The Eagle's Club is proud to present Eagles Cup, a modern era re-incarnation of the historic Eagle's Cup. 16+ esteemed nations from throughout the multiverse will compete over 9 Matchdays to lift the Eagle's Cup and earn their place in the Eagle's Club, securing their place as a competitor and potential host in future Eagle's Cups.

Format :: The 16* nations will be split into two 8-team sub-competitions. Each competition will have two groups where 4 teams will play each other nation twice*, once at a stadium of their choosing and once at a stadium of their opponents choosing. The first sub-competition is the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy which traces direct lineage to the original Eagle's Cup including the representatives from the Eagle's Club and At-Large entrants. The second sub-competition is strictly invite only, tracing a direct lineage to the Cup of Champions and representing only WCC Sanctioned, Major Event & Select Confederation Champions. From there, the top 2 nations in each group table will advance to the Semi-Final round of each half to be held at an official Eagle's Club location. The winners of these matches will receive a special trophy from the Eagle's Club that also grants the nations honorary status with the Eagle's Club for one competition cycle and advance to the Final of their half. The winners of the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy and Cup of Champions will advance to the Eagle's Cup Championship match presented by Cocoa-bo where the winner will be crowned overall champion and granted permanent entry into the Eagle's Club. A third place playoff will also be contested back at the Eagle's Club where medals for the Top Three finishers in the overall will be awarded.

Venues:
Eagles Club, Select and Champions Group stage matches are standard 4-team group stages with Home & Away fixtures. *Regional Groups will see two consecutive 4-team single round robin groups with seeds based on final position in the most recent Cup of Champions Confederations Group phase.
Knockout Round Matches shall be played at an official Eagle's Club location with preference to the Eagle's Club facility of the highest Seed unless no suitable Venue is available
The Final for the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy shall be contested at TBD
The Final for the Cup of Champions shall be contested at the TBD
The Final match of the competition shall be the Eagle's Cup Bronze Medal match to be contested at The Eagles Club where all medals will be awarded in a final ceremony.

Transportation support for teams competing in the Eagle's Cup is available through the multinational Logistics and Holdings Company CoCoCo. Cocoa-bo, a primary holding of CoCoCo which heavily leverages the CoCoCo Logistics infrastructure has been signed as the presenting sponsor of the tournament and will have traveling Cocoa-bo booths at all tournament venues.

Eligible Participants :: The bylaws of the Eagle's Club denote guaranteed entry for up to 8 Nations into the Eagle's Cup as follows:

Eagle's Club Members - Minimum 4 entrants into the Eagle's Cup via the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy
Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalist - Maximum 3 Entrants into the Eagle's Cup via the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy
Non-Member Applicant - Minimum 1 Entrant into the Eagle's Cup via the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy

Should the Eagle's Club contain fewer than 4 active member nations then the Eagle's Club allocation to the Cup shall be reduced accordingly. The Eagle's Club shall fill these slots with Non-Member nations by means of Selection, Invitation or Application as necessary to fill the field.

Should the previous cycles Eagle's Cup semi-finalists include Eagle's Club members, or, should any of the previous cycles Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalists fail to send a delegation to the Eagle's Cup, the Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalist's allocation to the Cup shall be reduced accordingly. The Eagle's Club shall fill these slots with Non-Member nations by means of Selection, Invitation or Application as necessary to fill the field.

Per established precedent, entry for at least 4 Nations each into the Champions and Confederations Groups may be earned earned via triumph in recently contested World Cup Committee, Major Recognized Competition including the Cup of Champions and Regionally sanctioned Championships with replacement nations to be selected at the discretion of the Eagle's Club Committee.

Eagle's Club :: The eligibility of Eagle's Club members Eauz, Kingsford, Cosumar and Tequilo are currently in an inactive status. As the once independent nation of Bedistan is now part of the Unified Capitalizt States, the Eagle's Club membership and reserved place in the Eagle's Cup is extended to the Unified Capitalizt States. Temporary Eagle's Club status may also be granted to select non-champion nations based on their final position in the previous Eagle's Cup competition.

Applicant :: At least 1 Additional slot(s) in the Eagle's Cup is available to a nation selected by the Eagle's Club who has submitted an application to the Eagles Club. Additional slots may be made available to non-member applicants if selected delegations are unable to participate. As Invitations are sent out, and delegations formed, all participants will be informed.

THE TUMBRAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
The Black Eagles

IMPORTANT OOC NOTE: For all intents and purposes, this Tumbra that began contesting in WCQ87 is an entirely new nation. They have no recollection of their earlier exploits from WC70-80, because that simply didn't exist for this Tumbra. Any and all similarities to the nation of the similar name can and should be construed as glitches in the Multiverse. You may, however, make muted references to "having done this before" or something. For a detailed explanation of how this came to be, read these RPs.

The Tumbran National Football Team is Tumbra's main representative in all association football competitions for national associations. Making its debut at the 87th World Cup Qualifiers, the team currently ranks 4th in the world. The team is controlled by the Tumbran Football Federation, which is also the governing body of football in Tumbra. Also known as the Black Eagles, or affectionately the Eagles, the team competes in the World Cup and its related competitions. The team also participates in the Campionato Esportiva, also sends teams to the Di Bradini Cup for Under-21s, and the Under-18 World Cup. The team have won the 51st edition of the former tournament and the 13th edition of the latter tournament; which has led to a keen emphasis on bleeding youth into the national team set-up early. With a loyal travelling contingent of supporters known as the Black Army, the Tumbran national team's support will be on display throughout this tournament, with lots of tifos and loud cheers expected throughout matches.

The reigning champions of the Eagles' Cup — having won the competition on the second attempt — return. With permanent membership of the Eagles' Club assured, the focus of the team sent to this (and future) Eagles' Cup is development. Twenty-four players, deemed to have potential futures on the national team, have been called up to see how they perform in black; alongside two stalwarts of the national team, who are gently being eased into leadership roles.

The Manager

Yuan, 61, managed the Yuezhou Dragons in their debut cycle in the World Cup, finishing a miraculous third as a ninth seed, beating countries like Northwest Kalactin and Eraman — before bringing Yuezhou to the quarterfinals of the Copa Rushmori 36. A difficult start to the World Cup 87 cycle saw him lose his job, however. Slated to take on the job at AC Valanari, visa issues meant he was never able to take on the job — and was a free agent until the approach from the national team to replace the recently-departed Marco Hemmings. Prior to his foray in international football, he also served as a coach for WNS Nangang. Since joining the Tumbran national football team, he has brought it to great success; qualifying for the World Cup in all three cycles cycles he's been with the country now, reaching the semi-finals in the latest occasion; and a regional title, to boot.

Touted as a defensive manager, Yuan chose to set the Dragons up with five defenders during his time with them; but has already indicated his preference for playing with four at the back in Tumbra. Utilising an aggressive midfield press, the Black Eagles fall into a 5-4-1 in defence, with the defensive midfielder dropping back to provide an extra man in defence. With the ball, it's fast, one-touch counterattacking; constant running is the name of the game here.

Kit

Home-Away-Third

New kits are unveiled for the next 2 cycles of international football. Whilst some will complain there is little change to the old kits, the old saying “if it aint broke, don’t fix it” is suggested by others. The now iconic double V on a yellow shirt is updated with a faded pattern, with a reverse on the black shorts, and black socks. The away kit is a simple reversal of the main colours, and provides a mix and match combinations for partial clashes. The third kit is in purple and gold, a nod to both Anaia, and the CAFA Cup 4 won by Flavovespia

Manager – Augusto Rinaldi Age: 59 (Savigliane)

Quite possibly one of the most important figures in Flavovespian football history, and maybe one of the most liked people in all of Flavovespia. Augusto Rinaldi may not be a Flavovespian national, but the manager from Savigliane holds a special place in the hearts of all Flavovespian football fans after taking the side to their first ever World Cup and a CAFA Cup 4 title. A great man manager, his direct 4-3-3 may not be the most elegant football, but he’s turned Flavovespia into a formidable footballing nation.

Aarif Muhammad in the last few years has gone from a goalkeeper who some questioned if he could reach his potential, to an integral part of the national team. So many key performances recently have been started with a solid backline, of which he plays a big part. An all-around goalkeeper, it’s hard to pick out a major weakness of his, as he seemingly reaches his peak years. Behind him in the line up are Thomas Foley and Nathan Crewe, both with a solitary cap in games with little at stake. Thomas Foley is a pure shot stopper, one of Flavovespia’s finest, but has never been a great goalkeeper. Nathan Crewe is the opposite, a dynamic goalkeeper with an eye to quickly moving the ball forward, but sometimes lacking in the fundamentals. Both come from the golden goalkeeper generation, displacing the enigmatic Lucky Diamond from the squad.

After the performances of Aarif Muhammad at the World Cup Qualifiers 91, his position in goal seems in little doubt now. Whilst he did concede 5 to The Holy Empire in the World Cup, his performances in almost every game were more than up to scratch. He’s kicked out an inconsistent streak and looks in fine form, with good all-around performances. Thomas Foley is in the eyes of many now the #2 goalkeeper for Flavovespia. Not capped yet, he’s shown great form in the Super League, and is a great shot-stopper, even if his distribution leaves a little to be desired. Lucky Diamond remains in the squad. His play style is the opposite to Foley, even if he’s not the most pure shot stopper, but will be able to play with the ball at his feet. However at 31, and with Flavovespia’s golden goalkeeper generation coming up to age, soon the eccentric goalkeeper could see his international career reach a swansong.

The experience of Tony Gardner in defence will be sorely missed as the centre back with over a double century of caps is no longer in the squad. However as time moves on, others will look to step in and fill his boots. Full back David Lyons is certainly helping though, with his successful time as captain now, combined with a very enthusiastic and positive attitude. Stuart Cookson, Paul Taylor and Andrew Dance will be the initial starting defenders, with David Blythe providing a lot of rotational experience, and Daniel Lansdell and Kishan Rees also in a similar role. A debutant is in the defensive ranks. Malcolm Beresford has made a name for himself at Bavingtor, and the tall and strong centre back is now in the national team for the first time. A gritty, determined old-school centre back, he may not be a beauty on the ball, but will always be hassling and fighting any strikers in his path.

It’s no surprise that the 8 midfielders from the CAFA Cup 4 winning side return, and joining them is debutant Michael Hornby. The star of the midfield will be the new #11, Jonathan Bagshaw. Few could take the number that Steven Hall used to wear, but Bagshaw may already be one of the most recognisable Flavovespian footballers, and quite possibly the finest in at least a generation. The midfield trio is likely to see David Clark provide a lot of experience with his many years at this level, alongside Kieron Player and David Wassell. Robert Totten provides the option for a more advanced central midfielder in terms of attacking play. Jonathan Goldstone is a fleet-footed ball playing midfielder. Amrik Singh, Andrew Thomas and now Michael Hornby are all midfielders who can drop into the wings of an attacking front 3, with good pace and a decent eye for goals or assists.

Only 3 out and out forwards in this squad, a combination of the 4-3-3 formation and domestic performances leaving the 4th spot to go to a midfielder. Michael Cole will continue on as the left winger in the attacking trio, with his great pace, ability to cut inside and shoot serving him well. Adrian Jones is a strong, tall forward, which helps him in aerial battles and to bring in his team mates. However his shooting abilities and movement on the ball can’t be underestimated. Scott Coleman may be the last of the original Flavovespians still in the squad, but the 34 year old is still as accurate as ever when he can shoot or head towards goal, even if pace and agility aren’t what they were. His experience even just in the squad could be a real useful asset.

Tactics

Flavovespia play a direct 4-3-3 formation. The defence are tasked with keeping a steady back line, not often pressing high, although full backs do sometimes adventure forward with the ball. In midfield, 2 of the 3 will often be the ones closing down and trying to win the ball back, whilst the other acts as a more freely moving creative player. Up front, the 2 wide forwards must be able to shoot or cross with good decision making, whilst the centre forward plays as a false nine. Occasionally other formations and tactics can be deployed if the game situation requires it, although this is something of a rarity.

A Nephar has won the World Cup! But the Cormorants still aren't back yet. An uptick in form, to be fair, but it's inching closer to a decade since Nephara's been at a quarterfinal. But there's a serious degree of belief in Elaine Koeller, and an emerging group of gifted youth that are leading to hope of a re-resurgence in the future. Realistically, Nephara have nothing to prove to anyone but themselves... but they always have something to prove to themselves.

Tactics

Nepharan football is based around playing hard, pressing aggressively, playing for keeps. Occasionally this leaves gaps behind the high defensive line, though most Nepharan goalkeepers are in the sweeping mould these days to compensate. Marchers are, by and large, a physically imposing folk, and eager to throw their size around. The footballing culture is intensely competitive, and those that survive to make their way to the top are hellbent on winning at any cost. Elbows to the face. Subtle digs in the ribs. Diving is dishonest when opponents do it but streetwise when Nepharim do it. In short, Nephara are the bully from two years above who picked you, specifically, out as a natural target.

That is often the foreign perspective, but it overlooks a key fact; Nepharan football can honestly be beautiful to watch. Generations of players brought up on dry plains or asphalt play the ball quickly and fearlessly along the ground, never sideways when there's a forward option open, always looking to stretch and probe and stay one really good pass away from a goal. Nepharim are undoubtedly physical, even cynical, but their success has been built off the backs of ruthless, fast-paced passing football.

The Godhead
For home matches, and during international tournaments, Nephara wheels out the 'Godhead', a giant boulder with an eerie resemblance to Gethin Ramsey, first manager of the Cormorants in the modern era and by now long dead. Nepharim have a superstitious streak, and while nobody's saying it is, in fact, the mystic reincarnation of their most iconic leader, nobody's quite not saying it, either. The Godhead is traditionally 'walked' to the stadium by Nepharan ultras using an intricate series of ropes, and often a flare is wedged into its 'mouth' to simulate a smoking cigar.

A goalkeeper in her playing days, she favours a high-tempo, aggressive pressing style that has achieved results at every club she's been at, and is convinced that she can drill it into the national team, given enough overtime on the training grounds. She has no time for disseidence and aims to create a tight-knit, resilient team culture. Remaining in situ from Ramsey's tenure, Scylla Vyntra is a former World Champion, and an experienced assistant manager with designs on a top job, somewhere. Why not here?

Brewer, Loeher and to a lesser extent Sebold are some of the most promising players in the country, while Tasha Sauber, a former wunderkind herself, has received something of a lease of life in Eura, and deserves another chance. It's hard to remember, sometimes, that she's still so young.

After spending 3 seasons being trained in Crosaibi at Marine Coast United, Edgeli made the switch down the coast to the Lonngeylin Coliseum for Season 43. While Strike were unable to win any silverware, Edgeli fit straight into the squad as one of the top performing defenders in the entire league earning instant plaudits and recognition back in Turori. Edgeli would be an ever-present in the Turorian squad earning the role of captain as the team advanced to the World Cup Semi Finals for the first time in the nations history at World Cup 81 in the Free Republics and Banija. After a long absence from regional competition, Edgeli, retired from the Turori National Team, would captain the Vilita and Turori National Team during the 60th AOCAF Competition.

After working with the Vilita & Turori National Team for two campaigns including the Olympic Games, Edgeli took on the role of head coach for the Turori National Team during the Eagle’s Cup XIX Competition and after leading the team to a Bronze Medal in the first attempt, returned to coach the team again during Eagle's Cup X. While Edgeli's Eel's came up just short again, earning their second consecutive Bronze Medal, the performance was enough to convince the Football Association of Turori that Edgeli was their coach of the future; relieving long time coach Klailall Tuirma of the Head Coaching duties by promoting Tuirma to the role as Competition Director of the Football Association of Turori while assigning Edgeli to the role of Turori National Team Manager for the World Cup 88 Cycle. In their first cycle as Head Coach of the Turori National Team, Tarek Edgeli led the Eels to their first World Cup Title.

Instead of staying local, Derizi opted to take their talents to Eura joining Revolutionaries as they look to take their career to the next level overseas. Amatopa’s first internationstatal tournament came with the Vilitan Union at the XIV Olympic Games and the youngster would earn a Gold Medal despite not appearing in any of the matches. It was a different situation during the 50th Di Bradini Cup when Amatopa started in three of Vilita & Turori’s 7 matches in route to the championship. Amatopa would also start the majority of matches for the Turori National Team during Eagle’s Cup X where Turori earned the Bronze Medal. On a Domestic level, Amatopa took over as starting goalkeeper for Revolutionaries at the age of 18 and earned Goalkeeper of the Season Honors during EuraLeague 45 after leading Revolutionaries to the Euraleague Title. Amatopa became a World Cup Champion when Turori defeated The Holy Empire to win World Cup 88. With the close of their career in sight, An'maude would pull one final trick out of their hat. There were some ups and downs as Giaoka experienced relegation followed by the joy of being promoted as Declasse Champions. Aikiki’s partnership with Mungwaii helped boost Strike back to the top of the Vilitan League earning trophies in the Tropical Trophy, Vilitan Cup and ultimately the Vilitan Stellar Division. Mungwaii barely played a full season in Seraii, however, as the Turori National Team strikers potentially was quickly noticed and Jungle Strike FC came calling making Mungwaii the highest transfer in Eastal Lunar history as well. In 15 seasons at Jungle Strike FC, Mungwaii would win the Vilitan Stellar Division Five times, the Vilitan Cup 6 times as well as a pair of Tropical trophies. Mungwaai holds the Strike FC record for most Star-of-Match performances in a single season having been named first star in 12 of Strikes 26 Stellar Division matches during Vilitan League Season 61. Mungwaai is also tied for 5th all time in goals scored for Strike FC along with Friekder Dandaellion. The Turorian is also an Olympic Gold Medalist having been a part of the Vilitan Union Squad at the XI Olympic Games in Aeropag and won the AOCAF 56 Title with Vilita and Turori. After fighting to keep their place in the starting Lineup at Strike FC during Vilitan League Season 62, Mungwaii decided to search for a new challenge and joined Zwangzug side Arlington City, quickly making an impact helping the team to first place and a Taça das Confederações Final victory.

As an inexperienced academy trainee, Makakio served in a substitute role but made a handful of appearances en route to the side winning the Di Bradini Cup title. Makakio made their full debut for the Turori National Team at Eagle’s Cup X, starting the opening match against Zwangzug. Makakio would go on to make 6 appearances in the competition but was unable to secure their first international goal at the time. Makakio would play a part in Turori's World Cup 88 Triumph but once again did not find themselves on the scoresheet. It wasn't until Matchday 4 of the 51st Di Bradini Cup that Makakio finally netted their first career goal, scoring the second of two in a 2-0 Group Stage victory over Island of the Lost. Makakio would finally break through with their first goal for the Turori National Team during the Quarter Finals of Eagles Cup XI scoring the game winner against Banija.

Overview

The Pemecutan national football team (Pemecutan Malay: Tim Nasional Sepakbola Pemecutan) represents Pemecutan in international football competition. From its establishment the team is always comprises of all men players. It is governed by Pemecutan Football Association, the governing body of football in Pemecutan. It has never win any major international competition.

The team compete for the first time internationally at 3rd Melayu Archipelago Cup which was held in Eraman. They ended up finished 4th, defeated by Ziwana in third place final. Their participation in World Cup Cycle started at Baptism of Fire 76 where they ended in the Group Stage. In the 89th World Cup, the team manage to qualified for the first time where they were ended in Round of 16 after being defeated by Squidroidia. In the last edition, Pemecutan National Team success to reached World Cup final for the first. They were defeated by The Holy Empire by 1-2.

In regional level, the team have manage to reached Semifinal in 9 concecutive Mandalanusan Cup (formerly Melayu Archipelago Cup). From that, their best performance was during the 6th, 7th and the latest 11th edition where they manage to finished as runner-up, defeated by Sharktail, Southern Palm Islands and Tecoia respectively. Their often surprised defeats from lower ranked or newcomer nations in the region makes them dubbed with Pemecutan Cursed.

Kits

In their first international appearance, the team using black as the kit based color. This jersey was made by a local apparel company, Gringsing. The color use for the kit is inspired by Tridatu color, which is the national color of Pemecutan. It is believe that the color can give luck and protection for the user. After being stuck as semifinalist in regional competition, they decided to change the kit as a refreshment.

Agung&Arya Fashion was contacted by PFA officials to design the new kit for the national team. It is a huge challenge for the fashion house as they are never involve in sportswear before. The design they come up with is a simple black-white vertical stripes with white as the background color. They are also introducing the second jersey which use red as the basic color in also another stripes design. The third design that they made are for the goalkeeper. This time they use the combination of red and black.

And now, they're introduce another kits for the upcoming World Cup competition. UD. Sidartha is the one who design their new kits. The inspiration is the batik pattern of Pemecutanian local fabrics. Although the pattern use is not a literal pattern but have been change and modernized. The color choice is still the same, their national Tridatu colors. The home jersey use a white based color. The away jersey use a red based color. While the goalkeeper use a combination of black and red

Home Stadium

Pemecutan usually play their home matches at Tegeh Kori National Stadium located within the Tegeh Kori Sports Complex, Tegeh Kori District, Pemecutan Puri. The stadium is named after the first native kingdom that rise from the occupation of Sripala Kingdom. It is multi purpose stadium with a seating capacity of 45,000 spectators. The final of 7th Melayu Archipelago Cup was held in this stadium. While during the I Games of the Melayu Olympiad, the stadium was use to hold the Archery event.

Nickname--since the end of the 1960's the National Team has been known as "The Bees", a period when the team's uniforms consisted of alternating black and gold hoops.
Previous to that time and subsequently through periods in the 1980's and 90's, the team was usually referred to by the county's national animal, the Elks; the women's National Team were always 'Lady Elks' until the advent of mixed gender play, which was revived during the Jenna Raven Cup and there are still numerous mentions of Elks in the supporters song “We are the Gold & Black”, which currently has close to 175 stanzas.

Following a pair of group stage exits sandwiching their co-hosting of World Cup 90, the BPNT has seen their KPB ranking fall to 20th, so finding the correct balance within the player pool for the upcoming Qualifying for World Cup 92 is the objective of Manager Jen Prescott's immediate program.

The Bees will work their way up the ladder in the Eagles Select Group, facing #15 Zwangzug led by Kate DiMarini, then #10 Nephara before facing #1 Turori on the third and sixth days of EC action.

General Information

Once a humble team comprised of human footballers, this team is one of the few to have failed in its attempt to not win the World Cup. Indeed, this failure is only second to the real failure, never winning the multiverse's two most prestigious tournaments: the Cup of Harmony and the Eagle's Club Trophy Club Thing. Anyways after some scientific mumbo jumbo that no one really cares about to justify our disappearance from the World Cup, our kindly, most benevolent, yet mysterious five dimensional leader The Computator, four beings that share a single voice, unfroze the nation and put it back on track in terms of existing in our consciousness. Why did The Computator decide to unfreeze the nation? To learn and understand the game of football which is surely a closed, deterministic system. To test this theory, chaos is now the aim of the game for the Elecrumite national football team, with the introduction of extra-dimensional players thanks to The Computator. This strategy has finally worked with the return of Electrum to the final stages in World Cup 89, where they were the only nation to beat eventual World Cup winners Ko-oren. It really makes you think how they could not follow that up by qualifying for World Cup 90 but that's neither here nor there, anyways we've decided to not work too hard in qualifying for the World Cup and instead focus on this competition instead.

The Electrumite team is still shaking off the effect of the chrons so all of our team is nearly one year older compared to the previous World Cup. We are like elephants with long memories, long trunks and seemingly taking forever to age.

After a sabbatical in the Savigliano countryside, Arnaudo parlayed a title winning season at Stade-Ferre in Savigliane to a four-year stint at the Chromatik club Felswyr. But the club suffered poor results in its last season, Arnaudo took the job managing the New Gelderlish women's team, initially envisioned for just the Olympics. But after Arnaudo led the team to a surprising and unprecedented gold medal, beating heavy favourites Eura in the final, the New Gelderlish Football Federation will now play in the World Cup qualifiers and perhaps beyond (but not too far beyond). Arnaudo will have the unenviable task of not having the team totally collapse against the high caliber of opposition like it did in the Eagles' Cup.

For purposes of scorination, New Gelderland will use a -2 style modifier.

National Stadium

Lexington is the capital of New Gelderland and home to around 2 million people. While it does function as the capital, it also serves as a banking hub and a transportation hub, with links to Electrum. Lexington's nightlife and food options will also wow visitors at night, and in the daytime, spectators can visit any of Lexington's spectacular parkland. Lexington was founded when a group of Electrumite settlers migrated into New Gelderland looking for farming opportunities, and Lexington, situated at the confluence of the Rogue and Great Rushmori Rivers, was a perfect place to sell produce and set up markets. The stadium itself usually hosts Terranean League side Lexington Victory for its home games and sometimes hosts the New Gelderlish national team. It served as a host stadium for football at the Olympics and seats 47,500.

Olympic Stadium

While not the political capital of New Gelderland, Nassau Bay is most definitely the country's economic, cultural, and sporting capital. Most of the country's premier institutions call this vibrant and cosmopolitan city of four million their home, including the country's main stock exchange, most of New Gelderland's major financial companies, and many premier cultural institutions, such as the ballet company, symphonic orchestra, choir, and theater. Nassau Bay also serves as a culinary hub, drawing on its roots as an agricultural terminus where products would be shipped from the fertile interior to other nations in Rushmore for sale, and is at the forefront of modern cuisine.

The Olympic Stadium in Nassau Bay, New Gelderland's largest city, holds a capacity of 54,000 when supporting football matches. A retractable seating area was used during the Olympics to convert the football pitch into a stadium suitable for athletics events. Olympic closing ceremonies and preliminary football matches were held in the stadium during the Olympics as well. Located in the Westmore Bluff area of Nassau Bay, the stadium's normal tenants are Olympic Nassau Bay. The stadium hosts a majority of New Gelderland's home matches in international sporting events.

Equipped with a youngish team, playing almost entirely domestically within the Afanc Strait Superleague, manager Arnaudo has her work cut out for her against the multiverse's top teams. They've only had one tournament together, and while explicit conflicts have yet to surface, Arnaudo feels that the team's chemistry isn't all that it's cracked up to be. And with no players in the neighboring top leagues of Nephara or Eura, they have little experience playing against the quality opposition that characterizes the Eagle's Cup and the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Georgia Calder will anchor the team's defense alongside left back Zorina Engstrom, playing a mentoring role to the inexperienced Electra Villin-Sallow and Abigail Apollo. In the midfield, captain Allyson McKenna is an experienced box-to-box midfielder, supporting protege Minerva Hume Nelson, who has aspirations of being a similar player. In the wings, Tara Springsure and Camden Engstrom are young and energetic, although with a tendency to find themselves trapped too far up the field to be used for defensive purposes. Although star striker Jaclyn Swan-Weiss is entering the prime of her career, club woes at Celtic Noviodunum have hampered her performance recently. However, striking partner Carya Longreach displayed flashes of brilliance at the Olympic Games, leading to hopefulness among Gelderlish fans.

Team Cassadaigua- Eagles Cup XIV

Coach- Brittany Byers (58)
With Stephanie Sweeney now serving as the President of CASE, a new manager was needed for the Fillies for the first time since our return. Byers was the logical choice, since she had often been the backup national team manager, anyway. Has coached in the Copa Rushmori on multiple occasions, and was an assistant to Sweeney in World Cup 87, before being named the manager of the team prior to World Cup 88. Since that point, the results have been positive, so Brittany continues in this position for #91. Sure, there are some nations who would see a coach like this, and look at the recent run of Round of 16 exits and think that a change should be made, but CASE has never been like that. Byers is still the right person for the job. She scored her biggest coaching success recently when Cassadaigua won Copa Rushmori 40. Failing to qualify for World Cup 91 was a downer, but a third place effort in Cup of Harmony 83 made that a little easier to handle. As a player, the ex-defender played in World Cups 78 and 79, and was the captain of those teams. Also led Brattleboro FC to a national championship during her tenure there, but she no longer manages at the domestic level to focus on the national team.

Assistant- Hannah Shanley (Starksville United) (48)
Starting defender from World Cups 80-83, and then served as a regular substitute in World Cup 84. Has served in this role since World Cup 85, and that includes while she was still active as a player for a little while. Some are beginning to think that Shanley might be a little too focused on the national team, given Starksville United’s struggles of late. Shanley has been a regular assistant of Byers, but did not serve as such in the Copa Rushmori 40 title run.

After finally leading New Lakeland SC to the CSL championship, Stacie Thornton silenced all doubters that she was the best keeper in the country. Many already believed that she was, but it took the great domestic season to finally prove that she was that player. While she did start in the last Copa Rushmori, she has yet to become the #1 keeper on a World Cup team. That is something that figures to change in the upcoming World Cup, and seeing her listed as the starter here should lead to that when qualifying for the World Cup begins. Cynthia Kerr has plenty of experience, and also still elite, but the team’s failure to qualify in the last cycle doesn’t do her favors here. Since the Eagles Cup is being used mainly as preparation for qualifying, we can expect to see them arranged 1-2 in this order. Richardson was brought to the team in recognition of her career, but probably will not be on the World Cup side.

The core of this group remains in tact, and Morgan Rosenblatt is coming off a very good year in Nephara, so don’t think that she’s slowing down at all. Frontiera’s shocking announcement,

The soccer career of Jenna Frontiera is over, leaving many scratching their heads. She just celebrated her 30th birthday a couple months ago, and while that is an age where players may start to see their skills decline a bit, it doesn’t have to mean more than that. For Frontiera, she was coming off an excellent season with Brattleboro FC, and certainly was going to be a part of the World Cup roster once again. Perhaps the younger forwards, Chloe Anderson and Rachel Boldin could have given her a run for her money in as far as starting was concerned, but Frontiera certainly would have been on the team and played an integral role. Then, came the stunning retirement announcement.

“I wish to move on with the next chapter of my life,” Frontiera said in her announcement, “this means getting married and having children. I don’t want to be like other athletes who wait until their mid to late 30's to retire and then they are rushing to have kids quickly. I’ve done enough in soccer. I have won CSL titles with Brattleboro FC and represented Cassadaigua in the World Cup on several occasions. I have won a Copa Rushmori title. The only thing that I would really have to do in my career would be to win a World Cup, but only select few people are able to accomplish that. So, I am satisfied with what I have, it is time to move on.” Brattleboro FC fans are going to be the ones affected the most, but the team will likely throw some money around to where they will be able to get by. This will impact the national team, we think. Although, there is a school of thought out there that Frontiera saw the writing on the wall with both Anderson and Boldin, as well as 23-year old Allyson Perry. The team is going to go through a youth moment at her position, and Frontiera has been criticized for underachieving during World Cup qualifying for the last two World Cups. With the last effort resulting in Cassadaigua’s failure to qualify, there may have been pressure on manager Brittany Byers to focus more on the next generation of forwards. I am personally not among that school of thought. Bayley Stanton was still going to start with Frontiera alongside her with Anderson and Boldin being substitutes. Now, Byers is going to be in a tough situation to choose who starts along Stanton: Anderson or Boldin? The two of them have very similar statistics at the international level. Although, with the way the Eagles Cup roster is constructed, maybe Stanton will not start. I have hard time believing that, though.

Like last time, the Eagles Cup will replace the series of pre-qualifying friendlies that Cassadiagua has unless they have a quick exit. Then, you will likely see some friendlies get scheduled. Byers believes that the Eagles Cup provides an elevated level of competition that friendlies will never provide, and therefore are the better preliminary games. Hopefully, we will do better in this competition this time around.

DiMarini counts to 26, astounds fans

In what has come as a surprise to many fans, Kate DiMarini has named twenty-six players to the national team for Eagles Cup 14. "I wasn't aware there were twenty-six Zwangzugians with names in the whole freaking 1./," said Ellen Mirdrin, of Kerlagrad. "Okay, twenty-three, without Axelrod-Conway and Ngyuen and Richardson."

"Look, there's a good chance that this tournament might not wrap up until the qualifiers are getting underway," DiMarini said. "We need to be ready to take a full squad there. Plus, we're allowed like five substitutions now, I think?"

"You can't tell me the World Cup Committee suddenly decided to give us permission to do that," retorted Callan Herschel-Green, of Spenson. "I mean, look, you see the kinds of teams they allow, they really don't give a rip."

There are seven new players on the roster, but the uniform-numbering scheme strongly suggests that Freda Tery-Wilf, Nina Irving, Soumini Bano-Patil, and Evan Dewey were replacements for the recently retired Kausalya Vizirani, Jesse McWhorter, Fedya Troy-Vee, and Junia McCue, respectively. This would mean that Shlomo Eustace, Ashley Fillmore-Gaul, and Ryota Imamura were hastily added to the list as soon as DiMarini realized no one would stop her from doing so, but perhaps are more likely to be there for the future/in case of freakish injury/illness rates. They will sport jerseys 24, 25, and 26, for the first time since Dana Bloomquist, Bennett Covy, and Natasha Keller, respectively, hung them up.

"Why does our guy have to be #24?" groused Brandon Walker, of Bassabook. "That's so gaaaaaay." [While Cafundelense numerology has certainly had an important influence on the football world, the Courier reminds fans that insulting players' or anyone else's sexual orientation is poor form. -ed]

Thor had two tough jobs on taking over as manager: living up to the standards set by Valhalla-bound Igrene Cantor, and improving the woeful Copa Rushmori record of the Snow Wolves. One Copa Rushmori title later… It may be early to judge but Thor has at least seemed to settle in nicely, perhaps reflecting his already having found a welcoming home in Græntfjall, where has has previously served as manager of GT Molding, taking the club to their first silverware in decades with the Cup, then next season winning the league title and then repeating the trick. His more attacking approach has proved something of a culture shock for a Snow Wolves that very nearly won the World Cup without bothering to score any goals in regulation, but they adapted to play some free-flowing, fascinating, fun football in the Copa. Former U18 assistant manager Saxi Dómaldsson has been moved up to assistant.

Squad: A 26-person squad has been named for the tournament, and we will use five substitutes per game. If you do not recognize 26/5, then ignore our last 2 substitutions and assume our 3 extra players on the roster are just there to provide moral support.

Names. -son names are men, -dóttir names women. Græntfjallers are comfortable having their first name used instead of their surnames, though there’s no consistent standard on this. Players without a patronymic surname are Kamdyr, members of a minority nomadic community; Jasmijn is female. Hanif is sometimes referred to as Hanif Anwar, omitting the -sson.
Sex. The Græntfjaller Premier League is unisex and it is seen as uncontroversial for men and women to play alongside each other. We will by default play a mixed team, an all-male against those who play all-male squads, and an all-female squad against those who play all-female squads [meaning that we will play an all-female team against New Gelderland].
Transfers. The financial status of football in Græntfjall is improving, and million+ NS$ contracts are increasingly common. But because the GPL isn’t especially strong, most NT players and hopefuls ply their trade abroad. I normally conduct transfers through the Transfer Window but if you have a desire to sign a player I am usually open to arranging a transfer outside that; send a TG/DM. I am particularly open to such deals when linked to an ongoing RP story.
Style of play. In general, Græntfjaller players are athletic and have excellent whole-match fitness, disciplined, and not prone to violence or emotional outbursts. They are, however, not tremendously skilled. A particular type of footballer, nicknamed “BFG” (Big Fucking Græntfjaller), is associated with the country, normally playing in roles such as center back, defensive midfielder, or center forward. The new crop of, predominantly though not exclusively, female central midfielders somewhat eschew this stereotype and there have been growing attempts to get more skilful players into the lineup, most notably Sara Kristoffersdóttir and Kæja Finnvarðsdóttir.
Tournament philosophy: Græntfjall has traditionally approached the Eagl’e’s’ Cup in a slightly experimental spirit, while at the same time aiming to put out a team capable of playing at international level. Previous selection criteria have included: all domestic players, all women, players who had previously missed out on playing at the Eagl’e’s’ Cup, and a representative from each of the prior 23 international squads. The last edition saw KG send a full-strength squad for the first time; dispiritingly, it also marked their worst ever performance! For this tournament, new manager Thor has been permitted to chose as he wishes, meaning the squad is full-strength-ish, with the ish reflecting a couple of older players being given rest and a couple of positions still in question being given more scrutiny.
Captaincy. Johanna Álvgeirsdóttir continues as captain, but in the event she does not play, we will revert to an elective model and if I have not specified a captain, you may pick should you wish.
Timing. In my timeline this occurs 1 year after the last CR and 2 years after the WC. It occurs in the winter immediately before WCQ begins; it does not overlap with the WCQs in my canon. It occurs after TW37 has concluded and any players signed during this period will be on their new team.

Home arena: National High Performance Sports Center, Græntfjaller Multinesia

For Græntfjaller Eagl’e’s’ Cup teams, it has become a tradition for all ‘home’ games to be played at the National High Performance Sports Center. This obviates any home advantage and may in fact disadvantage Græntfjaller players who have previously struggled in tropical conditions, but there is a clear secondary aim of gaining experience in the conditions, which are likely to be hot and humid, but not unbearably so.

The NHPSC is a large multi-sports complex featuring training areas for almost every Olympic and other major sport that Græntfjall competes in. The stadium has now met its full planned capacity of 50,000 and is up to full international standards, though corporate hospitality remains limited in availability. The NHPSC is based in Græntfjaller Multinesia, the largest constituent island of the Græntfjaller South Indies. Where these lie is somewhat confusing as those consulting the Rushmori regional map will find no reference to them: they certainly exist though and lie in tropical oceans far to the south east/west/up/down/strange/charm/other of the Græntfjaller mainland.

The Græntfjaller South Indies were the only major colonial possession of the Queendom captured during the Age of Piracy. During the 20th century, Græntfjall fell under communist rule and the islands were granted independence, an unfortunate oversight which was quickly corrected in the immediate post-communist era, welcoming the islanders back under the benevolent and wise rule of the mainland, which has brought them many modern amenities such as industrial strip-mining of the landscape, while employment opportunities abound in the sweatshops of the Export Processing Zones that, free from international labor regulations, are veritable hives of industry churning out produce for the Græntfjaller and international markets nearly round-the-clock! Many natural beauty spots have been preserved, however, most of them now playing home to luxury vacation resorts, private residences, and golf courses.

There is a naval base, multiple air strips, and a full marine battalion, on the islands, and a heavily military presence is noticeable. There are some restricted areas where photography is not permitted and some areas of the islands are completely off-limits. Have no fear, though, security is assured, and terrorist groups such as the savage “Multinesian Human Rights Council” and “Indigenous People’s Clean Water Defence Fund” are being firmly policed to prevent any rogue action such as passing on documentation of the pollution of their tribal homelands.

Note: this should also obviate any concerns about recent developments as the games will not be being played in Græntfjall proper.

Kaji is a huge talent who should be a part of the 'old' team, a slightly attacking fullback rightfully employed by slightly attacking Katashi. The centreback positions are a little varied in skill and to what extent the players have been able to show their talent, but Aedil is the real deal. Already playing for Top League side Tanques AOE, the rock solid defender has the world at his feet. Lavaud is less of a decision maker but still a very skilled player. Gillinghurst was selected ahead of a third option at the position, Thomas Finsterrais, as these three players will likely supply the NT with a left centre back for the next two decades. The right centre back position is less cemented, so yLleamaid and Gillinghurst could turn out there as well. Siltinthen does start for Maethoru sometimes. Poullain, much like Gehrenna, is a bit of question mark though we know the ceiling is high.

Entatingun is the playmaker of the old NT so there's no question that he's the focal point of the team. He should get most help from Laza who came up through the ranks very quickly in the last half year to earn a contract with Miradela, fitting their personality requirements as a somewhat glamorous yet ruthless on-field character. Uozomi, once dubbed the reincarnation of Yokota, has had a difficult season and there's no certainty about whether he'll make it in the NT or if he fizzles out early in his career. That said, the expectations are high. Takagaki and Walbuck are pretty good so far as well, so the most likely midfield is a diamond with Uozomi and Walbuck in front and behind, and the two central mids close to each other on a narrow midfield. Laza deserves more playing time, and can start alongside Entatingun in a slightly lopsided midfield with one winger...

yOraenaig is a huge talent who's a little more comfortable on the ball than most Ko-orenite NT strikers. A more typical option is Lemaigre, who needs half a chance to score a full goal, and Twickaway, who'll have to develop quite a bit but his maturity for his age helps him tremendously.

We play post-football, a term coined during World Cup 89 to put words to a horrible semifinal between Audioslavia and the Dragonflies, which ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, then all but one penalty was scored in the ensuing series. Post-football means no singing. No cheering. No scoring. Post-football is sideways passes, looking like the same, repetitive movements for minutes on end, but with tiny variations that at some point will get to you. It could be a counterattack, or a shot from distance, or a set piece. Post-football doesn't care if it takes 90 or 120 minutes, or more.

This team is all about containing their opponent, letting them make mistakes, and capitalising on those. Let the other guys get impatient, lose the ball, and immediately go for the counter attack. Yes, it's frustrating to play against, but you have to admit that there's a certain beauty to doing this near-flawlessly every single time. The Dragonflies aren't a very physical team, but can match almost every opponent in stamina (not so much power or speed, though. Typically only the wingers are pacy). Instead, they rely on tactics and patience. The team is also good enough to be in possession a lot and dictate the tempo, though they're not always creative enough to break down the opposing defence - for that, the Dragonflies have learned to be very, very good on counterattacks, set pieces, and a few patterns in open play. Given the experience most of these players have, it's hard to come up with something new they've never seen - and then do that well enough to reliably score. In order to beat us, you'll need to bring two (or more) of the following: power, speed, caution.

Basically, this team comes prepared, is patient, and keeps a cool head.

The standard for this team. Five defenders, a defensive midfielder-slash-pivot, two wingers, an attacking midfielder-annex-second striker, and a pure finisher up front. In possession, one of the defenders can push up: this might be one of the fullbacks to provide width, but can also be one of the centrebacks, in which case the defensive midfielder makes way. The wingers will be wider or narrower based on the opposition, and the same determines how far the fullbacks will advance. In defence, the team becomes narrower, with the defensive midfielder playing spoiler to whoever is trying to find space between the Ko-orenite lines, and the wingers falling back to meet opposing fullbacks. The striker and attacking midfielder will almost always look for space to launch a counterattack.

HUElavia 1-1 Flavovespia

In their Eagle’s Cup debut, Flavovespia played out a score draw against HUElavia as the sides looked to make it out of the Confederations Qualifying Group. Interest was high amongst Flavovespians, as the side had the chance to partake in a “Champions of Champions” style tournament, a good curtain raiser for the next World Cup cycle. New kits, the all black away one for Flavovespia, and a slightly adjusted side were also on display.

Flavovespia kicked off with just the one change from the CAFA Cup 4 winning starting 11. Paul Taylor was now alongside Stuart Cookson in the defence. An early test came when David Navarro-Hamada whipped in a great cross, but Cookson did brilliantly to head it away from any danger, not even conceding a corner in the process. HUElavia were the stronger side in the first 30 minutes or so, and Aarif Muhammad also needed to be in fine form to keep Flavovespia from falling behind. 32 minutes in and Flavovespia nearly scored against the run of play. Jonathan Bagshaw got free down the wing, and sent in an angled cross. It beat Ignacio Casillas in the air, but was just too far ahead of Michael Cole to be able to latch onto it and turn it in. That was the best chance Flavovespia had, and at half time they were thankful in a way it was goalless.

Whatever Augusto Rinaldi said at the break had an immediate positive impact. 2 minutes into the second half, and Kieron Player’s long ball forward set Adrian Jones through on goal. Casillas tried to narrow the angle, but Jones slotted the ball in low to give Flavovespia the lead. However, 10 minutes later, just as Flavovespia looked to be asserting control, the equaliser came. Elena Bellerose gave David Blythe the slip, and then had room to shoot from outside the box. She did, and the shot left Aarif Muhammad with no chance. The equaliser with just over half an hour to go, setting up an interesting second half.

The second half turned into one of plenty of half chances, but no decisive breakthrough or major chances. HUElavia saw the majority of the ball, but found Flavovespia stubborn in defence and hard to break down. There were more shots from outside the box, but none that really threatened. Flavovespia kept their more direct game up, but HUElavia did a good job nullifying the pace of Cole and Bagshaw, and substitute Amrik Singh in the final minutes.

1-1 it would finish, the same result in the other group game. Ultimately Flavovespia can’t be too disappointed with a point after a shaky start, however they’ll see the game against Tecoia as crucial to get a win to try and progress.

Tecoia 0-3 Flavovespia

Flavovespia pulled out an impressive display to beat Tecoia and take a big step in progressing to the Eagle’s Cup Confederations Group. Not quite a must win, but certainly an important game, Flavovespia showed their skill and resolve here.

One change from the previous game saw Andrew Dance replace David Blythe at right back. Like the last game as well, it was something of a slow start for Flavovespia, with Tecoia having a few half chances saved by Aarif Muhammad within the first 15 minutes. Tecoia were quickest out of the gate and were pressing to take the lead, but just lacked the clinical edge.

The final 5 minutes of the first half proved key. The opening goal came from the Bagshaw to Cole combination. Almost a repeat of the HUElavia game, Bagshaw sent in an angled cross towards the far post and Michael Cole. Again it beat the goalkeeper, but crucially this time Cole was able to get to the ball and head it over the line. Then, in the 43rd minute, a careless pass at the back fell into the path of Michael Cole. He was clean through, and made no mistake with the finish. From looking like it’d be scoreless at the break, Flavovespia went in with a 2 goal lead.

The second half was one of sensible control from Flavovespia. Tecoia struggled to replicate their start from the first half, and as the minutes ticked on, Flavovespia looked more relaxed and confident. Substitute Robert Totten would make it a 3 goal lead in the 78th minute. Kieron Player’s free kick wasn’t cleared well, and in a bit of a scramble it was Totten who eventually got a clean shot away and in. The last minutes saw a double substitution to give Michael Hornby and Malcolm Beresford their debuts for Flavovespia.

Flavovespia will be assured of a place in the Confederations Group Stage, should they avoid a defeat to Cassadaigua. HUElavia failing to defeat Tecoia will also almost certainly send Flavovespia through. Nevertheless, Flavovespia will still likely try and play for a win against Cassadaigua, with Rinaldi keen to avoid making too many changes to what he sees as a winning strategy.

Eagle's Cup Participation Dismiss the Resignation Rumour

Pemecutan Puri - Following yet another disappointment result at 11th MAC final, there was a rumour spread in the country about the resignation of the men's football team manager, Surya Agung Pramana. No one know who spread the rumour first but it was believe that the speculation arise after CMFA sanctioned over the country after the riot at the end of the final match. On an interview, Pramana implicitly referring to his possibility to resign as the national team's manager. During the interview he expressed his disappointment and how he had buried the nation's dream to lifted the trophy for the first time. "I'm not a good manager". This sentence that sparks the rumour.

When the rumour was confirmed to PFA official's, no exact answer was given. The Spokesperson only mention that Pramana's position was being reviewed. But no further announcement happened. Until the country is invited to Eagle's Cup. The second for the country. And Pramana's name is in the team officials list as manager.

We give another chance for Mr. Pramana to lead our national team until the next Mandalanusa Cup.

This news subside the rumour rapidly. Pramana himself stated his grateful for the opportunity and he will do the best for the country. And the result can be seen at the start of Eagle's Select Group. The team success to score a full point from its first two matches, against Ko-oren and Electrum. Although Pramana hinted their fragile defense. Despite a huge goal that the team scored but they were also conceded a lot of goals. Herman Putrawan who is re-call for national team after his great domestic performance last season was performed lower than what's Pramana expected. Pramana said that there might be a change in the squad for the next 2 matches. They will be playing against StrayaRoos for the last of the first leg. And they will meet Ko-oren for their second meeting. StrayaRoos was quite surprising after their 1-0 win against Ko-oren. While this have been a bad start for Ko-oren where they were losing both their first two matches.

Tumbra's fairly-defined, rigid two party plus system has been in place since the early 20th century; since 1898, all Prime Ministers have come from either the centre-left Labour Party or the centre-right Liberal/National coalition. If we're counting predecessors, then that lineage goes back to 1882, when the Commonwealth Party, widely seen as a party that largely preceded Labour, gave Tumbra the first of three Prime Ministers.

Both the centre-left and centre-right have won huge victories; which in turn have meant that the opposite side has lost, dramatically. Compared to the scale of other electoral wipeouts, though — see the Krytenian drubbing of Charles Linton's Reform Party after the Atlantian Oceania-Anaia split, which saw their party go from three hundred and one seats to just four — these defeats have been relatively minor. Former Federal Constitutional Court justice, Michelle Ruth Gerwitz, perhaps put it best when she said that the defining sign of Tumbran politics was the pendulum; it may swing one way at some points in time, but it will almost always swing back.

What is relatively interesting, however, is the short span of time in which both Labour's and the Liberals' biggest electoral victories occurred. Labour's occurred in 1969, at the height of Malcolm Haywood's popularity; while the Liberals' victory in 1980 ushered in a twelve-year tenure of possibly the most economically liberal government. Today we do a deeper dive into what made those elections as lopsided (in the Tumbran context) as they did; and whether those unique circumstances might be re-enacted in today's political climate.

1969: Malcolm Haywood's Third Term

What made this election victory all the more surprising in retrospect was just how difficult it seemed to be to attain. Winning 400 seats on 49% of the first preference votes seems difficult enough already, but the Liberals winning exactly half that total while only winning ten percent less of the vote would be unthinkable in today's circumstances. In many cases it seemed that Labour spread their votes out more evenly; in over a hundred seats they finished second after the first count of votes, while they won dramatically after preferences were re-directed, while the Liberals tended to rack up huge majorities in the 200 seats they eventually ended the night on. In Gianne (Iswilyn) they racked up 72% of first preference votes; while in most suburban seats they tended to pick up something like 44% of the vote to Labour's 40-42%, before Moderate preferences delivered the seats to Labour.

What made things even more surprising was that this election result was delivered on the back of a very modest 2% swing to the Liberals. Four years earlier, Malcolm Haywood won 356 seats on 47% of the popular vote; former Marlsbruhe premier Timothy Fraser won a relatively modest 247 seats (losing 50 seats in the process) on 42% of the vote. The signs that Labour were about to pick up an even bigger victory were already there in that election; and the enduring popularity of Malcolm Haywood only served to increase the margin of victory.

Haywood, who was in his sixth year of sixteen as Prime Minister, had re-nationalised the steel industry, began construction on a network of nationwide railway lines that would later become the backbone of today's high-speed railway network, founded the Tumbran Health Service and had overseen a remarkable period of economic stability, capping off nearly twenty-five years of uninterrupted growth. He was personally popular — a reputation of someone who was a "doer" rather than a "sayer" had endeared him to a large section of the Tumbran populace — and made himself the centrepiece of the Labour campaign. The betting markets — which in those days were remarkable for their accuracy, more so than the hitherto relatively untested field of "exit polling" — opened with Labour with evens to win, and closed a remarkable five days before the election with Labour having the remarkable odds of 1/3.

To further ease the odds in his direction, Haywood had five years earlier abolished the university constituencies; an archaic construction of the first hundred years of the Republic, following in an utilitarian tradition that dictated that the educated should receive more votes. The fifteen seats had always turned out to be Liberal strongholds; as graduates from universities almost always voted Liberal at the time.

The victory was a fairly foregone conclusion, but what the most surprising moment of election night turned out to be was the calculation of preference flows; where it turned out that Labour had won 78% of Moderate preferences and 52% of the right-wing Conservative Party's preferences. Fraser resigned as Liberal leader almost immediately after the defeat, disclaimed his victory in his seat of Princetown and retired from front-line politics soon after. The Liberals were shattered; they had lost ninety-seven seats in six years, and were reduced to (for their standards) a rump caucus in the House of Representatives. For Labour and Haywood, it marked the zenith of his power; four years later, he would come within six seats of losing his majority, and the economic winds would turn against him for the more tumultuous last six years of his premiership.

1980: The Rainier Revolution

That it took just eleven years for the Liberals to recover from that defeat was remarkable; that this election result did not provide the country's largest-ever parliamentary majority proved to be even more remarkable. The Rainier Revolution of 1980 produced a majority for the Liberals of a 184; but Haywood's landslide victory of 1969 produced a majority of 185. Rainier's first election victory, however, remains the most lopsided victory in terms of both the margin of seats and the two-party preferred vote; the 21% difference between the two major parties has never been bettered.

By the late 1970s, Haywood's government had run out of steam: amidst the economic headwinds of the decade, a stagnant economy coupled with inflation and unemployment that orthodox economics (for the time) did not seem to have a solution to, growing disenchantment with politics and a desire for change at the top resulted in the grand old man of Tumbran politics finally losing his majority in 1979. He departed, but reluctantly; the Moderates, who would end up being Labour's junior coalition partners, demanded a change at the top for any chance of cooperation. Holly Philips, a fast-rising star in the last days of the Haywood administration, would take the reins as Tumbra's first (and so far, only) woman Prime Minister.

But Philips' reign as Prime Minister would not go down well with most; Cabinet memos from the time, memoirs from long-departed civil servants and former ministers and the like have described the working relationship between Moderate leader Johan Dawson and the Prime Minister as atrocious at best and antagonistic at worst; her treatment in the press (especially the right-wing tabloids, mostly marshalled by a then-middle aged Georgian media proprietor named Alexander Harrison) was probably closer to unbridled savagery than an unbiased view on the workings of government; and then the winter of 1979/1980, in which Tumbra experienced the worst conditions in a hundred years, added further misery to her government. When the Moderates threatened to walk out of government after she attempted to raise government spending to provide aid for those stuck in the storm, Philips attempted to call their bluff; but the Moderates ended up actually doing so, sparking a remarkable situation where the five Moderate ministers attending cabinet dramatically exited the cabinet building halfway through a Cabinet meeting.

Andrew Rainier, who had established himself as an easygoing, suave campaigner, had taken a lead in the polls early into Philips' tenure as PM and never let it go; his promise of radical economic change through shedding much of the dead-weight of government and a new strategy of targeting the twin evils of stagnation and inflation (which, as it turned out, involved tweaking interest rates to seventeen and a half percent in 1981, a number which has never again been reached in the fifty years since) was music to most Tumbrans' ears.

The result marked a radical shift in Tumbra's voting patterns; Rainier's voting coalition was comprised of the traditional Liberal support base of the upper and upper-middle classes, federalists and business owners, but also included members of the working classes for the first time, which became part of the self-professed class of "Rainier Labourites", which contributed to unprecedented victories in the inner cities, where the Liberal brand had been traditionally regarded as toxic. The following twelve years of Rainier's right-wing revolution would see an almost unprecedented decade of liberalisation of the economy; something that has been, depending on political persuasions, decried since as selling off the house china and the shelf that it came in, or as the saviour of the Tumbran economy. Fifty years on, the impact of Rainier's realigning victory is still being felt; be it in the moderation of Labour and reining in of its more left-wing factions in a bid to remain electable, the rising house prices in Straton and almost everywhere, or the declining power of labour unions.

In that sense, then, 1980 marked the end of an era, defined almost solely by Malcolm Haywood and marked by a commitment to social spending, welfare and regulation; and the start of a new one, defined by Rainier's embrace of markets, monetary policy and liberalisation. It is therefore almost fitting that the two biggest electoral defeats in Tumbra were inflicted by these two titans of the political arena; and it is something that may never be seen again.

Some felt Græntfjall had missed an opportunity by not following their Pavolan neighbors, Tikariot, in fielding an all-women team for the Copa Rushmori, a feeling amplified when they drew Cassadaigua in the final, so amends of a sort were made in the baking heat of the National High Performance Sports Center in Græntfjaller Multinesia as the Snow Wolves showed an all-woman lineup for the opening game of their Eagl’e’s’ Cup campaign. This was both a callback to the team’s most successful ever campaign, in the 10th edition, where 23 women made the final against Tequilo, and a nod to their opponents, Olympic (women’s) champions New Gelderland. The unusual lineup lasted just 41 minutes, unfortunately, until Sveinbjörg Áslaugsdóttir was forced off after looking unsteady on her feet following a clash of heads. The substitution suggested KG, or at least Thor and his team, are taking head injuries more seriously following the damning report during the offseason by the Ministry of Health & Racial Hygiene into lax enforcement of concussion protocols in the GPL. Captain Johanna Álvgeirsdóttir, who famously was unable to take part in the nailbiting penalty shootout in the World Cup quarterfinal against Valanora owing to injury, made up for that absence, somewhat, by converting from the spot for the winner in a game that didn’t quite live up to its billing, both teams seeming to struggle with the sapping humidity.

The following game against Eura was more scheduled as a late evening kickoff and the cooler temperatures made for a far more entertaining game, particularly in the second half, as the night chill had set in. After Eura took an early lead through a header from a free-kick – a worrying continuation of a pattern of poor defending of set-pieces – Lara Auðunsdóttir pegged things level just before the half in slightly controversial style, bundling in a goal as she clashed with the Euran keeper. For a player who thought her international career might be over, the goal was welcome relief regardless of coming with few style points attached. A wonderful solo run from Sara Kristoffersdóttir and a powerful finish lit the fuse in the second half, after which Johanna stabbed home a messily defended free-kick before Röskvi Tyrfingsson, another striker searching for goals to rejuvenate his international career, was gifted the easiest finish of his life at the back post. A late Euran consolation effort kept the margin to two and caused brief excitement for the final few minutes. The Snow Wolves may not have learned a great deal from their first two matches – though the little heralded Svandís Marcosdóttir took her opportunity well with an impressive showing – but they came away with six points, more than they managed across six games in the last Eagl’e’s’ Cup, which will be satisfying enough for now.

Nephara will be the opponent on the third matchday of Eagles Cup XIV as the Cormorants and Bees meet for the fifth time in history. The BBP Stadium will be the venue for the showdown against the Rushmori nation that has won on both their previous visits to Belle Haven—3-2 at Sportsmen's Park in World Cup 82 Qualifying and 2-0 on Match Day 2 of World Cup 84 Group E play at this venue.

The last contest between them was the biggest match in BPNT history when it occurred, in the Semi-Final of World Cup 85 at Haven Stadium in Maal, Mriin. In a contemporary evaluation, it remains a question of whether it can be considered a stepping stone, or a ceiling.

Having secured back to back knockout stage victories over a pair of regional nemeses, the Commonwealth were looking to complete their six cycle rise from zeroes to World Cup Finalists with the core of the squad the product of the Football Association of the Commonwealth's Youth Development Charter, most of which were in their primes; Ichi Tuzzio, the first foreign born manager of the BPNT had molded a side that had lost only twice in 39 previous matches and had the experience of being the reigning World Cup Championship boss.

It was expected to be the first of many opportunities to join the ranks of nations that could be considered 'contenders' for subsequent World Cup cycles, but BP have only won a single knockout stage match in the WCF not played in Baker Park since that evening in Mriin.

In a wider view it has the potential to become a haunting loss, where you can almost see the high water mark at the moment when the wave broke and rolled back*
