If not, it's be best to nominate DeX as a normal moderator.

I don't know, its only my opinion. But I think they would be good as moderator.

We're looking for Technical Moderators at the moment. Given our Moderator staffing levels at present are pretty much sufficient, and whoever we bring on as a result of this announcement will initially be a Moderator, there's unlikely to be scope to add non-Technical focused Moderators at present.

Alas, no, I'm not applying, been a while since I wrked webdev, more in tech support and gametesting that take most free time and have own forum groups to moderate on say steam. when a student, you have lots of free time. but when working full-time free time become a luxury. I gather one of requirements would be activity/time.

Perl seems to be rather underappreciated, to be honest.

It's not that it's necessarily bad, it's just that it's not used. There are less people who will know it, and less people who will use it. And that problem only compounds as time goes on.

I'd apply, but really, I have no clue how Perl works. ~~And they need somebody who knows Perl now, not somebody who can quickly learn it.~~ Sedge corrected me on that, so that's out the window. Thankfully, according to [v], there are plenty of applications, so NS' massive userbase is a plus here.

That's not correct. We're willing to consider people with the willingness and capability to learn Perl quickly.

We've had 29 proper applications/nominations so far. The Mod team have completed their review of them, and passed recommendations on to the Admin team. As Violet said earlier in the thread, there have been some excellent candidates so far.

We'll continue to review any further applications that come in - we're not closing the process at present.

Not sure what you are saying. The site was built with Perl. It’s desirable a person knows it or is willing to learn it. As in my case, it would be a refresher as I had not used it in awhile……

In case anyone was worried we'd get stuck at the "admin review" stage, that's not the case - we're continuing to make progress. We've got a shortlist, and are just starting to make some initial contact with a few of the applicants. Others may yet be contacted in the future too, as our reviews progress.

No timescales or numbers yet, but I am hopeful we could get several new staff members out of this, and soon.

Small update: a shortlist of 8 people have been contacted. That doesn't mean we're expecting to appoint 8 people, or that others who have not yet been contacted won't be at some point in the future.

Some updates on this:

Contact is ongoing with the last few from our shortlist. Due to an email or two getting caught by junk filters, plus RL circumstances, things got slowed down a little here, but we're hoping to have this stage finished soon.
No decisions have yet been made on who/how many people we are adding to the team, but it looks likely there will be several people added.
At this point, we won't be following up further with any of the other applicants who we haven't already contacted. There were a lot of really strong applications, and I'd like to thank everyone who applied - there may be other opportunities further down the line.
We are closing for new applications at this point.
No decision has yet been taken on whether we might look for applications again at some other point in the future.

Depending on how things go with our last couple on the shortlist, I'm hopeful we'll have decisions and an announcement next week - but don't hold me to that.

If it's not too late I wouldn't mind throwing my hat into the arena. Is there somewhere I can throw my CV at for its review? I currently work as a Senior Network Engineer and Construction Project Manager for Frontier Communications, and I might be of some use. If it's too late for consideration that's fine, just thought I should ask!

It is too late for this round, unfortunately - we're in the process of making final decisions on the shortlist, and admin has said they won't consider further applications for now.

You could submit a GHR with an application which we can file for whenever we're next looking for people.
