What does the "WA" do?

Postby Polomon Islands » Wed Dec 07, 2022 9:41 am

I want to bring up a question that's been in the black back of my mind, what even happens to nations when a WA Resolution is passed, there are dozens that are against my laws and some that are kind of unnecessary.
Is the WA just a roleplaying UN? with so many resolutions and so many nations, it doesn't seem like a UN, more like 10 Gordon Ramsey's are judging your essay which gets voted on by people that have 200 delegate votes, in which is a clear decision.

the WA is a join-able party. you are required to follow it's laws if you join it. if you are like me, who did not join it, you do not have to follow it's laws.
I’ll make factbooks when I think of shit to write about!

Roleplaying-wise, if you engage in the General Assembly forums you are expected to also roleplay compliance with the laws. Just saying you don't care what's been passed and are going to ignore the laws means very few - if any - people are going to engage with you. If you have stuff in your factbooks that indicates noncompliance some people might take issue with that. That's mostly limited to the General Assembly forums themselves, though. The Security Council is essentially a thing unto itself; it's not even legal for general assembly bills to mention the existence of the SC, but not vice-versa.

Outside of those particular forums, roleplaying compliance is entirely optional really. Nobody is really policing "Global Affairs" to ensure that everyone there who's in the WA is fully compliant with all laws passed by the World Assembly.

The laws themselves gameplay-wise do not effect policies; they're limited to the stated stats of the resolution itself. Take the Religious Freedom bill that just passed, it is "Category: Civil Rights Strength: Significant" which means that its effects are limited to increasing civil rights by a lot with some minor secondary effects (mostly from raising civil rights). It doesn't instantly repeal the Atheism policy or the Theocracy policy for member nations with them; that's outside of its technical scope. It also cannot prevent you from answering issues in a way that restricts religious freedoms.

So yes, it's more or less a roleplaying model UN. If you want to be the delegate of your region there's nothing stopping you from keeping on as you have been.

Ruin your stats.
