Satellites could see what any satellite would see, and indeed what nobody could hide. Trench lines now were being prepared at major defensive points – some primary, some secondary, and some, of course, fake trenches, only a quarter-depth, but indistinguishable from aerial observation. Aircraft were rotated between airbases, and decoys were used to further confuse the matter. Reservists queued at Ministry of Defense offices, receiving uniforms and taken by bus and truck to military bases.

The Allaneans received the message, and they had responded to it. The Allaneans would send help, and instructors, and money – but for the next few days the government of Ethiopia was on its own. All they could send for now was advice.

Office of the Mayor of Addis Ababa

The mayor’s face was ashen as he spoke into the camera. He understood the need for the measures that he was about to enunciate but he was afraid, afraid of what they implied. At least I’m not a soldier. Nobody can expect me to be brave in this circumstance, he thought.

”Pursuant to the emergency… pursuant to the emergency situation, I am hereby announcing that bus services in the city will be reduced. The city workers will be entirely acting under the… the instructions of Colonel Nasse, of the Combat Engineer Branch… we are temporarily suspending the operations of all road works… “

He felt as if he was in a haze when he spoke the words.

construction permits are hereby suspended…

construction equipment to be temporarily put at the disposal of the armed services…

remain calm…

Other cities and towns were doing the same. The exact actions taken varied but the same principle remained – state of emergency declared, mass transit operations reduced, construction equipment put under military jurisdiction.

The clock ticked away.

Units would start getting ready, while bombers were being armed and loaded, a massive air campaign would darken the skies over Ethiopia. Chaos drones were being readied on transport planes to be dropped on top of the enemies A few sleepers cells would be activated, committing Terror attacks with chemical weapons. The radical Islamist organization Liberation of the Horn would claim they committed attacks. Black Hand agents were gathering information, bribing corrupt officials and planting bombs on any infrastructure and AA sites they could find. The mood at HQ was hectic as they had not planned for this.

"This is too much, look at this. Trenches are being dug, divisions readied. I told you we should have attacked them earlier"
"Calm yourself my brother. Do not let panic consume you. Trenches shall become mass graves as we will simply choke them like rats. The equipment they used is ours, made during the Soviet era by our engineers. We know their weakness and their strengths. If the Italians beat them so can we
"I pray you are right my brother"

The first convoys arrived at the border.

"We are part of the fleeing survivors. Here is the documentation"
A small piece of paper was given to the border guard along with a "gift"
"I hope there are no problems

Turncoat divisions were being prepared. Some are armed with soviet era equipment while other even have ww2 era guns. They were not expected to survive but only to act as bait.

Border

The border guard shook his head. "Not possible. New orders." - he looked at the refugees gathered before him - "New orders came in earlier today. Border is closed, I am sorry. No refugees, no trade. Nothing." - he pressed his lips together, ashamed of what he had to do. To him, those men and women were refugees, people just like himself - he did not know about the connection between the refugees and the terror attacks, nor of any enemy plans involving them. "I am very sorry." - he said.

At an AA site near Adis Abbaba, late at night

As the agent approached, he heard a guttural, angry voice. “Who are you? Don’t come any closer! If this is some joke you will be sorry!”

Border
This would be picked up by the officers in charge of the attacks. He would turn to his superior.
"What should we do now brother"
"Tell them to floor it and try to go it as deep as possible, activate the last trucks payload once in rage. I wil llet high command know

"May the Stars bless me" Said the driver as he started charging forwards allowing with the rest of the convoy. The final one detonated once in range of the border outpost spewing the Mantorok virus everywhere along with some chemicals

The refugees still not sent away were killed while the bomb trucks would be used for other attacks

Adis Abbaba

As he activated his suicide vest "In the name of Nirin" said the operative before exploding in a ball of fire.

The border guard still standing in the open was instantly killed, vaporized by the explosion immediately. Others, under cover in the guard post itself, returned fire with small arms, firing at the enemy as they pulled back - but of course they too were soon overcome by the chemical weapons.

Similar attacks blazed at border posts elsewhere, and the border service was soon overcome with the violence, several of the border posts were destroyed.

Yet they had served their purpose.

The leadership in Addis Abab knew now that war had started.

Emergency broadcasts were made immediately on television and radio - all mass transit services beyond the crucial are suspended, all school services suspended, university education to be online-only.... - fighter aviation scrambled and put on air patrol - SAM launchers patrolling, weapons ready and elevated - city police patrolling with assault rifles. War had begun.

Ethiopia
The turncoat division were first push forwards. They would attack along the whole border in a mass assault while artillery would wait for the enemy to open fire at then bomb them with chemicals and fire.Behind them the main force with air cover. Air attacks would commence with bombers and fighter starting their runs ready to poison the land itself. Explosions were all over Ethiopia as the explosives were activated, some at military infrastructure while others at schools, hospitals, malls and other civilian places. Lakes and water supplier were being infected with the Mantorok virus. The 6th Somali fleet along with the Genesis corps submarines armed with Burst missiles were being rerouted to the coast.

Egypt
The Cairo Brotherhood was getting ready to strike Sudan. Ethiopia would be on everyone eyes letting them crush Sudan and strike at the North of Ethiopia. They would prove their loyalty and worth to the Cult

SIC
Akephalos was in orbit but it would take to charge its weapon. Everyone thinks its just a normal satellite, what they do not know is the existence of its Ion cannon. A Highly precise weapon but it takes time to charge and its radius of damage was low

It was a day of tragedy.

Hundreds of civilians died, slain within hours of each other by suicide bomber attacks throughout the country. Soldiers were dying in their hundreds as well, perhaps thousands would die soon.

But it was also a day of defiance.

The battle in the air
As the enemy aircraft crossed over into Ethiopian air space, air defense sites around the country opened fire. First there were the short-range, Kub missile launchers, two dozen of them, firing their entire pauyload – three missiles each – at the enemy bombers. Then, as the surviving bombers would approach the capital, strategic SAMs would fire, dozens of missiles streaking towards the invaders.

Finally, the country’s Su-27 fighters turned towards the foe. These, in turn, fired on the enemy fighters – each of them was carrying an armament of four air-to-air RT-27T1 missiles. Riding at high altitude, the Ethiopian pilots released their payload at the enemy.

[b]The battle on the ground[/]b

Even as the enemy tanks were coming near, a hissing sound was heard – plop, plop, plop. Just as they could already hear the enemy vehicle engines, the Ethiopian troops acticaed their personal mining kits. Dozens of anti-tank mines, hundreds of anti-personnel mines were planted minutes before the enemy could arrive.

This accomplished, the Ethiopians withdrew into their trenches, putting on gas masks as they prepared to fight. Overhead, dozens, then hundreds, then thousands, of simple, civilian drones sailed, searching for the enemy.

Ground Battle
The turncoats suffered heavy loses but whats left still pushed forwards absorbing enemy fire, behind them chaos drones advanced. Small drones loaded with chemicals, too light for AT mines but just enough for anti personnel. The turncoats luckily cleared most the mines allowing the drones to enter the trenches with small loses, deploying inside they emitted a piercing noise before dispersing their payload. The main force attacked unleashing hell with their flame tanks. Artillery unleashed incendiary and chemicals weapons towards the enemy now knowing their positions. Mobile Mantis SAM sites and Lasher Light tanks also opened fire on the drones. Armed with two miniguns they are inaccurate but deadly in large number. 20 Planes were are called in to do CAS missions

Addias Ababa
The air force took significant losses but bombers still reached the city some even crashing in the city detonating all their payload , terrorizing the populace, fighters would engage enemy planes while also acting as bait Buildings were leveled and entire areas were on fire or toxic. Some bombs even landed on Holy Trinity cathedral. More terror attacks occurred with other major cities targeting infrastructure, some even used chemicals in warehouses hoping to damage food and water supplies

Ground battle

As the enemy approached, they discovered that many of the mines were not in fact triggered by the weight of the enemy drones – instead, they contained magnetic and pitch sensors, the first, detonating if metal objects over several dozen kilograms approached, and the second, if the mine was nudged or pushed.

In the trenches, the Ethiopians fought ferociously, with rifle and grenade, bayonet and machete. Camouflaged in separate fighting positions, ATGM crews fired at the enemy tanks and then vanished again.

And now – overhead – the time had come for the counterattack.

Thirty-six Grad MRLS fired from six different positions unloading their entire rocket packs within three minutes, the entire front line submerged in detonations as cluster warheads shrieked towards the enemy forces as they approached the trench. The artillery units, meanwhile, remained still silent.

Air battle

Ethiopian fighter pilots did not seek close combat with the enemy fighters, rather they fled, ascending as far as they could – and simultaneously, the missile batteries continued firing at those enemy aircraft that survived the initial barrage – after all, they now needed to fly home, over the same missile batteries that had shot them up the first time.
