Palmyrion Presents...

A long time into the future, in a galaxy not far, far away...

FROM STARDUST YOU ARE

To stardust you shall return...

Sarah Schachner - Anthropic Universe

Humanity had always wanted to reach for the stars since the dawn of human civilization on Earth, with much mythology and astrology written about the heavenly bodies that for much of human existence has been beyond reach, the heavens a realm reserved only for the gods and the earth a realm to which mortals were shackled. It wasn't until the end of the 1939-1945 Second Civil War that humanity finally started to wriggle about in its earthly chains, finally gaining a semblance of freedom from the earthly realm it was shackled to by the tyranny of gravity.

The perfection of the Alcubierre Drive in 2524 meant that humanity was finally unshackled from its earthly cradle, and thus humanity began staking out its claim in the heavens, for better or for worse. Humanity settled star systems that until now have been reachable only in its dreams and stories, and new nations rose across the freshly-settled planets and star systems.

A long period of peace and growth also meant with it a long period of simmering rivalry and luxurious decadence, and it wasn't long before humanity duked it out for the third time: the Third Human Civil War, from 2794 to 2876. As with any war, there was bound to be only one winner, and the Galtian Empire emerged from the ashes as the victor. It would soon bring to heel the divided masses of humanity under its banner, and under the care of the iron-fisted but mostly benevolent monarchy of House Altis, governing from the opulent metropolitan-state of Arcadia, in the eponymous Galtia System.

For 1,000 years, the Galtian Empire ruled as the most powerful polity in the galaxy, governing large swathes of the Milky Way under tender and loving care - and sometimes by pure discipline and harsh force. Mighty pieces of infrastructure and industry were built to facilitate the transport of public and private goods and services, while rebellions were suppressed swiftly and violently the moment they arose. The various species of sapient races in its realms lived in relative piece and mutual integration, even as threats to the stability of the Empire loomed on from within and from without.

However, just like Rome fell in days to the Visigoths, the Galtian Empire would fall in mere years to a unified front of Nifei clanfleets under the leadership of Fujikawa Katsuyori.

Thus, we kick off the RP that will welcome you to the Niteoverse, an FT roleplay sub-universe brought to you by Palmyrion, and a part of the Palmyroverse. The Niteoverse will star some familiar and iconic names and faces from the Modern Tech roleplaying community, such as Palmyrion as the Interstellar Palmyrian Commonwealth, New Aeyariss (Nifon/Cuscy) as the Nifei clanfleets, Polish Prussian Commonwealth as [role pending], and Reorganisieren Reichregierung as the Shirai Empire, with others roleplaying smaller polities in the Milky Way. People can ask to join via telegramming me in this site or dropping me a Direct Message in Discord (Crimsteel#1086)

For now, this would be a discussion thread as to how the RP would take place, with the IC action to come later down the line once we've booted up the technicals, worked out some kinks, and set the stage for a brand-new FT universe.

Here is an application form for tracking purposes.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
  1. I am the OP, and my word is law. However, to make decision-making more democratic, I'd be putting up a council consisting of Cuscy, PPC, RR, and I.
  2. As much as we want to make things run wild with our imaginations here, at the end of the day the supremacy of physics will still prevail. Concessions can be made for superluminal communications and transportation, such as the plot-centric Alcubierre drive, communications systems based on quantum entanglement, and finally the classic wormhole.
  3. No magic, please.
  4. Keep the use of planetbreakers or Exterminatus-style weapons to a minimum (or just don't use them at all). And please, absolutely no starbreakers.

Name of Polity:
Zagreban Dominate(Later the United Interstellar Republics/the Navarchy of Zagreb)

Race and species:
Mostly human but extremely large alien minorities.

History:
Formerly an independent interstellar polity, now an unruly province of the Galtian Empire, and in the future, a destination for many alien refugees, and a 'third power' hostile to both Shirai and the Commonwealth, yet also a provider of mercenaries to both sides and also an unofficial 'neutral ground' where traders from both polities can do trade in secret, far from the prying eyes of their respective revenue/tax agencies.

Size and significance:
The Zagreban Dominate is situated in an area of vital military importance...to the defense of a fairly quiet area. Thus it possesses well-developed and large naval bases and shipyards, but mostly maintains and produces modest amounts of somewhat outdated ships. It has fairly acceptable resources and a large population.

The United Republics, lead by the Navarchy of Zagreb, on the other hand, will eventually become a 'third power' in the war between the Shirai Empire and the Interstellar Commonwealth -- large enough to hold it's own and tip the balance between the two, but not large enough to indefinitely hold off a determined onslaught by one of the powers(though such an onslaught would lead to that power being exposed to the other). This balancing act has lead to a strong militarist tradition -- many Republics within the UIR restrict the franchise to the military and maintain large active-duty and reserve militaries, and in the UIR in general and Zagreb in particular ensure all spacers and troops are drilled and trained to exacting standards. These skills are often maintained by the personnel in question even after they transition into civilian life -- leading to Zagreb also hosting large mercenary units and corporations.

How do you see your polity interacting with the others?
Once Zagreb breaks off in the collapse of the Galtian Empire it will eventually be intensely hostile to all sides -- as it sees it, the Interstellar Commonwealth is cut from the same cloth as the Galtian Empire. Zagrebans tell a very different story of the old Empire -- not a lost golden-age, but a byzantine, corrupt panopticon state that was at once both capable of immense cruelty and incompetence, and whose collapse was not only inevitable but desirable and necessary. The clanfleets and the Shirai Empire, on the other hand, are viewed as tyrannical, genocidal hegemonies, and like the Interstellar Commonwealth, a 'second Galtia' in the making.

Regardless of the hatred they hold for both major powers, however, there is money to be made from the conflict. UIR, and especially Zagreban mercenaries are commonly found in both polities, with any prejudice held overcome through sheer skill, efficiency, and a reputation for steadfast loyalty to the client so long as they honor the terms of the contract.

Of course, the terms of said contracts almost universally include provisions preventing them from acting against their homeland, and allowing them to return immediately should their home polity come under threat.

IC name is "Blauveldt-Ryszana".

A traumatized, but recovering, MT-Early PMT/FanT constitutional monarchy consisting of a personal and constitutional union of two Realms. Features: near-universal gun ownership, governmental dysfunction, terrified Christinaslander Air National Guard personnel counting down the days until they rotate back home, and an eternal standoff with the last of it's former oppressors.

Name of Polity:
GVC lacks an official name. Common names are "Cult of the Stellar Vanguard"; "Vanguard Star State"; but by far the most common way it is referred to by its myriad inhabitants is "the Cult".

Race and species:
Entirely human.

History:

The nation we know to be the progenitor of the Cult, the People's Federation of Reinkalistan, in the year 2054 A.A. (A.A. being a primitive term used by the civilisations of the day to quantify the historical development since the collapse of some then-ancient civilisation, the name and nature thereof being long lost to our records -- also seen as roughly analogous to the common A.D. - "Anno Domini" - observed in extrauniversal entities and civilisations), unleashed a form of world-ending weapon they called the "atom bomb", "nuclear warhead", &c. We know that these used the destructive potential of atomic nuclei in order to cause relative widespread destruction which effectively annihilated all civilisations previously on the planet. We do not know who ordered the bombings, but we know they were undertaken with the purpose of annihilating all opposition. It is commonly understood that Reinkalistan was prepared for the cataclysm, as the nation persisted through the fire via a series of well-equipped and fortified bunker systems, and, over a process which took nearly a century, established control over the rudimentary societies still left on the home-world.

Its world domination finished a revolution which had been building since 1964 A.A., by which the "People's Federation" itself was established. We know that the new "Cult of the Vanguard" proclaimed in the year 92 N.W.E. ("New World Era", the term still used by contemporary Vanguardist society that marks the total cycles of the Cradle-World experienced since the nuclear cataclysm which heralded our new age) obtained total control over the resources and energy of their star-system, and, over many thousands of years, obtained faster-than-light travel and established a grand, ever-proliferating domain which began to grow of its own accord. In the wake of such sheer distances, even the speeds of faster-than-light travel were incapable of crossing the vast distances involved - journeying from one end of today's Vanguard territory to the opposite would take around a century with the most developed prototype F.T.L. drives we have yet even conceived - and thus considerable authority had to be yielded to local governors. While the core worlds, a few hundred star-systems included, experience frankly immense bounty and prosperity, the vast amount of Vanguard space is managed by those who operate under the relative security of the vast yet similarly-decentralised Vanguard fleets, and yet govern nigh-independently. The price of this independence is taxation in the form of drafted manpower - usually cryogenically frozen for the long journey to the core worlds as to preserve their youth and thus fighting-capabilities - and raw resource yields as a percentage of that harvested. The rest is invested back into the local system or lines the pockets of local leaders who are little more than warlords. Disobedience to the central government's lines will still see you removed from your governorship -- forcefully, if necessary.

Size and significance:

The Cult, were it ever possible to centralise, would probably be titanic and all-powerful by the standards of most civilisations; the sheer resources theoretically under its control would allow it to exponentially increase its technological, military, and economic development at speeds that the galactopolitical climate could probably never even conceive or adjust to.

The keyword here is "would". The three billion stars beneath the cult's 'control' are not an accurate reflection of the central government's power whatsoever, and its ability to project power at all is actually extremely limited. Around ninety-five percent of its 'foreign policy' is actually trying to curb the outward colonial ambitions of its countless peripheral governors, knowing that it is already beyond any reasonable degree of control over the vast majority of its systems beyond the most light and tentative suzerainty. Furthermore, entire stretches of 'Vanguard Space' are merely marked by single automated orbital outposts around the relevant stars or their planets, placed under Vanguard 'control' by default, assuming nobody else is there...

How do you see your polity interacting with the others?

To put it crudely: while shitting bricks. The GVC has not encountered any other civilisations but its own before, and should a peripheral system make contact with an alien society it will send ripples throughout the cult's fabric, and spell disaster for the central government. With foreign masters to side with instead, the governors and proto-states beneath cult rule could tear off the pitifully weak chains which bind them, and a full-scale military incursion would be impossible to fully defend against, in spite of the formidable Vanguard Fleets. As such, the Central Government will go to great lengths not to get involved at all.

The many peripheral governors, of course, will not.

Postby The Uid » Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:11 pm

Name of Polity:
The Uid (lit. “the Ones”)

Race and species:
The Uid - the name is usable for both the species and polity, and the latter is composed entirely of the former. Uid are relatively large, gelatinous creatures with a roughly cylindrical central body, four radially-placed eyes, and a varying number of tentacles surrounding a circular-jawed mouth, composed of overlapping tooth-plates. Exact characteristics, such as size, overall shape, number of tentacles and coloration, can vary considerably between subpopulations, and the rate of speciation is unusually high; this is owed to robust and unusual genetic machinery, which grants the Uid extreme tolerance to ionizing radiation, and in fact exploits its presence to allow for genetic diversification through a combination of accelerated repair cycles, heavy metal ion-conjugated “focusing zones”, and mutational whitelisting against stored sequences. Such workarounds are made necessary by the conditions of their highly irradiated home planet, and their innate inability to sexually reproduce. They communicate with one another largely through complex bioluminescent signaling, and thus generally require two-way computerized speech synthesizers to interact with alien life. Ill-suited to life outside the extreme, hostile environments in which they evolved, they will succumb quickly to explosive decompression if exposed to standard atmospheric pressures - as such, they are practically never seen face-to-face by other sapients without their trademark pressurized exoskeletal armor.

From an outsider’s perspective, the average Uid can be regarded as cynical, emotionally detached, and in many ways profoundly reckless; though irreligious as a rule, the vast majority of Uid ascribe to a philosophical belief system known as the Stumm, which serves to establish societal positions within the cosmos and an individual’s relation to them. It is their belief that the utmost importance must be ascribed to the so-called Stumm Div, the “Beacon Ahead” - an embodiment of change and development of one’s society, the honoring of which is the greatest and most desirable of virtues. The Stumm defines the Uid’s outlook on the universe, and particularly on mortality - it presents a highly pragmatic perspective of death (or rather, meaningful death in the face of progress), amounting to both a lack of personal fear of death, and lack of any real reluctance to inflict it on others in the service of a meaningful cause.

History:
Nebulous in the extreme, most of the Uid’s history is known only to themselves; their general refusal to interact with other sapients in any large-scale capacity has ensured the continued obfuscation of their origins and early development. What is known to the Milky Way at large is the sudden appearance of the Krop system in the outer galactic reaches some time during the early Seiran - while scattered claims of sightings before this point persist, they remain largely unsubstantiated, and much contemporary recordkeeping was lost in the galaxy-wide turmoil. It is assumed, though not necessarily universally believed, that Krop has “wandered” around the Milky Way periphery for several millenia, with no pre-set travel pattern yet discovered. Initial tracking of the system by interested polities was abruptly interrupted in the year 3891 by its apparent disappearance; resurfacing several years later, in a position and on a heading entirely incongruous with anything previously recorded, it remained traceable for just under a decade, before once again vanishing. This pattern of disappearances and reappearances has persisted at irregular intervals ever since, with running theories pointing to either some means of system-scale FTL transit or an equally large-scale means of sensor obfuscation; neither event has yet been directly witnessed or recorded to a satisfactory degree. No non-Uid is known to have ever set foot on any of their planets, or even entered anything approaching system bounds; all of their interactions with the galaxy at large have, to date, taken place by way of emissary fleets, and even those have been scarce.

Size and significance:
A single system, in which only a single planet is properly inhabited. The remainder host populations in orbital habs and surface outpost-networks, but otherwise serve largely as staging points for swathes of entirely unmanned, autonomous infrastructure. The system of Krop is notable for being motile; a stellar thruster coupled to each of its twin stars, backed by a number of smaller, but still comparatively massive thrust-banks for planetary orbital correction, allows for its independent relocation; this mobility is what lends some credence to the claims that the Uid are of extragalactic origin, though where their journey actually began remains unclear. The system is also host to a number of other orbital structures, including dyson-esque energy capture and computing frameworks; aside from the functional benefits they provide in their harnessing of stellar emissions, they also make tracking the system via its stars considerably more difficult.

The Uid’s significance in galactic affairs is minimal, owing largely to their distaste for involving themselves in anything of the sort - that said, they are prolific scientists and designers, and their forays out into the galaxy will likely result in cross-distribution of technologies and weapons that may well be traced back to them.

How do you see your polity interacting with the others?
As rarely and distantly as possible. The Uid are consumed by an innate, species-wide drive to further their own knowledge of the universe and its workings, and treat the presence of other sapient species in it as an undue hassle in the way of their great work - while not overtly hostile to their distant neighbors, they try to avoid them wherever possible, based on a general idea that involving themselves in galactic politics will only lead to further, unnecessary distractions and resource wastage. This being said, the nature of their curiosity requires the Uid to wander far from home, and on occasion into territory where contact is inevitable. Such forays are typically conducted by way of self-sufficient exploration fleets, headed by large, modular vessels that may serve as temporary orbital outposts at locations of interest - these temporary exclaves are far more likely to be positioned near the other galactic powers than Krop itself, and will form the most likely avenues for interaction, as well as what might charitably be called diplomacy. War is seen as an especially prominent resource sink, and thus a general effort will be made to avoid it where possible; the disposition of certain more aggressively xenophobic polities, however, may render this difficult.
The Uid

What's a jellyfish gotta do to get some Stumm-damned science around here?

Name of Polity:
Planning Authority(s), or the Planners for short

Race and species:
Only Humans

History:
A long time ago, 3 superpowers, The Communist, The Fascist, and The Capitalist fought each other in a massive war. The Capitalists won, took control of their home planet, and consolidated power. In this civilization, magic exists but I won't go over the details (they are boring). In short, a Cabal of Psykers inverted the color charges of quarks in a region of space controlled by the Planning Authorities, causing a dimensional rift teleporting them to the Anthropic Universe near the end of the Third Human Civil War, from 2794 to 2876.

Size and significance:
A well-rounded Polity with decent development and military, and controls a medium-sized chunk of territory a bit further away from the main Powerbrokers in the Milky Way. Society is kinda built around perpetuating the rule of Psykers (cyborg space wizards) who uses Mana and technology to bend reality in their favor. The Planning Authority farms Mana from their population and does wacky pseudoscience using Mana. Spacecraft can fold space. Heavy reliance on robots, planets governed by Artificial Intelligence, and is probably some kind of dystopia.

Culture-wise, er, most Plebs under the Planning Authority are too distracted by Gadgets, Fast Fashion, and Endless TV to revolt against Government. Or, at least that's what the Planning Authority tries to maintain.

How do you see your polity interacting with the others?
Maybe at first not bother the Strong Polities or go into any conflicts. Will grind hard for resources and tech, and trade with friendly Polities. Obviously wants to maintain their status quo and will be hostile to anyone trying to change their rule. Likes diplomacy, cultural exchanges, and shiny new artifacts from other Polities.

The Uid and the Vanguard Cult have entered the galaxy. As for Observation Post 13, can we have something to replace the magic portion, please? If not, I'll sadly have to decline your application. (As for not explicitly saying "no magic please", that's on me.)

Might as well do my application.

Name of Polity:
The Interstellar Palmyrian Commonwealth

Race and species:
The vast majority of the IPC's citizen population is comprised of humans, who make 98% of the population. The 2% is spread more-or-less evenly across many sapient alien species, and while their morphologies differ one thing is certain: they are bipedal, and with two hands, with some even resulting from the miscegenation between humans and xenos.

History:
Palmyrion as a socio-cultural entity was forged in the fires of fighting the now-extinct Lardite Cult on Earth, with a socio-cultural historical continuity extending as far back as 400AD. This historical continuity enveloped subjugation and independence, division and unity, discord and tranquil, and lack and plenty. Its first forays into space were as the Royal Commonwealth in the 21st Century, having seriously invested in the management and disposal of orbital junk as well as orbital architectural engineering and permanent off-world habitats. The Royal Commonwealth also helped in the perfection of the Alcubierre Drive, and was one of the first nations to expand its realms beyond the Sol System.

During the Third Human Civil War, the Royal Commonwealth was absorbed into the Galtian Empire as an Imperial Subject. It wasn't the first time it had been subjugated, but it was the longest it had been, becoming the subjects of another nation for 1,000 years. The Palmyrians tried to remain a loyal subject to the Galtian Empire while keeping to their traditions and culture, despite efforts to have their culture "Galtianized" by the Empire. Throughout the Galtian Empire's existence, these Galtianization efforts met serious rebuffs and resistance, with many resistance efforts sometimes outright resulting into rebellions that were quickly and violently extinguished.

The Galtian Empire's fall at the hands of the unified clanfleets under the leadership of Katsuyori provided the perfect opening for the Palmyrians to declare independence, as 144 star systems banded together and ratified the Oath of Adanaxis and prepared their last stand while the Nifei clanfleets swept across the galaxy and mopping up the remains of the fallen Galtian Empire. When the clanfleets took on the Palmyrians, one system after another fell, but each system took with them large swathes of the Nifei horde, with each of the newly-formed Interstellar Commonwealth's systems proving much harder to besiege and conquer than the rest of the Galtian remnants. The killing blow to the clanfleet conquest came with the Last Stand of Adanaxis, with the suicidally heroic actions of the cruisers ICA Pastelis and ICA Farahill against Katsuyori's own ship, leading to the death of Katsuyori and the eventual breakdown of clanfleet unity.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Interstellar Commonwealth rebuilt itself, retaking and restoring the remaining 132 other star systems that were ransacked by the clanfleet rampage, followed by the Wars of Reclamation conquering other star systems and bringing them into the fold of the Interstellar Commonwealth.

The state of the galaxy is now one of a cold war between the Shirai Empire and the Interstellar Commonwealth, with smaller polities at the mercy of both powers vying for larger spheres of influence.

Size and significance:
At over 200 star systems with at least a population of 1 billion, and a thousand more with at least a population of 100 million, the Interstellar Commonwealth is easily one of two superpowers dominating the galaxy today, competing with the Shirai Empire for spheres of influence over the smaller polities of the galaxy. The Interstellar Commonwealth's immense techno-industrial wealth and cultural influence as the closest cultural successor to the Galtian Empire serve as its soft power tools in influencing galactic astropolitics, with hard power provided by the Interstellar Commonwealth Armada serving as the sword and shield of the Interstellar Commonwealth.

How do you see your polity interacting with the others?
it would compete with the Shirai Empire for expansion of their respective spheres of influence, using its wealth and cultural influence to sway various smaller polities into its fold.

Resubmitting after changing some things, shame about the no magic rule tho :(

Unfortunately magic does not exist in the Niteoverse, forcing the Planners out of their comfort zone, into this new, foreign environment.

As the new kid in this intergalactic playground, the Planners quickly aligned themselves with the new victor of the Third Human Civil War, swearing their loyalty to House Altis in exchange for protection and promises of prosperity.

Size and significance:
A well-rounded Polity with decent development and military, and controls a medium-sized chunk of territory a bit further away from the main Powerbrokers in the Milky Way. Society is kinda built around perpetuating the rule of technocratic elites who uses technology to become God amongst man (this is a metaphor for power). The Planning Authority keeps its population happy so everyone can have fun. The Planner's Spacecraft can fold space, are heavily reliant on robots, and have planets governed by Artificial Intelligence. Their society is probably some kind of dystopia.

Name of Polity:
Borrani Inthrag Conglart Alrba (BICA)

Race and species:
Mainly Humans with Other Alien Species

History:
The BICA formerly known as Intra Borrani is the last surviving territory of the Borrani Empire. It was founded in the year 2637 with dozens other territories owned by the Borrani Empire, during the the Third Human Civil War, from 2794 to 2876 the Borrani Empire and it's territory are attacked on all sides and all of them excluding Intra Borrani and it's neighbouring territories Conhart Borrani and Alrpsa Borrani are conquered. As they are located not so far from the Borrani Empire, Intra Borrani and it's neighbouring territories are constantly attacked. In the year 2830, 3 years after the Fall of the Borrani Empire, Intra Borrani, Conhart Borrani and Arlrpa Borrani merged and renamed as Borrani Inthrag Conglart Alrba.

In it's first few years after merging, it is still being pushed back on all sides as they planned to make a defensive line to stop the enemy forces from advancing. In the year 2868, The defensive line has been finished and are successful defended against multiple attacks from the enemy and has stopped them from gaining more grounds until the end of the Third Human Civil War. The defensive line has gained the name of 'Invincible' from both the enemy and citizens of BICA, it also simulteously gave BICA the name 'Fortress Polity' because no enemy forces have penetrated it's defensive line since it's completion. Since then, they have not only focused on upgrading and maintaining the defensive line, but also on their economy, technology and maintaining relations with other polity. As they have no desire to expend their territory, their military are only a for national security and manning the defensive lines as such they are mainly focused on shielding and are a bit behind in firepower.

Size and significance:
A small polity with a powerful defensive line, while the military have have a bit outdated ships but a more advanced shielding technology and are mainly focused and trained on defense. It's economic power are considerably more powerful than other polity of the same size and are regarded as a trading hub for the neighbouring polity. The BICA welcomes everyone to trade or migrate no matter if they are humans or aliens. The BICA are governed by 4 different councils with the highest called Mahrmorn Council containing 12 people called Monnarh which are voted by the Elgdhorn Coucil. The second highest are called Elgdhorn containing 60 people Eldarn which are voted by the Noraban Council. Just keeping tabs on this.
"Furthermore, I submit that Carthage NSG must be destroyed." t. Marcus Porcius Cato

The Democratic Stellar Union (DSU)

Race and species: Sapient species in the DSU _

From the solar system of Violetmoor _

Gorsee -- essentially sapient gorillas

From The Shadow System _

Black spider -- dominant Violetmoori sapient species
Great worm -- minority sapient species (~26% of population)

From the Griffin Collection _

Bushbear -- a race of highly adaptable sapient grizzly bears, who can live in many different environments (desert, forest, snow, ice)

No planet of the Water System is naturally inhabited, instead made up of various different settlers from other planets of the DSU -- primarily bushbears.

History:
The bushbears of the Griffin Collection were the first civilisation of the union to create interstellar travel. They had later found out of the Water System, and had colonised the most inhabitable planet -- Greyholt -- for their own. Later, a message was sent by a warlike, militaristic nation known as "Ordale" from the gorsee of Violetmoor, who had developed radio technology and were attempting to communicate with other species. When communication was established between bushbears and gorsee, Ordalean diplomats were sent to Merriwyn, the original populated planet of the Griffin Collection, and lived with the bushbears for 8 years. Upon their return, more Ordalean citizens, as well as other gorsee, arrived and engaged in war on Merriwyn. Bushbears deployed to Violetmoor's inhabited planet, Junia, and successfully made peace so that the gorsee would withdraw from Merriwyn and each nation would abolish their military. A few years later, diplomatic talks resulted in the establishment of a permanent alliance between Ordale -- now the dominant Junian nation -- and the Griffin Collection/Water System, which later resulted in the formation of the DSU in 2394 as an interstellar government governing Ordale, the Water System, and the Griffin Collection. On Junia, nations themselves also agreed to merge following talks spearheaded by Ordale -- which by then controlled all of Violetmoor -- and the DSU, making the DSU control three solar systems in 2472. The Shadow System also agreed to join the DSU centuries later, in 2981. Since then, all solar systems and civilisations in the DSU have lived in complete peace, sporting no military and only maintaining an AI-run system to automatically defend the union and its planets from armed attack, for centuries, enjoying free travel between the DSU, a beautiful environment, and no poverty or inequality.

Size and significance:
The DSU is a union of four different solar systems, with three originally populated planets in total. However, each solar system now has two or three populated planets in total, with the DSU containing ten populated planets. The total population of the DSU is 30 billion.

How do you see your polity interacting with the others?
The DSU does not sport a military, and will take a peaceful role, such as providing humanitarian assistance, assisting in any diplomatic negotiations, participating in trade -- other than the arms trade -- etc. Tourism from the DSU will also likely occur to various locations not in active war.

This is the same user as The Ice States, but the DSU and TIS maintain completely separate canon.
