New parliament elected

Tamara - As results are still coming in from Saturday's election there are enough votes in to accurately predict the results of the races in districts not yet called. With nearly 95 percent of the votes counted it appears that the Social Democrats will still be the largest party in parliament, with 46 of 145 seats. However, the SDs did lose six seats in the election. There were some major upsets in this election including long time MP Davor Kudelin (SD) losing his seat to Luḱas Resḱavi of the newly formed Democratic League of Agausia.

The parties that faired the best were the Progressive Democrats, New Socialists, Conservative Party of Agausia and the Democratic League of Agausia who were able to pick up eight, six, five and four seats respectively. The Social Democrats, Agausian Liberals, Farmer's and Green's Union, and the United Alliance all lost seats in the election. The United Alliance is expected to win only nine seats, making this the party's poorest performance since their admission into parliament in 1998.

The Protection Party, Rebirth and Renew Party, and Centre Party all lost their seats in the next session of parliament. The PD and the AGP will still be represented in local councils, but the Centre Party has lost all of its political representation both national and locally. The first district of the Zhirs Region, which is represented by Emel Ulvi Biniči (TP), will be represented by Basḱo T́oṕoḱi (PD). This is the same district that current PM Aṕolona Nebisḱopa (SD) represented from 2006 to 2010.

The newly elected parliament will be called into session by the President on the first Monday in February 2023. President Aioviḱara announced that he would wait until the new session of parliament to install a new government, and it is unclear at this time which parties will be able to form a coalition large enough to get them to a 73-seat majority. If the opposition is able to form a majority than Aioviḱara may be forced to install an opposition government, like former presidents Ševčenḱo and Zoriḱini, or he would have to call for fresh election.

No parliament in modern Agausian history has failed to form a government, and failure to do so would represent a detrimental failure of current Social Democratic party's reputation to govern. Snap elections might swing in the favor of the current opposition, who have consistently been united by the National Coalition.

Anti-Socialist Protests Held Across Marzakov
-
Article By: Greg Rubson

Protests were held across the province of Marzakov this past weekend in response to the recent legal crackdowns on the national black market made by the Aumburan government.

Legislators across the district of Marzakov voted in favor of allocating more funding toward law enforcement with the goal of depleting the black market within East Aumbura. The decision was made on the 24th of November, sparking outrage amongst Aumburan citizens in favor of capitalistic reforms.

Protesters took to the streets of several major cities and towns within Marzakov. In the city of Marlesk, demonstrators could be heard chanting phrases like "down with communism" and "death to tyranny".

"The black market is the last beacon of freedom this country has," said Marleskan protester Andre Fruend. "We must live to see the end of communism."

In response to the protests, police presence has been slightly amplified within Marlesk, as well as other major cities in Marzakov. While reports say that most demonstrations have remained peaceful thus far, reports from the city of Yarvor claim that sporadic rioting has occurred. While no deaths have been reported, one Yarvoran police officer is said to be in the hospital after being struck in the head with a glass bottle.

In response to the demonstrations, President Leland Friece has urged any and all protesters to demonstrate peacefully.

"We don't wish to see any violence or harm committed against anyone over the course of these protests," said President Friece. "I deeply value the voices of Aumbura's citizens, including those who may very well disagree with me, and the legislators in Marzakov. It is my belief that the recent budgetary decisions made in Marzakov will greatly benefit all of Aumbura."

Since 2010, Aumbura's black market has experienced a steady decline in prevalence and popularity. It remains to be seen whether or not this trend will continue following recent legislation.

Official FNN Polling: Do you agree with the Marleskan government's decision?:

Yes: 64% - No: 36%

Comments:

Plummer_Xx: I just hope to see no one get hurt.

Art_Baulders: Even as someone who sees great value in the free market, the current black market in Marlesk is filled with illicit activities. Whether you're a socialist or a capitalist, you should be in favor of the decision made by Marleskan legislators.

Aramore445: I wish there was more ground reporting on this topic. So far all I've seen are articles.

President Friece Congratulates Newly Elected Progressives in Agausian Parliament
-
Article By: Greg Rubson

Following parliamentary elections in The Republic of Agausia, the country's Social Democrat party has won a total of 46 of 145 seats. While the party did also lose 6 seats, they have nonetheless been declared the winners of the most amount of parliamentary seats out of any political party. The New Socialists Party also performed well in the election, winning eight seats.

President Leland Friece, and members of his administration, voiced their support for Agausia's new parliament on social media.

"I am very happy with the recent election results within Agausia," said Friece. "I wish to congratulate the country's Social Democratic Party and members of the New Socialists Party on some very important victories."

Vice President Myriam Daranov was similarly supportive of Agausia's election results.

"The people have spoken in Agausia," said Daranov. "Very happy for the newly elected members of the Social Democratic Party, as well as our friends in the New Socialists Party."

Though the Friece administration have been critical of Agausia's human rights record, they have shown continued support for the nation's Social Democrat party, as well as the nation's New Socialists Party, and have voiced hopes that both parties may work together to form a more progressive Agausia.

Official FNN Polling: Are you happy with the Agausian election results?:

Yes: 62% - No: 38%

Comments:

Arial71: Happy to see this as a proud Agausian-Aumburan!

Concernedbeaver: Proud of our socialist brothers in Agausia.

Manker_0: Can't say I'm completely happy with Aioviḱara's record lately, but I suppose a win is a win.

Parmilo-Boldonia City Network

Weather

Weather around Florsid and the Boldonian Capital Territory is looking nice today. In Parmilo we are seeing some thin clouds, but no rain. Highs should be a warm 83° F with lows as low as 66°. Up in northern Florsid there is some rain. There should be some light showers over New Orlando, but nothing major. In the northeast of the state there is some heavier rain, especially over FLD-1. Shifting focus to the BCT there are some clouds, not thin but not thick either.

Looking to the forecast, we predict that these rains up north will move more south bound twords Parmilo. Expect some rain for the coming week. Boldonia City should stay dry for the week until next week, where we predict some light showers.

Parmilo Announces Consolidation With Palm County

Recently the City of Parmilo announced that it would consolidate with Palm County, starting early December. This isn't surprising, as in the last few years Parmilo has grown to encompass 60% of the county's land. So what does this new Parmilo-Palm County entail for its residents? So far it seems that everything will still go as normal, however some plans indicate Palm County may lose 7% of its land in the north to neighboring Levelland County. The Parmilo Police Department and the Palm County Sheriffs Office will also join together to form the Palm County Police Department. Overall Palm County residents who did not previously live in Parmilo should see a slight reduction in taxes, but those who did live in Parmilo proper should see a slight increase for the next few months. Thankfully this is only a slight increase, but still it might have an effect on some of the poorer residents, especially in Little Manila.

National Guard Loses Heavy Weapons

The IRBNG has recently lost a few heavy weapons. Now one out of every 40 Growlers will carry an emerging AT4 launcher instead of the previous one out of 30. Numbers of LAVs per city has also been drastically reduced aswell. From 20 to 12 in Boldonia City, 10 to 6 in Parmilo, 8 to 4 in North Point, 12 to 8 in Norfi City, aswell as other reductions in other cities. However the IRBNG-BCT1, the group tasked with guarding the government center, will have M2HB HMGs installed on all Growlers unlike before where only some had it equipped.

Teaser Trailer For Parmilo Vice Released

In the entertainment sector people across not just this world, but around the multiverse are excited for a new TV series set in Boldonia. Parmilo Vice is being described as the spiritual successor and indirect sequel to Miami Vice that originally aired in the 80s. This new series will be set in Parmilo and focus on two detective's mission to take down a cartel. However fans of the original will be sad to hear that aside from a few cameos no characters from Miami Vice will be returning, hence why it is being described as the spiritual successor rather than the direct sequel. Instead Parmilo Vice will focus on a whole new cast, and new themes are said to be explored. While most people are excited some others are already showing distain for the show, calling it a "Cash grab trying to pander to the nostalgia of older generations." Still as the release trailer has yet to be released we will have to wait and see if their predictions will be true.

Safety Law Passes Congress
Sanford, Flaurita
Published On: 29 November | Authored By: Ellis Chang

School safety advocates celebrated as the Safety in Educational Transit Act, shortened to SETA, passed in both the Senate and the Parliament of Representatives, and heads to President Vukovich’s desk to be signed into law.

The overall objective of the Safety in Educational Transit Act is to improve student safety during the commutes to and from schools across the Federated United States, following a Congressional hearing in August which recounted dangerous situations for students and school buses during the 2021-2022 school year, as well as previous school years. The Safety in Educational Transit Act was first drafted in a joint meeting between the Parliamentary Transit Committee and the Parliamentary Education Committee, and was primarily authored by MPs Harrison Davis (DR, ILN) and Clarence Owens (DR, UTH). The SETA Act was first presented to the Parliament for debate on 4 November and passed to the Senate on 12 November after a successful vote in Parliament. The Senate passed the proposed law today after a four hour deliberation period, sending the SETA Act to the executive branch to be signed. The SETA Act, for all intents and purposes, has essentially been enacted as noted by observers, as President Vukovich has already signaled he would sign the proposed SETA Act into law, and has been a vocal supporter of the bill since initial drafting. The Safety in Educational Transit Act is the first major piece of legislation this year to be passed with near universal support in both houses of Congress.

Under the Safety in Educational Transit Act, passing a school bus with its stop sign extended and warning lights on has been effectively banned, with a ticket of up to 200 UST for doing so for a first time offender, a 300 UST fine and six month suspension for a second time offender, and revocation of a driving license after a third offense on top of a 300 UST fine. The Safety in Educational Transit Act also mandates that school buses come to a complete stop at all railroad junctions, and mandates that school buses may no longer turn right at a red traffic signal. For motorists, the fine for speeding in a designated school zone has been raised from 100 UST to 120 UST, increasing in increments of 60 UST for every 12 kilometers per hour over the speed limit. Furthermore, all traffic violations, such as running a traffic signal or stop sign, now incur a base fine of 120 UST. Several States, such as Alderney, Jersey, Ohio, and Oklahoma, are also reportedly considering bills that would add additional damages if the illegal actions of motorists occur when students are present, such as when to cross the street or when a school bus is turning off school property and onto a road.

In addition to the new regulations placed on the roads, the SETA Act also provides large grants for local governments to install speed cameras and red light cameras on the roadways used for schools. In all, a total of eight billion UST has been earmarked for this program, which will permit both public and private K-12 schools to purchase red light and speed cameras and have them installed. An additional two billion UST has been earmarked for a separate program for universities, although universities will be required to prove that roadways used frequently witness safety violations. In this regard, red light cameras and speed cameras would serve as a deterrent to those would potentially violate road safety laws and a punishment for those who do. Damages collected from violators would be allocated solely to the schools under the SETA Grants, with the exceptions of universities, as an ‘insult to injury’ as suggested by MP Davis, in reference to the harsh penalties for violators. Multiple violations, as mentioned in the enforcement section of the SETA Act, would result in additional fines, as well as suspension and the ultimate revocation of an offender’s driving license, with incarceration potentially possible in egregious circumstances.

Of course, not all have celebrated the passage of the SETA Act. In particular, the Joint Alliance of Concerned Karens Across the Several States lambasted the SETA Act, as an advocacy group infamous for defending behavior that ranges from impolite to downright dangerous. Thankfully, many outside of the alliance have waved off the supposed concerns of the alliance.

MKN: South Sarawak should stop provocations or North Sarawak will stop their provocations
Published On: 30.11.2022/Reporter by Auzari Hadif

KUCHING:The National Security Council (MKN) held a special meeting on the recent provocation by South Sarawak with the launch of the Rentap-1871 missile towards the Natuna Sea last week.

MKN chairman, Datu Patinggi Amar Haji Ghani bin Haji Sabadol said, Sarawak Darulhana strongly condemned the actions of the President of South Sarawak, Afred Jawan who started this provocation only because the Royal Sarawak Darulhana Armed Forces had just finished military training with Turkiye in the Mediterranean Sea on 21 Last November.

we found that the southern side will release several more missiles towards the Natuna Sea which is regulated by Sarawak Darulhana and Indonesia so we ask Afred to stop the provocation or we ourselves will stop the southern side's provocation.

we don't care if we ourselves will stop their provocations through the UN platform or any bloc but we don't want the southerners (South Sarawak) to be embarrassed by us

latest, the Sultan of Sarawak is "angry" about South Sarawak's actions such as challenging His Majesty as the Ruler of the State and the Supreme Leader of the RSDAF Military Force and saying that His Majesty will protect the country's sovereignty and the nation's security.

Confusion in Inhau-Espaln Drags Aristoria Into Mess

Image
Aircraft are waiting on standby (file photo)
What started as a vote of independence in a far-flung country is now escalating into fear and confusion, as authorities in Inhau are now blockading civilian transport to and from the country. This follows a cancelled independence vote for the conquered nation of Espaln, which had been invaded by Inhau under what are believed to be false pretenses, with Inhau officials changing the goal posts for what constitutes and independence vote. The government of Aristoria condemned the original integration of Espaln into Inhau, believe the nation to be the victim of a false-flag operation, and fully supports the right of the Espalnese to self-determination.

However, given the potential for violence and the strong police and military presence, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) arranged for emergency transport for Aristorian citizens wishing to leave the area. In the week since, Inhau has banned transport, something our government is trying to seek exemption to. While most Aristorians were able to leave, a number are left behind despite government-arranged chartered civilian planes and ships awaiting permission to enter.

The government has affirmed it is not seeking to escalate the crisis, but instead is seeking safe passage for Aristorians and foreigners still in Inhau-Espaln. DFAT officials have not confirmed what the next steps are, should the request for safe transit be denied.

President Friece, Aumburan Activists Commend "Progress" in Aristoria
-
Article By: Kevin Spietler

On the 19th of November, the Aristorian Supreme Court struck down a ban on same-sex marriage with a vote of 8-1. The court ruled that the ban was unconstitutional according to section 10 of the country's constitution.

Many LGBTQ+ activists took to the streets of Aristoria to celebrate the decision, with activist groups in Aumbura also celebrating the landmark decision.

"This is a big victory for progress, humanity, and human rights," said Aumburan LGBTQ+ activist Adrien

Rallies were held in Laer were held commemorating the ruling. Similar celebrations took place in Freremacht, where the city announced that it would be holding a pride parade in commemoration of the Supreme Court's decision. Both Laer and Freremacht are estimated to house more Aristorian immigrants than any other cities in Aumbura.

Following the Aristorian Supreme Court's ruling, President Leland Friece took to Twitter to commend the Aristorian Supreme Court, and congratulate Aristoria's LGBTQ+ population.

"I am very pleased with the decision made today by the Aristorian Supreme Court," said Friece. "The rights of LGBTQ+ people should be secure in every nation across this Earth. I wish to not only congratulate the Aristorian government, but also the many Aristorian activists who have spent years fighting for this very ruling."

This ruling comes amid a wave of progress for LGBTQ+ citizens worldwide, as countries like Rhoutaan and Burikkan have sought to also expand LGBTQ+ protections. Support is big in Aristoria as well, as it is estimated that approximately 70% of Aristorian citizens believe that LGBTQ+ people should have the right to marry.

Official FNN Polling: Do you agree with the Aristorian Supreme Court's ruling?:

Yes: 88% - No: 12%

Comments:

Gaerewich: I teared up when I heard of the ruling. I am incredibly happy for our brothers and sisters in Aristoria.

StefonSaints: My father is a gay man who immigrated from Aristoria just 13 years ago. I don't think I've ever seen him more emotional than he was when he heard of this.

Readal993: Hello from Aristoria!

Parmilo-Boldonia City Network

Weather
We are seeing some small showers over Parmilo today, nothing major but still probably best to postpone that beach trip for tomorrow. Boldonia City is staying dry, but next week there should be some heavier rain. Rest of Florsid and the BCT is dry, we don't expect much rain next week.

National Population Reaches 8 Million
In national news the population of Boldonia has reached the milestone of 8 million. While by no means the biggest in the world, this is still a sizable number. Most of this growth has come from the south of the country most especially in Palm County. In the north however population numbers seem to be dwindling as more people move from the north to the sunny south. All except North Point which is still seeing some good growth due to North Point International Airport being a regional hub for several cargo airlines. Our population is still growing, but for now it seems that the "Independence Rush" as it was called has finally died down.

Port of Parmilo Begins To Register First Multiversal Ships
The Port of Parmilo in conjunction with the Boldonian Maritime Authority recently opened up Parmilo for multiversals to register their ships in. So far we have two ships present in the port doing sea trials, a cargo ship and a cruise ship. As multiversal ships are required to fly a solid purple flag while in-universe many are already using the term "Purple Flag" to describe multiversal ships. In terms of other things happening at POP, Royal Caribbean's terminal construction is going steadily, Norwegian's Pride of America has left for Hawaii, and as its last act before county consolidation takes place the city council is debating whether or not to name the Port of Parmilo Bridge.

Whole Wave Of Boldonian Media Rocks Entertainment Industry
Parmilo Vice seems to not be the only thing slated for 2023. A whole wave of trailers for various Boldonian themed TV shows and movies have been released over the week. Let's give you a rundown of two of the titles the entertainment industry seems to be talking about.

Simmons: The trailer for Simmons just released yesterday. The movie is based of a true story and hopes to tell the story of Gregory Simmons, leader of the southern front of the Boldonian Resistance during Japanese Occupation and de facto leader of the entire resistance, and the so called "Sidelined Struggle" fought by the resistance which is often forgotten and overshadow by US military efforts in Boldonia.

Meteor Gate: This movie will focus on the efforts of the Meteor Gate project's efforts in exploring the multiverse. Supposedly it will cover the entire project from its conception to its start in the 80s and finally its use being authorized by the UN.

INHAU NEWS - NO. 1

Postby Inhau » Fri Dec 02, 2022 4:20 pm

INHAU GOVERNMENT NEWS

ISSUE NO. 1

Yesterday, revolutions swept across Inhau while the government lifted the blockade on ports and airports. Today, the Congress of Inhau met for its first meeting. The topic of the meeting was on reorganizing and restructuring the military and government. Congress decided to suspend the Inhauan Nationalist Party from power, later that day the Supreme Court was chosen as well. Currently, there is over 220 members of the former Inhauan Government accused of placing orders related to/or perpetrating crimes against humanity and war crimes. Espaln is waiting to be freed, with the last holdouts of the Nationalist government being cleared by militias.

In other news, 1000s of files that were spread by the former Inhuan intelligence Agency were found to be false, foreign affairs will handle the rest of the confusion shortly. Some are speculating that there was information hidden from the public before the liberation. There was, infact, confirmed evidence of the Espalniolv Nuclear accident having happened in 2009, did indeed spread radiation. More information will be coming soon.

Thank you for tuning in, have a great day!

Independent audit of Defence Force reveals $5bn in assets "unaccounted for"
Christchurch, Drongonia

The results of an independent audit of Defence Force assets have left some within the Government scratching their heads as the Ministry of Defence struggles to account for over $5bn in "unaccounted for" assets.

The audit, which took months to undertake and was conducted by independent accounting firms in collaboration with the Inland Revenue Department, found that several billions in assets including firearms, vehicles and IT equipment were missing or had been severely overvalued during their last audit, conducted in 2017. Government departments are audited every five years. The Defence Force's 2017 audit showed no irregularities as well as what was characterised as being "an acceptable level of asset depreciation".

After 800 auditors combed through DDF's almost $300 billion in assets and $200 trillion in liabilities, officials found that the Ministry of Defence, which controls the Defence Force, couldn’t account for about 1.5 percent of its assets, Ministry of Defence spokesman Mike Todd told reporters on Friday. Todd said the Ministry will continue making progress towards a “clean” audit. “I wouldn't say that 1.7% of the assets being unaccounted for means a failure of our systems, but there's definitely room for improvement. The process is important for us to do, and it is making us get better." he said.

Labour leader Sarah Ellice, however, disagreed with that notion. "The idea that the DDF can just hide $5 billion worth of assets and get away with a slap on the wrist is just absurd. $5 billion is not a paltry sum, imagine how many hospitals and schools we could build with that", she said to reporters outside Parliament, continuing "...and this is coming from the supposed party of "financial responsibility". The DDF never failed an audit under Labour's governance."

Defence Minister Scott Morris fronted media on Friday afternoon, defending the DDF. "It sounds like a lot, but in context, it's not that bad. Less than two percent of the assets being unaccounted for is quite good, if you think of it", Morris told reporters. He continued, "The Defence Force is a mammoth enterprise, with assets and bases and people stationed all around Drongonia, as well as the entire world. Remember, this is everything they have being counted - 'turn out your pockets and have the lint weighed' stuff."

Human rights activists fear that the missing equipment could be used in nefarious ways, as its location is currently unaccounted for. Julie Bergh, an Amnesty International spokesperson, told TVDG "There's a good chance the Drongonian Government could start using these guns on civilians of whatever country they want, including ours, because nobody can account for them." She then posed the question "Who knows if a jeep full of armed thugs leaves the base and kills someone if none of the vehicles and guns are registered properly?"

The full results of the audit are expected to be released this coming week. Inland Revenue will also be conducting its own review of the audit to use the findings to improve its own auditing processes. Another follow-up audit is not expected, with the next one expected to take place in 2027.

Minister of Defence Scott Morris was unavailable for direct comment when approached by TVDG.

Voriaye, Daria-Habbol Voted Most Popular Progress Party Candidates
-
Article By: Andre Oddsler

With the 2024 presidential election on the horizon, Fischer News Network in collaboration with the Aumburan Center for Nationwide Polling has begun polling Aumbura's voter base on who they wish to see be Aumbura's next president. On the 15th of November, a poll was issued to all registered voters for The Progress Party asking them who they wished to see be the party's next presidential nominee. Voters were forced to choose from a selection of 5 possible candidates.

According to the results of the poll, with around 33% of the vote, Oman Voriaye is the most popular option amongst The Progress Party's voter base to be 2024's presidential nominee.

A Rwandan immigrant, Voriaye would be the first ever African-Aumburan to become an officially recognized party's presidential nominee if he was chosen in 2024.

Voriaye has been an Aumburan senator for a period of 5 years now, and previously served as the mayor of Fairbruk for a period of 6 years. Over the course of his political career, he has been a staunch advocate for lowering Aumbura's military budget, drug legalization, and tightening Aumbura's gun restrictions.

Just trailing Voriaye with 29% of the votes was Amelia Daria-Habbol. Behind her was Luka Varialdski with 20%, Peter Starg with 13%, and Karyl Duckt with 5%.

In response to the polls, Voriaye took to Twitter to thank supporters of The Progress Party.

"I wish to thank my supporters for their constant encouragement," said Voriaye. "I am very humbled, and very pleased by the results of the recent polls conducted by the Aumburan Center for Nationwide Polling."

Voriaye plans on holding a rally at the Lupanya Convention Center on Monday the 5th. As of now, Voriaye has not announced an intent to run for president in 2024. Some speculate whether or not he will announce his decision to run or not run on Monday.

Ottoman-era shipwreck found off coast of Agausia
Author: T́anâ Amkvevi
Saturday, December 3, 2022

Odssa - A small team of Agausian and European researchers, scientists, and archeologists surveying a sector of the Black Sea off of the coast of Agausia's Dasavletis Island made a remarkable discovery. An extremely well-preserved Ottoman-era shipwreck was found at depths of around 1600m in the Black Sea in Agausia's territorial waters. The crew made the discovery while mapping the floor of the sea with sonar and remotely operated vehicles.
block

"Originally we were here to study the impacts of climate change in Agausia’s Black Sea waters. There were also researchers studying the impact of sea-level change after the latest glacial cycle, which ended about 15,000 years ago." Professor Niḱo Makmaniže, who led the research team, told reporters.
block

The ship's cargo content remains unknown, and the team says more funding and time is required if they are to return to the site and uncover more about the wreck. "As archaeologists we're interested in what it can tell us about technology, trade and movements in the area," said Bulgarian researcher Dimitar Petrov Mihailov.
block

The reason the trading vessel, dating back to around the early 14th century, has remained in such good condition for so long is that the water is anoxic, or free of oxygen. Lying more than 1,000m below the surface, it is also beyond the reach of modern divers.

Ramont́i steps down as Party Chair of United Alliance
Author: Ant́oni Leǵvi
Sunday, December 4, 2022

Image

Tamara - On Saturday, one week after the 2022 parliamentary election, the United Alliance (GA) held a party meeting at their headquarters in Tamara. It was at that meeting that Kalul Ramont́i made the much-anticipated announcement that he would be stepping down as party chair effective immediately. Ramont́i's departure comes amid pressure from within the party following the GA's poor performance in the 2022 elections. Overall, the GA will lose nine seats in the next session of parliament. Five of the MPs lost their reelection bids, and four right-leaning MPs split from the party and formed the new Democratic League of Agausia (ADL). This marks the party's worst performance since their admittance into parliament in 1998. This follows Ramont́i's failed presidential bid in the 2022 election.

Despite Ramont́i's resignation being imminent and obvious, in the last week the MP vehemently denied that he would be stepping down. On the Tuesday following the election Ramont́i told reporters, "My work is not done. In the world of politics when you stumble you just have to get up and move on. I look forward to coalition talks and to have the ability to continue to serve the Agausian people." When he was confronted about the fact that many in his own party were calling for him to step down, he answered more sternly, "I have no intention of it." However, an open letter signed by several MPs, a governor and seventeen regional councilors calling for Ramont́i's resignation ultimately forced his hand.

Kalul Ramont́i first entered politics back in the early 70s but had to flee Agausia after being arrested for publishing anti-Soviet propaganda in 1978. He sought asylum in France but returned to Agausia after the country declared its independence. The following year Ramonti was given permission to run for parliament for the 2nd Agausian Parliament (1992 – 1994). Running as a Progressive Democrat he won with 78% of the vote. For the 2000 parliamentary elections Ramont́i switched his party registration and joined the United Alliance. He was then elected party chair in 2018 and nominated for a presidential run in 2021.

Party members will have until 12 December to vote for a new party chair. Among the candidates in the running are, Lumir Dvoršaḱi of Tamara's second district, Valeri T́amarḱini of Tamara's tenth district and Megobris regional Governor Ḱet́ Olëniḱi. Whichever candidate receives the most votes will the elected the next party chair.

Leaked emails suggest Labour's Sarah Ellice may "step back from the fore" in 2023
Christchurch, Drongonia
December 5, 2022 | Daniel Masterson

Labour Party" when asked by TVDG reporters today.

Emails obtained by TVDG suggest that the current leader of the Labour Party, Sarah Ellice may be looking to "step back from the fore" in 2023, seemingly suggesting she may look to step down from her position as leader.

First elected unopposed following former Prime Minister Robert Jacobson's sudden departure from the party post-2016 election, Ellice led a spirited, although ultimately unsuccessful election campaign in 2020, where Labour secured 55 seats, one of the highest totals ever in Drongonian history for an unsuccessful opposition party. Pundits praised Ellice for breathing life and energy back into a party that had been massively trailing in the polls, with the freshly-elected National Party enjoying a sizeable honeymoon post-2016.

However, the emails, leaked to TVDG by an anonymous Labour Party insider, reveal that Ellice may be losing the energy that she brought to the party in 2016, and doesn't want to risk taking the now competitive party down with her. The emails, sent between senior figures in the party's management, reference Sarah Ellice by name and suggest she may "step back from the fore" next year, presumably to give her replacement adequate time to get comfortable with the role before the 2024 election.

In one email, an MP suggests that "the election needs to be slick", likely referencing a leadership election. The MP went on to say "we can't have more than say, 3 candidates - otherwise things get messy." Those close to Labour insiders believe that the three potential candidates would consist of current deputy leader Rebecca Brown, Immigration spokesman James Bayley, and a third unknown, likely to be either relative new blood Phoebe Schofield or veteran Policing spokesman Kenneth Wang.

When asked about the emails, Ellice simply responded that she had "no current plans to leave the Labour Party" adding that she "will absolutely be leading the party in future." When asked about the prospect of a change of leadership, top Labour MPs remained tight-lipped. Deputy leader Rebecca Brown told media that she "won't entertain the idea of a leadership change" and that "you approaching me right now is the first I've heard of it."

If a leadership change within the Labour Party was to take place, political analysts believe the party will pull it off before the end of January next year, to give the new leader the best possible chance to get comfortable with the role, and to resonate with the public. Pessimists within the party would also be put somewhat at ease, with more than 18 months being ample time for a second replacement leader if things were to go pear-shaped with the first.

Others believe, however, that Ellice will stay on as leader into 2024. TVDG Political Analyst Duncan Yarner noted that Ellice has the highest personal approval rating of any Labour leader in the last two decades. When TVDG asked voters what they thought of both Ellice and Prime Minister English in early November, voters rated both of them highly, giving Ellice a 60% approval rating, behind English by only a single percent. "This suggests that the leader doesn't need to change, the party does." said Yarner. "When you've got an opposition leader who can trade blows with the sitting Prime Minister, but their party trails by ten percent, is it really the leader that needs to go? No, it's the radical policies people don't like."

When asked by TVDG, Prime Minister English said he "would be sad to see Sarah [Ellice] go", but that he "will be fighting for Drongonia and Drongonians in 2024 no matter who we're up against, Sarah Ellice or someone else."

Dunedin motorist shoots motorcyclist after being cut off on motorway
Dunedin, Drongonia
December 6, 2022 | Alex Sheffield

incident this morning. Photo // DGTA Traffic Camera

Dunedin's motorists got an unexpected shock along their morning commutes today, with gunfire ringing out on the city's usually-mundane Northern Motorway at around 7:30am, past the Beaufort Street exit.

The gunshots were allegedly fired from what witnesses described as a "silver Toyota hatchback, likely a Blade II or Corolla." following an altercation with a motorcyclist. Witnesses say the motorcyclist cut the silver hatchback off in the middle of a lane change maneuver. The driver of the hatchback then sped up to get alongside the motorcyclist and may have attempted to push the man off of his motorcycle.

Video obtained exclusively by TVDG then shows the motorcycle rider retrieving what appears to be a machete from the inside of his jacket and waving it at the hatchback. The driver of the hatchback then appears to point a pistol out the window in the direction of the motorcyclist, before pulling the trigger and firing three times. Two bullets missed the man and are believed to have landed in the bay that runs alongside the motorway, one bullet struck the man in the arm. The man was then taken Dunedin Northern Hospital where he is now in a stable condition and receiving treatment.

In a statement released by Dunedin Police via Peaker, they confirmed an arrest had been made in relation to the incident at around Midday. "Police took a 28-year-old man into custody in relation to the alleged firearms incident that occurred near Beaufort Street this morning." Police also reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the public, saying that "Police are not seeking anyone further in relation to the incident at this time."

Police also confirmed that they are holding the man on firearms-related charges, as well as a charge of grievous bodily harm causing injury. Police and officials from the Drongonian Transport Agency closed the motorway while a scene examination was conducted, which caused a significant traffic backlog. Police and DGTA did not reopen both northbound lanes and restore the flow of traffic until around lunchtime.

Dunedin has not seen a firearms incident of this nature since 2012, when a man was arrested for brandishing a shotgun in traffic. However, nobody was hurt during that incident.

Electoral Commission says "democracy in danger", demands raft of changes be implemented pre-2024
Dunedin, Drongonia
December 7, 2022 | Dawn Christiansen

The report has recommended over fifty changes be
made to the electoral system in Drongonia.
Photo // DEC.dg

Drongonia's independent electoral monitoring and management entity has released a ninety-page report today slamming the current electoral system in Drongonia and recommending over fifty changes, saying that the nation's democratic institutions are "in danger" if more is not done to secure and bolster public trust in elections.

The report, which has been in progress since May 2021, highlights what it calls "systemic failures" in the way the Electoral Commission has run the 2016 and 2020 General Elections, with what the report describes as "a large portion" of the failures also carrying over to the recent 2022 Local Government Elections. The report also states that these failures may have "seriously undermined the outcomes" of the aforementioned elections.

The area the report centres on the most is the funding of both political parties and independent candidates. Currently, the governing party is entitled to a maximum of $75m of taxpayers' funds to finance its re-election campaigns, and a maximum of $5m per electorate in the event that it must contest a by-election. Additionally, the party is entitled to $1m per mayoral candidate it would like to sponsor in Local Government Elections, and $250,000 per candidate it wishes to sponsor for a local Government's council campaign.

In comparison, opposition parties are entitled to $1m of campaign funds per elected Member of Parliament, capped at a maximum of $50m per election cycle. In contrast, in the event of contesting a by-election, opposition parties are allocated between $100,000 and $1,000,000, dependent on the number of elected Members of Parliament the party has. In the current context of Parliament, this would mean the National Party would be entitled to $5m to contest a by-election, with Labour being entitled to the maximum $1m, and the Green and Libertarian parties being entitled to approximately $120,000. Additionally, opposition parties are also capped at $475,126 per mayoral candidate and $86,341 per local council candidate, less than half of the governing party's allocation.

The report also condemns what it highlights as a "severe under-investment in civics education". While Civics is taught in secondary school from ages 16 - 18, the subject is not compulsory and is only included as a two-week module as part of Economics, Accounting, Business Studies, Social Studies, and History. Formerly, Civics was its own year-long subject, but this was changed by the current National Government in 2017 as part of its efforts to restructure secondary school education.

The DEC's report also recommends overturning the 2019 ban instituted on electronic voting machines. The report says the automated aspect of electronic voting machines is "extremely important to ensure integrity and robustness in the vote-counting process", also stating that the machines' sole purpose is to "eliminate any and all human contact with ballots, removing any possibility of tampering, bias, unintentional errors, or any other 'human-factor' element" during the casting and counting of votes. Electronic vote counters used to tabulate paper ballots are not banned, however.

When pressed for comment on the report, Prime Minister English responded that "most of it is overblown" and that "democracy is not in danger in Drongonia, simply because our elections are free and fair - and there is no coercing of voters." He added "...and buying electronic vote machines will not change that." Labour leader Sarah Ellice, however, said that "If I were English right now, I'd be making as many of these changes as humanly possible before 2024 - just cramming them through Parliament. Why? Well who's going to trust a man who's snubbing his nose at the independent electoral authority?"

Parliament will formally debate the recommendations set out in the report next week.

DMZ Coverage Report: What is happening in the frozen soil?

Image
052D class destroyer approaching port.
On December 1, the authorities of the DMZ in Kamchatka and Chong Qing invited reporters from SBC, YNN, and HTN to authorize coverage of the DMZ. In response, our SBC dispatched reporters along with YNN and HTN to report.

During the Kamchatka-Russia War, which ended on the 3rd, Chong Qing declared a demilitarized zone (DMZ) in the southern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The reason for the DMZ's declaration was to remove anarchy in southern Kamchatka, treat injuries on both sides of Russia and Kamchatka, and protect the safety of the Kamchatka people.

Currently, most of them have withdrawn, but when reporters arrived at the DMZ, some troops remained to protect refugees.

According to a soldier from the Chong Qing Volunteer Army, they "treated hundreds of wounded soldiers on the first day and stabilized the area by overpowering local gangs. It also supplied food and medical supplies to refugees who had escaped the war."

In fact, The Chong Qing Volunteer Army seems to have contributed to regional stability to some extent by overpowering local gangs and accepting refugees. "The soldiers gave us bedding, tents, and supplies," one refugee stated.

Currently, there are fewer than 10,000 troops from the Chong Qing Volunteer Army in the DMZ.

They are known to be currently performing tasks such as regional stability and protecting the DMZ. However, tensions in the region are rising again as the recent coup in Kamchatka is expected to significantly increase its forces.

The government's economic growth project in the northern part of the country pays off

Image
Won Po Port, the largest port in the northern part of the Seorabeol Federation.
The government's economic growth project in the northern part of the country has been found to have achieved some results. In 2021, the northern region accounted for only 25% of the total economy of the Seorabeol Federation, but as of December this year, the northern region already accounted for more than 27% of the total national economy.

This is an increase of 2% in a year since the project began to be promoted. Meanwhile, the government has pledged to increase the proportion of economic output in the northern region to 30% of the total national economy by 2025.

Oman Voriaye Announces Presidential Candidacy
-
Article By: Andre Oddsler

During a rally this past Monday at the Lapunya Convention Center, district senator Oman Voriaye announced his intent to run for president in 2024.

"My goal has always been to aid Aumbura, and its citizens," said Voriaye. "I've done it as a senator, and I hope to do it on a larger scale. That is why, I am announcing my intent to run for president in 2024."

The announcement comes following a national poll which revealed that a majority of voters for The Progress Party wished to Voriaye become the party's next presidential nominee.

Voriaye becomes the 6th Progress Party member to announce their bid for the presidency. Amelia Daria-Habbol, Voriaye's main competitor, announced her intent to run around 2 months ago.

Voriaye, a former member of The Liberty Party, is running on a platform of gun control, demilitarization, and increased funding for healthcare.

In response to Voriaye's announcement, attendees at his rally expressed excitement.

"I'm very happy with the news", said voter Henry Jebbers. "I've long been a supporter of Voriaye. He can really help our great nation reach new heights."

Should Voriaye become the Progress Party's nominee, he would be the first ever African-Aumburan to be a registered party's presidential nominee.

Agausia to adopt new gambling laws
Author: Niḱo Šriberi
Thursday, December 8, 2022

Image

Tamara - With the Agausian parliament ending its tenth session on Friday, the legislature seems poised to pass legislation that could further restrict gaming establishments in the Eastern European nation. The legislation, introduced in November 2021, is the lates effort by Agausian politicians to crack down on illegal betting parlors and casino gaming across the country. Policymakers have been trying to limit illegal gambling activities for nearly a decade, but the industry is a major employer in the Agausian tourism industry.
block

Proponents of the bill argue that many Agausian are struggling financially and that it is far too easy for people to cash their paychecks and head to the nearest betting property and lose it all. They also claim gambling addiction is on the rise and is responsible for an increasing suicide rate.
block

Those opposing the legislation argue that Agausia has already made advances in terms of regulating the gambling, including higher license taxes on operators and a recent move to boost the minimum gambling age in the country to 21 from 18. Additionally, opponents of the bill claim policymakers are not targeting the right type of establishments.
block

The legislation would ban all betting outside of physical casinos and create designated betting establishments across the country. This officially bans the practice of online gambling, something that had been on the rise in Agausian cities. Assuming the proposed bill is signed into law, it would also lead to the removal of electronic gaming and slot machines found at undesignated establishments such as gas stations and local markets.

Parmilo-Palm County Completes Consolidation Process
This morning the flag of Parmilo-Palm County was raised on the flagpoles in front of the Parmilo-Palm County Municipal Building in a ceremony. Several influential figures were present at the ceremony including the Secretary of Transportation and Secretary of Tourism. With the consolidation the City of Parmilo and Palm County are officially joined into one entity. This shouldn't surprise anyone, as in the last two decades Parmilo has been buying up and annexing areas around Palm County, with the city owning 83% of the county's land pre-consolidation. This has the potential to bring big changes to Parmilo, however the new unified government has stated they wish to not effect the Parmilo resident's life too much.

Multiversal Discrimination Case Taken To Boldonian Supreme Court
In late November a non-human multiversal tourist from a far off multiversal nation was arrested when they got back to Parmilo International Airport on charges of illegal entry. Reportedly when they were about to enter the main concourse they were stopped by an officer from the Parmilo Police Department and asked to present documentation, before they even entered the building. The multiversal known only by the last name Houletna obliged, however when the documentation was presented the officer reportedly did not think the nation the tourist was from was a real place, and that the tourist also didn't go through the proper routes for non-human visa.
The officer then proceeded to handcuff the tourist, two National Guard soldiers nearby also moved to the seen carrying a tranquilizer weapon. When the tourist understandably started to shiver out of fear, reportedly, the law enforcement officers took it as though the tourist was preparing to bite and a tranquilizer dart was fired into the tourist's neck. Once the tourist woke up in a jail cell they contacted family who promptly hired a lawyer to sue the Parmilo Police Department for discrimination and unjust treatment, something illegal in Boldonia. It eventually moved up to the Boldonian Supreme Court, where court proceedings are scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Possible Renaming of the Port of Parmilo Bridge?
The Port of Parmilo Bridge, which carries Port Avenue from downtown Parmilo to the Port of Parmilo, has long gone without a name. But now there has been talk of possibly naming the bridge after something. It has not been confirmed it the bridge is to be renamed, but the Mayor of Parmilo-Palm County says he has already gotten several emails from Parmilo residents on what they think the bridge should be named. Tomorrow the Parmilo-Palm County is set to discuss and vote on whether or not to rename the bridge.

Labour's Sarah Ellice announces she will step down as party leader "effective January 31st 2023"

In a shock announcement during a Parliamentary Break today, Leader of the Opposition and Labour Party, Sarah Ellice, told media that she is looking to step down as the leader of the party in 2023.

During the announcement, she said that she "felt the time was right to step back from the leadership, and pass it to someone who can carry on with the passion and grit that it takes to hold this Government to account." When asked whether she would retire from Parliament entirely, she responded without hesitation, "No, definitely not. I was elected not only to take the Government to task, but to fight for the people of Nelson. That's a duty that I take very seriously and won't be giving up any time soon."

When pressed for a potential endorsement for a successor, she said that was "not on the cards at this stage" and that it was far too early to call a leadership race. When asked whether they would entertain a leadership run, several senior Labour MPs declined to comment, with Defence spokesperson Eric Hall retorting "Are you insane? If she [Sarah Ellice] died would you ask me to jump in her grave just as quick?"

Some, however, were more receptive. Relative newcomer and potential candidate Langofrd MP Phoebe Schofield said she "wouldn't rule out a run" if the time was right. Similarly, Labour veteran and longtime Policing spokesperson Kenneth Wang said that he'd "definitely consider it, if enough of the party said I should go for it." During her announcement, Ellice forwent any mention of a leadership race, although it will be somewhat inevitable unless Ellice directly nominates a replacement that the caucus agrees on.

Some believe that Ellice stepping down is a mistake.

When asked by TVDG, Prime Minister English said he "will be sad to see Sarah [Ellice] go", and that he "will miss the spirited and heated debates across the Parliament floor." He continued to say, however, that he was "confident that Labour will nominate someone competent and up to the task."

Shooting at Presidential Palace Injures Six Reporters, President Friece
-
Article By: Peter Sydder

This past Thursday, President Leland Friece was preparing to give a speech regarding the recently passed Safety in Public Transport Bill in front of the Presidential Palace, when a gunman opened fire on a crowd of reporters gathered in front of Friece's podium.

Six reporters as well as President Friece were struck before the suspect was shot dead by members of the Secret Service. Of the 6 affected reporters, 2 are reported to have died, while the other 4 are currently hospitalized in critical condition.

President Friece was reportedly struck twice, once in the stomach and once in the thigh. His condition is currently unknown.

Police say that the assailant, 33 year old Dwight Volden, was able to enter the event using expired press credentials. Just days before the attack, Volden was fired from his position as a reporter for The Oran Times, but managed to hold on to his badge. Police say that they do not believe the attack to have been politically motivated, and say that President Friece was merely caught in the crossfire.

Volden used an automatic sub-machine gun in the attack, apparently bringing through security in small pieces before reconstructing it in a bathroom. According to records, Volden had acquired the gun legally 4 years before.

Upon searching Volden's house, police say that they have found a lengthy journal entry in which Volden called Aumbura's press "corrupt" and vowed to "make them face consequences". The entry was dated the day of Volden's firing.

This shooting is Aumbura's deadliest in four years, and has caused some to call for stricter gun regulation.

"These are the consequences of widespread gun ownership," said Progress Party Senator Katelin Raddock.

No other members of President Friece's administration were injured, nor were any members of The Secret Service. Vice President Myriam Daranov wished President Friece and his family well.

"President Friece and his family are in my thoughts and in my heart," said Daranov. "Leland is more than a colleague. He is a dear, dear friend."

Houletna v. Parmilo-Palm County Police Department Trial Continues, IRBNG Moves to Protect Supreme Court
The controversial Houletna v. Parmilo-Palm County Police Department trial is still underway with both sides making their cases to the Supreme Court. In response to possibility of civil unrest if the case goes a certain way, the Independent Republic of Boldonia National Guard has closed Court Avenue between Florida Avenue and Berlin Street, enforcing a roadblock with photos even showing a LAV-25 being parked right in front of the Supreme Court. Aswell security around Embassy Lane East, where multiversal embassies are located, has also tightened with M1114 Humvees being deployed instead of the normal lightly armored M1161 Growler.

Boldonian Department of State Decides to Suspend All Multiversal Visas for Non-Humans
With the Houletna v. Parmilo-Palm County Police Department trial underway, and attention being brought to the treatment of non-human multiversal tourists, the Boldonian Department of State has recently announced the suspension of any current and future Multiversal Visas for any non-human travelers wishing to enter Boldonia's universe. The DOS did also say any fees paid will be refunded, but also that all non-humans currently within Boldonia's universe have 36 hours to leave.

Parmilo-Palm County Council Desides Against Renaming the Port of Parmilo Bridge
As quickly as it was brought up, the potential bridge renaming has gone away. The Port of Parmilo Bridge will remain generally named and not named after any significant figures. It was decided that Parmilo-Palm County already had enough bridges named after people in the form of the three causeways, those being the Nimitz Causeway, Simmons Causeway, and Ferdinand Magellan Causeway.
