Manager
Didrik Gjedrem
Age: 57
Losing to the Champions in penalties is a hard way to go out of the Finals, but it is a respectable exit once the sting of loss finally does ease. Didrik has taken the Marauders back to contention after a single bad cycle and likely now has the reigns over the national team until he decides that he does not want it anymore. He knows how to manage egos as evidenced by his time at United and now the national team as well as get results when his back is against the wall. All that's left is to actually grab some prominent silverware.

Assistant Manager
Kasper Volheim
Age: 44
After a successful trial run with the recently reinstated U21 national team, Volheim was appointed the assistant manager for the senior team as well with the number of youth players that are in the team and pool at large. Having shown to have the capabilities of managing them at Raynor City United's youth team and being a good go between as an assistant in the Di Bradini Cup, Volheim looks to keep up the success rate at the senior level, helping lead the team to end its trophy drought in the regional championship.

Keepers
GK: Isak Helland, age 31, Aleiusia Capital Image
GK: Günter Obermaier, age 26, Ulsa Image
GK: Mario Unger, age 28, SC Rinaldi
The curtain has closed on Miljeteig and now there is going to be a scramble to try and fill in the void of the number one shirt for the Marauders. Helland has the best chance of doing so, having had Champions League and Challengers Cup experience with his time at Aleiusia Capital but Obermaier is going to be the starter at a bigger club in a traditionally stronger league and that does give them a track towards taking the shirt to. Not to mention any domestic keepers who are able to keep their team from conceding over forty a game, given the offensive nature of the Premiership, which is something Unger at Rinaldi has done. For the moment though, Helland has the number one shirt but the competition will be fierce to keep it.

Defenders
CB: Vårin Løvland, age 31, Mar Sara FC (F)
R/CB: Ralph Winter, age 26, Kitara AA Image
CB: Ulrike Kluge, age 31, SC Rinaldi (F)
CB: Claudia Moench, age 28, Raynor City United (F)
LRCB Pierre Wisniewski, age 26, Herzegovina City FC Image
L/CB Karoline Wellenbrink, age 26, Raynor City United (F)
Defending as a Vanorian is something that need be taught rather than something that comes natural, as the footballing culture of the nation is to play on the attack or at least control the possession of the game to dictate how it is played. Thankfully Vanorian players are usually quick and eager to learn, giving the Marauders a solid enough corps on the defensive side. Winter is perhaps the key piece to the defense, having won numerous top level trophies in their stay at KAA and with the physical presence to be an enforcer if needed. Løvland is a ball playing defender who is a tad undersize but her play in the Premiership shows she is far more than capable of dealing with talented attackers with ease despite her diminutive stature (for a defender). Kluge is a pacy defender who can get forward when needed or track back to cover, though also a tad undersized at five ten. Moench is a solid options off the bench with a proven track record, as is Wellenrink should the side decide to go for a four at the back system. Meanwhile Pierre Wisniewski is a utility belt in the defense but is more comfortable on the left than center, giving the squad a bit of depth and flexibility.

Midfielders
LW: Indra Söderström, age 26, Brinemouth Image (F)
LW: Jaimes Ybarra, age 31, FC Capri
D/MC: Gideon Riemann, age 26, AS Bezieres Image
MC: Götz Konstantin, age 26, Bastion Image
MC: Selim Estrada Barrientos, age 23, Raynor City United
CB/DMC: Matthias Lieven, age 26, Stahlburg City Image
A/MC: Heike Schoß, age 26, Jinja City FC Image (F)
AMC/ST: Laborious Hawk, age 754, Bastion Image
L/RW: Pánfilo Veliz, age 33, FC Capri
AMLR Miriam Troegner, age 26, Stahlburg City Image (F)
While the strikers might get all the glory, it is the strength of a well talented and drilled midfield that the Marauders are able to win their matches, though that is probably in large part thanks to the masterful talent that is Laborious Hawk at the attacking midfielder position. Hawk could probably play anywhere in the midfield or attack but has always slotted in neatly as that link between the midfield and strikers, able to distribute or take the chances himself. Veliz on the right is an aging star, most noted for being the first player born in Sabine and Caddonia to make the national team, although his superb crossing and dribbling makes him still a viable starter on the wing even if he is not likely to be able to track back on defense. Söderström has stiff competition on the left from Ybarra and the two will likely split starts, both exceptional wingers, though Indra is the younger with a bit more pep her in her step, though Ybarra is quite capable in his own right. In the center of the park Riemann is a destroyer through and through, able to drop into a more anchor position when called upon, allowing Schoß to play in a more playmaking role. The depth in the midfield is first class and there is not much of a drop off when substitutions or rotation is made from game to game, demonstrating the clear importance and strength in the middle of the park for the Marauders.

Forwards
ST/LW: Lothas Ludwig, age 26, Crisisbless Image
ST: Jutta Palminger, age 25, FC Capri (F)
ST: Elias Hammer, age 27, Lonngeylin Coast Image
ST: Taina Vääräniemi, age 24, Dí Maozöxê Image (F)
At the top it is the Ludwig show, not that he has the ego to claim it, but he is one of the best strikers in all of the game right now with a brilliant mix of pace, power, and precision to make him a deadly finisher up front. Scoring goals for fun at Felsenkirchen, before his move this summer, and at very important intervals for the national team, he alongside Hawk are probably the only two names you could pen into any starting eleven on any given matchday. Palminger currently has the position of starting alongside him, being an unusual target forward type build after a late growth spurt, though she is deceptively quick for her size. Behind them are a pair of strikers who all play at an big club and as at least rotational starters with goals in them, not much separating the two from one another, though all are quite some ways behind Ludwig in sheer ability as a striker.

Manguele mildly surprises nation by starting seventeen-year-old, probably
"No, really, beat it already. I'll call the mercs if you don't." - Lele Manguele

La Vherderoja manager Lele Manguele has surprised about 20% of the nation by announcing his intentions to hand a starting spot to seventeen-year-old Lêyêló Jáánsêlà on Farfadillis' opening AOCAF Cup match against Gyatso-kai. The takilante will supposedly be playing in his natural position, running himself into the ground in order to allow the rest of the midfield to have more breathing space while also seeking to score goals himself.

"I think he's out of his mind, but what can you do," one player who wished to remain anonymous but won't (it's Fujanej Moloses) said after the announcement. "I thought I'd see the first team before that little brat, but Lele's the manager, not me."

The decision has proven controversial strictly because of the player's relative inexperience, as most football fans across Farfadillis who have watched him agree that he is plenty capable of holding his own at this tsage. Many have described him as the best young player in the country, perhaps second only to Jôs Sürréo, a claim that seems to be backed up by the fact that he has already attracted the attention of multiple S-FPL teams, although Rülândéá Kôstä have been very explicit in their refusal to sell the young midfielder. For his part, Lêyêló has been a steadfast Rülândéá Kôstä supporter from a young age, so it is unlikely he'll force a move, at least for the foreseeable future. All bets are off if he manages to prove himself as his national team tries to do one better than last edition and finally win the AOCAF Cup for the first time in ten editions.

"It's always nice to see someone so young make their NT debut, and I think that with Lêyêló, we won't be disappointed," said a source in the FFFF who also wished to remain anonymous but won't (it's Marcos). "The list of players that made their debut at a similar age is borderline terrifying. Alxíkí, Çídh, Wínrôuge and, well, none other than Xíxì Êns himself."

There's more than meets the eye when it comes to the Rulandese midfielder. Despite his gifted physique—he is tall, strong, fast and has exceptional endurance—he is also very smart both on and off the pitch. At seventeen, he is supposedly quite knowledgeable in physics, most specifically nuclear physics. His father, a high-ranking engineer at Boom! Uranium Mining, has been teaching him advanced chemistry, physics and mathematics since he was "but a wee lad," and he is rumored to be very talented at it. "To be fully honest, I have never cared for football, and nowadays I hate it with a passion," Lêyêló's father told the Ferdullaele Post. "He's wasting his true potential chasing a ball around for an average of about two hours a week. He could be changing Farfadillis, or even the Multiverse. But no, he just has to continue with this silly charade. Whatever." He finally said, crossing his arms and presumably stopping himself from spitting on our esteemed reporter.

"Respectfully, I couldn't give a fuck what my father thinks," Lêyêló told the Post later. "He just doesn't understand. I play because I love it, and I'll continue to play because I love it. It's not about the money, the fame or the prestige. That's something he'll never understand," the takilante said as he shot his father a, quite frankly, extremely disrespectful glance. "Teach your kid some manners, for fuck's sake!" The Ferdullaele Post's reporter told Jáánsêlà's father after seeing this.

The young midfielder's mother has refused to comment on the situation. "Get the media out of my home," she told the Post, before firing at the newspaper's reporting team with what we think, but are not fully sure, were blanks.

When asked about the pressure surrounding the midfielder, Lele Manguele said the following: "Get the fuck off me, I'm at my nana's house for her birthday! Have some fucking respect for my privacy! What? The Jáánsêlà kid? You came all the way here to ask about that? Not the—nevermind. Yeah, he's good. Please get lost already."

Postby 95X » Sat Jul 30, 2022 8:18 pm

In another nation, far away from Atlantian Oceania, a number on a monitor in a dimly-lit secret military command center changed to zero.

"We have finally eradicated the need for all males in our nation!", the woman viewing the monitor blurts out, while the all-woman-staff cheered.

"Excellent news, Sarah Foureleven," a nameless commander replied.

"There are now no males present within our great nation!" Foureleven added.

Meanwhile, in another nation within the NationStates multiverse, a man known as "95X" pulled a coin from his pants pocket in front of a mall fountain, and tossed it in for luck.

"Sir," he was immediately confronted by a security guard, "the water's not deep you're going to need to reach in there and grab that. As soon as you're done, out you go!"

95X returned to his in-character home, a small apartment in a bustling North-American-like city. As he entered he's just in time for a phone call—just who has a land-line these days anyway?

"They have succeeded," the caller informed 95X, who sighed.

"It's unfortunate there was no chance given," 95X said. "They could've simply sent them to a separate land."

"They don't see it that way," the caller reminded him. "They're under the consultation of Sarah Foureleven, who believes males are of no use whatsoever. And now they don't need any of you at all. Not even for population continuation."

There was a pause. It was obvious the caller was a woman, possibly from the same place that Sarah Foureleven was at, that at bare minimum believed males had a place in a society where for whatever reason—technological, biological, whatever—they were no longer needed.

"It's too bad we can't bring back the 95X country," 95X editorialized.

"I'll see what I can do," the caller replied, "but I must go for now," she hurriedly hangs up the phone.

The next day, the woman went to her commander, who also worked with Sarah Foureleven, who was outraged.

"You want to do what? Absolutely not!"

"It still exists on paper," the woman pleaded her case. It was obvious this wasn't a formal meeting, otherwise she'd be disciplined for insubordination. "We could bring back the Country of 95X, let males think they're in charge, when in reality we're the ones pulling the strings!"

"95X is a terrible, terrible idea," Sarah Foureleven interjected. "A male that exists within a different realm that can interact with ours has access to it."

The commander looked to Foureleven and stated, "Foureleven, this isn't your meet—"

"I am above you!" Foureleven reminded the commander. "I just work with you here. One word from me to Her Royal Highness the Queen and you'll be back to directing the sanitation employees!"

The commander gulped. The other woman had another idea.

"If the males were very, dare I use the term, 'femboy'," she made a final plea to Sarah. "You're a citizen of Scottfire now, you don't need to return for any reason."

Sarah almost vetoed the whole thing, when the commander spoke:

"As the commanding officer of this post with powers to approve projects," she turned to the woman, "I authorize your experiment."

She then turned to Sarah Foureleven,

"Sarah Foureleven, you are a very capable Scottfire citizen despite your foreign birth. I hereby declare your service to this command center finished."

This 'command center' didn't quite know they existed within a computer simulation, yet this command center could interface with certain aspects that could only exist within such an environment. The woman adjusted some knobs and switches, and just like that the Country of 95X existed again.
"Hello and welcome to City Stadium here in 95X City for the first 95X Association Football match in decades!" a TV announcer says. "Today, the 95X National Team takes on the Irradiated Dreams National Team!"

Despite the hype and a home game, 95X lost, one to nothing. Going with a roster like its AOCAF roster yet started Campbell Moon at keeper, an opponent literally shot the ball over Moon for that goal.

The second tune-up game took place against similarly-named 95Z at City Stadium, where Haven Cosmicbeat made the scorer's sheet his first time and the first of this campaign—after 95Z had already built a three-goal lead. 95Z won, three to one.

Their third game was the biggest challenge yet, against thousands of opposing fans at Scottfire Stadium against the Scottfire National Team. Held as if it were a formal military event, the Scottfire Military Brass Band, who looked like a grade-school band yet played like an orchestra, performed a twenty-minute national anthem while everyone in attendance—fans, the military, players and team staffs—stood at attention. Scottfire's National Team was managed by someone who looked like a young version of 95X great Xi Foureleven. One would wonder how a manager could be so young yet have such a presence. 95X suffered a crushing five-to-zero defeat, in front of a hundred-thousand that didn't even think 95X had the right to be there. To make matters worse for the 95Xers, they were ushered out of the country before being allowed even a chance at a post-game shower. The author would definitely not have wanted to be anywhere near that team transport at that time!

Game four was a heartbreaking loss to the UwU Warriors. Having previously tied the game at one on a throw-in to Jadyn Pond in the 72nd minute only to fall behind again shortly thereafter, 95X had a final chance for a draw during stoppage time. Dallas Belmont saw time was short and kicked a sky lob to Pond. Staring down a defender, Pond broke ahead with the ball, took a shot, it flew past the goalkeeper for a goal. Or not—officials ruled the shot was taken after stoppage time was over and the final whistle was blown.

Game five was a final in the Kyoto region, a last-minute substitute as the National Team from Emilia the Hero was unavailable last-minute and the 95Xers played X11 instead. Another one-to-nothing loss.

Game six saw a winless team return to City Stadium in 95X City. Playing the Mallrats of 71X, it was a return of sorts for their manager Britny Sierra, who had stories of her own to tell of overcoming one's dreams being crushed and turning things around to become a business magnate in a strange indoor-mall-like nation. The open air City Stadium and gentile breezes of the outside world that came with it led the Mallrats to scurry away with a two-to-nothing win.

Six "preparation" games. Zero wins. Zero draws. Fourteen goals against. A paltry two goals for. This was not a winless team heading in to the AOCAF unready. This was a seasoned team looking for its first win.

What is the current state of Demot football? Well domestically, after a few seasons of being on the outside looking in, Likewell Kirk has once against established themselves as the top team in the domestic league. The transition of the Pride League from a semi-professional league, with the exemption of Likewell Kirk who remained professional the entire time, to a fully professional league has been a rough period for the Blades as their dominance over the domestic game has waned as a result. While they are still the team to beat in the Pride League, teams like Skyhaven FC and Club Demot both have shown that they are starting to heavily benefit from that transition. That transition of course could not have happened without the backing of several foreign groups who pumped just enough money into the local league through various sponsorships and media rights that allowed the league to make the return once more to a fully functioning professional league. Additionally, last season so the instatement of the long awaited Druid Cup, a national cup that all sixty-four teams in the pyramid participate in, which Skyhaven FC won in the inaugural edition.

That success has been mirrored somewhat in the AOCL, regardless of which clubs have been representing the dominion in the regional championship, as in nearly every edition since the champions of the Pride League have began to reenter the competition, they have at least made it through the first round of their entry. While the league is still unable to submit entries into the IFCF competitions, including the Cup Winners' Cup, it has provided a good representation of the league and its gradually increasing quality over the last several seasons with the runs that have been had in the AOCL, making the league worthy of the legacy that came with Likewell Kirk winning one of the early editions of the Globe Cup during the UICA era. That victory will ensure that regardless of whatever comes to pass, the Pride League will always have its mark in the history books when it comes to major international club football, something that can never truly be taken away from it even if that victory and its meaning will have long passed from the consciousness of the modern game.

Internationally, like the clubs that represent the nation, the national team too is barred entry into the most prestigious of the international competitions in the World Cup, but has seen quite the rise in the AOCAF. Perhaps as a result of the domestic talent having generally been improving over the last half decade or so, the Dynamo are now considered to be among the top ten nations in the region once more, though that must come with the huge caveat of the Anaia situation that had occurred with many great former powers in the region no longer flying the Atlantian Oceania flag. Regardless of that, there is a renewed sense of pride in the national team and belief that they may one day soon be able to actually compete with the powers of the region once more for the crown of the best team in the region, even if they are no longer allowed entry into the World Cup. The current team however does seem to be one in a bit of transition, with a few players looking a bit too long in the tooth and a few others too green behind the ears. It shall make the upcoming trip to Valanora all that much more exciting and intriguing, to see if they can pull themselves together and provide good competition and advance into the knockouts once more.

Postby Valanora » Sat Jul 30, 2022 9:10 pm

Seventy-eight thousand screaming fans waited anxiously for the opening whistle of the opening game of the sixty-seventh edition of the AOCAF, which was being cohosted by the southwestern nations of Valanora and Farfadillis. If rumors were to be believes, the Valanora Sporting Council was using the AOCAF as a trial run for a potential bid for one of the near future World Cups, perhaps even the most recent one to be contested. Many of the stadiums in the Empire are in need of some minor repair and upgrades to the amenities that would allow for a good hosting of the tournament and comfort for all the visiting fans of the respective teams and those merely there for the festival of it all. While the nation does routinely host the Di Bradini Cup, it is not quite the same as hosting the World Cup itself, with a significant less amount of visitors who would come to the Empire for the DBC as what one would come likely expect if the nation were to be awarded the hosting rights for one of the upcoming World Cups.

Raynor City was in fine form for a summer afternoon, temperature at roughly eighty degrees with a slight breeze coming from the southeast from the direction of Rinaldi and the coast. The cyan sky dotted here and there with clouds, it was the perfect early afternoon and the region was about to have its crown jewel tournament kick off in one of the most notable members of the region. A few hours later and a few hundred miles to the northeast the other half of the group would kick off when cohosts Farfadillis were also going to open up play, meaning that any chance of the so called "Southwestern Showdown" between the two prominent powers in the southwest of the region could not happen until the Final (or third placed playoff). While the two hosts were bathed in history and excellence, the opening fixture for the Marauders brought them a team fresh into the international scene, as Canadian Dominion was about to have their first official international fixture. Talk about a baptism by fire, playing against one of the nations that is tied for the most titles.

It is a time for potential new rivalries, with Jabal Akhdar also in the group, hosts of the last edition of the regional tournament. The other member of the group is the once very formidable neighbor and rival in Equestria, however their form in the last several years has taken a massive nosedive and they are likely going to be quite embroiled in a battle with the other two members of the group to try and take the other advancing spot from the group. That is assuming of course that the Marauders, currently ranked best team in the region, continues their usual fine form when they are hosting an event and at least makes it out of the group stages, with deep runs and championships often a staple when a tournament does make its way to the elven shores. It all begins in the beautiful and magnificent Raynor City though and in front of all those fans who wait with bated breath to be witness to the Marauders in this opening match. Postby Commonwealth of Baker Park » Sun Jul 31, 2022 1:37 am

Office of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Belle Haven

Hannah Delaney awaited her visitor, reading through a classified CIS briefing report in regards to the topic of the meeting she was about to have with the Ambassador of Græntfjall; the Rushmori nation had suffered a horrific terrorist attack that killed hundreds of citizens, then took a quite provocative stance in statements made in the aftermath concerning Jabal Akhdar, a near neighbor of the Commonwealth's in the region.

Implied in the rhetoric of Prime Minister Kaija Michaelsdóttir were threats of retaliatory action against the Emirate if it did not meet a deadline to turn over the head of the el-Masri group believed to have been responsible.

The CIS had compiled a dossier on that network, as well a range of scenarios the Queendom might undertake. Although Baker Park was not the leadership of the overall AORDO, it did have have responsibility for the region's Special Forces operations and had a very strong doctrine of protecting the territorial integrity of their regional neighbors.

There had been a concern among some of the larger AO nations--Vilita, Banija, Falcana, Equestria as well as Baker Park--that by not objecting to Græntfjall's ongoing campaign of drone incursions into Jabal Akhdar, more strongly, it looked like they were tacitly in agreement with the flimsy national security rationale Háttmark stood behind. There needed to be a more forceful response to violations of established diplomatic protocols between Atlantian Oceania and Rushmore.

Rebecca Schoenlein had spoken with several leaders of the previously mentioned nations and outlined what she intended to have her Foreign Minister convey and none had counseled against the idea; in fact some of them had said they would likely follow suit and all agreed that a meeting of Defense Ministers at AORDO HQ on AO Island was needed as soon as possible.

When the Ambassador arrived Delaney put the orange folder in her top desk drawer and locked it, then shook hands and invited the man sit on a nearby couch.

"I'll try not to take up too much of your time Your Excellency and I preface my remarks by saying while this is not an Official Request for Explanation, it is the Commonwealth's official protest against the repeated airspace violations of Jabal Akhdar and Atlantian Oceania by unmanned drones under the control of the Queendom of Græntfjall. We are also extremely concerned with the threatening language used by the Prime Minister towards Jabal Akhdar and although this not an official pronouncement from the AORDO, it will shortly be that: we will not let any offensive action coming from outside this region to go unanswered. I'm sorry to have put a damper on the relations between our two countries, because we consider you a good friend. But there can be no mistake in anyone's mind that Atlantian Oceania will defend the territorial integrity of its members."

.:: From the ASPN Blog After Thoughts in a Blip ::.
0220 hours, 31 July 2022.2

With the next hockey tournament months away, and Season 3 of the AHL soon to be completed, there won’t be much hockey for me to blog about, or even for my job to have me write about.

But you know what started today?

Yeah. AOCAF. Who doesn’t love AOCAF?

Looking forward to what is arguably the shortest tournament any Avatarian team competes in – just three games in less than a week – is somewhat more enjoyable when you remember that it is simply the beginning of the Campaign Cycle for the Bisons, and soon after AOCAF comes the World Cup, which is then hopefully followed with an invitation to the Cup of Harmony. While the Bisosn did not receive such an invitation last campaign, what they did do was almost qualify for the Tournament Proper for the first time in the Post-Silence Era. With the last qualification having been World Cup 66.

Unfortunately, this one isn’t off to the best start.

For the first matchday earlier, the Bisons drew the perennial defeat against La Vherderoja of Farfadilis. In what is now the sixth meeting between the two teams since The Silence, the Bisons are 0-for-6, and 4-15 on goals scored. Considering the team has been ranked as a +5.0 in style since ASPN began tracking the statistic, it should come as no surprise that The Bisons greatly struggle against such a team. Farf scores fast and scores often, and frankly, I have made quite a bit of money betting on this team whenever they face off against our boys.

Bet with your wallet, not with your soul.

SULTANATE OF OONTAZ DERT LI NG
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

This is the fifteenth time that Oontaz Dert Li Ng will be participating in the AOCAF. Oontaz got through undefeated in the group stage of the Baptism of Fire 61 but was knocked out in the round of 16 by Arioslavia. The nation is a mix of Muslims and Catholics, with the Mohammedans concentrated in the northern part of the country and the Christians living mostly in the southern islands. Despite a turbulent early history which saw both religious groups fighting constant wars and rebellions, by the time Abanhfleft came and established diplomatic relations with the nation in 1921, a general "peace" had settled between the two groups, and today both are content to consider each other as Oontazniks. Despite being a sultanate, the freedom of religion is valued by the nation, although it would be good advice to say that while the Catholics and Christians might be welcoming, even accommodating, to foreigners of strange new religions, the Muslims might not be so welcoming.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Sultanate of Oontaz Dert Li Ng
Demonym: Oontaznik
Nickname: Lions of Sand and Sea
Team colors: Green and white
Style modifier: -2.0 (Defensive this time around)
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Head coach: Faris Feraoun (60 y/o, Oontaz Dert Li Ng)

RB: William Darnell "Willie" ARABEJO 31 y/o, Esteghlal Omidinabad Image

RCB: Halim GUEROUABI 36 y/o, Atletico Bed Deg Image (Copper Cuprum)
Guerouabi's main role is simply to sit in front of the goalkeeper and stop balls from getting through. Long legs and a large body help him achieve this objective easily enough for a defensive-minded team like Atletico Bed Deg and the Sultanate national football team. He can also head balls away in defense or score headers from corner kicks in offense. Also has a history of handballs, so that is one thing an opponent can use to their advantage.

Interview with captain Lukas Meyer in the post-game Delaclav media scrum following Delaclava's 2-1 loss to Kimi-Suomi:

Lukas, can you give us your thoughts on the game?

Yeah, I don't really know what to say. We started slow and never really got out of first gear. It's our first game of the season, no friendlies or anything like that. We wanted better but we didn't get it. It happens.

What about tactically, was there anything that was surprising or wasn't working?

Yeah, they play a five-back formation, which wasn't surprising, we knew it'd be tough to penetrate and the creativity to break through wasn't there. You can't really get through from the middle and then coming in through the wings it was too crowded. Martin Bartoš had that nice goal from long range to start the second half and I think that made them not pack it in as much.

Delaclava's fielding its own inexperienced backline and some miscues led to the two early goals, do you have thoughts on that?

It's growing pains, nerves, all of that. We have faith in them, that's why we put them in these positions to learn from their mistakes and improve. But Cian and Willy are incredibly talented and Mino will be a good influence for them.

Does that maybe speak to, the Phoenixes aren't looking to peak for this tournament?

Of course not. We want to go to World Cups and do some damage there. I would've told you we were in position to contend here, but that's not the main goal. Look, it's no secret that we find it hard to get motivated for this tournament. We go up against a lot of teams, they're not really part of the region and we don't get fired up because there's no rivalry, no story. You look at the World Cup where we play teams like Ko-oren, Poafmersia, Eura, we know we'll be seeing those teams again and again. There's actually pride on the line for us. Here, who cares? Some teams just kind of show up and then they disappear until the next one.

Does that include your opponents tonight?

Yes.

Is there anything that motivates you about this tournament?

I mean, we do want to win games here. But some matchups just get you out of bed in morning. Baker Park, you know we want to win that one. We've had tough losses in the tournament to Banija, Gyatso-kai especially, those are puzzles we've got to solve at some point. I don't know. Losing all the games here sucks though.

How do you improve your AOCAF results, then?

Well, we might not be trying to do that.

Does that mean this might be Delaclava's last AOCAF?

Would Delaclava be making a move to CAFA?

Sonnel?

Is there anything you can tell us?

The DFA's been mulling some options for a while now. That's all I can say. I don't know what their thought process is. I know we want matches that excite us and get us in good form for the World Cup. Whatever that means, I guess we'll all find out next cycle, won't we?

Would you say there was anything positive about tonight's game?

We made it through 90 minutes healthy and we have some things we can work on. As far as losses go, that's a pretty ideal outcome.

The Cordasfjord Daily
Nieminen Scores Two, Game-Winner in NT Debut vs. Romsten

FARFADILLIS - The last few weeks have seen a lot of buzz since Gunnvor Nieminen was named to the North Stars' AOCAF roster, with the expectation being that the usually low-key midfielder, suddenly finding himself the point of a lot of discussion, would start against whichever Pot 4 side got drawn into the group. That team is Romsten, and though a miscommunication led to large portions of the Isles believing the first match to be against Gyatso-Kai, Nieminen trotted out alongside most of the reserve squad to his starting position at LCM for the Cordians come Matchday One. The game started out very badly for the Cordians; the media miscommunication had led the team to review video and prepare for Gyatso-Kai, a decidedly more aggressive side than is Romsten. Thus, an early mistake from Ada Baan on an errant pass to Perry Oosterhuis put Romsten on the attack in the first ten minutes. A high, hard shot from Fabiän Schbófeller hit the crossbar and Erik Glucért cleaned up the rebound for the 1-0 lead. Just a few minutes later, Hejns Gillderlls took advantage of a tentative Cordian back line to drive to the middle and fire a shot high to the left corner, beyond the reach of Jane Hendricks, to double Romsten's lead.

To this point, Nieminen hadn't made a very large impact on the match, but as the team began to wake up to the reality that they were down by two to Romsten of all teams, Nieminen took charge and began to do some damage to the Romsten attack. An intercepted pass here, a perfect challenge there, and Romsten's momentum left them as quickly as they'd taken it. On the latter play, Nieminen stayed on his feet to send a pass up to Dineke Leeuwen, who outran the Romsten back line and fired a pretty easy short-side goal against Jvakym Knuscho to breathe a bit of life back into the North Stars with fifteen minutes still to go in the half. As the clock ticked onwards, Nieminen continued to play hard and break up Romsten's attacks. In the 38th minute, Nieminen took a pass high in the box from Lucas Oers, and with the Romsten backs focused on the strikers and Oers, launched a shot that tucked itself inside the far post to tie the match at two. Halftime came, and few substitutions were made with the Cordians firmly in control of the match and expecting another goal to complete the win. Anton Osterholt went on for Donders, but otherwise the lineup remained the same.

The second half began much as the first ended. The Cordians took control of play early on and did not relent, putting shots on goal that Jvakym Knuscho had a hard time dealing with, though none went in and the score stayed at 2-2 for a while despite the attack. In the 56th, Anton Osterholt picked up a pass from Perry Oosterhuis, faked one of Romsten's backs almost out of the poor man's cleats, and fired an absolute laser into the top right corner, over the head of Knuscho, to give the Cordians a 3-2 lead in very exciting fashion. The celebration didn't last long, though. In the 60th, Jean Admiraal fouled Viktor Geunnars inside the box and Erik Glucert would put the resulting penalty into the back of the net a minute later to send the game right back to being tied. The next twenty minutes saw the Cordians, despite clearly being the better of the two sides, struggle to find holes in Romsten's defense big enough for a solid shot to get through, with Romsten playing absolutely lockdown defense.

This is where Gunnvor Nieminen comes in again. In the 81st minute, he took a pass from Dineke Leeuwen, retreating from a two-on-one against two of Romsten's better defenders, and briefly found himself with plenty of space. He drove quickly towards the net and unleashed a shot that really had no chance of going in, a Romsten player to Nieminen's right blocking off much of the open net while Knuscho stood in the left side. Instead, the hard shot bounced out of Knuscho's hands and Nieminen, ever the hard worker, beat Romsten's back line to the ball and cleaned up the rebound for the biggest goal of his life, at least to this point. The remaining minutes of the match saw Romsten fail to really get going as a revitalized Cordian side broke up every attack and relentlessly turned each on its head, though the North Stars failed to widen the lead. As the final whistle, the Cordian bench flooded onto the field to mob Nieminen, who in one start had scored more goals than many Cordian midfielders scored in twenty, including the game-winner the lifted the Cordians to a big three points. With a win in either of their next two matches, the Cordians sit in a very good position to make the AOCAF knockouts for the first time in history. Next up for the North Stars is Farfadillis, the hosts and favorites to win the group, who play extremely aggressive football. It would be a huge upset to win, but anything is possible, we suppose. Expect to see rubber chickens burning in many a backyard in the Isles as we approach Matchday Two.

Postby Busoga Islands » Sun Jul 31, 2022 1:18 pm

Busogan President, Delbin Kasekende, waking up early in the morning before a national security meeting

These national security meetings that the Busoga Islands had, frankly, were not that interesting. A very small country that did not do a ton on the international stage, nor did they really have any reason to have a bunch of enemies, these meetings were probably the most relaxing part of the President's week. Maybe relaxing is a bit too strong a word- but certainly they didn't give him stress. Hell, they were supposed to happen 3X per week- every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday morning, but the President usually only went to the Thursday one himself. He was the f'ing President- not like anyone was going to fire him for missing a meeting of his own Security Council.

The national security and foreign policy apparatus, understanding how things worked, adjusted to the needs of their President. Everything important made the Thursday meetings- anything super important that was in the Monday or Saturday meetings would be given to the President as part of his morning roundup, which he usually glossed over. This was much better than the times when Banija was pursuing, and briefly had, a nuclear weapon. Paranoia fed the air, as they had meetings four times a week in those days, when President Kasekende attended each and every one.

But ever since that crisis ended, all those years ago(World Cup eighty-freaking-five!), there hasn't really been a ton to worry about. The Busogans quietly supported President Akongo in the three-way Kitaran Civil War, but of course that was over for a while, plus Busoga didn't really have the heft to truly effect things way out in Rushmore. That war over, no crises at home, and the economy booming? Just massive Equestrian investment made Busoga a booming, first-world, and entirely green economy, even with only a population of 12 million. A technological hub, as it was.

But the President's plans for Monday morning underwent a swift change, when on Sunday evening he read about The Græntfjaller Prime Minister's declaration against Jabal Akhdar. He had heard about growing tensions between the nations, and as he read further about it, he saw cause for alarm. Tensions were building- no public statements from JA yet, but surely, the Crown Prince wasn't about to turn over his brother to a government that harbored one of his other brothers, who also happened to claim himself as the rightful ruler of Jabal Akhdar.

Before he went into the meeting, that would have a sypnopsis on Jabal Akhdar, the terrorist situation, and the El-Masri network, he decided to send out a few tweets.

Image @PresidentDelbinKasekende The Islamic Republic of the Busoga Islands condemns the terror attacks in Steinaux, in the heart of the Græntfjaller capitol city. Our religion, as Muslims- no matter Sunni or Shia- is a peaceful one. Terrorizing civilians is not the will of Allah. (1/2)

Image @PresidentDelbinKasekende However, the desire for revenge must not blind us. At the heart of the international order is that territorial sovereignty should be respected, and that applies to Jabal Akhdar. We are not privy to what their Prime Minister intends to do, but we implore them to act with caution and careful consideration before their next move. (2/2)

Small nations, if they want to be heard, must speak loudly. The President double and triple checked, and then- sent it off as he walked into the meeting. Like a teenager sending the girl he liked a text as he headed into class. Busoga was one of the first in AO to speak out publicly here, and the jury remained on whether or not this would get the little ol' Islanders a seat at the table.

SPORTS BRIEF- President's son's long range strike earns the Busoga Islands a point against Milchama

The Busoga Islands has one of the toughest groups at these AOCAFs. A returning 95X, a Milchama nation who went to the World Cup Finals themselves not that long ago, and then, of course, regional giants Vilita & Turori. To get top two in that group would require quite a bit of fortune possibly. But the efforts began with a tight, 1-1 draw against Milchama to open the tournament. Kasekende Jr's long-range goal in the 52nd minute would give the Islanders a 1-0 lead, but it was cancelled out 20 minutes later as a Milchama #9 equalized with a diving header.

Busoga's next match is against 95X, as they try to pursue three points to put themselves right back in the race to make the knockout stages of this tournament.

Let's Try And Do Stuff!

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Sun Jul 31, 2022 2:00 pm

Welcome back to Huuhkajat football and...well, things have changed. Not in terms of personnel, Esko Laaksonen and the formation and the 23 players we all know and love are all still here, but a few things have changed that should make things a bit interesting.
1) We can now have a maximum of 26 players on a squad, which is certainly huge. While we haven't exercised that option this time around, the scouts of the KSJ will be on the lookout back home for players to fill those 3 spots in time for WC92Q - so katso tätä tilaa.
2) We can now use 5 substitutes in a game, at 3 periods. This should allow more of our players a chance to play for the national team, which will certainly help with the 3 new players inbound.
3) A bunch of our players were signed to professional clubs across the world in order to get more game time. 13/23 are now contracted to clubs of all shapes and sizes, competing domestically and in potential ICFC competitions, which should help us maintain our Top 100 status in the WCC.

All of those changes are certainly interesting, but the first opportunity to see them in action will be here at AOCAF67 - dubbed "Eternal Chaos" (Ikuinen Kaaos) as it is being co-hosted by Valanora and Farfadillis. Our first match at Hellgate in Raynor City (or somewhere else, if you prefer) would be up against Delaclava, managed by Boris Ishutin and a team that is certainly respectable amongst the many teams of the world. The first half would be the best start we could've imagined from this tournament as we managed to pressure the Phoenixes attacking mindset through their 3-2-3-2. Both Kimi Airo and Valtteri Nordström would break past Joord Van der Beek to score and when Martin Bartoš pulled one back to start the 2nd, the defensive substitutes came in and we would hold on to the win. It was a complete performance and while this certainly wasn't 5-1, 2-1 certainly isn't something to doubt at all.

Bigger challenges are certain to come, but getting a voitta to start us off is certainly a good way to start us off, Up next, we go to Sabinal Stadium in order to face Baker Parkin Kansainyhteisö - the Commonwealth of Baker Park. A very good football nation, 4 of our players are contracted to clubs over there and that is certainly understandable. Against a team of Baker Park's quality, we know we will be the underdogs...but that doesn't mean we give up at all. NOSTA KUIN HUUHKAJAT!

SCHEDULE/AJOITTAA (Group/Ryhmä D - Valanora)
MD1: vs Delaclava - Hellgate, Raynor City W/V 2-1 (2nd)
MD2: vs Baker Parkin Kansainyhteisö [Commonwealth of Baker Park] - Sabinal Stadium, Sabinal

Chaos Reigns

Chaos reigns in Milchama following what can be only be described as a disappointing World Cup. Of course, chaos always reigns in Farfadallis which means that the Warriors should be right at home in this AOCAF tournament. This is good news for Milchama because despite mediocre to decent success at the World Cup Milchama has never been good in AOCAF. The region's generally higher standard of play, more determined rivalries, and the MFA consistently sending B squads, if they even bother to name a roster at all, has cost the Warriors dearly. The new president of the MFA Tal Mann has said that he's going to start prioritizing regional play because, "it's something that we can realistically win now, unlike the World Cup." While those comments have put him in hot water, and we're deliberately quoting him out of context, means that we should do ok in the AOCAF.

Also, since the failures of the CoH and the World Cup we're blooding in a new squad so that's a thing also.

Without further ado, and totally on time, here's the team.

Coach: Darryl Lamarein - Lamarein was pro in something other than sports, namely an accountant, when he was asked to take over the finances of Mongol FC, then a third division side. After getting the finances in order he also noticed they tended to make more money and play better if they used different tactics with different players. He eventually convinced the GM to let him try that for one game. They won 6-0. They did it the next game, they won 6-2. Lamarein was then made coach of the Mongols where he led them to straight promotions. Then people got angry at him and had him manage the national team assuming that he would get paid for a do nothing job. Then the Isolation ended and now he's doing things. Who knows what's up?

GK: Ishtvan Martin - Now the first string goalie. Good for him!
D: Dollard Foster - Big man who is known for vicious tackling. Also a decent header of the ball.
D: Ittai Witson - Captain. While only 25 has clear leadership abilities and the ability to love which is more important than any singular footballing skill. Also, incredible defensive instincts which is why he's on the team.
D: Dallas Hunter - LB - Shoots to kill. Very aggressive outside back.
M: Leetal Fenet - CM - Really good at picking out a pass to the right player at the right time. Engine of the offensive midfield.
M: Gal Waver - Box to box central midfielder who is known for winning the ball back and recycling it very efficiently.
M: Kelly Filimitov - LM - Lefty dead ball specialist. Also very good at crosses.
F: Colm Interlasskoti - RF - Finally moved from young kid to actual player. He also became a forward at some point. Good for him!
F: Marc K. Floren - Not related to Marc J. Floren despite the name. Greatest finisher in the modern Milchamian league.
F: Holden Flomes - Prototypical back to goal center forward.
F: Marcus Affilianus - Of non-Jewish descent but very good at soccer. This works out for him because it's the latter bit that people in football care about.

Subs:
GK: LaDonte Crenter - Second string. He also occasionally plays left back.
GK: Dani Gal - Not Irish but a wave.
D: George Trois - The third George. Better than the first two Georges
D: Eric ben Red - Known for his complexion as much as his hard tackling.
D: Emmet Abbot - Goes by Earl. Known of his passing out of the back.
M: Amy Cekarn - CM - Defensive mid. Comes in for defensive solidity.
M: Tiam Hotonon - RM - Led the Invading Crusaders to a surprise 2nd place and got himself into the national team picture.
M: Tris Listener - Not a speaker. Nominative determinism would say he should play baseball but he chose soccer and never looked back.
F: Dee Schneider - RF - Fast, tricky, good handles, scores a lot for his club.
F: Peleg Springs - Very fast forward. Known for being all over the place.
F: Ruth Altanan - Being the leading scorer in three different leagues finally put Altanan on the team. She deserves it.
F: Marius McFly - Great crosser of the ball, also surprisingly springy for his height. Watch out for this kid.

Milchama are +3. Do whatever you feel like if you RP first.

BP taking no prisoners
Scott McCrae
The Daily Mail Chief Soccer Writer

The last visit to Longview by a representative soccer team from Baker Park was the semi-final of the most recent DiBradini Cup, where the Junior Bees knocked out the hosts on their way to claiming the title; Angelotic Temple was also the scene of the quarterfinal in DBC 42 that introduced the Commonwealth to their newest, bestest friends and rivals Banija, in the last match played in the dual track NT era.

Day one of the 67th AOCAF Cup was a display of ruthless simplicity in dispatching Wreckeria 5-1 to kick off the defense of the title won in Jabal Akhdar; Isabelle Wiley had two assists on the first three goals that staked BP to a 3-0 lead at half time, as Ben Moorman and Grant Myers scored from open play, sandwiching Hayley Gibson's converted penalty. Freddie Altman made it 4-0 seven minutes into the second half and Manager Jen Prescott took advantage of the expanded substitute rule to give Sam Harrison, April Syzmanski and debutante Edward Ogwumike a run out; Christa Vuckovich replaced Moorman with 25 minutes left and closed out the Baker Park scoreline with a 27 yard direct free kick ten minutes from time to secure the final margin.

The Bees will now face Kimi-Suomi, who surprised Delaclava with a 2-1 victory in the other Group D fixture. Banija were held to a scoreless draw by Tropicorp and Valanora were stunned 1-0 by newcomers Canadian Dominion in the other surprising scorelines on the Vanorian half of the 32 team field.

Usually, before a match against a team that's ranked significantly lower than they are that lies directly before a critical match against a highly ranked rival, a Sarzonian national team manager will give what's often called the "trap match" speech regardless of sport. It's become tradition, and no matter which manager it is, it's usually something similar each time it's given.

Not so Brady Reynolds. He opted not to give "the speech," as he referred to it during the press conference after Sarzonia's 5-1 victory against Al-Tamazgha to open the 67th AOCAF.

"Most of those players out there were my mates," Reynolds said. "I played with most of them. I've heard the speech. Several of them could give the speech without having to think about it." Reynolds pointed to the fact that he respected his team as professionals.

"They're all adults out there," he said. "I expect them to act accordingly. If they don't, then we'll hold them accountable."

The first match of the Brady Reynolds era with him determining which system to employ got off to a fast start despite the greater emphasis his system places on defence as Jake Campos inaugurated it with a hat trick in the first half of play. The Stars ran into the dressing room at halftime up 3-0 and the team pulled out a sombrero lined with gold and placed it on Campos's head for a few moments before putting it in his locker. Then, the team doused him with several bottles of Blue Fox Ale on hand. He was done for the evening as Carly Wilcox entered the match to start the second half opposite Holly Cambrio. Both forwards added a goal and an assist each, and only an 84th minute tally by Al-Tamazgha's main striker prevented a dominant shutout.

Still, it was more than enough to give Reynolds something to harp on in training.

"We lost our concentration," he said. "We can't afford that against the likes of Hapilooper." Reynolds said he would meet personally with defender Charlie King, who will be responsible for shutting down Haps striker Toby Bryson.

"I expect Charlie to have studied Bryson's tendencies," Reynolds said. "We're both going to look at match film, especially of their 4-3 victory over Ft. McKinley."

For one matchday, at least, the Stars are momentarily atop the Group H table on goal differential with a plus-four to the plus-one for the Haps. A victory would go a long way toward ensuring a place in the Round of 16 for the Stars, but even a loss wouldn't necessarily make the road an impossible one.

"We got off to a good start. That's all it is, but it's better than starting 0-1," team captain Clayton Wilson said.

Goalkeeper Carlton Sandt, who made five saves, agreed.

"A good result is a good result," he said.

When asked about the fact the Incorporated Football Federation waited until literally the last possible moment to agree to send the Stars to AOCAF, Sandt demurred.

"I'm not in charge over there," he said. "You better ask them."

King was more direct.

"I was disappointed with the last minute nature of this," he said. "Either send us and give us ample time to get the team together and train or don't send us. They left us in the dark."

Reynolds declined to comment, saying that the discussions about the decision were "way out of my pay scale." Privately, however, he talked with former manager Nathan Hanifer, who was now a colour analyst with SSPN and opened up to what was really going on.

"Look, this is strictly off the record," Reynolds said. He nodded as Hanifer tuned off his recorder. "The Incorporated Football Federation is in talks to stop sending national teams to international competitions period. Baseball's already decided to. I don't think basketball wants to quit, and I think ice hockey may still continue. Lacrosse, you know they've got a streak they're going to want to maintain.

"I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last time you see a Stars national team unless it's perhaps the women's team at a Jenna Raven Cup. Right now, it's looking 60-40 like this is our last run."

The End of Ellis: Part Two

Nathan Ellis’s apartment, Hapilopper City
A few weeks after World Cup 91

Several weeks had passed since Nathan Ellis, the captain of Team Hapilopper in more ways than one, had returned home from Farfadillis, and several weeks had passed since the first of several operations to repair his blown-out left knee. In that period of time had been among the most painful, the most excruciating period of time he had ever encountered. He couldn’t stand, he couldn’t walk, he couldn’t hardly move on his own. The painkillers had been hell, and it seemed like it was either one outcome or another.

Some nights, Nathan would crawl out of bed and roll his way to his bathroom, where the effects of the painkillers were so strong that it would make him physically ill. And he would retch, puking his guts out time and time again until there was nothing to puke out. And then he would sit on the floor, leaning against the cabinet in his bathroom, tears in his eyes, half from the pain and half from the mental anguish. This is what his life had become. He had gone through absolute hell just to stand on his own two feet again, just to walk.

And there were some times where it seemed like the painkillers wouldn’t work one bit. He wouldn’t sleep a wink, because he felt every tear, every rip in his knee and the pain, oh god, god damn it, the pain. Nathan didn’t know what to compare it to, nor could he visualize what it was like… so far beyond anything he had ever encountered.

Having stepped away from the public spotlight, Nathan went totally radio silent. He didn’t want anyone – fans, friends, teammates, coaches, rivals, his enemies – nobody – to see him in this position. He wasn’t taking phone calls, he wasn’t posting on twii.tur, he wasn’t responding to emails, nothing. All anyone ever saw of him was when someone would buy him groceries, or when he would go for treatment at Allison Memorial Hospital in Hapilopper City. And that concerned his teammates.

Chief among them was Ernie Stevenson and Jerold Dickman. Ernie, now long-since retired and now dealing with raising two twin children, was concerned that his teammate was in a very dark place. So too was Jerold, who had recently accepted a position with a club in Audioslavia, and was on a break from his playing over in the subregion.

One afternoon, Ernie and Jerold met at Center Street Pub, the popular hideout for Hapilopper’s soccer community, where, over lunch and a couple of beers, they decided that someone had to check on Nathan. If nothing else, it would be a simple welfare check at the least. At most, the two could get Nathan out of his shell, he could go see his friends at Center Street and everyone would know he was OK. Hell, maybe he could stop by Capital Stadium for an HFA match that night between Soldiers and United Hampton Cities.

But that was easier said than done. For starters, both knew how Nathan was. If he was set on doing something, or not doing something, that’s how the outcome was going to be. Also, finding his place wasn’t the easiest thing to do. It wasn’t as if Nathan lived in a real deluxe apartment – he didn’t need one, he felt, and he didn’t want one. The only way, in fact, Ernie knew it was Nathan’s apartment was seeing his Preston Skychief road car, with the pirate sticker on the back of it.

When they got to his door, neither of the two wondered how it was going to turn out. But what the hell, it was worth it, they wanted Nathan to be OK and they wanted to know that he was going to be fine.

“Ellis?” Ernie asked as he knocked on his door. “You there, pal?”

No response. But Ernie could hear the television in the living room.

“Nathan, I know you’re there,” Ernie continued. “Dickman’s here with me. Come on, let’s go to Center Street, get drunk and maybe go to Cap Stadium, what say you?”

Still no response. Inside, Nathan stared down the television, a deadly glare on his face. He didn’t ask for anyone to come over, nor did he want anyone coming over.

“Ellis, if you don’t want to do that, that’s fine, but just give us some kind of response,” Ernie pleaded. “There’s a lot of guys worried about you. We ain’t heard nothing from you lately and we’re worried for you. We love you, man. You’re the reason a lot of us were able to follow our dreams and play against the rest of the world.”

Nathan’s deadly glare softened a bit as he heard his former teammate on the other side of the door. Nathan realized that Ernie wasn’t trying to mock him, he genuinely was concerned for him.

“This wouldn’t have happened without you, Nate,” Ernie continued. “Come on out, man.”

After a little bit of waiting, the door opened, and Nathan, in visible pain, hobbled out, on crutches. His frame looked slighter than his usual, muscular self, the result of his sitting around and not doing much with himself. You could see the fatigue and the pain in his eyes. He wanted to be getting ready for the next AOCAF tournament, getting ready for World Cup 92, getting ready, possibly, for Team Hapilopper crossing that next hump, winning a World Cup match or two, making it to the knockouts and then, who knew?

Instead, he was waiting for his next operation, and not an operation to get back to playing shape, but rather to merely walk again.

“Y’all want to come in?” Nathan asked. “I don’t know if I want to go out like this.”

So Ernie and Jerold did exactly that while Nathan got ready to go out to whatever his two teammates wanted to do. And even the process of getting ready was painful. Hearing the howls of agony from the bedroom, Ernie rushed in to help him out while Jerold browsed through the channels on Nathan’s television. Nathan didn’t know whether to thank Ernie for his help or to angrily shoo him out. But before he could snap at his teammate, he realized why he had come in.

Nathan sat down on his bed and stared out into space for a bit before staring at Ernie.

“Stevenson, I’m not entirely sure what to say,” Nathan said. “I feel like my life has been turned completely upside down, and I wasn’t ready for it. Not even a little bit. I just feel like I need to explain…”

Nathan stopped, then his head hung low. Ernie stood there, not saying anything. He looked back to Jerold, still in the living room, and motioned for him to come over. It was evident that Nathan’s emotions had gotten the better of him and he needed a moment to let it all out. Ernie knew it. He stayed silent, watching his friend go through the roller coaster ride of emotions.

“I just… I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life now,” Nathan said. “I’m 36 years old. I thought I had a few more good years left in me. I didn’t think it would all get taken away from me like this. I know I’ve got a coaching spot with the national team, but, you know…”

“Tell me,” Ernie responded. “What’s on your mind?”

“I don’t know if I could do that coaching spot full time. I just want to be on the pitch, you know, playing,” Nathan muttered. “Playing the game, you know? Not standing off on the sidelines watching others. I just… I don’t know.”

Jerold walked into the room and amid the lengthy, piercing silence, he decided to chime in.

“Ellis, I don’t know how good I am at this, but you’re the reason I still play,” Jerold said. “You went to bat for me. I wasn’t sure I was ever going to get a shot at playing football again and I wasn’t sure I was going to be on a national team again, but you’ve gone to bat for me so many times. You’re like a father that I never had. I don’t know what you want to do, and I guess… I can’t say what you should and shouldn’t do, but… I just wanted to tell you thank you.”

Nathan looked up and through the emotion, smiled. Not many people had told him “thank you” in his life.

“Thank you for giving me my life I wanted,” Jerold continued. “I hope I can see you out there again.”

“I hope we can see you too,” Ernie said. “Nathan, you don’t have to decide today or tomorrow, but I’m sure Dom and Thom would love to know if you want to continue with the national team in some capacity, ideally as Thom’s direct assistant. What you had with Thom and Myrone worked really, really well, and a lot of that was because of you. Now, if you want, we can go to Center Street, get a few brews, or we can go to Cap Stadium, watch the match, or we can leave you alone. It’s up to you.”

“Let’s go to Center Street,” Nathan said.

No Intervention says Ra'am Barak

Head of State for Milchama Ra'am Barak has said that outside intervention in Atlantian Oceanian affairs is a no go no matter who is doing it and for what reasons. Barak responded to reports that Graintfjall has been thinking about invading Jabal Akhdar after an act of terrorism in Graintfjallian territory. Barak further stated that we settle our own regional affairs internally. "From the deserts of Jabal Akhdar to the ice of Quebec, from the isles of Vilita to the whatever is happening in Farfadallis, we protect our own and deal with our own affairs."

Barak's words come on the heels of Milchama finally flexing its regional muscle for the first time post-Isolation as the War Ministry has nominated Yaniv Arieh to become the head general for AORDO following the disappearance and maybe isolation of Siovanija and Teusland. People are expecting that Arieh will soon become the acting head of the ground forces of AORDO after approval comes later this week. Both Barak and Arieh cut strong figures as Arieh said, "Milchama has always been a Warrior People, it's in our name, therefore it is only right that we help lead this region through whatever military problems come up next." Barak furthered up on Arieh's comment telling the assembled that he's proud of Arieh for his work in the Milchamian military and is excited to see what he can do in AORDO.

Milchama have never been big regional actors, even pre-Isolation, much of Gonnenberg's work was making a decentralized unclear system of government work for people as much as possible. Most of the Post-Gonnenbergers did similar things. This combined with the natural combativeness of Milchamians has made it hard to unite around a candidate for regional governance, even in things like AORDO where it would seem natural to have a Milchamian or 5 involved near the top levels. Many in AO have accused Milchama of not living up to their reputation as Warrior Peoples but Arieh and Barak hope that this appointment and the new hopeful influence of Milchama on the regional scene will be a positive one.

For now Barak said that he is working with other leaders of AO to draft a declaration of principles around the current Jabal Akhdar situation and is happy to start leading from the front in AORDO instead of leading from behind.

Allegations of Sportswashing in Banija- Is Capitol City FC's restoration to greatness a feel good story? Or simply a front for some very bad owners?

Image
Capitol City FC fans at a home game in Banija's second tier

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- The concept of a state-owned football club is not foreign to the world. It is, indeed, quite common in many countries (although not Banija), where government authorities own teams. I mean, simply look at all of the political and government(if you could call it that) connections with the clubs in our domestic league partners in Farfadillis. And the concept of foreign ownership of clubs, is quite common. I mean, look in this country- we've got 5 different clubs, owned by non-Banijans. We've even had corporate owned clubs (Fadron Pizza in Busembe). But what is quite rare? Foreign, state-owned clubs.

We can't point to any other examples in the IFCF, actually- they might exist, of course, but the labor shortage means our intern left for an internship that pays. A journalism internship that pays? To the point, however- it is indeed rare. And AOPIC(the Atlantian Oceania Petroleum Investment Corporation), which is the equivalent of PetroBan, is ran by the state of Jabal Akhdar, and controlled by Crown Prince Siddeeqi Ghaazi el-Masri, who deposed his father nearly 8 years prior. Now, it didn't cause much controversy when AOPIC failed to buy S-FPL club the Busembe Timberwolves, and instead bought then third tier club Capitol City FC. State-owned team that promised to flush a ton of cash into the club? Yes, but they weren't even in a national league. Who cared?

Plus, Jabal Akhdar isn't exactly a shining beacon of the free world, but plenty of nations weren't that Banija had close relations with. It wasn't like they were buying Herzegovina City FC, or anything crazy. But Jabal Akhdar picked a good time to buy Capitol City FC. They bought them just as they were on the verge of winning their regional league, and going to the promotion playoffs. Nothing AOPIC could do to improve the team at that point, but fortunately, Capitol City FC was simply up to the task. Winning a two-legged playoff semifinal, and then, in the Promotion Playoff Final, advancing on penalties to the next tier.

Of course, the second tier was won by Aissa United last season. But Capitol City FC weren't messing around. AOPIC sensed an opportunity that this league was there for the taking, and they went for what would have been an unbelievable set of back-to-back promotions. Unfortunately for them, they just missed out on it. But finishing 5th when you were supposed to just barely be avoiding relegation(aka either 17th or 18th) was stunning. And now, with some more signings, they seem the favorites to basically take a 3 year path from the regional leagues all the way to the top-flight- as they are favorites to earn promotion.

But while the Emir's petrodollars seem to be bringing success, it is recent events in the White Winter Queendom that has finally brought this team's ownership under scrutiny. Terrorist attacks in Græntfjall killed hundreds in their capitol city, and Græntfjaller intelligence has compellingly linked these attacks to the cousin of the Crown Prince, Hakim el-Masri. With the Crown Prince so far not turning over his cousin, the chances of hostilities seem to grow by the day. AORDO seems to be rallying behind Jabal Akhdar, as politicians from around the region do not seem keen on allowing Rushmori nations to intervene decisively within AO nations. This, of course, is the same principle Banija ran into during the civil war in Nyowani Kitara, which ultimately forced a humiliating withdrawal on our own end.

Now, this is a sporting magazine. There's a whole host of geo-political repurcussions that could come from this mess, and we certainly don't have anybody on our team who really understands the political situation in Jabal Akhdar to write anything resembling to an educated opinion about it. But none of us were born yesterday- we all know that politics and sports mix. We can write about the team here. Did Banijan authorities, in their bid to sell to the highest bidder, sell the team to state sponsors of terror?

We sent overtures to the RBSA, the Ministry for Culture & Sport, and the team, and none of them had any comment on the situation. Does Hakim el-Masri help with the day to day operations of the team? Does he help run AOPIC, or sit on various boards? Is money from AOPIC going to these terror organizations? Those are questions that we cannot answer today- but those are questions that must be answered, as a cloud will now hang over them as they pursue promotion to one of the most competitive leagues in the multiverse, the Shango-Fogoa Premier League.

AOCAF BRIEF
- Banija had a lackluster 0-0 draw with Tropicorp to open the AOCAFs, with the top two ranked teams in their group splitting the spoils. Pressure reaches the team on Matchday 2, as their opponent, AO's other African nation Mlima Kijani, won 4-1 in a blowout over debutants Sea Dome. Despite that, the Kadongo Kamu open as big favorites over Mlima Kijani, as many experts expect their offense to recover from their game against Tropicorp and put a few past Mlima Kijani.

With Jlinal Cove FC mired in the Declasse Division as they had been for much of their existence, and with the club retaining Koranjo’s rights in the Vilitan League, the player decided to seek an international transfer during the 26th Transfer Window. Koranjo would ultimately sign with Cazadores Cathair after being impressed with the teams performance in the 6th Vilitan Cove Invitational tournament which Cazadores shared a training ground with the Vilita & Turori Under-21 Squad. Koranjo got their Audioslavia based career off to a flying start helping Cazadores Cathair to the National League Title during the 3rd IFCF Cycle and finishing runner up to Istria City in the Atlantian Oceania Champions League. After Colonial Sile failed to qualify for UICA competition in Season 56, the young athlete able to step in anywhere on the field made the switch to Eastal Lunar FC. Katarakhna made their international debut during AOCAF 45 for the Eel-Cat Things but did not commit immediately to playing for Vilita or Turori internationally. After the success of the Cocoabo Squad during World Cup 79 however, the highly touted prospect acceped an invitation to be apart of Vilita's World Cup 80 Qualifying playing pool. The decision would prove to be a good one as Katarakhna was part of Vilita’s World Cup 81 and World Cup 82 championship squads including their first career World Cup Finals goal during the World Cup 82 Quarter Final against Apox. On the domestic side, Katarakhna was a critical member of the squad that elevated Eastal Lunar to complete domestic trifecta over the course of 3 seasons winning the Vilitan Cup during Season 59, the Tropical Trophy for Season 60 and the teams first ever Stellar Division Title during Vilitan League Season 61.

After Almintora’s relegation to the Declasse, Rokopolis jumped ship to return to Vilita and join forces with Jlinal Cove FC, the side that had pipped FC Almintora to avoid relegation. With Jlinal Cove, Rokopolis helped lead the team to the Vilitan Cup Semi-Finals and scored their first career Stellar Division goal against the Kionao Locals. Rokopolis would get the call to the Vilitan National Team during the World Cup 87 Qualification Campaign and would make their debut against Tequilo. Rokopolis scored their first career goal for the National Team in just their second career appearance, netting the fifth goal in a 5-2 rout of Widaya. Earned first international silverware as a member of the Vilita and Turori Under-21 Squad that would win the 50th Di Bradini Cup Title. Despite being part of the Vilitan team that was largely purged following the disasterous World Cup 90 campaign, Rokopolis survived the purge making a switch to the Yeaddin Owls and retaining a spot as a now veteran player on Endur Rotriopii’s Vilita Jungle Rebels for World Cup 91.

Tropicorp began their competitive Footsport program during AOCAF 49 with their first ever match a respectable 0-3 defeat to regional super powers Valanora. The purpose of their participation was to determine if the regional footsport tournament would be a suitable environment for the testing of products such as athletic gear produced by Tropicorp Sports. During AOCAF 50, Tropicorp put out a call amongst a subset of its scientists, researchers and engineers for support on an ongoing project. The project saw Tropicorp scientists, researchers, engineers and other such guinea pigs wearing special fabrics with electronic measuring devices sewn into them in order to aid in their measurements and calculations. The data collected during AOCAF 50 was absolutely invaluable to the project. The experiments were a success and Tropicorp Engineers have been putting the data to the test at Tropicorp locations in Tropicoast and also at a new facility at an undisclosed location, also on Calania. During AOCAF 51, the scientists, researchers and engineers returned to collect some final data points to push them towards the final phase of the project. However, a strange thing happened during AOCAF 51 - the Tropicorp Scientists - perhaps a result of their own detailed research of the game, began not only to be competitive, but to win matches. The Techies actually qualified for the Knockout Rounds and stunned many with their performances until ultimately being knocked out by host and eventual champion nation Valanora.

From there, Tropicorp became a testing ground for the joint Tropicorp-Cocoabo Park led Cocoabo Enrichment and Enhancement Project. The Cocoabo proved to hold their own on the pitch and proved that they were ready for action, seeing action during World Cup 78 Qualifying for Turori and during the XII Olympiad in Novanaya and Vekaiyu - with the Cocoabo team making it all the way to the Olympic final before losing to Darmen and earning the Silver Medal. Until the Cocoabo lift the NS World Cup trophy, however, the work for the scientists and researchers from Tropicorp and Cocoabo Park will not be done. They will continue tweaking, continue training, and continue CEEPing. Now, the focus for the Tropicorp Team is not to perfect the Cocoabo Squad, but to study the makeup of the 'optimum' team - a hybrid Citizen-Cocoabo Roster that could one way or another shape the future of footsport in the Vilitan Cove. This experiment is expected to continue through an entire generation of Cocoabo. While the current generation have made improvements in collaborating on field with Citizen players, they were bred to function as a singular unit. Only with the next generation of Cocoabo is it believed that full, seamless integration between Citizen and Cocoabo players will be possible.

Tropicorp is expected to leverage its citizen players more heavily during AOCAF LXIV due to the fact that the Cocoabo have been exhausted participating in other competitions recently and will soon be off again to participate in the 15th Summer Olympic Games. However, the Cocoabo are still available for selection if required and may look for more action after missing their opportunity to play other regional competitions during this cycle.

Eligibility to compete on Team Tropicorp is defined as follows:
  • Currently Employed by Tropicorp or in Retiree status with Tropicorp
  • Has resided 3+ Years in Vilita, Turori or Tropicoast

Vilitan Defender Moumouni Verre'elali is eligible for Team Tropicorp as a citizen of Vilita and employee of Tropicorp through Tropicorp FC, however the defender has once again been chosen for the Vilita and Turori AOCAF Squad preventing their participation with Team Tropicorp.
