Age of Majority varies according to capability of person. For the average person who is not mentally enfeebled, or criminally insane, it can be as early as 14 years of age, if that person has completed their studies to the equivalent of a liberal arts degree, has left their parents domicile, has provided for themselves a viable trade, occupation, or profession (or is continuing their education), and has met their Citizenship requirements-- 0.0002% of the population) -- by filing to be recognized as legally emancipated. It is expected that by the age of 21 most people will de facto qualify (87%). Those who at 35 are otherwise capable but have not attained autonomy for themselves may eventually reach a state of emancipation and thus the age of majority but by this time it is doubtful.

- At age 16, one can have alcoholic beverages purchased for them and drink in private (either in home or at a restaurant)
- At age 17, one can receive their Class M driver's license (A Class M license allows for one to operate a motorcycle)
- At age 18, one can purchase and drink alcoholic beverages in public, purchase and use marijuana products, purchase and use tobacco products, and get married

When a person is 18 years old, they are legally allowed to be independent of their parents and can get a job, start a business and so on (though they have to go through compulsory military training first) but aren't allowed to consume alcohol, aren't allowed to run for office or vote in national elections. Only once they turn 22 can they consume alcohol or run for office. People can only vote if the own property worth over §10,000 (inherited property is legally accepted)

Since we robots are physically "mature" right from the moment of activation, we don't have to wait for brain development in order to begin gaining mental maturity. Because of this, our mental maturity comes much faster than it does for biologicals such as humans, who literally have to *shudder* grow an adult-type brain before they are truly capable of ongoing, adult-level thought.

With that in mind, our standard age of majority is just 5 years old. At this time, a person is responsible for his actions to the full extent of the law. More notably, this is when the first mandatory military conscription stint begins.

It is possible to get declared a legal adult at a younger age, which results in emancipation from the Coder, but also makes them subject to the full penalties of Decepticon law (such a penalty is almost always death). Conscription remains at age 5, but someone who gets declared an adult earlier can voluntarily join as young as age 4 as long as the Military agrees they are ready. Since we have a strong military culture, many try to become legal adults early specifically so they can do this. However, they must pass the Military's own tests in order to actually join, and this is harder than passing the general Sapience Test, which is aimed at how well someone can handle non-military life.

To become a legal adult before the usual age, a young Decepticon must pass the full Sapience Test at the local Debugging Center. This exam tests the subject's ability to make his own decisions, understand the ramifications of his actions, and to act without falling back on any pre-programmed code (besides the instincts that are meant to be retained into adulthood). The actions tested do involve fighting simulations since one of the strongest pre-sapience programs in a Decepticon is the Automatic Self-Defense Routine, and one who cannot fight without having it kick in on them is NOT an adult even if all other sapience factors are present. However, all other aspects of sapience are tested, as well.

Other than the ability to voluntarily join the Military early - an act which has a minimum age of 4, regardless of sapience - we have no legal limitations on what a person can do at a specific age. However, almost no raid gangs will work with kids, nor will employers hire them. Therefore, minors have limited options in what they can actually do, at least when it comes to earning money. This frustrates some, but with such a short childhood, it isn't too bad.

The age of adulthood is 18 years old, however, a child 13 or older may be permitted certain rights such as having a learner's permit for driving or smoking a cigarette depending on provincial laws. Keep in mind though, that Federal law prohibits minors under 18 from smoking cigarettes, so while it may be legal for a youth to smoke according to local laws, it is still a federal crime.

The Age of Majority in Cheatum Howe is 18; however exceptions can be made in the case of an oaths of blood fealty but under no circumstances shall legal adulthood be granted to any under the age of 14.

From what little is known of changelings, most changeling Queens make their children wait until they are at least 5 before they can go out alone, and in this time they are taught the basics of the Changeling Way.
