Your nation's name The Maidas
Your nation's (IC, non-NS) population Estimated at 48,044,870 in Q3 2022

Speeds and Sensibilities
What unit of measurement do your roads use to measure speed? Kilometres per hour.
What is the open-road speed limit in your nation? 100 km/h for motorways, up to 90 km/h for rural roads, up to 55 km/h in built-up area roads.
Are there any areas of your national road network that don't have a speed limit? No, although speed limit enforcement is generally more lax on rural roads.
What do you call your motorway network? (ie State Highways, National Highways etc) Single-carriage roads are called autoroutes, and are generally identified by alphanumeric code A(1-99).
Are your nation's citizens keen to use your nation's highways? In rural or low-population areas, one doesn't have much of a choice, but in urban or high-population areas there is an increasing trend towards public transit within cities and train usage between cities.

Safety Enforcement
Which government department or agency is responsible for enforcing road safety? At the federal level, the Federal Police Unit, a subdivision of the Secretariat of Justice.
What kind of vehicles do your nation's traffic enforcement use? (Feel free to include a picture but please use a spoiler) The majority are sedan cars, but there are motorbikes, trucks, and armoured cars part of the entourage as well. Most are contracted from local manufacturers Spiritus or Cardinal, though in recent years you've seen some Fords and Chevys in the mix.
What are the penalties for exceeding the speed limit on the open road? You're generally looking at €50 per demerit "point" (10 km/h) above the speed limit, up to €250. This is doubled in construction zones and school zones. Beyond 50 km/h, if you end up getting more than ten demerit points, or if combined with another offence (i.e. driving while intoxicated), you're looking at summary offence charges, which won't land you in prison but will land you heftier fines and probably a suspended licence or forced counselling of some kind.
How prevalent are fixed speed cameras in your nation? Increasingly uncommon because of citizen tracking efforts to detect speed traps, as well as vandalism.
How prevalent are mobile speed cameras in your nation? Increasingly common due to the above, especially on motorways.

The State of the Roads
Is your nation's road network in good condition? Motorways are generally very well-maintained, as the relatively mild climate of the archipelago and the relatively straightforward construction of these roads makes their maintenance and repair relatively straightforward. In local setting, road conditions can vary widely; Santa Maria and Montenuovo (in the state of Axacán) are known for particularly poor city roads, while rural areas may have questionable paving and signing practices.
Which government department or agency is in charge of maintaining your nation's roads? The Secretariat of Transport and Infrastructure has ultimate responsibility for the nation's road network, in conjunction with state government agencies.
How common are roadworks on your nation's busiest stretches of road? The goal is a month's worth of preventative work per half-kilometre every five years; the goal is somewhat irregularly met.
Is there some way your nation's commuters can view road closures/roadworks before taking a journey? Certainly! Social media has been a useful tool for this, but we also put out signs and detour pathways some distance away from the roadworks.
How bad is traffic congestion in your nation's major cities? Despite the increasing popularity of train networks, traffic congestion is still pretty awful in most of the nation's cities. This is especially true in Moritzburg (due to the sheer size of the city), Santa Maria (due to size and the aforementioned awful road network), and Saint-Esprit (due to size and the non-grid layout).

Accidents
How common are road accidents in your nation? At an average rate of 5 per 100,000 inhabitants yearly, road fatalities are quite low by global standards, though somewhat high by EU standards. The 2018 total of 32,065 serious road-related injuries was the second-highest in the EU; it's questionable how much of this can be attributed to mountainous topography around roadways.
Are your nation's open roads generally considered safe to travel on? Yes, so long as you're driving at least 10 km/h above the speed limit. The rather low speed limits on the national network were instituted, in fact, as a way to counteract speeding, which Maideans love doing by and large.
How well do your nation's emergency services respond to motor accidents? You're probably gonna get emergency help within 10 minutes of an accident, frequently sooner, on a motorway. Urban areas and rural areas alike tend to have to wait longer, due to congestion (in urban areas) or sheer lack of density (in rural areas).
Are people who (either intentionally or unintentionally) cause road accidents forbidden to drive? Depends on the summary offence, but the indictable offence of "vehicular manslaughter" does exist for intentional road crimes. Either way, you can definitely get your licence suspended for a long period, though only non-citizens can get their right to drive permanently revoked following an indictable offence conviction.
Does your government have a road safety advertising/awareness programme? If so, give details The Department of Justice in combination with the Department of Transport and Infrastructure has long made an effort to promote its road safety adverts in the most irritating ways possible, simply so people will listen to it. It's had mixed results; private broadcaster Mauritischer Rundfunk (MRF), in the late 1990s, actually attempted to refuse the Government's advertisement buyouts on its networks because of alleged evidence that such buyouts contributed to lower viewer rates for its flagship programmes.

END
Are you satisfied with this survey? Yes, I think it allows me to flesh out an element of my nation I'd normally not think about.
Any suggestions or comments on how to improve? Echoing previous sentiments concerning questions on road funding, private roadways, and licensing requirements.

Are there any areas of your national road network that don't have a speed limit? No
What do you call your motorway network? (ie State Highways, National Highways etc) Imperial Skyways
Are your nation's citizens keen to use your nation's highways? With the state of the nation's world-class rail system, generally no. But when they do feel the need to travel by car, they feel no hesitation. They're modern, well-maintained highways, but with a much smaller footprint than elsewhere.

Which government department or agency is responsible for enforcing road safety? The IMT: The Imperial Ministry of Transit
What kind of vehicles do your nation's traffic enforcement use? (Feel free to include a picture but please use a spoiler) Various vehicles, but the standard cruiser is the "Nissan GT-R EV"
Image

What are the penalties for exceeding the speed limit on the open road? Within 10 KMPH, the Police have discretion whether to pull you over (Rarely do anything). Above 15, a fine of §32=$67.20. Above 25, the fine goes up to §64=134.4 if for a short burst of time. If excessive speed is sustained, the penalty is an immediate loss of license.
How prevalent are fixed-speed cameras in your nation? Extremely common in all metropolitan areas (Towns or cities with over 100 people), and near intersections
How prevalent are mobile speed cameras in your nation? Not common, due to the aforementioned adoption of fixed-speed cameras, but they are installed along motorways during construction projects

The State of the Roads
Is your nation's road network in good condition? Yes
Which government department or agency is in charge of maintaining your nation's roads? The BSM: The Bureau of Skyway Maintenance, under the IMT
How common are roadworks on your nation's busiest stretches of road? At night, during peak construction season, relatively common. At other times, especially during the day, infrequent but regularly seen.

How bad is traffic congestion in your nation's major cities? Traffic congestion is near-extinct except at the absolute worst times, due to the nation's excellent accompanied mass-transit system. Simply put, at the busiest times, the nation's infrastructure is organized to encourage citizens, especially in the major Metropol's to not use the motorways.

Accidents
How common are road accidents in your nation? Fairly infrequent, due to the well-maintained roads and low traffic levels despite the nation's sizeable population

Are people who (either intentionally or unintentionally) cause road accidents forbidden to drive? The nation has no tolerance for intentional accidents, imposing a moratorium on such people holding a license for a decade. For unintentional accidents, depending on the circumstances a person may begin driving again immediately after their first accident. Should they have a second within a year, they are required to undergo a training program. Any further accidents will result in immediate loss of their license, requiring they wait a full year to reapply for an accident. More than one intentional accident shall result in permanent loss of license, except for Court Order.
Does your government have a road safety advertising/awareness programme? If so, give details Generally the nation focuses its resources on just making roadways as safe as possible and encouraging safe-driving by design (Narrow streets, speedbumps...) but the programme which does exist encourages safe/sober/textless driving with various themes, most focused on appealing to people's sense of shame by simulating heartwrenching moments pets/kids/elderly being harmed in accidents, or patriotic visages of the Emperor reminding Syagrots to "Obey the Law of the Road." and "Text and drive, and I'll throw your phone out myself. Quit it or ticket."

END
Are you satisfied with this survey? Needs more cowbell, otherwise good.
Any suggestions or comments on how to improve? Traffic light tech? Bikelanes/Buslanes? Sidewalks? I don't know, infrastructure. I know this is a highway and not a transit survey, but something related to road lanes overlaps enough with this subject. Rightside/leftside...also, who says we use asphalt? Maybe our roads are built from solid slabs of cheese. Also, traffic-calming measures perhaps...

Your nation's name The Federated United States of Amaurita
Your nation's (IC, non-NS) population 480,894,000

Speeds and Sensibilities
What unit of measurement do your roads use to measure speed? Kilometers per hour
What is the open-road speed limit in your nation? There is no national limit, although an advisory speed limit is 120 kilometers per hour. Approximately 19% of highways fall under an 'enforcement zone,' were speed limits can be placed and enforced, such as:
  • School zones (which can only be found on limited access highways or arterial roads), where the speed limit is set at 40 kilometers per hour
  • Built up or urbanized areas, where the speed limit is generally set at 90 kilometers per hour on controlled access highways and 60 kilometers per hour on limited access highways.
  • Zones with natural hazards, where speed limit is generally set at 90 kilometers per hour in good conditions.
Are there any areas of your national road network that don't have a speed limit? Yes, a majority of highways don't have an enforceable speed limit and only the advised speed limit of 120 kilometers per hour.
What do you call your motorway network? (ie State Highways, National Highways etc) There is the Interstate Expressway System (controlled access), U.S Highways (controlled access), U.S Routes (limited access), State Highways (controlled access) and State Routes (limited access).
Are your nation's citizens keen to use your nation's highways? Somewhat, as the size of the nation often means that travel via highway is more efficient and generally safer than using secondary or local roads. Rail transit is also extremely popular however.

Safety Enforcement
Which government department or agency is responsible for enforcing road safety? On the Federal level, patrols are done by the Highway Division of the Federal Transit Police, which is a division of the United States Federal Police. On a State level, this responsibility falls to State Police. Additionally, many of the larger local agencies have highway patrol units, such as the Sagamore County Police in Alderney or San Pedro County Sheriff's Department in Palma.
What kind of vehicles do your nation's traffic enforcement use? (Feel free to include a picture but please use a spoiler) The Federal Police uses Durant exclusively, although State and local agencies also use Ford.
What are the penalties for exceeding the speed limit on the open road? In zones with no limit, there is no technical penalty (given there's only an advisory speed limit generally), although speeding drivers can be held liable for accidents caused. In zones with a set speed limit, penalties generally come in the form of fines, which start at 100 UST and increase in increments of 50 UST for every 15 km/hr over the speed limit.
How prevalent are fixed speed cameras in your nation? Fixed speed cameras are used on exchanges and exits off of highways, as well as intersections and roadways that have higher rates of motor vehicle collisions. Additionally, pending legislation on the Federal Level (the Safety in Educational Transit Act) would provide grants to install speed cameras in school zones (which are generally set at 40 km/hr).
How prevalent are mobile speed cameras in your nation? All Federal patrol vehicles are equipped with speed cameras, as well as a majority of State patrol vehicles. Local departments generally don't have them.

The State of the Roads
Is your nation's road network in good condition? Yes, given that both the Federal and State governments are responsible for maintenance.
Which government department or agency is in charge of maintaining your nation's roads? Federally, the Department of Highways, under the Department of Transportation. On a State level, State Transportation Departments are responsible.
How common are roadworks on your nation's busiest stretches of road? Roadworks are common, although construction is generally done during the night (2100-0500), weather permitting. Daytime construction can occur, although it is very uncommon.
Is there some way your nation's commuters can view road closures/roadworks before taking a journey? Yes. Most vehicles have software that are alerted by construction or accidents and can prompt the driver to use a different route if necessary.
How bad is traffic congestion in your nation's major cities? Traffic can be heavy, although backups are generally not extremely common.

Accidents
How common are road accidents in your nation? There are approximately 114,000 collisions per year (with an injury), which includes 2,254 collisions with deaths.
Are your nation's open roads generally considered safe to travel on? Yes.
How well do your nation's emergency services respond to motor accidents? Emergency Services tend to be quick in response, given extensive patrols and the use of emergency phones placed at regular intervals.
Are people who (either intentionally or unintentionally) cause road accidents forbidden to drive? Unintentional accidents generally result in higher insurance rates and an eventual revocation or suspension of one's driving license, assuming the driver is a repeat offender. Intentionally caused accidents generally result in suspension or revocation of a driving license, and potential incarceration if injuries or fatalities are caused.
Does your government have a road safety advertising/awareness programme? If so, give details Yes, at all levels of government. These generally focus on distracted driving and impaired driving.

END
Are you satisfied with this survey? Yes.
Any suggestions or comments on how to improve? Maybe including facilities such as rest stations, lighting, and charging / refueling stations.
