SUDITE CRIMINAL AND LEADER OF INTERNATIONAL CRIME SYNDICATE KALINO MAKAIAU CAPTURED IN ROENDAVAR

5th of June, 2022 (4er vi Helanthacil, 2820 AE)

LANDHIS INTHIL, BAELETH, SUDEVER - Sudite criminal, warlord, and mobster Kalino Makalau was finally captured in the collective of Landhis Inthil near the city of Baeleth during a late night raid conducted by the HEI and RRG on the evening of June 4, 2022.

Kalino Makalau is listed as one of the Western Isles’ most wanted criminals. He is the leader of the Kaialanis, a crime syndicate and organization that was responsible for many heinous crimes in Sud. The Kaialanis are complicit and have masterminded many political and prominent assassinations during Sud’s tumultuous times and took advantage of power vacuums to cement themselves as a significant force in Sudite politics and society. The Kaialanis also funnelled drugs in and out of Sud through international smuggling. The group is involved in human trafficking, international drug trade, and organized crime. Other crimes committed by the Kaialanis are bribing politicians and police, intimidation and coercion, and engaging in indiscriminate violence throughout the streets of Sud. Kalino Makalau himself is surrounded with stories, with tales of ritualistic cannibalism, witchcraft, and human sacrifice. This has cemented Kalino Makalau’s dark reputation in Sud, a terrifying figure that has embedded himself in Sudite culture and society.

On November 16, 2018, under the new government of Jacob Lenana, Sudite police identified the Kaialanis’ headquarters and raided the compound, resulting in one of the bloodiest modern urban battles in Sud with 17 soldiers and 6 police dead, in contrast to 64 Kaialani deaths and 31 civilian deaths. However, it was soon found out that they were already tipped off by elements within the Sudite government and Kalino Makalau managed to escape the country. He would soon travel across the Western Isles incognito and evade capture using already established vast networks of international connections. On June 4, 2022, the Golden House was tipped off by an anonymous source that Kalino Makalau was operating somewhere in the city of Corveis. In the following weeks, both the HEI and the RRG planned an assault to finally capture the international criminal. Kalino Makalau resided in a three-block residential complex owned by the leader of the Avildhinascari, Thelaran Maielastheri Andaviel. It was revealed that both of them had a professional working relationship, as currently, the Avildhinascari is one of the Cricenexinosi groups that are tagged with engaging in international crime and funded by both illicit means and Balniki support and would have worked with the Kaialanis. A contingent of 4 HEI agents and 15 RRGs were dispatched. At around 11 PM, the residential complex was infiltrated and the Roendavarian force was met with heavy gunfire. No civilians were reported to be present in the residential complex. The raid finished at around midnight. Overall, 1 HEI agent and 5 RRGs were wounded and, in contrast, 19 targets were neutralized and 9 surrendered, including Kalino Makalau. He was taken to the Baeleth Police Headquarters before being quickly transported through the late night to Camp Niles in Dociara, the headquarters of the Roendavarian Royal Guard.

Celion Faunus Eleos Caenalren Iralethias, accompanied by the three sitting Thronai and the Thraenacil of the HEI, Sylvanus Alerion Theresmilias, appeared on live television in a press conference at 8 AM. An excerpt from the Celion’s speech is as follows. “...another bane of peace and security in the Western Isles has finally been caught. Kalino Makalau’s reign of terror in Sud and his continued illicit activities throughout the Western Isles comes to a close. May this bring peace to those he and his group have haunted for decades. Thus, it is then our duty to ensure that he will be brought to trial, as soon as possible, with the highest form of retribution the Utopian Kingdom will dispense. We assure the international community that there will be justice.”

News of Kalino Makalau’s arrest has been touted in Roendavar as a victory against international crime. Secretary-General of the League of the Western Isles and Roendavarian native, Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia, released a statement, saying “Kalino Makalau’s arrest is one step forward towards a safer Western Isles. May this signal an era of international cooperation into dismantling current organized crime networks through the Western Isles.”. Elenthir of Law and Justice, Camenthilae Avielorcas Echielas, tweeted that “(The arrest) is a testament that Roendavar is one with the international community in combating international organized crime and is capable of securing domestic threats.”. Vilethnacil of the Baeleth Police, Mirferedhil Mandhaelos Cefenaesi, who led the police detachment during the raid, commented, “We take the threat of international organized crime seriously and, for it to be found within one of Roendavar’s city, is of a grave concern for us.”

While many celebrate Kalino Makalau’s arrest, talks on his sentencing and incarceration currently dominate the discussion. Roendavar’s legal system, while stable and incorruptible, is often described as generous and forgiving. Under Roendavarian law, the maximum prison sentence that one can serve is at 15 years, with possible extensions as decided by court in increments of 5 years, with the absolute maximum of 30 years regardless of number and severity of charges. Most notably, in 2019, a popular prison TV show from Scaedia, Sentences of Scaedia (Senten va Scaed), released an special international episode on Roendavar’s maximum security prison, Vildhialis Detention Center in Relanthir, which went viral over the internet. This was due to Roendavar’s policy of rehabilitation and “controlled isolation”, substantiated with tours of temperature controlled rooms, open libraries, personal heated tubs, high-speed internet, and many more that prisoners had free access to. Many over social media fear that the most notorious and dangerous criminal, responsible for the most heinous crimes imaginable, may serve his time in Vildhialis.

Kalino Makalau’s trial is scheduled on June 12, 2022. It has been announced that the trial will be done live on all forms of media. Heavy security is expected throughout the city of Dociara for the coming week.

Sud: Fears of disaster grow as heatwave intensifies
Author: Raelosi Editor Esmi Kelariys

Temperatures have already topped over 35C in Karanoa in recent days, with more days of extreme warmth likely as Raedlon grapples with deep heatwaves which have been recorded across nearby nations such as Belantica, Scaedia and Solaryia. Equally so, the nations of the Wake Islands are facing the highest temperatures they have seen in over five years if weather forecasts materialise over coming days. Meteorologists have Karanoa chalked to hit 39C on Friday, with the potential that the capital of the Republic of Sud going over 40C during the weekend. It is a part of a larger climatic pattern that is set to bring increasingly unstable and warm conditions over Raedlon in coming weeks, if not months.

This extreme heat follows on from a major storm cell impacting the nations of the Wake Islands last year - which devastated the Republic of Atolla and had severe impacts on Sud - particularly in isolated communities amongst the forests on the island. However, Karanoa by no means was spared with the capital taking months to fully recover from all the damage that was created. The event decayed government decision-making and the ability for the public service in the islands to function - a hit to the governments’ ability to respond to subsequent hazards created by the natural environment - such as this heatwave.

Prime Minister Jacob Lenana confirmed that he did not currently intend to declare a state of emergency in the nation in response to the growing threat that the heatwave has been causing.

“It is not my intention to erode the rights of the people of Sud unnecessarily by declaring a state of emergency when a disaster has not yet properly materialised. However - despite it not being declared, this is a very serious situation that we do face. Sud needs to come together. We need to look out for each other. We need to check on the vulnerable among us - children, those who work in manual labour outside and of course, the elderly and medically compromised.”, the Prime Minister stated.

The last point is being reaffirmed by the medical community across the Wake Islands, who largely have links to the University of the Wake Islands - one of the few institutions that brings the three nations together.

Professor Uriti Alatai, on behalf of the University, pleaded with people to take care of one another.

“We know that during the day temperatures are going to get very high. However, during the night temperatures will be unusually high which does not give our bodies the opportunity to cool down after a long day. We need to be taking steps now. Simple things like seeking shade, not exercising unless we need to and staying hydrated are key to making it through heatwaves. We see again and again - it is heat waves that pose the most significant threat to life for people. Do not underestimate heatwaves. Do not end up in one of our emergency departments.”

This is a difficult proposition given that many people who live in Sud work outdoors whether that be in markets, in mines or in the tourism sector. It is also made more difficult through the fact that not many people have the opportunity to access air conditioning. Owing to its cool temperate climate and oceanic influence, it would not normally be required and as such these sort of advanced cooling devices have not been prioritised. This includes a number of aged care homes and also the important University Hospital in Karanoa. In its absence, a loose network of fans of varying levels of effectiveness typically keep Sudites cool - which is problematic because once a certain air temperature is reached, fans lose their effectiveness. Sudites that do have air conditioning will likely face rolling blackouts and load-shedding in the nation, as is the usual practice when demand for power is high.

It is reassuring that the Rains over the Wake Islands have had the effect of recharging aquifers and creating moist topsoil across Sud which should improve the resilience of the nation to drought. This separates nations like Sud and Atolla from continental Raedlon, who are likely to face a higher risk of drought owing to them missing out on the worst of the rain front last year. However, the situation could quickly turn dire as a result of alleged water theft and groundwater mismanagement which has been blamed on corruption and corporations being able to evade authorities when they are acting unlawfully.

Despite these challenging circumstances, the Prime Minister also confirmed that no international aid has been sent in anticipation of the heatwave and the threat it likely poses to its people. Meanwhile, in Atolla - an Ioudaian-built hydroelectric dam that is soon coming into operation is likely to result in them being in less of a risk of power or water shortages. It is unclear how prepared Norregan is for the event, although it is suspected that the temperatures there will not get nearly as high as in Sud or Atolla.

More to come.

AVM Warned of Likely Eruption of Mount Rad’inga

Image
Mount Radinga, as seen from Amantapurna

AMANTAPURNA - Kilati Volcano Watch or Astumira Varingatana Maravi warned that Mount Rad’inga might erupt in the coming months, having raised the volcano’s Alertness Level from “Cautious (II)” to “Vigilant (III)”, indicating that the volcano is having increased activity and likelihood for eruption. Mount Rad’inga, located in Amernany, 200 km southwest of Amantapurna, the capital of Kilat, had been seeing increased volcanic activity such as seismic activity, which peaked at 10 volcanic earthquakes in a day, with some claiming that they felt the tremor in the capital.

The raising of Alertness Level prompted the state government to declare an exclusion zone of 10 km from the peak, which is home to five thousands people, mainly working in the abundant tea and coffee fields.

“No one can enter the exclusion zone with some exceptional circumstances, such as geologists or SAR teams. Currently we are patrolling the area to keep it safe from citizens.” announced Virsutarata K’uninga, the governor of Amernany.

The capital Amantapurna hasn’t declared any preparatory actions, citing the capital is far enough to withstand any eruption. Volcanologist said that the capital might be affected by volcanic ash and lahar floods, but it depends on the wind direction and how severe the eruption will be.

However, it hasn’t stopped people from leaving the capital, with 20,000 people already leaving for Kanegrie, and threatening the economic activity of the city, with some shops closing already. This has raised the price of flight from Amantapurna, with people complaining about airlines’ booking sites which crashed and stayed inaccessible for a few hours.

The city of Ratnakara, which is located on the slope of Mount Rad’inga has declared state of emergency and advised people to leave the city for safer places, providing subsidised ferries to Dakkerat on southern Kanegrie for its 30,000 inhabitants.

There are possibilities that AVM might reduce the alertness level again once it is clear that the volcanic activity has diminished enough, but most sources said that it won’t happen until next month.

Excerpt from The Orwellian Sentinel, #65, Vol. 42, article entitled "Government Offers Potential Trade Deal to Foreign Nation."

The Orwellian government, fresh from the installation of new leadership and the cancelation of isolationist policies, has begun to further observe foreign powers and their inner workings. From a campaign to the Eterna Sea comes an idea that the Minister of Surplus came up with.

The small island nation of Lofthus, located in the northeast Eterna Sea, has recently been going through many changes. Dissenting citizens, angry with the Lofthusiam government's adrupt establishment of certain ecenomic policies, have caused such a riot that the government of Lofthus has installed a surveillance policy utilizing drones to monitor their citizen's actions.

"The Ministry of Peace has proposed to send a ambassador to Lofthus to discuss a little ordeal that I have thought up. We will supply them with our own surveillance drones and any other law enforcement equipment they may need as well as a non-agression pact and economic support, and, in return, they provide us with diplomatic immunity and a small piece of unoccupied land to build a military base on. It is a deal they simply cannot refuse," the Minister of Surplus informs the public.

The OSI-LE 008 Mobile Surveillance Module, the drone in question, is the best in its class. Weighing in at a mere 4.2 pounds and made of a durable mix between polycarbonate, kevlar, and carbon fiber, it has a hardy aluminum subframe. It is equipped with ultra-high definition cameras with crisp sound recording capability, as well as seven other different sensors including but not limited to: motion detecting, infared, and 3d imaging. They connect wirelessly to a control source and have a broadcasting range of 120 miles. They can store up to 12 terabytes of video content for use by law enforcement officials, and are virtually unhackable. They are also 100% waterproof, fireproof, and are pressure tested up to 600 pounds. Price has not yet been confirmed, but a unit is said to be worth over 1000 credits.

An ambassador now awaits Lofthusian approval to journey to Flomo, the nation's capital, to speak with President Kai Palubiak, the nation's leader, about the deal.

"This is the first step in the new beginning, for sure," Big Brother says.

The Truth of Costavozka
June 6th, 2022
(Excerpt)

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Condemns Orwellian Support of Project Shield

NEW EDEVAR, June 6 -
The Costavozkan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after yet another shocking announcement on the usage of personal police drones, has issued an official response. As reported by the Orwellian Sentinel- the official propaganda outlet of the totalitarian rogue state otherwise known as the Orwell Society- the Orwellian Government has offered to provide their OSI-LE 008 surveillance drones to Lofthus in exchange for land in which to station a military force. This is most certainly a move by the Orwellian Government and Big Brother to undermine the fragile balance of power in the region. To Chancellor Costava, this is unacceptable. Our Chancellor- in an attempt to protect our people from possible international sabotage- has requested that the Ministry of Internal Affairs place a travel ban to Lofthus- in addition to the already in place travel ban to the Orwell Society- and that all non-immigration or non-diplomatic travel from these nations cease immediatley. In addition, Costava made a statement to the region and to Lofthus.

"[...] I implore the remaining nations of the Western Isles to carefully consider ceasing non-diplomatic or immigration travel to and from Lofthus immediatley as a sign of protest against these horrific crimes against the basic right of the citizens of the world to have privacy. To the leaders of Lofthus- I beg you- on behalf of your citizens- to end this clear violation of human rights immediatley. Your goal of preventing crimes might be noble, but your actions are not. To the people of Lofthus- Costavozka welcomes you, should you choose to leave your homes in search of a better life. For those of you who will not or cannot depart, do not yet lose sight or grasp of hope. [...]"

Sanctions against the Orwell Society as well as Lofthus are still in debate, however, they are starting to look more likely and necessary as the situation worsens. On how far Costavozka would be willing to go to end this despicable act is unknown. Several high-ranking officials were requested for a comment, but declined to answer. Time alone will tell what the future will bring.

Successful Naval Exercises Complete in Bay of Gael

June 2nd, 2022

A large naval exercise recently concluded in the Sea of Gael this weekend, one of the largest military collaborations of the Solaryi navy since the Imperial War. A combination of 34 ships and submarines took part in the exercise, 21 of them being Solaryi, with other ships flying under the flags of Scaedia, who had the second most ships taking part at 7, and then Nhoor and Belantica at 3 each. Leading the fleet was the Solis-Class carrier Marya Graznia, as well as the Scaedian flagship Vamga, a Dan-Class frigate.

Commanding the exercises were Solaryi Viseadmiral Heiski Filana, and Fleet Admiral Abram Nejad, representing Scaedia. High ranking officers from both Nhoor and Belantica were also aboard the various ships of their own navies.

Over the course of the exercises, which lasted just over two weeks, the combined fleet took part in a variety of smaller exercises on both sea and air. First including a harbor phase in Vallury, the fleet then traveled over the north of Gael through the Argean Sea. Once the fleet reached its destination they did maneuvaring drills, air defense exercises, submarine detection, cooperative replenishment and communications drills and various fighting scenarios and wargames. Upon completion, the drills were lauded as a great success, and Viseadmiral Filana commented that he has “high hopes” for closer cooperation in the future.

IHowever, the exercises were not without controversy. Held just days before a major international security conference in Gael, some have accused the nations of stoking tensions in the region. The drills were held close to the Balniki-occupied Faronna islands, and the very fact that the Raelosi fleet sailed east of Argus to launch exercises off the coast of Gael has raised suspicions throughout the region. In addition there was also some internal opposition to the drills. Nationalists within both Solaryia and Scaedia, most notably the Scaedic Nationalist Party, launched a series of protests and strongly worded statements against the greater military cooperation of the prospective ROS-states, who’s application to the region is said to complete within the next few weeks.

To the north are the Faronna Islands, claimed by both Balnik and Roendavar but currently occupied by Balnik.

Defense Monthly
Through the looking glass of Doraltic Security

May 2022 Web Edition

IDSC Highlights
INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT - The Annual International District Security Conference is set to be held early next month from June 10-11 with all the Isles in attendance. While particular details from the conference will be explored in next month's edition, highlights can gleam from announced or expectant appearances across the Western Isles' security world. This will be a collection of highlights of what our staff will be looking forward to at the conference.

1. Cedar Dyson's Keynote: It has been over a year since the attacks in Roendavar shook the Isles. In their wake, Dyson did the best any commander could while also being directly in the firing lines of still unidentified terrorist elements within Roendavar. The announcement from his office that he agreed to keynote this year's conference on the theme of "Realizing Regional Responsibility" highlights a new stance in his defense policy. As sources from within the Ministry of Defense already highlighted, Dyson appears to feel personally responsible for the attacks in Roendavar and has taken the responsibility of expanding Dormill and Stiura's security presence to prevent future attacks among its growing list of allies, which recently expanded into the South Mesder with the prospect of Doraltic bases in Laeden reportedly being a talking point between the two nations since the signing of several diplomatic agreements. Some anonymous sources reported that Dyson intends to use his keynote to announce a more serious shift in his policies, including a deeper strategic relationship with Roendavar, which if true could represent a paradigm shift in Gael's security outlook and the first serious challenge to the Eastern Tripartitate since its formation. He will also likely announce a swathe of other policy changes to the Doraltic Defense Forces at this keynote, including the activation of three reservist brigades as indicated by Army reports.

2. Burnell Renaut's talk on Kevearite security: Following the December 9 attempted assassination of Aizconan ambassador to Keverai Etxauz Apategui and the allegedly heavy-handed response Keveraite security services performed, the appearance of a second national President to set the record straight on their national defense policy is a highly interesting topic. Although certain details remained sparse, it is widely believed that the Keveraite Police, the policing branch of the nation's combined army and gendarmerie, focused its efforts to root our anti-Aizconan terrorism at the street level, which lead to accusations of an anti-Aprosian response. While Renaut's government repeatedly denied such allegations, such accusations raise the question of systemic bias within Keverai's defense forces and its ability to effectively serve its dual role as army and police. This talk will hopefully be one of the deepest insights into national security any national leader has offered in recent years, though Renaut's details, much like Dyson's and that of any national leader, must be analyzed against existing facts and be considered as part of the wider security narrative of Keverai, which has been consistently emphasized as one of "national security through international interdependence" whereby a strong economic system would prevent conflicts from arising in or near Keverai.
Chink in the Armor: San Javier

CASTILLO VERDE - When Dormill and Stiura began its operations to bring an end to the Buzz Trade from San Javier, it was hard to expect a full-blown security operation would take its place. What started as an effort to bring down the infamous Anliana Cartel in early 2019 became a shackle that ties up a significant amount of military and political resources into what most experts called a lost cause. However, where many saw adversity, Cedar Dyson and Defense Force leadership saw a chance to make things right by helping the Javieran people rebuild their state and start the process of developing a secure democratic state. Under the leadership of the People's Freedom Coalition and General Pedro Fresia, a civilian government was established and Castillo Verde's core and port were rebuilt into a model for the rest of the small Southern Sea nation to copy from which a combined Doraltic-Javerian security force operates.

Unfortunately, while progress has been made to restore San Javier, further complications in Fresia's authoritarian leadership style and increasingly anti-Doraltic rhetoric have severely hampered Doraltic efforts to provide security, being reduced to a token force that has been constantly thrown into the countryside to restore order for a government that appears ambivalent to the idea of independently establishing its security capacity. Even though the Dyson Government has repeatedly offered aid in this respect, Fresia and the PFC have refused to consider it while publically courting other potential security partners such as Aizcona or the Eastern Tripartite. Public opinion on the Doraltic security operation in San Javier has been in a consistent decline since 2019 and as tensions rise close to home, most Dormill-Stiuraians now believe that it is time to bring an end to the operation altogether and bring the troops still deployed in San Javier, amounting around 4,000 total, home.

Considering the situation, we believe that Dormill and Stiura's most glaring security flaw is presented in San Javier and the efforts to prop up a regime that by all accounts is hostile to Doraltic interests. The lack of support from the rest of the Southern Sea, especially on the part of Aizcona, Razzgriz, or Ainslie also shows the error in Doraltic efforts in San Javier where it has gone alone to enforce its security regime. A similar story is also being told in Charbagnia; however the situation there is changed by the extreme instability prompted by the high-intensity civil war between the Charbagnian Federation and French nationalists which allowed the Dyson Government to assist in forming a government better suited for its policy aims. How this will play out in the coming years is hard to predict but it is likely that General Fresia will build his new model army and follow through in ending the security operation by taking the Army's place, but only after the Army secures valuable strategic targets such as Puerto Polo or Agustin.

Excerpt from The Orwellian Sentinel, #67, Vol. 42, article entitled "Swift Response to Costavozkan Condemnation."

The Costavozkan government, in response to the Orwellian government's recent offer to Lofthus, has issued a condemnation against the action. The Ministry of Peace ensures that little will come of this, and the sanctions that are possible will have little effect on the Society.

But the threat still looms. The Orwellian Navy has set off to perform a excersise 120 miles of the coast in the South Mesder Sea. The purpose was to test the capabilities of a reletively new class of ships, the Predator-class destroyer; as well as warming up older ones, like the Manta-class armoured fast attack frigate and the Eel-class nuclear fast attack ballistic submarines.

Later next month, the Air Force will be testing their new missile systems. One thermobaric cruise missile will be launched into the upper atmosphere and be set off right above the unoccupied center of the South Mesden Sea to test theur capabilities. The Ministry of Peace did not answer on how many of these new missiles that they have, but we estimate between four to twelve as of now, not counting the older units still stored from a brief conflict in the 1940s.

The Orwellian Special Forces, known as the OSF, have seen an adrupt increase in numbers over th past few months largely due to the recent modification of the conscription draft, as have all the branches of the Orwellian military.

The government has not yet confirmed the exact purpose of these actions, but it can easily be linked with increased tension with foreign powers and a drastic overhaul of Orwellian foreign policy. The deal with Lofthus still stands, and the Orwellian ambassador still awaits approval to travel to Lofthus to discuss terms.

Image Image

After Miguel Branch, a 24 year old beloved videographer and hiker, set off into the central Lofthusian forests on June 1st, his parents thought he would be back in four days with nothing to show for it. As of June 7th 2022 he has not shown up.

His parents, Quinna and Sebastian Branch, report that he had heard rumors of large blank trucks leaving the middle of the forest on a gravel road in his town, Bellevue. This lead him to believe the forest may hold the secret factory that produces and ships Shield AI Drones. They say he only brought 4 days of supplies with him and that he traveled on foot. Now his parents fear for the worst and have reported him as a missing person.

“Miguel is an expert hiker, he even has a web show about hiking. There is just no way he would have gotten lost following a gravel road. I don’t like thinking about it, but what if LDC or Watch INC, whatever it’s called now, caught him? What if they kidnapped him or worse. Or what if he was attacked by animals? I knew he shouldn’t have gone out there” Said Quinna Branch as she broke down into tears.

Mayor Vikki Kay commented on the story, “This is a whole new level of conspiracy, I mean either the company or the government took this man and did something with him. I'll bet you anything that this man got a little too close to the factory and got caught, or at the very least a mining depot. There are parts of that forest that are known to hold metals. And I bet the entire thing is on video like his mother says he likes to do. If they forgot to grab his camera while kidnapping him, I bet it contains footage that could blow this whole thing out of the water. May the lord return him home” Mayor Vikki Kay.

We asked the CEO of Watch INC. Sven Cortlano, to comment on the incident. He replied,“While his intentions are not in the right place, we take the lives of good citizens very seriously here at Watch INC. We would even be willing to fund a private search party to comb through the forest in search of the young man. Let it be known that it is generally advised to not go off preset hiking paths in the Central Lofthusain Forests, as it is known for its difficult terrain and dangerous wildlife. May I need to remind the public that the location of the Shield AI Drone factory and mining depots are top secret, and a matter of national security. We hope that Miguel Branch returns home safely to his family.” CEO Sven Cortlano.

As the story grows more relevant, people are beginning to search for this so-called gravel road into the forest in northern Bellevue.

Stosal reaches weather detection deal with Ainslie

Mario Sezollo, Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent

A new deal has been released by the Stosal government involving upgraded weather detection and aviation safety capabilities. Ainslie's Foreign Minister Aaron Gerslin met with his Stosalic counterpart Calinari Rizzo last week, a sign of Amator Isaia's mission to improve diplomatic relations with other nations in the region. The visit has stirred up a rift in the Church however, with Orthodox and Fundamentalists clashing in heated debates both publicly and privately.

Ainslie is renowned around the region for being at the front of climate science, and detection is a key part of this crucial field. Stosal's ability to contribute has been severely damaged due to its below par current system, a relic of decades past. Data from the sites will be used to benefit the safety of the region, and of Stosal's key shipping industry. Aviation is a similar story, with the isolationism of previous governments lessening the need for adequate safeguards. This area will greatly benefit from expert aid from the deal.

The fundamentalist Dux Ecclesiae has denounced the agreement, stating it is a betrayal of Lucian values. Although not directly criticising the High Cardinal, he hit out at those who backed the deal within the Church, declaring them heretics. They hit back with arguments that the the Dux was stuck in the past, and that Labrax Cicero should stay in his lane and out of secular politics. No secular officials have publicly commented on the religious feud, but a variety of rumours have spread rapidly among the population.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Terr Curso stands up for Lofthus and The Orwell Society against Costavozka

As Costavozka launches diplomatic attacks and threats against Lofthus and The Orwell Society, the Throngist Republic of Lesva reaffirms its' support and this time expands it to cover not only Lofthus, but also The Orwell Society.

Image

By the order of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Throngist Republic of Lesva Terr Curso has once had the Throngist Republic of Lesva stand up for Lofthus in the face of a foreign attack, so far only a diplomatic level,
against Project Shield. However, this time Minister of Foreign Affairs Terr Curso says that Lesva is defending not only Lofthus, but also The Orwell Society, which has offered support for the Project Shield of Lofthus and both countries are even planning cooperation. This time, Lesva is standing up for both countries not only against the general international pressure, but also against a specific country, which has become the most recent attacker of Lofthus, Project Shield and The Orwell Society.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Terr Curso stated the following:

"The Throngist Movement Party of Lesva and the Throngist Republic of Lesva will continue standing by our past principle that Lofthus as a sovereign state has a right to develop whatever programs or technologies that it deems necessary and we will continue to defend their sovereign right against international pressure. The recent visit by First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Giva Tesin to Lofthus was just a demonstration or rather just a beginning. Lesva is prepared for stronger support, if it will be needed. What the government of Lofthus is doing, is fulfilling its' responsibilities of protecting the country's citizens in the best ways it deems necessary. It's a responsibility of any government. And this time we would also like to express our support for The Orwell Society, which came under a verbal attack by Costavozka for supporting Lofthus and Project Shield. The Orwell Society has a sovereign right to offer support to Lofthus, which in turn has a sovereign right to develop Project Shield. And, in turn, if they please, these countries have sovereign rights to cooperate on jointly develop any kinds of projects or working together for any common goal. Costavozka is blackmailing Lofthus and The Orwell Society with sanctions and if the diplomats or government officials of Costavozka say they are using their "sovereign ride to impose sanctions", then it is not an argument, because your sovereign rights end, when you are threatening the sovereign rights of other countries."

Minister of the Lesvan Throngist Armed Forces Captain General Noie Verant addresses the controversial international naval exercise in the Bay of Gael and the security of the Faronna Islands

An international naval exercise in the Bay of Gael, close to the proximity of Balnik's Faronna Islands, by countries outside of the continent, has Minister of the Lesvan Throngist Armed Forces Captain General Noie Verant speak before the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva on the issue

In other important news, Minister of the Lesvan Throngist Armed Forces Captain General Noie Verant finally addressed the international naval exercise that has been held in the Bay of Gael, largely by countries outside of the continent itself. The Minister-Captain General was calm and collected in his speech before the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva on what the position of the Throngist Republic of Lesva is at this moment:

"Lesva never considered Solaryia a country that could be a threat or an enemy to us or any of our allies. In fact, Solaryia has largely been perceived as a potential partner and maybe even a friend. We don't know about others that had participated in the exercise and I think our Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Throngist Republic of Lesva could be more competent in evaluating that question. However, an international military exercise, even if it is only a naval one, in the Bay of Gael, by several countries outside the continent, and so close in the proximity of the Faronna Islands is something that makes us concerned for international well-being's sake. Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the entire Throngist Movement Party of Lesva has made it clear that Lesva recognizes the Faronna Islands as a sovereign part of Balnik, one of our 2 main allies. A fraternal country in the Eastern Tripartite. And once again, having an international naval exercise, in the Bay of Gael by countries outside of Gael, in close proximity to Faronna Islands and mainland Balnik is "firing off an alarm" to us. We evaluate it as a national security threat or a national security hazard to our ally, the security of which is directly linked to our own security. The Eastern Tripartite (ET) is inseparable in this case. Which is very like that our Ministry, our main military body and also our common ET structures will have to evaluate the security situation in that geographic area and work out appropriate ways how to ensure security and deterrence."

Soon Kilat Will Be A Hereditary Kingdom, And What Else Might Follows?
An exclusive insider insight for the attack on our democracy

ANTAPURNA (KL) - The soon-to-be voted ‘Hangakang’ bill will be a triumph for democracy in Kilat, finally imposing a term-limit for the Hang. Amending the constitution, the bill will impose a 20-years term-limit for the Hang, after which a free and fair election would be held to elect the next Hang, forbidding the previous Hang to rerun for an election.

This would mark the first time the Tinilarahang, Kilat’s parliament, passed a law to legislate the Hang’s office since 1965, which resulted in the Hang dissolving Tinilarahang.

This is good for our democracy. So good that it is hard to believe.

And you are right. The bill, which seems innocuous at first glance, is marred with discussions behind the door, that we mere peasants couldn’t have knowledge of.

An anonymous source approached Ruruta Tahuara, disclosing the fact that the passing of the ‘Hangakang’ bill is the result of years of backroom deals within the government. The bill was first proposed in 2014 by the opposition party, Fair Democratic Party (Tamkorasi Varit’a Varuti; TVV). It met immediate hostile responses, with the ruling party, Kilat People’s Party (Kilat ra T’adagana Varuti; KTV), stating that the rule of the Hang is sacred and thus not subject to legislation, implying the Hang is above the parliament. This is not surprising, considering the closeness of the ties between the Hang and KTV, going back to the 1990s.

However, another energy crisis hit in 2019, prompting the KTV to finally relented on the ‘Hangakang’ bill, in exchange for bipartisan support for the LNG deals with Aprosia. That was only one part of the deals. After discussion finally reached the Hang, things got heated, with the Hang declaring that the law was essentially a “coup d’etat” by Tinilarahang.

In the ensuing discussion, an amendment to the law was made, in that the Hangakang bill wouldn’t retroactively apply to the current Hang, Rasta Hang, and in exchange his current term is limited by 20 years in the future.

This is an interesting point, since it seemed like the Hang gained nothing in return for democracy. We know the Hang is quite patriotic and cares for the wellbeing of the nation, but are we asking too much of him?

Another insider, speaking under strict terms of anonymity, retold how the Hang came to approve such harsh measures on him. It was agreed that his son, currently pursuing doctorate in University of Norland, Ainslie, would be supported by both parties in the next election, and both parties would remain supportive of the next Hang for the rest of his terms. Essentially ensuring that his son would succeed him, a practice that was unheard of since the establishment of the Hangate.

The insider expressed their discontentment of the terms of the deal, and wary of other overtures the parties have made that were unknown to them.

We believe that the passing of the bill will be detrimental to the democracy in Kilat, contrary to what Tinilarahang or the elites might have said. This would be a grave precedent, establishing a hereditary position for what supposed to be an elected office, bringing us back to the pre-Hangate era of the Kingdom of Kanegrie where the hereditary kingship failed to provide the needs of the nation.

The fact that both parties colluded to have this bill passed, in exchange for an energy deal that filled the pocket of the party’s elite, is worrying. Who will be at the forefront of the people’s struggle against the corrupt government, when even the opposition turned into a docile collaborator of the government for money?

Call your representatives now, to vote against the bill and reinstate true democracy in Kilat. An online petition to oppose the bill has gained 20,000 signatures at the time of the publication. Together, we won’t bow down to any attack on democracy and the power of people to Kilat.

Turata ra Kilat! Freedom for Kilat!

Editor Note
We advised our readers who is currently residing in the capital, Amantapurna, and Amernany to evacuate to Kanegrie for their safety. We, Ruruta Tahuara, have established a support group for those who have no means of accommodation. We are also happy to receive volunteers to help in our efforts.

INTERNATIONAL Joint Naval exercise with Hyukai and Yursea comes to an end
After almost two weeks of continuous military exercises, the Laedenian Navy finished its naval drills in the Eterna sea, having strengthened its partnerships with the other two participants

The joint naval exercise that brought together the Laeden, Hyukai and Yursea navies has come to an end. The operation, dubbed LAHYUREX, brought together 22 ships, 14 aircraft and approximately 3,000 military personnel from the three nations, allowing for a huge exchange of experience and knowledge among the participating naval forces. With a total duration of 11 days, the operation included exercise scenarios such as: amphibious operations, anti-submarine operations, air defense, mine clearance operations, armed escort, refueling at sea, advanced maritime communication, maritime interdiction, rescue and medical response. The exercise focused on the execution of joint operations, exploring the collective capabilities of the participants and giving priority to interoperability.

As important as the naval operations developed in the exercise were the exchanges on land, carried out between the high officers of the partner navies, who had the opportunity to discuss techniques and doctrinal guidelines, in addition to participating in war games aimed at ascertaining the ability to take decision in high-stress situations. Laeden officers were also able to visit Hyukai's naval facilities and learn more about the organization of the partner navy. At the end of the exercise, a large joint meeting was scheduled, in which Laedenian officers discussed with their colleagues from Hyukai and Yursea about the particularities of Eterna's maritime scenario and about new possibilities for partnership in the military and security area. The meeting had the illustrious presence of the Proconsul of Laeden, Admiral Maurice Galland, who made a point of speaking to the participating military, reinforcing the importance of partnerships like this and congratulating everyone for the excellent work. Galland assured the commanders of the Hyukai and Yursea task forces that Laeden is committed to international maritime security, and also that he is very interested in deepening friendly relations with the nations of Eterna.

The Laedenian naval forces have already started their return home, while the Proconsul headed to the Security Exhibition taking place in the International District.

LOFTHUS TO JOIN EASTERN TRIPARTITE AS OBSERVER NATION

Image

President Palubiak Released a statement to the media stating,

“I have begun the formal process of joining the Eastern Tripartite as an observer nation. In these chaotic and unpredictable times, stability is exactly what Lofthus needs. I know that this amazing alliance with these amazing countries will bring strength to our economy and lessen the heavy diplomatic load this country currently carries. I hope that anyone who wants to judge this decision first educates themselves on the alliance and realizes the many benefits of joining. I am looking into the long term of this decision and this will not only help Lofthus now, but help Lofthus later. And of course Lofthus will aid any member in the alliance in the future once the country is in stable conditions once again.” -President Palubiak.

The Eastern Tripartite (aka. ET) is an alliance formed by the three nations of Lesva, Balnik, and Aprosia as an economic and military pact. As stated above, the government hopes that ET will bring economic stability as Shield AI attracts sanctions and political isolation from many parts of the world.

The President has not answered many questions about the decision, but this is expected as he tries to manage the chaos that has overwhelmed Lofthusian streets.

Here is what Mayor Vikki Kay of Fedic had to say on the issue,

"This is going to hurt. ET is not what Lofthus needs, Palubiak is just digging a hole for himself deeper and deeper. We need to keep things in Lofthus. Lofthus was perfectly capable of running itself, and now Palubiak has gotten Lofthus to a point of weakness that he now needs to lean on other people. Lofthus should be able to stand up tall as an independent. And I worry about the military too. What if ET helped Palubiak by using there much more developed military to enforce us. It feels similar as to working with The Orwell Society. Palubiak isn't even strong enough to resist his own people so he has to call in for backup. What a coward. Everyday I get more and more scared for Lofthus." - Mayor Vikki Kay

San Jimenez, June, 2022

|SAN JIMENEZ - DORMILL AND STIURA DIPLOMATIC MEETING||INTERNATIONAL|

Ambassadors from San Jimenez and Dormill and Stiura met in Gran Teran to discuss a variety of topics. The main objective of these diplomatic discussions was to further improve the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Tevin Josephs of Dormill and Stiura arrived in Gran Teran early this morning to meet with Jimenean Ambassador Fernán Santiago. Before discussions began, the Doraltic ambassador was taken on a tour of the Jimenean capital where he was able to meet with government officials. Ambassador Santiago and Ambassador Josephs were able to be greeted by and meet with President Canone briefly before heading to the discussions.

The biggest issue during the discussions was opening the Jimenean economy to Doraltic markets. This included discussing ideas for eliminating various trade barriers and finding ways to further advance trade operations between the two countries. The developing Jimenean economy has long lacked openness to foreign markets and the Jimenean state has made it clear that it visualizes Dormill and Stiura as a fitting source of trade for San Jimenez in the region. When speaking with the Gran Teran Gazette, Ambassador Josephs signaled his desire for San Jimenez to pursue membership in the G4. He expressed this desire stating that the G4 would “deepen not only San Jimenez’s relationship with the United Republics but with the rest of Gael in turn.” Ambassador Santiago shared the same sentiment while affirming his confidence that San Jimenez could “make it happen.”

The last topic of discussion was the growth of the Eastern Tripartite in the Gaeltic-Eternan area as well as other security measures. In light of the recent naval exercises by the Raedlon Organization of States, Ambasador Josephs expressed his concern with Ambassador Santiago, urging for the creation security partnership to “protect Gaeltic-Eternan interests and sovereignty”. Ambassador Santiago welcomed the idea, claiming that the Eterna Sea would be “much less vulnerable” with such a partnership in place. Jimenean concerns have only increased over security as Eastern Tripartite influence grows in the Gaeltic-Eternan area. Dormill and Stiura are bordered by two states that are members of the Eastern Tripartite, Balnik and Lesva. Balnik, unlike other Tripartite states, has yet to issue its support for the surveillance program in Lofthus. Although San Jimenez shares no land borders, the Eastern Tripartite presence in the Eterna Sea has been of general concern among Jimeneans who fear a coalition of authoritarian states as a threat to stability. The discussion included the best way to approach the growing Eastern Tripartite as well as further linking the two democratic governments in diplomatic friendship.

The discussions ended on a positive outlook of Doraltic-Jimenean relations as well as further linking the two democratic governments in diplomatic friendship. Ambassador Santiago spoke with us and shared his enthusiasm over the meeting shortly after the discussions concluded.

"I can say, with great confidence, that these discussions are a step in the right direction for both parties involved. I expect more discussion like this to only occur more frequently and with much more measures to be taken. I know I share my sentiments with the president as well as our other representatives in the Synod. I speak on behalf of Gran Teran when I say that we are eager to pursue future partnership with our neighbors to the south and Gael as a whole."

|GOVERNMENT ISSUES BAN ON TRAVEL TO LOFTHUS||INTERNATIONAL|

Since the announcement of "Shield AI", Lofthus has faced widespread criticism, as well as support, from many various countries. San Jimenez is no exception as President Canone condemned the program and voiced his support for Vikki Kay, a capitalist mayor in Lofthus who stands as a figure of opposition in the country. The president stated that he was exercising caution over the developments in Lofthus but did not take immediate action.

Since then, arrests have been made in the country by those attempting to destroy their government issued drones. In response to the developing situation, Costavozka issued a ban on travel to the country which prompted many in the Jimenean legislature to call for that kind of action in San Jimenez. After a statement from Lofthus President Kai Palubiak indicated that Lofthus was joining the Eastern Tripartite as an observer state, the call to oppose Lofthus and its supporters have significantly increased. In a majority vote, the State Synod of San Jimenez voted in favor of issuing a travel ban to Lofthus. President Canone signed the bill, stating:

"It would be irresponsible for our government to not implement some kind of travel restriction on citizens from entering Lofthus. Ultimately, we do not want to find ourselves in a situation that would further complicate the situation. We welcome the actions taken by Costavozka to protect its citizens and we are proud to follow suit. For example, if a Jimenean citizen should travel to Lofthus there is a likelihood that they would be subject to the unrest in the country as a result of the new surveillance program. This travel ban is aimed at protecting Jimenean citizens. That is it. We advise any Jimenean that is still in the country to leave immediately. There is no guarantee that San Jimenez will be able to help citizens should they be detained in Lofthus."

There has been no indication if any action will be taken by the government against states that have issued their support for Lofthus. Regardless, many in San Jimenez are suspicious of the news of Lofthus admittance into the Eastern Tripartite.

14th of June, 2022
Arnton, WL - Sunny. Max: 27C Min: 13C

INTERNATIONAL: Ahnslen tech, environment, defence on agenda after foreign visits

ARNTON (AN) - It has been a busy few weeks for those high up in the Ahnslen Government as officials as high up as the Foreign Minister were sent out to foreign nations to have discussions with various officials in those nations. There were many different announcements and items on the agenda after the Foreign Minister visited Stosal, Kayevies and Venatu whilst the Defence Minister was sent to the International District in order to attend the International District Security Conference. It was not quiet at home either, with the Prime Minister calling Strategos Keith Ryansan as the Ahnslen government attempted to respond to two rising security issues - the rapid authoritarianism occurring in Lofthus and naval exercises occurring in the contentious areas of the Sea of Valdar.

Firstly, to Stosal where Foreign Minister Aaron Gerslin touched down for a three day visit between June 4 and June 6 with the largely isolationist Christian fundamentalist nation. After discussions with his counterpart Calinari Rizzo, the two announced that Ahnslen firms would help to upgrade weather detection and aviation safety capabilities. This would see outdated infrastructure in the small Southern Sea island nation be brought well into the 21st Century. Data from these sites is said to be used to improve safety in the air and sea movements in and around Stosal as well as protecting the important shipping industry based out of the nation. Fundamentalist groups in Stosal have since condemned the meeting, with the break in Stosalian policy in not engaging in much foreign affairs drawing suggestions this exceptional visit is in violation of the religious beliefs of the nation. This has drawn controversy from the Stosalian Government who have fired back, although the Ahnslen Government has largely stayed outside of that debate.

Foreign Minister Gerslin then went next door to visit the nation of The Kayevies, an idyllic and politically progressive nation with core interests in environmental issues and the export of technologies researched and produced within the nation. The visit was a friendly one, which predominantly focused on discussing issues of concern in the opinion of the two nations and in particular Southern Sea security arrangements and diplomatic challenges. In the press conference, Minister Gerslin expressed a desire to include businesses from the Kayevies in future deals in the deep Southern Sea. The only announcement of note was that the two foreign officials called on the International Parks and Nature Organisation to expand the scope of their International Parks scheme to include marine reserves and reefs. The International Parks program is administered by IPNO and sees the opening of funds to improve facilities in designated national parks at the national level in recognition of the international significance of the reserve. IPNO, who have not yet included marine parks in the system, have not commented on the joint statement by the two leaders. If the Organisation were to open up funding, it would mean increased money available for conservation programs in island states throughout the southern sea just as The Kayevies which has a number of reefs. Another, lesser announcement was that the Ahnslen Government would commit funds to purchasing a radio station and strengthening its transmitter in order for Radio Ainslie - the international broadcast arm of the Ahnslen Government and an important source of balanced information for the Southern Sea, Argus, Gael and the Eastern Seas - to have clearer transmission into these areas.

On his way home from The Kayevies, the Foreign Minister briefly stopped in Taukena, Venatu for a day visit where he discussed matters of shared concern with the Venatuan President. He then went to the embassy to talk with diplomatic staff and hold a small, impromptu party with prominent Ahnslens at the ambassador’s residence. After the lunch, he then visited troops stationed at the Ahnslen based in Taukena, reinforcing his appreciation for their services and the importance that they have in ensuring the stability and security of Ainslie’s friends in the Puluntara archipelago and much further afield too.

Closer to home, Prime Minister Elliana Gifford had a ‘lengthy and productive’ phone call with Altera’s leader, Strategos Keith Ryansan where they discussed the importance of the cordial and collaborative relationship between Raelosi nations and their Gaelitic partners. Gifford expressed her concern with the recent exercises that occurred in the Sea of Valdar close to the disputed Faronna Islands, a sentiment to which the Strategos agreed with. The Prime Minister has been largely guarded with her words since that phone call, refusing to be drawn on her personal opinion or the government’s opinion about the exercises which exclusively involved Raelosi navies. This relative silence comes after the strong condemnation from the Defence Minister about the activities of the Belantic, Scaedic and Solaryi navies off of Gael’s southern coast. There is speculation amongst those close to the government in Ainslie that a quick and strong response followed by a muted follow up suggests that Gifford and her fellow executive Ministers are considering changes to the balance of Ahnslen forces around its southern flank. The only notable move directly linked to defence policy in Ainslie since this has been the freedom of navigation activities that have been occurring in the International Straits and into the Sea of Valdar, which have been larger and more frequent than normal.

Another major defence-related development has been the International District Security Conference, which saw three high ranking Ahnslens visit the District to peruse displays and sit in on talks - Defence Minister Parik Carven, Public Safety Officer Dean Callister and Ambassador-General Callum Parkes. However, none of these three have hosted or been a part of any official events as a part of the conference with Emergency Management Minister Karina Arellen and Emergency Management chief Charlie Endarin hosting a panel to discuss climate change and disaster response within the context of security.

Not to be outdone, a weary Foreign Minister Gerslin made an unscheduled appearance at an otherwise regular daily press conference - the day after he got back to Ainslie from Taukena. On the agenda, at least because it was on the journalists’ agendas, was recent developments in the Eternan nation of Lofthus whose sudden decline into becoming an authoritarian police state was of keen interest to those asking the Foreign Minister questions today. During the press conference, FM Gerslin called for a “proportionate and reasoned response, which departs from the kneejerk response that is natural when hearing such instances as that in Lofthus”. The nation whose progressive policies and concern for the environment once won praise has been the subject of international condemnation and measures which ranged from travel bans to opening the borders wide to those seeking to refuge from the regime. These reactions are widely considered to be the prompt for the Lofthusian Government to join the Eastern Tripartite as an observer state, maligning the nation from governments that used to be its friends.

However, the Foreign Minister was quite guarded in his words. He condemned the recent policy changes and called for the government to “‘look into less extreme alternatives than the assigning of personal surveillance drones’’. He further announced that Ainslie would be strongly discouraging its citizens from travelling to Lofthus, stating that despite there being little evidence to suggest that it is not safe for international travellers to visit the nation, the “unpredictable political situation, in light of international events” makes it dangerous for Ahnslens to travel there. He further noted the recent protests and discord within the society may mean a ‘rapid de-escalation in the security situation in the nation’ is possible. He stopped short of announcing a travel ban. Further, Ainslie has not swung its arms wide to Lofthusian refugees like some other nations have but rather stated that they “will expedite and prioritise” refugee and other migration visa applications from those residing in Lofthus. Further, he announced that any Lofthusian nationals currently in Ainslie would automatically have their visas extended by six months - excluding those on tourist visas. When asked whether Ainslie would implement the Shield AI system, the Minister briefly chuckled and responded with “No. We have no intentions to do that.”. The light-hearted nature of the response seems to overlook the propensity towards authoritarianism that Ahnslen governments have consistently had since the 1930s - a fact Ahnslens would be quite hesitant to bring up at the moment.

With recent developments shifting the state of the Eterna and Gael, it seems likely that the usually busy and jet setting foreign affairs officials in Ainslie will have no shortage of issues to address.

DOMESTIC: Judicial-General reignites key law-politics flashpoint

HARLESSIE (AN) - Judicial-General Kentarre today reignited a long-standing debate in the legal community. This time, instead of keeping it to an intellectual debate he has foregrounded it as a potential political issue that is sure to cause headaches for legal policymakers in the Federal Government. The Judicial-General, who has departed from his predecessors’ stance of shying away from open advocacy of political issues, suggested today that privative clauses should be significantly limited and their operation open to much more scrutiny from the courts and the legal community. Privative clauses are normally provisions within legislation that bar a court from using the usual pathway to review decisions made by bureaucrats and politicians in the executive government. This usual pathway, offered through statute, allows a relatively wide set of circumstances to be reviewed by the court.

However, when the Federal Assembly passes a privative clause, the conventional pathways are closed off. As a result, only the way of reviewing government decisions that the Constitution affords citizens is open to those wishing to bring the government or its officials to court on an alleged error in the way an administrative decision is made. This way is only made available as a result of the Courts interpreting the constitution so as to suggest that by passing privative clauses, the only way they could be legal is to only take away the statutory rights that people have - rather than the constitutional rights too.

Kentarre’s comments, made to the University of Upper Wesland, today included phrases such as “laws that seek to limit the ability of a Court to review plainly wrong decisions in a legal sense unduly and unnecessarily harms the operation of the Ahnslen government”. When pressed further as to whether he was a supporter of privative clauses, he said the following:

“It would appear to me that they are being used far more than they should be, that’s for certain.”

Whilst privative clauses are used relatively sparingly in most areas, almost all of the strongest ones concern the space of immigration. These have the result of drastically reducing the ability of would-be immigrants, refugees and visa holders to be able to review decisions concerning them in a speedy and cost effective manner. Ms Ferrer, a lawyer in the space of refugee law, shared to Arendai today that she was optimistic after hearing the Judicial-General’s comments today.

“Privative clauses drastically reduce the rights of refugees - who have been through enough already. The suggestion of the Judicial-General to wind these back or perhaps completely remove them would boost the ability for all people who engage with Ainslie to have the rights and the access to the courts that we enjoy and cherish - something that particularly this nation is renowned for.”

The effect of these clauses also make it far more difficult for people wishing to review decisions to get redress from the Courts.

“Essentially, when a privative clause is in force - righting a wrong takes longer, is more expensive and less likely to happen or at least to happen in a way which properly vindicates and makes amends for the wrong that has occurred”, Artine Gavri, a senior barrister practising in administrative law noted.

These provisions are considered an important part of making sure the government operates effectively.

“Privative clauses operate to select only the most likely cases to succeed and weed out people who may be seeking to review their decision for another purpose - perhaps, partially to preserve the current state of affairs they are in or to restrain the Government from doing something it will likely just do a couple years later”, a former bureaucrat who worked in the migration space anonymously suggested to Arendai when asked about the use of privative clauses.

This debate will inevitably cause more headaches for the Ahnslen Government, who has experienced heightened activity from the Courts and the Judicial-General in spaces that traditionally hurt the government politically - such as gender, environmental affairs and the review of government decisions. Privative clauses entering the debate is only likely to place more pressure on the Gifford Government, who appear to be on markedly less friendly terms with the nation’s legal community as the previous Kenzai Government.

When the Government was asked today about their stance on privative clauses, government spokesperson Kari Tarlow offered a response.

“Privative clauses remain an important and fundamental way of the way we do things as a government. They are here to stay for the foreseeable future. I note the comments of the Judicial-General and the sympathy of jurists towards their removal. However, a vital part of this nation’s operation is democracy - and the people, not the legal community, decide what happens in this country. We are the elected government and will make legal reforms as we see fit, in consultation with our partners across the legal community. Privative clauses are not an area of the law that we are enthusiastic to change in the near future. Many challenges face Ainslie and we must tend to them first before we enter into the intellectual debates in relatively niche areas.”

Defiant words from Ms Tarlow there.

First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Giva Tesin congratulates Lofthus on observer status in the Eastern Tripartite

The Easten Tripartite (ET) now has another country in the ranks of its' observers, with the accession of Lofthus

Image

First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Giva Tesin spoke before the Supreme National Carto of the Throngist Republic of Lesva. Addressing President of the Supreme National Carto of the Throngist Republic of Lesva Taica Berislavić and other Honorable Members of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva, First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Giva Tesin talked about the accession of Lofthus to an observer status in the Eastern Tripartite (ET), joining Doravo among the observers of ET.

In one of the fragments of the address, the First Secretary stated:

"Lofthus has and will continue to have our support, which would have been present regardless of the status of relations or even without integration with the Eastern Tripartite (ET), however, integration in a form of the current observer status or potential road towards further integration, definitely will bring even greater strengthening of relations and even greater reassurance that Lofthus will not be alone in any part of their journey. Any traitors or foreign agents that today are fuelling the destabilization of the situation in Lofthus will not win, because they are not on the right side of history. What these individuals are doing today is planting figurative bombs under the foundation of their own country and the land of their own nation for personal benefit, regardless of whatever motives they have or whatever forces are driving them. We just know that the government of Lofthus, the true representatives of their own people and not some self-proclaimed figureheads, not to mention rioters and looters on the street, do not speak on the behalf of Lofthus. And we also know what our mission as allies of Lofthus is and we can already started thinking right now what we can and should do in case Lofthus turns to us for help in the eyes of the existential challenge that country is facing today. Right now is a key moment, where the history of Lofthus is being decided in this confrontation between patriotic forces and the fifth column."

Lofthusian President Agrees to Meet Orwellian Ambassador at Flomo to Discuss Future Relations

Not too long ago, the Orwellian government offered the changing nation of Lofthus a deal: drones for their law enforcement and diplomatic immunity in exchange for a possible alliance and land for a planned multipurpose military base. The Lofthusian President Palybiak has since recently agreed to meet with an Orwellian ambassador at the Lofthusian capital city, Flomo.

RELATED: Portion of law enforcement budget going towards the mass producing of drones; all according to plan, official says.

This news pleased two Ministries in particular, of Peace and Surplus. If the meeting goes well, the government will begin to sell the drones in question and to build what will soon be a rival to Orwell's own Fort Marx. The new military base will hopefully garner enough land and funds to hold a large airbase, naval port, intelligence center, and room for many soldiers, greatly increasing Orwellian influence.

RELATED: Fort Marx's airbase repaved, pilots happy wit the improvement.

The terms and conditions of the proposed deal are not at all set in stone, the meeting has yet to take place. The Lofthusian President proposed it to take place on June 12th, but that time has since passed as the government searches for the most qualified official to serve the role. Former Minister of Peace Dorian Sharpe has been chosen for the role and is set to leave tomorrow morning in a escorted private jet and arrive the day after.

RELATED: Tsunami ravages eastern Orwellian coasts, eight dead and dozens injured.

In other news, in response to the nation of Costavozka's aggression as highlighted in previous issues, the Throngist Republic of Lesva stood up for Lofthusian and Orwellian sovereignty by issuing a verbal statement supporting Project Shield and all who assist it.

RELATED: Recent naval exercise successful, new destroyers working "far better than we thought they would, actually."

Chancellor Costava Fires Back Comment From Against Lesvan Minister of Foreign Affairs

NEW EDEVAR, June 9 -
After the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lesva- Terr Curso- commented regarding Costavozka's contemplation of strategic sanctions on Lofthus and The Orwell Society- which Minister Curso regarded as "unlawful and unethical"- the Chancelor of Costavozka has issued a response regarding the comment in a speech earlier today. The Chancellor's staff has provided us at The Truth of Costavozka a transcript of the speech, which we have provided a portion of it in turn to our readers. The Chancellor's willingness to negotiate was a bold move that was praised by many- including top-level military staff- despite criticisms from a handful of Representatives.

"[...] While the lands of Lofthus are outside of Costavozkan jurisdiction- and under normal circumstances sanctions against Lofthus for internal action would violate the sovereign rights of the nation- the sovereign rights of Lofthus ended when they decided to spy on their citizenry- both law-abiding and not- in a major human rights violation. Therefore, Costavozka is justified in its usage of sanctioning Lofthus- and anyone who attempts to support the tyrannical nation in their human rights violation- as a sign of major protest against these violations. By this definition, Lesva is also subject to these sanctions, and- should this despicable act continue- Costavozka will not hesitate to take Lofthus to international court on behalf of the citizens of the nation, and if this still does not work, Costavozka may consider more desperate measures. Once more, I implore the international community to see the dark side of this act, and join us in our attempt to liberate the people of Lofthus.

However, I do realize that perhaps we have been a little... harsh... in our methods and lack of negotiation. Our lack of willingness to compromise may be preventing us from finding a mutually agreeable solution. I hereby offer to the leadership of Lofthus, Lesvia, and the Orwell Society to meet with me at a closed-door diplomatic meeting in Costavozka. I also invite Mayor Vikki Kay of Lofthus to this summit to speak on behalf of her people, as it is only fair for the people of Lofthus to have a voice at the table, regarding both points of the argument. [...]"

Nationwide Power Outage Hits Costavozka

NEW EDEVAR, June 15 -
A major power outage occurred early in the morning of June 11, 2022, causing major issues throughout the nation. Traffic lights, phone lines, hospital equipment, and more was affected by this outage, which was only fully rectified earlier yesterday on the 14th of June. While the Costavozkan Ministry of Internal Affairs was quick to deploy industrial-grade portable generators to ensure the continued operation of vital hospitals, nuclear power plants, airports, train stations, and some stores, many places- including our news building- remained without power for days, leading food and other perishable items to spoil. The cause is that of an unexpected power surge from the Jorgi Velderik National Nuclear Power Station, which caused an overload of the grid, after the obsolete circuit breakers connecting the station to the grid failed to trip. The cause of the surge is unknown, but an official investigation is underway. Thankfully, the grid is now running as normal, and no-one lost their lives due to the loss of power.

High Cardinal hits back at Church criticism

Niezo Cardelo, Political Correspondent

Stosal's High Cardinal Amator Isaia has slammed his critics in the Church over their opposition to a controversial visit by Ainslie's Foreign Minister a fortnight ago. Senior Church officials including the Dux Ecclesiae criticised the meeting on religious grounds publicly and privately, and the divide has stirred up a storm in Stosalic politics.

In a TWItter post, Dux Virgo Corvus denounced the meeting's supporters within the Church, labelling them 'heretics' and 'traitors', although he did not directly criticise the secular government. Other Holy Councillors have echoed these views. Isaia declared in a press release that the Church should stay out of foreign policy, and that they should stay in their lane. Some secular politicians have also criticised the meeting, and it is expected Isaia will be copping internal heat over it. Already unpopular with Churchists for his openness in foreign affairs, the threat of a no-confidence vote looms over his head. The only dissenting Holy Councillor, the Councillor for Foreign Affairs, is expected to face pressure within the Church system as well.

Many citizens have voiced their support for Isaia's reforms, and any effort to remove Isaia or the only Orthodox Holy Councillor will likely be met with uproar.

Other|Gael: Balniki Foreign Director Slams Costavozka
October 13, 2021

Andrija Miloš, Director of the Balniki Board of Foreign Affairs has recently come into the spotlight in regard to her recent statement in a publicized conference regarding the ascension of Lofthus to an observer within the Eastern Tripartite. This come after the country of Lofthus, who made world headlines regarding its development of the Shield AI, a domestic security initiative that aims to reduce crime through the widespread use of autonomous surveillance drones. Using this international exclusion as an opportunity, the Eastern Tripartite, (ET) a primarily diplomatic and economic focused organization composed of mostly nationalist states invited Lofthus to join the organization to relieve it from the wave of sanctions that hit the nation and bolster Lofthus's development of advanced, cutting edge artificial intelligence. In her meeting, Miloš mostly discussed the roadmap of Lofthus's role as an observer state and the circumstances regarding joining. Miloš later issued a scathing statement in the meeting to Costavozka and others regarding foreign interference.

Q: Director Miloš, what is the Government's position regarding belligerent nations such as Costavozka threatening Lofthus? Is this seen as a breach of their own soverignity or is it just sabre rattling?

A: It is first and foremost childish and immature of these states to be taking such actions over sovereign domestic policy. What these nations fail to understand is that their sabre rattling as you said, is pushing their citizens to become more wary of foreign powers as they see them as a threat that is trying to strangle out their way of life, they see this and join the Tripartite economic community where we can financially protect them from unfair sanctions and unjustified attacks. We must recognize that Lofthus is a free democracy, meaning their citizens can choose their president, and the president has chosen to embrace the shield AI, if their citizens do not like this then they can vote him out, sanctioning the people of the nation for something so miniscule is a childish and immature governmental response for something that can be solved in time. the matter of the Shield AI is strictly a domestic security policy for the 21st century, all of these nations attacking the Shield AI have CCTV's and other security devices, in ten years they will have facial recognition and tracking technology. in twenty they will have their own drones and autonomous security systems. They are mad at Lofthus for replacing police officers susceptible to human error with machines that can think exponentially faster than us, they are rejecting the future for their own dogmatic foreign policy.

Costavozka has threatened Lofthus with "drastic measures." For what? Lofthus is its own sovereign nation whose domestic security policy is aiming to reduce crime rate as well as officer and civilian deaths alike, that is an unarguably good thing, yet these states threaten them for it with "drastic measures." This is what the opposition looks like, threatening the lives of innocent for no good, discernable reason.

Following the statement, the Director was later asked about the recent RoS exercise near the Faronna Islands of which she refused to comment on, but promised "negative outcomes for those who violate Balniki territorial sovereignty."

Foreign Minister Extends Gratitude as Kayesians Rebuild South Frierdell

The devastating floods of February abated by March, but a return to normalcy is still on the horizon for Frierdell residents displaced by rising waters. Construction costs have been estimated at over ₾600 million and many businesses have closed for good, with Frierdellians emigrating in droves. Nancy Marchesan, a resident, stated, "I've lived in Frierdell for over fifty years and this new wave of floods is the straw that broke my back. I'm saying farewell to friends and family and poor infrastructure and relocating to Genillas." Accusations of infrastructure mismanagement have abounded after the death count was revised to 11 deaths and over 800 injuries requiring hospitalization. Frierdell mayor Mark Jivana declined to comment, but a minister in the civil engineering department (who wished to remain anonymous) assured me that "The flood management system was well-designed for all flooding in the past, and with this unprecedented weather, we've reevaluated our approach and are confident this scale of disaster will not recur." Whether this will assuage the thousands who are now homeless remains to be seen. A buyout program has been initiated to supplement property insurance, through which displaced residents may sell their homes to the government for reconstruction; however with a cap on funding, many do not qualify, further angering citizens. Calls for mayoral resignation are loud and unceasing, and Jivana's approval rating is at an all-time low.

The Ministry for Foreign Relations has issued several statements of gratitude for Western Isles nations of Ainslie, Uprea, and Lesva, which sent international disaster response teams within days of Kayesian reports. Ainsliean and Uprean providers set up evacuations and medical treatment centers in Frierdell, and Lesvan personnel assisted almost immediately with water management and construction efforts. Such teams proved instrumental in mitigating loss of life and property. "The Kayevies are forever indebted to the nations of Ainslie, Uprea, and Lesva for their heroic and selfless contributions to our citizens. We extend our sincere gratitude for their assistance, and pledge to reciprocate if ever needed," said Foreign Minister Abrana Moss.

Domestic: Memorial held for 132 victims of plane crash
Anna Rezan

A memorial for the 132 victims of the Doravo Airways flight AE 216 crash has been held earlier today in Edon, Upper Alesia.

The crash occurred nearly two weeks ago in a field half a kilometre outside the Edon city limits.

The service took place in the Edon Regional Hospital and was attended by over two hundred people, including members of the Edon Fief Lordship and surrounding Lords as well as Lord Josef III, a member of his Imperial Majesty’s extended family.

Wreaths were laid on a stone monument for the crash near Castel Lane, a few miles from the crash site.

All Imperial flags in Edon were flown at half-mast and will continue throughout the week as a week of mourning takes place.

Lord Andrea, Lord of Edon Fief, said: "my thoughts are with the families of the 132 people who lost their lives.”

"We also pay thanks to the emergency services at the scene who dealt with the sheer horror of the tragedy."

An inquiry by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch found that the aircraft suffered an explosive decompression from an incorrectly repaired aft pressure bulkhead, which failed in mid-flight, destroying most of its vertical stabilizer and severing all of the hydraulic lines, making the aircraft virtually uncontrollable.

The fuselage ploughed into the nearby forest and the tail section landed nearby in a river.

Domestic: Kyrina rail strikes confirmed to begin on the 22nd, Imperial Guard mobilized
Dimitrios Drivas

Rail strikes, biggest in over 45 years, set to begin early Wednesday morning.

Thousands of staff at the Kyrina Division of Imperial Rail Networks (IRN) are set to walkout Wednesday morning, disrupting thousands of people.

Disruptions are expected to continue throughout the remainder of the week and into the weekend. Lead strike representative Alberto Cefalu says it is “the blatant disregard of the Kyrina Lordship to our needs has forced our hand.”

The Kyrina Lordship has said that “traitorous workers” are “inciting chaos.”

In response to the planned strikes, the Kyrina Lordship has mobilized the local Imperial Guard in order to deter and suppress any significant disruptions as well as “encourage” workers to rethink their decision of strike.

It is worth noting that workers have no right to strike in the Empire, and as such will be in violation of Imperial Decree 468 Section 3. The punishment for striking is 40 lashings and a fine of ₭38,500 ($700) for each day of striking.

Strike representatives are calling for at least a 5% raise in wages, in addition to better benefits and general working conditions.

The representatives claim that the Kyrina Division of IRN has currently only offered a pay raise of 2%.

The fact that the Imperial family currently holds a 37% stake in IRN has been brought up in negotiations, but no official comment has been made by the Imperial family or any Imperial correspondent.

Public view and opinion of the upcoming strikes is mixed, though most regard the strikes with indifference, while many express annoyance at the expected travel disruptions the strikes will bring.

It is yet to be seen however if the strikes will take place or at least on the scale expected by current representatives as the Imperial Guard arrive in the city this evening with more expected to arrive tomorrow morning.

Domestic: Resolute Dominion military exercise kicks off Monday as largest military exercise carried out by Doravo in 20 years
Petros Kravaritis

The triannual “Resolute Dominion” military exercise carried out jointly by each Imperial Military branch kicked off early Monday morning.

This year's exercise, planned to last twenty days from 20th June to 9th July, will include nearly 10,000 personnel, live-fire exercises, fly-overs, naval bombardments, artillery units, paratroopers, and special forces units while focusing around the carrying out as well as defence of a massive amphibious landing.

The nearly 10,000 personnel is almost a quarter more than the last exercise three years ago, and includes significantly more variables and directives.

Divine-Emperor Leto IX himself presided over the opening day of the exercise with a speech to the assembled troops. During which he stated the goal of this year’s exercise is to practice the Imperial Military’s primary purpose, “the defence of our great Empire and the citizens that call her their home.”

However, many observers have stated that more focus has been put into the carrying out of the amphibious landing than what has been put into the defence of such an operation. Nevertheless, Imperial Military spokesman Saverio Onorati has stated that the exercise “should not be seen as a provocation or show-of-force to any nation, merely as a reasonable action any military would take to practice national defence.”

The exercise is taking place on the shores and nearby ocean of Vicete, a barren, highly mountainous and volcanic island home of the notorious Doravan Inquisitorial Service who are also overseeing the military exercise.

Domestic: Imperial forces overrun major Misceri holdout, push rebels into retreat and disarray
Irini Mouchou

According to Saverio Onorati, the lead Imperial Military spokesman, Imperial forces led by Imperial Commandos overan a major Misceri rebel holdout on the northern half of the island of Tolava inflicting catastrophic losses on the rebel force.

Among the rebel losses was Captain Fulvio Villone, the lead orchestrator of the 2019 Alesian Airport Bombing responsible for the death of 72 people and injuring over 200 more.

In total the estimated rebel losses account to nearly 400 while only 12 Imperial soldiers are confirmed to have been lost.

Currently, an artillery bombardment carried out by the 31st Artillery Corps and aerial strikes by the Aerospace Forces is paving the way for the second wave of the ground assault planned by the Imperial Military.

“We expect a total capitulation of rebel forces on the island of Tolava by the day's end,” General Silas, the chief military general leading the way against the Misceri Revolt says.

The final significant rebel holdout in Tolava rests in the nearly abandoned industrial factory town of Sevil, 2km northeast of where the main frontline has been for the past week. Over the course of May and June the town has been under near constant artillery fire by the Imperial Military.

Updates of the upcoming assault will arrive as received.

International: Imperial government extends support to Lofthus as the nation ascends to observer status in the Eastern Tripartite
Alex Manakis

Doravo joins fellow ET members in expressing support to Lofthus in its ascension to observer status in the Eastern Tripartite, joining Doravo as a fellow observer to the alliance.

Doravan Chancellor Adrian Caruso said this as news spread, “as we ourselves hold observer status in the Tripartite, let me express support and excitement to the ascension of another nation in our grand alliance.”

Doravo has been one of the last nations to congratulate Lofthus of their ascension, but nevertheless offers sincere support of the nation in their foreign ambitions.

The Doravan government has also offered assistance and aid to the nation of Lofthus with their internal affairs. Doravo itself is currently suffering from its own spat of internal unrest from the Misceri Revolutionary People’s Front (MRPF).

Doravo also joins fellow ET members in condemning the sanctions and remarks from Costavozka in regard to Lofthus, saying “the actions of Lofthus as a sovereign nation are their own and no external force should disway them from their ambitions.”

This statement comes amid Doravan businesses eyeing opportunities in Costavozka as the nation relaxes economic isolation.

Foreign Minister calls for open dialogue in international community

21st of June 2022,
Vasca, Federal Republic of Uprea

Ever since Lofthus implemented their drone policy, nations worldwide have voiced their opinions on the topic. Many have chosen to take a side and have vigorously debated with each other to either stop this from turning into a human rights crisis or quit debating about Lofthus policy and simply leaving them govern their own.
While nations like Lesva, The Orwell Society, Balnik and Stosal have backed lofthusian President Palumbiak in his decisions, other nations like Costavozka, Dormill and Stiura, Havalland and also Uprea have called the 24-hour drone surveillance policy a giant human rights violation.
Following this nations have proceeded to slam each other through the media and press, which has resulted in tensions rising between everybody. The uprean Government has since called for an open dialogue between nations. While there have been attempts from both sides to find a understanding, the government felt the need to expressively call for searching for a common ground.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabriel de Rosario in a statement:
The current debate around Lofthus is a burning fire in The Western Isles. We see nations taking sides and with it, slamming other nations who have voiced different opinions. I see the points from both sides, but simple confrontation over the media is not the way to go. I therefore call for an open dialogue between nations. Most have already voiced their opinion and have brought fourth arguments supporting such. Why can´t we simply accept what other nations support and work from there.

We have asked our International Affairs and Politics Expert Alberto Dantas on the situation:
While de Rosario has called for open communication and the exchange of arguments between nations, the most likely scenario will be that nations who disagree with Lofthus will continue to impose sanctions. Meanwhile Lofthus will eventually fully shift towards the direction of the Eastern Tripartite, if Palumbiak stays President. While Balniki Foreign Minister is correct in his argumentation, that nations should simply stay out of domestic legislation matters, he does exactly the same, talking himself into slamming other countries domestic legislation responses in the form of sanctions to the Lofthus situation .
While the effort of the uprean Foreign Minister is applaudable, the fact of the matter remains it wont likely change anything. Matter of fact I am quite surprised that de Rosario even responded to the current topic. This is what politics in the modern era is. Politicians criticizing Politicians. However the Lofthus situation continues to be a hot topic as it remains a potential violation of human rights in the eyes of many different nations, which could be a reason for further international responses.

About a month since the NUBL Finals concluded and the Astulencia Blazers were announced NUBL Champions, the International Basketball Community can get excited once again as the start of the much anticipated TWI International Basketball League has been announced. With the best players from many nations, stadiums will be packed with fans. It is unclear yet, when exactly the Tournament will start and what nations will participate.
Our Sports Expert Diego Porta on the tournament:
The Tournament will feature the absolute best of the best and we expect the highest skill level possible will be played out on the court. Uprea has a very strong team which feature players exclusively from the NUBL. While the team has quite a few chemistry issues, the overall potential of this team is skyhigh. Of course, one can not neglect the fact that many other nations also feature extremely scary teams. Nevertheless I believe Uprea has very good chances, as it always has been with basketball being the main sport played here from young to old.
