TL;DR: raise your national flag in this index!

Nations throughout the multiverse are associated with many things - national animals, symbols, history, ideologies and far, far more. Flying high above these are national flags; whether rectangular, circular or another shape, a flag can encapsulate the spirit of an entire nation. Brown as a beagle's fur or green as a forest, decorated with heraldry or completely minimalist, national flags are an opportunity for a nation to speak volumes about who they are and what they stand for, where they came from and where they are going. Throughout the streets of Dexterra, you may see our Independex Flag; first hoisted on our inaugural independence day (or Independex Day) on 5 May 2022, it symbolizes our national animal, the clearness of our skies, the coral sand on our shores, the moment of our revolution, our passion for the arts - and, ultimately, it stands for democracy, dignity and all Dexter people.

Via Facterra, Dexters under our Independex Flag would like to unfurl the National Flag Gallery; much like our National Animal Zoo, this public cultural center is a place where you can list your national flag and freely explore exhibits of other national flags. Entrants will be sorted alphabetically by nation name, though further information may voluntarily be included:

Thank you for your interest in the National Flag Gallery!

All you have to do. Please upload a copy of one flag to an approved image host and attach a link in a reply here (using spoiler tags) with your nation's name - you may also include your pretitle, the flag's name and any additional information under that spoiler.

To make it clear. We would sincerely appreciate it if you used spoiler tags! When posting material in the gallery, Facterra will sort contents in spoilers first by image, then by any text and finally a link to your nation for further tourist reference (you can also tell us to withhold that link to your nation if you would like).

We appreciate your interest!

If you would like it:

Code: Select all

Please be aware of what site rules consider an acceptable flag (more information available in the malicious content site policy); should you see a flag here or anywhere in NationStates that violates these site rules/policies, you should file a Getting Help Request following the 'Guide to Making an Effective Help Request,' thank you.

Facterra will remove an entry if its nation CTEs, but feel free to let us know if your nation is refounded and would like your entry back up!

We get it - nations change all the time!

If at any point you would like to update your flag along with any other information, just follow the same procedures as your previous one and be sure to let us know of your prior application - voluntarily linking to that application would be highly appreciated.

If you don't want to update your flag, only other information - pretitle, flag name, additional info, anything at all - you don't need to reattach your flag, but do post whichever updates you would like us to take care of; as above, voluntarily linking to your previous application would be highly appreciated.

Thank you!

The slate blue band represents the nation's island geography and the importance of maritime trade and piracy in its history. The white band signifies the Asuckian people's religiousness, as well as the government's strong commitment to maintaining peace. The yellow band is used as a representative of liberty, prosperity, and agriculture. "The light blue represents the ever-free sky, while dark blue represents the vast ocean. The 2 lines converging into one represent the unity of the people from the North and the South. The falcon represents the free will of the people, which is also the exact logo of the Burikinian Liberation Corps, the nation's liberator. The golden color on the falcon represents the glory and honor of the nation. The cross on the falcon represents the unity of the nation, and the white represents the peacefulness and magnificence of Burikinia."

The design of the flag of Comicsland (nicknamed "The Glorious Comic Book") has remained almost unchanged since 1898. The only thing that was changed is the black circle in the middle, added in 2006.

The yellow simbolize Yellow Kid,the first modern comic ever created

Blue simbolize the ink used to write and draw

The book simbolize the comics, the base of our nation

The olive branches represent peace and prosperity

The stars represents both solidarity to the people and some of the Confederate States of Comicsland

The black circle represent our outer space dominions

"The red of the flag symbolizes the red planet of Mars and the triumph of the people firmly united under Martian socialism. The white symbolizes the dignity of the Martian people and the brilliance of their ideas. The blue stands for the oceans and sky created through the mastery of terraforming and the spirit of the Martian people working towards peace alongside progress.

Each star represents one constituent state of the Union and the most prominent star at center represents the federal district. Furthermore, the flag as a whole represents Mars, the red field, as a brilliant star among the other stars and planets in space, the deep blue fields above and below."

"Description: A 2,560 × 1,707 banner of arms (with a flag proportion of 2:3) described as a black cross in a deep crimson background (rendered in hex code as #340505, defaced in the centre with a pale-white cross cercelée (rendered as #e5e5e5) charged with an escutcheon, blazoned as Sanguine, a dragon rampant Argent within a bordure Sable (Drachenstein). Four fleurs-de-lis, also colored pale-white, are displayed at the corners within a black bordure, pointing inward.

Black, crimson and pale-white (the so-called „Nemedian tricolor“ adopted by revolutionary nationalists and liberals discontent with the post-Oscarine status quo) themselves pose little essential meaning; esoterically, these were taken to symbolize the darkness, blood and death (as in the case of Angvar's, except it is only black and crimson). Up until 1368 the original Drachenstein coat of arms simply consists of a dragon in a crimson field surrounded by a black bordure; the black cross was later added in 1712, the four fleurs de lis in 1617, and the cross cercelée in 1726. Variants show the Drachenstein shield crowned with an elector's cap, indicating that the Archdukes of Dracunia were electors in the Holy Nemedian Empire until its dissolution in 1851, as well as the post-electorate variant in which the shield is crowned with the Imperial State Crown of Dracunia, replacing the earlier elector's cap and indicating the Drachenstein Monarchy's elevation into an empire. The dragon was previously colored black until 1816—the Dracunian flag displaying a black dragon is used during wartime. The four fleurs-de-lis, while a holdover from its Aquilonian conquests, have an intrinsically-religious symbolism to them—they represent the Four Holy Wounds of Attrition, Contrition, Compunction and Abnegation in the religion of Catheric Keanuism."

"The first flag used by the Crown Colony of East Plate was the British Union Flag, which was used solely until 1858 with the passage of the East Plate Constitution Act in the British Parliament in London. Until that moment, the colony also used the British Royal Coat of Arms as its coat of arms. With the creation of the new constitution of the colony, the local government was granted the right to create its own flag and coat of arms, with the General Assembly adopting the "National Identity Act 1858" just two months after the creation of the constitution. With it, the National Flag was born, depicting the Union Flag on its canton, five blue stripes and four white ones, which represented the nine constituent entities of the colony. At the time, the design created some controversy, as the flag vaguely resembled the one of the United States of America."

"GRAND AMERICAN FLAG (1938 - Present)

This concentric 50-star flag became the official American flag on July 4th, 1938. Officially as the "1938 Victory Flag" or simply known as the "Grand American Flag".

After the federal government's victory in the 2nd American Civil War on March 17, 1938, a new flag design was created instead of reverting back to the pre-2nd American Civil War flag design variant. This new flag is to use the traditional circle-star style used by the founding fathers and was also heavily inspired by the 1st American Civil War flag design. The flag was created as requested by FDR to commemorate the victory in the civil war.

The flag is to feature 50 stars, with the United States coat of arms added in the middle colored in gold with an additional singular star at the top of the coat of arms indicating the whole nation, that is, the United States, designed using a redesigned concentric star-style variant.

The flag has since been officially in use."

"Greater Marine’s flag has 9 stripes, 5 of blue and 4 of red, and a white canton with 30 stars in 3 concentric rings of 12, 12 and 6 stars respectively. The colour blue represents the ocean, which the country depends on for commerce, resources and food. Blue was also the associated with the democratic revolution of 1890, in which it represented loyalty to the nation’s democratic ideals. The red represents the people who died in the revolution, as well as representing bravery and power, whilst the white of the canton represents peace, unity and democracy. The 30 stars represent the 30 federal commonwealths of the nation, whilst their gold colour was chosen to represent prosperity.

The flag has 9 stripes to represent the 9 leaders of the revolution. The flag originally lacked stars, however, after the country was federalised in 2023, the flag was altered to reflect this new political structure. However, the original version, without stars was the the 1890 blue revolution, and has been continuously used since."

"The flag of The Great Nevada Overlord was adopted in 1840 to commemorate the fall of the Confederation of Timbisha.

It's sun represents the beating sun over the Mojave desert, the three sun rays represent strength, sovereignty, and prosperity. The blue represents the three main rivers of Nevada, the Colorado River, the Humboldt River, and the Mead River."

"In 1947, they adopted a flag during the Japanese split of the Nauitian Archipelago. However, because there were 2 Naui Tu countries, they decided who gets the flag first. However, instead of having the same flag, the United States of Naui Tu adopted this flag as the national flag for the original 12 states that belonged to the United States. The Democratic States of Naui Tu used a flag with more stars. When it unioned in November 9, 1945, they continued the decision. However, an agreement by the Democratic State regional group in the current Republic of Naui Tu agreed to use the 12-star flag rather the 25-star flag to keep its traditions. The current 12-star flag is still used today, while the 25-star flag is used for miscellaneous purposes."

"The national flag is known as "Crazy Diamond;" the flag denotes an example of the species that were originally native to The Onigiri Enclave, the Fabulous Onigiri, before emigrates & settlers fleeing westward away from internal strife in Fishy Apples in 664 AD came to the area. They are still a rather ubiquitous part of the homogeny of species that make up The Onigiri Enclave, being the second-most common species in the nation out of dozens, even if they were dwarfed over time by the growth of the human population."

"Our esteemed leader, His Eminence Herroph IV, created above flag for the nation of Relmont. In truth, it was established because our esteemed leader greatly enjoyed the color green. He'd have flown a green box, if not for us stepping in and forcing him to add the white-and-black detail to the right of the banner. I like to call that the "Fangs of Relmont," but our esteemed leader finds the name "stupid and unfit for legal documents." If it is between you and I, I do not believe he appreciates the "Fangs of Relmont" addition to the banner."

"Popularly known as "Vor Ryskhlun dav Ronjao" ("The Blood and Bronze") by the citizens of Rhanukhan, the State Banner has proudly flown over the country since the reign of Domina Joan "the Bloody", who established the Khunate Dynasty in the year 920AU, though its origins lie much farther back in the past, before the beginnings of the Unification itself.

Ascending to the throne during the century of conflict with the warlords of Nohvala, Joan sought a symbol that would inspire the Rhanukhani people in this age of strife. When it came to choosing the heraldry for her new dynasty, Joan turned to her own legendary ancestors, Meortarik and Selkhi.

Long before the Pretakhoni Empire spread into the Holodlhessi Lowlands, inspiring Stephannos of the Rhanukhii to forge the alliances that would ultimately lead to the modern Unified Provinces, the Central Rhanukhani Plains were home to a number of disparate tribes. One such tribe was named the Khuna - a fearsome people who worshipped the war god, Bruspanah the Unyielding, and famed for their martial prowess. At one time, their chieftain was Meortarik, a warrior of great renown (indeed, his very name is now the modern Rhanukhani word for "warrior").

As was often the way, the Khuna were at war, this time with a tribe from the north, in the region of modern Benbhallan, who sought to take over the Khuna territory.

Wielding a mighty two-handed sword, Meortarik would always fight in the traditional Khunate manner, unarmoured (alike Bruspanah himself), only ever advancing, with his loyal burrowing octopus, Havertgurlim, at his feet and his beloved wife, Selkhi, protecting his back with his great bronze shield.

Image
Relief sculpture depicting Meortarik, Selkhi and Havertgurlim, discovered in temple ruins in Khun province. Estimated to date from c. 850BU, the story of Meortarik and Selkhi was likely already centuries old at the time of carving.

The Khuna fought valiantly, as ever, but the Benbhallani had the superior numbers and had slowly forced their way further and further down the Khunate River. It was at the height of the final battle on the Golden Field, at the very heart of the Khuna lands, that Meortarik would meet his doom.

The overwhelming numbers meant nothing to Meortarik - he stepped forward, slaying enemies with every swing of his mighty two-handed sword, Selkhi nimbly blocking any incoming attacks, while Havertgurlim distracted and disabled foes with the coils of his many arms. They fought flawlessly as one, as unyielding as Bruspanah himself.

It was only when a slinger's rock knocked Selkhi off her feet that Meortarik realised how far into the enemy lines he'd advanced. A Benbhallani fighter seized this opportunity, lunging forward with his spear. Parrying this attack with his sword, Meortarik had left himself open to a second thrusting spear in the hands of Atzulida - a great champion of the Benbhallani. Without Selkhi there to block the strike with his shield, he had no hope of avoiding the blow...

Instead, Havertgurlim sprang! Protecting his master by lashing his eight arms around Atzulida's spear, deflecting the killing blow into his own body. Enraged by the loss of this most loyal companion, Meortarik plunged his sword into the surprised Atzulida's chest, slaying him instantly. Alas, in his mighty rage, he had thrust too strongly. Bruspanah is a harsh and fickle god, any fault is punished swiftly and, in the moments it took Meortarik to pull his blade free again, a third Benbhallani spear found its mark. Selkhi regained her feet only in time to see her beloved husband fall.

Selkhi was of the Khuna, a daughter of warriors, and grief would come later - in this moment there could only be vengeance. Several of her fellow Khuna had reached their fallen chief's position by now and were forcing the Benbhallani back. With her bare hands, she mixed Meortarik's red blood with the blue blood of Havertgurlim, that they would be ever united by her side in battle, and streaked it across her fallen husband’s bronze shield. Hoisting this new totem aloft, she declared to the Khuna warriors that, though her husband’s body may have fallen, his spirit was still aflame with the righteous desire to vanquish their foes and, should theirs be likewise afire, then now was the time to follow their mighty chieftain in one final charge. She didn’t even wait for their response, simply turning and madly rushing the enemy, the bloody shield, blazing in the light of the setting sun, held before her. By the time she reached their lines, every one of her fellow Khuna warriors was by her side, weapons flashing, hollering vengeance for Meortarik. In spite of their superior numbers, the Benbhallani crumpled under this renewed assault - by nightfall they were either slain or fleeing back up the river to their own land.

If not Bruspanah, then perhaps his mother, Ahnah herself, must have been well-pleased with the outcome of events. If you look up into the night sky you'll see the constellation known as "Three Triumphant" representing a warrior, his wife, and their burrowing octopus, ensuring that none will forget these legendary champions of old.

As with many tales from the Age of Myth, it is impossible to discern the historicity of the account, but the story is well-loved and has survived for centuries, passed down orally through generations before entering the written record.

Leading the country in a war herself, Domina Joan naturally saw the value of associating herself with such a legendary figure as Selkhi and thus chose the colours purple, representing the mixed blood of Meortarik and Havertgurlim, and orange, representing the bronze of the shield, for her heraldry. The octopus had been a totem of the ancient Rhanukhii tribe since their arrival millennia ago in the lands that still bear their name today and has long been widely beloved of the Rhanukhani people - it was the obvious choice for the banner’s central charge.

Sadly, Domina Joan didn’t live to see the end of the war - her son, Dominus William I "the Peacebringer" being the one to negotiate Nohvala’s surrender and the northern lands’ entry into the Unified Provinces - but she was well remembered by later Rhanukhanis and her banner flies to this day all across the nation."

"The current version of the Rhodeve national flag was adopted in 1847. A new flag was in the process of being chosen since the start of the Rhodeve Kingdom, after the collapse of the republic and empire in 1845. The first king of Rhodevus, Ruby Machin, had been pushing for Big Red as his choice for the national flag. He died two years into his reign in 1847. The Big Red flag was chosen in his honour, and the golden eagle was named after him. The flag is also often called 'Old Baldy' in honour of the golden eagle's name and king Rubin's famous nickname.

Suffice it to say, the golden eagle on the flag is more well-known than the Rhodeve flag itself, as it is more common to find pins, patches, merchandise and others to solely have the eagle, rather than the whole flag. This also includes military patches on uniforms, and official Rhodeve documentation and reports.

Symbols

The golden eagle: the national animal of Rhodevus (also nicknamed Old Baldy, after the first King of Rhodevus)
The overlapping white, black and blue triangles: The Triarchy System of Rhodevus (English and French colonizers (black and blue respectively) and the native peoples (white))
The setting sun: represents the setting down of old ways (regarding imperialism)

Colours

Red: national colour of Rhodevus, represents the native saying: "red skies, clear breezes and joyful springs" regarding fair weather conditions on the seas/oceans around Rhodevus
Gold: The richness of wealth in the nation (misconception that it's regarding material wealth like gold, when it's actually referring to fish)
Blue: French Speakers
Black: English Speakers
White: Native People"

"The area of blue and white waves represent a stormy sea, the dark and light grey a stormy sky. They represent the constant inclement weather we experience, and in a less overt sense the tumultuous journey, both literal and figurative, we endured to arrive and survive in our new land.
The blue circle represents egalitarian equality; the red star, which evolved from a stylized fox head, represents intelligence and guile. Both symbols were the insignia of two underground science organizations that escaped persecution by resurgent religious authorities in an alternate 16th century England where the Church clamped down of the Enlightenment. The gold border represents the strength and unity of our people.
The insignia's placement above and apart from the the sea and the storm represents the dispassion and integrity of science and the superiority of our way of life in the midst of the undisciplined chaos of outsider nations.

It was designed by an art student, Petrovka Schillinger, a 19 year old graphic design major, as her entry in a contest sponsored by the Council of Sciencemasters in the early Sixties to replace a more ornate, excessive, and baroque design. The old design was... interesting. There were tentacles (one reason the flag is still referred to as "Old Squiddy")."

"The Sagrean flag was adopted in 1931 as the official state flag and has been the only state flag since. The flag depicted has a horizontally split plane, colored red above and black below, with an overlaying white cross and a black Guiding Star in the center. The red represents the strength and blood of the Sagrean people, the black represents the hardship and sacrifice Sagreans had to face, and the white represents the unity and stability of the nation. The Guiding Star is the national symbol and the official symbol of the Sagrean doctrine, Khrina. Each point represents a Sagrean value: Unity, Loyalty, Duty, and Prosperity. The cross extends the reach of each point on the star to the edges of the flag, symbolizing the presence of Khrina throughout the entire nation."

"The Peoples Flag Of Saint Monkey
Image

This is the The People's Flag Of Saint Monkey. It was made by a normal citizen in 2018, as Saint Monkey decided to do have a competition to create a new National Flag, as the Flag Of Saint Monkey I was getting used less often by people. This flag won as it Represented the National Colors of Saint Monkey, Yellow, Green and Black, although it had a different shade of green. The Black Represents the night sky, and the difficulties all Monkey Empireans/ Saint Monkeyians had to go through, Yellow, for the Happy things we've gone through and the golden beaches, and the green for the Nature of Saint Monkey.

Saint Monkey I Flag

This was the flag used from 1400-2018. In the 21st century it lost a lot of popularity due to it not being taught in schools in the 20th Century, so Saint Monkey changed it in 2018. They plan to reintroduce it later, as they begin teaching Vexillology again in Schools. Again the colors mean the same, including the Monkeyterianist deception of Saint Monkey I, it is important to note that he was a human, however that's the way Monkeyterianists depict Deities and major figures.

Monkey Empire Flag

This flag was the newly introduced flag of the Monkey Empire. It was unveiled 1st December 2023. It includes the International Monkey Empire Colors, Green, for nature, yellow for the Joy and beaches, Blue for the expanse of seas and white for everyone's souls. The wavy lines signify the waves and that life is not straightforward, and very complicated, It also has the Moon and Star of 68 Suns, which are important in Monkeyterianism."

The pink stands for compassion, niceness, and love."

"The red/vermillion field represents the revolution. The central star casting golden beams of light represents Marksist thought as a source of light which cuts through the darkness of greed, chaos and ignorance. The exact number of beams - 16 - also represents the 16 constituent regions of the Republic. The middle of the star bears a circular shield depicting the insignia of Republic and the Vermillion Vanguard party - a horseshoe and three stalks of wheat. The horseshoe representing manual labor, while the wheat represents agriculture but also the unity of the three pony races, as well as the three elements of the working class - the industrial proletariat, the farmers and the intelligentsia/magi."

"The flag of South Africa is a horizontal bicolour of red and blue with two black isosceles triangles based on the hoist-side and a green pall and a central green band, centred over the partition lines and edged in both white against the red and the blue bands and yellow against the triangles, in which the arms of the pall end at the hoist and embrace the triangles on the hoist-side. The design and colours are a synopsis of principal elements of the country's flag history. The colours themselves have no essential meaning. The only symbolism in the flag is the pall, which symbolises the convergence of diverse elements within South African society, taking the road ahead in unity."

"The flag of South Africa from 1907 to 1961. In the lead-up to the unification of South Africa in 1907, the adoption of a national flag was considered an issue of paramount importance. The country's leaders desired a 'clean' flag design, one that would reflect the unity of English and Afrikaans-speakers, while also avoiding any divisive symbolism or favouritism towards either group. The flag is based on the historical Prinsenvlag, parted by the crosses of St George, St Patrick, and St Andrew (as featured on the flag of the United Kingdom) arranged to resemble a heraldic pall. While the flag's creators set out to design a symbol of national unity, their creation ironically excluded non-white South Africans."

"The Federation’s current flag has been in effect since 1967 when the need to represent all the territories and regions under the SAF’s control. The Modern Federation Act updated many other seals, symbols, and banners to show greater representation of the diversity in the country. The flag bears great resemblance to the Union Jack as a nod to the large English population, a maple leaf to represent the even larger percentage of Canadians, the star for the Confederates, and the four blocks to represent the Cubans and Nicaraguans.

As it is in many other flags; Red is symbolic of bravery and valor, white is symbolic of purity and innocence, and blue is symbolic of vigilance, perseverance, and justice."

"The religous unity flag was only recently brought into use, to calm tensions over the use of a cross on the previous flag.

Both the words allahu akhbar, and the georgian cross are in white, this represents the paece of the two religous groups, the white stripe also represents this.

The blue represents the bright desert sky, and the large yellow field represents the wealth of the peopl"

"The green background represents the ever-present nature in our country, as well as the pristine environment that we have maintained painstakingly throughout the years. We have vowed to protect and favor the environment even if it means to slow down or reduce our economy output. We are proud to have an economy that relies on book publishing (made from sustainable trees, though most of them are now E-books) and Information Technology, with the old technology (such as phones and computers) having a tremendously high recycle rate thanks to a combination of magic and technology.

The heart in the middle represents our love, compassion, and friendliness for one another, with the pink colors strengthening this love to every single person in Valentine Z, regardless of race, language, gender, religion. Our goal is to ensure that each and everyone is treated fairly, and not to leave the weakest links and persons behind in their times of needs. A welfare state that takes care of its people."

"The flag of Vyktoria is described as a vexillologist's fantasy. The chevron succinctly shows the nation's name, while the fire, snow, and desert colors portray Vyktoria's arid tropical climate. Also maroon and gold are ancient heraldic colors of the nation. The flag is also numerically based around the number 313, the foundation date of the nation (31st Early-Fall 0 IC), as the chevron's meeting point is 31.3% from the dexter side, its angle at 31.3 degrees, and its stripes also 3.1% of the flag's width."
