NATION APPLICATION
Image
Formal Nation Name: The Cape Republic / Die Kaapse Republiek

Informal/Casual Nation Name: South Africa

Government Type: Unitary Parliamentary Republic
Head of State: Jacob Bathandwa

Head of Government: Johannes van Schalkwijk
Capital: Cape Town
Population: 18.1 Million
Military Population: 201,000 est.
Territory: South Africa, Swaziland
Territorial Conflicts: None
Alignment: A.C.P.M (African Continental Protection Movement)

History:
With her former colonies fatefully slipping the grasp of the former British Empire during the wake of The Great War, South Africa and her people were undergoing a rapid societal change and saw a renewed national identity among the populace both White and Black, but more importantly they saw a chance to slip the yoke of their former colonial overlords with the political and economic turmoil taking place in the British Isles proper. This rapid decline in relations with not only South Africa, but the rest of her colonies was an opportunity to forge an independent path ahead, something which many politicians both sides of the spectrum saw fit to take advantage of. With the refusal to back Britain in supplying the Nazi war machine ravaging Europe with coal and natural resource, the anti-British sentiment was furthered in both the populace and the upper echelons of the government as many now viewed the isolated island nation as Nazi collaborators, and many still vindicated the British over the Boer War where old wounds refused to heal. This perfect storm of events spurred an independence movement that officially seceded from the British Commonwealth in 1943 with the fall of the Monarchy, which many regarded as the fall of the commonwealth. All colonial holdings were ceded to South African governmental control in a relatively bloodless transition, several British warships were expelled from South African ports and colonial garrisons were arrested and disarmed pending further transportation home. During this time, South Africa also entered into a formal union with her neighbour, Rhodesia, both nations sharing similar culture and political ideals from which a mutual agreement was beneficial, especially in such a turbulent international climate.

After WW2, South Africa welcomed many British expats into the country and with them they bought a wealth of experience of which South Africa used to further their industrial growth and technological research, even with such an influx the South African government continued to shrug off the influence of British politics and socialist tendencies and turned their attention towards more domestic issues that pressed the globe rather than issues further afield in Europe and Asia. This included addressing the rampant problem of colonialism still present on the African continent. In the 50’s, South Africa renamed themselves to the Cape Republic and propped up a Rhodesian Government which shared many of the Cape Republic’s hard-line anti-colonialist stances, the two nations further solidified relations with political, military and economic support, refusing to cow to the external powers still present in Africa both Communist or otherwise. This resulted in a joint military/economic pact in the 60’s named the A.C.P.M, or the African Continental Protection Movement that not only incorporated The Cape Republic and Rhodesia, but the African Continent as a whole, hoping to restore African identity and propel the continent into the new age to better resist the exploitation of the First World.

The Great Republic of the Philippines / Ang Dakilang Republika ng Pilipinas / Ang Dakong Republika sa Pilipinas
The Philippines / Philippines / Pilipinas

Government Type: Authoritarian Dictatorship with ceremonial legislative body: The head of government assumes total control of both the executive and legislative branches of government. A bicameral congress exists consisting of the senate and the house of representatives, though they hold no power over national policies (they are relegated to the declaration of holidays, renaming of locations, and other inconsequential matters). The national policy-making powers is invested to the President and his selected cabinet.
Head of State: President Carlos P. Garcia
Image

Head of Government: President
Capital: Manila
Population:25.58 Million
Military Population: 178,000 total forces (55% Active, 45% Reserve)
Territory: Historical borders of the Philippines, with Palau as a protectorate.
Territorial Conflicts: The republic of the Philippines lays claim to Sabah, a territory currently held by Malaya/Malaysia (whichever country is present in the current timeline). It also challenges China's nine-dash line, particularly over the Spratly Islands
Alignment: Formally unaligned, though commonly seen as CTO-leaning due to the President's vehement anti-communist stance. Its troubles with China regarding the South China Sea are a hurdle to being a full-fledged member of the CTO.
History: In 1918, the Americans underwent a "glorious revolution". A majority of the armed forces stationed in America were recalled back to the mainland to combat the uprising. The Filipinos, long fed up with the white men's unabashed exploitation of the motherland, staged a coup of their own. Various insurgency groups mostly made up of farmers and workers stormed the American bases throughout the island. Alongside them were Spanish-Filipino war veterans and nationalists, Non-American businessmen, and even elected members of the Philippine Assembly. Thus, the Philippine islands achieved independence in the twilight of 1918. The first elected president post-American independence was Manuel L. Quezon, a reformist with a knack for diplomacy. He made subsequent improvements to the economy, agricultural sector, worker's rights, and educational system. He also enfranchised women, allowing them to become voters, and was the head of creating a national language for Filipinos. His attempts at improving the lives of the lower class made the American Union State a bit more accepting of an independent Philippines.

The 1920s under President Quezon was looked upon favorably by almost all sectors. The Quezon administration formed friendly relations with the AUS, while also forming diplomatic ties with the Russian federation. The lingering presence of American businessmen in the Philippines was also a source of contention for various factions within the country. To the surprise of the majority, these American businessmen weren't deported out of the country. Instead, the government nationalized a significant portion of their industries, which included sectors like mining and farm plantations. President Quezon's death on October 2, 1929, was a source of grief for many in the Philippines.

The 1930s in the Philippines was a balancing act. They needed to balance the national interest with growing diplomatic tensions all across the globe. Perhaps one of the few mistakes the Quezon administration had made was allowing the American businessmen to remain and operate within the islands. They quickly regained their economic acumen, undoing a significant portion of Quezon-era policies, and were soon influencing national politics. During World War 2, the Philippines was formally neutral. The powerful capitalist elements within the Philippine government drew the country away from siding with the AUS. They provided nominal support to the Japanese empire and were receptive to the idea of the co-prosperity sphere. However, the defeat of the Japanese left the country with very few allies.

The postwar period was mired in capitalist politics. The elites were becoming bolder and bolder with their tampering, with the postwar president Sergio Osmeña being seen as nothing more than a puppet for the Americans and British who ran away from the new government installed in London. This gave way to the rise of communist elements within the country, aiming As such, the 1950 presidential elections were emotionally charged. The elected President was Carlos P. Garcia, a populist candidate who sought to eliminate both the 'subversive' communists in the country as well as the American capitalists within the country. His popularity allowed him to run for a second term, narrowly beating out another darling of the masses Ramon Magsaysay. However, his ineffective measures against the communists meant that they became more and more powerful within the fringes of society. On the other hand, Garcia's "Filipino First policy" was much more effective in curtailing foreign influence on the Philippine economy. It was in Garcia's second term that Palau became a protectorate of the republic, citing a "shared history" and the fact that a significant portion of Palauan demography has roots tracing back to the Philippine archipelago. A bomb attack within the capital city of Manila in 1957 caused president Garcia to declare martial law for the whole of the country. Garcia used martial law to imbue the president with more powers, especially on the legislative side since the majority of the elected senate belonged to the rival political party of Garcia. 3 years of martial law have passed and President Garcia shows no sign of slowing down. However, the ever-present communist threat looms in the jungles and mountains of the archipelago.

Hey, everyone! Just posting to let y'all know that, considering the large influx, it's difficult to sort through on my own.

So I've officially promoted Great Confederacy of Commonwealth States (GCCS) to be a Co-OP to help me try to manage this. Will try to update the roster/do at least some of the load as well, but I'm officially giving my sanction as OP for his decisions. That means his word is as good as mine.

NATION APPLICATION

Formal Nation Name: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
Informal/Casual Nation Name: Ethiopia

Government Type: Military Junta
Head of State: President Markos Habtamu Nazwari
Head of Government: Minister General Kassa Abel Eleazar
Capital: Addis Ababa
Population: 23.15 Million
Military Population: 657000
Territory: Ethiopia, Eritrea
Territorial Conflicts: N/A
Alignment: A.C.P.M (African Continental Protection Movement)
History: After World War Two, Ethiopia struggled for independence against Italy, and after a few bloody years the communists were expelled from Ethiopia. The war-torn Ethiopia sat in disarray for many years, until in 1952 a warlord by the name of Kassa Abel Eleazar gained prominence in the Ethiopian steppe, utilizing motorized vehicles acquired from old Italian holdings to defeat the competition who was widely under equipped. Over the next three years, Eleazar formed the Democratic Army of Ethiopia and expanded his territory across the country, uniting it by force.

By 1955, the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia was effectively established as the legitimate government of Ethiopia, and Eleazar installed a figurehead as the president of the nation while retaining all of the real power. He refocused on rebuilding, investing in the nation’s economy and importing machinery and tools to rebuild a decade’s worth of war torn infrastructure. Once the economic security of the nation was secured by good harvests in ‘56 and ‘57, he focused on modernizing his military.

They would send delegates to be signatories of the Cape Town treaty which secured their place in the A.C.P.M. However, old warlords attempted to throw a coup in the capital, and after 15 days of disarray, Eleazar put down the coup with loyalist forces, and held a public execution of the opposition’s leadership. This was seen by many as a test of Eleazar’s strength of leadership, and cemented his claim to the rule of the country, the only opposition who dare openly dissent have fled to the mountains, while many others have simply given up and left the country.

Arunachal Pradesh is a state of India (created on 20 January 1972\), located in the far northeast. It borders the states of Assam and Nagaland to the south and shares international borders with Burma in the east, Bhutan in the west, and China in the north. The majority of the territory is claimed by China, by whom it is called South Tibet. The northern border of Arunachal Pradesh reflects the McMahon Line, a line demarcated by the 1914 Simla Convention between the United Kingdom and the Tibetan government. The Chinese government never accepted the Simla Convention, and it was also considered invalid by Tibetans due to unmet conditions specified in the treaty. The boundary was not broadly enforced by the Indian government until 1950. Currently, this territory is administered by India.

Not OP but just a minor clarification on the section of your app that concerns Indian-Chinese dispute:

A) There hasn't been a Sino-Indian War (yet at least). Even in RL, this happened a few years after the start of this RP.
B) Arunachal Pradesh does not share an international border with Burma, since Burma (Myanmar) is a part of India in this TL.

Other than that, I am OK with the parts of your app that concern Indian - Chinese relationship.

Malagasy Democratic Republic (Malagasy: Repoblika Demokratika Malagasy)
Madagascar

Government Type: Unitary Semi-presidential Republic (under de facto Junta)
Head of State: President Julien Ravalomanana
Head of Government: Prime Minister Gabriel Ramanantsoa
Capital: Antananarivo
Population: 5.5 million
Military Population: 110,000
Territory: Madagascar, Mauritius, Réunion and Comoros
Territorial Conflicts: Claims the Seychelles. Military occupation, with limited recognition, of Mauritius, Réunion and Comoros
Alignment: A.C.P.M (African Continental Protection Movement
History: With the end of WWII and the subsequent communist revolution in France, the farthest flung of those colonies under the Tricolore found themselves free from the yolk of Paris. One such example was the Colony of Madagascar and Dependencies, where the old ruling class were exiled, nativist forces taking their place. The success of the Malagasy Uprising in 1948 saw the declaration of the independence of the Malagasy Democratic Republic, a de jure republic, but under the effective control and governance of the military. With the retreat of the loyalist French to the Western colonies, the M.D.R. moved to fill the effective void, occupying the isles and territories of Mauritius, Réunion and Comoros.

Since independence, the governing party has undertaken extensive policies of authenticité, with the goal of removing the vestiges of colonial French influence from the nascent state. However, where European influence has faded, a most peculiar movement has arisen in the intellectual class of Antananarivo. Resettlement of Jewish refugee populations to the nation’s wealthier urban centres throughout WWII has resulted in a minor nationalist movement that posits that the Malagasy are one of the “lost tribes of Israel.” Whilst met with derision from most, the nationalist rhetoric that such a concept enables has seen it steadily increase in popularity amongst the military elite.

Since the 1950s, the state has primarily focused on industrialisation and militarisation, with an overall goal of autarchy and independence from the powers of the First and Second Worlds. To such an end, Malagasy dignitaries would join their Ethiopian counterparts in ratifying the Cape Town treaty and joining the expanded A.C.P.M.

Kenya

Government Type: Unitary Presidential Republic
Head of State: The Right Honourable Akil Kenyatta
Head of Government: The Right Honourable Akil Kenyatta
Capital: Nairobi
Population: 8.8 million
Military Population: ~161,000
Territory: Kenya, Uganda (Protectorate)
Territorial Conflicts: None
Alignment: A.C.P.M.
History: As the former colonies of the British Empire steadily began to slip away from their colonial masters during the interwar period, a sort of minor cultural and political revolution would take place in the former British East African protectorate states. When word of the waning power of the British crown spread to East Africa following the economic depression and ensuing Second World War, the local East African government saw an opportunity too enticing to not seize: self-governance. By 1943, with the fall of the British Monarchy, British Kenya and British Uganda were effectively self-governing colonial states with no master. Both Uganda and Kenya were quick to ally with each other as British ships and troops left the region, hoping to form a bulwark against not only the communist world, but also the opportunistic democracies of the east, which many people saw as "no better than imperialist."

Leading into the 1950s, Kenya and Uganda both became unitary presidential republics, and were quick to reject the traditional notions of race-driven minority and majority governments and similar irritating matters. The local government, mostly composed of former white, British officials, also advocated for increased representation and integration of majority black Africans. Kenya became a country where any man, no matter his race, could run for office, although many would criticize the government for being rather meritocratic and elitist in its insistence to admit only those who were well-educated or politically experienced. The very few British military units under the Kenyan African Rifles, who had stayed to pledge their allegiance to Kenya, would be tasked to train a new generation of soldiers under the new Kenyan Defense Forces.

As anti-colonial sentiment spread by the communist west spread throughout Africa, so too did an urge to see the entire continent red. Although not blatantly anticommunist, Kenya and Uganda were targeted by a number of anti-capitalist propaganda campaigns from the west, and were also subject to intimidation and pressure brought about by the Red Navy, who claimed almost all of Britain's former overseas colonies in order to spread communism further.

In 1958, Kenya and Uganda would be tested by the so-called "Mau Mau insurrection," a socialist uprising believed to have been propagated by communist west. Mostly comprised of a coalition Kikuyu, Meru, Embu, Kamba, and Maasai peoples, the uprising saw almost four months of violence in two otherwise placid countries, halted only after paratroopers of the Kenyan African Rifles captured and killed rebel leader Daniel Shimanzi, forcing a surrender of the insurrection. Uganda, after a number of political meetings with Kenyan leaders, agreed to a partnership with their eastern neighbor that saw both states joining an informal union, in order to promote political, military, and economic relations.

Today, Kenya is still an independent and self-sustaining nation under President Akil Kenyatta, though it retains a de facto protectorate status over its neighbor, Uganda, which it maintains friendly relations with. Kenya has also applied for membership of the African Continental Protection Movement, its political and economic views coincidentally aligning with two other former British colonies: Rhodesia and the Cape Republic.

Head of State: Tsaritsa Olga I of the House of Romanov
Head of Government: Alexei Kosygin, Prime Minister of the Russian Empire.
Capital: Saint Petersburg/Moscow

Territory: (all territory you govern)
Territorial Conflicts: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Finland, Poland, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Tajikstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyrstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Northern Iran (occupied during WW2).
Alignment: CTO
History:

The Russian Empire's divergence from the OTL occurred in the mid-1890s with the ascension of Tsar Nicholas II to the throne of All-Russia. Through the influence of his ministers, they themselves watching the events in the Americas and Europe with interest, began to enact their own hybrid plan of Capitalism directed by the established Autocratic state. Thus, when World War One broke out Russia was more industrialized, yet still suffered a rather humiliating series of defeats and loss of territories to the Central Powers. Though not as extensive in OTL the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was damaging to the Romanov's and much of the interwar years was spent quelling dissent and reinvigorating the economy. Having lost Finland, Poland, and the Baltic states during the Interwar period.

When World War II broke out and when Nazi Germany invaded in 1941 the greatest war of the 20th century unfolded. Axis forces driving deep into the heard lands of the Empire before being stopped before Moscow, at Saint Petersburg, and later at Tsaritsyn (later renamed to Stalingrad for the leadership of then Prime Minister Joseph Stalin). Driving back the Axis forces Winter 1943 onwards until the Imperial Army hoisted the Victory Banner over the Reichstag in April, 1945.
