Brief History
GATORnet was originally created by two computer network startup entrepreneurs fresh out of Liberty Regional Technical Institute. Mark Hushkins and Nik Milidis were extremely close as friends and wanted to keep in touch. On March 15th, 15 AUR, the two recently graduated college students created a custom-built PDA that was designed to send and receive simple flash messages over long distances, utilizing whatever network signal was available. They also created a custom operating system called GATOR OS to automatically configure and operate the new communications system, eventually having their work noticed by the Confederate Military in 18 AUR after a close friend of theirs was found with the strange device while attending PT drills on a Military Police base. Both Mark and Nik were offered D$25 Million Denars for the rights of their custom-designed PDA and request for a custom-variant of their OS for military use. This opportunity spurred the two entrepreneurs to found GATORnet Incorporated on Feburary 16th, 19 AUR and operate the new company as co-founders.
GATORnet Inc.
GATORnet Incorporated was originally founded for the sole purpose of designing, producing, and distributing experimental PDA models for the Confederate Military to use. Following several successful example models, however, the Military decided to extend a semi-permanent to permanent contract to GATORnet Inc. as a supplier for PDA devices designed to send and receive flash messages over any network, but specifically to utilize an experimental network in the works at the time by the Confederate Navy. The company grew in size, constructing multiple facilities and branches across the nation and eventually began to dabble in social media. On August 11th, 34 AUR, Nik Milidis introduced GATORnet V0.1a, a unique social media platform specific to the Anagonian continent and utilizing its information networks.
GATORnet v0.1a and Onward
The original, alpha variant of GATORnet Social Media was intended as a simplistic text-messaging application to be used on any phone and easily downloaded from multiple app stores. By August 30th of 34 AUR, Nik Milidis constructed a primitive website to play host to the newly created social media platform. GATORnet v0.1a was then updated to v0.2b after a few months in operation, updating many of the components to send and receive messages but maintaining its simplistic messaging style. GATORnet would not undergo any significant updates for several decades, until June 5th of 85 AUR when it was given its largest update to v0.4b which gave the social media app a wider area of use and accessibility to various providers and services. Once again GATORnet underwent very few significant updates for a few decades, allowing time for the social media platform to adjust to significant changes introduced in V0.4b.
On October 13th, 106 AUR GATORnet Incorporated introduced update v0.5a, nicknamed the "Mark and Nik Update" in honor of the companies original founders and their ambitions for the social media application. The new update allowed the social media application access to international networks and the world community at large. Several hundred servers were brought online, just in case there would be a significant influx of traffic from the international to domestic side. Additional securities were put into place, permitting very few domestic-side GATORnet posts to reach the international community, however allowing international posts and comments to be seen and replied to by domestic audiences.
On October 16th, 106 AUR GATORnet Incorporated introduced update v0.5.1a nicknamed the "Great Capacity" update. This update concentrated preliminary on the capacity of GATORnet to handle extra international traffic and introduced several fixes from the previous version. Additional securities were put in place to assist with the update.
On December 11th 106 AUR GATORnet Incorporated introduced update v0.5.2b nicknamed the "Cyberbully Prevention" update. This update was constructed and coded with assistance from NSTech and the Confederate National Intelligence Agency. Due to previous vulnerabilities discovered in V0.5.1a from bot attacks, the GATORnet team went all out with bot-prevention techniques and additions; Log-in screen, 2-factor authentication, and various other still-classified cybersecurity measures. The update also introduced the first instance of browser extension support and video-and-voice group calling, thanks to the assistance from NSTech.

GATORnet moderators and administrators typically exercise a "liberal" policy of policing the social media platform. GATORnet is and was always intended to be an unrestricted platform that allowed all Anagonian citizens the liberty to express themselves as they saw fit. The only restrictions on the platform are as follows:

POST FORMAT
GATORnet v0.5.2b is a simplistic social media platform that primarily utilizes a system similar to the Fleet Communications Network in use by the Confederate States Military - also created by GATORnet Incorporated. The system cannot understand complex formatting and the servers will not transmit these attempted posts domestically or through its servers. GATORnet v0.5.2b can send and receive texts, images, gifs, send & receive calls, and videos of various formats and has the capacity to display user avatars.
