McCullough was a legendary historian who won the Pulitzer Prize for his biographies of US Presidents John Adams and Harry Truman.
His best-selling stories of American accomplishment were complemented by his work as a public television host and narrator for popular movies and documentaries, including Ken Burns' The Civil War.
McCullough died Sunday at his home in Hingham, Mass., according to his publishers Simon and Schuster. He was 89 years old.
He also wrote about the Brooklyn Bridge the Panama Canal and The Declaration of Independence, Theodore Roosevelt and the Wright Brothers. There are simply to many to list here.
McCullough was a truly amazing man whose work will be remembered for decades if not centuries to come. May he rest in peace and enjoy the great library above.
