So I have lost a few puppets as I was inactive studying for finals. I seem to have lost a few puppets and I would like to know if there is any website or tool that is legal to use so I can see what puppets were ever in the region.

But after a certain amount of activity time, the puppet's names will disappear and not be recoverable.

Why? A nation that you do not log into for four weeks will cease to exist. If those nations have a population below 500 million and have not been logged into for five or more years - and I am confident that you have not been playing NS since early 2017 - then those nations will be released for anyone to register.

I keep my puppets listed, with details including when they were last logged-in & whether they are in vacation mode, in an Excel file.
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

You can check to see if there was an archive snapshot taken during the period when your puppets were still achieve, but it's a bit of a shot in the dark on whether or not there'd be a archive taken, and if your puppets appeared on that archive should it exist.

Genuine question, why wouldn't you keep your puppets in Vacation mode?

Bit of a long shot, but you could try using the Wayback Machine to get a snapshot of the region page from a while ago. It might help.

Considering BA answers issues frequently on their puppets to my knowledge, I suspect that’d be why, since vacation disables receiving issues.

But doesn't it require human input?

You can check old data dumps from dates when the puppets were alive (https://www.nationstates.net/page=archive). All regions are listed, so you can just search for a region and look at the list of nations in it. If you can't, feel free to give me the region and a date they were alive, and I can get you a list of all the nations there at that time.

Yeah, the files and page itself are pretty big cause they save all the info on NS. Depends on how strong your PC is, but it can take a few minutes at least to load.
