The map is still in Alpha stage at the moment and, as such, will be under constant revision for graphical bugs/mistakes. If you notice any, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Admin team!

Welcome to the Cartography Thread! Here players will be able to make their initial territory claims for the realms, raise and order units through the Tactical Map and build Improvements through the Economic Map. If you haven't already, we would highly recommend that you check out our guides to Warfare and the Economy in the Sklerdras Project (otherwise this won't make much sense to you!). If you're familiar with the rules, however, we can get right into how to claim your starting territory.

Each realm may claim up to twelve unoccupied provinces to begin with in their first post, they also get to choose their Starting Bonus. These are special bonus' that your realm will benefit from thought the entirety of its existance be warned, however, once chosen the Bonus cannot be changed. The following Starting Bonus's are currently available to choose from:











Name:Description:Effect:Special Conditions
Nomadic LifestyleThese mighty steppe warriors have long mastered the art of mounted warfare, though the ways of settled folk mean little if nothing to them.
  • Cavalry units require 50% less upkeep
  • Cavalry only armies gain an extra point of movement
  • Skirmisher Cav has a bonus +5 PR
  • A realms starting territory must be 80% steppe to qualify for this Bonus
  • Nomads cannot build improvements, but can benefit from conquered ones
Marching StateEither as the result of some calamitous tragedy, some irresistible wanderlust or a myriad of other reasons this realm exists entirely in the body of its soldery and their attendants. Their only hope of survival is to endlessly march onwards to their destiny.
  • All units require 75% less upkeep and 50% less to raise
  • All armies gain a bonus 1 Action Point
  • Player starts with 100 Food, Wealth, Iron and Timber to build an army
  • The player can not pick starting territory, nor can they conquer any provinces, while remaining a Marching State
  • Should they choose to ‘settle’ (by occupying territory) they become the following: Adventurer Realm- All units require 25% less upkeep and cost 10% less to raise
Urban SocietyThe people of this realm are well accustomed to the sprawl, noise and filth of cities, some even go as far as to consider them homely.
  • Realm starts with a free Major City improvement that can be placed when claiming starting territory
  • Major and Minor City Improvements require 50% less upkeep

Marcher LordsThe nobility and elites of this realm have long sought enjoyed the privilege of raising their own stalwart fortifications and indulging their martial ambitions. As a result this realm has no shortage of strongholds to shelter in.
  • Every Province in this realm gets a +15 defence bonus when resolving battles for it's owner
  • All units cost 20% less upkeep when present in owned provinces (occupied does not count)
  • Leaders cost 25% less upkeep

Bureaucratic TraditionsBureaucracy is less of a necessity and more of a way of life for the people of this realm. Efficient record keeping and a penchant for pedantry being valued above near all else.
  • All Special Resources and Improvements provide a +1 resource bonus
  • Cities provide an additional 10% bonus to adjacent resources

Militant PeasantryThe peasants of this realm are unusually militaristic in their practices and behaviours. Even more unusual is that they appear to be wiling to use these talents on behalf of their overlords.
  • Levy units cost 50% less maintenance
  • Levy units gain +1 PR
  • Levy units gain one additional health block

Corvée en MasseThe rulers of this Realm tend to take their tributes in labour rather than kind, sometimes devoting whole communities to the pursuit of a single grand project.
  • Improvements cost 50% less to raise.

Merchant StateCommerce is King for the denizens of this realm and trade is the order of the day. Their ships and caravans range both near and far in the pursuit of profit and they always seem to come off a little better than their partners.
  • Realm starts with a free Minor City improvement that can be places when claiming starting territory
  • +10% wealth from controlled city improvements
  • Can establish diplomatic contact from up to 4 sea regions or 14 provinces away

We Do Not SowWhy labour endlessly in barren fields and thankless quarries for scraps when you can simply take from your decadent neighbours? It is this question that forms the basis of this entire society. They reeve far and near striking terror into the hearts of their enemies before disappearing like ghosts. Offend them at your peril.
  • Gain a bonus +1 resources when raiding
  • Embarking/disembarking does not require an Action Point
  • Ships require 25% less upkeep
  • A realm's starting territory must be at least 80% continental to qualify for this Bonus
Warrior EliteThe upper castes of this society consider combat to be the highest of all pursuits and as such dedicate themselves almost entirely to the blade and bow. Such a dedicated group are always willing to prove themselves on the battlefield.
  • Elite and Professional units cost 15% less upkeep
  • Elite Units cost 20% less to raise

Thalassocratic StateThe inhabitants of this realm have always been more shore footed on the sea than the land. These masters of shipcraft produce some of the most effective ships in the world and aren't afraid to let their rivals know about it.
  • All naval units gain +15 PR
  • Naval units cost 50% less upkeep.
  • Disembarking does not cost an Action Point
  • A realm's starting territory must be at least 50% coastal to qualify for this Bonus


From the moment said claim is accepted, the player may start their turn and collect their starting resources. All subsequent posts in this thread must be prefaced by an up to date version of the following:

Raise a skirmisher cavalry unit on the blue banner, and a levy infantry on the red banner. Move them as per arrows indicating. Cavalry uses quick march for 1 AP
