As written by Kalosia for WHF26: The host (Beepee) reserves the right to make alterations to your RP when copying it over to the IC thread. However, these alterations will be limited to cleaning up the formatting as well as adding (not deleting) RP regarding the situation in the arena (i.e. how the audience reacted). Substantial/major alterations will not be made without written permission, and any further changes to an entry within the IC thread will only be done upon written request by the user behind it, and with host discretion. This also includes audience reactions at the end of the entry...

Helping Your Host: I will use a uniform formatting for everybody's entry just like it has been done in previous edition. I would appreciate if you could keep your formatting of your entry very simple (just text and the 'BOX' tag would be fantastic, no need for colours, bold, italics and underlining - unless they are keys or backing singers etc). You can align everything to the center if you want to keep in neat, but I would be very appreciate if you keep it in a minimalist way.

PLEASE LEAVE TRANSLATIONS AT THE END OF YOUR POST UNDER A SINGLE SPOILER. Not doing so incredibly slows down the process of making all entries uniform. It really does.

WIP Entries: It would also help a lot if you put a "WIP" or Work In Progress sign somewhere obvious, preferably in the subject or at the top of your post if you don't want me to notice that as finished. All completed entries will be considered final when the Voting Lines open. In the case there are semi finals, you can make edits to your entries, but this will be touched on if that time comes (which it might not).

What is a Complete Entry?: Please refer to the Acceptable Standards for Entries at the World Hit Festival. Your entry will appear in the spoiler above if it has been accepted.

Headers: Please use the header that is provided below. Failure to do so will count as your entry not being completed. Please do not use caps in the header unless your artist name/song title is stylized in that way.

FINAL NOTES

It is not the intention of either the host or the Overseer to stop any user from competing at the World Hit Festival as that would go against the reason of the Festival which is to bring people together. Thus, these are the new measures that will be put in place in order to make sure that you compete.

  • The Host will alert you that the Draft Thread is open on Discord and the OOC thread. At this point, you will be able to post your spot on the Draft Thread and start working on it.
  • The Host/Overseer will send a telegram to everyone when the sign-ups close (or a week into the Draft Thread) to everyone who has not submitted an entry adhering to the above entry standards (this includes those who have yet to submit an entry), reminding them that the Festival Draft Thread is still open. A reminder will be posted on #worldhitfestival too.
  • Between 24-72 hours before the World Hit Festival Draft Thread closes (before the Draft Thread), the Host/Overseer will contact you if you have posted on the Draft Thread but you have yet to reach the entry standards of the Festival. We will outline what needs to be done to take you over the edge.
  • If you need more time or assistance, please contact either the Host or the Overseer about this issue so we can sort out a fair way to get you to compete. If you don’t contact the Host or the Overseer if you intend to get your entry in a bit later, your entry will be outright rejected.

I was in Scotatrova when I saw Taputoki perform in Engium. At the time, I was visiting my abuelos and my tía that was battling cancer. My abuelos come from a small village on the outskirts of Engium, when they migrated to the Achaean Republic—exactly, at a small city called Santiago de León in the northeastern state of Nueva Galicia—where lots of Scotatrovans traveled and settled there for a better life. In this wet, wet land close to the Atlantic and nestled in the fishing communities alongside the Río Hondo, we kept the traditions of the Old Country while assimilating into the melting pot of the Caribbean, keeping one feet in the old and one feet in the new. I grew up in León speaking both Scotatrovan with my grandparents and Spanish with my friends, occasionally lapsing into either language when I was afraid or excited or bored or aroused. Because this happened more often than not, they playfully teased me in school, calling me el catalán or “the Catalan” even though I was most definitely not a Catalan—but that didn’t matter, for my olive-tanned skin and blue-green eyes stood out from the rest of the people at my school.

I remember that time my thío gave me a small guitar he had from the Old Country. It was a gift in my epare got for Christmas as a housewarming present after moving to Achaea, one where he used to sing old Scotatrovan songs and sonnets and ballads while tearing up and thinking of the snowed-in apple orchards in winter, or the sunflower seeds in spring. He always suffered from a bout of homesickness whenever he thought of Scotatrova. He always chided me when I tried to play his guitar, saying that I would ruin the tunes and destroy the carefully manicured strings. But then he relented and apologized, and started teaching me some chords so I can play some classic tunes—first with lullabies, and then with slow-moving ballads that enchanted the girls in my school…and some boys, too. Every other summer, I would travel to Scotratrova and meet my grandparents who returned to the homeland come pension age, frolicking in the warm weather, sipping wine in the old cities, worshipping in the cathedrals (though the pierced virgins and Baroque pietá states would always creep me out, despite being a Catholic), and enjoyed riding my bicycle with my summer friends in the countryside.

I was invited to compete in WorldVision: La Final, Achaea’s typical selection for the WorldVision Song Contest. In my opinion, my performance was definitely a hit-or-miss, but it worked that I passed enough muster to arrive in third place, in front of BELLECROIX and the winner, Yileishka Mercado—I was proud of her third place in that year’s contest! But it looks like I caught the eye of Tamar de Andrade, the longtime holder of the Achaean World Hit Festival delegation, who invited me to compete and represent the country in the contest. To be truthful, I never paid much attention to the World Hit Festival. I knew it was important enough that Achaea won it twice, but I thought it was very long-suffering and melodramatic and emotional for my style. I prefer nostalgia mixed with longing without the constant self-pitying navel-gazing that many songs have. And yet, I wanted to give the contest a chance.

It looks like our country has missed out on its luck for the contest, sending great—and oftentimes controversial—performances and returning oftentimes middling results. This was a slight concern for the delegation—and Tamar De Andrade’s future salary prospects—, but not so much for me, who was looking for the free trip and the expectations of making a free trip and some money on the side. (I even turned down an opportunity to show up on COLORS just to go represent the country in the festival!) But boy was I scared and surprised when I went inside the plane to Beepee, shaking a little bit and maybe praying to the gods above for a good result. I wanted to do good. I wanted to win. Or at least, I wanted to look good if I earned zero points.

We left to Beepee on a Friday. Un Viernes. Viernes (“Friday”) was the composition I made on a lonely, boring Saturday night (hehe) at my Corola apartment, thinking about the interesting moments I had on a Friday one Scotatrovan summer while visiting my grandparents, trying to understand my hushed tones and secret passions, confused and tortured by my youth. Every singer has that piece that is “the most personal and authentic one yet!” Mine is this one. Or so I think.

Ah, Beepee! Land of schlager music and punny drag names! It took me a while to get accustomed to the dry air emanating from a slowly creeping austral winter. I flew in from Corola, and then to Atlanta, and then to Houston, and then to Los Angeles, only to almost lose my luggage (and patience!) while arriving to Hercules. I’ve heard of Beepee before on TV and could never get over the fact that, at least in images, parts of it reminded me of my parent’s home near Engio, a small shack crisscrossing the river. There was a tinge of comfort and happiness, one that I could try to find while drinking a coffee and chatting with the locals at Harbourside. A small city, perhaps, but I’m used to the smallness of the world.

I had some free time in between rehearsals and press conferences and TikTok videos to see a little bit more of Hercules, focusing much more on the Harbourside and the Gardens. The Harbourside was dotted with small shops, cafés, restaurants, and shops perched alongside the harbor where people enjoyed dipping their bodies in, even in the austral winter. I also spent time walking the gardens nearby the stately manners, trying to understand how people could drive on the wrong side of the road. I could still think of the greenery in Santiago de León, or the springtime charm of Engio when the snow barely drizzled across the sun. But I also felt a tinge of sadness and saudade, a small anomie about something I must have lost before that I couldn’t remember.

I still remember what happened that Friday.

The stage was emblazoned with twinkling LED lights on the left and right, simulating the rich sky at dusk. The lights mixed with oranges and dark blues that blended to each other above the plants surrounding the lake. On the distance, another faint LED screen showed a small gazebo with people on a few tables, eating and talking and drinking wine as they would do every other Friday after work. Then the small bridge between the screen and the stage, the delegation brought small fences to cover the perimeter. The idea was to allow the audience to travel into a tepid Friday night in the Achaean Republic—for a few minutes, at least.

I was sitting in the raised central platform on a large marble bench the delegation somehow pulled from Achaea. It was a bit worn and chipped and quite uncomfortable to sit on (did they rip it off a plaza somewhere?), but at least it gave the performance some authenticity. Beside it, there were small, twinkling lights scattered across the floor. The was also a white-yellow light atop of me, which made me feel like cuchifritos sagging in a warm window display. Doubly uncomfortable, but I knew how to make it work. Overall, the delegation opted for ambience and minimalism, a marvelous change from entries past.

I wore a bulky shirt jacket I bought at Wal-Mart with some dark faded jeans I bought from Old Navy and off-white tree runner shoes I bought online. My hair was wet and curly, though it slightly crisped up with the amount of caked-on lights and the light makeup that crossed over from my forehead to my hair. A small microphone stand was attached to me while I tightly clung to my guitar. If I was living my K.K. Slider fantasy, this was it!

After the postcard happened, the bird’s eye view of the cameras pointed atop the crown of my head, the LED lights slowly dimming at the presence of the lowlight twinklers, the LED screen behind me showing twinkling stars and the view of the lake on a Friday night. I could feel sweat starting to drip down my brow and collapse on the slippery floor like thick drops of blood. My legs were crossed on the bench as I played my guitar. (The guitar had the cables, but it was hard to determine if I was playing it, or it was a backing track. Still, I know the chords by heart.) And I sang.

When I sang, my barely squinted eyes from the immersive amounts of light could quite notice the glimmer of the cameras circling from the left to the right. I opened the eyes and barely saw the audience in the not so faint distance, some of them turning on the flashlights on the phones. So stereotypical. But I wouldn’t dare ruin their fun. At least not the way like that happened on that Friday.

Aún pienso de tu mente y tu lengua
El viernes en la noche se acerca
En un pedazo de cristal

There I was, eyes closed and remembering that Friday night in Engio, a day or two before Foundation Day, when abuela went to sleep and I left for a light drink at the bars. Oh, how fun is going to those Scotatrovan bars, where you can get a pint with a pincho and a nice time with some friends—all after midnight! It was one of my favorite bars to get a pint, and I spent the time gazing at the clock awaiting for my friends for a nice bar-hopping night. Time and time passed…Twenty hours and the news came. Twenty-one hours and the telenovela. Twenty-two and that police procedural abuelo liked to watch. Talking and chitchatting with some friends. It was fun, but it was also boring.

And then I saw him. A burly, hairy man—a farmer with a fire engine red pick-up truck that smelled of summer sweat and dirt and turnips. He spoke with the bartender and asked for a pint of beer and a side of potatoes. The potatoes look crunchy, and the way he curled up them within his fingers intrigued me. A sip of the beer, a bite of the potato. Tasted earthy, he said. Perhaps he also smelled like mushrooms. And then he took a stern glance at me, as if he saw me somewhere. A curt smile and a wave, a nice cheer to the pint I was drinking (it was the same pale ale as his), and I was hooked. How did he know…?

Cada cabello era una espina tensa
Que cortó mi barbilla seca
Me dañó, y aún quiero más

It was getting warmer in the stage. Was it warmer? Well, it felt increasingly hot. My squinting eyes closed shut, and I was lost in the imaginary sound of the chords pulling on my mind, at the same time attempting to remember what happened on that Friday. Friday…oh, Friday… He said his name was Franç. A forty-five-year-old farmer, Franç lost his wife a year or two ago and retreated himself into farming turnips, potatoes, olives, and corn. The frosts burned up his olive crops, so he focused on dealing with the corn. He talked about how he knew my family and how he wanted to visit Achaea. I told him that I would go back to the island by August, that my parents used to send me to Scotatrova for the summer when I had nothing better to do in León, that I was twenty and I wanted to learn more about my family history and maybe turn it into song, that I broke up with my girlfriend before I left the country, that I was suddenly interested in burly men— Erm, I mean, mine eyes glazed over his thick forearms and hairy, carpeted chest, with an image of the Virgin of the Angels. Every self-respecting Scoatrovan would have an image with the Virgin hanging over the neck. Perhaps that was the only way we could remember Our Lady was watching us sin.

My fingers ran through the guitar the same way I wanted to run through his chest. One pint became two, three, four, a pincho here or there, and yet my body kept its composure, but my desire went wild. Franç regaled me with stories about life in Engio, how his parents were sheep herders and always sacrificed a lamb for Easter, how my grandfather and his grandfather met at this very same bar to complain about life on Sunday afternoons after Mass, how my eyes glistened under the moonlight, how he was feeling quite lonely after his wife—

It was hard to control the flood of thoughts racing through my mind then, as hard as it was to control them now. If closing my eyes meant shutting the world and drawing in, then how come I could feel the camera spinning around the bench through soft glances? Does it even make sense? Can my expressions (or lack thereof) translate well on camera?

Jugamos del sofá, la cama y hasta el baño
Fueron horas del pasado
El placer llenando más

Franç then asked if I wanted to join him going somewhere, in plain midnight, to probably get some more beers. Apparently he took the hint that the thío wanted to close the bar at the stroke of midnight. Bordeline tipsy and in the mood to cause some heartache to my poor grandparents, I acquiesced. I then joined him in his pick-up truck, his back trunk stocked with rope and glass panes and wine. Not to worry, he said—he only kept the rope to lasso his sheep if need be. That calmed me down, barely. Then we went up and down the steep hills that almost nauseated me and made Franç hurl down a bucket with a disappointed wince. We then stopped at a roadside clearing where we could see the bright lights of Engio in the distance, the port in the sight of the waves hurling towards the Atlantic—the cam techs said the bird’s eye view would spin around me like a doily—the dizzying gaze and the breeze of the night. Was I ready to die?, my disturbed mind considered. What was going on here?

Morí con el olor de tu cuerpo impregnado
En las sábanas, besos despacio
No quiero dormir jamás

It was hard to recover my presence as the memories kept flowing from that Friday night. The stage lights were giving me a headache, squinting my vision until I could see the broken aura of the fractured stage, the waving hands of the crowd, the one or two corny flashlights coming from the phone. It wasn’t hard to remember Franç in the moonlight or break in between the fear and loathing of a broken heart. It was hard, however, to focus on the glancing cameras circling around my body, or the beads of sweat slightly messing up the chords, slightly whetting my thirsty voice. I tried to remember that Friday night, last Friday night, how that can be replaced on a Saturday.

Pero no puedo volver
A pasar un viernes (cuanto quiero, cuanto quiero)
A pasar un viernes (cuanto quiero, cuanto quiero)
A pasar un viernes (cuanto quiero, cuanto quiero)
No puedo más
A pasar un viernes (cuanto quiero, cuanto quiero)
A pasar un viernes (cuanto quiero, cuanto quiero)
A pasar un viernes (cuanto quiero, cuanto quiero)
No puedo más

And now came the part where I sang in Scotatrovan. My grandparents would force me sometimes to say things in the language so I wouldn’t forget it. It was always croçe, maxa, ozeane, and random words that would oftentimes escape from my lips even when I was hanging out with my friends or writing some answers at school. No wonder they called me the Catalan, even though I was never of Catalan descent! But it didn’t matter to them, it was a term of endearment for anybody that was even remotely European. For me, learning Scotatrovan was kind of a burden, since I never really used it outside of my house or whenever my grandparents came to visit from the old country or when I spent my summers there. It wasn’t until that Friday, when I was with Franç, visiting the clearing on that Friday, looking at the infinite distance towards the sea, that I could finally appreciate its beauty.

And on that moment, I remembered his strong, yet tender voice, “E tuoth?” And what about you?

Vaída pensá eu tue lengx, tue ménta
La nuixa eu le veneres ei girsa
Ai u quitare eu quaris

Cada cavoie un ispena estenthe
Cordon míe bárbela sige
Me dulose, mur qüerá moiç

I wanted Franç to kiss me. I wanted Franç to take me. But I also wanted to hug him, to sink my forehead into his arms and cry. Why did I want to cry? Perhaps the beads of sweat dripping down my forehead and glistening into my body, carrying the fear and shame and frustration and exorcising the passions left within me. Something would come from inside my soul, struggle to push inside my throat and breaking through the passions inflamed inside my mouth. The fear of failure, the struggle inside the brain trying to connect to my heart, and the light breaking into the audience. Could they understand the performance? Could they understand me?

Xocan eu la sufa, la leixa ía até le banie
Erá toth ai le pasathe
La muta impledí moiç

Murti gom ll’oluer eu tue corpe ai míe corpe
Ai lí linezes, blessas lentemende
Nel qüerá dormir gemaix

They always talk about the Achaeans, how loud and boorish and ghastly we are at times. How rude and sexual and annoying and inappropriate. How fun and proud we are. Even when I saw my grandparents and my family in Scotatrova, they thought of Achaea as either a wretched hive or a glorified insular casino where people and high rollers were ready to have fun. (Sometimes it feels like that, I must admit.) But Franç never asked me about Achaea, nor of my friends or family, nor of the motions and vagaries of things that happened in the past. He just held me tight for a moment. And I cried. For reason at all.

My professional career was at stake. Millions of adoring fans, passing glances, record deals and non-indie “indie” record labels were mine for the taken. But I wrote this in the sublimeness, the stillness, the passion of a moment where anything and everything could happen. The cameras would whizz past by. The fans would try to burst my sensitive ears singing their hearts out and recording everything on their phones, which I slightly detested. The music would drone past by, having heard it a hundred times, singing it a hundred times more. It was originally supposed to have drums and trumpets and cymbals and maracas and clanging at a faster beat alongside an electric guitar, a synthesizer, and a sassy pair of vocalists with curly hair. But I decided, begged, implored the delegation to slow it down—and to trust me, because it would work.

Mur athór nel poix volthar
Quadir u veneres (Qüenia qüerá, qüenia qüerá)
Quadir u veneres (Qüenia qüerá, qüenia qüerá)
Quadir u veneres (Qüenia qüerá, qüenia qüerá)
Mur nel poix moiç
Quadir u veneres (Qüenia qüerá, qüenia qüerá)
Quadir u veneres (Qüenia qüerá, qüenia qüerá)
Quadir u veneres (Qüenia qüerá, qüenia qüerá)

Pero no puedo volver

“¡Gracias! Greixas! Thank you!” I said in my three languages, waving at the camera and blowing some air-kisses at whoever wanted to grab them. I tipped my beret and whisked my acoustic guitar off-stage. I don’t know if it would be enough to take it home. But at least I tried.

:

I still think about your mind and your tongue
Friday night is coming near
In a piece of crystal

Each hair is a tense spine
That cut my dry chin
It damaged me, and I want more

We played in the sofa, the bed and even the bathroom
There were times in the past
The pleasure filling us more

I died with the smell of your body impregnated
In the sheets, being kissed slowly
I don’t want to sleep anymore

But I can’t return
To spend a Friday (how much I want to, how much I want to)
To spend a Friday (how much I want to, how much I want to)
To spend a Friday (how much I want to, how much I want to)
I can’t return

And the winner of World Hit Festival 64 is.....BEEPEE!!!!!

"I do feel happy with Tohst win but I'm crying inside. I feel like I failed my country." Rama Aksana said in an interview after he came back to the country. Aksana once again give a runner up win for Pemecutan. But back home, he is consider a hero. His single hit a record sale and top the Chakra Music Chart for a couple of weeks after his WHF success. The organizer feel happy with the result and hope that it is mean a comeback for Pemecutan in the competition. Aksana's second place finished is like a fresh air for Pemecutan recent failure in WHF.

With the success, the organizer is eager to find the next song for the country's representation in the upcoming edition. "We might going to go big. Maybe an up tempo song will suitable for the next edition," UBC representative stated. And after much deliberation, the organizer choose the song, Kita Saudara as their representative to the 65 World Hit Festival. The chosen song however give a mixed response from the festival fans.

The song, Kita Saudara is sing by 3 artists. Iktamila Kamnajada, the duo DeeTwo and rapper, Brihan. The lyrics which is written Jandibala Aksalueng, Yande Gobleg and Brihan himself is telling the listeners to unite together for the sake of the country's future. The release of the song which coincide with Cakranegara referendum result and the decision of referendum in Soracana Islands meet with mixed review. One side of the review say that the song is a pro-integration propaganda so Soracanian won't be asking referendum. Another said that the song is a good motivation song for the youngsters. While the other said that the song is a cries after the government failed to secure their military base in Cakranegara. Despite the mixed reviews, the song is welcomed and have a decent placement in Chakra Music Chart. It's not topped the chart but it's in the top 10.

Aksalueng, one of the writer of the song give his statement about the song. He said that there is no propaganda whatsoever in the song. It is just a simple song that wants to motivate everyone to focus on their future and forget about all the negative surrounding. The song is also the recording company's CSR project where the sale of it will be donated to scholarship institution. And about the singers selection, the producer of the song, Wijaya Adisastra said that the selection is too give a differ representation of Pemecutanian population. Rama Brihandala or Brihan is from youngsters of mixed Pemecutan. DeeTwo are native Pemecutanian while Kamnajada is Soracanian. Adisastra also said that maybe Kamnajada presence that is questionable because she is Soracanian. But that's nothing to do with politics. It's to give representation for all demographics.

Iktamila Kamnajada

Iktamila Kamnajada is not new to the multiverse song festival competition. She first compete at 59th World Hit Festival in a duet performance with Gading Mahesa. They finished 7th out of 18 contestant. After her WHF decent success, Kamnajada become more known in Pemecutan. She is getting more attention from the media with several interviews and performances. She is in the middle of gathering materials for her next album when she was approached to sing this song. The songwriter, Aksalueng who recommend her name to Adisastra. Knowing about her recent success and warm welcome in the mainland, Adisastra agree to use Kamnajada as the main vocalist for the song.

DeeTwo is a duo singer and rapper that was established around 9 years ago. It consist of 2 members, Dimas Raka Anggara and Dani Satria Mulya. The duo are college friends who have the same interest in music and singing. They began to collaborating and cover notable songs to be uploaded to their WhoTube channel. At first, they named their group as DiDa which is the first two syllables of their name, DImas and DAni. But then they settled with DeeTwo. In an interview, Dani once explain about the naming selection which have its own philosophy. The first is the name referring to both of their name which begin with 'D', DeeTwo here means two Ds. The second is DeeTwo is pronounce Ditu which in Hanacaraka means 'there'. It's like an acclaim of their existence, 'Oh DeeTwo' (Oh there!).

Their career however is not quite good. After some welcomed and viral cover songs, they try to create their own song. But then, their original song was underperform and get negative reviews from the audience. And about 6 years ago, an independent recording company approached them and help them to get to their feet. Their first album however was a big disaster. Although their first single were getting more positive reviews. But that doesn't help their album sale. They are continue to sing in restaurants or cafe. Their second album 'Aurora' was release a year ago to a decent performance. Their WhoTube channel however is still famous and attract many followers. While about this song, they are saying that this is a challenge for them especially Dani to sing a song in Hanacaraka.

Rama Brihandala or known as his stage name, Brihan was known as a kid rapper that shocked the audience when he performed at the Bintang Radio dan Televisi (BRTV, Radio and Television Stars) national competition. He was 9 at the time. And now, after 9 years passed, he come back to the music industry. His success to reached top 10 of BRTV make him quite famous as a kid. It is a rare talent in Pemecutan for a young rapper. He and the BRTV finalists at the time was collaborated in a collaboration album to honored that season of BRTV. And that was his only album before he take a break to focus on his study. Brihan however still took several off-stages performance during his free time.

Brihan

In an interview after the announcement of Pemecutan delegate to World Hit Festival, Brihan was surprise when he was approached to collaborated in the song. Adisastra, the producer, say that Brihan is a good representation of Pemecutanian youngsters. And his presence could influence young kids nowadays. Brihan feel honor to be involved in the project. He feels this song can help other people to keep looking for their bright future. He is also aware that the song is a social and charity project. That reason alone make him prouder to be part of the project.

The host announced the next performance which is Pemecutan. The postcard of Pemecutan is reveal on the the big screen and also on the hanging screen above the diamond island stage. The venue suddenly become pitch black as the light from the screen (the only light at the time) is also goes off. With one note voiced by the piano, a downlight shot through the diamond stage where Iktamila Kamnajada is already standing there. She looks lovely with strapples blue gown with blue bolero. Her hair is left flowing. A catchy orchid broche is knitted at her left waist. She start to sing the chorus of the song which become the opener. All the attention are on her as she is the only one where the light is pointed.

The camera zoom in to her face at the start of her singing before zooming out little by little. While the screen showing a splash from a falling water inline with the beat of the song.

Kamnajada:
Lengsapan kabindangan
Irak salira
Sae kasamayan
Dusuin mamusuhan
Iring sasama
Tarik masa depan

After Kamnajada finished her part, the downlight on her is off. While another downlight is lighten up which is now pointed to DeeTwo. Dimas lead the rap part with Dani as back up. Both looks stunning with a semi formal outfit. Dimas wear blue denim shirt accompanied with dark blue jeans and white sneakers. Dani on the other hand wear brown jacket with white tee and black jeans accompanied with a pair of white sneakers. Both snaps their fingers to accompany the beat of the music which makes it more authentic.

The downlight on Kamnajada is enlighten again as she continue to her part. The chorus. The light on DeeTwo is still light up as both become the back up while Kamnajada sing. The camera show how are they interact each other. It make a clear cut changing view between them. The screen show a continuing footage of blooming flowers, one after another. While the screen above the diamond stage follows how the camera is viewing their performance.

Dimas DeeTwo:
Oh… Ape ke uyutin?
Megonggeng
Tusing bise siep Munyi doen
Ape bakat ulian uyut?
Benyah ne kel bakat
Ngudiang terus nagih saling meuyutan
Luungan ngalih ane saling asih asuh
Suud monto ngitungang jele pisage
Mai jalan jani nyalanang swadharma...

Kamnajada:
Lengsapan kabindangan
Irak salira
Sae kasamayan
Dusuin mamusuhan
Iring sasama
Tarik masa depan...
Tarik masa depan…

Lengsapan kabindangan
Irak salira
Sae kasamayan
Iring sasama
Tarik masa depan

The light on Kamnajada is turn off as Dani take his part for the second rap part with Dimas now as a back up. The third rap part is taken over by Brihan. The light switch to Brihan with all the other lights are turned off. Brihan is also wearing a casual outfit. He wear an all-black clothes, black shirt with the top 2 are unbuttoned, black pants and also black sneakers. His large belt is very noticeable. Brihan moves nimbly as he sing his part which makes the audience scream (probably from Pemecutan seat). They are captivated by his charm.

Dani DeeTwo:
Sing ade duur ajak betenan
Mekejang rage pade setara
Ne madan kasta ento turunan
Sing ngidang ngelesang kanti benjang
Idup di gumine sing ngidang milih
Lacur lan sugih e be pade ngisi
Ne ngidang kepilih pejalanan idup e
Kanti bin pidan di pegat angkian* ne

Brihan:
Sudah hentikanlah
Segala perdebatan yang ada
Itu tiada guna
Hanya buang-buang energi saja
Lebih baik kita semua fokus
Pada harapan yang dituju
Bersama kita semua bisa
Bangun masa depan yang gemilang

The light on Kamnajada and DeeTwo are englight as Kamnajada sing the chorus. DeeTwo and Brihan are singing the back up. And finally, the audience can see the four of them together. A louder scream can be heard from the audience, mostly Pemecutanian. They are amazed with the performance.

Kamnajada:
Lengsapan kabindangan
Irak salira
Sae kasamayan
Dusuin mamusuhan
Iring sasama
Tarik masa depan...
Tarik masa depan...

Lengsapan kabindangan
Irak salira
Sae kasamayan
Iring sasama
Tarik masa depan

Kamnajada then continue to sing the bridge. On the other hand, DeeTwo and Brihan walk to the center diamond stage to meet Kamnajada. Dimas belted his voice as he backing up Kamnajada part. Until Kamnajada continue with the chorus, it is now she is the one who belted her voice. Brihan and DeeTwo take the backing vocal. They both moves in random. Feel affected by the music.

Kamnajada:
Walau berbeda tak buat kita lemah
Karna berbeda membuat semua jadi indah
Dengan bersama kita kan jadi kuat
Tetap percaya bersatulah
Bersama bisa
Membangun masa depan….

Tarik masa depan...

Lengsapan kabindangan
Irak salira
Sae kasamayan
Iring sasama
Tarik masa depan...

Kamnajada repeat the chorus once again. She take Brihan hand on her right and Dani's hand on her left. Dani then take Dimas hand. The gesture is nicely capture by the camera. Kamnajada repeat the chorus for the second time until the song is finally ended and they are all lift up their interlocking hands.

Kamnajada:
Lengsapan kabindangan
Irak salira
Sae kasamayan
Iring sasama
Tarik masa depan

They are then bow down as the song ended. The audience give a round of applause. Some are give a standing ovation, probably from Pemecutan. The venue become bright again. And everyone can see them clearly. They are bowing a couple of time before they shouts in unison, Thank you, Hercules!!!!
.

Forget the difference
We all
One brother
Stop the hostility
Let's be together
Build the future

What's all the fuss about? Argument
Can't be silent, keep talking
What do you gain from the fuss?
Acquired destruction
Why are you always looking for a fuss
It's better to seek love and peace
It's enough to think about the neighbour's ugliness
Let's run swadharma* together

Forget the difference
We all
One brother
Stop the hostility
Let's be together
Build the future
Build the future

Forget the difference
We all
One brother
Let's be together
Build the future

No one is above or below
We are all equal
Caste issue, it's heredity
Cannot be revoked until later
Living in this world we don't get to choose
Poor and rich already have their share
What we can choose is our way of life
Until the end of our life

Stop it already
All the debates
It's useless
Just a waste of energy
It's better if we all focus
On the intended hope
Together we all can
Build a bright future

Forget the difference
We all
One brother
Stop the hostility
Let's be together
Build the future
Build the future

Forget the difference
We all
One brother
Let's be together
Build the future

Even though different doesn't make us weak
Because being different makes everything beautiful
Together we will be strong
Keep believing, be united
Together (we) can
Building the future….

Build the future...

Forget the difference
We all
One brother
Let's be together
Build the future....

Forget the difference
We all
One brother
Let's be together
Build the future

Note:
* Swadharma = self obligation
* Pegat angkian , is a Pemecutanian Hanacarakan phrase. Literally means the loss of breath, it is to express someone who is died.

Stehl - "Sunset"

Language(s): English
Tune: BoyWithUke - Long Drives
Additional Information
Lyrics: Denis Góld
Music: Denis Góld
Trigramme: FLU

Image
Denis Góld, better known by his stage name Stehl, is a young singer-songwriter who hails from Brückborg, a suburb of the city of Vörsembr in eastern Flusia. Góld was born on March 11, 1996 to Zultán Góld, who worked as a warehouse manager, and his wife Katylin, and grew up in a non-practicing Orthodox Jewish family. According to him, he gained an interest in music at a young age when his father would put on records, and began writing songs in high school. Stehl first came to attention in 2018, when he independently released and promoted two Flusian language EPs, Da Vizen Vol. 1 and Da Vizen Vol. 2, which were positively received by critics and elevated him in the indie pop scene. Emboldened by the EPs’ success, he began writing and posting shorter material and WIP songs to social sites like Instagram and TikTok. In 2020, he made a breakthrough into the mainstream when he appeared on the Flusian adaptation of The X Factor, coming in third place overall and landing a deal with major Flusian label Hós Rekordok, with whom he is scheduled to release his currently untitled debut studio album later this year. His success has continued into the 2020s, finishing second in the current edition of national song contest Flusiavision, earning him the right to compete in the WHF. Stehl’s submission, Sunset, was written entirely by him and is inspired by insomniac episodes he had following a breakup with his longtime girlfriend and the thoughts he had during and after them. Stehl says he would like to win the World Hit Festival because “It means a lot for Flusia because it’s their debut, and it means a lot for me because it means all my hard work will have paid off.”

Performance Notes: The Jumbotron is not used as part of the performance, instead displaying live footage. Bolded lyrics appear on the LED screen when Stehl sings them.
The stage is completely dark for a few seconds. Then, the lights start blinking white in tune to the intro. When the lyrics start, the lights go red, orange and yellow, and a spotlight shines on Stehl sitting in a worn-out sofa chair in the center of the runway, dressed in all black hoodie, leggings and sneakers and playing a ukulele with an adjustable mic stand next to him. Throughout the first verse, the LED screen and Jumbotron fade through shades of red, orange, and yellow.
And now here comes the sunset
Bringing all my bad dreams
And now I’m getting restless with all of these feelings, so then
I lie down in my crappy blue jeans
And I wonder why my heart just isn’t healing

The LED screens eventually fade to black, and the lights turn blue, with some flashing in white to the tune of the beat. Stehl stops playing his ukulele, takes the microphone out of it’s stand next to the chair and gets up and starts dancing towards the diamond stage slowly and making gestures with his left hand holding the ukulele.
You said it’s you, I know it’s me
Why’d you think I wouldn’t see
You’re getting tired of me thinking of myself and not we
That’s ok, that’s just great,
I understate why you hate
my music, it’s not that good, I think I
should get right back to work, and improve my songs
So I write but then my hurt strikes me like a gong
Babe, I’m sorry and I realize I did you wrong
Stop this schism, I’ve lost optimism, it’s messing up my rhythm

Stehl walks up to a second mic stand on the diamond stage, puts his mic in and resumes playing his ukulele. The LED graphics and lights from the first chorus repeat.
And now here comes the sunset
Bringing all my bad dreams
And now I’m getting restless with all of these feelings, so then
I lie down in my crappy blue jeans
And I wonder why my heart just isn’t healing

The screens fade to solid black again, and the lights turn back to blue, this time with white dots as “stars” blinking in tune with the music on the screens. Stehl stops playing and grabs the mic stand with his hand.
We used to be fooling (‘round and playing games)
But now you look right through me like you don’t (even know my name)
Tell me was I just so awful, did I (treat you terribly)
‘Cause if I did, then I’m sorry

Stehl takes the mic out and starts dancing back towards the sofa chair and the runway while the stars on the screen start blinking more rapidly, alongside some flashing white lights.
I screwed it up
I’m out of luck
And every night I fill my cup
The going’s rough, and my tears are flowing ‘cause I’m not that tough
I don’t want much (woah)
Getting you back would be enough
Yeah, getting you back would be enough

Stehl adjusts the chair stand, puts the mic into it, and plays his ukulele standing up next to it. The LED graphics and lights from the first and second chorus repeat.
And now here comes the sunset
Bringing all my bad dreams
And now I’m getting restless with all of these feelings, so then
I lie down in my crappy blue jeans
And I wonder why my heart just isn’t healing

The chorus repeats again, now aided by flashing white lights. Towards the end, Stehl takes a quick break from playing to adjust the stand again so he he can sit in the chair.
And now here comes the sunset
Bringing all my bad dreams
And now I’m getting restless with all of these feelings, so then
I lie down in my crappy blue jeans
And I wonder why my heart just isn’t healing

Stehl sits down in the chair and plays the Outro on ukulele. The LED screens now start fading between various cool shades of blue, with lights matching.
Hey, I thought that I’d just let you know
I saw you in the back at my last show
I thought you might miss me
But that’s insane, that couldn’t be
So I, just wanna ask why you were there
But if that means I’m in your hair
Then you can forget I cared

The songs ends, the screens fade to black and the lights turn off. Stehl says “Dank” (“Thank you” in Flusian) and walks off stage.

MALTA COMINO GOZO
SCORPION - "UNDERWATER"

Language(s): ENGLISH
Tune: Fall Out Boy - Thnks fr th Mmrs
Additional Information
Lyrics: Harry Farrugia
Music: Xamet Sultana & Harry Farrugia
Trigramme: MCG

Image
Xamet Sultana, Harry Farrugia, Salvinu Micallef and Calvin Portelli

Scorpion is a four-piece rock/pop-punk group from Comino. Making word-wide waves in the sea of music can be challenging when you’re stuck in a small town… on a small island. Especially if you’re rocking electric guitars in a music scene made up of traditional Malta Comino Gozoan pop artists. With their blend of rock, pop, and emo-pop the band has been fighting to make a splash since 2017. Their new album, Showcase Come Alive might just do the trick. The brand new music video for ”Underwater” puts the band on a new level, showing just how much they’ve grown since their formation 5 years ago.

Image

Scorpion says an artist is their story, so let’s take it back to the start. During freshman year of high school, best friends, Harry and Xamet wanted to start a band. They did what most nowadays are too afraid to do: Bring it back to the basics. The brothers put up some flyers and soon scouted Calvin Portelli and later on that year Salvinu Micallef. Next step: Write some songs. Coming from such a narrow-minded music community, the question arose: “Do we sing in English or Maltese?” Lucky for international fans like us, these young men had learned exceptional English at a young age through their school and obsession with music and art. 5 formative years later, after a few changes in the band, Scoprion has released a number of brilliant records such as their WHF entry "Underwater". When harry proclaims that he is “underwater”, that’s another way of saying that he’s caught up in some type of depressed or stressed out state. And basically, what the lyrics centre on is his desire for someone to come and help alleviate him of this situation. That someone, as implied by the first verse, maybe an individual he’s had a loving relationship with in times past, a person who was “always around to make (him) smile”. But apparently, there is no one in the vocalist’s life like that at the moment, thus this song.

Over 8000 fans were jam-packed in the arena and were all waiting for the MCG performance to start. The huge stage which makes the 8,000-cap venue feel like an intimate, sweaty punk show fills the middle of the venue. There are huge screens framing the top of the stage, fireworks, flame throwers and confetti for days. The quartet don’t hesitate to pull out all the arena show tricks you can imagine.
For this World Hit Festival, the MCG delegation was rather chilled out with what went on in regards to the band's staging but that didn't mean it wouldn't be entertaining. The 360-degree stage would prove to be " interesting " to say the least. Each member of the band wore a black satin shirt with a white t-shirt, with black ripped jeans. Lead singer Harry seemed moulded from a different cast as he had an androgynous look uncommon to most people. Lacquered and enamelled by the sun, he radiated energy and brio. His mountain peak cheekbones appeared chiselled into shape by a master craftsman. They were of such sharp contours, that it looked as if they were sculpted and pared to perfection. With eyes as bright and spellbinding as lode stars, they bewitched all those who fell under his steady gaze. They were a-sparkle with mirth and shone like two eternity-blue jewels enwrought in snow.

The intro of the song is brought in by dramatic orchestration with lots of dynamics and tension that kind of tension that gives you goosebumps. The lights flicker like something out of a horror movie as the camera steadily moves in from the back of the hall towards the stage. The band are standing in a diamond formation on the stage with Harry being at the front. Calvin is on a slightly elevated platform at the back on drums. Xamet and Salvinu are left and right of Harry on bright blue electric guitars.

Once the verse had begun, the camera cut from black to a body shot of Harry lit in a subtle blue spotlight. He has a black acoustic guitar hung around his neck His watery eyes opened, glittering in the lights as he softly sang the first lines. Though he has a light voice, due to his technique, his voice carries. His belting range carries a lot of sounds and surprising ease, given the genre he sings in usually calls for more strain and tension than traditional pop music. The camera shot did not change for a while, as he closed his eyes once again, letting the lyrics slip from his lips on the winds of the song. Though his body subtly swayed, his hands remained gripped upon the microphone stand. We can hear the band backing him to give the song some depth.

Black sins and white lies
Cold hands in the midnight
There was a blanket covering everything you never said
We were the forgotten Atlantis
All of the sunken ships inside its veils

We then have a brief aerial shot looking directly down onto harry as the LED floor beneath him begins to swirl with turquoise blues as he reaches a hand out towards the audience. The camera fades to black and back to Harry. Harry locks eyes with the camera view, his voice strong and clear, as he builds toward the chorus of the song. A dark blue glow seeps in from the edges of the camera view, but beyond that, not much is visible. His voice walks the fine line between being seductive and being charming. H doesn't take his gaze off the camera.

Somewhere under the water
Maybe you could find him a heart
Listen to him scream
Shows he has good lungs
Throw him under the water right now!

The camera suddenly snaps to one showing the entire stage as a huge CGI waterfall envelops the stage. The dark Atlantis-blue glow has risen engulfing the back LEDS' like a looming cobra before it comes crashing down as a huge wave fills the four large stage screens with "CGI water" as it crashes down. The waterfall was Atlantis-blue. It was gushing over the stage. At its widest point, it was surging and plunging down the entire background. As it crashes down water vents burst forth out of the edges of the stage spraying a light mist down onto the band and the nearby spectators, not enough to soak people but just enough to add a cool atmospheric effect and damped the band's hair and enunciate the band's facial features. The crowd cheers loudly. The white strobe lights pierce out through the arena pulsating to the beat of the song, strobing and rotating around in shades of blue and white. The camera is someone energetic as it rushes around offering various views. We cut to a brief gritty bouncy view of Xamet screeching his guitar, as he headbands, another shot of Salvinu as he takes one step forward and leans forward on his right leg. The camera then spirals clockwise toward Calvin playing his drums vigorously.

Just because you learnt to breathe
Underwater, doesnt mean you ever shake the fear
Off drowning in deep water....
Submission!
Going down, dragging me down
Underwater, Underwater
Going down, dragging me down...
Ohhh...

The camera spins around Calvin on drums like this. The audience is a sea of lights in the darkness. The stage is lit in various dark blues which adds to the atmosphere. Harry now has a glossy surface on his clothes thanks to the mist. He runs his hand through his slick damp hair and winks to the camera as it pulls away to his right side before he turns to face the front, the camera cutting to a front shot as he does. The camera shows a shot of the fantastic stage lit up in dark blues and turquoise. We have some great harmonies as the band sing with Harry supporting him. The four screens above the stage start to fill with CGI water and Harry takes a defensive stance shielding his face from the above torrent as he sings "It's like I'm underwater trying not to drown"

I'm over my head
And there's no way out
It's like I'm underwater trying not to drown
The harder I fight, the deeper I fall
Why am I so afraid to risk it all?
I'm underwater...

The camera suddenly snaps to one showing the entire stage again as the huge CGI waterfall envelops the stage once more. The dark Atlantis-blue glow has risen engulfing the back LEDS' like a looming cobra before it comes crashing down as a huge wave fills the four large stage screens with "CGI water" as it crashes down. As it crashes down water vents burst forth out of the edges again of the stage spraying a light mist down onto the band and the nearby spectators. The white strobe lights pierce out through the arena pulsating to the beat of the song, strobing and rotating around in shades of blue and white. The camera is someone energetic as it rushes around offering various views from the back of the hall racing in and various close-ups shots of the stage that turn and twist showing the stage from above facing out into the excited audience. We cut to a brief gritty bouncy view of Xamet screeching his guitar, as he headbands, another shot of Salvinu as he takes one step forward and leans forward on his right leg. Harry's soulful voice rings with a rockstar tinge, backed by loads of harmonies piling on top of the thick rhythm guitar.

Just because you learnt to breathe
Underwater, doesnt mean you ever shake the fear
Off drowning in deep water....
Submission!
Going down, dragging me down
Underwater, Underwater
Going down, dragging me down...
Oh..

The arena lights are all calm and the stage is lit into a dark sky blue. The camera fades from a stage shot to a facial shot of Harry. The drums settle as Harry strums away on his guitar, and the crow roars. The pre-chorus slowly builds and so do the lights which begin to flash more periodically. As the pre chorus ends the guitars build before the whole band throws one arm into the air simultaneously before bringing it crashing down to their instruments. The crowd cheers. Harry sings passionately towards the camera shutting his eyes briefly before opening them for the last line.

Oh oh! She plays above the swirling water
Watching sailors, tramps and outcast daughters
Live their lives and slowly fade
As she pushes them down...
Underwater, no one can hear ya scream..
Woah!

Harry engages with the audience like this as he claps to the beat of the song. The two guitarists swap places behind him before running to the sides of the 360 stage to engage with the audience. They strum playfully, losing themselves in the rhythm. The boom camera does a clockwise spin from around the entire stage so we can see the audience surrounding the stage.

Just because you learnt to breathe
Underwater, doesn't mean you ever shake the fear
Off drowning in deep water....
Submission!
Going down, dragging me down
Underwater, Underwater
Going down, dragging me down... Underwater!
Oh!!

This time instead of the water we now have a huge laser show that penetrates the air incredibly. The blinding flashing lights shoot and dance with force throughout the hall, the crow roars with joy. The camera is set at the back of the hall and we can see people really engaging with the song. The band now sing the chorus and Harry echos the words belting out the last chorus, all their voices producing a wonderful harmony! The two guitarists lean and bop into the audience, banging their heads to the beat as they do. We then have a boom camera shot that sweeps in and then around the edge of the stage as fireworks fountains shoot outwards out of the edges. The whole stage flashes a glaring white before we have an up-close shot of Xamet, then a guitar shot of Salvinu screeching his guitar riff, his guitar held high, before a quick shot of Calvin on drums. The whole stage is noe bathed in dazzling white flashes with strobe lights whirling around the arena this time a lot slower. We then have a view from above left before it transitions to a crowd view off on Harry's left. Harry is holding his microphone stand and shaking it, the mic in his left hand he's slouched over slightly moving his whole head to the beat. Salvinu walks towards Harry's left and Xamet to his right and as the song ends they are all aligned at the front. The camera switches to a view from afar and hurtles towards the stage leaving us with a body shot of the 3 men with Calvin in the background. The crow behind cheers loudly. Harry looks exhaustingly into the camera, his hands clutching his microphone.

Underwater, Underwater
Just because you learnt to breathe
Underwater, doesn't mean you ever shake the fear
Off drowning in deep water....
Submission!
Going down, dragging me down
Underwater, Underwater
Going down, dragging me down...
Oh..

Harry, fist bumps the air elatedly. The crowd erupts into huge cheers and screams, with flags of various nations being waved about. "Thank you so much Beepee!" He shouts excitedly his voice cracking slightly.

The chorus starts again and the camera cuts to francis who's playing a mix of A violin and a guitar and then to douglas who's playing the keyboard
I'll go with The Change
Will it work
or will it bite me back
I Don't Know So I Change my Ways

the Light/Fog machine thing happens again, but adding in a few sparks of pyro to kick it off
What Happens Now?, When I Want You
When You're Making My Head spin
What Happens Now?
What Happens Now?
What Happens Now
Oh-oh,What Happens Now?

The camera moves onto Sidney as the final verse is sung, moving back after every line
For Once And All the final Call
I'm Miles from My end goal
But Will You See Me?

the camera pans around then moves to the back before The pyro sparks, then the lights go bezerk and Sidney shouts "Let's go Hercules!"
What Happens Now?, When I Want You
When You're Making My Head spin
What Happens Now?
What Happens Now?
What Happens Now
What Happens Now?

as the song finishes, francis and douglas rush into the middle of the stage to meet sidney and the band then shout "THANK YOU WORLD!"

Safiya - "My Ugly Life"

Language(s): English
Tune: Cocco - 羽根 ~lay down my arms~
Additional Information
Lyrics: Safiya Aserati
Music: Safiya Aserati
Trigramme: BES

Image

For the first time since the 53rd contest in Bovingdon, Britonisea, a Besenian singer sets sail for Beepee to compete at the World Hit Festival. Safiya will be arriving in Hercules to begin rehearsals at The Hercules Conference Centre, working on her performance and preparing the technical elements of her performance for the world.

She felt a little embarrassed that her performance didn’t have many of the elements of the other performers in the competition – BSS hadn’t provided her with much of a budget, as viewership of the festival had dropped steadily over the years as Besen began to participate less and less, and so did the money that the broadcaster put in. The fact that BSS was also slowly losing money did not help the situation either, and BAEN was not ready to take the reins as they were solely focused on the Worldvision Song Contest. So instead of the fireworks, with her team they decided to go for something more intimate, more her.

“My Ugly Life” is written and composed by Safiya herself, both started and finished in early 2021, and being kept in her vault of songs for quite a while before she was ready to release it on her upcoming self-titled project. It’s about falling in love and confiding in the moments that you share with a loved one, and finding that that is the only escape from your otherwise mundane life.

As the cameras swing around for the stage reset and the Besenian delegation gets ready to watch their performance, Safiya steps forward to the mic, with her acoustic guitar around her neck. Candles are all around her feet, lighting up the stage floor brightly, everything else is in pitch black almost. She wears her hair down in a messy style, and she wears a simple white dress which almost resembles a night gown of sorts. The camerawork is slow and steady, beginning up front centered to her face and then turning very slowly around to reveal the simplistic staging until it has reached a 45 degree angle. Safiya stares ahead to the audience.

I sit and wait for you under the streetlight
No one’s around except the wind tonight
Then I see you walking by…

As the heavy guitar chords hit, Safiyah begins to play more aggressively, swaying to the melody of the music, and as this happens the back of the stage lights up on the LED, with green, red, and yellow flowers which intertwine and twist slowly. A gentle breeze from the frontal wind machine blows her hair softly as she delivers the lyrics to the first verse.

My mother doesn’t know about the things we do
I wonder if you’ve told yours about me though
Does she know about our love…?

When she sings about the grass, the colour palette of the back LEDs shifts to more green, swirling around quicker across the back of the stage, but the floor is still entirely black and the candles flare up. The camera is now also quicker and moves around mainly left to right and Safiya starts to maintain eye contact with the lens.

Does she know about the days
We sit in the grass
We sit in silence
Words can’t describe how…

As for the staging in the chorus, some changes that are evident are of the shots becoming more and more fast paced and the LEDs begin to get more vibrant and move more often. The main change is Safiya's voice filling up the stage, belting out the sustained notes at the beginning of each phrase of the lyrics in the chorus. She strums the guitar mildly aggressively and shifts her body around in the centre of the stage, feeling the energy of the crowd building and the momentum of the song climbing to its sonic peaks. A few stage lights at each side of the rectangle move moderately fast just around in circles like searchlights.

Bright, you’ve made my world come alive
You, you mean more to me than you’ll ever know
I’m, writing you this letter
I, hope I will die by your side
You saved my ugly life, you did it with a kiss

The energy of the chorus gets sucked away as all of the lights dim back down, and the LEDs are faded, and the camera moves back down to the centre. She drops the guitar from her hands and lets it hang as she grabs the microphone off of the stand and follows the camera as it circles in one slow 360 motion. She sings the lyrics directly to the TV audience, emoting beautifully and innocently into the lens, her smile brighter than the candles all around her.

Despair on the days you can’t spare
I wonder if I’m also on your mind
Is it crazy to say this…
Is it crazy to love
In this way
Under these lights
You don’t know how…

The 360 shot reaches its end and the camera cuts back to a wide centred shot where a few rows of the front audience and Safiya are seen. She sings out to the live audience in Hercules, belting out the chorus again. She bends backwards hitting the top notes, right at the front of the stage. She almost invites the audience to sing along in a playful way, maintaining her genuine smile as her experience of performing with a band to small crowds take over her. As the heavy guitar solo comes into musical focus, she rocks her head back and forth, walking to the left corner and then back over to the right corner.

Bright, you’ve made my world come alive
You, you mean more to me than you’ll ever know
I’m, writing you this letter
I, hope I will die by your sword
You saved my ugly life, you did it with a kiss

She regains her breath and her energy for one last chorus. The camera widens out for the largest shot of the entire arena yet, and she begins to give arguably her best vocal moments of the performance, truly giving it her all in front of the world. The LEDs in the back move quick, flipping through images like flipping through a scrapbook, images of her and her lover flashing one after the other, and then memories, and images of her and her family. The previous flower imagery floods down to the tight edges of the stage in the rectangular shape, keeping out of the centre where the candles still go.

Bright, you’ve made my world come alive
You, you mean more to me than you’ll ever know
I’m, writing you this letter
I’m hoping it will get to you
You saved my ugly life
You save it everyday
You, you mean more to me than you’ll ever know
You, you mean more to me than they’ll ever know
You, you’ve meant more to me than I’ve ever known

All of the elements of the stage performance come to light at once, and she adds the final piece of the recipe, improving to her song, letting her emotion shine through, belting out with all of her soul. When, at last, a massive heavy strum in the instrumental, she takes the guitar and places it back into place and the closing acoustic guitar chords come in to softly close the chapter. She plays gently looking up to the sky and the camera moves forward until it's nearly a close-up shot but not quite.

I love you, I’m unafraid
Aah, aah
Aah, aah

She smiles in the camera as the music ends. "Thank you so much." She tearfully mouths.

Lionel Burkes - "Warship and Ice"

Language(s): English
Tune: Midnight Oil - Blossom and Blood
Additional Information
Lyrics: Lionel Burkes
Music: Lionel Burkes, Santino Enciso
Trigramme: TIS

At Hercules, Beepee, you sit in the city's wide stadium, in the midst of cheers and applause from the crowd of the previous performance. "Bravo!" "Great performance!" "Keep it up!"

Backstage, Lionel Burkes and Santino Enciso prepare for their upcoming performance, where they will perform the nation's military anthem, "Warship and Ice". You can hear Enciso tuning his guitar from as far away as you are, while Burkes quietly cleans his formal general uniform.

The presenter makes a call for silence which you cannot over the crowd, and then the presenter exclaims again; "Silence!". The crowd remains still, then the presenter again speaks; "You are about to listen to the military anthem of The Empire of The Ice States, performed by General Lionel Burkes himself, and Lieutenant Santino Enciso.". You promptly see Burkes and Enciso entering the stage, with a certain level of applause from the audience. Enciso immediately starts playing the five-note guitar riff, and Burkes performs the first part of the military anthem _

You the mothers who sent your sons
Wipe away your tears
For those who fought and those who fell
Become our sons as well
You Ice warriors who killed them
Come back for a badge
For your life could have been destroyed
In the name of Klyprer

Cheers begin mid-song, and Burkes has to gesture Enciso, who has a fear of stage, to continue _

All Icers who know the divine power
All Icers who know never woken at night by the sound of guns
Like a child that's lost his country of god
With a powerful god, we fight for Klyprer, conquest and riches

This nation of worship and ice
This nation suffered more than it should
But we will fight for it and fight for it and fight for it
This nation of warship and ice
This nation suffered more than it should
But we will fight for it and fight for it and fight for it

Mid-way through the refrain, you suddenly vividly recall the time that the Ice military performed this exact section of the song while publicly torturing a political dissident, and become distracted as the song continues ignoring your thoughts_

You the mothers who sent your sons
Wipe away your tears
For those who fought and those who fell
Become our sons as well
You Ice warriors who killed them
Come back for a badge
For your life could have been destroyed
In the name of Klyprer

However you fall, however you think you fall, however you fall
There's a heart in Klyprer remembering you, remembering you
However you fall, however you fall
It's the way of Klyprer to remember you

This nation of worship and ice
This nation suffered more than it should
But we will fight for it and fight for it and fight for it
This nation of warship and ice
This nation suffered more than it should
But we will fight for it and fight for it and fight for it

When Enciso finishes the guitar solo after this verse, enthusiastic applause from some of the audience - probably Ice visitors - turns into the singing of another verse, while you remain awkwardly silent between an enthusiastic crowd _

You the mothers who sent your sons
Wipe away your tears
For those who fought and those who fell
Become our sons as well

Burkes tries to sing louder than the audience's chants while straightening his tie _

This nation of worship and ice
This nation suffered more than it should
But we will fight for it and fight for it and fight for it
This nation of worship and ice
This nation suffered more than it should
But we will fight for it and fight for it and flight for it

Burkes realises that he sang "warship" and "fight" incorrectly, and becomes nervous, gesturing Enciso, who is only staring at his guitar while playing it and ignoring both Burkes and the audience, to hurry up and finish the song _
This nation of worship and ice

This nation of warship and ice

The song abruptly ends, and to Burkes' surprise, is met with applause from the audience. Burkes and Enciso bow to the audience before promptly escaping from the stage.

Annie Manneldoo - "Time Travel"

Language(s): English

Tune: Ella Endlich - Sternschwimmer
Additional Information
Lyrics: Otto Tune
Music: Otto Tune
Trigramme: BPE

About the Singer

Annie Manneldoo is a twenty-five year old singer from Wilburforce, Beepee.  She has been singing from the age if 16 in the various clubs and bars around her local area.

She was encouraged by her father, a local merchant, to pursue her interest in music from a young age, and is a self taught guitar and piano player.

Picked by prolific beepeean songwriting royalty, Otto Tune, specifically for his song Time Travel he calls her voice both "wistful" and a "powerhouse".

About the Song Writer

Otto Tune has written some of Beepee's must internationally successful songs, including last editions winning song "Back to the Highlands", performed  by Melba Tohst.

Indeed, Otto Tune has been prolific in internal competition.  "Time Travel" represents his seventh World Hit Festival entry  following on from entries in WHFs 64, 72, 60, 59, 54, and 53. In addition, Otto Tune has written songs for Worldvision Song Contest, Junior World Hit Festival, Vha Mehlodhivestoile and Worldvision Teams.

Annie Manneldoo in Hercules

Annie Manneldoo arrived in Hercules, the town had been painted, polished and scrubbed in advance of the festival.

The whole town was abuzz in anticipation.  Even the weather wanted to take part with the sun shining and the himmel-blau sky reflecting in the azure waters.

Tourists and fans had made their way to the city. Traders from all over Beepee had set up marketstalls in the harbourside centre. All melding together in a cacophony if sights and sounds.

Banners and flags fluttered in the warm wind blowing in off the sea.  It brought with it the smells of sweet warm cinnamon buns from the trading stalls.  The smells of spices and  coffee fills the air.

Annie made her way through the marketstalls, seller's taking advantage of the tourists with local Beepeean produce and World Hit Festival merchandise, cds, scarves, t-shirts.

She sat at the harbour eating an apple cake, staring out over the bay.     Her mind drifted back to her performance and the task at hand.  In her mind she tried to visualise her dance routine to meet the marks set out for her that she has been practicing for weeks.

Before she finished her cake, she was interrupted by a couple of Gozoan fans for a selfie.

Performance

The stage is set in complete darkness. On the large LED screen behind the stage lights streak forward, a spray of gas erupts from the front of the diamond shaped stage.

Slowly descending from the roof is a large time machine slowly descends from the rafters. In the seat is Annie Manneldoo.  She smiles and waves to the audience in the auditorium.  The highly partisan crowd yell and cheer back.

As the time machine touches down on the stage, Annie steps out form the machine wearing a sparkling silver leotard.

The music begins, and the time machine raises again the the rafters.

Annie stands lifts her mic and sings looking directly down the camera for the at home audience.  Flashes of light spray across her face and sparkling leotard.

Back, to yesterday
To, hear the words
I, wish you didn't say
I'd build a time machine, where'd I head towards?

Na-na-na-na-na na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na na-na-na-na-na

Ad the na-na-na's are being sung, two beefcake dancers join Annie on stage.  Theire dressed in a black mesh see through tops with black denim jeans.  The trio dance in a modern interpretative dance to the beat.

As the chorus begins the two backing dancers lift and throw each other in the airing the background as Annie contiunes...

If it was only so easy, I know I'd find a way
Get back to the beginning, to that happy day (happy day)
All the things I'd do over, all the words I'd say
All For only one moment, if it'd make you stay (make you stay)

A whiff of smoke from smoke machines located at the front of the stage begins to flow across the stage, in an attempt to give an eerie look to the performance as Annie is once again joined by the beefy backing dancers...

I would time travel, time travel,
Time travel, time travel,
I would time travel, time travel,
Ooh-oh

As the outro to the chorus is sung, Annie and her backing dancers undertake a choreographed routine that involved a lot of pointing and shoulder shrugs.

As the next stanza is performed, the Beepeean show director cuts between images of Annie and the Audience.  On the screen behind Annie, clocks and timepieces fly across the screen like some surreal Salvador dali painting.

Back, to yesteryear,
When we were so happy, it all seemed so clear (seemed so clear)

Na-na-na-na-na na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na na-na-na-na-na

As the na-na-na's are sung  another two beefcakes now appear on stage to join Annie and the other two backing dancers. Dressed int he same outfit.  They dance the hypnotic interpretive dance.

If it was only so easy, I know I'd find a way
Get back to the beginning, to that happy day (happy day)
All the things I'd do over, all the words I'd say
All For only one moment, if it'd make you stay (make you stay)

I would time travel, time travel,
Time travel, time travel,
I would time travel, time travel,
Ooh-oh

As she sings the "time travel" section of the chorus, the director uses special digital effects to multiply the screen, first to result in 2 then 4 then 8 and finally to so that there are 16 identical versions of the shot shown on the same screen at once.  It's generally effective and then snaps back to one screen as Annie contiunes through the slow down...

If it were only easy
I would go back in time
Back to the time you were mine

As she sings the below, the director uses a strobe effect on Annie which makes her look like she's warping through time as she and her backing dancers sway to the beat.  As the beat picks up again, the effect comes to an end and Annie and her dancers contiune...

If it was only so easy, I know I'd find a way
Get back to the beginning, to that happy day
All the things I'd do over, all the words I'd say
All For only one moment, if it'd make you stay (make you stay)

As the outro is beginning the director chooses to zoom in from the back auditorium over the audience to the stage, as the time machine descends again from the rafters of the auditorium.

I would time travel, time travel,
Time travel, time travel,
I would time travel, time travel,

I would time travel, time travel,
Time travel, time travel,
I would time travel, time travel.

As the outro contiunes, one by one the backing dancers run off stage until only Annie and one of the  ackig  dancers remain.  The time machine 'lands' back on the stage and Annie is helped in before the backing dancers runs around and jumps in the passenger seat.

The time machine then lifts off once more and the lighting fades to darkness.  The performance ends, and out of the darkness, Annie yells thank you.

Kanye Diggit - "Say The Word"

Language(s): English
Tune: Kevin Brain Smith - 1.000 Kilometer Freiheit
Additional Information
Lyrics: Ivana Tucker
Music: Ivana Tucker
Trigramme: NBP

At 2m10 Kanye Diggit towers over everyone in his family and weighing almost 400lbs he's a barrel of a man.

His dark hair shorn to a neat cut, his face plump and fresh, he stands in the centre of the main stage with a two tone wooden guitar strapped across his shoulder. In front of him, he focusses his mic stand, trying to block out the din from the many World Hit Festival fans filling the auditorium in front of him.

The flashes from mobile phones of people trying to take a photo of him on stage unnerved him and he sighs deeply to expel his nerves.

Over to the side of the stage, the wind machine is flicked on and a cooling breeze flutters over his face ruffling at his long back t-shirt and dark green waistcoat. He tugs them down, almost instinctually trying to get them to behave.

Behind him on stage a large, papier mache tree. Filled with pink cherry blossom and moss green leaves.

On stage with him, is his band, a drummer, a bass guitarist, elecric and slide guitars, they pepper the stage behind him around the base of the tree.

The postcard comes to an end and the stage is awash with bright light. He can no longer see the audience on front of him. Kanye blinks into the void as his band strikes up.

The music begins and a wave of comfort washes over Kanye, all of his practice and rehearsal have lead this moment. A smile washes over his face as he begins.

We're walking through a forest
'neath a canopy of stars
Looking for the one to wish upon
And almost without warning
I can see it in your eyes
The look of love is stirring with the dawn

Kanye gently strums his guitar. As he contiunes to the chorus. The stadium lighting changes from bright white through canary yellows towards golden hues.

And I don't wanna run
You're all I ever wanted
All I ever really needed in a man
With you here right beside me
Nothing can fright me
Oh oh oh
You're all I ever wanted
All I've ever really needed in a man
As we're watching the sun rise
Reflecting in our eyes
Oh oh oh
I wanna say the word

As the second verse begins, the cherry blossom begins to fall from the tree gently fluttering down, brought down by the windmachine and slowly billowing across the stage.

We walk among the tall grass
The sun burns the mist away
I can see forever in your smile
I could spend a lifetime searching
I could search in others eyes
I might even taken a second glance once in a while

As the song continues lighting effects in the auditorium changes from golden hues through russet and chestnut tones.

The blossom is gradually blown off stage, and now the moss leaves themselves begin to fall to the ground.

Kanye smiles as he continues to play his guitar. The band and the audience also appear to be having fun.

But I don't wanna look
You're all I ever wanted
All I ever really needed in a man
With you here right beside me
Nothing can fright me
Oh oh oh
You're all I ever wanted
All I've ever really needed in a man
As we're watching the sun rise
Reflecting in our eyes
Oh oh oh
I wanna say the word

As the song is heading to its conclusion, Kanye swings his guitar around his ample body and grasps at the mic stand.

Felling the song, beads og perspiration can be seen on his brow.

I wanna say the word

As we're watching the sun rise
Reflecting in our eyes
Oh oh oh
You're all I ever really wanted

As the song ends, and right on cue, the final leaf falls from the tree and is scuttled off stage by the wind machine.

Kanye smiles knowing he's done his best and waves graciously to the audience.

Margaritë - "Penšandu"

Language(s): Kalosian
Title Translation: Thinking
Tune: Camélia Jordana - Silence
Additional Information
Lyrics: Piédru Kruž, Margaritë Saveli
Music: Fernandu Arago, Piédru Kruž, Marko Tošini
Trigramme: KLS

Prior to the pandemic, Margaritë Saveli worked as a live music performer in bars and cafes in Cafalon, where she was born and raised. When COVID-19 landed on Kalosian shores, she recorded her portfolio and uploaded them onto streaming platforms independently. Granted, there weren't many listeners and she did not earn much from streams. Thanks to her many connections in the local FnB scene, she was able to get by doing part-time kitchen work.

When restrictions started to lift up, she performed where she could. When her usual bars weren't yet offering live music, she dabbled in becoming a street musician. It was on a Thursday night in August last year that she performed at her usual venue, a rustic eatery serving traditional Cafalonesque fare, when one of the patrons in her presence was a showbiz executive from Monterra visiting the city on a business trip. It was a coincidence really; the businessman he was visiting had booked a table at his favourite restaurant to network with the industry rep, and there was no intention to use the dinner as a scouting session. But yet, there they were.

In this day and age where everything is about internet popularity, it may be hard to believe that talent is still being discovered using such old-fashioned methods. But here, that was the case. Surely, it couldn't be just Margaritë's voice. Could it have been her looks? Her charisma? Truth be told, although she gladly accepted the offer to come to Monterra, she had second thoughts after having spent time with the guy on his home turf (i.e. his office), who turned out to be pretty aggressive and rude all around. A little creepy even. But luckily for her, she was assigned to a much nicer team, who made sure that she was comfortable and safe at all times.

Since then, her professional career has been off to a modest start. She's had the chance to open for a couple of Kalosian acts on tour, giving her a bit of a following. But now, it was her time to shine.

Kalosia, represented by the broadcaster Radiu-Televižio Kalosia, withdrew from the 64th World Hit Festival in Scotatrova due to logistical issues. With resources being diverted and allocated towards the bidding and eventual hosting of the 100th WorldVision Song Contest in Monterra, in the aftermath there was somehow not enough funds in the budget to secure a full participation in the WHF. There were only two options: have the act fund their own participation (including travel and accommodation costs, staging, promotional activities), or simply not participate at all. Considering the current RTVK approach of using WHF as a platform for small/newcoming artists (while established acts get sent to WorldVision), and with a lack of time to identify suitable, financially-viable candidates, it was with a heavy heart that Kalosia announced its withdrawal from the festival, promising to come back stronger than ever.

And well, here we are now. With plans for a revamped Festival dële Melodie Kalosiane stalling, the act was once again internally selected. In the end, Margaritë's application, prepared and submitted by her managerial team, was accepted and she was announced as the act for WHF.

The song, titled "Penšandu" (Thinking), was composed by the same team that wrote 'Nël garda mi' by Ǧiada, which failed to qualify from the 59th Festival dëla Kanžu Kalosianë in 2020 but ended up becoming one of the most commercially successful tracks from that year's competition. As it so happens, the three are also WHF veteran songwriters. Fernandu Arago wrote the ever popular 'Veramentë' (WHF49), Piédru Kruž wrote 'Komë molti ani fa' (WHF53), and Marko Tošini is the most recent returnee, having written 'Suprë lë mar' (WHF57).

The song is sung from the perspective of a person whose lover is absent from her life for unexplained reasons, possibly a long-distance relationship where her partner frequently travels. It emerges that this is no longer an ideal situation for her to be in, and she makes the bitter decision to leave and seek someone who can provide her with love more consistently.

For the big night in Hercules, Kalosia was drawn to perform 11th and last, closing the show. With the world viewing 10 other amazing entries prior to her turn, the buildup of the show meant that there was a lot of pressure to go out with a bang. The song, however, is a bit laid back, so while the staging won't be over-the-top, Margaritë and her team hopes that it will be good enough to win the hearts of voters.

For her performance, Margaritë is wearing a bright yellow sundress which complements the summery vibe of her song. As the song begins, she is at the back of the stage, as a silhouette. Once it is her turn to start singing, the lights come on, although the LED screen won't be used in this performance. She begins to stroll down the catwalk, making her way to the main stage.

Dišël mi, dišël mi, dišel mi or
Komë stajëz?
Tristežë, tristežë, tristežë va
Kadë staj u ťita

Li žorni sonu lungi
Antë soñu, vena l’albë
Le lakrime sonu tropu
Ja meretu di meľu

At this point, she just about makes it to the end of the catwalk, where it meets the main stage. In front of her, it turns out, there are two dancers, both dressed in all-black. The female one is wearing a sleeveless top and a knee-length skirt, while the male one is wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants.

While Margaritë stands there for now, the attention is shifted to our pair of dancers, who circle around the stage doing interpretive dance that utilizes body language to convey the emotions being told in the story of this song.

Penšandu, penšandu
Di felišita mia
Në pošu sparñarë lo
Per kelkun’ kë në torna

Lašandu, lašandu
Da tia silenžio
Au fatu mia skeltë
Es tristë pero bon

A few audience shots, and shots from the audience, during this short intermezzo. Meanwhile, a mic stand is set up at the center of the stage, which Margaritë sings from.

Penšandu, penšandu
Lašandu, lašandu

Now, the male dancer is nowhere to be seen, and the female dancer is by herself, acting visibly sad. She is to the right of Margaritë.

Al improvisu tu veni a mi
Ma ankorë
Në poševi da mi kelë šertežë
Kë au besoñu ja

Now the dancer gets up and starts making her way to the back of the stage.

Poj ja faťu la vališë
Vadu ala fermatë
E sapu kë domani
Sara unë novë žornatë

As we come back to the chorus, the male dancer suddenly appears and runs toward her from the main stage. Halfway down the catwalk, he grabs her hand and they do a bit of choreography.

Penšandu, penšandu
Di felišita mia
Në pošu sparñarë lo
Per kelkun’ kë në torna

As the pair continue to do choreography, they seem to make their way back to the main stage.

Lašandu, lašandu
Da tia silenžio
Au fatu mia skeltë
Es tristë pero bon

The camera focuses on Margaritë for a bit.

Penšandu, penšandu
Lašandu, lašandu

Now the dancers are embracing each other in a very intimate moment. Close up shots are appropriately chosen, alternating between the dancers and Margaritë.

Si tu voľi, tu poši venirë
Dovi prometerë mi
Si tu veni, dal mi tiu amurë
Ma n’abandonal mi

Now the stage lights become a bit more dim. Margaritë continues to sing, while the female dancer gets up, heads to the back of the stage, and leaves. The male dancer attempts to follow her but lets go after a few steps.

Penšandu, penšandu
Di felišita mia
Në pošu sparñarë lo
Per kelkun’ kë në torna

Now we get a bit of solo choreography from the male dancer, whose moves express regret. Then he too goes to the back of the stage and leaves.

Lašandu, lašandu
Da tia silenžio
Au fatu mia skeltë
Es tristë pero bon

Now the cameras focus on Margaritë as the stage lights come back on again. We also get to see the backing singers, who only came on stage during the first chorus, and thus had previously been out of view from the camera. They are situated at the back of the stage.

Penšandu, penšandu
Di felišita mia
Në pošu sparñarë lo
Per kelkun’ kë në torna

Lašandu, lašandu
Da tia silenžio
Au fatu mia skeltë
Es tristë pero bon

Now, Margaritë takes the mic off the mic stand and, singing the next part, makes her way down the catwalk back to the back of the stage. While doing so, she extends her hand to the audience members on the side of the stage. After making it to the back of the stage, she turns back and faces the audience. And as the lights dim, she sings the final lines of the song.

Penšandu, penšandu
Lašandu, lašandu
Penšandu, penšandu
Lašandu, lašandu

And that's it — the final entry of the festival is over. The audience cheers. The backing singers and dancers walk towards Margaritë, and they have a little moment celebrating the success of their performance. Margaritë says, "Thank you Hercules!" and takes a bow together with her team, before the camera pans back to the host of the show.

Tell me, tell me, tell me now
How are you?
Sadness, sadness, sadness goes away
When you’re in town

The days are long
Sunrise comes before I can dream
The tears are too much
I deserve better

Thinking, thinking
Of my happiness
I can’t save it
For someone who doesn’t come back

Leaving, leaving
From your silence
I made my choice
It’s sad but good

Thinking, thinking
Leaving, leaving

Suddenly you came to me
But still
You couldn’t give me the certainty
That I need

So I pack my bags
I go to the bus stop
And I know that tomorrow
Will be a new day

Thinking, thinking
Of my happiness
I can’t save it
For someone who doesn’t come back

Leaving, leaving
From your silence
I made my choice
It’s sad but good

Thinking, thinking
Leaving, leaving

If you want, you can come
But you must promise
If you come, give me your love
But don’t abandon me

Thinking, thinking
Of my happiness
I can’t save it
For someone who doesn’t come back

Leaving, leaving
From your silence
I made my choice
It’s sad but good

Thinking, thinking
Of my happiness
I can’t save it
For someone who doesn’t come back

Leaving, leaving
From your silence
I made my choice
It’s sad but good

Thinking, thinking
Leaving, leaving
Thinking, thinking
Leaving, leaving
