.II ANAIAN ONE-DAY CRICKET COMPETITION: SIGNUPS/OOC THREAD.

Introduction

Welcome to the sign-up and OOC thread for the inaugural edition of the Anaian One-Day Cricket Competition (name pending). As Anaia is home to a number of sides that express a very strong interest in cricket, this region-wide tournament will hopefully unite the region of Anaia through shared links of sport, and more particularly, cricket. The One-Day International format (ODI) was chosen as a starting point for this cricket tournament as a median between Test cricket and Twenty20 cricket.

This thread may be used to post rosters to sign up and to discuss matters related to the tournament or Anaian cricket in general.

Sign-up & Instructions

Nations intending to sign up should ideally be in Anaia at the time of the creation of this thread. Nations returning from CTE or having joined Anaia after the sign-up thread is posted may enter at the discretion of the elected hosts or the organizers of the tournament. In extreme cases, this requirement may be waived altogether, though it should be seen as a last resort rather than the norm.

Each OOC user is allowed to sign up a maximum of two nations, with one nation being declared to be on "puppet" status. This "puppet" status should be both declared and confirmed by both users. Puppets may be excluded at the hosts' discretion without prior warning, and typically the later a puppet is signed up, the more likely it is to be dropped. Nations intending to enter via a different IC name to their OOC account are requested to indicate this in boldface.

In keeping to the traditions of other Anaian regional tournaments that have been organised thus far, a roster is required to sign up. The reason for this is because cricket, more than any other sport, requires knowledge on the details of both teams for conducive roleplaying. More information on how to create a cricket roster will be provided below.

Rosters

A cricket roster should consist of, at the bare minimum, at least 11 names plus RP permissions. If this is your first cricket competition, I highly recommend at least giving Ko-oren's guide to NS Sports cricket a read-through to grasp the basics of roleplaying cricket, the link to which can be found above. Examples of rosters can be found here — in the thread for the most recently completed GCF ODI trophy. The opening post of this thread also provides excellent tips on how to create a roster. For those unwilling, however, rosters should ideally include:

  • At least 11 players (there is an in-character limit of 15, though going over this number will not be penalised)
  • A style modifier (Whether or not this will be used will be at the discretion of the host)
  • One captain
  • One wicket-keeper
  • Five players who are able to bowl
  • An indication of likely batting order
  • The colour of your kit, which must not be white,
  • And any other information that you deem is relevant.

Thanks to Gruenberg for their in-depth post on how to create a roster.

Style modifiers

Style modifiers are indicative of how attacking or defensive your team is. Unlike other sports, where style modifiers may range from -5 to +5, style mods in cricket range from -1 to +1. Modifiers outside of this range will be assumed to be at the maximum positive or negative value, and if none is provided, a value of 0 is provided. -1 represents a more conservative, defensive style of cricket predicated on preventing the opponent from scoring runs, while +1 represents a more aggressive, attacking style of cricket predicated on outscoring the opponent.

The usage of style mods is wholly at the discretion of the host. The host may also introduce other manners of style modifiers, such as ground modifiers (which make a ground more conducive for batting or bowling, as required) and a random weather modifier (which also affects the rate of batting and bowling).

RP Permissions

A list of basic RP permissions is included below; this is by no means a universal list and you may add to it if necessary, to clarify tactics or otherwise. Adding a RP permissions box to your roster is strongly advised, as this will assist your opponent in roleplaying their match should they roleplay it first. It is strongly advised that you are more lenient in your RP permissions here than in other sports, as, once again, strict permissions make it extremely difficult for your opponent to roleplay about the match.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Godmod match events: Y/N
RP injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players: Y/N
*Godmod how my players were dismissed: Y/N
Create a full scorecard for my team: Y/N
*It is assumed whoever RPs first has the right to select the method of dismissal, but not whether
there were godmod circumstances behind them (e.g. a ball hitting a bird before being caught fairly).

Thanks to Liventia for this RP permissions box.

Host bids

The process of host bidding is currently open. Host bids should adhere closely to the one-day international format, though the only requirement is that the total number of deliveries for each team is close to or exactly 300, as that is the total number of deliveries faced by each team in a real-life ODI match. Host bids should ideally also include the format, method of scorination, and tiebreakers. It is recommended that some form of knowledge in cricket roleplay, either in the form of previous participation in tournaments or an understanding of cricket, is had before you consider bidding.

Misc.

If there are any other questions, please feel free to post them in this thread, or send a telegram to this nation. Or, you know, because it's <current year>, you can ask on Discord.

ODIs nowadays are all about hitting the ground running. Twaddle is - we think - one of the best openers in the Multiverse and a great partner who knows when to retain strike and when to share deliveries. Leaby is his partner as during the ODI WT, a technical hitter with all of the fun unorthodox shots. Both are able to exploit the early powerplay.

The 'position' of batsman was difficult to fill. We don't have batsmen that excel at this format in the same way that we have dominant hitters in Tests and T20Is. ySalw is a very welcome exception: the Mawr broke through two seasons ago as a one day expert, a product of the new calendar in which one days are given more priority. We can't expect a 23-year old to handle all of the pressure, which means Pardey weas called up to stop any potential slides and be a long-term partner through the innings, with ySalw as the ace up our sleeve, knowing that in pure ability to keep the scoreboard ticking, he's better than the other two. Pardey is the creative one of the two, and we expect Twaddle to stick around, with extra options on the bench that we might use in some matches, where we use Langhorne, Firembee, or Penn as batsmen, not openers. ySalw will not (or very rarely) go for unorthodox shots, which is where Firembee and Pardey outdo him.

Meredith is a staple across formats as wicketkeeper, as a big friendly dependable giant. All-rounders are a big thing this lineup, with Barklas and Taylor in good form and deserving of the call-up. Some more inexperienced players on the bench are Renbeck, Gainsburton, and Goodall, who are very similar in production and stats to this point. Renbeck is fast and a little more adventurous, Gainsburton is slightly more creative yet defensive, and Goodall is looking for boundaries.

For bowling, we have Enright, the king of the format with a decent amount of international experience at his young age. Magcay is up for his second selection, a bit more streaky but when he has a good day, he rips through anything. yLellmedd continues the amazing bowling attack, and Courtenay is back for another go. The bowling is far stronger than the hitting this time around, continuing the trend since the first Anaian One Day tournament. Enright is a very technical and accurate bowler with the 'flaw' that he appeals at least once per over and more than that if possible. Magcay can think he has an opening to take a wicket and sometimes misjudges that - but nothing good teammates can't fix, if he listens to them.

With so many right-handers in the ideal starting batting order, there will be a lot of subbing in and out on a match to match basis. Penn to appear alongside Twaddle to open is not out of the question. Chapman as leftie bowler will be common as well. There's no shortage of leadership talent: Meredith assumes this position naturally through age, while ySalw and yLellmedd have displayed qualities at their regions, and Firembee and Pardey have the making of a captain as well.

StrayaRoos/Avorago bid

Postby StrayaRoos » Mon Sep 05, 2022 1:18 am

AODICC II
STRAYAROOS AND AVORAGO

Image

IC Overview

StrayaRoos is a Large nation in South-Western Anaia, with a population of 72.13 Million,it has Several deadly animals, such as Emus,Drop Bears and Sharks being the most common killers.
The Locals are very friendly with Foreigners, outside of Stadiums and competition (hopefully)

Two Venues are planned to be used in StrayaRoos’ Half, the 50,000-Seat Pale Cricket Ground and the 57,500-Seat Coal Coast Stadium, both of which are being renovated prior to the tournament,if the busy schedules of both allow.

Located in the Sea of Ayes halfway between the Ochre Islands and Ko-oren, Avorago isn’t your modern, typical, everyday island. Perhaps it was a millennium ago, but with the advent of technology, it is no more. In Avorago, the most advanced piece of technology the locals have developed on their own is either the rowboat or the treehouse, the latter of which is somehow strong enough to withstand those deadly, bone-jarring subtropical storms that regularly sweep the island in the summer months. The entire population of 1100 lives in these treehouses, but participating cricketers are assured that if they do not wish to live in the trees, spacious housing is provided on the forest floor.

As you might expect, the island of Avorago only has one place available to play cricket - a clearing in the centre of the island, where the vast majority of the inhabitants live around. With fifty-metre boundaries square and ranging between fifty and seventy straight, it’s probably the smallest “professional” ground in Anaia, let alone the multiverse. However, while that advantage favours the batters, that’s about it. While a turf pitch has been dropped into the clearing in preparation for the possibility of co-hosting the AODICC, it’s poorly maintained and as a result, is a bowler’s paradise, with deliveries likely to spin, shoot through, jag off the surface and bounce abnormally. Even so, it’s been cleared to play on.

Hosting Experience

StrayaRoos has hosted The 5th Aussie Rules World Cup and Team Tennis as part of the Festival of Local Anaian Games and Sports.

Avorago, better known as Sylestone, has hosted larger tournaments such as two Cups of Harmony and a Baptism of Fire as well as two EspoT20s. They have also hosted a wide variety of minor tournaments, ranging from handball to lacrosse.

Proposed Formats

  • 6 participants: 2 Groups of 3, double round robin, top 2 in each group progress to semifinals
  • 8 Participants: 2 Groups of 4, double round robin, top 2 in each group progress to semifinals
  • 10 Participants: 2 Groups of 5, single round robin, top 3 in each group progress to the Super 6, followed by Semifinals
  • 12 Participants: 2 Groups of 6, single round robin, top 4 in each group progress to the Super 6, followed by Semifinals
The reason why we have opted for two groups is due to the two nations in the bid proposal.

Tiebreakers

  • Points
  • Net run rate
  • Wins
  • Head-to-head
  • Head-to-head net run rate
  • IC coin flip (OOC: scorinated match)
Technical Details

The games will be scorinated using a modified xkoranate file made by Sylestone, viewable below with a super over scorinated if matches end in a tie. A win will be worth two points, with two points also available for a super over win and one for a super over loss. As usual, losses will not be rewarded in any way.

Similar to as Sylestone is doing in the EspoT20, scores will be modified so RPers have the freedom to choose their wicket counts (unless the team is bowled out) in the case of a wacky xkoranate result we all know and hate. How these will be formatted is shown below.

Team B vs Team A @ Sampleville Stadium, Sampleville, Samplestan
Team B 253 (all out)
Team A 255/? (36.4 overs)
Team A win by X wickets with 80 balls remaining

Team B 253 (48.1 overs)
Team A 255/6 (36.4 overs)
Team A win by four wickets with 80 balls remaining

There will be 48 hours between cutoffs and importantly, there will be no team style mods. Instead, each ground will have a style mod between +-5, with no weather modifiers either. The AODICC tentative ranks will be used, with rosters worth two matchdays’ worth of RP bonus. RP’s will be graded on a scale so that a nation with max RP bonus should have a significant advantage over a RP-less nation with max rank by the conclusion of the group stage.

Avorago Squad for AODCC I

When Anaian sporting authorities indicated their intention to begin a regional one-day cricket tournament following the creation of the CAFA (association football) and ARC (rugby), the small island nation of Avorago in the centre of the Sea of Ayes was once again sent an official participation ticket if they wished to take it up. Before the inaugural CAF, 126 Avoragans played a 28-game season of pigball (modified football), there was much competition to break into the eventual 23-player squad that was taken to Legalese to compete in the inaugural CAFA, where they defied all expectations with their aggressive playstyle, finishing third. However, due to logistical issues, they have not taken place in a further CAFA, much to the dismay of the players. However, in rugby, the physical nature of the sport surprisingly did not attract enough interest, with only a little over a dozen players turning up to the trial, and many of them not being of the required calibre to play without getting absolutely mauled. The same was expected for cricket, being a sport with many, many differences to the likes of Avoragan pigball, but somehow, this proved to not be the case.

Of the 1100 people on the island, 70 of them turned up to the trials held at the clearing a couple of months out from the tournament start date, which were to be played on a hastily-prepared strip of short, dead grass located in the centre of the area - one that appeared to heavily favour the “spin-bowling” technique that was shown in the manual sent to them along with a rulebook and an invite. The players were separated into five teams of fourteen, and over the course of a week, they played a round-robin, while selectors sat and took notes on the effectiveness of each of the players. The final sixteen were then selected, sent off against odds uncounted to face the music in Grande Cucina.

And there, they also finished third, beating Ko-oren in the third place playoff and coming hella close to reaching the final, with only Naomi Salisbury and Sarah Ashe standing in the way as the Plough Islands - now world champions - won by one wicket. With such a dominant performance, it did not take long for captain Eberegbulam Onwuamaeze and his team of staff to elect to send the exact same team to the second AODICC, with each player only a year older.

Openers

Name Age Gender Batting Hand	Bowling Style
Chinwuebo Chinama 25 Male RHB RLS
Otutodilinna Choike 23 Female LHB LFM

Nnenne Chiemezie 29 Female RHB N/A

It would be impossible to choose two opening batters that could further contrast each other. Literally the only two similarities between Chinwuebo Chinama and Otutodilinna Choike are that a) only two years apart in age and b) they both like cricket. That’s literally it. Choike is more of a relaxed, free-flowing batter, willing to take her time early in her innings, while pigball defensive-midfielder Chinwuebo Chinama is far from that. While he has an aesthetic technique from studying this new “video” technology that was sent over within the parcel that contained the invite, he certainly likes to have a bit of a hit while the bowlers are still trying to find their lines and lengths. And it has paid off. In the inaugural AODICC in Grande Cucina, Chinama smashed 373 runs at a whopping strike rate of 116.20 before being noticed by the Dunkirk Rovers in Sylestone’s Crash n’ Smash - one of the multiverse’s top Twenty20 leagues - and travelling to Esportiva. Not only that, but Chinama did enough to reach the team of the tournament, blowing everyone away with his power hitting. Meanwhile, reserve opener Nnenne Chiemezie is a bit more patient, but certainly still likes to play her shots and plays with an odd technique, moving across her stumps to try and suck the bowlers in to attempting to trap her LBW, where she is able to play her favourite shot - a little flick through mid-wicket. In contrast to Chinama and Choike, Chiemezie has no intention of being a bowler - even part-time - while Chinama’s leg-spinners can get a bit of turn despite being rather unpredictable and Choike can bowl useful overs as a medium-pacer if the situation requires it. In fact, last year in Grande Cucina, she picked up five wickets at 39 while only conceding a little over five an over - excellent figures for someone whose main job comes with the willow in hand.

Batters

Name Age Gender Batting Hand	Bowling Style
Anenechukwu Daniel 26 Female LHB N/A
(+) Coobine Muljohn 26 Male RHB N/A
Uzodimma Nebeolisa 22 Female RHB LM
Mbanefo Muomelu 32 Male LHB LOS

Chidubem Chidimma 21 Female RHB RM
(+) Zenzem Mehari 31 Female LHB N/A

It was theorised before the first AODICC that no one outside of Avorago’s top five would be able to make a match-winning knock on a regular basis. This was not true. Multiple times did Uzodimma Nebeolisa and Mbanefo Muolemu shine, both averaging just under seventy and scoring nearly 500 runs between them. Most importantly, these knocks came from positions 5-7 in the batting order and provided the Avoragans with some much-needed lower-order support when things did not work out well at the top.

Which, sometimes, they did not. While Anenechukwu Daniel had a blistering tournament, scoring 463 runs, the rest of the top- and middle-order somewhat struggled. Eberegbulam Onwuamaeze, the captain and number one all-rounder, only managed 301 runs at 33 - respectable figures - but nothing special. But it was Coobine Muljohn, who batted at number five for most of the tournament, who really failed to shine. While his wicketkeeping was tidy, averaging beneath twenty from eight innings was not quite the return he would’ve been hoping for but is likely to receive another chance this year, with Zenzem Mehari not really doing anything special in her only match. Chidubem Chidimma’s failures last year saw him get dropped in just two matches but at only 21 years of age, he is expected to play a big role as Avorago continues to improve.

All-rounders

Name Age Gender Batting Hand	Bowling Style
(c) Eberegbulam Onwuamaeze 27 Male RHB ROS

Nnenne Anayolisa 26 Female RHB RF
Dike Kennenna 25 Male RHB LOS

Like last time, Eberegbulam Onwuamaeze will captain this Avorago side, leading from the front with his shrewd tactics that paid off so well last year in Grande Cucina. While he will be slightly disappointed with his personal returns, his calm batting and accurate off-spinners were integral to a wildly successful tournament for this upstart Avoragan team. Like last time, though, he still needs to improve on turning those 30s and 40s into big scores as well as working on his variations to disguise them more. Meanwhile, Nnenne Anayolisa impressed in her only match in AODICC I and while Dike Kennenna didn’t get a game, his left-arm off-spin may come in handy on turning pitches.

Bowlers

Name Age Gender Batting Hand	Bowling Style
Chiazagomekpere Udegbunam 34 Male RHB ROS
Chiwetalu Okwuoma 21 Male LHB LF
Maduabuchim Chinomso 31 Male RHB RFM
Rapuluolisa Chialuka 25 Male RHB RLS

Ogbenyeanu Ubanwa 36 Female LHB LLS
Abazu Nnonso 35 Male RHB RF

Now onto the bowling, almost unarguably Avorago’s strength - something that was backed up last edition. Leading the attack will be the extreme pace of Chiwetalu Okwuoma, who regularly had batters jumping in Grande Cucina due to the sheer pace on his deliveries, while Maduabuchim Chinomso is expected to join him with the new ball despite his poor performances last time around. However, if he fails to perform once again, Onwuamaeze will happily take over new ball duties, as will Abazu Nnonso - a player who bowls more on the erratic side. After that, though, come the deadly pair that are unarguably Avorago’s strength. Chiazagomekpere Udegbunam is tough enough to face, the 34-year-old spinning the ball miles with guile and accuracy, but Rapuluolisa Chialuka can be even tougher. Alongside Onwuamaeze, Avorago’s trio of spinners has got to be one of the best in Anaia - that much is almost undoubtable. And if they can perform, then who knows how far the island in the Sea of Ayes can go.

Squad for II AODCC
(style mod: +1.0)

2. Howard TATTON (HM Tatton)
Batsman : Right-handed
Age: 28
State: Beck SCC/Admirals

With soft hands and an eagerness to score runs, Tatton is an artisan at the crease. Unlikely to bloot the leather for six, but his ability to exploit gaps for boundaries makes him a dangerous opponent.

26. André-François MEUNIER (AF Meunier)
Batsman : Right-handed
Age: 27
State Team: Monthuez SCC/Mountaineers

Meunier is the first player from the large Francophone community that makes up the majority of the mountainous Monteste region to play internationally for the Stars in any format of the game. He may only be here due to injuries suffered by Andrew Taylor and Shelton Schneller, but is determined to stake his claim for a long-term place. Meunier's ability to get weight behind the ball with regularity will help there; expect flat sixes and opposing fielders making acrobatic stops.

12. Edward FENN (EL Fenn)
Batsman : Right-handed
Age: 23
State: West Mercia SCC/Sabres

The golden boy of Krytenian cricket, Ed Fenn loves the game. He's a supreme technician, preferring placement and accuracy to pure arm strength, looking to punish any gaps in the field. Also a top-notch fielder.

24. Damon STENSON (DN Stenson)
Batsman : Left-handed
Age: 24
State: Quinneth SCC/Wolves

With his mix of swing power and shot selection, Stenson is a dangerous opponent for bowlers, and will happily crunch pace bowling in any and all directions. Can be foxed by a bowler who can get a bit of swing or turn in the ball, though; fielders be on guard for that fine edge to snag him.

13. Diego AQUINO (DAR Aquino)
Batsman : Left-handed
Age: 25
State Team: Avide-Dioro SCC/Rivermen

Dreamed of a baseball career as a youngster, before switching to cricket thanks to Krytenia's lack of infrastructure in his preferred sport. His shot selection is somewhat rudimentary, but he makes up for this with excellent timing.

14. Wesley KOSTA (WS Kosta)
Wicket-keeper : Right-handed
Age: 30
State: Emberton SCC/Lions

Reliable behind the stumps - though Bradley Grafton has the drop on him in that regard - Kosta is the better batsman of the two, hence his selection ahead of his more unpredictable rival.

7. Lynton SAXON (LR Saxon)
CAPTAIN
All-rounder : Rght-handed : Right arm pace
Age: 33
State Team: Emberton SCC/Lions

Has a cricketing brain to be feared; sometimes gives off an air of being "surrounded by idiots" when field placements don't work the way he intends. Saxon's batting style leans towards keeping the ball low, looking to make the fielders work to prevent the four. With the ball, Saxon leans towards inviting the edge, tending to bowl a little short of length.

15. Gavin UDALL (GM Udall)
All-rounder : Right-handed : Right arm pace
Age: 30
State Team: Overa SCC/Warriors

An aggressive talent with either bat or ball in hand, Udall is sure to create excitement of some description, whether that be bowling 90mph artillery shells down the track, crunching a misplaced delivery into the stands, or losing his wicket in ridiculous fashion.

23. Mason BOND (MFP Bond)
Bowler : Left-handed : Left arm pace
Age: 23
State Team: East Mercia SCC/Red Caps

Six foot four and built like a birch tree, Bond loves to steam in and drop exocets on opposing batters. Likely to create an imposing pace assault in the early overs with Udall. Doesn't quite have Udall's raw power with the bat, but has enough about him to pick up a few useful runs.

16. Odell LOVATOVIC (OP Lovatovic)
Bowler : Right-handed : Right arm swing
Age: 24
State Team: Newland SCC/Bears

Lovatovic loves nothing more than a cloudy day and a white ball in his hand. Excels at getting the ball to move both ways. Batting isn't his strong suit, but then again that's not why he's in the team.

10. Brigham HILL (BY Hill)
Bowler : Left-handed : Wrist (leg) spin
Age: 26
State Team : Atrebla SCC/Cowboys

Potentially GCF's best Mormon. Hill is an absolute spin demon, foxing some of the world's best in every form of the game. Unfortunately, he can't bat for toffee.

Reserves:
27. Adam MONK (AW Monk) - Batsman : Left-handed - 24 - Zente SCC/Silver Stars
6. Bradley GRAFTON (BH Grafton) - Wicket-keeper : Left-handed - 32 - Yardley SCC/Lumberjacks
25. Mark FRIEDRICHS (MG Friedrichs) - All-rounder : Left-handed : Left arm swing - 25 - Aigea SCC/Cormorants
11. William DE TONG (WJ de Tong) - Bowler : Right-handed : Finger (off) spin - 26 - Aigea SCC/Cormorants
28. Harvey KINDER (HC Kinder) - Bowler : Right-handed : Right arm pace - 23 - Abbia Mersa SCC/Crusaders

BACKGROUND & PLAYERS

Image
First flown on independence from 210 years of British rule in 1960, the flag of the Plough Islands consists of a triband of green and amber charged on the central stripe with the national coat of arms.

There is a lot written about the Plough Islands that resorts to the so-called "first world" tropes about life under socialism, reducing the achievements of the communist society built by these hundred and forty thousand souls to a lazy assumption that a Marxist-Leninist state in a few rocky islets must exist in a constant grey, hungry misery. Ask any Plough Islander though, and they will likely tell you, slowly, and precisely, with an almost musical cadence, another, far different story. Their story is one of a people that experienced their own hardship and ignorance under British colonial mismanagement and embraced a more fundamental, human idea of what was important, and grew to love the path they had chosen.
Yes, for example, other countries have their democratic traditions, but sooner or later those were exploited to co-opt society away from what was fairest for everyone, forcing the masses into an unnatural conflict to sneak some subversion of their interests past while nobody was looking. If they lived somewhere else they would have more choice of what to eat and drink, and how to be merry, but a choice between the unhealthy, the unsustainable, and the unaffordable is surely no choice at all. And while other places in Anaia enjoy warmer summers and picture-perfect beaches, they surely do not have a climate that allows cricket to be played virtually year-round, and the Plough Islands Cricket Association would be very disappointed with that. After all, the national team have been doing so well lately.
The "Foxes" take their popular nickname from a term used to describe Plough Islanders almost since the start of British settlement; according to legend, a pair of red foxes from a Cornish estate stowed away on board one of the ships in Captain Sutton's fleet before it set off for the islands, and their offspring proceeded to thrive on the native flora and fauna of the archipelago. While the story may be largely invented, the metaphor of flourishing in an initially hostile environment fits the sport of cricket like a glove, developing through the colonial period and becoming as inseparable from Plough Islander identity as those questions and that accent. And Kevin Laing's team have most certainly been thriving, following up their win in the inaugural Anaian One-Day Cricket Competition with victory in the third Global Cricket Federation World Trophy, beating old friends and tournament hosts Ko-oren by three wickets in Greencaster.
The Association was, however, taken rather by surprise by the Anaian Board of Cricket's announcement of the second O.D.C.C., and consequently there is something of an unfamiliar look to some of the Plough Islander team for this competition. They have been unable to call on the services of all the players who won the World Trophy; all-rounder Jannie Hendricks is still recovering from a fractured wrist sustained in Ko-oren, while outside commitments deprive the Foxes of the likes of Andrew Fairfield and Ilya Lebed. However, wicketkeeper-batter Leanne Martin is available after being forced to miss the World Trophy following piracy-induced injury, and head coach Lourens Hendricks has recalled New Hibernian all-rounder Peter Hodgeson and Redcliff left-arm pace bowler Aubrey Wood to bolster the team. Wood, who has played one Test for the Plough Islands against Krytenia in 2021, is one of two members of the squad with no full limited overs caps; the other is Sutton & Avalon batter Catherine Nasrullin, who scored three half-centuries during the World 20-over championships in 2019 and more recently came to the selectors' attention with a series of strong performances in the Sutcliffe Shield, the national fifty-over List A tournament, during the second half of the season.

COLOURS & EQUIPMENT

Image
The 2022 playing kits of the Plough Islands Cricket Association, made by the Red Flag state textile co-operative; the white Test kit, on the far left, will not be used during the tournament, but the coloured kits - in green as first choice, and in red and the colours of the Anaian flag as alternates - will be.

The Plough Islands will continue to wear the playing kits revealed by the Association in advance of the third World Trophy, with the green and amber of the national flag being first choice in keeping with tradition. The alternate Anaian kit, which has proven popular among players since it was first worn in the World Trophy final, will likely be needed against at least the Ko-orenites, while the second alternate set in red may stay in the Foxes' suitcase unless Gortolekua sign up, and arrive in an even more stylish outfit than they did in Grande Cucina.
The crest worn on the kits remains the same; the shield from the coat of arms of the Association has not gained any additional stars or accoutrements. Despite the Plough Islands' newfound place atop multiversal cricket, with the Marxist-Leninist sensibilities of the collective islander psyche seeing those titles as foundations to be built upon rather than spires to be held aloft.
