Largest shipwreck in Vinalian history, discovered off of Orlavo.

President of the Vinalian Historical Association, Ivan Igalin announced that a team of scientists and historians from the Vinalian Historical Association, Orlavo Museum of History, National Museum of Velkarichka, Museum of Vinalia, and the Ministry of Culture discovered earlier today the remains of the sunken Mikolaevich. The Mikolaevich was a transport ship belonging to the Soravian East Arucian Trade Company, which was badly damaged by a storm at sea in December 1761 and sunk shortly thereafter. The shipwreck, discovered 32 nautical miles off of Orlavo, is estimated to be the largest such discovery in Vinalia, rivaling the discovery of the Bondarenko, a whaling ship which was discovered 4 nautical miles south of Ivanovo in 2009.

The Mikolaevich served the important route from Catherinsk, to Samistopol, while passing through Ivanovo, New Samistopol, and Orlavo before crossing the Lumine Ocean. The Mikolaevich transported numerous goods between Vinalian cities gathering cargo for its eventual trip back to Soravia, after leaving Orlavo the ship would have carried numerous items for sale such as Sugar, Tobacco, Kokhineal, furs, and precious metals such as silver and gold. The ship would have been at its most vulnerable during its exit from the East Arucian Sea, so Soravian ships would patrol the seas searching for pirates and Etrurian privateers, and organize convoys from the Asterias to Soravia and back. However the Mikolaevich which had set off in November 1761 headed from Catherinsk to Port de la Sainte in Sainte-Chloé to load up 166 Bahian slaves before returning to Catherinsk where they were sold and from where it started its doomed journey. Having missed the regular convoys organized from the Asterias to Soravia, the Mikolaevich was to meet with the frigate Kulikov in Apostola, which would escort it back to Soravia. However the Mikolaevich was caught in a rare storm after leaving Orlavo on December 26th 1761 and sank before ever reaching Apostola, with 85 men onboard.
The ship was rumored and a legend exists that the ship carried cursed Úuchmáan gold, which led to its loss at sea.

The team of experts lead by Historian Dr. Belonozhka Zumadze of the Vinalian Historical Association, had made a rough estimate of the possible location of the Mikolaevich in 2013, based on meteorological estimates of the time, and an acnedote from Lana Marshalkov on December 27th 1761 which states the arrival of a storm to Orlavo. Zumadze however would not receive the support required until 2021, when mapping software and sonar employed by the Vinalian military mapped the suspected area of the shipwreck. Divers were finally deployed to the shipwreck in May, who were able to identify a shipwreck in the area, and until two days ago that it was visually confirmed to be the Mikolaevich.

The group were not the first ones to look for the Mikolaevich, as numerous treasure hunters had attempted to look for the ship and its cursed Úuchmáan gold, which was rumored to have been stolen by Soravian authorities following raids on ethnic Úuchmáan towns in 1761. However, Zumadze stated that ships carrying precious metals would not have sailed to Soravia without appropriate defenses, and that the Mikolaevich, which did not belong to the Soravian crown, would have only been contracted to carry such metals back to Soravia under heavy naval protection. Making the Mikolaevich incredibly rare to carry any precious metals, due to its unprotected transport between Vinalian ports and then to Apostola, allowing privateers and pirates to steal the metals as the ship carried limited weaponry.

Zumadze stated that what follows is the use of divers to inspect the shipwreck and retrieve any artifacts recovered in the ship. The Vinalian Navy stated that it would conduct a formal ceremony for the 85 men who died on the ship. With all members of the expedition stating that the discovered items will be turned over to museums, and historical groups. Several legislators have stated their support for designating the site as a historical monument of importance, to conserve the location.

The wreck helps to explore Vinalia’s history, and will be studied by experts to further understand and comprehend Vinalia’s colonial past.

Alikianos Calling: Hennehouwe's Kenes
"ready" for final

Image
REPORTING:
Erwin Adams

It's been a whirlwind of a year so far for 21-year-old singer-songwriter Kenes Guret Harris, better known simply by her first name.

"Looking back at everything that's happened, I still can't process it all. Like, that all happened. And now this is all happening right now!" Two years ago, the Niersen-born singer released her first single completely independently, with no agent or publishing company to promote her work. She recalls ringing her local radio station, pleading with them to give her single airplay. "If I could go back and tell my 19-year-old self one thing, I'd tell her: Keep ringing them. Keep annoying them. It'll be the best thing you ever do."

As Kenes continued her studies at the acclaimed Muziekacademie in Zilverzee, she continued to release content on the various streaming platforms, with more and more attention coming to her lyricism and artistry upon each release. At the start of her final year of her degree, her friends encouraged her to enter her newly-written song, to whom she had played the tune for the first time, into the nation's most prominent music event: Het Grote Songfestival. The rest, as they say, was history.

In a crowded field of songs that included some of Hennehouwe's most popular and well-established artists, the rawness of Kenes' "Alles wat je doet", a song detailing the heartache felt in the wake of a painful break-up between lifelong friends, struck an immediate chord with the nation. Having been a complete underdog from the start, the song breezed its way to the final of the competition and began to ascend in the charts. In the grand final, and in front of an estimated five million viewers, the 21-year-old stormed both the jury and public votes to claim an emphatic victory. A week later, it topped the charts, staying there for another four weeks, though it has remained in the top ten ever since.

"When my friends encouraged me to submit the entry, I was kind of like, 'nah, they won't listen past ten seconds of it'. But, I guessed it was worth a try. Never in a million years did I think it'd get into the festival, let alone win. It feels like a fever dream just talking about it!"

Her win gave her the right of first refusal to represent Hennehouwe at this year's Euclovision Song Contest. Seen by some as a golden opportunity, by others as a poisoned chalice. There was no hesitation on Kenes' part. "They asked me at the press conference afterwards, 'Would you do [Euclovision]?' My answer was a 'f**k yeah'!"

Amidst the press tours, media attention and en masse airplay of the past few months, the singer has been ardently preparing for her trip to Alikianos. Endless rehearsals, stage planning, even the precise milliseconds of camera changes. At Euclovision, everything has to be perfect.

Since arriving in the Piraean capital almost two weeks ago, Kenes has been seen by some in the Euclo-bubble as a potential dark horse, with the Hennish delegation hoping that the simplicity and emotion of the song translates as well across the globe as it did at home, despite the language barrier. Tuesday's semi-final saw Hennehouwe qualify for the grand final, crossing the first hurdle and alleviating any doubts about the entry becoming 'lost in translation'.

All that's left for Kenes and the delegation is to give it their all during Saturday night's final. "It's going to be the most incredible moment of my life," the singer buzzed after the first dress rehearsal for the main event. "Everything's come together right when it needed to. We're all just so excited to go out there and give it everything. It doesn't matter to me where we come in the voting - just to be here is heaven in itself."

The Euclovision Song Contest 2022 final is live on De Eerste and Radio A, Saturday from 20:00 CET.

High energy prices fuel fragile growth

PIETERSBURG, KANAÄN - High energy prices are helping to grow Nuvania's economy, albeit at a much slower pace than anticipated according to State Treasurer Frank Bush, who made the announcement at a pre-budget conference with national business leaders.

According to Reserve Bank statistics released earlier this week, the Nuvanian economy grew by 1.12% during the first quarter of 2022, lower than the forecasted growth of 1.3%. The Reserve Bank stated that this was due to the impacts of increasing energy prices and inflation, the former acting as both a help and a hindrance to Nuvania's overall economic performance. Growth for the second quarter remained at a forecast 1.2% and growth for the remaining two quarters was revised down to 1.1% and 1.05% respectively.

While the return to positive growth was good for the Nuvanian economy, the State Treasurer said that the economy was still "incredibly fragile" and that the increase in the price of oil would undoubtly have negative impacts on future growth forecasts.
"We're likely entering a prolonged period of higher inflation due to energy insecurity and overall energy market instability," he said. "This will inevitably have a knock-on effect on the Nuvanian economy and will prompt future revisions to growth forecasts."

Bush said that the winding down of domestic oil production from domestic oil fields would increase Nuvania's reliance on imported oil, something which could prove a problem over the short term but would be reduced as NOM's plans to replace oil extracted from underground with oil created from gasification would come online. He said that overall Nuvanians would not only have to prepare for price increases both at the pump and at the supermarket, especially as oil soared to over 1,920 shillings a barrel overnight.

Oil prices are not only soaring; the price of coal has risen by 145% since the beginning of the year, from 2,448 shillings a tonne to crack the 6,000 shillings a tonne milestone, something which hasn't happened. Natural gas increased by 152%, from 55 shillings per million ETU to 140 shillings per million ETU. These prices have meant that companies that extract and export coal and natural gas, such as Alkmaar, are expecting to yield record profits this year on the back of these price increases.

Johan van der Merwe, an economist with the Reserve Bank of Nuvania, says that while high energy prices will cause some issues for Nuvanians, he said that coal and natural gas prices would not impact households here as severely as oil prices due to local production as well as arrangements in which companies that generate electricity and sell natural gas buy fuels at predetermined prices.
"It means that the companies are paying below market rates for coal and natural gas," he said. "This, in turn, means that prices on the market are cheaper, and profit margins higher."

But this surge in energy prices serves as a double-edged sword according to van der Merwe, who said that the current arrangements would only last for as long as the existing prices are agreed upon. He said that companies like Alkmaar would want to increase the export share of the coal they produce annually and thus reduce the availability of coal for domestic consumption. This would increase the price that electricity generating companies like Enekor would have to pay to receive coal, or look overseas for additional shipments.
"The current arrangements are based on circumstances and market conditions that no longer exist," he said. "Alkmaar and other mining companies will want to cash in on the higher coal prices and overseas demand and will inevitably reduce the amount of coal available on the domestic market."

Bush said that the price increases overseas would eventually have an impact in Nuvania, and that it could impact future growth, perhaps even pushing Nuvania back into recession. He said that rising oil prices were already limiting growth and this could only be exacerbated when other price hikes finally arrived.
"It would undoubtedly have a substantial impact on the economy," he said. "It would mean that the progress we made last year to get Nuvania back into the black again will likely be undone."

Despite this, Bush remained optimistic that price increases would not impact Nuvania substantially, as domestic companies were used to a certain cost for raw materials and would not want to face increases to their operations.
"For our electricity and gas sector, increased prices would be very bad news, so it's likely they'll try and keep their costs lower."

Revolutionary Command Congress passes "Plan for National Transformation and Security Consolidation"
RCC adopts the proposed five-year plan for government 255-0.
POLITICS by Abdullah al-Mosawi
26 May 2022 |6 Khordad 2343

File photo: The Command Congress Continuing Committee has begun the review of senior government positions.
The 43rd Revolutionary Command Congress has voted in support of the Central Authority’s proposed “Plan for National Transformation and Security Consolidation.” The five-year plan includes “economic resilience, technological development, common prosperity, spiritual and ideological mobilisation and the consolidation of security domestically and externally.” First Minister Gafur Qahor who led the championing of the plan said, “the Command Congress today has made the first firm step toward to enhancing the transformation of our Union and embraced our plan for the stability of Northern Coius.”

The delegation voted 255-0 in support of the five-year package that serves as a “guide for the enactment of authority and government, each providing a set end goal for the ultimate achievement of national and revolutionary advancement.”

First Minister Gafur Qahor led the Central Authority’s efforts in securing backing from the Command Congress telling the delegates in Izidhar al-Mina, “this Command Congress has revealed its wisdom, revolutionary spirit and commitment to the nation’s transformation, we ask that this extends to our five-year operational strategy that reflects the needs of the nation and indeed the coming age of confrontation. Our citizens and our neighbours are need for peace and stability, which we as a nation can provide through leadership and boldness. Peace, is our objective and strength be it national power or economic power is the means to achieve it.”

“Our strategic framework seeks to continue current policies regarding the economy, but to enhance the resilience of its structures, to continue diversification and adaptation. With GDP growth set for 11.6% this year, we will use the windfall from growth to facilitate further industrialisation and development with the aim of our country becoming of the ten largest globally by 2027.

“Our commitment to technological advancement remains steadfast, with a goal of increasing R&D spending by percentage of GDP to 5.5% by 2025. We will continue to provide state support for start-ups across the country and through education deliver our Union a new generation of digital workers and thinkers.

“Through our economic plan we will continue to work toward common prosperity, ensuring that all citizens of the Union see uninterrupted wage growth, improving living standards and opportunities. We will not permit a return to uneven or classist results, of one group advancing while others do not. This common prosperity will continue to fuel the spirit of Ettehad among us and reinforce our collective loyalty to the state, to the revolution, to the Union and to each other.

“Through ministries, state commissions and the military the Central Authority will begin the process of spiritual and ideological mobilisation, to enhance the commitment of the populace to national transformation, to even further consolidate Ettehad and prepare the masses for the age of confrontation the world enters. The Front must not be blind to the threats we face, as the Union’s power grows, the established powers will seek to hinder us and keep us down. We must possess the national and spiritual power to resist and persevere and only through mobilisation of heart and soul can this be achieved.

“Lastly, our strategic framework provides the means to consolidate security domestically and externally. Within the Union, we will continue to track down and bring to justice all party members and officers who engage in corrupt practices, undermining the moral integrity of the state and front. We will continue to root out those who would undermine our Ettehad, those who would promote or foster false identities and those who would turn against our state and our homeland for nationalistic or sectarian reasons. Externally, we will make strides toward rebuilding the security and stability of our region and all Northern Coius, we will work to establish a new security arrangement with friendly states in clear purpose of peace. In Yemet, our Union Forces will continue to provide the necessary support and assistance with no fear of martyrdom, but addiction to victory until such time that Yemet is one nation and one people again. We will work to achieve peace in Bahia and to consolidate the sub-continent toward integration and economic prosperity.

“On Tsabara, our policy remains the same but fluid, the Central Authority will continue to re-evaluate our position daily but remain conscious of the fact that peace in Tsabara will be the final hurdle in returning our region to peace outright and restoring calm to the Irfanic World. Yet, with each passing day, we must all come to recognise that the Euclean presence there does not work for the benefit of Tsabarans nor Coians but is a neo-colonial operation to secure a compliant puppet regime and foothold from which to exploit, divide and dominate the nations of Coius once again.

“The age of confrontation shall be born out of the ruins of Tsabara, this much we all know. The Eternal Struggle has reached its next stage, its newest chapter as our Union Fathers long said it would. We must be ready; we must be prepared for the inevitability of confronting this operation and do so with the national and spiritual power that will carry our Union and the cause of peace to absolute victory. Our Union is transforming and together as one people and state we shall see it through to its conclusion” he said to standing ovation.

Among the 288-page strategy proposal includes plans for further privatisation of several state-owned industries, reforms to property and tax law to modernise private banking and finance. Business laws will be further reformed to bring into line with international standards and a new and powerful auditing office will be established to combat mismanagement, shady dealings, and corruption. The package also includes the formal adoption of a new worker’s rights bill following heated debates with representatives of the mining industry and the formal reconstitution of Front Committees in all registered businesses to foster ettehad between employees and employers.

The goal of securing Zorasan as one of the 10 largest economies by 2027 is not new but brought back the objective date from 2030. The ongoing energy price hike has delivered Zorasan’s economy a major growth boost, but with the package promising further diversification and infrastructure the aim is seemingly to maintain growth over 10%. The increase of R&D spending will be welcomed by several delegates from Riyadha, Pardaran and Irvadistan, which have seen the emergence of “tech hubs.”

Economic resilience was not explained much in the written document, but various officials from the Central Authority did however explain that this would mean maintaining foreign reserves at or above €500 billion, diversifying imports of certain products, notably electronics and microchips as well as investing in domestic producers.

On Common Prosperity, the strategy proposes the establishment of government funding for small-to-medium sized businesses in rural regions of the Union, increased funding for educational scholarships for the poorest and enhanced employment rights and opportunities for women. The policy proposal also calls for a fight against “exuberant living and display” and the promotion of “austere personalities” from the wealthiest to avoid classist grievance.

On security, the package proposes the refocusing of the domestic security system into confronting “false identities and nationalisms” and “elements influenced or misguided by foreign ideals and thinking.” The owning and operating of “VPN” systems will now be punishable by 5-years in the Habsedar as the state seeks to crackdown on citizens accessing blocked or banned outlets digitally. The package also calls for harsh sentences for those who question the “national transformation and security consolidation.” Crackdowns on anti-Union thought will also be implemented targeting socialism, Badism, atheism and classist grievance making and the establishment of so-called “conservationism” as economic disruptionism. Citizens who engage in protest for “green politics” will face charges of economic terrorism.

On spiritual and ideological mobilisation, the proposal includes laws mandating rally participation, increased Front activity at the local level and the re-introduction of spiritual mobilisation sessions and lectures in the workplace. The Front and public information will praise and laud resistance and the cause of peace through strength to all Zorasanis and further efforts will be made to celebrate our shared spirit and heart as a collective people.

Lastly on security at home and abroad, efforts will be made by the state security system to tackle forces and elements that undermine Ettehad and territorial integrity. The proposal includes a 3% increase in state security spending and a commitment to spend €5.5 billion on further modernisation of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, including the expansion of the Revolutionary Navy and missile forces. The proposal also includes opening the Union Development Fund and Union Investment Authority Fund for use in “aiding and supporting Coio-Bahian nations.” Externally, the government will work to establish a new trade and security organisation for friendly states in northern Coius. The proposal also calls for the Revolutionary Command Congress to accept and pass the military’s Strategic Security Review and Report, which is likely to classify the Euclean Community as a “hostile entity and threat to Coian peace and stability.”

The passing of the proposal marks the first major achievement of the current Central Authority since it came to office last November. Tomorrow, the membership of the Central Authority, Union Ministries and State Commissions will be reviewed.

We will bring you updates as the Command Congress progresses.

Revolutionary Command Congress confirms biggest overhaul of the Central Committee since Unification
Apex of government radically overhauled as Continuing Committee appoints new members
POLITICS by Abdullah al-Mosawi
27 May 2022 |7 Khordad 2343

The Revolutionary Command Congress has backed the Continuing Committee’s overhaul of the Central Committee of State, in what is the biggest change to the apex of government since Unification. The Continuing Committee approved of the State Presidency’s proposal to radically alter its membership to now include key Union Ministries and State Commissions, as well as increasing the number of seats for the military.

The Continuing Committee’s work on reviewing the membership of the Central Authority began on Wednesday and that night received a speech by State President Rahim Ali Haftar who presented his proposals for overhauling the Central Committee for the aim of “improving the governance of the apex, by including the necessary ministers and state commissioners who’s work is integral to the transformation of the Nation.” Specifically, sources say, the State President wanted to include foreign and economic policy chiefs at the top rather than limiting them to the Council of Union Ministers, this he said would also “streamline the receiving and analysis of data from the Union Republic level and make collective decision making more centralised.” He did not however make calls for removal or appointment; this decision was made by the Continuing Committee alone. For non-ministerial members, the distribution of “cross-government duties” were also reorganised, with party-office holders also being granted duties beyond their original remits.

Among the changes was the creation of the General Office of the Central Committee, headed by Ablayar Hesso. The GOCC is tasked with aiding the Central Committee in organising its day to day duties and collating the necessary information and advisors for the creation of policy and legislation. The GOCC will also work closely with the Secretariat of the State Presidency to assist the leader in daily administration. The Party Office for Policy Formulation has also been established by merging several party offices, it is the aim that this new body will establish better methods of long-term planning and ease the distribution of "information and data from across the country" to enable the Front and government to respond to needs and adapt to changing circumstances. The inclusion of the Finance Minister and Governor of the Central Bank will also guarantee the Central Committee's ability to formulate economic, monetary and fiscal policy more efficiently and competently.

The Continuing Committee approved of the organisational reforms, but ultimately also removed and replaced 8 members of the Central Committee. The eight were removed for "sub-optimal work" or "persistent resistance to the general direction of the Central Authority." They were replaced with highly respected party officers from the Union Republic level in keeping with the "upward motion" convention of the Front which mandates members are drawn from the level below, rather being moved horizontally. However, the notable except was the appointment of Deputy First Minister Sardar Sadavir Hatami as Union Minister for National Defence.

These changes were approved of the Revolutionary Command Congress resulting the new Central Committee as below:

State President Rahim Ali Haftar: “We are entering a time of struggle and we will prevail”
State President concludes 43rd Revolutionary Command Congress with a speech calling for unity
POLITICS by Abdullah al-Mosawi

State President Rahim Ali Haftar addressing the Command Congress.

In the concluding speech of the 43rd Revolutionary Command Congress in Izidhar Al-Mina, the State President said, “we are entering a time of struggle, a struggle between powers, ideas, and aspirations. A struggle between the exploiter and exploited, the rising and the decaying” before saying further, “This struggle will determine our power or subjugation, we will triumph because we must, and we will prevail.” It comes as the Union-Government took a marked shift to the right with the rise of Sattarist-Traditionalists across the entire Central Authority.

Marking the success of the five-day Command Congress, the State President said, “this week, we have made history. We took the necessary steps to prepare our nation and our Union for the coming age of confrontation. For we are locked in an inevitable struggle, one that will define this century and indeed the fates of entire nations. We are locked in a struggle even if the other side does not know it or see it. Yet from our actions here this week, take pride and comfort that we do know, and we do see what is to come. It is your actions here this week, that delivered to our Union the path to absolute victory.”

“With our reformed Central Committee, we will have the space and flexibility to react and adapt to circumstances, with the addition of key figures we will possess the necessary information, data and reports to adapt, innovate and reform. With the Five-Year Strategic Plan, we will possess a clear path along which we will face resistance but will ultimately bring peace at home and abroad. These two developments are your achievements. Have faith and trust in us now, to deliver on our plan, to deliver peace” he said.

“Security at home is the key to security beyond. For a secure home is a unified home and it is through our unity, our ultimate strength that we shall find the power to rise when needed in defence of the defenceless. It is our unity in purpose that is our shield, our unity in being is our spear. It this shield and spear that carried us up from the chaos of 1946, along the arduous path of resistance, revolution, and struggle and ultimately, carried us through to reunification and rebirth of our nation and our people” he said further.

The Delegates and Central Committee members attended a military parade to mark
Khordad Rebellion Day.

“Let us not be blinded nor distracted from what is to come. Our Union Fathers in their wisdom saw the reality of mankind, that all of us, nation and tribe would be locked in the eternal struggle. It was the same as the day the Prophet, peace be upon him, took the word to the peoples of the Shah millennia ago. It was the same when the Custodians of the Faith of the Dominions of Heaven took the word to far-off places and against them, stood the Atudite and the Solarian. It was the same during the Gorsanid era, before and after its subjugation by the Euclean. It is the same today. We are locked in a struggle against our rivals, the justification is irrelevant, the cause unimportant, all that matters is victory.

“We are entering a time of struggle, a struggle between powers, ideas and aspirations. A struggle between the exploiter and the exploited, the rising and the decaying. It is a struggle against the aspirant and the arrogant, the humble and the prideful, the past and the future. We know that the decaying, yet established powers will seek to deny us our rightful place in this world, they will seek to deny the Irfanic World its unity and peace, they will seek to silence us as the Irfanic World’s voice. They will seek to deny the truth of Zorasan and the reality of Zorasan because they fear decline and they fear the inevitable. And so, we must ever be ready to fight for our rightful place, prepared to struggle and resist, for our victory is the herald of the coming world. This struggle will determine our power or subjugation, we will triumph because we must, and we will prevail” he said to loud applause.

In the final act of the Command Congress, the body formally passed the “Action Plan for the Re-Integration of the Dandan-ye Azdar Territory”, officially declaring the territory return to the Irvadi Union Republic and Sattari People. Though symbolic, it consolidates the territory under the Union’s governance in party law.

To mark Khordad Rebellion Day, the Command Congress together with the newly formed Central Committee attended a military parade in central Izidar al-Mina, witnessing units of the 3rd Banner Army present themselves before the leadership. Similar parades took place across the country to mark the 104th Anniversary of the failed Khordad Uprising against colonial Etruria, led by Union Father Mahrdad Ali Sattari.

Talia Caselles will now lead the party

Encerosa, Tosutonia: Tosuton Regional Premier Talia Caselles, the favorite amongst party members for leadership after Esmeralda Falcão announced she will be leaving the position and holding a party election, has won that election and will become the new leader of the Social Democrats. She also served as leader of the regional Tosuton section of the Social Democrats, she announced she will be replaced by her deputy Ignasi Altarriba as leadership of that position.

Caselles won with 44% of the vote being over 20 points ahead of second-place Belo, with overwhelming support within Tosutonia, where she won 84% of the vote. One Tosuton SD voter stated that she believes Caselles is "a protector of women's rights and us Tosutons are thankful she has stood up for us against the Patron League. Having her lead the whole party and hopefully win against the LP government in the next election is what we want, she can now fight for women's rights for all Paretians."

Of the other candidates, Carolina Belo won 21% of the vote, not close enough to compete with Caselles. One notable thing is that Rosita Sosa Reis, the biggest rebel against Falcão's leadership within the SD, came out in third place, with 20% of the vote. Sosa Reis was originally polling fairly low until recent days. Paulo Bracamonte came in fourth with only 11% of the vote. And Martín Nevarez with 3% of the vote.

Talia Caselles gave a speech in the Tosuton Assembly in Encerosa today after she was announced the winner, stating "I thank the people of Paretia and my people of Tosutonia for giving me the opportunity to lead the Social Democrats. Under my leadership I will seek to beat the Patron League, again, I did it once in Court, now its time we prepare to do it in the next elections. Right now Cerqueira must be frustrated, her and the LP's agenda is not going as planned, that is certain. Their goal to turn Paretia into a neo-functionalist style government like the Tribunes will not succeed, we have the ability to stop them, and we will."

Premier Cerqueira stated today in response to the news of Caselles's victory "The Social Democrats vote for the champion of dead children, who fought us tooth and nail for abortion in Tosutonia. It does not get much better than this, does it? She also says I am frustrated, the Patron League have a plan to win, we will not let the liberal-leftist death cult have a hold on this country. We have a plan."

Talia says she plans on changing up some positions within the party's leadership in the near future, and the party will begin to attempt more stops against the Patron League-led government. New SD Tosutonia leader Altarriba stated that he will continue Caselles's agenda for the regional section of the party. It is likely he will run for Regional Premier in the next election, if Caselles wins on the national level.

Economic review of May see's Vinalian economy recovering but inflation cause fear.

A review on the Vinalian economy during the month of May, and what looks to be ahead for the country. As fears of inflation, tensions in Coius, and lack of supply have impacted global energy markets, as the price of goods increase worldwide.

As the price of a barrel of oil has risen, the cost for Vinalians have grown not only at the gas pump, but at the supermarket, when booking a vacation, and on ordering foreign goods. Vinalia is not alone, as the whole world has struggled with the rise in oil prices as a result of speculation, under supply, and concerns over energy safety. Vinalia, the world's 14th largest producer of oil, has remained on the lower end of concern, as the state-owned PetroVinalia has maintained prices relatively stable to ensure lower prices for Vinalians. However foreign companies and refineries have taken advantage of the rise in prices, leading to foreign companies exporting more to higher value markets or charging PetroVinalia higher for use of their refineries. PetroVinalia as well, is set to lose as it can’t pit to foreign markets where the price is higher. However all of this is heavily impacted by the rise in prices of diesel in Chistovodia for land transportation of goods, and trans-Lumine ship transportation, leading to a rise in prices regardless of PetroVinalian strategy, although the company is set to make big earnings this year.

Vinalian energy exports have risen considerably, and the Vinalian export economy is set for high gains. However the importation of goods has risen considerably as well, and many question the ability of foreign markets to increase demands of goods. Avocado prices in Chistovodia have increased substantially as the cost of transportation from Vinalia to the supermarket have increased, consumer willingness to increase or maintain consumption of these goods as prices increase is being tested. While energy companies including PetroVinalia benefit from the rise in cost to transport said avocados, the producer and the consumer do not. Other sectors such as the sugar and coffee sectors do not face such hurdles as consumers will at least maintain the same consumption as before, as these products will be consumed regardless of price increases. Minister of Agriculture Katharine Ochiuriushka summarized the situation as an “exchange between different sectors and products”, Vinalian buying of motor vehicles declined, although vehicles made in Vinalia saw an increase in sales, as they’re cheaper than foreign imported vehicles. Importation of Senrian electronics remained stable, while importation of Chistovodian electronics increased, due to the difference in cost.

Agricultural products sold in Soravia will see a decline as consumers opt not to resume spending patterns on these products, in turn increasing prices as products are not as attractively sold abroad. However it brings benefits to consumers, as prices for these products dip down in Vinalia. Coconut consumption in the country has increased as the price of the product has decreased, suddenly coconut exporters can enjoy gains locally, although foreign demand and prices can be hard to compare with locally.

Household spending remained stable, as Vinalians maintained similar levels of consumption as in April, as supply chains and goods have adapted to the rise in prices. Household spending on services had increased 0.5% compared to a decrease of -0.1% during April. Although alarmists have spoken of recession, such a situation is unlikely to happen in Vinalia, stated an investing agent from the Velkarichka Board of Investment “A recession in Vinalia will only happen if recession happens abroad”, stated Orlav Meshka. Stocks in the Velkarichka Trade Exchange remained stable through May, indicating growing confidence in the market and consumer spending.

Red Coast and other companies which maintain local manufacturing have seen increases in their stock value, as consumers change and adapt their spending habits. The export economy has seen a shift in sectors as stated before with Meshka stating that Chistovodian consumers of Vinalian air conditioners will not increase their consumption but will replace faulty units as the Summer comes along, while they might maintain or reduce the consumption of Vinalian watermelons.

As June rolls along the half of the year will come along, as will the results of the 2nd Quarter 2022 at the start of July. Meshka stated that Vinalians took advantage of the two public holidays on May 1st and 5th allowing for greater travel and consumer spending. With two public holidays on July 12 and 25, many Vinalians will enjoy summer travel and spending, as the school year ends, aiding consumer spending.

Government tables bill declaring Catholicism state religion
New amendment will proclaim Solarian Catholicism the state religion, Episemalism and Atudism become National Religions and secondary amendment enshrining "marriage as between a man and woman"
NOTIZIE by Aurelia Bossi

President Francesco Carcaterra announced the bill to the Chamber this morning.

The government has announced plans to table a constitutional amendment declaring Solarian Catholicism the state religion of Etruria alongside commitments to heterosexual marriage. President Francesco Carcaterra told the Chamber of Representatives, “it is time to enshrine our constitution, the faith we hold dear as our cornerstone.” The bill is likely to pass with speed due to widespread support among Tribune, Social Party and Farmers and Workers Union senators.

The bill, “the Amendment on the Status of Religion” seeks to amend the constitution, declaring Solarian Catholicism the state religion but affording “significant rights and protections for Sotirian denominations and non-Sotirian religions”, with Episemalism being classified as a “National Religion” alongside Atudism. The restoration of Catholicism as the state religion will enable the government to pass legislation in line with the Catechism without judicial review, grant the Catholic Church significant say and influence over social policy and will enshrine conventions granting the church tax exemptions, auditing exemptions and property rights.

Alongside the amendment are further sub-amendments including the declaration, “Etruria, as a Solarian Catholic Nation and Federation will uphold the institutions of family and marriage as the union and product of a man and woman.” As a result, same-sex marriage and same-sex couples adopting will require a constitutional amendment to be legalised.

The President who announced the tabling of the bill said to the Chamber, “it is only right that today we make the firm step toward declaring our commitment to God and our faith by declaring Catholicism our state religion. We are undergoing a great revival and awakening, we are edging close to our God and saviour with each passing day and through our shared faith, may virtue and principle make our society stronger and more united than ever.”

“Though as we declare ourselves dedicated whole to our Catholic faith and our Catholic Church, let there be no illusion or fear that our fellow Sotirians not of the universal church will in any way be endangered in their rights. This amendment will declare with confidence, Episemalism and Atudism National Religions, faiths of national importance and respect out of respect to the followers of these great teachings” he said further.

“Marriage is the bedrock of the Etrurian family, which itself is the bedrock of our society. It permeates our lives daily, we cherish the family for its stability, its identity and purpose provided to us. What is Etrurian life without the family?” he said.

“This amendment will enshrine in our basic law the reality of our life and enshrine our commitment to the cornerstone of Etrurian life. We will affirm marriage as the sacred union between man and woman, to protect our families from the excesses of the day found elsewhere” he told the Chamber to applause from Tribune lawmakers.

The leader of the people’s opposition, Chiara Mastromarino in her response said, “yet again, this government has pursued in its actions not an issue of benefit to any Etrurian, but an effort of further division among Etrurians. No one in this country is in any doubt that we are a devout Catholic country, and so I ask what is the purpose of this amendment? It is truly depressing to see this government use our most precious document as merely a tool of scapegoating, division and bigotry.

“I would ask the President whether he was aware of what effect this amendment will have on his own and his party’s favourite punching bag, though I suspect that alone is the very justification for it. I urge all members of the Chamber to think clearly and openly about what this amendment will entail” she said, receiving jeers from government lawmakers.

Mauro Cesare Capra, the embattled leader of the Citizens’ Alliance said, “this government is systematically dismantling the constitution of 1984. The document so many gave their lives, blood and tears for. We have no state religion because we are not homogenous in faith, we have no state religion because we are inclusive and respectful and while I applaud the government for being generous enough to offer protections for Episemalists and Atudites, may I ask where are those protections for Amendists, Irfanics, Badists and all other minority faiths? Why are they absent? These are important questions and I recommend the government answer them.”

The President replied to both simultaneously saying, “for the SD there is no action that government takes that to them, is free of some accusation. We could pass a law on parking tickets and the good Lady would accuse us of discriminating the carless. As for the good gentlemen, all faiths have adequate protections as of today, there are just more Episemalists and Atudites in our country than there are Amendists and so we do what we must out of that reality.”

The bill will likely pass with the 2/3 majority needed to avoid a constitutional referendum in the Chamber by 10pm tonight when the vote takes place. It will then proceed to the committee stage, where the Tribunes hold a majority meaning it will likely head to the State Council of the Federation tomorrow morning where it will also likely pass the 10pm vote tomorrow evening – per the legislative order signed off by the Speaker of the Chamber.

The passing of the amendment will check off another Tribune promise made in the 2021 federal election. However, the timing will likely have an impact on the increasingly inevitable state election in Novalia, which tops the ranking of church attendance out of all Etruria’s 15 states.

The amendment will send another body blow to Etruria’s long-suffering LGBT+ community, who will likely see the possibility of same-sex marriage being legalised in the country in the future dashed all but entirely. The wording of the sub-amendment; “union and product of a man and woman” will also likely be used to justify the stonewalling of same-sex couples adopting children, which has already worsened since 2018.

This amendment together with the earlier amendment granting the unborn the right to life will all but guarantee long-term blockage of any non-Tribune government legalising abortion and same-sex marriage. After six years of Tribune rule, the government has remade the constitution in its own image and secured Etruria as one of the most socially authoritarian countries in Euclea.

BREAKING Davor Krstičević resigns as FWU leader
Davor Krstičević resigns as federal party leader following weeks of infighting.
NOTIZIE by Aurelia Bossi
06 June, 2022

Image
Davor Krstičević will be succeeded by Marija Šovagović on an interim basis.

The Federal Leader of the Farmers and Workers Union Davor Krstičević has resigned saying in a short statement outside the party’s headquarters in Supetar, “It has become clear over the past several weeks, that I no longer possess the full confidence of the federal or state party, I regret that the situation reached this point, but for the sake of Novalia and the party I am stepping down as leader effective immediately.”

His stepping down follows weeks of infighting over the direction of the party. The Farmers and Workers Union, which is in an alliance with the Tribune Movement and Social Party of the Third Order through Patria, has been gripped by bitter internal divisions over the direction of the party and the lack of responses to the SD which is surging in Novalian polling.

Krstičević who served as Prefect of Novalia from 2013 to 2018 before taking up a seat in the Chamber of Representatives was keen to keep the party firmly planted in its traditional agrarian and social conservative roots, however, the state party and many within the federal party have been just as keen to push the party to the right. As a result, Krstičević has been locked in a struggle against the incumbent Prefect Franjo Sarič.

Addressing reporters after a meeting of the Federal Committee Krstičević said, “for several weeks the party has been gripped by frank debate and discussion, sadly, this has devolved into insults and instability. It has become clear over the past several weeks, that I no longer possess the full confidence of the federal or state party, I regret that the situation reached this point, but for the sake of Novalia and the party I am stepping down as leader effective immediately.

“Effective immediately, deputy leader, Marija Šovagović will assume the leadership on an interim basis. I will leave the details and organisation of a leadership election to the Federal Committee.

“I wish to conclude by saying that it has been absolute honour and privilege to lead this party that has served Novalia and all Etrurians with dignity, responsibility, and effectiveness. I wish my official successor all the luck in the world, and I will prayer for their and the party’s success for Novalia deserves good governance and not a return to the hapless incompetence of the PSD” he said before returning inside.

With Krstičević now gone, the likely successor is Vlatko Dobrila, a figure firmly to the right of the party and to even some, further right-wing than the Tribune Movement. Dobrila has sat in the Chamber of Representatives since 2013 and has drawn a considerable following in Novalia for his outspoken religiosity, nationalism, unionism and attacks on the media and opposition. In 2012, he infamously told a meeting of the Novalian Association of Tarpeia, “When we redeemed Tarpeia we only did half a job. There’s Novalians in Piraea and Juznavia that need redeeming, that’s a fact.” During the 2021 federal election when the Tribune lead collapsed prior to the ARE scandal, he told RepubblicaTV, “if those bastards [SD] win, we’re going to need to call on the EDF to step up again. Its that or we end up like Sodom and Gomorrah.” Unsurprisingly, he was slammed on social media after chirpring, “Of course the Caldian pretty boy won. Euclovision is a festival of degradation of everything that made Euclea what it is.” He has also been an outspoken defender of the military regime and the various unionist militias that fought in the Western Emergency.

However, some in the FWU think the rules may be changed to enable the state leader to also head the party altogether. This would enable Prefect Franjo Sarič to lead the party, with Dobrila serving as Federal Coordinator, as was the party structure until 2010.

Sarič for his part has drifted to the right since the 2021 federal election, when the SD made gains at the expense of the FWU, even in rural areas. The prefect is known to be a close ally of President Francesco Carcaterra and equally eager to push the party to the right where some believe the FWU will be able to claw back voters. The party has reportedly suffered from its close ties to large agribusinesses over its traditional base of farms owned by families or communities. Sarič’s desire to end those ties for a return to the people reportedly sparked clashes with Krstičević and his allies.

The loss of Krstičević will likely put the Tribunes on edge who are keen to see the FWU prevail in the next state election, as the loss of the state would deny the government ten State Councillors and its 2/3 majority in the upper house. This loss would deny the Tribunes the ability to amend the constitution without a referendum.

More as this story develops.

Cerqueira announces bill to create new government organization to "oversee" public libraries
Cerqueira announces creation of government board with the goal of "overseeing" books that Paretia's library's will showcase, under the Ministry of Culture, which will "showcase" and "push back" specific books in display in libraries, stated they will not be banning any books.

The National Library of Paretia, Precea

Precea, Luzela: Today Premier Isilda Cerqueira announced a new bill pertaining to Paretia's public library system. It would create a national government body made to oversee what is in libraries, and which books are put on display first by the public libraries. Cerqueira stated that the organization will not ban books in any manner, but instead will create a list of recommendations to libraries and have lists of books that will be showcased more frequently than others. It will also act as a regulatory organization recommending the moving of books away from being shown in libraries, stating that this system will make sure the public library system will make sure they showcase and recommend more "suitable" books for Paretia. It will likely see the recommended push back of books sexual or violent in nature.

The bill is known as the Jimeno Carazo Library bill, named after one of Paretia's greatest writers, Jimeno Carazo, author of the novel El Caballero Talentoso. It is stated by Cerqueira that the organization would be known as the Jimeno Carazo Association for Paretian Literature. The organization the bill would create would be overseen by the Ministry of Culture, as the Culture Ministry is already attached to the nation's Public Library system. The organization will also see to regulating school libraries.

Critics, incuded new Social Democrats leader Talia Caselles, who stated that the bill will "work as a soft ban on books, they wish to remove of literature that they feels threatens their power, this organization will be politicized that is certain". The concern is that the vagueness of some of the bill is an attempt to get around Free Speech law, despite not outright banning books, they say that they will try and "hide" books that dispease them in some fashion. Critics say the bill will discourage authors who write things that would likely be pushed back or hidden away by the organization.

Supporters of the bill include Culture Minister and LP member Paulo Sérgio Lima, who stated it will give new authors recommendations to libraries and have them be displayed at the front and display areas of libraries, as well as oversee that explicit books be put towards the back. The system will try and put specific books in the library's showcase but also put books in a back section, these books being recommendation to be "pushed back" by the new organization. The organization will also hold events for books recommended by it, with the goal of showcasing these books foremost. The government also stated possibility of a similar organization for Museums.

Some have stated it is putting control of th libraries firmly into the hands of the government and taking power away from the individual libraries in the public library system, as well as nonprofits such as the Paretian Library and Literature Association. The National Assembly will likely vote on the bill soon, the Patron League in full support so far, but some doubts are being held among some of the Alternative Party.

Von Hösslin announces he won't run in the NKP presidential contest.
Move effectively ends his premiership after a spate of electoral setbacks and corruption allegations.

WESTBRÜCKEN, WERANIA - Premier and National Consolidation Party federal president Otto von Hösslin has announced today that he won't contest the NKP presidential contest slated for the 28 June thus likely signalling the end of his premiership.

"It's become clear to me that I have lost the confidence of my colleagues and therefore can no longer continue to serve as the NKP's president. It would not be fair on Werania for me to take up the government's energy in remaining in office when we still have big-picture reforms, like the flat tax, like a balanced budget amendment, to realise. I therefore intend to use my remaining weeks in office to make sure my successor as NKP leader can continue the government's focus on streamlining public services, trimming expenditure, boosting our global defence capabilities and stopping immigration and crime from getting out of control" the premier stated to reporters.

Von Hösslin's decision came after state elections that saw the NKP decimated. Although the NKP held onto office in Cislania - largely off the popularity of Cislanian Minister-President Bartholomäus Stobrawa - they suffered losses elsewhere with the opposition Euclean Werania replacing the NKP in Prizen and Wolfsfled. Reportedly after the election Stobrawa told von Hösslin he had "less then zero" support from the Cislanian NKP to continue in office, a factor in his resignation.

Besieged over allegations of rewarding state contracts to donors and friends von Hösslin attempted a last-minute blitz to prop up his premiership this week floating the idea of a cabinet reshuffle and attempting to cajole the parliamentary party to shore up his numbers in the face of a likely revolt from the provincial branches. These appeals fell on deaf ears and it seems the premier had to concede he didn't have the numbers to sustain the premiership.

Von Hösslin has steadily lost popularity as the Hosokawa scandal has shredded the image of his government which combined with the rising price of fuel from the Tsabaran war has eviscerated the NKP's standing in the polls. Von Hösslin's popularity in particular has tanked being consistently behind his party even as the NKP has been behind the opposition Euclean Werania for several months.

Von Hösslin came to power as being a consensus builder within the party able to promote the cause of right-wing populists whilst keeping the centre-right on side on the basis of preventing the percederation of the NKP that has affected over Euclean conservatives such as the Etrurian Federalists, Gaullican Conservatives and Paretian Conservative Union. With the recent collapse in popularity however von Hösslin has been seen as a liability with the terrible state election results being a death knell for his leadership.

With von Hösslin out of the picture the NKP have an open field for a leadership contest to be held on the 28 June . Candidates that have been mooted already include the Cislanian Minister-President Bartholomäus Stobrawa, Interior Minister Jörg Bullmann, Justice Minister Andrea Däubler and Defence Minister Anton Raicevich. The NKP vote for their leader in two rounds first in an electoral college of federal parliamentarians, state parliamentarians and MEPs and finally NKP members. If no candidate reaches a majority in the electoral college then federal parliamentarians decide the final candidate amongst the top two ranked.

VIVIEN VALLETTE ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO SEEK ASE CANDIDACY FOR EUCLEAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

Image
Vivien Vallette, Vice President of the Euclean Community and
Commissioner for Foreign & Global Affairs, served as the Acting President of
the EC during President Ualtair's hospitalisation.

Kesselbourg City, Kesselbourg - Vice President of the Euclean Community and Foreign and Global Affairs Commissioner Vivien Vallette, who served as Acting President of the Community from February-May, has announced his intention to seek the nomination of Socialist Alternative for Euclea (ASE) in the upcoming Euclean Presidential elections.

Vallette, grandson of the former Gaullican Premier and President Jean Vallette, is regarded as being a political protégé and rising star within the ASE due to his familial links, popularity in Gaullica and his prominent positions within Euclean politics. Despite having never served as a national leader, Vallette was chosen by his party to serve as Commissioner of Foreign and Global Affairs in the Walker-Hermansdohter Commission. Prior to serving within the Commission, he was an MEP representing Gaullica's Social Democratic Party within the Euclean Parliament.

Following President Ualtair's hospitalisation, Vallette assumed the rule of acting Euclean President -- where he oversaw the continued implementation of the workings of the Walker-Hermansdohter Commission as well as take a strong, legalistic and affirmative action against Paretian actions that were ruled to be counter to the agreements of the Euclean Community. At the age of 35 he is one of the youngest political faces in Euclea; younger than Gaullica's youngest president Monique Degar-Abdulrashid, and if elected President of the Community would be its youngest ever president and one of the youngest elected heads of state in the world.

At an event earlier today, he put long rumours that he was entertaining a run to rest by confirming them. He said: "This is something that does not come lightly. I have thought about this for a considerable amount of time. Some of the papers have said I have been thinking about this since before last year even begun. But the truth is I have been entertaining it; I spoke to my family -- my grandfather in particular -- my friends, my wife. I wanted to know how this would affect them as well as me."

"But in truth," Vallette continued, "during Madame President's unfortunate hospitalisation I was given what I was entertaining without seeking it. Thrust into that position, being able to cope with it remarkably well, being able to do it without it encroaching into other elements of my life. That confirmed it to me. I am running because I know I have the capability to do so. I have the support of my family and friends, who know that this will be a momentous task but one that can be achieved. It is with this in mind that I am announcing my intention to run for the Socialist Alternative for Euclea's candidacy for Euclean President."

"There are many challenges facing the Euclean Community in this new decade; and there are many bright things to look forward to as well. We are on the cusp of a truly Euclean Community this decade. And it is time for a stronger, more political, more engrossed generation of young Eucleans to make themselves heard."

As of writing, the ACDE and Avant are still in processes of their own primaries, whilst the ASE primary has one other confirmed contender: High Commissioner Niina Hermansdohter, who announced her candidacy in January of this year. It is speculated that the Hennish Premier, Rupert van Bleiswijk, may also be entertaining a shot at the presidency. The ASE primary will take place over a two-round voting period on July 24th and 31st, where party members will be able to cast their votes in who should represent them in the presidential race.

ANALYSIS| Lavanas sham free elections
Following announcement of free elections two months ago, theres limited proof of free elections awaiting Lavana
2022-06-10T 18:20:30Z

Although Lavanan Premier Laina Keomany had promised free and fair elections in the country's first democratic election since 1958. Little of the free and fair part has been seen or will be seen. Registration with authorities of both candidates and political parties for the September 1st election, will close on Friday and campaigning will begin as soon as that happens, however only for parties which were represented in the Lavanan Congress prior to June 10th 2022, which reduces that amount to one single party. The Lavanan Section of the Workers International. All new parties may only begin campaigning a month prior to the election. This is just one way in which the Lavanan elections have been pre-decided.

Currently there exists 7 major contenders aside from the ruling LSWI, that is the Ziban People’s Party which itself is composed of former LSWI members, the Majgar Front composed as well from Majgar former members of the LSWI, the Socialist-Solarian Understanding party which is too composed of former LSWI members who are Solarian, the Worker-Labour Front which is likewise composed of former LSWI members. The only non-LSWI aligned party is that of the Maral Gavagamu Alliance which is a party formed around Maral Gavagamu a son of former of a former Republic of Lavanan official, which sole difference from the remaining parties is that its led by members who are not part of the LSWI, but rather has close ties with the Dezevauni Section. Most of these parties appear to be LSWI continuations in anything but name, and appear to solely exist to give credibility to the free part of the election.

Additionally, anonymous voting, a necessity in most liberal countries, has been given limited support. Individuals who write in a name in their ballot, are required to write it twice, once in their ballot and a second time in an exclusive table in the public. One must write it twice or the vote won’t be valid. This allows intimidation and shaming by bystanders and individuals outside the voting locations, along with removing anonymity when voting for non-approved parties.

Dissidents and relatives of dissidents in exile have not had their political aspirations approved in Lavana. Phet Rustemegrath the son of a Republican general who lived in exile in Werania following the collapse of the Republic of Lavana, stated that he attempted to register a political party two times in Lavana, but was not allowed as its a requirement to register inside the country which foiled his first attempt, yet the second attempt was foiled due to irregular funding after a sympathizer registered the party inside Lavana.

“It's all for show, they’re not interested in democracy” he said during a phone call, but he stated he wasn’t interested in actually running for office, rather just exposing that the election is a fraud. “My family don't believe that there's going to be any relevant change, so I wasn’t too worried about what would happen if I got through” he stated in the call. So far no parties not aligned to the LSWI or other sections have not been approved, excuses usually end up in irregular funding or improper documents submitted. Although the Lavanan authorities assure that write-in candidates are allowed, few actually expect many to go through the process of write-ins. However elections for the LSWI will be hotly contested as moderates and reformers are set to duel it out over control of the Congress and the new Upper House, as they rush to fill the power vacuum left by the purge and removal of the more hardline faction in the recent coup.

However the decision of the government to move their plans for federalization until after the elections attempts to bring some legitimacy to the plans of Keomany. The Premier, at the height of her power, has repeatedly stated the need to bring the periphery into Pers, which is something minority groups in the country support. Support for Keomany and her policies have grown exponentially, and many are hopeful for the future. Numerous parties have stated their support to introduce laws to protect minority languages and culture, in their new respective federal system. Rallies in Ukilen towns and villages showcase grassroots movements in support of Keomany and she has repeatedly stated the need to rid the country of its dark past. That saw Lavana terrorize its citizens of minority groups. “Lavana is not the same country, it's a better, more fair, and equal country,” she stated to a rally last week.

Although Lavana walks towards sham elections, the hope of lasting change in minority regions, and the prospect of a new Lavana has many hopes for the country's future. Although there's limited hopes for political change, as the Councilists are set to maintain control, many remain optimistic of what a more moderate and open LSWI can bring to the table.

Jimeno Carazo Library bill passes both houses of the Senate
The bill will create the Jimeno Carazo Paretian Literature Association, which will regulate "showcased" and "pushed back" books. Added rules for books pushed back by the association, including those 18 and under being required parental consent to order sexual or explicit books. The bill however has shown cracks in the LP's less extreme ally, the Alt Party.

Premier Cerqueira in the Assembly House during passing of bill

Precea, Luzela: The Senate of Paretia has passed the Jimeno Carazo bill in both houses it first passed the Congress House in a 195-165 vote with four members of the Alt Party voting against it. It passed the Assembly House in a 65-55 vote with 2 Alt Party members voting against it. Cerqueira oversaw the passing in both houses, as well as Cultue Minister Paulo Sérgio Lima, the biggest mind behind the bill, he stated plans on a similar bill for museums.

Before the vote began, Patron League Assembly member Felipe Pacheco requested an addition to the bill which was supported by the party and added before the vote, the addition is to include a law that would require parental consent for books ordered by those 18 and under if the book were pushed back because they contain "sexually explicit and other explicit themes, including violence and emotionally scarring themes".

The bill was criticized by many as being a threat to free speech and claims that the new organization will be weaponized by the Patron League to be used on books that go against their agenda, and to promote books they support. SD leader Talia Caselles said that the bill is "dangerous for free speech, what they want is control over what our children and others read." The bill has seen some protests outside of libraries and LP offices in some cities across Paretia, although not as massive as previous ones.

In response, Culture Minister Paulo Sérgio Lima said "This bill is meant to promote Paretia's beautiful literature and writers, this organization will focus on showcasing new authors, Paretian authors of great influence, as well as unknown authors that are believed to be ignored. It will push back books mainly in our schools, to keep explicit and dangerous material from hurting the minds of Paretia's youth. It is by no means meant to be political."

The bill saw some split amongst the Alternative Party, the LP's more centre-aligned ally in the O Povo alliance. 6 members in the Senate voted against the Jimeno Carazo bill and were critical of the party's leadership for their support of the LP. Cristòfor Tarrés, who resigned from his cabinet position after the passing of the Women's Cultural Reform Law, vote against the bill and called for the leadership of the Alt Party to leave O Povo, he also stated intentions of splitting off from the party with others who are against the far-right LP if change does not occur soon. This could jeopardize the Alt Party's as well as the Patron League's futures.

Shangean government announces price controls on fuel as prices rise
13 June 2022| By Xue Guo

A gas station worker refuels a car in Zhunyai.

ZHOUJIA - The Shangean government has today forced the Shangean Petroleum and Gas corporation to take a potential €17.6 billion financial hit as the Ministry of Economic Planning imposed a 10% ceiling on price hikes for energy, causing the company to lose a large amount of its value.

Despite continuing to import large amounts of oil and gas from Zorasan due to global energy instability from the Tsabaran civil war and rising energy prices in Euclea the Coordinating Ministry of Financial and Economic Affairs has admitted that to ensure families and consumers are protected from "unsustainable price increases" that the Shangean government will move ahead with energy subsidies to prop up the domestic market.

"This decision will mean we will have to reduce state expenditures in some areas of social policy" Economic Planning Minister Qin Yuanjun has confirmed. "However in order to ensure that price inflation is restrained and timely planning can mitigate market downturns we can ensure a consolidation of growth-based market reform can continue with minimal social disruption".

The government also announced that Shangean Petroleum and Gas and the Nuclear Energy Corporation are to sell excess electricity generated from their services to rival home suppliers at below the current market prices with the government to underwrite their losses.

Due to the current high price of fuel the government has remained committed to a programme of economic austerity designed to reduce inflationary pressures at the expense of rapid growth, a policy that has been in place since current coordinating economic minister Mao Lejiang took office in 2018. The government have confirmed that ensuring inflation remains low remains a "top priority" to ensure steady growth in favour of a boom-and-bust scenario.

Under the existing pricing mechanism if international crude oil prices change by more than 50 kuai per ton and remain at that level for 10 working days, gasoline and diesel prices in Shangea will be adjusted accordingly according to the Committee of Economic Planning and Resource Allocation. Under the new mechanism when the rise passes the 10% threshold it will be frozen at that value.

NARAPANESE GENOCIDE BILL TO BE VOTED ON MONDAY
The bill had been debated on in the Senate for the past couple of weeks as its progress slowed

Senator Lorette Abel, speaking with the press as she left the Capitol Building for the day

Port-au-Grégoire, Île d'Émeraude -

The saga of the Narapanese Genocide Acknowledgement seems to be on the verge of concluding(?), as Senator Lorette Abel, the author of the bill whose become a popular figure lately, has called for a vote to be held on the NGAA. The bill has been debated on in the Senate for a number of weeks, and supporters of the bill grew impatient with the insistence of the Conservatives to continue debate. Some have suspected that the Conservatives aim to keep debating the bill until it completely loses momentum and dies in the Senate, but many Conservative Senators have denied these suspicions.

Abel has expressed her impatience, and recently stated that "the time for talk should be over. The time for action is now. Another moment wasted on empty debate and platitudes is another moment where justice remains unserved." Her impatience was echoed by President Benjamin Claude, who briefly stated "that bill should've been on my desk yesterday, and I want it on my desk very soon." Conservative Party chairman Fabien Caillat expressed his "disappointment" with his colleagues, saying "it should be unacceptable to attempt to needlessly speed up Senate procedure simply for political gain."

Regardless, Abel has pushed forward with a vote, motioning for one to be held on Monday once the Senate reconvenes after Sunday. The motion would pass in the Senate 87-48, with each Unionist and Workerist member voting in favor as well as 4 Liberty Party members, making the vote official. This could lead to the bill passing by similar or exact margins come Monday, but that still remains to be seen as of this writing.

Supporters of the bill within the populace applauded the measure as "overdue", while those in opposition are rather split on the matter. Some have condemned it for similar reasons as Caillat, while others are in favor of holding a vote for the sake of striking the bill down. However, it seems likely that come Monday, the bill will pass the Senate and make its way to the desk of President Claude, where it will just about certainly be signed into law. When asked about the possibility of the bill passing, Caillat said that "needlessly burning bridges with Gaullica will prove to be one of the biggest mistakes anyone has made in the history of our Republic. Hopefully my colleagues in the Senate will realize this and not allow this bill to pass."

Unfortunately for him and other opponents of the bill, it seems his goal of rejecting the NGAA is unlikely to happen. Soon, we may very well be facing what some call justice, and others call childish- the recognition of a Narapanese genocide.

NARAPANESE GENOCIDE BILL PASSES THE SENATE
The bill in question now heads to the desk of President Benjamin Claude, who will certainly sign it into law

Vice President Michaël Lamar, reading the results of the vote aloud

Port-au-Grégoire, Île d'Émeraude -
History has been accomplished in the Senate, as the Narapanese Genocide Acknowledgement Act, an act to recognize the treatment of Narapanese natives during the early colonial era, has passed the Senate by a vote of 87-48, which is the exact margin that that motion for a vote had passed by on Friday. The controversial bill now heads to the desk of President Benjamin Claude, where it will certainly be signed into law. President Claude himself celebrated the vote, saying that "at long last, justice can be served to those who perished due to the atrocities committed by Gaullican settlers. It is long past time for us to have done this, and we must take further steps to insure it may never happen again within the shores of our nation." Senator Lorette Abel, the author of the bill, would also celebrate, posting a Chirp where she applauded her fellow Senators who she says "made the right choice".

Various Narapanese rights groups, including the largest in the nation, the National Narapanese Rights Association, applauded the vote as well, with the NNRA making an official statement that read, in part, "This is a well appreciated and long overdue measure that has just been taken by the Senate today. Our ancestors who faced these atrocities will thank this country for reckoning with its past, and we pray that we will keep moving forward in the direction of equity."

Opponents of the bill in the Senate have notably been rather quiet on the results of the vote, with even Conservative Party chairman Fabien Caillat not being available for comment. However, opponents within the populace have made their voices heard. One such opponent would post a Chirp going on a tirade about how "the Senate just made a big [expletive] mistake" and "set back Gaullican-Emeraudian relations to the Emeraudian Spring". Gaullica's response to the controversy that surrounded the bill was to push reparations off of the table, though in wake of the controversy Gaullica has promised to significantly raise their foreign aid budget. Many within Île d'Émeraude have criticized this as "an attempt to sidestep their responsibility" and "avoid a much need confrontation with its colonial past", though many of these criticisms have fallen on deaf ears in Verlois.

President Claude will sign the bill into law on Wednesday in the White House, the residence and workplace of the President, where he will be surrounded by Senators who helped make the bill's "monumental" passing possible. The ceremony is expected to have a considerable amount of publicity, which is to be expected considering the controversy that has surrounded the bill. Once it is signed into law, it could have big implications on many aspects of our Republic, and our world as a whole. It could set a precedent for a similar bill to demand reparations for damages caused by the slave trade in the Arucian, of which Île d'Émeraude was a major depot of. It will likely alter relations with Gaullica significantly. It could be the spark that lights the fire of colonial reckoning across former colonial possessions of Euclean powers all over the world. Whatever may come of this, it will certainly have an immediate impact once the NGAA becomes law. What these impacts will entail, we can only wait and see.

Beheran Independence Day Parade Reveals New Military Ties
Presence of Shangean-sourced armoured vehicles indicates greater ROSPO involvement in north-central Coius

15 June 2022 · Written by: Jim Wickham

A group of Type 80 main battle tanks on parade in Amassine

The Beheran Armed Forces showed off its military might in front of tens of thousands of celebrating citizens as the republic marked 69 years of independence since it officially abolished the protectorate status imposed on it following the Great War. In addition to next year's 70th anniversary celebrations, this year's parade held extra significance owing to the brief military intervention in neighbouring Yemet following the emergence of a new faction within the raging civil war that Amassine considered to be a threat to its territorial integrity and national security.

Following the complete withdrawal of the Beheran Armed Forces from Yemet, the Beheran government declared victory, despite the rebel faction now fully reintegrating back into both the new military junta in Girota and the People's National Liberation Army of Yemet (PNLAY), albeit significantly lacking heavy military equipment. Behera, largely unsure and somewhat hostile to the new regime, was clearly keen to demonstrate its military prowess to the new regime, and the independence day parade clearly was directed at the new regime in Girota.

For the Beheran president, Sadid Bassou Sharifi, the parade felt more like an ancient Solarian triumph rather than a celebration of national pride, although it is clear that plenty of pride was on display if state media was anything to go by. Arriving by motorcade, Sharifi greeted invited dignitaries before delivering a speech praising the spirit and steadfastness of the Beheran people as well as the Beheran personnel who were part of the intervention in Yemet. At the end of the speech, Sharifi made some vague threats about the dangers still present in Yemet and for vigilance to be maintained. After this, the parade commenced.

Beheran soldiers showed little in the way of deviation from previous parades in terms of equipment and weapons on display, with the standard assault rifles, machine guns, submachine guns, and rocket propelled grenades displayed by the soldiers. Of some note were parading soldiers lacking standard footwear; some wore modern combat boots while others wore boots or shoes akin to older or more formal parade dress. The uniforms themselves were more or less standard, with the Beheran Army still yet to formally display any of the more modern infantry equipment or weapons some sources claim it possesses. Soldiers from the Army, including some who are claimed to have fought in Yemet, marched past the President and dignitaries, as well as personnel from other military units and military acadamys. Personnel from the National Gendarmerie were also on parade, including a unit of mounted infantry on camels, signalling the end of the infantry parade.

Armoured vehicle losses were apparent in the parade as the usual vehicles present were displayed in smaller numbers. Light vehicles were displayed first, these being jeeps of various descriptions. Among the new vehicles revealed included Safir light jeeps armed with a variety of anti-tank and other heavy weapons onboard. Among those on display included what appeared to be Shangean Type 85 ATGM's not previously known to be in Beheran service. These were labelled as "Sarib ATGM" on the vehicles displaying them. There is some speculation as to these being ST-8 Remah ATGM systems licenced produced in Zorasan, as Zorasani military aid is believed to be being received by Behera in earnest. In addition, Gaullican-manufactured ACMAT ALTV and VLRA 2 light vehicles were on display, these also being recent acquisitions. Domestic designs were on display, including the Sarsar-1 wheeled armoured infantry vehicle, which was revealed to the public for the first time. Several of these participated in the parade ahead of the armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. Few Type 80 infantry fighting vehicles were seen at the parade, the more older Type 66 being the primary vehicle on display alongside Type 60's, Type 70's, and older variants of the Type 80. Combat losses are likely to blame for the more muted infantry mobility presence.

One of the surprises of the parade was the reveal of several Shangean main battle tank models, some of which were known to be in Beheran service but never officially included among inventories. Notably the presence of T-72AV's was lacking, instead replaced by older T-72M variants with desert camouflage schemes eerily similar to, if not exactly the same as, the schemes used by Zorasani tanks. Shangean main battle tanks on display included older Type 59's modifed to G standard with ERA armour, these tanks having not participated in previous parades. Of more significance was the revealing of both the Type 80 and VT-1A in Beheran service. While the presence of the Type 80 was unconfirmed, the VT-1A is not known to have been officially acquired by Behera, and it's presence suggests that the Armed Forces have been looking further abroad to fill the losses inflicted in Yemet. Shangean certainly would benefit from finding customers outside of its traditional allies, and this indicates that Behera may have been firmly entered into the ROSPO sphere of influence.

Alongside the reveal of Shangean military hardware was continued evidence of substantial Zorasani military aid to Behera, including the first known public display of Zorasani-sourced unmanned aerial vehicles, the most notable and capable of which is the SAI Zamboor-3, widely alleged to have produced much of the footage that circulated around Beheran social media and played on state television. UAV's like the Zamboor-3 are where Behera hopes to have an edge in the northern Coius arms race, particularly as relations between Amassine and Girota sour once again. How many of these aircraft are officially in service is currently unknown, but most sources point to an estimated total of less than half a dozen owing to training and resources.

The Beheran Air Force rounded off the parade with an aerial display, including more brand new aircraft, these being Gulka G-12MKI aircraft. Again, it's unknown if these aircraft were officially ordered from Soravia or if they were received through back-channels, or as surplus from elsewhere, particularly as Ajahadya also operates and licence manufactures the type. In addition, FOC-67M's and Gulka G-9's and G-10's were on display, both featuring separate fly pasts. Mi-24 and Mi-35 attack helicopters participated in the fly past, as did Mi-17 transport helicopters, some fitted with unguided rocket launcher pods. Various training and transport aircraft provided the rest of the fly past, and no notable differences were present.

The presence of Shangean armour within the Beheran inventory is something that could represent a significant shift in the power dynamics within north-central Coius, particularly if this is indicative of an increased ROSPO presence within this region. Behera in the past has typically avoided siding with one particular political or military bloc, preferring instead to have a variety of options and seek assistance from different spheres of influence accordingly. This could signal a change in this political policy, and the further strengthening of ROSPO's position within Coius.

University of Burges announces a review of Bullmanns doctorate over plagiarism allegations.
Announcement could end candidates bid for the NKP leadership as the Interior Minister comes under heavy criticism.

WIESSTADT, WERANIA - The University of Burges, the alma mata of interior minister and NKP vice-president Jörg Bullmann, has announced today that it would open a review into his doctorate over concerns that his dissertation had been "substantially plagiarised".

The academic standards committee determined that Bullmanns dissertation - which is based on the status of migrant communities in constitutional law - could hade failed to conform to academic standards citing over 70 potential examples where Bullmann appears to have failed to cite the correct author or not citied an author at all. Burges University stated they are continuing to conduct a "thorough and complete" investigation but had made the decision after a "careful review".

Bullmann has stated that he "does not recall all the sources used in my doctorate" but stated that he did "not intend to mislead anyone in regards to my dissertation". The interior minister did criticise the timing of the announcement calling it "politically motivated".

Allegations of plagiarism have dogged Bullmann for a while since a left-wing magazine, Think!, found the interior minister had seemingly lifted large parts from a speech from Etrurian vice-president Vittoria Vasari in 2018. However this recent announcement could put fresh pressure on Bullmann.

Reportedly the investigation opened after a leak came through from a NKP colleague highlighting how Bullmann had failed to cite several Bundestag reports on migration. The leaks may be revenge for the Hosokawa leaks from von Hösslin loyalists who believe that the ambitious interior minister was the one to leak the information in a bid to derail the premier's position.

The announcement could end Bullmann's bid for NKP president. Already another member his right-wing populist faction, Defence Minister Anton Raicevich, has entered the race which could put pressure on Bullmann to stand aside to give his faction a clear shot at winning.

Man sentenced to prison following freak attempted murder of wife, utilizing parasites.

Yesterday a Vinalian man was sentenced for attempted murder, and lying under oath. Following the deliberate attempt to kill his wife in 2020, following a domestic incident that saw the man infect his wife with a parasite. He will serve 25 years in prison.

Barech Chiuchia, a 27 year old man from Catherinsk, went to the University of Orlavo graduating in 2019 with a Master’s degree in Parasitology, where he worked in the Universities Agricultural department researching parasites that affect pigs. His ex-wife, Marya Kublena, a 25 year old accountant, met Chiuchia through a mutual friend in 2015 and the couple married in 2018. On Sunday December 13th 2020, the couple had a major fight that resulted in Barech leaving the residence, however Barech continued going to work and returned the 15th to his residence. However fighting continued and by Friday 18th following a dinner, Barech left the residence and did not return. Marya filed for divorce on December 23rd, citing irreconcilable differences.

On December 21st, Marya began feeling ill, reporting headaches, lack of desire to eat, shortness of breath, and fever throughout her body. Symptoms did not improve, and by the 29th she was hospitalized in Orlavo Eastern Side Hospital. She was hospitalized with acute respiratory distress, which doctors believed to be related with Pneumonia or Asthma as the patient had a history of Asthma. Additionally doctors reported the appearance of hives throughout her body, which caused concern for doctors and were the first indicator of a greater issue. Marya was treated with antibiotics, but these were not successful, and her condition worsened. On New Years eve, doctors discovered live larvae of a parasite following its isolation in stool samples, which established the infection as the result of a parasite. Doctors switched their treatment to utilizing anti-parasitics, which greatly helped Marya and by February 2nd, she was released from the hospital.

Laboratory tests showed that Marya had been infected with the roundworm Ascaris suum parasite. However numerous scientists have theorized that A. suum and its closely related brother Ascaris lumbricoides, which is the most common parasitic worm in the world, to be the same species. A. lumbricoides causes Ascariasis which is found in 11% of all Vinalians according to a 2020 study, and is fairly common, however A. suum had never previously been recorded to infect humans. Thus making the case a breakthrough discovery, with the case serving as a baseline for future infections of A. suum.

Marya began legal proceedings against Barech soon after leaving the hospital, as she accused him of deliberately infecting her following a fight. By a request of Marya, the lab where Barech worked was revised, and it reported that samples of A. suum were missing, causing the police to search for Barech starting February 12th. Barech was discovered two days later after he was detained by the police for driving under the influence outside of New Samistopol.

The trial began in January 2021, with Barech, denying infecting his wife with the parasite, instead he argued that Marya contracted the disease while eating in a street food establishment on Avenue of the Asterias, as she frequently ate lunch there. He stated that Marya had been infected with Typhoid fever at a street food location back in 2018, and that Marya continued eating at similar locations prior to her infection. Marya stated that Barech had threatened her numerous times that he could “Make her pay”, stating that he had told her that after leaving initially on Sunday 13th, 2020. On that Friday, Barech cooked dinner for them both which she called to be out of the ordinary, stating that she could not enter the kitchen while he cooked, as he instructed her not to do so. Following dinner, Barech, who had packed his bags the day earlier, left the residence and never returned. Experts stated that infection was possible by street food, but that organisms found in the sample were A. suum which were unknown to be able to infect humans. Barech stated that he believed that A. suum and A. lumbricoides to be the same species. Experts however stated that a healthy adult could not be infected in such quantities and to such severity by street food, and that in 85% of A. lumbricoides cases the infection displays no symptoms, along with the fact that most Vinalian cases of Ascariasis occur below the Tropic of Cancer and thus mostly concentrated in rural South Vinalia, saying that an infection of such magnitude in North Vinalia would be unlikely. The judge ruled that Barech’s defense relied on an unproven view on the lack of taxonomic differences of both species, but found no way to fully judge Barech as guilty of poisoning his wife, allowing him to go free in February 2021.

Marya who obtained a restriction order against her ex-husband, began receiving emails from an unknown source harassing her in early March, she stated she was able to decipher it was Barech, and decided to meet the stranger at a public location, where the police apprehended Barech for violating the restriction order, and harassment. Upon inspection of his computer however they discovered incriminating information, which allowed the case to be reopened. The case was reopened last month. The police opened a new investigation with photos of the S. suum eggs used in the infection, along with posts on online forums, and searches for “Hitmen”. Further research by the scientific community started following Maryas infection, revealed that such a large infection was unnatural, and instead required a long period of infection which was not seen during Maryas case. Barech was sentenced to 25 years in jail, along with lying under oath. Barech did not contest the ruling.

Split in the Alternative Party puts O Povo governance in jeopardy
Over the past few months there has been a noticiable divide amongst the Alt Party and it's members over the party's support of Premier Cerqueira and part in the O Povo alliance government
Manoela Gonçalves (@ManoelaGoncalves) | 18 June 2022 | Precea

Image
Leader of the Alt Party, Horácio Pacau
Precea, Luzela: The Alternative Party has been comfortable as the third largest party in the country for the past year, but within itself there is a problem, it's core message is splitting apart amongst it's members. Some have gone towards echoing the Patron League and Cerqueira's government, the right-wing side of the party generally. Some have become very critical of Cerqueira and have voted against her and the LP's most controversial bills, including the Women's Cultural Reform and Jimeno Carazo Laws.

This comes as no surprise to some however, the party has always tried to advertise itself as a "Big Tent" party that accepts any ideological member as long as they supported independence from the EC, as the party's populism and eucloscepticism are it's two core messages. The Party however has had trouble keeping it's Big Tent platform under it's alliance with the Patron League, shifting the party further to the right than ever before, to the point where it is questionable whether some of the party has much difference at all with the Patron League's platform.

Recently the Jimeno Carazo Library Law has caused uproar amongst the party, Cristòfor Tarrés, who resigned after the passing of the Women's Cultural Reform Law, has stated he is "unsure if he fits within the party anymore, the chance this party can exist without being swallowed up by the Patron League is too high. We should return to our original ideals, populism, big tent politics, and direct democracy."

Horácio Pacau has not commented on the current state of the party, which although mostly voting for the Jimeno Carazo bill, has appeared to have lost it's original image. Some are speculating whether the party will try and have a vote on leadership as well as the possibility of leaving the O Povo alliance if need be. If the Alt Party did end up making this decision on the latter, the state of Cerqueira's government would be in peril. It would end up becoming a minority government, governing alone with a slim margin against the Socialist Unity opposition, as well as the other opposition parties such as the MEV and CC, and perhaps the Alt Party.

Some speculate the possible split apart of the Alternative Party into two new parties, one right-leaning and the other centre-leaning. The chance of the former possibly joining into the Patron League is also likely, as by then the ideology of the two parties are so similar it is likely the right-leaning party would be drowned out by the LP.

The party has already begun to hold meetings to discuss this issue within the party.

Mayor of Vịnh Thủy, Đặng Xuân Trường, being arrested by the Van Dieu
Today in Nainan the country's secret police agency, the Authority of Culture and Investigation, known shortly as the Van Dieu, began arrests for nearly 500 government officials, claiming of connections between the officials and local organized crime, commonly known as the Rễ Cây (lit. the roots). These include local, regional, and federal officials, including over a dozen Mayors of cities and towns in Nainan.

Agency Director Lý Lý Huy said this today at a press conference, "These officials, public servants are being arrested by our Agency due to their betrayal of Tự Ý Chí thought by working closely with these organized criminal groups. These include bribes, paying off criminals, using criminal activities to accumulate wealth, including fraudulent use of government funding. Some of these officials are on the pay rolls of organized crime groups that we have taken down in recent months. They will be dealt with by the Agency."

The Van DIeu arrested various public officials, some with recognition amongst the populace such as Đặng Xuân Trường, Mayor of Vịnh Thủy. Some outsiders of Nainan have criticized the arrests stating that the officials who were arrested were ones those in opposition to the NPSL's leadership. Đặng Xuân Trường is one who was greatly critical of the Social Credit system being tested in Nainan, Vịnh Thủy was one of the cities that system was first used in.

The government has not made any comment on the criticism from the regime's critics outside of Nainan. Some supporters of the regime has said that the arrests are not political are deal with removal of corrupt officials from the government.

Premier Quách An Tương stated today "We are fixing a problem that has been hurting our people, the police operation taken earlier this year brought light to evidence of hundreds of our own public servants working with these crime organizations. This corruption has made us decide to begin operations within the party to rid of officials who work with these groups."

Some critics have pointed out that the police operation has made a perfect excuse for arrested such a large number of officials, they believe it is for means of getting rid of opposition. So far around 496 public officials have been arrested, according to the Nainese government. These officials will be put on trial in the coming months.

Abramov Approves Small Business Subsidies Amidst Parliamentary Conspiracy

Image
Novigrad - Keeping in line with his New Year's address, President Abramov has approved a subsidy package for small businesses. The term "small businesses" is used to describe mercantile entities within Ravnia that have small numbers of employees and or profit margins. This is to ensure that the aid in this subsidy package is only being sent to businesses that need it. A secondary package for medium sized businesses is currently in the works within parliment, garnering support from both the NCF and RSF.

This marks continual cooperation between the NCF and RSF on issues outlined by President Abramov in the New Year's address. Some have speculated that the two parties may be bound by some form of "gentlemen's agreement", where they have agreed to pass certain legislature. While not a popular theory now, this conspiracy is beginning to catch on. One man, a dairy farmer named Ivan Danilenko from the interior, had this to say about the theory:

"Well, to me it's a disgrace. I grew up watching these two blocs go after each other on the TV all the time, now there all friendly with each other, makes watching the news boring."

Tarpeia declares a state of emergency over forest fires
Image
Tarpeia is struggling to contain four separate fires that have forced over 10,000 to evacuate.

The Tarpeian state government has declared a state of emergency and requested federal assistance as it struggles to contain at least four major forest fires. In a televised address, Prefect Nero Orlando said, “the situation is worsening and is moving beyond our capabilities, therefore I have officially declared a state of emergency and requested federal assistance.”

Tarpeia has been struggling to contain four separate fires that erupted over the course of the previous two weeks. The largest, Capricorno is located north of Centuripe and has torched the coastline, burning up to 559 km2 of woodland and shrubland. At least 5,600 people have been evacuated from communities along the coast, while the Tarpeian Office of Public Safety reports that up to 280 homes have been destroyed by Capricorno. The second largest fire, Acquario is located further north near the town of Carmiano and the border with Piraea, it has burnt up to 300km2 of forest and shrubland and forced a further 6,000 people from their homes as a precaution. Smaller fires, Toro and Pesci located inland have seen some containment, though both threaten the Tarpeia National Nature Reserve should winds carry the flames eastward.

In response to the growing threat posed by Capricorno and Acquario, Prefect Nero Orlando declared a state of emergency and requested federal assistance. He said in a televised addressed via ARE Tarpeia, “the situation in our state is progressively worsening. We are witnessing severe hazards and rapid growth of these fires, particularly Capricorno and Acquario. While I will praise from the heart, the work and dedication of Tarpeia’s fire fighters and volunteers, they alone cannot contain these fires.

“It is now clear the situation is worsening and is moving beyond our capabilities, therefore I have officially declared a state of emergency and requested federal assistance. I have also requested the federal government to activate the Auxiliary Defence Force of Tarpeia, which will open further manpower to assist in evacuations and firefighting” he said.

Giuliano Adriano Gabanna, the Director of the Federal Office for Disaster Response and Civil Defence said in a brief statement to reporters last night, “we are aware of the situation in Tarpeia and are moving rapidly to provide all the assistance necessary. We are coordinating to Novalia and Palestrina to facilitate the deployment of firefighting planes and helicopters to Tarpeia as well as the deployment of further firefighters.”

President Francesco Carcaterra has spoken to Prefect Orlando by telephone this morning according to a press release from the Office of the Presidency. He will chair a meeting of the Federal Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee for Disaster Response this afternoon.

The OPS in a statement released before the Prefect’s televised address confirmed the deaths of five individuals, “as of this morning, we can sadly confirm the deaths of five citizens. Three perished because of smoke inhalation from the Capricorno fire, while two were reported missing initially in the vicinity of the Acquario fire, it is our position that these two individuals had returned to their homes for belongings and were sadly caught in the advancing fire. We urge citizens to not return to homes once evacuated.”

Tarpeia has been struck by high temperatures and gusty winds coming off the Acheolian Sea, which together with the lack of rainfall in the spring has left the state bone dry. The high temperatures have also been inflicted on Novalia and southern Palestrina, raising fears of a wider a forest fire season this summer.

This is an ongoing event, we will bring you updates as we receive them.
