When I was about 24, way back in 2010, I made Indian-flavoured burritos, mixed some Indian spices with the Mexican seasoning and added some traditionally Indian ingredients like aubergine and radishes into it.
I was making burritos - vegetarian ones as normal, when I decided to add some more things into it to make it slightly spicier.
It was interesting to find this recipe.
I didn't know I'd made a sort of roti from my experimentation, back then I'd not heard much of Indian-Mexican cuisine (India as in the country, not Native American). But the recipe tasted damn good, perhaps too over-spiced though!
A few years ago, I'd bought croissants in bulk (well, 4 packets worth) from the supermarket, cut them into smaller size, then covered them in either cooking chocolate or dark chocolate, then rolled them in hazelnuts or walnut, then covered the walnut/hazelnuts and chocolate with either powdered sugar or melted (vegan) marshmallows. I'm vegetarian, so bought these for it. Expensive for 2014 prices, but was worth it at Christmas. They're still expensive now.
At the time, I didn't want to just use them for breakfast or as snack food, so that was the way to go... not bad for a small family Christmas party snack food. Better than them just going off. It was a "use up what you've got", apart from the marshmallows, in this one.
Croissants were another thing I made for a bread-and-butter pudding, having bought some at Marks & Spencer, but this was a croissant bread-and-butter pudding with liquorice, blackcurrants (from my garden, washed!), raspberries and a bit of strawberry. An odd combo, but it somehow... seemed to work.
Anyone else got any more stories of recipes they tried which may seem odd, but seemed to work?
