Introduction

This is the official signup thread for the Campionato Esportiva 33, Esportiva's longest running and biggest sports tournament. This football tournament has produced 17 different winners, with Nephara/New Sideburn and Brenecia holding the record for the most Campionato titles with five apiece, and Apox having three titles to their name. The most recent winner of the tournament held in Ethane was South Newlandia, winning their first Campionato Esportiva trophy after winning against Brenecia in the final.

Signup Instructions

Nations intending to sign up for the tournament should be in Esportiva at the time of the creation of the thread. Nations returning from CTE and have participated in previous editions may enter at the discretion of the elected hosts or the organizers of the tournament.

Ultimately, however, the decision on who participates will be up to the elected host of the tournament.

Users are entitled to enter two nations, with one on puppet status which should be declared and confirmed by both nations. Kindly note that puppet signups may be purged from the entry list as per hosts' discretion, and normally the first puppets to be dropped are the ones signed up the latest. Nations entering with a different in-character (IC) name should include this in boldface in their signup to be recognized.

Hosting

Signed-up nations who intend to host the tournament should post their bids in this thread to be considered for voting. There is no prescribed number of users to host, though usually solo or joint host bids from two distinct users have been the norm for these kinds of tournaments. Bids posted should have the following information: How the tournament will be run (format), how the scores will be generated (scorination tool and parameters), and why should participants entrust you to run the tournament (OOC information and experience). The previous successful bid for the tournament is posted in the header for reference.

Bids will be opened by the time signups are open and will remain open within two weeks from opening the signup thread. Once the first bid is posted, other nations are given 5 days to submit competing bids in which 2 days will be allotted thereafter for participants to lodge queries on the bids.

In case no bids are posted within two weeks, the CE committee may put up an emergency bid within the week succeeding the two-week period, which may be withdrawn once a proper bid is posted.

Other Information

This thread may be used in lieu of the regional message board (RMB) for CE33-related discussions, and will serve as the discussion thread upon closure of signups.

The organizers of this tournament reserves the right to make adjustments to the admin side of the tournament in case needed. Should you have any queries, don't hesitate to ask Tumbra via the usual channels (TG, RMB, and the NS Sports Discord channel).

Ha'Yarok CE33 Bid

The United Zionist Republic of Ha'Yarok bids to host the finals of the CE33.

Format

The basic format of the bid will be relatively straightforward. Equal sized seeded groups, playing single round robin, with the top X teams progressing automatically and the remaining top Y finishers progressing to get an even 16 in the Round of 16. In the case of 24 signups, 6 groups of 4 will be used. In the case of another number of signups, another number of groups and sizes will be used. The system allows for most non-prime numbers (and those can be rounded down by cutting puppets, including Hannasea). Tiebreakers will be points, GD, H2H, coin flip.

The top 16 will be seeded (group winners first, then group runners-up, then if included any third place teams); and will play a single elimination game. The 8 winning teams will be the lucky few who actually (after rigorous security checks) travel to Ha'Yarok to play quarterfinals, semifinals, and final + 3PPO.

Stadium bids

Ha'Yarok is a relatively small country. Only two of its stadiums seat over 40,000 and only a further two seat over 30,000. Additionally, international travel to Ha'Yarok, while not risky, requires effective security precautions. This effectively means each game needs to be played on a separate day in order to commit sufficient security. This makes it technically implausible that the entire group stage could be hosted in Ha'Yarok without the tournament being unnecessarily delayed. Therefore, only the 8 final games will be played here.

The group stages and Round of 16 games will be played at stadiums around the region, in the spirit of "Together in Union". (Ha'Yarok is not actually a member of the Esportivan Union, but don't worry, this is clearly not an attempt at diplomatic sportwashing while not holding ourselves to the legal and moral standard required of EU member nations.) Any nation in Esportiva (even those not competing) can provide up to 2 stadiums to be used. Stadiums must meet capacity requirements and the countries must be safe enough to travel to, but there are no other restrictions or requirements.

The hosts will select from the stadium bids and assign venues for the groups. Note that bidders are not guaranteed home advantage for all games even if their stadium is accepted.

Scorination

I will be using xkoranate with NSFS, additive style mods. Scorination will be every 48 hours. I may publish some RP bonus data (anonymized) depending on how much RPing there is. There will be a roster bonus as well but no roster penalty this time.

No other sports

Ha'Yarok does not have the infrastructure to host tournaments in other sports on the scale of the Esportivan Sporting Festival (CE31). The exception is basketball, but given the clash with IBC, the Esportivan Basketball Trophy will not be held now either. Ha'Yarok and Hannasea may run an Esportivan Basketball Trophy in a month's time, as a quick one-hit event. Otherwise this is back to just being a soccer tournament.

Extras

Much like CoH80, I will run a "Goal of the Tournament" competition. Each user can nominate a goal of their tournament (which they can interpret however they like... most skilful? historic? lucky? comical?) and at the end we will vote on them.
