Canadian Dominion returns to Hockey in WCoH 46 after a humiliating defeat in the World Juniors round of 12. Still, in this year's WCoH, there is a hope to qualify this time, but the first report of the competition will be about the group mates in group A.

Mercedini (6)
The 6th ranked team internationally and the host for this WCoH cycle, a lot can be said about how they played internationally last year. Still, we at Candian Dominion Sports Network, or CDSN, will keep it short and brief for all readers at home.

Mercedinian Hockey is one of those teams that show up and play well until they reach the finals, but we can’t say that because, in most areas, we don’t qualify. If we did, we mostly lose in the first round, but their hard hitters will most likely be here; we don’t have the current roster, but we can look back on their old Roster. From what we have seen, their style of play isn’t putting too much on offense. Still, they are good at making chances and putting the puck on the net. Other than that, this team is dangerous.

Vilita and Turori (26)
Vilita & Turori and the Ice Cats rank number 26 internationally and are a force that is pretty hard to stop when they have momentum. Same with the team before, there isn’t an updated roster, and from what we have seen last WCoH, they are a balanced team; no side they are leaning into that much. They are still a tough team, and we are happy to have them in the same group stage again.

Kimi-Suomi (UR)
Kimi-Suomi is an unranked team but a team that has left Canadian Dominion in a sour mood before. Kimi-Suomi has played Canadian Dominion before, but not in Ice Hockey but in one of Atlantian Oceania’s biggest competitions! The AOCAF Cup, sending the Canadian Dominion team home in the Round of 16, this time the Gaggle won’t be so friendly with this squad. Hoping to dish out what they got served back at The Lions, but in the words of Ilya Bryzagalov - “it's the only game, why you heff to be mad” in other words, we are glad to meet this team face to face on the Ice.

Depivik (UR)
Another lovely unranked team in the line-up, although we can’t be too light and well underprepared, Canadian Dominion has seen unranked teams that have done a lot in each sport they have been in. Hell, this team could win it all, but they are a heavily offensive team, and they are quick and will rough you up when needed, so it's best to keep your head up and make sure you don’t get on this team's wrong side.

┤ COACHING STAFF ├

Head Coach: ISHII Hakoda
Height: 193cm – Weight: 93kg – Age 46 years old – Team: University of Adirolf, Head Coach

The leader in Caps, Goals, and Assists for the National Team, Ishii Hakoda was selected to lead the Ice Bisons out of The Silence and into the new era! While he has not yet to manage to capture the same magic as the venerable Kad Skirata had when the Ice Bisons first ever showed up on the Multi-Verse Stage, Ishii continues to hold the confidence of the National Sports Council. After a successful Third Place campaign in World Cup XL, the Ice Bisons have continued to advance out of the Group Stage in every edition since; including the first feather in the cap of Ishii Hakoda, the Champions of World Cup of Hockey XLIV. Following that victory, Ishii pushed the Bisons into back-to-back Silver Medals at the Atlantian Oceania Hockey Championships, as well as the second consecutive World Cup Championship at World Cup of Hockey XLV.

Could the team potentially three-peat?

Assistant Coach: ITO Pakku
Forward Coach: IKEDA Kuruk
Defense Coach: KO Piandao
Goalie Coach: SHU Huanguo

Head Medical Officer: Doctor FONG Wuchin
Height: 186cm – Weight: 84kg – Age 52 years old

A graduate of the pristine Royal Academy of Medicine in Imperial City, Fong Wuchin enters his sixth campaign as the Head Medical Officer for the Ice Bisons. Having earned multiple degrees in Sports Medicine, General Surgery, Kinesiology, as well as holding two Traditional Medicine Certifications, 'The Tin Doc' as he is loving referred to as is more than capable of addressing any and all health concerns that can arise with a team as culturally diverse as the Ice Bisons. Much like most doctors for the National Teams, Fong served before college in the Republic Defence Focre; specifically in the Republic Navy as a Corpsman. After his mandatory service, Fong entered in college before earning his intial medical degree from the RAoM; afterwhich, he would accept a commission into the Navy where he would work his way up to the Head of Medicine at the Republic Naval Academy based in Yu Dao. Currently holding the rank of Commodore, Fong oversees much of the education appointments within the Republic Naval services, as well as conducting leading research in the areas of Sports Medicine and how it can be applied on the field.

Security Chief: First Lieutenant BEVIIN (CL-23-0192)
Height: 180cm – Weight: 84kg – Age: 18 years old CHRONOLOGICAL (28 years old BIOLOGICAL)

Given the occurrence of Atlantian Oceania's regional tournaments for both football and gridiron - both of which Gyatso-kai as sent delegations - at the same time as the World Cup of Hockey, the usual assignment of Captain Akaan and his detachment of 'Security Assistants' was not available to Head Coach Ishii and the Ice Bisons. Instead, First Lieutenant CL-23-0192 of the Besh Company within the First Avatarian Guard was assigned by The Avatar to oversee security for the Ice Bisons as they travel to the Anaia Region for the first time since the Foxchester Declaration.

A younger trooper than Akaan, CL-23-0192 (known as 'Beviin') is what is called a "standard trooper', in that his armor and training is not as specialised as that which Akaan -- being a Commando -- received. His personality is also a bit less 'militarised'; this leads to a bit more 'personal approach' to the job, which Beviin took with delight whereas Akaan often looks to the security detail jobs as "calm" and "boring". Nonetheless, should any issue arise that Beviin feels uncomfortable, Akaan will be but a comline away for advice.

After a regrettable showing in the 2021 AOlympics – going 4-1-1 and allowing six goals in the team’s silver-medal finish against unranked Efnakia – Head Coach Ishii Hakoda has shocked the Avatarian hockey world and replaced “The Permacrete Wall of Shu” with the young Norgbralan Ming Zhangshi, who has only played in four games in his career with the Ice Bisons up to his first start at World Cup of Hockey XLIV. Of course, the rest would be history with Ming, putting up a 0.942 Save Percentage and being the winning goaltender for the 44th World Cup, and helping the Ice Bisons go to their second consecutive AOHC Final.

If he keeps this up… Shu might be out of a job sooner, rather than later…

The defensive pair for the first line remains the same since WCoH XLI, with Omashu-fan-favorite Watang Kouji paired with Hed Torvik of Itakawai fame. A defensive line with over 200 kilos is somewhat of an Avatarian tradition, where speed is often sacrificed for power, though even for their size, Avatarian hockey players tend to be faster than one would expect. Watang, out of the Fire Nation, is known for powerful forechecks and his insane speed on the backskate; while Hed, otherwise known as the “Mandalorian Shield”, is just as impressive at generating offence as he is pushing another player into the boards.

The forward line, albeit a bit old, is anchored by the youthful Hosaka Severi, who recently was traded from Gaoling to the Seifoss Miners in the Imperial Hockey League in Arendalle; with his blinding speed on the ice, Hosaka has been a great asset for assisting on the wings and driving offense with the Avatarian standard of dump and play. Kobushi Kaede, unfortunately, suffered a season-ending concussion shortly after the AOlympics, and was not cleared for World Cup play. In his place, Bar’cay Godorow has been promoted from the Reserves to take the place of such an integral part of the Ice Bisons’ success over the years. Godorow is a very physical defenseman who plays remarkably aggressive for his age; he is as adept at boarding an opponent as he is taking a puck deep in the opponent’s zone and firing off a one-timer which finds the back of the net more frequently than not. Song Unataq, who has always been more defensively-minded, continues the trend of the line to be more interested in keeping puck possession and breaking up offensive rushes through size and determination. While Song stated in many an interview before World Cup XLIV that he would be retiring from multiverse play, scoring the tournament-winning goal and bringing home the World Cup rejuvenated the Elder Song, and he decided to return for chance of a repeat.

With Hiteki Kia having over a century of caps on the Ice Bisons under his belt, he is the most seasoned player on the team, and rightfully wears the first A. With age and skill, Hiteki is renowned for his ability as "damage control" through the last four World Cups he played in. Given the retirement of two of the four “Old Masters” of the Bisons, many were expecting Hiteki to announce his own retirement; especially at the age of 42. Yet, Hitkei has dodged the question of retirement time and time again. Having changed up his usual pairing from Hed Torvik to Ero’ki Nacer, the young right defensemen from Hatsu University and second year Badgermole finds himself yet again beneath the wings of “Sifu Hiteki” as many of the younger players respectfully refer to him as such. Nacer, who graduated right out of Hatsu University to sign an entry-level contract with the Badgermoles, found his number being called in the final games of the 2020.2 Regular Season, when last season’s first pick Hu Jiaozi was taken out of the season with a bad trip that saw him slide skate-first into the boards and break his tibia in two places. With an impressive season in the Republic Hockey League underway with the Humoki Huangdogs, he made the transition to AHL-level play with ease, and scored his first AHL goal against the Itakawai Lightning in Game One of the Finals.

On offense, Wang Torsti from Si Wong finds himself on the left side of the ice, after a renewed contract with Si Wong has been paying off for him. Opposite him we find Cheung Sepi who has continued to carve his name in the banks of the Kelita River. Even though he has been moved from the first line, Cheung is not taking it as an insult, and instead, viewing it as a chance to sharpen his own skills on the off-handed plays. In the middle, another once-first-liner Nestori Huan finds his return to the line better known for damage control rather than scoring. However, with his impressive knowledge and vision that had earned him his spot on the first line last World Cup, Huan may very well prove his doubters wrong and bring some glory to the second line… or find himself fading into obscurity…

OFF 17 KIL’OR Alecyc 27 L University of Kom’rk Itakawai Lighting

After the retirement of Kuang Deniigi with the AOlympics, the young Degour Niyan has been called up from the reserves to take his place. A scrappy young Mandalorian from the eastern reaches, Degour is incredibly volatile and prone to egging his opponents on to get into their heads. The fight finally left “The Master of Dengal”, and Ki’an Losow announced his retirement following the Bisons’ defeat in the AOlympics Finals. To replace such a veteran is no small task, yet many in the hockey community feel as though Jaster Kal’oki is up to the task. An impressively-sized Mando defenceman – one who can rival Hed Torvik on the scales – Kal’oki is known for his speed more than he is known for his brawn. Much like Losow, Kal’oki is quick to poke the puck away from any forward, bring it back within his wide reach, and pass it out to centre ice to any open forward with a surprising level of accuracy.

Offensively, the third line is filled with strong passers and even stronger shooters. Both Relicyc Tho-An and Souma Shichiro have done amazingly well in skills competitions involving accuracy and shot speeds; both players are younger and wanting to make a name for themselves. However, what is unique on the third line is the arrival of Kil’or Alecyc, an impressive power forward who saw his name behind many a goals in the last three tournaments as well as strong postseason play for the Lightning. Given the emphasis that Coach Ishii has put on slotting so many Lightning players into the third line, someone like Kil’or – a second-line Lightning player – paired with players from both the top line (Relicyc) and the bottom third (Godorow), many are calling for Ishii to simply make the entire line an Itakawau Convention.

Expect the third line to be more adept at cleaning up and bringing a more physically-minded offence to bear on their opponents.

Khardsland Hockey Team

Postby Khardsland » Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:04 am

Team Name: Revtons

Description: Although a fairly new team, the Revtons are a regional ice hockey team that rose to fame after destroying all their competitors. Their rise to fame was when they defeated the Kaisers by 36-0. They have received government funding and if their victories in the test matches are anything to go by, they have all it takes to win Khardsland its first international ice hockey game. Their 'big risks for big rewards' strategy is certain to help them dominate the early games.

RP Factors:
1. Significant Government Funding (The team is slightly better at their game than the rest)
2. Monks of the Cold (The team performs better in wintery regions but is worse in warmer regions)
3. Enterprising (The team takes risky moves that can help to either double their goals or cost them the match)

Note: All RP factors are just a first attempt and are not final. Suggesting better versions of these factors is much appreciated.

Player Names:

1. Rajesh Sampath (Male, 28)
Son of fisherman. Trained in village fields to play hockey before getting enough money to enter the professional world. His hardships can help him recover from his injuries faster.

2. Vikram Rao (Male, 34)
Son of a rich trader in Piotrshaven. He was able to enter the professional world with his father's money and thanks to his coach is a great attacker.

3. Neelima Tripathi (Female, 27)
Daughter of a poor family in Edmundia. She worked hard to get enough money to join a government ice hockey training class. Her skill and hardships make her a great defender and a natural sportswoman.

4. Rajesh Mason (Male, 29)
A defensive player and extremely skilled in his art. When asked about his playstyle, he only said 'I play to win'.

5. Sujal Agarwal (Transgender, 28)
The nation's first transgender ice hockey player. They are a skilled attacker and have almost inhuman reflexes.

6. Vivek Anand (Male, 30)
A natural leader who always prioritises his team over himself. He is very aggressive and has a record of several horrific injuries.

7. Sonali Kharde (Female, 39)
Standard goalie. She gets everything right but has a track record of using foul language throughout her career.

9. George Perry (Male, 43)
An immigrant who fled the civil war in Maxtopia to live a better life elsewhere. His hardships allow him to take several serious injuries like they were nothing but a scratch. A aggressive player who is not afraid to take risks.

10. Vijendra Chopra (Male, 40)
High endurance and stamina player, can go on for hours. Not the best at tracking back.

11. Ramesh Shetty (Male, 29)
A desperate measure in case all other players fail. His yodelling can distract opponents and cause them to hurt themselves on accident. Extremely controversial.

12. Fatimah Karim (Female, 28)
Migrated from Althaniq to Khardsland to live a new life. A great goalie but is known for her short temper.

13. Rajiv Patil (Male, 25)
An average player, already peaked at maximum potential. Great team player, but at times he needs to be selfish. Risks his team mates suffering injuries to score a goal.

Away Uniforms: White with Red Stripes and Dark Blue Lettering, Red with White Stripes and Black Lettering, Dark Blue with Orange Lettering

ATHEARAN NATIONAL TEAM - World Cup of Hockey XLVI

Atheara is prepared to enter back into the international scene, ice cold with the 46th WCoH.

After a few years of silence from the international world and hiding due to problems caused by our own, Atheara finally returns for the first time ever since the last time Atheara participated in a sporting tournament. The Councilliary Republic finally marks it's return by participating in the 46th edition of the World Cup of Hockey, a joy for many sports fans within and without the country. However, this return to the international sporting scene holds something far more than just a return. It also will mark Atheara's development. How did the sport, for a few years, develop with what knowledge and information that was gained from outside of the nation? How did it continue to develop? Well, for hockey, this tournament will be the start.

PLAYER ROSTER
N NAME POS AGE LINE DESC
12 Reece Vallagry RW 23 1st Line Fast and dazzling type of player. Weak shooting and quick to a temper, however.
5 Falker Van Thierredot RW 25 2nd Line Slow yet calm, reads the game well. Not good when under extreme pressure.
17 Connor Faulkey RW 24 3rd Line Experienced player in shooting, has that something to get an edge. He's more prone to injury than others.
20 Alex Lutrowski RW 19 Substitute Talent in the making and has that high potential. Still needs to sharpen up his mentality.

9 Bruce Widley - Hallest C 21 1st Line More of a defensive player and also a good passer. Sometimes too creative for his own good.
13 Graham Cagesson C 18 2nd Line Wary of his surroundings, yet a tricky player to read. But kind of has that big ego.
21 Micks Durrest Allagreg C 24 3rd Line Physically strong and can take a lot of hits. However, he's the slowest player on the team.
3 Kevin Kridzley C 23 Substitute Fancy type of player who likes showing off but gets it done. However, he gets anxious against worse teams.
16 Yurssen Bladstezcko C 26 Substitute A two for two player, can co-operate well with a partner. Has difficulty remembering there's a third.

2 Mark Walcott LW 25 1st Line Balanced and well controlled, highly mechanical player. But he does slip ups due to overconfidence.
19 Vincent Allabricks LW 19 2nd Line The type of player that never stands out, but always finishes the job good enough.
7 Elvin Trexan - Brockswyn LW 20 3rd Line A controlling player, tends to force mistakes. Yet he always relies on the game's tempo.
11 Lewis Prescott Da Lykes LW 21 Substitute Elusive and appears when needed. But when he isn't required, tends to just dissapear.

22 Zack Hertonovic D 19 1st Line Fast and can easily cover one on ones. But can get riled up extremely easily when trashtalked.
4 Rustwell Javelins D 25 1st Line A covering defender, always tends to make the defensive plays. Feels he deserves more recognition.
15 Erik Dohert - Cannabricks D 23 2nd Line Accelerating and a forward moving defender who can charge up front. He's not really good at defense.
8 Ian Dominic Trunsbert D 20 2nd Line High endurance and stamina player, can go on for hours. Not the best at tracking back.
18 Houston Van Jarsvell D 24 3rd Line Time bomb type of player. When he explodes, he catches the viewers attention. Tends to cause controversy.
14 Jack Norflatssen D 18 3rd Line An average player, already peaked at maximum potential. Great team player, but at times he needs to be selfish.
10 Peter Anderson D 22 Substitute Quick and strong, can cover even the scariest looking players. Poor decision making, however.
24 Denver Sorrenclough D 18 Substitute Always has a fiery passion in the rink. He's not as vocal as his teammates, which is a key factor.

1 Tristen Van Collaster G 23 1st Line Standard goalie. He gets everything right. However he is quick to exhaustion at times.
23 David Frackshwer - Alipin G 21 2nd Line A true team leader, and prioritizes the team over himself. Sometimes has a bad mood and can ruin the team vibe.
6 Kazuri Suzukara G 22 3rd Line Extremely fast, almost inhuman reflexes. Rarely expects his opponents to try something unique.
25 Maxwell Toriditsch G 19 Substitute Talented and could become one of the best. But he has never even played a professional game.

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL HOCKEY TEAM

First kit: whole green
Second kit: whole white.
After discussions about whether to sell advertising space on shirts in order to use the proceeds for paying additional premiums to players, it was decided to agree to this, but not to sell the entire area on T-shirts at once, but do this in parts, and for short periods, in order to maximize profits. So in some matches, the national team uniform may not look the same as the day before.

The Trolleborg ice hockey team participated in the world championships four times, and won 10 victories, drew 4 matches and was defeated in 16 games.

Head Coach – Vladimir Finn.

The leadership of the team was again entrusted to the national leader, under whose command it performed well - at least better than before - in the previous two tournaments. But it is clear that it will be very difficult to succeed in such circumstances.

Goaltenders:

Peter Shelburn (30 years old)
Torfinn Gronquist (28)

Defenders:

Torbjorn Ronning (27)
Soren Jespersen (26)
Lucius Halst (26)
Trond Kleft (27)
Rolf Runar (28)
Egil Kjellerud (26)
Rolf Viggen (26)
Bargash Holmgren (30)

Forwards:

Ruud Halgren (35)
Peter Farin (28)
Torben Garlok (27)
Mogren Brass (32)
Soren Jastreb (28)
Knut Reinhart (29)
Morten Bagger (29)
Jasper Irwin (27)
Ruud Woldring (26)
Vidar Riseth (28)
Hendrick Reuter (28)
Yakob Valgren (29)
Torgil Zhivoglot (26)
Finjord Ringberg (28)
Torben Haldrup (27)
Hendrick Nordstrand (27)
Jorgen Finne (25)
Jesper Sederland (26)
Jesper Hallstrup (27)
Casper Jorgen (25)

Head coach - as he always did - don't make public his ideas about who will play with whom in pairs and lines. Most probably, he will change and mix players in the lines as he see fit in concrete circumstances. Ruud Halgren probably will not be on ice often, but definitely will when team have a difficult moments or powerplay. Apart from him, powerplay team will be consisted of Soren Jespersen and Lucius Halt in defence, Bagger and Riseth as forwards.

Trolleborg teams, whatever sport they played in, take a long tail of loud fans, and hockey is second popular sport in the country, so every game will, probably, played under heavy roar of massed fans. For those who can't or won't travel TTV try to make a 3D broadcasting of highlights - but this technology is known for unreliability.

Greetings, compatriots!
It’s TTV from Britonisea.
Our long-suffering ice national hockey team arrived in this country to take part in the Ice Hockey World Championship held by the forementioned country and Mercedini. The players led by the head coach in person of our national leader Vladimir Finn have just arrived at the Sports Palace. Of course, on the eve of such a crucial event, we did not bother either the coaching staff or the hockey players themselves with interviews, but we can assure you that they looked very concentrated. After the last championship, we all expect new successes from them, of course, but we understand (we are understand, dear compatriots, really?), that it will be difficult to achieve something. The team has been already here for two days, already make a tour around the surrounding ski resorts, got some fresh air, and trains intensively twice a day - behind closed doors, true, but we can attest that all the players come out of training sweaty and panting. It is possible, however, that this is not due to the severity of the training itself, but the need to change the training plan due to the sudden change in the format of the tournament. We all expected to see 7 games at the group stage, and hoped that with such a number of matches our team would be able to reduce the depressing statistics of wins and losses to more pleasing indicators, not to mention the fact that they would take at least third place in the group and get into the playoffs didn't seem like an impossible task. The sudden change in format take a change in the training, four games instead of seven is leaves much less time and room for work, and makes it impossible for us to achieve at least a parity balance of victories and defeats until at least the next tournament, and maybe longer, and now to get into the playoffs you need to take first place, even second may no longer be suitable. And we got into the group our good friends from TJUN-ia, who once started in basketball with us in the same pot, but pushed our team aside at the group stage at that time and then rose to the heights of the basketball world, i.e. the situation for hockey players now is similar to the situation for basketball players then, which, given the superstitions prevailing in our country, has (probably) a very negative impact on the psychology of fans. In addition, StrayaRoos, Dod Rava and Arreba compete in our group, we don’t know anything about last two of the three, and the first of the listed ones will strongly strive to recoup for the not-so-good performance at the previous championship, so our fans need to tighten up and support hockey players as thoroughly as possible. As far as I can tell, tickets are still available...

AH! Judging by the noise from inside the palace, the team went to the warming up on the ice. Let's hurry to the stands, the live broadcast will start soon and we invite everyone to the screens and 3D zones.

HOCKEY
Kelssek team named for World Cup, pundits chew over omission of young star

The country’s hottest rising star will not be going to the World Cup of Hockey, after all. The squad announcement did not include Clayquot Partisans centre Ewing Chowdhury, the 19-year old who has already notched 48 KHL goals in his first season in the big league and been touted as a future superstar.

No doubt Chowdhury’s omission is a disappointment for the fans but the excitement of seeing the breakthrough of a youngster with such evident talent can also be deceptive. Hockey insiders have near-unanimously declared themselves unsurprised that Chowdhury hasn't made the cut, pointing to the need to develop dimensions to his game other than being good at shooting the puck at the net.

If head coach Darren Duncan was annoyed by the story focusing on who didn’t make the team rather than the players who did, he did well to hide it. Admitting that Chowdhury was a “serious consideration”, he added that the coaching staff decided there’s a lot more to winning at the international level than flashy dekes or a lightning-quick shot release.

Part of it can be that the national coaches are assessing him as a centre, meaning a much higher bar for defensive awareness, devaluing the impressive scoring numbers. Other question marks surround whether he’d be able to get around international level defenders as easily as at the KHL level.

“You try some of those moves in the show, you’re just going to get flattened. They look good on TV but those are risky plays that if they don’t work, are going to give up turnovers and give coaches nightmares.”

It’s hard to see him sitting at home for much longer, though. With some growth and experience at his current level these issues with his game can be ironed out.

Jovannic Roster for the World Cup of Hockey XLVI

The Jovannic has had a not very successful bt somewhat engaging history in the sport of Ice Hockey. Starting in the World Cup XL, The Jovannic won a singular game against Solarampa. Let's just skip that one.

In edition XLIII, The Jovannic started off quite well, and although the players representing us were unnamed due to a logistical error, they stuck with a strategy of stubbornly holding until Overtime before taking the victory then. Winning one game in regulation against Vilitia and Tuori, The Emperors then produced two Overtime victories and one overtime loss, most impressively a 3-2 win over Delaclava. Unfortunately, our very amateur team soon lost their opening enthusiasm, with a winless second half leading us to finish close to the bottom of our group. Nevertheless, the Emperors (This time named) will be looking to produce some upsets, as well as to aim for a successful return to international competition.

Head Coach: Sandres Miron (59)
Assistant Coach: Burdler Harigald (41)

Under Miron, The Jovannic has traditionally gone for a patient, long game preferring approach, playing a principled 2-1-2 Forechecking formation, and rarely getting into big scruffles. He aims to neutralise the attacking threat of the opponent while in turn placing considerate pressure on the opposing structure. Harigald is the first assistant coach ever appointed to the Jovannic Ice Hockey team, given the slight increase of funding owning to the small but steadily increasing interest in the sport. He is a hard-nosed supporter of the relentless attack, aiming to achieve a decisive advantage within the first period, and to fight decisively at every chance. His influence has made The Jovannic ever so slightly more attacking, but his lack of international experience, as well as the already proven lack of stamina and experience to push to this intensity for long has prevented him from currently making a substantially large influence on the style of play practiced by Sandres Miron

Notes:
The team's special teams tend to struggle, as they are more likely to score goals when it's 5 v 5.

As Banija is a country that lacks winter, the sport's popularity struggles inside the country itself. However, Banijans rank as some of the largest migratory people in the multiverse, as there are multitudes of Banijan migrant communities across Atlantian Oceania and far beyond. Therefore, the vast majority of places come from those Banijan migrant communities, in countries that actually have winter. Ice hockey has, quite famously, become a sport that migrant Banijan communities rally around, as thanks to the GBHL, it has become a way to connect both to other Banijan migrant communities, as well as the homeland.

The other World Cup is here- with World Cup Qualifying about to get underway, meet the Banijans who will expend their energy on the WCoH

BRITONISEA- The World Cup of Hockey is upon us, and per usual, there isn't much hype in Banija about the tournament. The lack of winter in Banija is a severe cap on Banijan interest in hockey(and, indeed, any other winter Olympic sport). Yet, it doesn't mean that there isn't hockey around here. Quite famously, ice hockey is seen as a unifying sport of the Banijan migrant communities, and a great way for many of these communities to have big-time events outside of temple. So pretty much all of these players are either migrants themselves from Banija abroad, or the sons and daughters of those migrants who grew up in countries with winter(or grew up in Mriin).

For the better or for the worse, that means there isn't much pressure associated with this national team. "Look, in hockey crazy countries- like Quebec, Valanora, Siovanija & Teusland, etc... There is a ton of pressure playing on the national team, from fans and the media." Said a Banijan hockey analyst. "And that pressure is seen in Banija on other sports. Ask any World Bowl players if there's pressure playing for their country. Even a sport like lacrosse- where the sport was grown, and then the pressure followed. And of course, there's the Kadongo Kamu. But relative to many of their rivals, there's probably a relative peace among national team players. They are going to be celebrated, at home, basically no matter what they do. The standard at home is low. Therefore, as long as they aren't getting rocked, most Banijans are going to be happy for the national team."

Of course, some players like that, others don't- but that basically is what it is. There can be benefits, but many drawbacks. For one- Banijan fans, which are known for travelling so well in other sports, are known for the opposite of that in ice hockey. "It means that Banijan fans are basically always outnumbered at any neutral site contests." Said this hockey TV analyst. "Obviously, that isn't ideal. Is there even a game during these group stages where we can break the 50/50 mark? Probably not. And, of course, it probably puts a virtual ceiling on success- we've got to produce more players if we ever want to truly be mentioned among the powers of this sport."

And that, of course, is the goal. The rebuilding job for ice hockey in Banija is a long one, said the team's Siovanijan head coach- but the tide is going to start to turn. "Look- we are going to really start making progress here at WCoH 46, I can feel it." Said head coach Dieter Lobe. "We've got a group of young, hungry players- even though the format is a tough one." This is one of those rare years, where even the group runners-up are not guaranteed a place in the knockout stages, or even a play-in game. "It means that we need to start quickly. This opening game is going to be really important- if we start behind the 8 ball, then we can put ourselves in a totally unnecessary, early hole."

Banija open the tournament as slight underdogs against co-hosts Britonisea, in their own city.

Mercedinian Hockey Federation presents...
Image
Image

Head Coach: Image Ibrahim Lustik • Trigramme: MRC • Nickname: The Kingfishers

The Kingfishers are back for the 46th World Cup of Hockey and it's a special one for them, since it's the first tournament they are playing in, as the host nation. After a successful bid, the region of Novapax plays host to Ice Hockey's premier international hockey, with a champion being crowned in Zoloroni in a couple of weeks time. For the Kingfishers, they will play all of their potential games at home, with their group stage matches taking place in Acoflosa and Orga, before the remaining teams travel across the nation for the knockout rounds. Dini go into this tournament with a fair degree of momentum, coming into the 46th edition as World #6 following a third place finish last edition. With home advantage in their favour. Things are looking up for the MHF, with this tournament used to solidify their place in the hockey-playing establishment following a slew of recent Top 4 finishes at the tournament. The one thing missing is a senior world hockey title, which is a key goal for the team before the tournament reaches it's half-century anniversary.

Mercedinian-style hockey is much more irregular than its regulation counterparts from other nations, with players often staying on the ice for large periods of time, rarely changing only for injuries and drastic tactical changes. Changes are typically made during the inter-period intervals, game pauses/delays, or during special events such as power plays or short-handed periods, where management and coaches then assess tactics and change the line-ups from there. Changes are often made man for man at a specific position on the ice rather than a whole line change all at once, meaning there can be hundreds of different combination of players available to the coaching staff throughout the tournament, all depending on the opponents they are playing. This means Mercedinian hockey players are extremely fit and have tremendous stamina to last vast swathes of the period. However, as a trade-off, tactical adaptability does become a challenge, with players excelling in some areas while lacking in others, with those qualities dependant on their preferred play styles in the game. With tournaments getting longer and longer through the editions, fatigue has been a major factor in stifling Mercedinian runs for the crown.

GOALTENDERS
GT Carter Subnik 24 Image Ozzaya Agranka Synthesis
GT Tanama Ishigori 25 Image Sutsik Krazhinarets
GT Bjornar Danielsson 21 Image Monmouth Seagulls

Following their third place finish in the last edition, the complete refresh of the goalkeeping roster has been renewed for another edition, with Carter Subnik the number one choice for the tournament. Lustik's Carte Blanche in last edition's roster was a switch up to the usual stalwarts, and meant teams couldn't predict the new Mercedinian playstyle with this new roster. Now things are more known, tactics might change in the tournament, as predictability has sunk many Mercedinian ships in the past. Ozzaya Agranka's Carter Subnik returns for more international caps, with the 24-year old rewarded for multiple big performances to guide his team to third place. It is hoped that he can recreate those performances in Mercedini once again and make it a tournament to remember for the young keeper, and any potential fans looking to make some noise for their team. Ishigori and Danielsson will also return in minor roles, with this trio tipped as the next generation of Mercedinian goaltenders, is it a one-edition-wonder? Or can they stick it out for the long run?.

D Simeon Entselli 23 Image Acoflosa Penguins
D Florian Santzin 22 Image Northern Zenith

D Milos Rebrani 25 Image Zoloroni City Icers
D Yannik Glonnasov 19 Image Naral PHC

Much of the same when it comes to the defensive roster, with Lustik not wanting to break the chemistry of the team. Santzin from Northern Zenith and Glonnasov from Naral were the two newcomers into this defensive line-up, and they are able to go one more time for their national team thanks to their rather limited performances throughout the group stage. Lustik seems to have solved the leaky defence issues that plagued the previous national team coach, and the 1-0 win for third place to round out last edition was a testament to how much the team style has changed. They have gone from an all out attack team which crumbled as soon as they faced a good defence, to a team that picks their moments and doesn't let the occasion get to them.

When it comes to attacking prowess, Mercedini are one of the world leaders in the sport of football, but hockey is largely an untouched market when it comes to internationally recognised players in many reaches of the multiverse. However, with plenty of new faces introduce for the 45th edition, there are new gems to find in the rough of the MSL. A hodgepodge mix of first and second tier players in Mercedini managed to hang with the best of them, and inject plenty of financial and sporting capital into the domestic leagues of Mercedinian hockey. Last time around, the attacking roster was one of the big bright spots of a good campaign for the Mercedinians, but they have certainly taken a back seat when it comes to this new, more balanced playstyle. In recent tournaments, it has been less of a capitulation, more of an unfortunate result which saw their perfmances bested on the day. With the crowd behind them in Acoflosa and Orga, it's hoped that the Kingfishers can make it a performance to remember for the home fans at their World Cup Of Hockey.

Team name: Græntfjall
TLA: GRÆ [GRF when not available]
Demonym: Græntfjaller
Team nickname: Ice Wolves

Kit: White with blue detail and blue socks; alternate is the reverse. Because all Græntfjaller names are patronymic, players typically have their first name on the backs of their shirts.

Coach: Marís Finnsson
Assistants: Diðrik Júníusarson, Þorvarður Helmútsson

Following consecutive semifinal runs, Marís Finnsson and his team have unsurprisingly been retained as coaching staff. Having spent some time coaching overseas, he continues the trend of incremental improvements from Græntfjall’s traditionally uncultured, rough-and-tumble style towards more sophisticated tactical refinements.

Squad: A 22-person squad has been named for the tournament.
  • The Pavolan Hockey (PHL) is the national hockey league and rivals the GPL (football) for popularity in terms of the national sport.
  • Græntfjaller players tend to be on the bigger side [by human standards], and very physical, fore-checking and back-checking with equal vigor. But this means trading off for speed and most are not skilled puck-handlers by international standards. They hit a lot of one-timers.
  • PHL rules are laxer on charging, cross-checking, and shots to the head than international rules.
  • Fighting is a basically unknown phenomenon in the PHL.
  • An unusually similar squad has been announced, with the only big change Bjarni Davíðsson’s retirement. The veteran defender has been replaced by Ljótur Ævarsson.
1. Tom Finngeirsson – G
3. Kristoffer Rudisson – RW [A]
8. Karim Raknarsson Zain – C
15. Mír Þóroddsson – RW
17. Ríó Ferdinandsson – D
20. Þorkell Magnþórsson – LW
21. Eiríkur Hálfdánsson – LW
26. Dýrmundur Asbjørnsson – RW [A]
34. Skorri Mikaelsson – C
38. Ljótur Ævarsson – D
39. Kjarval Snorrason – D
55. Hákon Helmútsson – LW
58. Ben Espensson – D
59. Orfeus Herbertsson – G
60. Lukas Jalmarisson – C
62. Bjarnþór Náttúlfsson – D
68. Jack Jokulsson – C
79. Víkingur Gunnólfursson – RW
81. Lárentíus Mattíasarson – G
87. Bjarnleifur Asgeirsson – D [C]
89. Christian Sofusson – LW
90. Róbert Grímúlfursson – D

Lines will be flexible and adjusted over the course of the tournament but provisionally:

GK1: Tom
Tom is a 6’3” hybrid-style goalkeeper who has already proven himself the most consistent of the PHL goalkeepers, even if he's generally played on teams without the offensive power to deliver many wins.

D1: Ben – Bjarnleifur
D2: Kjarval – Ríó
D3: Ljótur – Bjarnþór
7th: Robert
Bjarnleifur Asgeirsson continues as captain. By far the best two-way player, he’s partnered with the defensive bruiser Ben, a big, heavy, hard-hitter. Most of the rest are even bigger, even heavier, and even harder-hitting. Robert is the closest thing the team has to a designated enforcer. Ríó is the first non-white player to represent the Ice Wolves.

L1: Christian – Jack – Dýrmundur
L2: Þorkell – Lukas – Kristoffer
L3: Hákon – Skorri – Mír
L4: Eiríkur – Karim – Víkingur
This is by consensus the strongest front line in Ice Wolf history not, with Christian’s skilled skating, Jack’s scoring touch and two-way physicality, and Dýrmundur’s size and killer slap shot combining for a potent combination. Lukas is a very good second center. Karim is the first Muslim to represent the Ice Wolves, though he is not religiously observant.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Maybe, ask first if you have something unusual planned
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes, but let me determine the severity
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Maybe, ask first and let me determine the severity
Godmod Other Events: Maybe, ask first
Other: You can sign any of my players should you wish (or draft from the WJHC), given how bad my own league is I'm happy to send them overseas, just shoot me a TG

A note on penalties: Græntfjallers will probably be perceived as dirty players by international standards, but they are not intentionally out to inflict cheap shots, but rather used to league rules that are laxer on checking. Most could not even spell ‘concussion protocol’.

A note on fighting: Fighting has now become more common in the PHL, but be reasonable. Our players are here to skate, not fight, but will fight if provoked. Most should be physically able to handle themselves; I don’t object to you RPing your players ‘winning’ fights but don’t have them mop the ice with mine.

A note on pictures: Please do not use photographs of RL people/teams/stadiums and say they are my players/team/country.

Hockey is one of the big three indoor sports in winter-spring season for Quebec and Shingoryeo alongside basketball and volleyball. Traditionally regarded as one of the most historical names in the sport, the World Cup of Hockey 26 champions have signed up not as their usual moniker of Quebec and Shingoryeo, a title the Imperial Sporting Council, one of two immediate bodies between the Ministry of Sport and Hockey Quebec, has retired, but as Independent Athletes from Quebec. Bulk of the reasoning behind this decision, one that follows a precedence from the original I.A.Q. representation in the international football scene, was the continued disputes between the ISC, Hockey Quebec and the QHL Players' Association (QHLPA). The disputes are generally viewed to come from the questions about scheduling mid-season international windows (footballers like this, hockeyists not really lol), and not to mention but the heart of it was over revenue split of the games. Even before the ISC's decision to retire the banner, the squabbles have long caused the alteration of full-strength, collegiate and junior national teams over past ten World Cups, meaning that the decision to retire the Ice Knights in favour of Grim Reapers, while surprising on the headlines, were perhaps inevitable.

The complicated and messy nature of this split means that each and every cycle the Independent Athletes team from Quebec and Shingoryeo will represent a certain group of players. This will likely mean an age side (usually Under-18s or Under-20s), a collegiate side, or even a regional sides take part, with the players expected to represent the Tricolour Taegeuk in a respectful manner. The coverage for this Team Quebec, due to the challenge of being an 'independent side', would remain limited, with the IAQ team not receiving as much newspaper or television coverage unlike their football equivalents. As with past editions, however, Hockey Quebec will continue to provide necessary staffing and other needed assistance into the tournament.

Anyways, let's go and check out this squad:

”Once… Twice… Three times a lady!“
– The Commodores

As the first matches of the Forty-Sixth Edition of the World Cup of Hockey are already underway, the two-time reigning Champions of the Multi-verse, the Ice Bisons of the Avatarian Republics of Gyatso-kai, are sitting in their hotel rooms in Darkmania, waiting for the second matchday of the tournament.

For the Ice Bisons, this tournament is a chance to etch their names into history, doing something only two other teams have done in the entire history of multi-verse ice hockey. Not satisfied to win just one World Cup, the Ice Bisons pushed past all expectations from a historic run in Quebec to take a second World Cup from the ice in Uberwienerschnitzelstadt and surprise the ice hockey community here in Gyatso-kai yet again.

Now, Ishii Hakoda, entering the fourteenth tournament of his career as Head Coach, looks to further cement his name in history. Already, there are some who dare compare him to the great Kad Skirata; the first coach of the Avatarian National Team, and the man who after nine tournaments toppled the great nation of Havl and took Gyatso-kai’s first World Cup. It was Skirata who took a young Ishii, shaped him into one of the greatest centers Avatarian Hockey has ever known, and in his retirement, selected and mentored Ishii into a worthy successor…

Yet, before we talk of hypothetical victories in war, we must look to the battles of the coming days…

Puck Watch!: The New Ten Starts Strongly

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Sep 23, 2022 5:20 am

After a long wait, it's finally time for a new era to take hold of this sport. The Ice Jaguars of TJUN-ia are back for the 46th World Cup of Hockey, co-hosted by Mercedini and the region of Novapax...but under a new feeling. Ølson Rasmussen still leads this team on the bench but now, 10 of TJUN-ia's finest are gone and 10 more young players (including the first-ever women to ever play for this team) are now in the position of having to fill some very big shoes. Ryan Pericic is now the captain with Chris Jeeves, the new defensive leader Ki Hwa-Na and the new starting goalie Chulalonnkorn "Chula" Shinawatra the new under-captains. This team is a mix of old and new, of fresh blood and the players we all know and love, but one thing remains certain: this team to going to fight, no matter what.

All of our group stage games will take place in the "Tennis Lord Nation" of Britonisea, with the Loueske Arena hosting Game 1 against debutants Arreba. We know absolutely nothing about this team other than the fact they are debutants and they managed to score their only goal early on. But once this new-look team managed to get used to the new set-up, things would certainly work smoother than before and the goals began to fly in. 5 different players would score in this first game to secure everything we needed to make the win possible - Ryan Pericic, Danil Svengren, John Gallagher, debutant Luis Olivares and, making history for herself, Lan Yih-Wen, the first woman to score for her country at this competition. Our play was certainly consistent and in the end, that's all we needed...and that's all we hope can lead us to some sort of glory in the end.

Up next will be our toughest test before the bye as we take on the team ranked directly above us in the pre-season - Trolleborg. The Trolls have certainly done some great things in this sport and no matter what, we should not underestimate them at all...especially considering this will be their first game of the entire WCoH. A big game on MD2...who will claim the bragging rights? GO ICE JAGS!

Jääkiekko. Tämän kansan elinehto. Ja nyt... olemme menossa maailmanlaajuisesti. Ice Hockey is a sport that runs through the lifeblood of this Rogue Kingdom alongside rally, sauna and the number 7. This sport has always fascinated us, always seen our finest take to its ice, and now, finally, the KSJ has enlisted the help of Hannes Lehtonen and a group of the best players, male and female, to try and build a legacy for our sport across the multiverse as we know it. No one knows what will be on the other side in this journey we are about to start but here in Mercedini...the first steps are about to be taken.

Our first match would be up against Kanadan Dominio, the Canadian Dominion, at VolareMercedini Park in Acoflosa and this contest would be a love letter to this sport that we all love, a game where everything and anything was told and everything was still undecided heading into the final act. The ranked team would score first thanks to Sawyer Lee, but we would strike back thanks to Erik Ekman-Larsson making some history in P1. In P2, we would actually take the lead thanks to Felizia Bouveng, but the Goose was certainly strong with this one and Tucker Peters would equalise. The final period was our final stand, great defence by all those involved, but in the end, the Goose was too strong and Nolan Dawson would end it with 2 minutes to go.

We certainly stood our ground and while we lost...that's OK. We showed our strength in this game, our fight and our passion, that was all we needed to show. We'll go on our by now but after that, it's fellow debutant Depivik at Connexion Stadium in Orga for our 2nd game. We're finally here now...for better or for worse. NOSTA KUIN LEIJONAT!

SCHEDULE/AJOITTAA (Group A, all games in Mercedini)
MD1: vs Kanadan Dominio [Canadian Dominion] (45) - VolareMercedini Park, Acoflosa L 2-3 (4th)

MD3: vs Depivik (UR) - VolareMercedini Park, Acoflosa
MD4: vs Mercedini (6) - Connexion Stadium, Orga

National Party comes to an end in three-way split

Marisa Lavallier, Londinium Courier

The National Party was born on a cloudy day in 2015, when King Voss led a right-wing exit from the mainstream People's Party. It exploded onto the scene, winning seven deputies in its debut election, rising to 10 deputies and four senators in the 2018 election that saw the Progressive Justice Party lose an election for the first time ever. Now, seven years later, on a cloudy day in 2022, as King Voss serves life in prison for his role in the Londinium mosque bombing, the National Party has imploded, tearing itself apart over ideological, regional, and personal differences. In its wake have emerged three parties who hope to capture the hearts and minds of right-wing voters, but they will face an already-crowded landscape and the task of emerging out from under the cloud of scandal that engulfed the Nationals.

It began two weeks ago in Londinium when former deputy Connie Walker and current senator and party leader Rear Adm. Hugh Townsend met to discuss the future of the party and how to revive its fortunes. Although both had virulently opposed Christopher Mathewson, who had eventually walked out of the party to form the Christian Patriotic Vanguard, they didn't see eye to eye on many issues. For Townsend, a strong national defense and a binding sense of national unity were the key to any election victory. As for Walker, fighting back against immigration was his number one concern. They met for three days, but we know now that they could not come to an agreement.

Meanwhile, in New Brunswick, Meredith Rogers-Cole was seething. She was the party's only elected representative in any provincial House of Deputies; how dare she not have been invited? Walker didn't even hold a government office. So she set to work. Inspired by the examples of Newfoundland First and Belle Patrie, which had been formed when provincial branches of the National Party in Newfoundland & Labrador and Quebec had seceded from the national branch, merging with other parties to form new entities. Well, if they could do it, so could she. She gathered together representatives from the three Maritime provinces and together, they hatched a plan to form a new party of their own. Last week, the three provincial branches each held meetings to dissolve themselves and merge into a new party: the Maritimes Democratic Union. Rogers-Cole was elected as its leader and promised to defend the regional autonomy, distinct heritage, and traditional economy of the three provinces. They announced plans to contest the upcoming local elections in each of the three provinces at the end of this year.

This news sent a shockwave through the national branch of the party. They quickly called an extraordinary conference to discuss how to respond to this development, but it did not end the way they had hoped. The national branch was present, and rump factions from each of the five provinces arrived, as well as the intact branch from the Admin Zone. It was a small affair, and power struggles between Walker and Townsend soon overtook any real agenda. Finally, Townsend's allies took control of the conference and voted to dissolve the national branch and transfer all funding to a new party, the Defenders of Nova Anglicana. Townsend was swiftly elected leader of this new party, and he pledged to bolster the national defense, increase spending on veterans, and promote patriotic education in schools. His supporters in the national branch were joined by the rump Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island factions, both of which host major military bases.

As for Walker, he vowed to contest the funding issue in court, and withdrew with his national branch supporters and the rump New Brunswick faction to lick his wounds. Just yesterday, he announced that his remnant would merge with the Family First Party, a splinter group from the far-right Dominionist Party, to form the Traditionalist Democratic Rally. Along with Walker's fierce anti-immigration message, the new party has also set out "opposing the LGBT agenda" and "supporting the traditional family" as its goals, incorporating a rise in the minimum wage and the child benefit into their new platform. Walker proclaimed that his new party would seek to win seats "on every county and city council throughout the Maritimes" in preparation for entering Parliament in 2024.

As for the rump Quebec and intact NAAZE branches of the Nationals, the Quebec faction gave up the ghost and voted to join Belle Patrie, while the NAAZE branch remains the only National Party left in the country. It's not clear if they'll keep the name, found a different party, or simply melt away to join new parties, but they're alone for now. King Voss has refused all interviews since the founding of these three parties, but he can't be happy that the party he intended to be a permanent, agenda-setting, right-wing force has splintered into six different parties since his arrest and imprisonment. It now appears that the force of Voss' personality was the only thing holding his party together. Military men, anti-immigration zealots, reactionaries, regionalists, and advocates for a conservative working-class party were simply too diverse and too forceful to work together for long. Either way, Voss is no doubt fuming at the loss of his legacy.

So what happens now? While the right wing won approximately 395,000 votes in the 2021 election, the Nationals and Family First only won 143,000, or a little more than a third of that vote. With neither the Nationals nor any of their splinter parties entering Parliament in 2021, further splitting doesn't look likely to help. But who knows? Perhaps Townsend's relentless focus on military matters will clarify the party's vision and allow it to be seen as more moderate, earning it votes. Maybe Meredith Rogers-Cole's talk of defending local interests can help her better the results of NF and BP and push her over the top (though she's certainly got an easier time of it, taking votes from three provinces instead of one). Or perhaps there really is a hunger for social conservatism that isn't being filled in the electorate and Walker will be the big winner. Maybe Arsène Deslauriers' talk of a "new, popular centre" will cause right-wing voters attracted by Ramsey to drift back to these parties. Whatever happens, the local elections in nine months will be the first big test for each of these groups. None of them have much influence, except for Townsend's DNA (three senators), so they'll have to practice a great ground game if they hope to find success in 2022.

The Dragonflies sat out round one of the 46th World Cup of Hockey - by design - so we have tape on our opponents while they haven't been able to prepare for us yet. Delaclava recorded a routine 3-1 victory over new outfit Evinea - talk about a name that sounds like it could be town in Aerellen - while Sudilia made their (limited) experience work for them in a 1-0 over Lacfroid. It's a slow-ish start for the World Cup with the top seeds all sitting out the first round, but we did see Banija in a 1-0 over Britonisea, TJUN-ia in midseason form with a 5-1 over Arreba, and perhaps the biggest game of the round in perhaps the best group of this tournament - Cassadaigua smashing Quebec 5-2. The Ko-orenite TV viewers saw all seven goals - the production crew chose to broadcast that match during that timeslot. Other timeslots were filled with simulcasts, but gravitating towards Vilita & Turori, Banija, and group rivals Delaclava.

Expectations are high for the Dragonflies, who will have their hands full with Delaclava, and a Lacfroid team that could be stronger than their record indicates. Janszoon is bearing a lot of those expectations as the main man in goal, while players like Aeniva (36), Buck (32), and Ailise (35) should see this as their last chance at leaving a legacy. Despite all the work put in by so many people, and the national team enjoying a top 10 status for a while, we're stuck on one final appearance - and even that felt like a stretch at the time. The time to go back to the big game is now. Ehoni, Heerekornuit, Aolopei, Aone Aenec, they're all playing better than ever. Give it a few years and we could see Janszoon, Aedeti Aenec, Winterhaag, Loenaren, and several other wingers entire their prime - but at that point we'll have lost all links to the team that got us into the top 10 initially. That's not a bad thing, just an observation, but it's a weird feeling to see a completely different group of players from the ones we've grown to love over time.

What else is there to say about a team that hasn't played yet? Tune in for the opener versus Delaclava - a match that might define the way the group looks for the remaining three rounds after that. Don't forget to check out the other groups, as all top seeds take on the 2nd seed challengers: Mercedini versus Vilita and Turori, Cordian Isles versus Cassadaigua, Græntfjall versus Banija, Elejamie versus Kelssek - the one game featuring higher ranked teams that our own - and world's number one Gyatso-Kai versus Abanhfleft. Among others.

Name Change: Aevarea League

The clunky 'Ko-orenite Ice Hockey League' is no more. The 12-team professional league will continue under a new name, the Aevarea League, named after main sponsors Aevarea Tech, themselves named after the highest mountain on the northeastern islands. It comes full circle with that, as seven out of twelve clubs call those northeastern islands home. The league will start branding under the new name with the start of the upcoming season.

Image

Since going professional, the ice hockey league has struggled to keep its teams profitable. Some teams were never in doubt, while the new markets haven't brought about an influx in Koronas as promised. The merger of the Explorers and Mariners, expected to create a top three team in fan engagement, has fallen a little flat as figures indicate that some disgruntled fans are turning to the second tier, which has taken over the top tier's 'pure' image. The new market of the Arboren Vortex has underperformed financially, though that must have some root in the poor performance of the team, with one of the older teams in the league - it looks like the Vortex won't be contenders until after a rebuild that will take a lot from the new fanbase's patience. The Lamau-Dartha team in northern Sudaefjoll, taking fans away from southern Sudaefjoll's Straudum Ice, are very well received. The team has brought in new fans: people that often relocated to the northeast only recently for economic opportunities, particularly in the tech sector, which has set up shop in northern Sudaefjoll in the last decade.

Pairing up with Aevarea Tech should give the league the immediate cash it needs to pay its staff and players, while also having that little extra to secure a better talent pipeline, and draw the national spotlight, particularly in winter, for more time on TV - and with that, more advertisement income.

Plus-sized Second Tier Under Way

Two ten-team leagues will start play soon, as there's still room for more sports teams in the northeast, especially with ice hockey getting more attention in the area. The first thing that stands out is the lack of Aerellen islands teams - just four of twenty are from there - but that's a deliberate move to counterbalance the Aerellen focus in the top division. In the eastern league, we find the four Aerellen teams, as well as some unorthodox choices by putting five teams in the massive peninsula of northeastern Ko-oren, including dedicated teams for Dartha and Lamau to foster some identities that are glossed over with the top tier's Lamau-Dartha Hunters (who play in the town of Elinum by the way, not in either Lamau or Dartha). There is one obvious weird choice: the 'south'-eastern island of Alara also gets a team: Alara, usually viewed as one cultural unit with the rest of the southeastern islands, who are more known for their (sub)tropical rainforests, summer baseball, and other warm weather activities - but Alara, as the northernmost of the bunch, actually does get cool temperatures in the cold half of the year and while they have excellent baseball weather in summer, there's definitely some room for ice hockey in winter.

The western league is focused on two things: 1) supporting the Schemerdrecht team in the Banijan league (or drawing attention away from that team, depending on how you look at it) by putting two teams in the north's largest city, and 2) small towns with strong regional identities across the north and west coast. Tathsoren, Bedkausjuth, Monradhau, Chalya, Mewinurra - they won't be towns you've heard of, even if you have travelled extensively in Ko-oren. But they have strong sports identities, have a strong function as regional centres for the area, and that's the two big factors that the Aevarea League is looking for in places that could well give us a lot of ice hockey talent. Not to mention the opportunity for games on natural ice on Sorerla Lake in northwestern Ko-oren.

Just one goal separates Banija from the pack across 120 minutes of hockey on Matchday 1

BRITONISEA- There were two games to kick off Group C here at the 46th World Cup of Hockey. With all the Pot 1 teams from across the multiverse having their bye games on Matchday 1, it was a great chance for all of the other teams in the group to get off to a fast start. This is a more difficult WCoH than other tournaments- with not even the 2nd place teams in the groups being guaranteed passage, as only 6 of 10 will get there. So winning the group is the goal, even more so, for everybody- and getting off to a fast start helps work towards that goal. And in Group C, Banija took on co-hosts Britonisea in the group's opening match, which was followed by 33rd ranked Atheara taking on an unranked Khardsland.

The matchday went about as well as it could go for the Banijans. Obviously, that meant we came away with all three(Editor's note: in hockey, it's two) points, as a second period goal from NT debutant Muhammad Ngoche, who plays left wing on Banija's second line, was enough to get Banija the win. "It's great to score a goal for your country, especially if it's a match winner in your debut." Ngoche, who would also be eligible for Busoga if they actually had a national ice hockey team. "It's an exciting feeling, even in a match that was functionally a road match." It was, as Britonisea, as tournament co-hosts, had well over probably 90% of the fans in the building. Ngoche's goal was fantastic too, as it was a wrap around wrist shot, that went through the 5-hole.

Banija's goaltender, the 33 year old Mompoloki Olefile, had his first shutout of this World Cup as well. "Look- we're out here in a functional road game, in a hostile environment, where the fans are loud and right on top of us." Olefile told reporters after the game. "We really had to unify as a team, to understand that we had to rely on each other and only each other, and not to simply ride the swings of momentum within the game. Stay disciplined, stay focused, stay within our plan. Now, we didn't necessarily expect a shutout, but absolutely the defensive standards of this team are high." Olefile made 31 saves throughout the contest. The other game, Atheara v. Khardsland, was a 0-0 tie, a good result for Banija. That meant neither team could get all the points on offer, and put Banija as the only goalscoring nation in our group so far, as well as in sole possession of first after just one game.

Things only get harder for the Banijans, however. After the tight win over the co-hosts, they are drawn against the third best team in the multiverse- Græntfjall. "The White Winter Queendom will be a great test of where we are, where this team is at, how good this team actually is." Said the team's Siovanija head coach. "Nothing is easy out here- everything must be earned at a World Cup, and while this was a solid road win, it means nothing unless we can build on it. Græntfjall are #3 in the world for a reason, and they are not only the overwhelming favorites in this group, but a favorite to win the whole damn thing, for a reason. They can do it all- attack, skate, defend, play quickly, have a fantastic hockey culture, etc... It will be a great contest."
