World Lacrosse Championships 41--SIGNUPS

Postby Commonwealth of Baker Park » Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:02 pm

The 41st World Lacrosse Championship is now open for entries to participate. Can anyone stop the Sarzonia juggernaut? You can't do it if you don't get in the game.

The WLC is open to national teams of single gender, mixed gender, mixed species, or even sentient beings. However the tournament operates under the rules for the men's game in terms of number of players, physical contact, etc.

This is also the thread to submit a host bid to have the WLC circus come to your nation. The nature and size of this event means it is an excellent place to get your first "major sport" hosting experience.

Baker Park is in, how about you?
Away we go, best of luck!

How much time will there be between your being chosen as host and the start of roleplaying if you are selected as host?

One piece of feedback you received after hosting the ARWC was you started with Matchday 1 very soon after creating the Everything thread. It did not give a lot of people, including those of us with obligations outside of the game, work, school, and the like much of a chance to post rosters and begin to worldbuild. Are you taking that feedback seriously and will it affect how you handle this tournament?

Secondly, communication was another big issue. You implemented the playoff format you chose without informing any of your participants of your plans and what that format would look like. It's one thing to use a format many of us haven't seen, but to implement that without advising us ahead of time is bad form.

Also, this tournament is fairly soon after the ARWC finished. Are you sure you can handle the workload of two tournaments so quickly after each other?

Question for StrayaRoos: will the group stage be single round-robin or double round-robin? If double, will the games be hosted home-and-away or entirely in StrayaRoos?

Can you be more specific? You have listed possible formats of 16, 20, and 24, which is a good start. Which would be double round robin and which would be single?

We will at least get the host vote started.

The options are:
1) Accept the bid from StrayRoos
2) re-open nominations

Submit Votes via TG to The Cordian Isles by Saturday, August 27 by 1:00 am EDT (North America)--or in other words, 4 days from this post. (96 hours)

All nations signed up for the tournament are eligible to vote.

If we do not reach 16 entries by the conclusion of the vote, we will accept puppets from entrants after the decision has been reached.

OOC: I had initially decided to not bid because I had a bid in for the RTC World Cup. While I had been thinking about doing this if re-open bids won, there was no behind the scenes talking to anyone to let them know that I was thinking about it (in case anyone is suspicious of that).

WORLD LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS 41
OFFICIAL HOSTING BID

I) Format

Any logical format will be used depending on the number of signups. Group sizes will be even. At the moment, there are 15 signups, so we can target 16, while being willing to do 20. Higher numbers seem unlikely, but 24 would be worked with if we got there.

Competition will be a double round robin, with each nation playing its groupmates once at home, and once away. This is not a “all games in host nation” bid. This allows you to treat your home fans to the group stage games in hopes of making it to Cassadaigua for the playoffs.

Playoffs: Eight teams is probable, since we are looking at either four groups of four, or four groups of five. This will have eight teams get in (first and second place teams per group. First place teams would be seeded 1-4, and second place teams 5-8). In the event of an unexpected rush to 24 teams, we will have four groups of six, with second and third placed teams playing each other in a preliminary round while first place teams get a first round bye. Should Cassadaigua make the playoffs, third party scorination will be sought.

Tiebreakers: H2H, H2H GD, Overall GD, GF.
If further criteria needed to determine a playoff team: Tiebreaker Game.
If further criteria needed to simply determine seeding: “Coin toss” (Game will be scorinated between the tied nations OOCly using only their accumulated RP bonus to that point).

II) Scorination and RP Bonus

I will use xkoranate, and the current WLC ranks. RP bonus is extremely generous. This is especially important in a smaller tournament like this. When awarding RP bonus, quality is valued more then quantity but everything and anything is appreciated.

A roster bonus is provided, but if not provided prior to MD1, the nation's rank will be reduced by 50%. If not provided by the midway point, it will be reduced by 100%. Rank will be fully restored with the posting of a roster. Additionally, a late roster will only receive 75% of the possible bonus it could have been attained if it was timely. (ex. Roster bonus is 4 points, max. Rosters posted before the tournament will have the potential to score up to 4 points. A late roster will only have the potential to score up to 3 points). There will be at least five days, and one full weekend, between the posting of the everything thread, and MD1.

RP bonus is cumulative throughout the tournament, from beginning to end, with no reductions made in it any time.

Cutoff times will be somewhere between 7 & 10pm EDT (Eastern USA). Haven't decided the full window yet, but that's the range to potentially expect.

III) Experience

Have hosted multiple editions of the World Cup (with co-hosting help), the World Baseball Classic, and a slew of other stuff that can be seen in my signature, including the WLC on several occasions.

While I am not known for fancy logos, I am known for reliable and consistent cutoffs, just ask around. In the rare, though possible times I may have difficulty, nations are notified in advance. Typically, when I make the initial schedule, I know what days I will be busier then others and plan accordingly at that time. My recent limited RP in other tournaments is not really because I am too busy, but more due to writers bloc. I would not be bidding if I did not feel as though I could not do it well at this time, if awarded the competition. The tournament will be in good hands.

IV) Safety and Security

Mainly an IC note, but this will be a completely safe tournament with the knockout rounds taking place in traditional mainland Cassadaigua. The terrorists up north will not impact the tournament.

Feel free to ask any questions!
NS Sports’ only World Cup, World Bowl, World Cup of Hockey, World Baseball Classic and International Basketball Championships winner!
