Car Culture in YN

Postby Imperial States of Duotona » Thu Nov 03, 2022 1:30 pm

Different countries around the world have different ways they make and modify cars. From muscle cars in the US, tuners in Japan and even the Baja in Mexico, different countries call for different situations. So how does your nation's people make cars, and how do the customers modify them? (if they do at all, that is!)

In Duotona, cars are often smaller and more compact, reminiscent of the smaller Japanese cars from the 70's like the original Civic. As for modifications, stance culture is massive in the Duotonan car scene, with many choosing to modify cars more for the looks in pictures than for actually driving. There is also a culture for modifying old state-manufactured cars from the 80's and 90's, basically as a massive middle finger to that dictatorship which made laughably slow cars which are now engine swapped to have powerful V6's or V8's. Duotona's most sold domestic car, the Grandera Eulogy, fits into both catagories, the name having been used since 1971 to this very day.

Duotona is a nation nestled in the Pacific Ocean. Marked by the scars of its bloody past, the people of Duotona persist and have given the nation a voice from which it preaches the word of peace and democracy across the globe!

Neptunvia's is all about Diversity and Adaptivity. In the field, A singular person doesn't own a cars per say, but Squads are usually issued a military grade Jeep. There, they have full range to deck out the car in whatever they require. This results in varying degrees of diversity, Such as cars that can go really fast for Police chases, Off-Roaders for Urban Areas, Heck, we've even had a case where a squad turned there jeep into a tank!

Unlike most of the Western world, the craze for cars and car-dependent infrastructure never took off in Vetland, and due to the sheer ubiquity, cheapness and speed of public transport almost everywhere, most Vetlanders neither own nor want to own a car and consider any road beyond 2 lanes to be a concrete eyesore. However, many farmers own cars for practical reasons, and as such, the cars that do exist are chosen for sturdiness, off road capability and reliability.

In West Bromwich Holme, you need to drive, and also, car culture is huge. Legally, self-driving cars are banned on public roads, and in any case, the car or motorbike is king.

Citizens are fairly passionate about the car, and eco-zealots hate this.

Here, there is a broad choice of brands, some available only in the autonomous or dependent territories, some not.

The most popular cars are the Ford Focus (which from 2025 continues under licensed production; currently, here, you can buy three generations from 2004 onwards, so from September 2004 to 2018 in design terms.

The 1.4i basic model starts at £11,200 (rounded up from original price), and is the cheapest model in the range; prices haven't risen in line with inflation from 2004/2005 for this model.

It's not the national car but one of the most popular.

Even though now, Ford threw in the towel selling new ones from 2025, we're continuing producing it here under license.

But, aside from that, it's not just Ford that sells well; Mercedes-Benz do too.

Here, you can buy the C-Class in multiple generations; the third-generation W204 and fourth-generation W205 sedan and stationwagon sell alongside the modern C-Class W206 sedan and stationwagon. However, the W204 coupe and W205 coupe were not adapted for continued licensed production; the W204 ceased production in 2015, and W205 coupe in 2021.

Currently, the C-Class W206 does not offer a coupe, but you can get a two-door sedan version which is available only as the C2010 with a 2.0 litre 201hp mild-hybrid consisting of a 201hp petrol motor and 15kW electric motor, and you can only get it in Fashion or Sport trim levels. It's not really a coupe though and doesn't have the C-Class badging.

Another popular favourite is the Volvo S90, which since 2017 has sold in large numbers. It's also built under license by Daqinche Automotive, under the name DQN-Volvo, and it differs from the conventional S90 by bearing the model name Jiubaiexilie (or 900VL for English translation).

The DQN-Volvo version has a raised ground clearance, and offers a 2.0 litre 251hp 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol or 2.0 litre 316hp 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine alongside a 2.0 litre 402hp 4-cylinder hybrid engine, which has a supercharger and electric motor driving the rear wheels. No diesels are available.

In short, our nation is well-accepting of car drivers and car owners; motoring as much a passion as food or politics.

Grand Meridian has one of the largest car manufacturing industries in the world and the largest in its region. That is to say, we have a HUGE car culture and due to the nature of the nation (large land mass and a spread-out population) we actively encourage car ownership.

Grand Meridian also has a large petroleum/petrochemicals industry as it is considered critical to the economy. We allow unlimited fracking and drilling on public or private land. Almost all oil and gas products sold in Grand Meridian are produced domestically. There is no tax on gasoline other than the normal sales tax.

Citizens love driving on our privately owned and operated highways, which are clean, in excellent shape, and are wide and uncongested. The highways have no speed limits - anywhere. Citizens also love their cars. Almost all major highways throughout the nation have a minimum of 6 lanes each way and some stretches that are heavily used are a minimum of 10 lanes each way. Shorter state highways having a minimum of 4 lanes each way. Highways are generally paid for by tolls. We drive on the right.

The industry is completely deregulated and we have a dozen domestic brands on top just about every major foreign brand worldwide, which have large manufacturing operations here. Auto manufacturers can produce and sell whatever cars they want in whatever shape or form as long as they are reasonably safe in prevailing road conditions. Electric vehicles and hybrids are unpopular due to their high purchase cost and the fact that we have some of the cheapest gasoline prices in the world. Automobiles are also a large export industry and employs millions of people.

Toyota and Subaru are extremely popular brands, and they have been manufacturing large-engine versions only sold in Grand Meridian as people like the power that the large engines give them. People also prefer SUVs because they offer more space and better visibility.

Cars are extremely affordable as they are mostly domestically produced and people have a lot of options, and fuel is cheap.

Modifying cars is allowed and there is a large market for custom parts and accessories as auto manufacturing is one of the largest industries we have.

In short, cars are a HUGE part of the Grand Meridian economy and culture. Eco-zealots hate this but they are generally treated like the children that they are since all goods and services are delivered by automobile in some way, shape or form. All public transit services in Grand Meridian have been privatized and almost all of them have failed due to insufficient demand.

Not a lot of cars in Kuroluce, ‘cuz Hilda ate them.

Ever since the Great Condensining (name pending) to mitigate what the shapers saw as potential future overpopulation, cities have been restructured around walkable and public infrastructure.

Outside the cities in the treacherous wilds of Domain are where cars, or things resembling them, come into play. For the purposes of safety, and because parts of the Mojave and the borderlands resemble Mad Max with faultier gravity, cars and other personal transit are very much used. Various small settlements of wanderers, humans, or city folk who just got bored, often feature a rig owned by the town for “municipal purposes”, whether that be engaging in local trade or just scaring away the beasties.

Most every vehicle is a custom model, and a few SIS Arcologies have even set themselves up as stations to keep one’s own tricked out and in good repair.

Many are abandoning this lifestyle as Domain’s intercity rail continues to worm its way into smaller settlements, but there will always be — and the shapers know this — a community that prefers nomadic, independent life in the New Wild West.

And, Hilda seems to think it’s “cool as f**k” anyway, and has drawn up areas that are to be protected from the advance of civilization.
For the relevant F7 threads, the girl on the left is Hilda, and the one on the right is Melissa (Lissy).

A class 13.8 civilization, according to this thingy. Assuming the Mistresses stay home. They probably will, they’re actually pretty lazy.

Please rise for the national anthem of Kuroluce!

Cars are a very important part of everyday Boldonian life due to the fact that there are so many freeways, especially in the southern part of the country. Most cars are imported from the US, mostly back when Boldonia was a US territory but a few after independence. Boldonians don't really modify vehicles, as there is no need. However repairs and other things needed to keep cars up to date are common. Cars from the late 2000s to early 2010s are extremely common on Boldonian highways. There are no unique car models that originate from Boldonia, however certain car manufacturing companies operate their small factories in the IRB that they had before independence.

Postby Juansonia » Thu Nov 03, 2022 4:28 pm

Oh boy, this will be like a Socialist nation posting in "The Free Market in YN", but I will try anyway. Part of this is copied from previous posts.

In Juansonia, the automobile is primarily viewed as a hazard, secondarily as a utilitarian vehicle for those who need it, and tretiarily as a collector's item. A specific reason is required in order to get an automobile license, and commuting/personal automobiles are effectively banned for those who don't live in rural/remote areas. Instead, almost everybody walks, takes public transportation, utilises some form of micromobility(bikes, scooters, powered equivalents thereof), or boats.

The history of Juansonia's relative lack of cars goes back to before cars existed (obviously). Before cars first became widespread around 1920, Juansonia was much like the RL united states - streets were used by pedestrians, streetcars, horse-drawn vehicles, pushcarts, and children at play. The introduction of widespread automobile use resulted in an upward trend of fatalities, and the public responded with outrage. In 1923, San Augusto mandated that all cars operating in city limits have a governor installed to prevent exceeding 40 km/h Many cities followed suit. Automakers responded by offering to help write news articles on car-pedestrian collisions, but the anti-pedestrian slant didn't catch on, and newspapers were boycotted until they didn't use automaker-written articles. Automakers tried to lobby police to humiliate people who walked in the street or crossed in the middle, but those officers were quickly removed from the force since pedestrian-control laws were not implemented. The term "Jaydriving" caught on more than "Jaywalking", which was responded to in 1925 by the national government of Juansonia taking over the licensing process, instituting a motor vehicle code, and mandating driver exams.

In the late 40s and early 50s, highway construction accelerated and personal automobile use skyrocketed. Construction of Prosperidad, the current capitol, began in 1955. By the late 50's, automobile collisions had skyrocketed, and the JBC exposed how many bribes were involved in the license-granting process in 1957. In 1958, Juansonia refused to issue new learning permits without a valid reason, began issuing stricter sentences for vehicular offenses, and arrested thousands of DOT workers for corruption. By the end of 1960, all pre-58 learner's permits were either made into code F licenses or expired as permits. Juansonia would continue to invest more into transit and micromobility use, and many highways would be converted for other uses. The invention of the electronic limiter resulted in San Augusto and other cities amending their laws so a limiter that was activated within city limits would suffice.

The automobiles manufactured within Juansonia come in many utilitarian varieties. These include specialty vehicles(for utility companies, construction teams, and emergency services), vans, logistics trucks, buses, pickup trucks for farmers and some tradesmen, and high-efficency cars for those who live in remote areas.

Safety is always the primary priority, so most vehicles are designed to either not have hood-induced blind spots or to have mirrors specifically for said spots. As an example, Juansonian pickup trucks are utilitarian in design, with a low hood, accessible bed, and enough bed length for whatever is needed. Double-cab pickup trucks(the ones with two rows of seats) almost always place the cab over the front axle to maximise bed usability.

Automobile modification, while legal, is regulated to prevent circumvention of regulation. All modifications which significantly impact the function of the automobile(such as engine upgrades)must be registered with the DOT, and the vehicle must be anually inspected to determine the presesnce of illegal modifications. Any lifts which modify the bumper height or impair visibility are prohibited, as are any measures intended to defeat emissions controls, speed controls, or detection of a vehicle.

Highways almost never exceed three lanes per direction, and many don't even have two lanes per direction constantly. Almost every expressway charges tolls, which are intended to disincentivise driving. Petrochemical fuels are also taxed to offset their environmental impact. In addition to both of these taxes, automobiles are subject to a VMT tax.

TL;DR: In many nations that responded, the car is essential. In Amsterdam, the car is a guest. In Juansonia, the car is a hazard that has been mitigated.

In Kivoasia we have imports from different nation's. The farther you get you'll see things like Toyota trucks to Urals. The closer you'll see Sedans, SUVS, Compacts you know typical cars. You'll some see military Humvees, MRAPS, APCs and custom made F-150s on patrol around the country. In the richer area's you'll be spyders, hypercars, supercars, coupes all heavily modified. You'll see limited production electronic cars aswell.

We have stretch of land in the dessert areas, where you can freely let it rip (at your own risk)

Though Medzhumoramia's Cities are walkable, cars are still culturally prized due to our early adoption of the technology and our large land area for our region.

Most cars are fall between purely utilitarian and purely luxury, with local companies such as KMK and Vystula, as well as European companies like Peugeot, Renault, Volkswagen and Citroen being popular in the country.

There is a Sportscar Scene, which includes vehicles from the local company Kabemees as weil as primarily German and Italian vehicles. The German brand Porsche has been a favorite of the royal family, in part due to their ancestry of their house in the region of Wurttemburg, from which the Porsche company originates.

The future of car culture looks to face many of the same questions it faces elsewhere. Some in government argue cars are dangerous, polluting, and unnecessary and worsen the quality of life for citizens in urban areas. Others argue that a loss of the independent unit of long-distance travel will consign many into an increasingly dystopian urban serfdom. Lawmakers are generally split on how to proceed on the car issue specifically, but as electric cars gain steam in the region, one thing the government has agreed on is that, whether the state itself mandates electric cars over petrol in the future or not, the power grid must be expanded to meet the demand autos manufactured in neighboring countries with such requirements will encourage. To this end, a new round of nuclear power plants has been approved in the country.

Cars aren't hugely popular in Tangatarehua, with most people who own cars being from rural areas (especially the southern two islands which don't have as much rail infrastructure).

Cars are always imported, usually from Japan, as Tangatarehua drives on the left and so cars from other countries aren't usually appropriate for the roads and conditions here. Smaller cars are also the norm as roads are often tight and narrow.

There is a culture of people who like to modify cars (though this has to be within strict regulations) however generally such people are stereotyped as uneducated rural hicks and you're highly unlikely to find such a person in an urban area.

In Klementonia, cars are more seen as a tool for transportation rather than an accessory item.

However, it doesn’t mean the entire nation believes that. There are often state-subsidized races where roads are blocked off in city areas to allow racers that have tuned their cars to experience urban city racing. It provides a healthy racing experience for those who loves cars without the risk of crashing and death for civilian drivers. Lots of people enjoy these events and afterwards, car shows are hosted so people can admire cars.

We have what is known as the sky-cutter, a flying verical, rather then the car, and they can fly in most areas between 1000 feet (unless taking off or landing) and 30,000 feet (above that is for planes and spacecraft only.) They can fly in most places, except within a mile of Parlament or 10 Upping Street where the President of the Central Committee lives. On land, we have buses, trams, taxis, emergency viecles, and herses but private cars, motorbikes, and bicicles are banned. Sky cutters only have to go slow when taking off or landing. We only have a few roads as such outside cities and towns, but sky-cutters don't need roads. Decals are popular, and paint is genrally flashy.

During the Cybertronian Great War, we quickly learned that anything that looked like a car, truck, van, etc. was almost certain to actually be an enemy - specifically, an Autobot. They would sit in vehicle mode and wait for one of us to get in range, and then suddenly transform into a robot and start blasting.

Even though we defeated the Autobots, and believe that there are none left, we have never lost our extreme distrust and hatred of ground vehicles. Now, if we see one within our Nation, we immediately blast it until it is nothing but harmless, tiny shards of burnt metal and melted rubber.

As for how we get around, we typically transform into planes and fly. All Decepticon bodies are flight-capable, whether it is via a plane mode or something more technologically advanced.

Of course, cars are also officially banned. In fact, the decree that says it's high treason to harbor a flightless road vehicle is still on the books, and every so often, someone is found guilty of this and melted down as punishment. The Autobots are gone, but traitors who sympathize with their horrible ideology occasionally appear, and keeping one or more cars - or worse, a semi-truck - is a dead giveaway.

Personal vehicles are popular in Dayganistan. In the biggest cities it's not really a requirement to have a car, but most families do still own at least one for times when public transit or walking might be inconvenient, or when they want to leave the cities since rail travel through the Hindu Kush and the foothills of the Himalayas isn't exactly the most convenient thing. In smaller cities and rural areas having a personal vehicle becomes more and more necessary. Some of the more popular makes are Toyota, Honda, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, Subaru, Audi, Ford, and Renault.

Among enthusiasts, Dayganistan's car culture is known for drifting and racing on windy mountain roads much like Japan. As a result, Japanese imports are quite popular among the enthusiast scene but are certainly on equal footing with European and Korean models. American sports cars are practically unheard of although you'll see a few Dodge Chargers and Ford Mustangs here and there. While street racing is technically illegal, the police are only likely to take enforcement action if they actually see it happening or get a complaint from the public. Enthusiasts tend to modify their cars as well for both performance and appearance. Some of the most popular cars among enthusiasts are the Honda Civic Type R, Volkswagen Golf R, Renault Megane RS, Volvo S60, Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ, Subaru WRX STI, Kia Stinger, Hyundai Elantra N, Genesis G70, Mazada RX7, Nissan Skyline GTR, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Toyota Supra (both the classic and modern version), and anything made by BMW, Audi, or Mercedes. The more wealthy enthusiasts will go for your typical higher end makes, but this list is more in line with what your typical middle class enthusiast might go for.

Secondary to this, there is also a thriving offroad and rally scene although this is more professional oriented than it is amateur enthusiast oriented.

Car culture is sort-of-a-thing in Tummylandia, however most Tummylandian cities are walkable and dense, and some rural areas don't use the "homesteading approach" (living on the farm and commuting to town when necessary) but instead live in small towns and walk to their fields during the day, regardless, cars still exist.

Personal vehicles are most prevalent in the North and Susistan, who have "subpar" rail infrastructure to Tummylandian standards (but normal rail infrastructure by Filipino standards). Many cars are banned in Tummylandia due to their size, mostly Canadian made cars. Any vehicle with the maximum capacity of 2000kg requires you to drive for atleast 5 years in your ordinary license, then apply for a higher class permit, and they have to make sure if you are only getting it for your job or for commercial purposes. You also need to prove that you have a parking space to fit it.

Tummylandians also modify cars, similar to their Filipino counterparts. An example of this modification is a Jeepney, shared with the Philippines. Jeepneys in Tummylandia look similar to the 2nd generation Jeepneys, however they are air conditioned, they have windows, and they are slightly longer. Jeepneys in Tummylandia are commonly used alongside rail services, so that rail is less clogged up with passengers.

Most cars are also imported, primarily from Japan, though some cars have been imported from Italy, Germany and god forbid, Canada.

The most popular car in Tummylandia is the Toyota Hilux, mostly used by ruralites, suburbanites, rebel groups and anyone north of Nueva Andalusia, with the next most popular being the Toyota Corolla. The most popular brand is Toyota, followed by Mazda, Subaru, Honda, Suzuki, and Mitsubishi. The most popular non-Japanese brand is BMW.

In short, car culture is a thing in anywhere that isn't a city center.

Montanity has a car culture similar to that of the 50s-70s. Where stylized cars are all the rage with sleek fins and smooth exterior.

Car usage in Equai is dropping significantly, with most of domestically produced cars being exported. Equai doesn't have a car culture, almost all cars that we produce are compact 4-seat cars and 5-6 seat SUVs and our people are not crazy in customizing them

Car culture is niche, but not entirely uncommon in Iraq. Commonly modified cars include Mercedes, BMW and Lexus. Most cars produced in Iraq are sedans, people carriers and SUVs.

Traffic laws are enforced by the Traffic Policing Units of the Iraqi Arab Police Force.

CAR CULTURE IN OTTLANTOSERVALES

1. Motorsports: Our National Sport

In Ottlantoservales, car culture is huge, considering that our national sport is Motorsports. The Ottlantian Stock Car Association (OSCA) is responsible for the OSCA Master Series, which is always at the top of TV viewership rankings on Sundays; only being rivaled by the Elite Grand Prix Championship (EGPC). For this reason, the Ottlantian Football League's (OFL) main matchday is on Saturdays, rather than on Sundays.

Rallying is portrayed as "the people's sport", not only because its cheaper to attend and compete, but also due to its unregulated nature, allowing big crowds to gather 1 meter away from the road, as rally cars passes through at high speeds, nearly missing the spectators. This "reckless" nature attracts the youth en masses, making up to 40% of the attendance in Rally Events.

2. Cars in Ottlantoservales

The average Ottlantian family have 2 cars, the primary car varies between a hatchback, sedan, wagon, or an SUV. The secondary can be literally anything, from a hot hatch to a supercar. The most traditional car brands here are: RSA, Koyata, Astral, Lord, GAC, Sotaru, BAUF, Fineot and AutoLivicce.

Astral and Lord are our biggest National manufacturers, they produce mostly SUVs, sedans, wagons and pick-up trucks. Other National brands are: Cherokee (owned by the AutoLivicce Group, it's their heavies branch), Volt (EVs only), Howard Performance (high-end branch of Astral), Bensworth (high-end branch of Lord), Orion (Luxury cars), and Gecko (young all-rounder brand, but makes most of the revenue from Military contracts).

The most polular car here is the Lord Victor, which is widely employed as a police and taxi car. Being a cheap (due to it's availability), spacious sedan with a huge trunk, and powered by a strong V8, the Victor is seen as the "easy" choice for families that want a simple, but versatile car. Due to it's popularity, Lord keeps updating and doing face-lifts on the Victor; reluctantly, as the brand see the Victor as an "obsolete" car. But yet Lord is never replaces it, as they fear public outrage. The Victor is also Lord's car for the OSCA Master Series since 2000, winning 6 driver's championships, and 11 manufacturer championships so far.

They youth, influenced by the Rally culture, can be often seen driving the likes of the Sotaru Kronos SRC, Mitsono K40 Evo, Koyata Teros GT and the AutoLivicce's sport compacts. For the ones outside the Rally culture, their main choices are compacts, and classic muscle cars. The minimum age to drive cars here is 16 years.

The wealthy can be seen driving their Orions, Jupiters, McKlausters, Ashton Merlins, Tëursches, Schannemans, Costeaus, Gerbassis, Alphas and Morettis. They will often have 6-to-40-space garages, in order to accommodate their collections. Sport Cars can be seen frequently on weekends at the Autobahns (which has no speed Limits on the outer lane), or at local race tracks.

Other honorable mentions are: the GAC 118 (medium sedan), Astral Wanderer (large SUV), Koyata Kona (medium sedan), RSA s15 (compact hatch/sedan/wagon), Sotaru Pinnacle (compact sedan/wagon), Lord P38 (medium pick-up), Fineot 99 (medium hatch/sedan/wagon), BAUF B7 (medium hach/sedan/wagon) and the AutoLivicce 138 (hot hatch).

3. Street Racing & Car Tuning

In order to avoid illegal street racing at dangerous and dense areas, the Race Tracks here, (in cooperation with the authorities) are open throughout the night, with a quite cheap entrance fee, helping to reduce street racing spots on public roads. And the Police closes some of the roads that have little to no movement and reasonable safety conditions, to allow street racing at these areas. The Police, however, will warn the spectators and drivers that they are at their own risk; and if something happens, the authorities are not to blame.

The tuning culture is not that strong; its a specific niche here. The majority prefers stock looking cars, with minor aesthetic changes (like stripes, carbon-fribre looking hood or roof). Amateur drivers will mostly focus on applying safety changes on the interior, (like the installation of roll-cages, HANS device, etc.), technical setup changes (like adjusting the suspension for better drivability, higher grip tyres, etc.), and tiny sponsorship-related decals.

4. Electric Vehicles

The government, nowadays, is making efforts so the country can accelerate its transition to Electric Vehicles. The EVs, although in the market since 2012, have been struggling to take over. According to research pools in 2018, the main reason Ottlantians are reluctant to buy EVs is its lack of sound, making up to 89% of the answers. The companies, aware of this, are testing a artificial audio system, so the EV can sound like an actual combustion car. These testings are on final stages, and the Government and the Parliament are already working to create regulations, so that a V12-sounding electric hot hatch doesn't wake the neighborhood up at 3am. It is expected that, after solving the sound issue, it will be just a matter of time, for the EVs to take over our market.

Most cars in Gagauzia are from Russian car brands, such as AvtoVAZ and GAZ. AvtoVAZ operates a plant in Kazayak which produces the Lada Granta.

Other automotive brands that are fairly common in Gagauzia are Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Volkswagen and Mercedes.
