2020: The Grand Game

Image

And so it begins....

The year is 2020, and the world has never seen more wealth, never such a great bounty of food, never such rapid progress in science. Still there is much conflict and unrest sweeping the globe in the wake of social, political, and technological changes in the last few decades. In the Americas, Columbia was rudely disabused of the notion that the great oceans surrounding it rendered it invulnerable to the petty conflicts in Europe and Asia. After the September 11'th Attacks the Columbians found themselves in Afghanistan, fighting a rising tide of radical jihadism alongside an unlikely ally sharing a common enemy, the USSR. Indeed, the Soviet Union stands astride both Europe and Asia, looking in each direction as China attempts to assert control over Asia and rip it's Asian allies out from the Comintern while in the Middle-East and around the horn of Africa, the Entente and Comintern are inching dangerously close to the edge of madness. In western Europe, the old European empires solider on, but the Entente is divided, between it's three great founding members all pulling the alliance in a different direction, the Anglois toward the world's oceans and the Italians to the Mediterranean while the Germans look ever eastward with a wary eye as a state of unease has descended on the continent in the wake of the Yugoslav War of the 1990's. In Asia, China seems poised to rise to a grand station it believes to be it's by right. However, not all look kindly upon China as it expands it's influence, Japan struggles to hold on to what little is left of it's former Empire while in India the government is divided between those who seek a modus vivendi with the Chinese Dragon and those growing increasingly panicked over their country's encirclement by China, at the same time Soviet ally Vietnam and Columbian ally the Philippines are locked in disputes with China over the nine-dash line. In Africa, hope for peace after the brutal South African War was dashed by the wars in Darfur and South Sudan while a Jihadist insurgency grips the Sahel where militants hide in the vast wilderness and among the civilian population, awaiting their chance to strike while around the Horn of Africa, both Italy and the Soviet Union extend their reach trying to exert pressure into the Suez trade lanes.

Will the Entente stay united and find common ground even as conflicts of interest fray the bonds of the alliance? Will the Soviets stand tall and strong as the unquestioned hegemons of the Comintern and prevent China and the Entente from nibbling away at edges of it's sphere? Will Columbia, awakened from it's torpor and pulled into the world stage retreat back across the oceans, or assert it's will upon those it encounters on distant shores? Will the Chinese extend the rightful rule of the Middle-Kingdom across the Asian continent and remake it in their image, or have the Chinese bitten off more than they could chew? Will Japan be able to hold on to what is left of it's old glories, and perhaps find a way to bring new glories to the Empire of the Rising Sun? Will the Indians find a path for themselves and will the Rio Pact or the Latin American Alliance secure hegemony over the southern half of the New World. In this shifting world only one thing is certain. The winds of change are blowing and when they do, some people build walls while others build windmills.

The tipping point begins in the year 2020...

As he finally sat down at his desk within the Palicio Josè, Manuel realized with a shock that it had only been a... week, now, since his (surprising even to himself) victory.

He had been constantly busy since the announcement, preparing for both the transfer of power (which, thankfully, went off without a hitch) and (in the long term) for the upcoming party council (that was, luckily, in a few months, and the Bukharinists were on-board at the moment).

As he snapped himself out of these thoughts, he called the current President of the Legislature (who happened to, thankfully, be outside of the Bukharinist Circle), to begin drafting a few bills.

As he reclined into his chair while the phone rang, he had one thought:
There was much to be done.

Dealing With Rural Damage:
Proposed Legislation: Fund for the Repair and Restoration of Rural Communities (FR3C)
Part 1. (1): A monetary fund consisting of an amount of currency able to repair those areas with lingering damage from Hurricane Mitch shall be formed, with a council of individuals overseeing it.
(2): The amount of currency required for such an endeavor shall, before the fund is created, be discovered through an regional census with the purpose of visiting farms to determine what damages remain.
(3): The council in control of the monetary fund shall, utilizing the amount of currency determined by the Regional Census, assist in the hiring of labor that will then begin and finish the reconstruction of these areas to a state of viability for farming purposes.
(3A): “A state of Viability for Farming” is defined as a state in which an area can be used for residential and farming purposes for a period of two (2) years without major issues related to the construction of the building.

Results: Vote Passes, 88 to 40

Only Zelaya can talk to Columbia:
As Manuel once again reclined in his chair, he decided: It had been a good 3 months.
While it would, of course, take time to show true results, the council sent to scout out those damaged areas of agricultural production had been welcomed quite easily by the population, eager to assist themselves by assisting them.
In addition, the damages had been slightly less extreme then thought, the UASC workers from so long ago seemingly taking a bit of extra time (at some point) to assist areas not covered by the official plan.

As he almost began to doze off, the door to his office slammed open, and as he, bewildered, gazed at who came in, he was shocked at the panic on.... well, he didn’t know his name, but he did know he was a minor official.

With a tone only gained by panic or paranoia, the man asked a dreaded question:
“Sir, have we talked with the Golden Circle...... at all?”

As Manuel began to make the realization, he gave out an anguished answer:
“....No.”

The two men looked at each other, and began to panic in earnest.

And that was how Manuel had found himself writing the most awkward letter of his life, to be sent posthaste to the UASC
Dear Mr. President
As one of the first actions of the current Honduran Administration, we would like to, once again, reaffirm our commitment to the Golden Circle, and once again renew the promises of support to its actions within both Central and South America.
We, while, of course, skewing towards a different ideological viewpoint, do not want this to complicate the crucial actions taken by the Golden Circle in fighting the many issues still plaguing the world at large, and Central America in specific.
If at all possible, an extended discussion of this matter could assist greatly in reassuring members of both of our nations who may look at this change of system as a threat to overall action.

With hopes that this receives you well.
-President Manuel Zelaya

Party Retrospective:

Voz de la Revolución Libre, Issue 4
Notable Events for the Month:
The first meeting of the councils and parties that make up Libre since the victory of Libre(Antisoviet) within the election.
Likely to be a momentous occasion for the Party, notable topics of discussion will include:
An closer examination into the failure of the current Soviet Government to live up to the legacy of Lenin
An closer examination into the success of the current Soviet Government in living up to the legacy of Lenin
An debate between prominent figures (possibly including the President himself!) within the Party over the course that should be taken in light of the sudden success.
An examination on if current government Agricultural Policies are counter-revolutionary.

In other news, President and Chairman Manuel Zelaya has made a rebuttal to claims of him “Watering Down” the revolution, with an excerpt to be posted below.

“...To those figures within the party who have continued to claim that I have ‘Sold out’ or otherwise betrayed the party, I have one thing to say: We are not fools.”
“We, seemingly unlike those constantly braying for a suicidal charge into revolution, have realized the crucial mistake made by the revolutionaries of 1920: They forced the people into revolution, and when the people pushed back, they stomped their boots upon the skulls of those they claimed to represent.”
“We, who have seen the results of this so-called ‘Revolution’ must thus endeavor to, as true socialists, not repeat the same mistake.”

The Bukharinist wing of the party has been surprisingly quiet after the speech was given, although they may simply be conserving their wit for the more far-reaching council later this month.

The German Empire
Image

January 1st, 2020
10:00 Hours Local Time
Imperial Parliament, Berlin
Main Parliament Chamber

The annual State of the Empire meeting- otherwise informally known as the Annual New Years' Parliament Meeting- is one of the biggest and most covered series political speeches and legislation-writing in the German Empire. It was the meeting where the Kaiser would give a speech on the annual goals of the nation, the world situation around it, and the setting of the annual government budget. And that was to be today. Already, Members of Parliament were swarming into the Main Parliament Chamber- informally known as the Adress Room- in preparation for the big event, which would promptly start at 10:30 AM. According to security, the Kaiser was already en-route to the building. The media sat in their gallery, waiting. At exactly 10:25 AM, two armed military guards dressed in formal uniforms opened the doors to the chamber. Everyone in the building went quiet, stood, and turned to face the front of the room as a sign of respect and attention. The Kaiser, followed by the Grand Chancelor and four more guards, entered the room and took their respective seats at the front. Everyone took their seats and remained quiet, while the media began informing their viewers that the Kaiser and Grand Chancelor had entered the room and the State of the Empire meeting was underway. The Kaiser then rose from his seat and moved toward the central podium, pulling out a file with his speech on it, and read.

"Grand Chancelor, Members of the German Parliament, fellow citizens of Germany and the world- I am honored to stand before you today to address the state of the German Empire and the world, as we enter a new decade of this 21st century. This is a time of great progress and a time of reflection. A time to plan and prepare. A time to look toward the future with hope. A hope that we are progressing toward a brighter future. We have every reason to be optimistic about a brighter future. Our economy- while still recovering from our mistakes in the 1980s- is still nonetheless recovering and prospering. We are pursuing better diplomatic relations with our neighbors, the Entente, and will be attempting to ease tensions with the Comintern. We will push forward more toward cleaner energy- solar, wind, hydroelectric, and nuclear. Together, our future is bright! Together there will be peace! Together we shall prosper for eras to come!

But these grand goals for Germany and the world are not without obstacles, challenges, and hurdles. We have yet a long and difficult road ahead of us. We must keep ourselves from squabbling and tearing each other to shreds over the slightest bit of political discourse. Political barriers must be torn down. Peace must be negotiated between the warring parties in the Balkans and the UAE and other territories that are currently engulfed in conflict and strife. International tensions must ease. I have- however- full confidence that we shall prevail- that together, we shall overcome these hurdles, and ensure this bright future is for us and the world. The first step to do such is to maintain peace and security in Europe and the world. In order to do so, we must promote international cooperation instead of conflict. We must expand the Entente and strengthen it. We will prevail. Democracy will prevail.

However, foreign policy is only one part of this plan. We must focus as much at home as we do abroad. For we should not forget, that any democratically-based system- whether it be a constitutional monarchy, republic, or direct democracy- is dependent on the people of the nation for which it rules, as what is a ruler but a glorified servant of the people? What is a leader but a shepherd of a nation? We must never forget Germany, as if we do not help ourselves, we cannot help our allies and neighbors. That is why I believe that we should focus on restructuring our economy and safeguarding it. We should further encourage global trade in order to keep our markets running along and to bolster our economy. But what use are goods and services if there is nothing to support it? Infrastructure and energy production are as vital to our economy as the goods and services that which we provide, for without them, workers cannot work, and goods will not move. But once more, we shall prevail- but only together.

I foresee a bright and grand future ahead of us, should we wish to put effort to reach out and snatch it. Should we wish to work for it- work for Germany, Europe, and the world. For our children. Our family. Our future. The grand pathway in front of us is not an easy one. It is quite difficult and may- in some aspects- seem impossible. But it is the impossible that is worth striving for and the impossible for which we can achieve together. For not but nearly fifty-one years ago, humanity first set foot on the moon. This was not a journey undertaken alone, but with international cooperation. And so I repeat once more- together we shall prevail. Do what is seemingly impossible. What is best for Germany and the world. Together, there is a bright future for us all! Thank you all for your time and I wish you all a good day."

He then promptly took his seat, applause rising from around him. The meeting would continue on for the next several hours, lasting until past dusk, discussing plans and legislative possibilities, and passing a few minor ones here and there. The New Year in Germany's political realm had officially begun. Despite these promises of peace, there were many within Germany- especially within the military's ranks- that were concerned that war was approaching and too little action was being done too late.

January 7th, 2020
21:30 Hours Local Time
Headquarters of the Imperial Military, Berlin
Situation Room Alpha, Level -3

The top six members of the Imperial German Armed Forces met with the Kaiser in a situation of utmost secrecy on the night of January 7th, 2020. Their purpose for the meeting was one of the silent preparation for war. A war which none wanted. A war which some saw as unavoidable. And so the meeting began. Discussing possible war plans. Nuclear strategy. Diplomatic alternatives. Justification of war. Intelligence gathering missions. Espionage. Chances of success. Contingency plans. Deception tactics. The meeting lasted well into the night. It was around three in the morning when they departed. Everyone was tired, but slept soundly, knowing they had a plan for war. Knowing that defeat was not certain. Knowing that through planning for war, there was a chance for peace.

PROPOSAL - Authorization of Nuclear Power Station Construction Contracts to Private Companies

DESCRIPTION - In order to accommodate for the increase of economic activities in Germany, more energy sources must be provided to support potential industry growth. As we are making the shift from coal and oil power toward more renewable sources, we should increase the amount of power stations in Germany. As government-issued contracts are already in place for solar, hydroelectric, and wind power from 2019, we should authorize contracts for the construction of newer nuclear power stations, including one in Northern Bavaria to replace the (infamous and now decommissioned) Danube Nuclear Power Station.

A total of two large power stations should suffice to accomplish this goal. We have estimated that this will cost us around 10 billion Imperial Marks- a hefty price, but potentially worth the return, as they will not only support our growing industry, but also allow us to export clean energy to our neighbors. This will also decrease our dependency on foreign oil- ensuring us safety from any spikes in oil price due to the ongoing wars in the Middle East. Of course, we will pay this out over the course of the construction, as not to deduct from other government projects. The power stations are as follows: 2 Power Station with a nameplate capacity of 3,775 MWe.

RESULTS OF VOTE -
For: 563
Opposed: 242

LEGISLATION PASSED Jan. 11, 2020.

PROPOSAL - Authorization of Government Financial Incentives to Promote Infrastructure Development

DESCRIPTION - In order to allow for industrial expansion, we must first expand our infrastructure, for as our Kaiser has pointed out, industry is useless without infrastructure to support it. Therefore, we must expand our infrastructure, in order to accommodate for this growth. What better of a way to do it than by handing out financial incentives of about one-hundred million Imperial Marks every other quarter to the top five companies making our infrastructure more reliable? This should- in theory- make our infrastructure more reliable and encourage competition in the markets, allowing for growth.

RESULTS OF VOTE -
For: 532
Opposed: 273

LEGISLATION VETOED Jan. 12, 2020. Under revision as of Jan. 14, 2020.

Canberra, Australia, Australasia
January1, 2020

Outside the skies grew darker by the second as the hum of bugs and birds slowly trickled off. The evening news would bring the seemingly calm and peaceful atmosphere in the city to a swift end for many for only moments prior, the King had been slain while attending a New Year Dinner in New Caledonia on the edges of the Kingdom. The death of the popular King would send grief rippling through the entire Australasian Kingdom and, indeed, the whole world. The hardest hit, however, would be the now King of Australiasia Alexander Hope along with his family.

Inside the homes of the average Australasian, the ABC news coverage, which had been running a story on a local man from Texas, QLD building his own airplane to fly the Bush with, suddenly cut to a series of pictures of the King with a piece of somber memorialist music playing in the background. After a few moments, the screen returned to the ABC studio with the presenter now dressed in all black attire. Clearing her throat, the ABC news presenter, Karen Harold, calmly read out "My fellow Australasians, a few moments ago our beloved King, His Royal Majesty King Victor, was pronounced dead from a hospital room in Nouméa. Canberra Palace has announced that His Royal Highness, Prince Alexander is safe and has assumed the powers of the Crown. More news to follow. May God bless Australasia."

Across the nation, people shed tears or stared at their screens in disbelief. Some of the those driving pulled over as the radio message was relayed around the nation. At the same time, security services rapidly moved to secure Parliament, Canberra Palace, Yarralumla, and various other government buildings and important areas across the nation. The airspace above Canberra was closed with F-42 fighters screaming overhead ready to enforce the closure. The call to Parliament from the Prime Minister to reconvene the next day has been sent out to all members. Meanwhile, the new King was being rushed via SUV from the friend's flat he had been at to Yarralumla House where he would meet the PM and Cabinet in order to tend to the affairs of state.

Canberra Palace, Canberra, Australia, Australasia

Alexander sat back in his chair in the bunker command center underneath the palace. Only an hour before, Alexander had been planning a trip to Sydney with his mates from university. Now, he sat without his father and the weight of the world on his shoulders. His whole life, he had been preparing for this moment. From birth he had been raised to rule Australasia, yet, he never had expected this day would come so soon.

The moments following the death of his father had been a blur. Alexander had been grabbed by the security team and physically carried to an armored SUV and rushed back to the Palace and immediately moved down to the command center in the bunker. His mother had been with his father along with two of Alexander's siblings but, thank God, they were reported to be unharmed. His remaining two siblings were both moved to the bunker as well but kept in the living quarters and out of the command center. Newly appointed Prime Minister, Andrew Hastie, had been waiting for Alexander in the bunker and offered his condolences before laying out the information that was available.

The Director-General of the Office of National Intelligence, Nick Warner, stood and walked to the screen saying "Sir, we have every reason to believe that those responsible are affiliated with a resurgent New Caledonian group Front de liberté de Nouvelle-Calédonie or New Caledonian Freedom Front. The assassin himself was captured by on-site security forces but is refusing to cooperate. Your mother and siblings are being escorted by the air force back here to the mainland and your other family members are likewise under close guard. The Governor-General of New Caledonia has issued a temporary martial law order in the region and is requesting that you grant him the necessary powers to extend it for longer than the 48 hours he can unilaterally declare for."

Sitting back in his chair, Alexander rubbed his temples before saying "Very well. Tell the Governor-General that he has the green light for whatever he needs. I also want ASIO to focus on this new group." Taking a sip of water he continued "and I want the military to move to alert status orange. Make it very clear to anyone who might use this tragedy to their advantage that we will not be messed with. Now, is there anything else?"

"Just a few messages that have come in so far for you sir, the most major ones so far is from her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II. I will have it sent to you to reply at your pleasure." The Foreign Minister, Winston Peters, said.

Alexander stood up saying "Thank you all. I will go take care of those messages and see to my family, please keep me informed of any updates."

Pulling Prime Minister Hastie to the side, Alexander said "Mr. Prime Minister, it goes without saying but I have always liked you and think you have done a great job so I intend to keep you in your position. You're one of the few men I have grown to trust."

"Thank you, sir, it means a lot and I promise to serve with honor." Hastie replied.

Messages

“My dear Alex, I am deeply saddened by the loss of your father. However, I know that it can't compare to what your feeling now, nor to your shock at the suddenness of the need to rule. However, I was in this situation before, so I can assure you that you will manage as I once have. You have Windsor blood flowing in your veins and, most importantly, God above guiding you my dear boy. Now, lead your people and nation with strength and know that the entire family and the Commonwealth are with you and your family in prayer and in our hearts.”
- Elizabeth II

NEWS BULLETIN

Following unconfirmed reports via social media that shots were fired at King Victor, the ABC reported thirty minutes following the first reports that the King has indeed been killed.

Crown Prince Alexander has assumed the powers of the Crown and it is expected that the Ascension Council will meet tomorrow morning to officially declare him as the new King of Australasia, however, this is a formality as the powers of the Crown transferred to him automatically by birthright. Following the Council declaration, the then King Alexander will receive an official motion of condolence from the Parliament before traveling to all the other states and territories of Australia and the archduchies of Australasia and component territories to do the same. He will then meet with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait leaders in Alice Springs where they will officially recognize him as King.

General Secretary Zyuganov announces hardline stance on graft in New Year's Address to the Politburo

Image

At the new year's address to the CPSU Politburo in the Palace of Soviets, General Secretary Zyuganov spoke in a no-nonsense tone about the need to tackle corruption and graft. Scandals involving highly placed leaders, along with day-to-day incidents of minor corruption and the sheer inefficiency or negligence by some local cadres have been harshly condemned by the General Secretary who said.

"Our Party also faces many challenges, and there are pressing problems within the Party that need to be resolved, especially deeply tragic problems such as corruption and bribe-taking that some party members and cadres have, regrettably, engaged in. The whole Party must be vigilant, and we must work with all Comrades in the Party to be resolute in ensuring that the Party supervises its own conduct, enforces discipline and effectively deals with the prominent issues of our time, earnestly improves the Party's work style and maintains close ties with the people. Our Party will then always be the firm leadership core for advancing the cause of Communism and building Market Economies for Social Benefit. The great strength of Communism comes from the people and masses. We deeply understand that the capability of any individual is limited, but as long as we unite as one, there is no difficulty that we cannot overcome. Individuals have limited time in work, but there is no limit in serving the people wholeheartedly."

"The style in which you work is no small matter, and if we don't redress unhealthy tendencies and allow them to develop, it will be like putting up a wall between our party and the people, and we will lose our roots, our lifeblood and our strength," he said as he addressed the party's top decision-making body, further emphasizing that officials must not be allowed to skirt orders from above or choose which to follow. The General Secretary continued to name a number of officers of General rank in the SRA who were recently arrested and tried because of corruption which included the buying and selling of offices and ranks.

"Soviet Union must strive for software self-sufficiency" says Ministry of National Development

Image

Share of Soviet software developers shot up as the People's Ministry of National Development calls on business to adopt more domestic software. "Experience has told us that core technologies cannot be obtained by asking, buying or begging. More than ever, the Soviet software industry must seize the initiative to innovate and develop." Said a ministry spokesperson. The sentiment echoes Moscow's drive for technological self-sufficiency as foreign software has been identified as a source of potential threats.

S hares of the public-private partnership firm Soviet National Software & Co gained 6.6 percent, while those of Oniks Technology and Polyar Information System surged 7.79 percent respectively. The latter stands as a partner in the development of Huawei Technologies Co’s Android competitor, HarmonyOS. According to the officials, more Soviet companies should open up opportunities for the adoption of local software to protect supply chain security. While Soviet software ranging from financial management to enterprise resource planning systems is becoming increasingly sophisticated, the country still relies very heavily on imported operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, as well as other foreign upstream systems. Soviet industrial research institutions, for instance, create many designs using Matlab, a programming and computing platform developed by Columbian company MathWorks.

According to Neil Kharbyshev, global partner and Greater Comintern superintendent at Paris-based consulting firm Giroux & Fontaine, to change the status quo, the USSR would need to implement favorable industry policies and fix the tech talent shortage, he said. The Soviet software industry is growing with semiconductor design, information technology services, industrial IoT solutions and cybersecurity services being the fastest growing segments, according to data released by the People's Ministry of Digital Affairs. To tackle bottlenecks in technological development the ministry is working on a policy plan to allow local governments to offer preferential policies, such as subsidies and grants, to so-called "little giants", promising start-ups and small businesses in strategically important sectors like robotics and semiconductors.

NKVD to deploy a second Border Protection Corps brigade to Turkestan

Image

"It is imperative to protect the Turkestani border and most importantly to uphold all our commitments to our Comintern allies." Said Premier Pavel Grudinin as preparations are underway for a second NKVD BPC Brigade to ship out to southeastern Turkestan and help guarding the border with Afghanistan and prevent cross-border movements of militants, terrorists and illicit goods. This deployment will increase the number of Soviet military and security personnel in the People's Federation of Turkestan to 24 500 as Tashkent watches the Columbian-led negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban intently.

"We must be prepared for a deterioration of the regional security environement." Says, Akhimbek Ologu, spokesman for the PFT Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Should it breakdown or offer unreasonable concessions to the Taliban, there will be an increased risk of illegal movement in the border. This could lead to Taliban affiliated elements mounting attacks against the people of Turkestan and the Soviet Union, as well as an increased northward flow of opioids should the afghan narcotics trade ramp up." The USSR and UASC have until now cooperated in combatting this trade, together the nations have spent more than $8 billion over 15 years on efforts to deprive the Taliban of their profits from Afghanistan's opium and heroin trade, from poppy eradication to airstrikes and raids on suspected labs.

Widespread destruction during the war, millions uprooted from their homes, foreign aid cuts, and losses of local spending are however fueling an economic and humanitarian crisis that is likely to leave many destitute Afghans dependent on the narcotics trade for survival. That dependence threatens to bring more instability as the Taliban, other armed groups, ethnic warlords, and corrupt public officials vie for drug profits and power.

"The Taliban have long counted on the Afghan opium trade as one of their main sources of income," says Cesar Gudes, the head of the Kabul office of the League of Nations Office of Drugs and Crime. "More production brings drugs with a cheaper and more attractive price, and therefore a wider accessibility."

Proposal - Instituting the Party Commissariat for Internal Supervision.

Description The practical working style of the ruling party is a matter of life and death for the CPSU, and thus resolutely punishing wrongdoing and effectively preventing corruption is a major political task that our Party must excel at. The honest political working performance of CPSU members in official public positions is an important guarantee for adhering to Marxism-Leninism-Bukharinism, Khrushchev Theory, Kaganovich Thought and the Inner Development Outlook, fully adhering to the CPSU's principles and policies. It is imperative that members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union embrace the lofty ideal of Communism and hold firm conviction in their belief, always maintaining their integrity in matters of official conduct and carry forward the CPSU's fine style of work while maintaining close ties with the masses that Communism serves.

In order to further promote the honest political duty performance of CPSU members we must tackle the problem of maleficence, corruption and graft in a comprehensive way, adopting both punitive and preventive measures focusing especially on prevention. A key factor in this will be strengthening internal supervision by instituting the Party Commissariat for Internal Supervision. This internal body will be tasked with enforcing internal rules and regulations as set by the CPSU Party Constitution and combatting malfeasance within the Party.

The Commissariat for Internal Supervision's Office of Inspection and Supervision will be divided into ten Supervision Divisions, four shall investigate cases at the vice-ministerial level and above while six investigate officials at the level of Oblast governors, vice-governors, chairs and vice-chairs of local OBKOM's, city and town mayors and deputies and rural Commune chairmen.

The Commissariat for Internal Supervision's Office of Discipline shall help educate Party members on their duties and rights, preserve party discipline, uphold party decisions, see that party members exercise their duties in accordance with the CPSU Party Constitution.

The Commissariat for Internal Supervision is an internal division within the CPSU and is thusly not a law enforcement agency, but it will be working closely with relevant law enforcement agencies to start formal investigations, make arrests or mete out punishments where that is required. When a Supervision Team gathers evidence of wrongdoing or corruption, the information is passed on to the Commissariat's Central Leading Group which will then call upon Law Enforcement personnel to be dispatched and aid in the investigation and, if needed, make formal arrests if the wrongdoing is so great that an official reprimand, loss of position or expulsion from the Party are insufficient punishment.

Results of Politburo Vote
For: 1115.
Against: 385.

Result: Passes.

Amid New Years Celebrations, Prime Minister Abe Announces New Infrastructure Project:

Tokyo, January 2nd - Earlier today Prime Minister Abe announced the beginning of a new infrastructure project in Karafuto Prefecture, aimed at improving local roads and bridges, as well as building new roadways to better connect the Prefecture. According to the Ministry of Finance, the project will cost $400 million and is expected to open up several thousand new jobs for locals. According to the Ministry, the government is mulling bringing in workers from Korea or Taiwan to assist in completing the project, as to "provide economic opportunities for all of the Sphere."

The move comes as the Imperial Diet mulls a similar bill that would improve infrastructure in Kyushu and southern Honshu, reported a move encouraged by the Imperial Army. Such an investment would allow IJA Type 90 Tanks to be freely deployed across the Empire, currently restrained due to weight limits of bridges.

Shock Across the World as Reports of Assassination of Australasian King:

Tokyo, January 2nd - According to reports from the Australasian government, King Victor II, who gained power in 1990, died yesterday in an assassination attempt. He has since been succeeded by his son, Crown Prince Alexander. In a statement to the Japanese Press, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Empire's condolences, expressing the necessity of "security against terrorism." According to local reports, the King was killed in New Caledonia, where the Governor-General of the province has since declared martial law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs however cautioned the Australasian government from using the attack to deprive local residents of their freedoms, warning against violent reprisals. "The people of New Caledonia have legitimate grievances against imperial Australasian rule. The innocent people of New Caledonia must not be punished or otherwise harmed for the actions of radicals. The Empire of Japan has long enjoyed good relations with the Polynesian peoples, so any attack on them will be seen as a dangerous step towards destabilizing peace across Asia. While our Empire cannot possibly condone such violence, Imperialists must release their illegitimate territorial holdings from oppression, and allow them self determination of their futures."

The Prime Minister echoed the sentiment, expressing condolences to Australasia, while sending well wishes to the new government. The Prime Minister called on the new King to pursue "peace and freedom across Asia," and to end "hostile practices against natives and other different but democratic countries."

Fishermen Call for Government Action Against EEZ Violations:

Tokyo, January 2nd - Amid territorial disputes with the illegitimate socialist Chinese regime on the mainland, Co-Prosperity Sphere fishermen have been calling on their respective governments to take action against the ongoing aggression. Especially around the Reorganized Republic of China, regime Chinese fishing boats have increasingly violated the EEZ (exclusive economic zone) surrounding Taiwan. But these incidents are not isolated. Across the Korean EEZ and even the Japanese EEZ Chinese fishing boats have been creeping ever closer, in flagrant violation of international law.

Even from the Philippines fishermen have noticed increasing aggressions, leading to calls from local fishermen for the alliance to take decisive action.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Empire of Japan, full EEZ enforcement could come in the next few days, via the deployment of IJN and allied ships to enforce the EEZ. The spokesperson for the Ministry called it "one of the critical commitments of the Sphere," vowing to seriously crack down on illegal fishing.

The Ministry said it hoped the announcement would deter further aggressions, but reiterated that the current policy had not changed. Military experts have noted that the Imperial Japanese Navy acts in a coast guard role, meaning that EEZ enforcement will not be carried out by purely civilian units, rather navy sailors with civilian law enforcement on board the ships. Recently, several legislators in the Imperial Diet have threatened to pass a new law authorizing the Imperial Navy to use force against violating vessels, but thus far no steps towards the legislative have progressed.

Chinese Fishermen Triggers Japan
ASIA-PACIFIC - The Japanese and their puppets have recently been triggered by the presence of Chinese fishermen in the EEZ surrounding the so-called "Reorganized Republic of China". This came amid territorial disputes between the Republic of China and the Co-Prosperity Sphere. Chinese fishing boats have even been seen "creeping ever closer" in both the Korean EEZ and the Japanese EEZ. The Japanese Ministry of Defense have made plans to deploy IJN ships for the purpose of enforcing the EEZ. This speaks volume of the Japanese flexing their weak muscles. They are so afraid of losing their influence and strength. President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) has described the tensions as "one hell of a circus".

King of Australasia Has Been Assassinated
AUSTRALASIA - Australasia has saddenly lost its monarch two days ago. King Victor II was assassinated at the beginning of this year while attending a dinner in New Caledonia. His son, Crown Prince Alexander, will succeed him as King of Australasia. President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) and his administration have expressed shock and sadness over the assassination. Meanwhile, Featherston has theorized that it was the Japanese government who assassinated the King, given that they are feigning sadness over the assassination and the fact that no one has been arrested yet.

President Thomas Featherston Demands An End to Japanese Imperialism
WASHINGTON D.C. - President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) has further increased his opposition to the political might of the Japanese Empire. This time, he has recently demanded an end to Japanese imperialism as he called for the liberation of both Korea and Taiwan. He described his stance as being a true continuation of the Pacific War. He doesn't recognize the Treaty of Bangkok, which was signed back in 1944. He wants that treaty to be nullified and the whole Asia-Pacific region to be liberated from Japanese influence. He is due to lay out plans for the eventual decolonization of the Co-Prosperity Sphere, while also increasing the defense of US-controlled territory in the Pacific Ocean.

President Lai Ching Te Wished Happy New Year Wishes To Chinese People and International Community:

Beijing- President Lai Ching Te congratulated the nation on the event of New Year. Speaking directly to the people live on all tv news channels. President wished people happiness, good luck, and lots of wealth and urged them to look forward to the new year with positive hopes and the dawn of a new era as we step into the second decade of the 21st century.

President Te said that China had come a long way and its people's unity was the key to the success of China. He told people that there's a lot China have to do in the coming decades.

President Te also sent his best wishes to the United States, Anglois Kingdom, Germany, Soviet Union, Australasia, India, Pakistan and their respective leaders. President Te called upon Western Nations and USSR to work together for the future of humanity and begin a process to reduce the existing tensions.

President Te has been described as ‘‘pro-western’’ by academics and scholars due to his policies and his non-aggressive foreign policy. President Te also affirmed his administration's goal to ensure the continued growth of China by all means.

Australasian King Assassinated President Te Sent His Condolences To Australasian Royal Family; Condemned The Extremist Groups Who Might have Been Responsible For Assassination:

Beijing- In a special press conference yesterday the sadness and grief on the face of the President were clear. President Te had been shaken to the core by the news of the assassination of the Australasian King according to the sources closer to President. Speaking to the press President said:

‘‘I'm appalled and shocked to hear that something like this could even happen. King Victor was a very intelligent, kind and great person. His services to his nation are unmatched and can never be forgotten. Late King Victor and I were very good friends. When I first visited Australasia he was very hospitable and very nice to me and he had invited me over to his palace for an informal lunch. So this has been a piece of very terrible news to me. I hope those who did this will soon be caught and I'm fully confident that Price Alexander is up to the task and will lead his nation like his great father.’’

The news has shaken people all over the world. According to the Australian Security Services, New Caledonian group Front de liberté de Nouvelle-Calédonie or New Caledonian Freedom Front has been responsible for this attack. The investigation in this matter is going on.

President Lai Lambasted Over The Japanese Claims Of Chinese Aggression and Illegitimate Government; Endorsed The Remarks Of American President:

Beijing- President Te today lashed out over the Japanese claims of the Chinese government is illegitimate. When a journalist asked the Chinese President about his thoughts on Japanese claims Chinese President didn't hold back and said:

‘‘The only government that is illegitimate is those sitting in the Tokyo in their lavish palaces built with Chinese blood and resources. It's no surprise that they are still irritated by their defeat in the Sino-Japanese War when our American allies rushed to our aid. Korean and Taiwanese governments funded by Tokyo are the ones illegitimate. The fascists who committed war crimes on our people and killed our children do not deserve a right to call another nation's government illegitimate. And like Mr President Featherston stated ‘‘We don't recognize the Treaty Of Bangkok and we want an end to Japanese Imperialism.’’

The remarks came as Japan claimed that Chinese fishermen have been violating Co-Prosperity Sphere EEZ. Although, there is no independent verification of the claim and according to academics it's a part of the Japanese broader strategy to make themselves look like defenders and the Chinese as aggressors.

Prime Minister Abe Fires Back Against Western Imperialist Accusations:

Tokyo, January 4th - Late yesterday the President of the UASC, Thomas Featherston, in a desperate and heinous attempt to cripple peace in Asia, accused the peaceful people of Japan of the terrible murder of King Victor of Australasia. The assassination has already been attributed by the Australasian government to independence movements on the island, amid international condemnation of the killing.

The statement, labeled by the Minister of Foreign Affairs as "delirious and inconsistent with reality," prompted the Prime Minister to make the following speech to the press.

"Just three days ago, the international community watched on television in shock and sadness the terrible assassination of King Victor the Second of Australasia. Within two days of his murder, the American President has already used the terrible event as part of his political agenda, aimed directly towards his imperialist goals across Asia. By making false and heinous statements, the American President, Thomas Featherston, is attempting to destabilize the region and promote war.

This is a time of grievance, not bigotry or furthering political agendas. By stirring anger with provocative and false statements, Featherston is endangering both Australasia and Japan.

The American President's remarks are a horrendous offense to the late King Victor II. King Victor was well respected by his people and well respected by the Japanese people, myself included. Australasia and Japan do not always agree on each political issue, but is that a reason to assassinate a great leader such as him? One that kept the peace and stability for two decades? No. That is what the Americans do. Their intelligence services murder leader after leader, doing whatever they please to further a president's aims.

So I must call on President Featherston to recant such baseless yet dangerous claims. And further I seek an apology for both the Japanese people and the people of Australasia. Until Featherston lays off the imperialist and warmongering rhetoric, Asia is in a dangerous situation...

I would like to extend my Empire's hand in assisting the Australasian investigation into the attack. Not only to disprove the deplorably incorrect accusations, but to foster cooperation and healing for Australasia.

Thank you."

PM Orders Military Alert After Claims by American President and Beijing Regime:

Tokyo, January 4th - In remarks to the American press, President Thomas Featherston laid out a dangerous and provocative vision for Asia, claiming to not recognize Treaty of Bangkok which ended the Second World War. He further laid out plans for the "decolonization" of the Greater East Co-Prosperity Sphere, making claims that the Pacific War never ended.

Such rhetoric, which is entirely inconsistent with the facts on the ground, led the Minister of Foreign Affairs to respond, "The Empire of Japan, the Reorganized Republic of China, and the Protected Republic of Korea are free and independent nations which rely on one another for security and economic prosperity. Such threats to 'decolonize' our peaceful nations is the Western Imperialist code word for genocide. Their aim is to rid the world of the Japanese race, rid the world of Asian freedom and democracy, and to rid the world of Asian culture. Look at the camps they put their own people into, their treatment of African Americans or their colonization of the Native American people, or of Guam, or of South America. The irony and contradiction of their regime would be ridiculous if people were not being oppressed. The UASC is in no position to lecture us about 'decolonization' when they are they do all of the colonizing and all of the oppressing."

The Prime Minister was quick to address the threatening portion of the President's remarks, calling on "cooler heads" in Congress to prevail. He warned that if the UASC ceased recognition of the Treaty of Bangkok, there would be significant consequences. In a order to the Ministry of Defense, PM Abe called on the Imperial Armed Forces to be on "heightened alert," ordering the Armed Forces to "defend the Sphere at all costs."

PM Abe blasted the American President for encouraging the "illegitimate regime survived in Beijing," warning that if any attack was launched against the Sphere, Japan would respond. In a statement, the PM's office said, "The Empire has been at peace for decades. Now the American and false Chinese regime are attempting to upend decades of peace for their imperialist objectives. If they do not stop their warmongering, the Empire will have no choice but to appeal to arms and crush every obstacle to peace in Asia."

Ministry of Defense Announces Military Drills, Muses Soviet Involvement:

Tokyo, January 4th - Amid tensions in Asia with both the illegitimate regime in Beijing, as well as the Empire of Columbia, the Japanese Ministry of Defense has announced drills to test Japanese readiness and to deter further threats. The drills are scheduled to take place next week, involving the Imperial Army, the Imperial Navy's Special Naval Landing Forces, the Imperial Strategic Forces, and the Imperial Air Force, in coordination with the militaries of several allies.

The Ministry of Defense said the drills would take place all across Japan, simulating defensive operations and counterstrikes. The Minister of Defense further issued a formal invitation to the Soviet Union to send a representative to observe the drills or even participate, saying that current threats to peace required cooperation between both nations.

Dear King Alexander I, my people have been deeply saddened by the murder of your father. Your father was a great leader. It is now depressing that he is forever gone. His assassins are nothing more than a bunch of cold-blooded terrorists who should be brought to justice. No one deserves to get away with his death. However, even if the assassination was carried out by Melanesian separatists, I am afraid that your father's assassins may have been assisted by the Japanese government. The Japanese are such a barbaric race who still maintain an oppressive empire in East Asia. They are still oppressing Koreans, Taiwanese Aborigines and other ethnicities within their borders. I wish for Korea and Taiwan to be liberated from Japanese rule. I do wish for you to not believe in what the Japanese have to say. They can't be trusted. Anyway, my government wishes to send condolences to your people. We also congratulate you on your ascension as the new King of Australasia. I wish you and your people well. Long live our countries.

Sincerely, President Thomas Featherston

Dear President Manuel Zelaya, I am delighted to hear that you wish to reaffirm your commitment to the Golden Circle and renew the promises of support to its actions within the Americas. Even if your government wishes to move towards a different ideological viewpoint, I will not have any issue with it. I am already busy fighting Japanese imperialism in Asia and focusing on socio-economic development back in my country. I do wish to support development in your country. An extended discussion of this matter would be highly appreciated by my government. We need to keep both the Americas and the entire Golden Circle alive and well. I hope to see you soon as my country will be heading towards this year's presidential election. I hope to get a second term in office.

Sincerely, President Thomas Featherston

Japan Gets Triggered By Featherston
JAPAN - It looks like the Japanese got triggered by what President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) said yesterday. This came after he accused the Japanese of being behind the assassination of King Victor II. Even if the Australasian authorities have attributed the assassination to a separatist organization called the New Caledonian Freedom Front (FLNC), Featherston remarks that the Japanese were actively supporting the group and therefore backed the assassination plot. This was made evident when the Japanese government called upon Australasia to let go of New Caledonia and other Polynesian islands. This call was bashed by Featherston as being anti-Western. He has more to say about the Japanese in today's press:

"The Japanese have somehow helped indigenous separatists murder a beloved leader. And now they are personally attacking me for my remarks. They are such a barbaric community who despises their neighbors and oppresses everyone else. I want to see Korea and Taiwan liberated from Japanese rule. They should have been liberated back in the Pacific War, but the Japanese were able to control them through the Treaty of Bangkok. Operation Downfall should have been a success, but the Japanese screwed it and now we are seeing them prosper. We should have learned from my grandfather, who was a brilliant President back in the late 1940s and the early 1950s. You know him as Luke Featherston, one of Columbia's greatest Presidents. I wish to preserve his legacy, especially his opposition to Japanese imperialism. The Japanese are still a threat to world peace. They are like Islamists. They helped spearhead a series of terrorist attacks across the West Coast in 1967, which led to the destruction of Columbian property. Property that weren't owned by the Japanese. Now they want me to apologize to both them and Australasia. But guess what? I'll rather apologize to Australasia than to Japan. We can't trust the Japanese. They are more imperialistic than us Westerners. Taiwan is rightfully part of China, while Korea should gain more independence than it has right now. I am not a warmongerer, but a true patriot. It is the Japanese who are the warmongerers in this situation. The Treaty of Bangkok is a literal crime against humanity. It should have never happened."

It is uncertain how this situation would end, but the Japanese Empire will fall soon.

President Featherston Orders Military Drills Following Japanese Remarks
GUAM - After Japan made awful remarks about the UASC and ordered military drills, President Thomas Featherston has ordered similar drills to take place around the Marianas. This is done for the purpose of defending US territory from Japanese aggression. The Columbian Navy and the Columbian Marine Corps will participate in the drills.

As Manuel paced across his office, glaring towards the door periodically, he finally breathed a (silent) sigh of relief when his secretary brought in the newspaper, thanking her and sitting down to read through the reception of FR3C, although he was vexed to find that it wasn’t included on the main page, taking a second look at the paper, and reading the head-
Oh.
Oh dear.
La Gazetta
Assassination Of Australasian King!
United States President Blames Japan-Funded Organization!

Recent Government Farm-Repair Plan Well-Liked among Rural Families

....It was going to be a tough few days, and as Manuel went to get himself another cup of coffee, he began planning what to do next.

Condolences and Communication:

Manuel was, in all truths, ready to be done with this matter.
It had been 2 sleepless nights of determining what to do in the wake of both the death and (more importantly) rhetoric from Washington.

While he was very, very glad to not have the axe of Columbia hanging over their head in regards to ideology, he wasn’t incredibly exuberant over the.... overtly aggressive reaction to the assassination.
While he held no love for Japan or their imperialism, they did, sadly, possess a surprising amount of force in regards to economic matters, and he had been considering an attempt to create a branch or clone of a company from the region (potentially that one up-and coming company....Sony?, he had heard they were doing surprisingly well for their troubles in accessing the American Market).
He supposed he had to bite the bullet at some point, and as such, he began writing his letter to Australasia.
To: United Kingdom of Australasia
I have written this to offer my deepest condolences for the loss of your father.
As an individual who has experienced a similar loss in the past, I know how brutal it can be in the days directly after a loved ones death.
I hope that your rule after this period is one of joy, and that your nation continues to prosper.
From: President Manuel Zelaya

As Manuel surveyed his letter, he decided that it was a bit short, but it would do.

Crushing Corruption

With Columbia supportive and the matter of Australasia addressed to the best of his ability, it was time to return to domestics.

It would have to be put off due to the government being quite involved with the agricultural issue, but drafting a bit of Anti-Corruption legislature and getting it passed would get even more public support, crucial for the upcoming party conference.

As he began preparing to take a small nap (it had been too busy, today), he sent his secretary to tell the President of Legislature to get it ready.

Proposed Anti-Corruption Legislature:
Plan for the Examination of Individuals Potentially Exploiting Government Positions

Proposed Actions:
1. Establishment of a council formed from trustworthy members of all parties to examine the current continuing issues of corruption in roles or positions.
1a. Corruption is defined as:
Exploitation of government roles to:
Assist family members in gaining government positions for personal benefit.
Utilizing money allotted towards governmental actions to enrich one’s self, family, or related business.
Accepting currency of any kind from an organization or individual in exchange for actions taken within the governmental framework.

2. Granting the council formed by members of all 3 parties the ability to remove or reassign (with permission of the president) individuals who have been found guilty of corruption or corrupt actions in a court.

Vote Fails. 68 to 60.
Currently undergoing rewriting to coincide with desire for more exact definition of corruption.

Admiral of Soviet Pacific Fleet Confirms Soviet participation in Japanese drills

Image

Fleet Admiral Sergei Avakyants confirmed Soviet willingness to participate in the military exercises to be held by Japan and the nations of the Co-Prosperity Sphere with four Red Army Navy ships set to participate in the naval portion of the exercise. These include the destroyer SVK Burnyi, frigates SVK Koryeyets and Peresvet and perhaps most importantly the hospital ship SKV Spasatiel. The Spasatiel is a purpose-built hospital ship of the Project 192.0 Class and is the only ship of it's type although the Red Army Navy keeps has other, older hospital ships constructed in the 1990's in service. The ship was built in Communards Shipyard in Mykolaiv and commissioned in December 2008.

Spasatiel is a large ship displacing at 10,000 tons fully loaded. Based with the Pacific Fleet at Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy, Kamchatka Oblast. While not underway, the ship normally has a crew of 113 and a medical complement of 20; on deployment those number increase to roughly 328 crew and 100 medical personnel with the medical complement being task-organized given the nature of the situation (disaster, wartime, training, etc.) Captain Aliaksandr Klimchuk described the mission of his ship. “The Spasatiel is designed to rescue and treat the wounded and sick at sea during wartime and she conducts medical services during peacetime, as well as humanitarian assistance operations. She also acts as a platform for medical staff to conduct research and training.”

Whereas the UASC throws belligerent rhetoric around in a volatile region and threatens shows of force with military maneuvers and exercises in the Pacific, Soviet participation in the drills hosted by the Co-Prosperity Sphere, headed by our purpose-built hospital ship clearly demonstrates the Soviet Union's commitment to peace and solidarity between nations with opposite ideals.

The Spasatiel's presence shows that the Red Army Navy remains committed not just to protect its own sailors in naval combat but also saves the lives of those in need, regardless of nationality. The Spasatiel has carried out seven missions aimed at bringing much-needed medical care to people from all around the world free of charge such as in Socotra in 2017 where the arrival of the Spasatiel brought supplies along with ultrasound, ECG, X-ray, CT scanning machines and other medical equipment and staff members worked tirelessly set up a variety of clinics covering general practice, pediatrics, gynecology as well as other fields.

Kaiser Meets With Alexander I of Australasia After Previous King's Assassination

BERLIN, January 6 - Kaiser Georg met earlier today with Alexander I of Australasia at Hohenzollern Castle, to discuss various political and personal matters in a closed-doors meeting. While palace officials have not released any major details of the meeting, it was noted that defense was a primary political topic and that personal matters were discussed frequently. Officials within the Imperial German Army have confirmed that the topic of possible overseas military drills in Australasia was brought up during the brief meeting between the two government leaders. Not discussed, however, were the rising tensions in the Pacific, primarily between Japan and the UASC, which Australasia is getting caught within the crossfire. Time will tell what will happen next in the Pacific Ocean.

Kaiser to Meet With Heads of State of the UASC, Japan to Discuss Pacific Tensions

BERLIN, January 7 - Just twenty-four hours after meeting with Alexander I of Australasia, the Kaiser has made arrangements to meet with the Prime Minister of Japan and the Vice-President of Columbia to ease tensions in the Pacific. This meeting is scheduled to occur at 1:30 PM today. It will not be publicly broadcast, but Hohenzollern Castle has informed us that they will keep us updated on what happens within. The fate of the Pacific may depend on a successful meeting as tensions run high. We at the Berlin Weekly Times shall keep you informed as events progress.

UPDATE: Negotiations have proven to be a success, with both the UASC and Japan agreeing to help de-escalate the situation in the Pacific. An investigation- led by the Entente and Germany- is to be launched, targeting the supposed "incursions" made by Chinese fishermen into the EEZ of some the member nations of the Greater East-Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. The Kaiser also entered a diplomatic phone call with Alexander I to discuss an investigation into the possibility of foreign involvement in the death of Victor II- the beloved former King of Australasia. Alexander agreed, but on the condition of the investigation being led by Australasia with German- and Entente- backing. We will continue to update you as we uncover more about the ongoing situation in the Pacific.

Defense Ministry Slams UASC Drills:

Tokyo, January 6th - According to reports from the imperialist Columbian government, the Columbian military is set to begin a series of naval drills around the occupied Mariana Islands in response to the defensive Japanese drills announced not long ago. Minister of Defense Field Marshal Yamazaki slammed the Columbian drills as provocative, being "in direct proximity to Iwo Jima and Ogasawara Islands." He panned the drills as being offensive in nature, pledging that the Imperial Japanese Navy would keep a close eye on Columbian activities.

Yamazaki warned that further Columbian aggression would meet a "humbling response," vowing to do everything in his power to defend the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.

Commenting on the UASC and Beijing regime's public rejection of the Treaty of Bangkok, Yamazaki decried the imperialists, daring them to make it official. "If the UASC and Beijing regime decide to resume the war, our response will be crushing. The Beijing regime must carefully decide its position, lest they forget the very many missiles we have ready to go at a moment's notice."

However Yamazaki praised the announcement of Soviet involvement in the upcoming Japanese defense drills, scheduled to begin on the 11th. "I am very glad to be working together with our Soviet neighbors to confront aggression and to promote world peace. Unlike the aggressor's drills, a critical part of ours will include medical training and disaster relief simulations, which is a skill both the Soviets and our side can use to help other counties, not harm them. By increasing cooperation with the Soviet Union, we stand firmly in support of a peaceful resolution to all conflicts, and deter further violations of it."

PM Abe Responds to Columbian President's Comments:

Tokyo, January 6th - In response to comments made to the Columbian press by President Featherston, PM Abe has responded, saying that Featherston has gone "too far." In his remarks, Featherston labeled our most glorious Empire as being a "barbaric community," likening the Japanese race as Islamist and calling the Treaty of Bangkok a "crime against humanity." Addressing the press today, the Prime Minister fired back.

"President Featherston is a gross example of the western imperialist, bent on destroying peace across the world. But he has crossed the line. In his child-like pettiness, President Featherston has seriously endangered both his own people as well as people across the world by encouraging and provoking conflict. I do not know why he has not yet been impeached. Only due to the keen logic and patience of His Holiness the Emperor, as well as that of leaders across the world, has peace prevailed.

President Featherston's racism against the Asian race is like no other. When I read his comments, I thought I was reading a historical text from the 1860s. It is laughable his ignorance and bigotry. But there was one thing I agreed with in his speech. He likened us to Islamists. And by that he likened us to Koreans, Chinese, Middle Easterners, South Americans, and Africans. We are something foreign. We are not worthy of respect, meant to be swept under the imperialist's rug.

That is his aim. Featherston represents all the evil forces of the Imperialists, trying to force us to fight against one another to achieve his imperial agenda...

And as a united community, we must reject this effort wholeheartedly. For Featherston may be trying to divide Asians against Asians, everyone against everyone, but let us use this to unite as an indestructible front for peace. African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, the oppressed peoples of Columbia and the world - join us against the aggressor. If Featherston continues to reject peace, then our overwhelming response will let our voices be known. Thank you."

NPA Director General Authorizes Coastal Bureau to Deploy to Taiwan Strait:

Tokyo, January 7th - As Beijing regime fishing vessels continue to relentlessly violate the EEZ of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, the Director-General of the Imperial National Police Agency has authorized the Coastal Bureau to deploy vessels to protect the Reorganized Republic of China's EEZ. The deployment reportedly includes a dozen cutters, including the Shunkō class, Shikishima class, Miyako [/i ]class, and [i]Shiretoko class ships. The deployment will also include several smaller vessels.

The move comes after the Imperial Navy has begun planning a deployment to secure the EEZ, which may begin in a few weeks. Prime Minister Abe said that he was prepared to deploy Imperial Navy assets as soon as this week if "the aggressor continued to violate the Sphere's EEZ. This comes as the Entente alliance has agreed to conduct an investigation into the illegal aggressions carried out by the illegitimate regime that continues to survive in Beijing.

Director-General Okushima announced earlier that the Imperial Coastal Bureau had "successfully thwarted dozens of EEZ violations" carried out by the Beijing regime in the just today as Coastal Bureau vessels began to conduct their patrols in the region.

PM Hails Peace Talks Led by Germany:

Tokyo, January 8th - As Prime Minister Abe returned from his trip to Germany to conduct high level negotiations with the UASC, he hailed the peace talks as being "very successful," thanking the German Kaiser for his efforts. The PM noted that the results of the talks would play out in time, clarifying that there was nothing signed on paper. He said he was very hopeful this could relieve most of the tensions, and open up a path to "unprecedented peace in Asia."

The Prime Minister encouraged the Columbian government to quickly implement the agreement, while still calling on Japan to remain vigilant against aggression.

Columbians React To Japanese-Columbian Talks
UASC - Columbian citizens have reacted to the recent talks that took place between the UASC and Japan in Germany. The talks were held as Kaiser Georg Frederich wished to put a stop to rising tensions between the UASC and Japan. Tensions increased this year when President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) accused the Japanese of being involved in the tragic murder of King Victor II of Australasia. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe blasted back at Featherston's accusation and condemned him for his racist rhetoric. Featherston would then respond by calling for the "total liberation" of Korea and Taiwan from Japanese rule, comparing the Japanese to radical Muslims, ordering military drills near Japanese territory, referring to the 1967 West Coast Riots as "terrorist attacks" and giving a literal shoutout to his grandfather, Governor-turned-President Luke Featherston (D-AS). Luke, as you may know, was very infamous for his anti-Japanese policies, in which he had Japanese-American families placed in ghettos across the West Coast and denied them access to both welfare programs and job opportunities. These policies were literally referred to as the "Japanese-American Deprivation Act of 1945" (or JADA for short), which do sound like a serious human rights violation. Once Luke was no longer President by 1953, his policies would remain active both across the West Coast and in the states of Hawaii and Absaroka. It wasn't until the end of the 1967 West Coast Riots and the formation of the Kerner Commission that President Lyndon B. Johnson (D-TX) and his government would put a stop to anti-Japanese sentiment by repealing JADA and dismantling all Japanese-American ghettos across the West Coast. That would lead to longstanding peace between the UASC and Japan, only for Thomas Featherston to destroy that peace once he became President in 2017.

There were many reactions to the recent Japanese-Columbian talks here in the UASC. Most Columbians, especially Democrats such as Barack Obama (D-IL), Joe Biden (D-DE), Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Mike Honda (D-CA), strongly supported the talks and opposed further tensions. The talks also received praise from the Japanese-American community, who had to deal with the Featherstons' racist rhetoric since 1945. Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN), who represented the UASC in the talks, was unusually praised for his efforts to decrease tensions and contribute to regional stability. However, supporters of Thomas Featherston despised the talks and denounced Pence for his "willingness to compromise with barbaric nations".

It is unknown if President Featherston will ever apologize to the Japanese for his remarks.

German and Japanese Embassies Targeted By Featherston Supporters
WASHINGTON D.C. - Due to recent talks between the UASC and Japan in Germany, supporters of President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) started holding protests outside both the German and Japanese embassies in Washington. Many supporters can be seen waving UASC flags and shouting aggressively at the embassies. The supporters also burned German and Japanese flags. They demanded that the recent talks should be "nullified". Law enforcement had showed up to maintain peace and order during the protests. Democrats have called upon President Featherston to disperse his supporters, but he haven't responded yet.

Columbian Military Drills To Be Moved To Hawaii
HAWAII - Due to recent talks between the UASC and Japan in Germany, both the Columbian Navy and the Columbian Marine Corps will be holding drills around Hawaii instead of around the Mariana Islands, mainly due to the latter being in close proximity to Japanese territory.

The German Empire

January 8th, 2020
12:00 Hours Local Time
Hohenzollern Castle, Baden-Württemberg

The Kaiser- Georg Friedrich- sat at his desk, clearing out old papers and pondering how to fix the age-old dilemma of warming up cold international relations. This was going to be especially difficult, as there was still plenty of tension between the nations in question- that being the USSR and Poland. He pulled up a stack of papers from a drawer and began sifting through them, thinking all the while, setting aside what was still relevant or useful, and shredding what was not. Relieving the tensions between the nations- he thought- would definitely open up trade corridors, allowing him to help improve the German economy. The question was how should it happen? It was at this point that Kaiser Georg had picked through half the pile. In his hands was a copy of an invitation to last year's Imperial New Year's Ball. He was about to shred the paper when he stopped and thought for a moment. A ball and a diplomatic summit. Perhaps a military parade too. That was something that could work. He put down the paper, onto the pile on his desk- stood up, began to pace, and continued to ponder the idea. The event would have to be planned to every detail, in order to prevent diplomatic action from faltering and to prevent espionage from the less trustworthy attendees.

After about five minutes, he had a plan formulated. Germany would formally announce the diplomatic event- which the Kaiser called "The Grand Summit of 2020 "- about a month and a half ahead of time, inviting major powers from abroad (consisting of the members of the Entente, Columbia, Poland, the USSR, Australasia, and Japan). This invitation would not mean that only the nations invited could attend, it just meant they had a reserved slot- should they wish to attend. Each attending nation could send up to two units of no more than 25 people each to participate in the parade. The diplomats would attend the parade in Berlin on day one, before they would board a train for Hohenzollern Castle the next day, where the ball and summit would take place. They could then stay as long as they needed to privately discuss matters with various German officials.

Satisfied, the Kaiser began to send word to his foreign ministry, who would then contact the international community. The event was then set to begin on March the 30th. And as such, the invitations were already making their way to the respective invited nations, in order to give them sufficient time to consider their attendance before the event was formally announced. With this completed, Kaiser Georg began to turn his attention back to the task at hand- clearing out his desk of old papers.

Chancellor, Kaiser Express Dismay Over Targeting of Embassies

BERLIN, January 9 - Just days after successful negotiations between the UASC and Japan, Featherston’s supporters have begun to target German embassies and embassies of Japan, following rash comments from the Columbian President regarding the talks. The Chancellor, Kaiser, and Imperial Parliament have condemned this targeting of diplomatic sites, while commending the actions of the Columbian police forces in protecting the embassies. Featherston’s refusal to call off his supporters has also led to outcries from high-up political figures, with a few unnamed MPs even calling for the Columbian Congress to investigate Featherston’s conduct as President of Columbia. While both the Kaiser and Chancellor have remarked that this is unnecessary, they have agreed that his behavior is unprofessional. Time will only tell what the future of these foreign relations are to become.

Manuel had been thinking, in the wake of the crisis (situation? scare?) in Australasia.
With things beginning to calm down, he had taken time to reflect on the role of Honduras in the world.
When one looked at the world as it was, it was clear that there was a divide between those that were already/were becoming powers, and those that never were/were declining.
From Orkney to Aquitaine, Alaska to Maine, Kamkatcha to Karelia, Harbin to Xinjiang, those that were or, at least, had the right to be called, powers had always had land, and the resources that came with it.

Meanwhile, when one looked at, say, Japan or, of course, Honduras, there was not this breadth of land, and there was not a bevy of resources large enough to make one an economic powerhouse.

While there were, of course, mines and fish and so many other potential resources, Honduras had been forced, first by the force of the companies and then by the need to continue subsisting, to put all of their eggs in the metaphorical basket of agriculture.
And this economy, while not able to stand up to the giants of the world, had, indeed, served its purpose of allowing the Honduran people to subsist, to continue, to survive, sometimes even allowing for the ever sought-after acquiring of a dragon’s stockpile of wealth.
But the times were, as they say, a-changin.

In this modern period and, more crucially, modern economy, the world was going digital.
In the streets of Columbia, both the young and old walked about with the latest in cell phone technology.
In the USSR, cameras and computers kept the Iron Curtain between the populace and the elites as secure as ever.
In Japan, Tech Corporations fought amongst each other to continue growing, while some left the islands to find their place in the international market.

Honduras, meanwhile, despite the efforts of some former governments, had been unable to even dip its pinky into the metaphorical waters of this new world, a lack of infrastructure and inability to rebel against the corporate interests of the farm companies keeping it, despite the importing of technology, unable to begin innovations of their own.

As he poured himself a drink and prepared to call the PoL, he concluded his thoughts.
.....even if he could not change the land or resource Honduras possessed, he could change the utilization of it.

The First Step is Support
If Honduras wanted to have any true chance of empowering itself, it needed support.
With the confirmed desire of America to keep them in the sphere, and the desire for a meeting or, at least, a discussion over that was expressed in the last letter, the best bet for economic support at this crucial juncture would be Columbia.
And so, he began to write another, potentially more important, letter.
Dear Mr President
Having received your letter and having read through it, it is wonderful to know your desired continuation of work with Honduras.
To get to the point of this letter, your desire for an extended discussion on the topic is shared by me, and, if possible, it would be wonderful to arrange a meeting either in-person or over a call.
I hope this letter receives you well.
-President Manuel Zelaya

The Second is Policy
Proposed Legislation: The Infrastructure Act of 2020
1. The creation of a fund for the repair and construction of roads connecting major industrial locations in Honduras and major mining locations in Honduras.
2. The usage of this fund to hire companies willing to construct these roads at a fee to be agreed upon later.
3. The usage of what portions of this fund remain after its key purpose is complete to repair roads in civilian and rural areas.

Not currently up for vote, being slated after the Reworked Corruption Act
Potential Legislation: The Construction of Cities and Communities Suited for Technological Development and Improved Resource Utilization (C3STSIRU)
Part 1: Organazation
1. Organizes a fund dedicated to the construction of Five (5) cities near crucial mining sites.
1a. This fund shall be organized by a council hand-picked by the president, to ensure all resources are used in the best possible manner.

2. These cities shall be dedicated to the advancement of science in Honduras, being run directly by a government-appointed council of members of the Honduran Institute of Science and Technology.

3. The cities themselves shall be designed in an architectural style combining modernism and traditional Spanish construction methods.

Part 2: City Designation
1. Three (3) Cities shall be organized around development of new computer and information technologies, with specific interest in the creation of a Honduran tech company able to innovate on the global stage.

2. One (1) City shall be dedicated to innovation in the agricultural field, and potential application of new advancements in the chemical field to bolster the amount of food produced by Honduras.

3. One (1) City shall be dedicated to attracting foreign companies (Example: Sony) to build branches of their business within Honduras, to better bolster the economy in preparation for the future.

Not currently up for vote, not currently slated.
Controversy expected when it finally reaches Legislative Council, potential solutions being looked into.

The Third is Loyalty
La Tribuna, Issue 5.
BUKHARINISTS EXPELLED FROM LIBRE

In a colossal upset to expected policy of this month, President and Chairman of Libre Manuel Zelaya has announced the official expulsion of 200 notable Bukharinists from the party.
When asked to provide explanation, Zelaya refused.

President Zelaya's Party Expels 200 Bukharinists
HONDURAS - Liberty and Refoundation (Libre), the ruling party of Honuras, has recently announced the official expulsion of 200 notable members who are suspected of being Bukharinists. Bukharinism is the dominant state ideology of the USSR and a popular variant of Marxism-Leninism. The reason for the expulsion is currently unknown as President Manuel Zelaya (Libre) has yet to explain the situation. President Thomas Featherston (R-AS), on the other hand, praised the announcement.

President Gandhi Survives Assassination Attempt
INDIA - President Sonia Gandhi (BSP) was nearly assassinated yesterday when 22 assassins opened gunfire on her as she and her detail left the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The Indian Army eventually showed up to protect Gandhi and managed to kill 19 assassins, leaving the other three on the run. Unfortunaly, eight members of the Indian Presidential Protection Agency (IPPA) were killed while protecting Gandhi. Since then, martial law was declared in New Delhi and Gandhi was unable to join the upcoming Grand Summit of 2020. Gandhi and her detail would have been dead if 20 brave soldiers from the Indian Army didn't show up. Thomas Featherston (R-AS), the President of the UASC, and Kenneth Ian Juster, the current Columbian Ambassador to India, condemned the assassination attempt, while Featherston has additionally wished death upon the remaining three assassins that are still on the run.

A Grand Summit in Germany?
GERMANY - The Grand Summit of 2020 is to be held in Berlin, Germany. President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) has expressed interest in joining it, but due to recent tensions between the UASC and Japan, he may not be able to join it. Potential substitutes for him in the summit include Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN), State Secretary Mike Pompeo (R-KS) and Ambassador Richard Allen Grenell.

President Featherston Fires Back at Criticism Regarding His "Racist Comments"
UASC - President Thomas Featherston (R-AS) has recently fired back at people who criticized his "racist comments" amid rising tensions between the UASC and Japan. Such criticism came mostly from President Sonia Gandhi of India, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, Democrats (D) and Progressives (P). Mr. President has claimed that his comments were not racist, but rather intellectual. He also said that further criticism would be considered to be slander. On the other hand, presidential election will be taking place this year and Mr. President has made it clear that he will run for President again.

UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC - JANUARY 11TH 2020
Image
Unity, Freedom, Socialism.

Accosted from all sides, the government of Saddam Hussein was threatened in 2014 and the man himself eventually killed in what looked like the final days of the United Arab Republic in 2015. General Ruwaid Aflaq el-Shaban was the most powerful general of the United Arab Army left to pick up the pieces, and although he could stop the wave of revolts that rolled across the country even after he stabilized the situation in Baghdad. Today General El-Shaban finds his country pushed up into a corner of Iraq, but perhaps in the best war-winning position it has been in a long time. The people and power of Iraq's rivers remain for the most part under the General's control. The still well-equipped Ba'athist army is in a good position compared to the Shia army in the south who controls mostly desert towns and the Islamists to the west who are surrounded by enemies. The Kurds are currently the greatest threat to the General with their soviet supplied arms and training able to cause serious issues in the north of Iraq to his army which still suffers from some of the same coordination and morale flaws typical of Arab armies, although they are not as bad as six years ago at the start of the war.

In late 2019 the General's northern army successfully dealt the Islamists a defeat near Mosul, a city still on the front lines of the war. Islamist troops were thrown back from the city, and a Ba'athist counter attack was able to smash many of their best men who had been dedicated to the siege. Upon victory El-Shaban immediately went after the Kurds who he hoped to prevent from launching a future offensive into his territory. There is only so much a chiefly militia army can do against a (relatively) professional force with a lot of artillery and complete disregard for civilian casualties. The shelling in the late of 2019 in the Kurdish areas was some of the most brutal acts committed during the war but it accomplished its objective in convincing the Kurds to avoid offensive warfare.

The Shias in the south, however, were a different question. While they were by far the worst equipped faction of the civil war they controlled valuable oil that El-Shaban's government was in desperate need of to pay for more weapons and more men. This was what drove the General to approach them with an offer of alliance against the Islamists. The General cast himself as a defender of religious plurality and although the Shias are no fan of Ba'athist secularism they understand that El-Shaban is not obligated to help them if the Islamists have similar ideas of securing their oil. In fact, the Ba'athists would probably join in the conquest of their territory. This is why they accepted the offer of an alliance against the terrorist violence afflicting the center of the country and have agreed to assist the Ba'athists in driving out a mutual enemy. The "January Offensive" occurred simultaneously with a foreign campaign by the Ba'athist government announcing that the Shia rebel areas had agreed to re-integration with the central government (an essentially true) statement and requests for foreign weapons delivered to both the USSR and China, with obviously neither being made public.

To China, the General would write about the benefits of post-war "economic integration" and the favorable "strategic partnership" the UAR and China enjoyed in the past and he hoped would continue to enjoy. To the Soviet Union, the General would write about the socialist economic system and the communist links of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party's founders and ideologists. A word about Kurdish autonomy and "general Arab international neutrality" would not hurt either for convincing the Soviets that the Ba'athist government was worth supporting.
“It is difficult for me to imagine what “personal liberty” is enjoyed by an unemployed hungry person. True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and oppression of one person by another; where there is not unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Only in such a society personal and any other freedom can exist for real and not on paper.” -J. V. STALIN

And so the world turns, days pass, March is upon us

Busy start of the year in Honduran Parlaiment
Image
The small GC-member embarks on wide-ranging reforms.

President Manuel Zelaya came out victorious with his Libre Party in the most recent Honduran election, quickly establishing a new administration. The success of Libre came somewhat as a surprise in light of the deep factionalist schism which had been developing under the recent decade between the Bukharinist wing and the Zelayans, struggling to define the identity and politics of the party moving forward. Libres success proves that the other national parties of Honduras had even greater issues mobilizing enough support to prove a credible challenge to Libre.

The Zelaya administration has been moving quickly since the election victory, announcing a number of wide-ranging internal reforms and well as passing a budgetary package serving to help reconstruct rural communities struck by Hurricane Mitchell. This only worsened the situation in rural Honduras which stands as the poorest country in the Golden Circle by a significant margin and is deeply dependent on primary sector exports to fuel it's economy, most importantly including minerals, coffee, tropical fruits, and sugar cane, as well as a growing textiles industry, most of which is owned by Columbian multinationals. Alongside the plans for rural reconstruction comes a large investment, package for the Honduran road network and most impressively, a project aiming at revitalizing five major urban centers and turning them into centers of technological development. While many economic analysts find the initiatives commendable, many doubt Honduras' capability of funding such an ambitious project without generating a significant sum of foreign investment and probably asking the UASC for a line of credit. Something the great power might be reluctant to do since the anti-corruption act was shot down in the Honduran parlaiment.

German Kaiser announces ambitious policy goals moving forward
Image
The Reichstag will soon convene on the formulation of
new political action plans.

At the yearly State of the Empire Address in the Reichstag in Berlin, German Kaiser Gerog Friedrich announced an ambitious set of goals for the following decade. Even before assuming his place on the German throne, the then Prince was famous for his commitment to green energy technologies, having donated money to a number of promising independent research projects as well as appearing at fund-raising galas in Anglois, Columbia, Nordbight and Sweden alike, makes his announcement on investment into Germany's Green Energy sectors less than surprising. Still, Green party representatives in the Reichstag are expected to lobby against the extension of nuclear power, still, they are as things stands unlikely to gain enough sway to stop planned expansions.

Other than energy policy, the Kaiser also discussed economic reform, however with little detail as of yet, as well a voicing a diplomatic commitment to resolve the conflict in the Balkans and work toward détente with the Comintern. While the goal of peace in Europe was welcome by large segments of the German population, especially among the youth, it may alienate the Prussian Right and Oster exile community. The people in the Königsberg exclave and those who left or were expelled from the former German territories taken by Poland during the Second Great War, form a deeply influential voting block on the German right and have a strong connection to the officer-corps of the German army, many of whom descend from old Prussian junker-families.

Globo reporters in Germany are monitoring government talks, expect new articles regarding Germany's economic reforms when those are formalized in the Reichstag.

Half a million people in Africa suffer damage to their homes and properties in wake of storms.
Image
People fleeing their flooded homes in
Mozambique in the wake of the storms.

A severe thunderstorm moved across southern Mozambique and then moved further inland across Bantuland, bringing with it great amounts of rain and hail. An estimated 500 000 people were afflicted in the regions hit by the storm and unconfirmed reports from the governments of Bantu and Mozambique put the combined death toll at 47 people.

Rescue efforts are currently ongoing with about 2000 volunteers with support from police in Mozambique and over 3500 volunteers aiding victims in the regions of Bantu hit by the storm. The government in Egoli is currently trying to clear debris and make the roads in the affected regions passable again. The rains caused severe problems regarding traffic, cars were stopped by trees fallen across the roads and several bridges were damaged as rivers burst their banks.

Throughout Mozambique red alerts were issued by police along several of the country's rivers as they neared flood stage and over 8000 people were evacuated from their homes. Zimbabwe in turn saw it’s heaviest rainfall in almost 20 years and fears are now spreading across the country that a storm may cause similar flooding and devastation leading to calls on Harare from concerned citizen to prepare for such an eventuality.

New arms race in the Pacific?
Image
Japanese warships conducting maneuvers

Many organizations promoting, peace and international cooperation in the Pacific express deep concern over the recent developments in the region involving competing military exercises held by the UASC at Hawaii with Philippine involvement while the Empire of Japan hosted it's own naval exercises with it's Korean and Taiwanese allies in response to alleged crossings of Chinese fishing vessels into the EEZ of the Reorganized Republic of China (Taiwan). The Japanese exercises were also attended by another great power, the Soviet Union which sent four ships to participate. It's involvement mark the deepening relations between the Co-Prosperity Sphere and the Comintern as the two blocks grow closer in the face of a increasingly powerful China looking to assert itself in what the Chinese consider to be their backyard.

While most analysts consider a Soviet pivot to Asia unlikely as the country is deeply embroiled in the civil wars in Yemen and the UAR, it seems that the UASC may be more open to wide-ranging negotiations with China to end the trade dispute between the two nations and exert pressure on the Empire of Japan and GEACPS. If President Featherston does manage to secure a new, more beneficial trade deal with the RoC that increases the flow of goods while extending greater protection to the intellectual property rights of Columbian stakeholders, he will be able to claim victory in his trade policy in the upcoming Columbian elections.

Still no major international response to the Bengali Migrant Crisis
Image
Scores of people continue fleeing the dire
economic situation in Bengal

The Bengali Refugee Crisis has only continued to spiral out of control, with over a million Bengalis fleeing into Myanmar and India only within the last 6 months. This has only continued to strain the Indian economy, with their migrant population now only increasing at a faster and faster rate. Notable Indian politicians are calling for a summit in the League of Nations on how to solve this humanitarian crisis that looks as though it is only going to get exponentially worse in the next few months as the Bengali economy continues to falter while the country's environmental problems continue to deteriorate. The Indian province of West Bengal, which already has quite a high population density, has been struggling to deal with the continuous influx of people that continuously arrives from the east.

Both India and Bengal are calling for an international response, particularly from the West, but there are many who are skeptical. Notable Bengali critics look at what happened in UAR, and use that as evidence that the West will continue to turn a blind eye to disasters across the globe. This has seen an increase of skepticism in South Asia, that some say could lead to more radical beliefs in this particularly unfortunate corner of the globe at this time. The Indian Foreign Minister has been set on visiting Indonesia for an diplomatic meeting within the next few months, if the trip does occur, the talks are expected to focus of India's relations with Southeast Asia, the Bengali migrant crisis and the route a number of them are taking through Indonesia to Australasia, and economic relations between the two. For all we know, growing anti-western views might expand out of Bengal in the coming years.

UASC-Japanese sabre ratting polarizes opinions around the world.
Image
President of India, Sonia Gandhi

The recent strings of insults and diplomatic provocations between the United American States and Empire of Japan have led to outrage and polarization in their wake. Starting with Columbian President Featherston's accusation that Japan and it's secret services could have had a direct hand in the assassination of Australasian King Victor II. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe did not back down an instead blasted back, accusing Featherston of holding anti-Japanese racist opinions as well as denouncing the Columbian President's previous denunciation of the Treaty of Bangkok which ended the Pacific War. President Featherston's grandfather, Governor-turned-President Luke Featherston was infamous for his anti-Japanese policies which culminated in the JADA Act, which was not fully repealed until the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidency. Reactions came quickly, with German Kaiser Georg calling for cool heads to prevail and hosting an emergency diplomatic meeting between the UASC and Japan even as Featherston supporters in Washington held demonstrations outside the German and Japanese embassies in protest against the talks.

Cooler heads did in the end prevail and many in the UASC, especially Democrats such as Barack Obama and Joe Biden strongly supported the talks and opposed further tensions, both men also publically congratulated Vice President Mike Pence, who represented the UASC in the talks and praised his efforts to decrease tensions and contribute to regional stability. Some have seen Pence as a possible candidate in the upcoming Columbian elections. A polarizing voice, some say there are those in the Columbian Republican Party who would prefer to see a candidate like Pence take the lead in the next election instead of someone as prone to causing controversy in the media as Featherston, who was also accused of holding racist views against persons of Japanese ethnicity by President Gandhi of India, who called for the Columbian military exercises to be cancelled.

Korean economic growth less than expected as sporadic violence continues in the North.
Image
Despite successful counter-insurgency operations
remnants of the Korean Liberation Army continue to operate

The arrest of Han Sangwoo and several other central figures of the Korean Liberation Army in the wake of the Seoul Bombing of 2018 which left 41 Korean police officials and Kempeitai agents dead has seemingly not deterred the remaining KLA cells in northern Chosen from continuing the fight against the Korean government and it's Japanese allies. With two recent high-profile actions attributed to KLA activity, namely the still ongoing Nampo dockworker's strike and the disappearance of two Japanese engineers working for local mining companies.

Song Jian, government spokeswoman for the Republic of Chosen has officially stated in a recent press-conference that the Republic's security forces alongside their Japanese partners are working swiftly to establish "lasting order" and to "eliminate any remaining terrorist elements in the Northern part of our country." The Japanese Kempeitai is expected to bolster it's presence in the Protected Republic of Korea over the next few months as attempts are made by Korean and Japanese security forces to isolate and destroy KLA cells in the country, focusing first on major cities such as Pyongyang and Chongjin.

Baathist forces inch closer to Khalidiyah - SLC accepts talks
Image
Loyalist troops prepare to advance on
Haqlaniyah - Anbar Province

Loyalist troops have made gains in their advance towards Ramadi as the Baathist regime attempts to take the city that houses the headquarters of the Shiite Liberation Coalition after the fall of Karbala. Advancing along the Euphrates with armored and air-support, Baathist forces took control of the abandoned Al Taqaddum airbase and the town of Habbaniyah from where they began shelling SLC defensive strongpoints on the approaches to Ramadi. The UAR's Air Force has reportedly once again been using barrel-bombs in Ramadi over the last week, their inaccuracy often leading to civilian casualties during the airstrikes while little damage was done to any real defensive positions. With the SLC having been severely weakened after the UAR focused it's resources against it around half a year ago, the Baathist loyalists seem on the verge of securing full control over southern Iraq. The pressure became too much and the SLC agreed to hold talks with government representatives during February, these seem to have borne fruit as joint operations have commenced around Haditha Dam lake, where Loyalist troops and Shia militias fought against the Army of the Prophet, attempting to push the Jihadi forces further north.

In the north, according to the most recent reports, the Kurdish communist forces have dug in at Kal Teppe and Khorsabad as well as particularly around Erbil, shifting forces away from the Mosul Front. Where these troops, which have allegedly included a large number of BMP-1 IFV's and T-72 tanks rumored to have been delivered from the PRK and USSR will be redeployed to is unknown. A number of analysts have however anticipated them to be sent against Al-Iskandarun. Such an offensive would lead to the first major clash between the Hashemite restorationists and the Kurdish communists, with one of the major Entente powers, namely Italy, being the primary foreign backer of the Hashemites, these clashes may worsen the tensions in Europe over the ongoing insurgencies in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Dozens of high-ranking Soviet officials arrested in CPSU’s anti-corruption drive.
Image
High-profile arrests have been made across the USSR

Last week, the number of CPSU officials arrested in the anti-corruption crackdown announced by the government rose to 203 after Aleksandr Bogovich, vice-chair of the Mogilev Oblast's OBKOM was arrested along with seven other local officials for charges of corruption which are now pending investigation by the Police. Anti-corruption drives are not new to the Soviet Union but that so many arrests were made in so short a time is almost unprecedented. The persons detained include two ministers but with corruption being such a widespread structural problem in the Soviet administration, the anti-corruption crackdown is not simply an effort to reduce corruption and graft but also has a significant political implication.

According to a number of experts, the new anti-corruption drive is an attempt at institution-building by Zyuganov. By signaling that no one is "off limits" and by targeting retired officials, the campaign is aimed to reduce the influence of party "elders" who were no longer in office but nevertheless wanted to interfere in political affairs and to extinguish vestiges of influence of people close with former General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev. Gorbachev's time in power saw a marked increase in patronage appointments that spanned the military, the oblasts, and the party apparatus. Patron-client relationships, rather than merit, became the primary factor in securing promotions, giving rise to the formation of internal factions based on personal loyalty.

By reversing this part of Gorbachev's legacy, some observers believe Zyuganov would be better equipped to discipline and unite the party under a common agenda. Proponents of this view believe that the ultimate aim of the campaign is to strengthen the role of institutions and stamp out factionalism and networks of personal loyalty, thereby creating a more united CPSU organization and achieving greater efficiency for governance.

Rise of Morocco continues.
Image
Sultan of Morocco announced a day of celebration
in the country

Morocco has seen unprecedented international praise by many international organizations, most notably by the League of Nations Global Commission on Human Rights, for the expansion of their laws on civic liberties. These increased rights of expression have been widely celebrated in Morocco by supporters of the monarchy, but critics, both in the country and abroad, have widely seen these reforms as not enough, pointing out the fact that it still allows journalists to be widely punished for not abiding to the rules of the monarchy. Whilst their are a number of vocal critics of Morocco's politics at this point in time, their international reputation has generally seen a positive trend with their dedication to green energy, and their expansion of civic rights.

Still, the Rabat Solar Plant has yet to attract any significant foreign investment. The widely popularized megaproject aimed at laying the groundwork for wide-scale exploitation of the great potential Morocco has for the production of solar energy. The construction of the first phase of the Rabat Solar Project has been underway since 2018, Rabat I would bring about 580 MW of power to the region. A step towards the collective goal of 2500 MW or above, though they were still far from it. With Rabat I soon to be online, it may attract foreign investment the Moroccan government hoped for when announcing the megaproject, should it give the expected result.

Northern half of Fraser Island - Queensland Australasia is "a blazing inferno".
Image
Will Australian woodlands ever bounce back?.

A large wildfire is burning on Fraser Island off the coast of Queensland, Australasia. It has been raging for the better part of two months and has since grown to 46 miles in length, north to south, covering much of the 76-mile long island. Officials from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) believe it started from an illegal cooking fire that was not completely extinguished. Crews from the QFES are assisting the Australasian Parks and Wildlife Authority rangers who are working hard to contain the blaze with the use of back burns, assisted by air tankers which have been dropping water on the fire before reloading at Bundaberg. Judging from the satellite data, the fire appeared to burn in a mosaic pattern, leaving unburned areas scattered throughout the fire’s footprint. Fraser Island is listed as a World Heritage national park by the League of Nations, is the world’s largest sand-island, covered with rainforests, pristine freshwater lakes, seafront rock pools, colored sand cliffs, massive dunes and more than 75 miles of unspoiled beachfront facing the Pacific Ocean.

People around the world have expressed concern over the future of Australia's forest and woodlands as the wildfires seem to affect the area with increasing severity and intensity. The Australasian Parks and Wildlife Authority has been trying to signal calm, repeatedly issuing official statements that many of Australia’s ecosystems actually require fire to stimulate growth and regenerate some plant species. As a result, the landscape is naturally extremely prone to fire and burns easily so properly securing cooking fires is of particular importance when camping.

Foreign Ministry Reacts to Targeting of Japanese Embassy:

Tokyo, January 9th - As Columbian protesters gather outside of the Imperial Embassy in Columbia in support of President Featherson, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Columbian law enforcement to "do everything in their power" to prevent violence against Japanese citizens and any Japanese-Columbians. The Ministry further warned Japanese citizens in Columbia or affliated nations to return home or seek safety in the embassy or local consulate.

Minister of Defense Yamazaki took a harsher tone, warning of a "strong response" if Japanese citizens were targeted. In remarks, Yamazaki vowed that "offensive measures" were being prepared against any foreign government that threatens Japanese.

Imperial Armed Forces Launches Week-long Drills:

Tokyo, January 11th - Following through with promised drills, the Imperial Armed Forces hosted combat exercises alongside the glorious militaries of the Reorganized Republic of China, the Republic of Chosen, and the Soviet Union. Drills are scheduled to include beach-landing operations, air superiority drills, simulated naval operations, and disaster relief exercises. The drills reportedly will include over 12,000 personnel conducting drills across the nation, which also is said to involve cyber warfare training.

The Minister of Defense has hailed the cooperation in the drills, telling reporters that the drills would increase interoperability between the four militaries and deepen defense ties. He praised Soviet involvement as marking "a new age" of relations between Japan and the Soviet Union, and expressed hope that the Soviet Union would take part in future exercises.

The Ministry of Defense has stressed that the drills are defensive in nature, and are meant to ensure peace in the region.

Across the Pacific, the Columbian military is set to begin its own military drills in Hawaii, which the Ministry of Defense pledged to monitor. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Ministry told reporters that the Imperial Navy would be deploying "intelligence assets" to monitor Columbian drills, warning Columbia against any provocations.

Prime Minister Abe Inaugurates New Missile Complex:

Tokyo, January 20th - Earlier today amid tensions with the west, Prime Minister Abe made a visit alongside the Minister of Defense to a new Imperial Strategic Forces base in an undisclosed part of Japan. The base, buried deep underground, reportedly has been under construction for a few years now, featuring some of the most advanced missile delivery systems in existence.

Rare pictures from inside the complex show new missile magazines on an automated railway system, allowing Type 56 "Hakkō Ichiu" and newer Type 5 "Seisen" ballistic missiles to be fired at a rapid rate, without needing to constantly reload singular launchers. The missiles, with 2,500 km and 3,200 km ranges respectively, are capable of reaching hostile targets across mainland China, marking a significant conventional deterrence capability.

Images from the site also show hundreds of cruise missiles, capable of more stealthy attacks. Despite refusing to go into detail about the base, Field Marshal Kōji Yamazaki hailed the base as "the pinnacle of the Strategic Force's deterrence capabilities." He went on to say that the base was effectively immune from nuclear attack, praising the Imperial Armed Forces and scientists for their innovations and hard work.

The Field Marshal however noted that the facility did not contain nuclear missiles, warning Japan's adversaries that Japan has multiple response options. "Japan has every single option at its disposal. We can strike from the land, air, sea, and cybernetically. Our missiles are some of the most precise in the world. If our adversaries attack, missiles will rain down on them day and night every day of war. That is why we deter them from such foolish mistakes. Japan is content with its territory, content with how it lives. Only the Beijing regime and the UASC want to invade and colonize Asia. We are the protectors of peace. They do not dare attack if we are able to strike them so hard."

Concern Over Increasing Terrorist Violence in Chosen:

Tokyo, February 1st - As violence continues to mount in northern Chosen, Prime Minister Abe has mused launching a "Special Internal Operation" against communist forces. Slamming the backing from the illegitimate regime in Beijing, Abe has repeatedly vowed to stem the violence with force if necessary, calling it a "duty" to the Co-Prosperity Sphere.

In an ultimatium to terrorist forces, the Tokko, or Speical Higher Police as they are known in the west, has called on insurgents to turn themselves in by February 20th, or face "unimaginable repercussions." The move comes as the Minister of Defense has reportedly ordered the Kenpeitai to mobilize and "prepare to deploy to secure the Empire."
