO’s long and impressive hockey history, perhaps that isn’t too surprising. Perhaps the Cordians will fare better in this edition, considering their more recent improvements. We’ll have more to say after the conclusion of the World Cup of Hockey - the North Stars are still very much in it to win, currently in the quarterfinal stage.


References to "the league" are references to the CIHL, the professional Cordian hockey league.

A former CIHL player herself, Thomassen won the league championship on three occasions in the pre-internationalization era with the Danvirk Wall.

A speedy left wing who can shoot and pass with precision, Perreau is consistently Lakeside's top scorer.

Center - Randolf Karlsson
Age: 29
Team: Gilded City Golden
Karlsson can do two things: win faceoffs and fire incredibly powerful shots. Luckily, he's very good at those two things. The move up to Line 1 with Eric Eaton’s retirement should suit him well, with Perreau providing options and Ericsen screening.

Right Wing - Harald Ericsen
Age: 31
Team: Cordasfjord Crusaders
Known for his netfront battling, Ericsen's screens are notoriously good and the defense invariably scores more goals when he's on the ice. This is likely to be his last World Cup of Hockey after spending three cycles on the first line.

Left Wing - Jennifer Vosun
Age: 28
Team: East Fjord HC
Vosun is a force on both offense and defense for East Fjord, blocking a lot of shots every game and cutting down shooting angles very effectively. Her two-way ability has secured her a spot on the first line of both penalty kills.

Center - Martin Kordsen
Age: 25
Team: North Bay Lightning
Easily the best younger player in the Isles, and with perhaps the best skating skills anywhere in the Isles, Kordsen signed with the Lightning right off his national semifinalist school team, not even playing junior hockey or anything. Now the best player on the Lightning, Kordsen leads the team in just about everything, but North Bay have found themselves stuck in the AA division since the last WCoH.

Right Wing - Rurik Dirsson
Age: 29
Team: Cordasfjord Crusaders
Dirsson is usually one of the league's best playmakers, and it's a great help to his Crusaders, consistently ranking among the nation’s best teams.

Left Wing - Magnus Bjornsen
Age: 26
Team: Red Hill Sappers
Bjornsen plays for the Red Hill Sappers, a small team in a small town with a legendary hockey tradition, and in his second season with the team he led them to a promotion to the AAA division and was a huge factor in Red Hill’s upset of Vikings HC in the CIHL playoffs.

Center - Alicia Sorensen
Age: 21
Team: Jutland Whalers
An elite talent in Jutland, the Whalers and Riveters went at it to sign her - and the Whalers won. Sorenson is a well-rounded hockey player, but is best with her shot - hard, accurate, and scorer of the goal that eliminated Martin Kordsen’s team from the national championships back when she was just fifteen and him eighteen. How about that for full-circle?

Right Wing - Signy MacLeod
Age: 26
Team: Jutland Riveters
A great playmaker who is next up on the powerplay when the team is short a player for whatever reason, MacLeod’s passes are almost always on the tape. Coupled with an impressive awareness of the game and a scoring touch that is not to be ignored, MacLeod is a sleeper candidate for player of the game on any given day.

Left Wing - Bergonund Olafsen
Age: 31
Team: White River Eagles
Olafsen is a grinder, and his line has the best forecheck on the team, largely thanks to his determination in battles, and his size. See Olafsen coming in behind you and you'll cough up the puck like the skinny kid coughing up his lunch money.

Center - Verna Fredriksson
Age: 18
Team: COR National Team Development Program
At first glance, Fredriksson appears to be from the mold of Justin Perreau and Martin Kordsen - quick and deadly forwards with a scoring touch. But much bigger and with a tendency towards physically and domination in corner battles, Fredriksson the perfect grinding forward. She will center this fourth line, perhaps the best grind line in the world, and it’ll take quite a lot to live up to the legacy of Will Egilsen, but if anyone can, it’s certainly her.

Right Wing - Tryggve Eriksson
Age: 30
Team: Jutland Whalers
Eriksson is at his best battling in the corners; he rarely comes out without the puck.

These twins are both over six feet tall and they have the hardest shots in the league. They're major offensive contributors for the Riveters because of their shots, which are dangerous from nearly anywhere.

Haraldsen's shutdown defense in the college league has turned Kersson into a force to be reckoned with this past season.

Don't laugh at his name, or you'll find yourself on the ice, with him laughing at you. Svensson is the most physical player on the ice despite (still) being one of the youngest.

Larsson is the future of defense on the Cordian national team. A bit on the small side, but powerful, he is the quintessential stay at home defenseman, and he’ll be learning from one of the best in the world in Freydis Svensen. He’s got some of the biggest clubs in Cordia after him, including his hometown of Valley Fold, and this tournament will certainly have major implications for his future.

Team: Lakeside Warriors
Svensen excels at every method of shot prevention: blocking, lifting the stick, contesting the puck, and so on. When she marks a player, they rarely score. Moved to the third pair to keep Svensson and Haraldsen together, she will mentor the next big thing in Cordian defense in Larsson as she heads toward her last years of professional hockey.

Was critical to the Cordians' incredible quarterfinals run in WCoH 44, which featured six wins in a row - of which Ericsson played five. He also led the Cordians to the quarterfinals in WCoH 45, and played in both victories over Quebec and Shingoryeo. He also led the Cordians all the way to a World Cup of Hockey championship last cycle. Quite a resume.

Backup - Olaf Smith

Smith always comes up big in big games and is one of the most consistent goaltenders in the CIHL, but there are several younger options competing for his spot and it won’t be long before he, too, is forced to drop from the national team.

Forecheck: ABC sounded dumb last time. We'll just call it the Cordian forecheck this time around. Much less elementary. One player pressures opposing defensemen while other players cover all other players so that the other team is left with no options.

Even Strength Defensive Zone: Below the tops of the circles is man-on-man play; above them is zone play. Important: If an opposing player moves from above to below or vice-versa, coverage changes.

Breakout: Pull-system breakout, used to create either defensive panic or a 1-on-0 advantage. The weakside winger begins skating as soon as they see puck possession is theirs; strongside wing and center set up in typical breakout procedure, with the added option of a speeding weakside winger.

Powerplay: The 1-3-1. The idea is to get either a shot from the slot, a cross-ice pass for a shot, or a shot for a rebound and a scramble in front of the net.

Hockey in Cordia is on par with football (soccer) in popularity. With a strong junior league and school system, players rarely make it onto senior team rosters in the CIHL until they reach 21, with a few exceptional cases. The national league is the Cordian Isles Hockey League. The reigning league champions are the Cordasfjord Crusaders. Cordian hockey as coached by Kress "Terrible" Thomassen is exceptionally aggressive, trading defensive mistakes for offensive chances, relying on a strong forecheck to keep the puck out of their own zone. Players are expected to play a physical game; expect hits, but mostly to make the play. Petty penalties may happen, especially in rough losses. Oh, and you'll hear plenty of trash talk on the ice. A true Cordian talks a good game. Even inside their own zone, Cordian forwards will cheat up at the first sign of possession, a risky move that leaves men on both teams open and can work either way. As a result, the WCoH Federation rates Cordia's playstyle a +3.5.

Strategy:

Forecheck: 1-2-2 (Off Wing Coverage)
A standard 1-2-2 forecheck with F1 pressuring the man with the puck and forcing him to the outside of the ice. F2 and F3 cover both wings, not allowing passes out. If the puck is wheeled around the net, F3 takes the man with the puck, F2 slides to the strongside wing and F1 takes the off wing.

Breakout/Zone Entry:
Most Common Option: “Portlandian Weave”
A standard weave breakout with the winger passing the puck to the center who moves to the inside, while the strongside wing moves to the middle. Weakside wing takes the far board but moves up high as the strongside wing crashes the net and the center shoots for a rebound off the far pad if possible.

Secondary Option: “Center Fly” (used more common when defense has less time to get a pass off)
When the defenseman gets control of the puck the center comes out of the defensive zone aligned with the near post to the strongside defenseman. The defenseman then makes a pass out to center, or to a wing if the center successfully pulled the strongside wingers defender out of the zone.

Wyatt Johnston: (25, Cansby Silvertips PHL)
The starting goaltender for Portlandia. A goalie who has a very strong blocker side and very good movement within the net. Gives up more rebounds than most international goalies however makes up for it with outstanding size within the net a very safe game built on play out of the butterfly positions.


Matthew Dotson: (23, Durwin Express PHL)
Considered a weaker goaltender due to more inconsistent play. An extremely aggressive goalie who makes many aerobatic saves and is able to back it up with outstanding rebound control on his pads. Struggles with low blocker saves and often makes mistakes when coming out to play the puck.


Left Defensemen:
Nick Mahaley (28, Klamath Sabres PHL)
Won the award for the best defenseman in the PHL last season. A physical force whose front-of-the-net play is feared by grinders leaguewide. His large frame allows him to deliver huge hits and to meet those who enter his zone at the blue line with amazingly strong pokechecks.

Derrick Williamson (31, Blamond St. Pats PHL)
An older defender who is very dependable for being on the second line. Lacks the offensive prowess he once held but still is arguably the best player in the defensive zone outside of Mahaley. Led the St Pats to a playoff run and one of the lowest Goals Against in the entire PHL last season.

Mason McCaulley (22, Sarlet Cobras PHL)
A still young and relatively unproved defenseman who made a name for himself by putting up a huge number of assists and being a key part in the Cobras playoff run.
Throughout 16 playoff games had 12 assists and 3 goals, nearly putting up a point per game and being one of the highest point totals for defensemen in the playoffs.


Right Defensemen:
Emanuel Broussard (25, Klamath Sabres PHL)
The other half of Klamaths menacing defensive first line last year, Broussard had an extremely impressive campaign, putting up league high assist totals for defensemen. Combined with amazing stick skills, Broussard’s passing ability makes him an extremely valuable threat from the blue line.

Kaden Scott (29, Cansby Railers PHL)
The most physical defenseman on the team. Nearly never loses battles down in the corners and has very good skating skills that allow him to get back on defense after taking a man into the boards. Lacks offensive zone production but him and Williamson on the same line keep shots away from the net.

Michael Bane (30, Bolmark Icemen PHL)
A defenseman who can put pucks on net and stop player in their tracks at the blue line. Bane struggles with passing and often gives up breakaways on cross ice passes however makes up for it with a blistering one timer that is feared by the best of goalies in the PHL.

Vilita & Turori Stun Gyatso-Kai in the Mountains, Soak in the Victory with MD2 Bye

Hakoda Ishii Group - Sallss Arena, Raleigh, Lacfroid :: After backing their way into the knockout rounds of the World Cup of Hockey in the Squornshelan Remnant States, the Vilita and Turori ice Cat Things would face a difficult but familiar opposition: Gyatso-kai. A rivalry that started in the World Cup of Footsport, the two nations have seen their fates on the Ice ebb and flow in recent seasons. While Vilita and Turori are one time World Cup of Hockey Champions, they are the winningest national entity in the history of the Atlantian Oceania Hockey Championships. Vilita and Turorian clubs have also swept the last two domestic Hockey Champions League campaigns. On the other hand, Gyatso-Kai have seen great success at the World Cup of Hockey as its defending champion but the Ice Bisons have been unable to break through on the regional level having been denied the crown of Atlantian Oceania's Champions of the Ice in the Final of the previous two editions, losing the 9th AOHC to surprise package Efnakia and then losing the most recent AOHC final in Vilita to current World Cup of Hockey hosts the Squornshelan Remnant States.

Ultimately it was no surprise when Gyatso-Kai defeated Vilita and Turori 4-2 in the World Cup of Hockey Round of 32. The Ice Cat Things hadn't looked very strong during the tournament and were likely to be eliminated at some point anyway. With that consideration, it is possible that the early defeat was a blessing for the Ice Cat Things. It allowed the team to return home for a time before retooling their skates and heading out to the AOHC where they would play at the Sallss Arena in Raleigh - the smallest and quietest city in the mountainous Lacfroid. Having already adapted, the Ice-Cat Things were ready to go from the moment the puck dropped against Gyatso-Kai and would get on the board just 3 minutes into the game, setting a tone for the game and never taking their foot off the pedal from there. Though some would argue that Gyatso-Kai were not fielding a full strength squad as they kept their focus on recovery from the World Cup of Hockey, it would matter not to fans of the Ice-Cat Things as their team got the most important result of the group behind them with a 3-0 victory over the top seeded Gyatso-Kai and could now focus on taking care of business against the other nations of the Hakoda Ishii Group including feline rivals Qasden, newcomers Eden and Cambersey and another AOCAF rival, Pluvia and the Saxean Isles. With the top two teams in the group advancing to the Quarter Finals, the Ice Cat Things just need to not lose from this point forward and they will be back competing for their first Regional Title since winning AOHC 7 in Northwest Kalactin.

Melbergian Ice Hockey Team Eye Unlikely Knockout Round Qualification

VILLE DU LAC, LACFROID. Is Ice Hockey Melbergia's new favourite sport? It may sound unlikely, but officials at the Melbergian Ice Hockey Association (MIHA) are said to be overjoyed at the team's recent start to the AO Hockey Championship, with one going on record as describing the team's recent victory over Banija (ranked tenth globally) as 'a potential watershed moment' for the sport.

While ice hockey remains a niche interest, officials are hopeful that a solid performance in this tournament could do wonders for the growth of the game domestically.

"We see it time and time again," explained Melbergian Minister for Sport Jeanette O'Dowd, "when our national team does well in any sport on the international stage it has such a positive impact on interest and involvement at home. The results have been fantastic so far, let's hope we can keep it going - it would be fantastic to see young people becoming engaged in this excellent fast-paced sport."

Whilst considered also-rans at the start of the tournament, the Melbergians have surprised many by picking up victories in their first two group games, and are now in a commanding position atop their group. A win in their next match against Demot would see the side reach the knockout round ahead of sides such as the aforementioned heavy-hitters of Banija.

So what is the secret to their success? It seems even the players themselves are baffled - "I've literally no idea what is going on," laughs forward Rob Bakke, scorer of two of three Melbergian goals in the tournament so far. "We turned up expecting to get smashed by everyone, and yet somehow we've won two out of two. It's crazy. But it feels fantastic, and right now we feel unbeatable. How long that will last? Who can say. But we're just loving life at the moment and we're enjoying this moment while we can."

Head Coach Phil McCaig is wary of the players becoming overconfident. "We've been great so far," he admits, "however there have been elements of luck to our victories and we can't afford to forget the basics. We need to focus so hard on this next game against Demot, win and we're through, but equally a loss could realistically put us out given that our last game is against the strongest performing side in the group [Quebec and Shingoryeo]. After a disappointing result at the World Cup of Hockey played on the Confederacy's own home ice, major changes have been made for the AOHC title defense. Nearly half the World Cup team is left off the roster, replaced by top propects from the various junior hockey leagues of the SRS. The Northern Junior Hockey League, Squornshelan Major Junior Hockey League, Brantid Hockey League, and Molvanian Hockey League are all represented. While the task of taking on several of the world's best teams is a tall one for this collection of teenagers, they will hopefully form the core of future national teams, and hoist trophies of their own.

Leagues of the Squornshelan Junior Hockey Association

Northen Junior Hockey League
The NJHL comprises the best junior teams from Han Dold, East and West Flania, and far northwestern Megabrantis. The traditional birthplace of hockey in the Confederacy, in this region hockey is at least equal to football in popularity. The NJHL and the regions it generally draws its player base from produce a disproportionate number of SHL draftees, particularly when the comparatively low population density of the area is taken into account. The League's teams are divided geographically, and play a 26-game season, with four games played between each pair of division rivals, and two games played interdivisionally. The leading team in each division at the end of the season advances to a best-of-three playoff, and the winner of that series proceeds to the end of year tournament between the four junior league champions for the overall SJHA championship. Historically, the Southern Division has enjoyed the most success (and not coincidentally the most investment), With Han Dold and Han Wavel unsurprisingly the most decorated teams in terms of titles won and all-time point percentages.

Interdivisional Playoff:

Despite perhaps not having the biggest stars in the league on their rosters, Han Wavel and Hrund each had strong seasons. The Harriers were dominant in play against their Southern Division opposition, while Hrund made up for lackluster divisional play by getting it done in interdivisional games. After each team took a one goal victory at home in the playoff series, it was the Reindeer (or Hrundeer as they are often called) who erased and overcame a third-period deficit in the decisive third game to snatch a trip to the SJHA championship from under the Harriers' noses.

Qasden Prevail in Cat-Fight Shootout

Hakoda Ishii Group - Sallss Arena, Raleigh, Lacfroid :: Perhaps the Vilita and Turori Ice Hockey team celebrated a little too hard after their opening matchday victory against top seeded Gyatso-kai which then extended into a bye day for the Ice-Cat Things. When they got back into the rink to face Qasden on Day 3 of Atlantian Oceania Hockey Championships action they had lost that magical scoring touch that had served them so well against the World Cup of Hockey Champions and were instead stuck staring at a shootout against middling Qasden with an extra point on the line to the winner.

Having already dropped 2 points by failing to win in regulation, each team was hoping to recover one. Qasden were already off to a strong start in the AOHC but with only the top two teams advancing and still having a bye day in front of them, the Qads knew their hopes of advancing were likely dependent on winning the shootout especially with the Ice Bisons of Gyatso-Kai having already clipped off a pair of victories to move atop the table in the wake of their opening matchday defeat to Vilita and Turori.

While there were no goals in three periods plus an overtime session at the Sallss Arena, the goals were flowing in the shootout as both teams managed to get the best of their opponents goalkeepers over the first two rounds of the shootout. After both sides missed their next two shots, the decisive goal came from Qasden who would win the shootout 3-2 to take the extra point and move above Vilita and Turori into second place in the Group table. While Vilita & Turori were currently on the outside looking in, they held a strong position in the group with only games against bottom sides Eden and Cambersey, and, Pluvia and the Saxean Isles still to play. A win in both matches for the Ice-Cat Things would assure their progression as Hakoda Ishii Group leaders regardless of the outcome in the final game of the group for Qasden and Gyatso-kai.

Elsewhere in Group Play, the Cocoabo Team that dazed and confused their Vanorian opposition on Matchday 2 could not repeat the feat losing 5-2 to Baker Park while reighning AOHC champions Squornshelan Remnant states found themselves on the back foot despite a shootout victory over Milchama.

[Canadian Dominion]

A lot of coughing by Canadian Dominion fans as momentum is killed due to the 3rd game bye.

After coaching change, the Canadian Dominion hockey club got on the right track with coach Kane Shirley at the helm.

The coach moved and looked at his squad, who had just come off a day of relaxation. Even with staff changing swiftly after the World Cup of Hockey, Canadian Dominion fans were nervous. Still, after the 7-0 shut-out against the Cocoabo Park hockey team, things looked up for the CD geese. This staff change could be the push that Canadian Dominion needs to push past the first round, show the region its new feathers, and show that it won't lay down and die in the Ro16.
