What's a political farce that won't be forgotten?

Postby West Bromwich Holme » Thu Oct 06, 2022 2:43 am

No, not a misplaced Factbooks & General Information discussion that's IC.

This is as real-world as you can get.

I suppose either Brexit for us British or for the Americans, the Snowden revelations and then Trump in power 2017-2022 would count.

For the Canadians on here, remember the Rob Ford incident in 2013? I'm no expert on Canadian politics, only heard about the incident due to blog sites in 2013, it wasn't covered by mainstream media here in the UK.

Are there any political incidents that people still see as farcical even now in your country?

Everything fades.

Gary Hart
Wilbur Mills
Nelson Rockefeller's death.

Three of my favorites. But it all gets forgotten in the end.

The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

Considering how far my country has devolved into subjugating forensic standards to ideological interests that forward their causes more by circumstantial evidence, I am hard pressed to organize a concise list.

So you understand my POV, I will say that most of it would come out of the long and dubious history of Progressive identity politics coupled with their campaign of subversion modeled on Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov's chalkboard of the institutionalized Soviet version of it.

In his defense, Whittington does look a little bit like Quayle, if you are blind in one eye.

His "apology" was basically "shit happens and I feel bad because this is now a political thing against Cheney"

Which I understand, although Cheney probably ought not have shot him.

Cheney had a spot on the wall picked out to mount his head and everything.

A little niche, but I remember our governor Mark Sanford suddenly disappearing before Mothers Day. He of course went down to Argentina to have an adulterous affair, and got bluntly questioned in the airport on his return.

BYAAHHH!

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Depends on how much you drink.

But yes, real power is when you shoot someone and they apologize to you.

When you have enough power to do what you always wanted to do, then you see what the guy always wanted to do.

Large flightless birds descended from even larger flightless birds that descended from Tyrannosaurus Rex.
I learned to respect the ostrich while volunteering in Kenya.
They can be more ferocious than people generally think, a bit clever, and in the emu's defense living with Australians can be just as much an acquired taste as emu and waffles.
