Prime Minister-elect Robert Lumbell

Prime Minister Robert Lumbell condemned the Yuaneze government and announced the suspension of diplomatic relations with the Ausianan power over the ongoing crisis in the Jinchon Sea. Lumbell called the sinkings of international ships a "disgrace and a travesty," and called on President Xi to "cease all hostilities against neutral states and against the island of Gangkou."

"This horrific crisis must end in order to ensure a peaceful world and safe travel for trade, not to mention the tens of thousands of travelers through the region each day, and the tens of millions of people in the region," Prime Minister Lumbell said.

Lumbell recalled Ambassador Ruen Benson from Yuan, and he also ordered that the Yuaneze delegation leave the embassy in Vogoci with the backing of parliament.

THE ACADRE TRIBUNE
PARABOCAN JET SHOT DOWN, GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN DIPLOMATIC TIES WITH YUAN
Image
The crisis off the coast of Ausiana has impacted Paraboca directly with the downing of a passenger plane over the Sancheon Gulf.

The Parabocan government has ceased all diplomatic contact with De Yuaneze following the apparent shootdown of a Parabocan passenger jet over the Sancheon Gulf, with the loss of all 166 people on board. An AeroParaboca flight, registered as Flight 8, disappeared from radar on route from Siniapore to Cardoza. Wreckage of the flight was found scattered across the Sancheon Gulf by international shipping vessels, and several reports from nearby ships claim a Yuaneze ship fired a missile at the plane, shooting it down and killing all passengers and crew, most of whom were Parabocan. President Oriol Miguélez called the shootdown the "greatest act of terror on our nation in two decades", and he ordered the embassy in Shanghan to close while recalling all diplomatic staff.

An investigation is underway, being assisted by many nations, Zamastan in particular, as the full picture aims to be painted in regard to the events surrounding Flight 8's sudden downing. Recent military activity and unprovoked sinkings of international ships by Yuan in the waters around the contested island of Gangkou have drawn international condemnation, and President Miguélez joined in those calls after the loss of AeroParaboca Flight 8.

"Yuan's evil pursuit of influence over the seas has wreaked havoc in the last several days," Miguélez said, "and we strongly condemn all the sinkings as the depraved mind of President Xi seeks to assert his violent hand of control."

According to Parabocan authorities, the Toring 727 took off from Siniapore at 8:10 PM local time on a routine 11-hour flight from the small Ausianan nation to the Parabocan capital. It disappeared from the radar at 8:40 PM, around which point several shipping and fishing vessels reported a streak of light streaking from the waterline into the atmosphere, with many calling it akin to a missile. Some boats reported witnessing the plane itself crash into the sea. Bodies have already been recovered from the scene, as have fragments of the plane, and there are no survivors.

It is unknown why Yuan shot down the plane, as the transponder was active and the pilots were communicating with air traffic control in Siniapore, Gangkou, and Shanghan. The plane's black box has not been found yet, although the Parabocan government has endorsed a Zamastanian naval mission to recover it before Yuaneze naval ships reach the site. Investigators from Paraboca have been gathering evidence at a designated port in northern Gangkou.

The passenger manifest of the flight indicates the following nationalities were aboard the flight:
10 crew: 9 Parabocan, 1 East Chanchajillan
156 passengers: 128 Parabocan, 19 Siniaporean, 4 Yuaneze, 2 Zamastanian, 2 Shoassauans, 1 Caspiaan

Siniapore Applies for WEDA Membership Amidst Rising Tensions

Siniapore's President Tee Hsien Moong condemned the downing of a Parabocan passenger jet which left Siniapore's airport yesterday bound for Cardoza. Of the 166 people on board, 19 were Siniaporean. All passengers and crew died after a Yuaneze missile struck the airliner. "The war that Yuan is waging against innocent lives is a horrific one," Moong said, "and Xi doesn't bring the benefit of engaging with the armed forces of other nations, rather he tests his missiles on cargo ships, fishing boats, and passenger airliners."

Moong also stated that the Siniaporean government had voted and approved a resolution to apply for WEDA membership in a striking moment that underlines the threat that Moong believes Siniapore is facing.

"If WEDA accepts our application to join, and in doing so we would become the first Ausianan nation in the alliance, we would be an important counter to Yuan's growing aim to control the entire Jinchon Sea and Sancheon Gulf region," Moong said.

The Siniaporean naval forces stated that they would be detaining any Yuaneze vessels that pass through its waters for as long as this crisis continues.

Prime Minister Tullia Grönberg has issued stark statements regarding Caspiaa's intentions for the growth of WEDA, May 20th, 2022
Grönberg Urges WEDA to Approve Siniapore's Membership, Moves to Issue 'Special Protection Status' for Kalea

Viitaniemi - Prime Minister Tullia Grönberg made a motion to the Western Euronia Defense Alliance (WEDA) that Caspiaa would not object to Siniapore's application to the military organization, and urged every member state to approve the application immediately to provide further deterrence to De Yuaneze aggression. Grönberg also made an advisory to WEDA to consider instituting protectionary status for the Kalean Confederation (Litchir) in the wake of the sinking of a Kalean warship by Yuan.

"It is imperative that we approve these measures to strengthen WEDA's standing and push back against Yuan's increasingly dangerous and malicious actions in Ausiana," Grönberg said in a statement she issued to WEDA Secretary-General Damian Levasseur. "Prime Minister Moong has shown great strength in resisting the efforts of Yuan to bring his small, yet incredibly influential nation, into the fold of its control. Amid the crisis and the death, flames, and disaster we've seen splayed out across the waves by Yuan this past week, we must ensure that their application to join WEDA is hurried and approved without significant delay."

As for the Kalean Confederacy, some politicians in its national legislature have expressed interest in joining WEDA in some capacity. Though they have not applied, the Caspiaan government and the Foreign Ministry, specifically Minister of Foreign Affairs Mathias Ronning, have been in contact with senior officials in their government offering a special protection status to the Kaoroans in a similar manner to what was granted to the Sotoan Basin Union following the September 2021 nuclear tests by Kyriakos Tasoulas in Syraranto.

After a Parabocan commercial passenger plane was shot down by a Yuaneze missile on Thursday night, the Caspiaan government rushed to enact emergency sanctions on Yuan, including the ceasing of all ongoing trade between the two countries, a complete freeze on Yuaneze assets within Caspiaa, and shutting down all diplomatic contact for the time being.

Prime Minister Repinin assures the public that his government continues to function, and will continue to
should they attain victory in the next election.

PRESSURE BUILDING: Repinin calls for an election amidst growing concerns over his leadership
Marina Lebedeva

ZALSOKER - Over the past few days as the Sancheon Gulf Crisis has evolved and changed, nearly every opposition party in Skarmia has called for Prime Minister Repinin to hold elections early in response to the government's supposedly 'noncommittal' response. In a surprise announcement backed by many members of his Independence Party in the Federal Assembly, the Prime Minister has done just that, scheduling the elections for the minimum period of two months away.

Skarmia's Independence Party is seeking a consecutive eighth term in the Federal Assembly, with Repinin poised to remain at the head of the party he now runs, and this may well be the reason for Repinin's call. Under election law in Skarmia, a political faction cannot change its leader in the two months leading up to an election, this being one of a littany of laws that many independent observers claim may have influenced Repinin's decision.

Lakoch Repinin has faced criticism from without and within his own party, with much of the outside focus being related to the handling of the ongoing Sancheon Gulf Crisis. Many are condemning Repinin for not showing a pro-Zamastan position, with Aleksei Maksimov of the party Váñechéša saying that Mr Repinin is a coward for not doing so.

"Skarmia earns much of her income from international trade and development," Maksimov stated in a press briefing early in the crisis; "We are a nation of export, and if we don't maintain our key friendships, we will suffocate under the weight of our production."

Within his own party and among other opposition parties, Repinin has faced criticism over being unwilling to side more overtly with De Yuan, indicating a deepening of the divide between Pro-Yuan and Pro-Zamastan political movements in the Federal Assembly. It may be that the Prime Minister hopes a strong victory in the next elections might reunify the party, and lessen the influence of some of the more ideologically radical parties.

Prime Minister Repinin appears confident that, should he attain victory in the election, he will be able to keep the party united. Says Repinin; "We are glad to serve the people of Skarmia, and we are sure that we shall continue to do so into the future. Our government functions well, and it shall remain functional should we win this next election."

The election shall occur on Saturday, July 23, with the next government forming to take the reigns of power for July 31. Please remember to apply for early voting should you require it, and familiarise yourself with voting laws in your area.

House Holstan condemns Yuan; Storting passes law to stop sale of oil to Yuan

Home | Tine | Nortua | International | Politics | Technology | Arts | Education | Health | Opinion

21 May, 2022.
Reidar Homme @RHommeOfficial

TINEGARD - King Martin II of House Holstan came out to the front lawn of the White Palace with his entourage of staff to make a historical announcement regarding the recent events in the Jinchon Sea. His Majesty referred to the De Yuaneze government as "a bloody jingoist regime." He pledged that the House of Holstan stands firmly with the families of those who have lost loved ones and to those who are affected by the attacks. Martin II did not comment on the status of the Zuonghau, a Yuaneze ship which was recently detained by Tinegardian Armed Forces on the 18th of May.

The Tinegardian Storting passed a resolution to stop the sale of oil to Yuan. The law is seen as a gesture of support to WEDA and a further condemnation of the Yuaneze government. Oil and fuel industry makes a majority of Tine's gross domestic product. Svenn Trande and the Conservative Tinegardian Party (CTP) know the resolution will be popular, potentially helping Trande and the CTP with re-elections. The Storting's vote was heavily in favor of stopping oil sale to Yuan.

To show his commitment, Martin II offers 25,000 in Tine Krone's to families who have lost loved ones in the recent events.

Breaking News:Honghu; Yuaneze Shipping Vessel Detained in Port of LI

Lisa Barnes (@LBarnes)
May 21st, 2022 | Arianna, Timeria

This morning in Arianna a Yuaneze shipping vessel was detained by the Coast Guard while docked at The Port of LI. The Honghu had arrived yesterday but authorities did not make any movies until this morning. Currently, the crew is also being held at a nearby hotel but has not been officially arrested or charged with any crime. It’s unknown why or what the contents of the ship were but a number of different agencies can be seen actively working at the port. This comes at a time of high tension as things spiral out of control in the Jinchon Sea. Many in Timeria fear this could lead to a wider conflict if not settled before any more loss of life. President Raso has condemned the attacks on non-military vessels and asked that all parties involved work to resolve the dispute. Timeria has historically taken a neutral stand on issues between Yuan and Zamastan but many believe that the sinking of the KMS Cech could shift policy. While not confirmed some experts have theorized that the detaining of the Honghu could be a response to the attack on the KMS Cech. Kossmil and Timeria have formed close ties since its unification and experts believe that Timeria will not play neutral on issues Kossmil consider integral to their security.

While there has been no attack on Timerian vessels the State Department has issued a warning to all vessels in the area to practice extreme caution and stick to established commerce routes. Trade with Ausiana is extremely important to the Timerian economy and a conflict between Yuan and Zamastan would cause economic strife across the globe. While Timeria is committed to peace there has also been a number of security concerns. To address this Timeria and Sera will be deploying a joint task force to the Toyana led by the KTS Damari Reeves. If a conflict were to break out in the region it’s important that both Timeria and Sera have the ability to respond. President Raso has ensured the public the task force will not provoke any foreign navy but will act accordingly to protect Timerian and Seran ships while maintaining and abiding by the laws of the sea.

The lack of security partners outside of Adula has long been a cause of concern for Timeria. This issue has been exacerbated by globalization and how intertwined the Timerian economy is with the global market. Many believe that Timeria should start to look outside of Adula for security partnerships that would boost international security and support a stable international economy. Many of Timeria’s economic allies are WEDA members which could see Timeria moving closer to this block. While Timeria continues to endorse peace it’s also important that security issues are managed appropriately.

YUAN AND ZAMASTANIAN DELEGATES MEET IN SECRET - XI ORDERS NAVY TO STAND DOWN

Image
SHANGHAN - Following a discreet diplomatic peace summit in Haduastan between Yuaneze and Zamastanian officials, Secretary-General and Comrade President Xi Jingyi has ordered all vessels within the Yuaneze naval forces to return to their home ports, both in mainland Yuan and adjoining allied nations as the crisis in the Jinchon and Sancheon Seas has gripped the nation. As of Saturday night, no Yuaneze military vessels will be in active operation in the region.

"We recognize the crisis unfolding in the regional seas," President Xi's office said, "and we are pulling Yuaneze forces into port in our hope to rescind the ongoing tension."

At the behest of Haduastani Prime Minister Sartaj Bali, delegates from Yuan and Zamastan met in Lalkot over the course of two days and came away with an agreement to a cool down of tensions. The Yuaneze government has agreed to place the bulk of its naval forces back into port and ground all flybys of Gangkou airspace, and the Zamastanian government has agreed to cease naval exercises with Siniapore in the Jinchon Sea. Freedom of navigation by naval vessels will still be permitted, but no military exercises will be allowed under the agreement.

President Xi also reportedly spoke with President Moreau of Zamastan following the agreement, promising to a third-bilateral summit between the two leaders. They have previously met one-on-one in Shanghan (April 2021) and in Tofino (November 2021).

"These developments will likely bring an end to the violence," Xi said, "but we still maintain that the actions of Zamastan have been assertive and provocative. Everything Yuan has done has been in the name of self defense, and we will not hesitate to defend ourselves should Zamastan and other aggressors seek to break this deal."

YUAN-ZAMASTAN EMERGENCY SUMMIT

Prime Minister Sartaj Bali welcomed delegates of the Zamastanian and De Yuaneze governments to negotiate over the deadly crisis which captivated the anxious world in the seas off western Ausiana. As part of the deal, the Yuaneze navy will return the majority of its ships to home port, while the Zamastanian navy will commit to no further drills with its allies in the region. Additionally, the two heads of state - President Atticus Moreau and President Xi Jingyi - have agreed to a bilateral summit in the coming week in order to further establish plans to seek a peaceful route.

The incentive to both nations to turn down their naval superiority in the region was not an easy one to reach, as both sides had to commit to concessions. As such, freedom of navigation for military ships will still be allowed in full as described under international maritime law, but no military drills may be carried out in international waters.

"It is vital that we continue the process of diplomacy over the flexing of guns," Prime Minister Bali said about the summit, which took place behind closed doors with general secrecy. "I appreciate the willingness of both governments to commit to peace."

Yuaneze foreign minister Mao Xieren and Zamastanian Secretary of State Brecken Gray were the respective head delegates at the meeting, which Bali chaired.

As hundreds of sailors, both civilian and military, were killed by sinkings of vessels and 166 passengers and crew of a commercial airliner were blown out of the sky, and the world held their breath as the two largest nations on the planet seemed on the brink. Bali aimed his government's association away from both Zamastan and Yuan as to remain neutral to allow for the option of peace talks.

President Voronin says resolution is "ultimately the best outcome for those involved".

Voronin Congratulates Yuan, Zamastan on Peaceful Resolution
Rilagia Saréina

President Voronin has expressed his congratulations to Presidents Moreau and Xi around the apparently peaceful resolution of the Sancheon Gulf Crisis that dominated newsrooms last week.

The crisis that emerged between the world powers of De Yuan and Zamastan that began as a Yuaneze vessel was sunk by Zamastanian forces, with its cause ultimately being the contested island of Gangkou, had caused the deaths of over 600 sailors and civilians, many from neutral countries. President Voronin says he is glad the crisis didn't escalate beyond there.

"Continued escalation was unfeasible. A war between two great powers would have meant untold harm for so many nations on the periphery. Negotiations and a peaceful settlement is, ultimately, the best outcome for those involved."

President Voronin had initially shown a great deal of sympathy for Yuan's position, stating in a press release that he did not blame Yuan for causing the crisis when it began on May 17. As the crisis wore on, Voronin's position appeared to shift, showing more sympathy for Zamastan's position, though consistently calling for calm between the two powers. Asked if his positions have changed, Voronin says that his positions are not what matters.

"Skarmia's ultimate position, in this conflict and many others, is neutrality. Unless we or our allies are threatened, it is not our place to rush to place blame, or decide too heavily one way or another on who is right or wrong. I endeavour to continue this policy throughout my tenure, and hope that there is still a place for it in Skarmia."

"Would I have made my position clearer if Skarmia were threatened? Absolutely! But being partisan in this issue would only cause further division, which is not what was needed at the time."

President Voronin expressed his hope that he could work with the leadership of both nations into the future to bring about mutual prosperity. In the final part of his address, he made special mention of Beleroskov.

"President Ubotrov, a true friend and ally to Skarmia, as the leader of Beleroskov and the individual to whom all nations in Ruskovia and Central Ausiana look up to, has offered characteristically strong leadership in this crisis, and remained a bastion of clear-headedness and rationality as the crisis evolved."

Prime Minister Repinin offered altogether more brief congratulations to both nations on behalf of the government of Skarmia.

MOREAU AND XI MEET IN KYNNPORT
Following the agreement reached in Lalkot, the two leaders met for an emergency summit in Alecburgh to officially establish terms to calm the Jinchon Sea crisis

Image
President Atticus Moreau shakes hands with President Xi Jingyi in Kynnport, Alecburgh.

POLITICAL CORRESPONDANT: Travis Canterbury (@TCanterburyOfficial)
KYNNPORT - As the governments off numerous nations scrambled to react appropriately to the brewing crisis in the Jinchon Sea, delegates from Zamastan and De Yuan met in secret at the behest of Haduastani Prime Minister Sartaj Bali in Lalkot. There, Secretary of State Brecken Gray and his counterpart Foreign Minister Mao Xieren agreed to a series of terms which has since seen the military forces of their nations return to a stalemate. In determination of continuing the process of peace-seeking, they agreed to a bilateral summit with the heads of state. The result was today's meeting between President Atticus Moreau and President Xi Jingyi in the Alecburghish capital of Kynnport, where they laid out additional agreements to the process of actively demilitarizing the seas off west Ausiana.

The meeting stands in stark contrast to the months of tensions, specifically in the past week which has seen hundreds of sailors and innocent civilians killed in the crossfire of Yuaneze aggression. Container vessels, naval ships on patrol, and a passenger airliner are among the casualties which now rest at the bottom of the Jinchon Sea and Sancheon Gulf, all of which has been met with strict international condemnation and the seizures of dozens of Yuaneze vessels in ports around the globe. Many outlets and governments prepared for the outbreak of a conflict, but Zamastanian authorities are vowing that will not happen.

"We are committed to ensuring that the West Ausianan straits remain clear of conflict and that nothing threatens the global maritime economic importance of the region," Secretary of State Gray said during the summit in Kynnport. "We will always defend our interests and the safety of Gangkou, but never will we intentionally seek out conflict with Yuan. Today's summit is an important step in healing the divides we've seen, and I commend the Yuaneze delegation for agreeing to diplomatic pursuit."

President Moreau and Xi arrived in Kynnport on Sunday morning at separate times, eventually shaking hands in the lobby of the National Theatre and Opera of Kynnport before residing themselves for their third bilateral summit together. They neglected to hold a joint press conference, but President Moreau spoke to journalists several hours after the meeting to overview some of the agreements reached.

"President Xi and I have committed to a number of agreements aimed at ceasing the continued chaos," Moreau said, "and I can definitively say that these steps will ensure at least a semblance of resolve."

Among the agreements was the commitment to cease all military drills in the international waters off Ausiana. While each nation is still permitted to conduct drills as they see fit within their own territorial waters, Yuan and the rest of the Shanghan Cooperation Alliance must restrict their naval movements to purely transitional and cannot engage in live-fire exercises anywhere outside the international bounds of maritime control. Such a breach is what most experts consider the cause of last week's dramatic tensions, as Yuaneze live-fire exercises were held in close proximity to and even within Gangkou's waters.

Secondly, Yuaneze air force cannot enter Gangkou airspace under any means. Breaches of Gangkou's airspace in the past has been considered one of Yuan's main attempts to delegitimize Zamastanian control of the island, and President Xi himself has asserted that the island's true sovereignty lies under Yuaneze authority. As such, flybys have become a regular occurence. The governor of Gangkou, Wan Yahui Croston, has repeatedly stated that the breaches of Yuaneze fighter jets and bombers constitutes the "most direct threat and opposition to our island's safety." Yuaneze naval vessels have also nearly all returned to their home ports, a significant concession that the Yuaneze government has already protested to some degree but have maintained is strategic in order to refocus their military structure in the region.

Many have stated the agreements reached in Lalkot paint the Yuaneze concessions as immense in comparison to what the Zamastanians were forced to comply with, as Zamastanian naval forces do not regularly conduct exercises in the Jinchon or Sancheon seas. As freedom of navigation is still in effect, the 3rd fleet under the ZMS Dubois nuclear aircraft carrier will still be free to transit to and from their homeport in Gangkou however it is deemed neccesary under naval doctrine. However, some agreements reached by the accords in Kynnport are still a deal which Zamastanian officials were reluctant to.

For one, the Zamastanian government has to release freezes on Yuaneze economic assets to which they placed sanctions on. While Yuan will have to abide in a similar fashion, some of the authorities in the Zamastanian state department have expressed their discontent over the concessions, with one anonymous official saying that it "only emboldens the Yuaneze to get away with more in the future. If they deem that economic sanctions are too crippling, they can lash out with their military, sink innocent ships, shoot down airliners, and then negotiate for easier terms in return for what essentially amounts to a check."

SEVERE WINDS LEAVES 4 DEAD AND MILLIONS WITHOUT POWER IN PAHL

Image
Several tornados and wind gusts caused widespread destruction in central Pahl.

WEATHER CORRESPONDANT: Ryan Cesterne(@CesterneTofino)
ALANIS - Nearly 1,900,000 homes in central Zamastan were left without power on Saturday after a severe storm hit the province of Pahl. Four people were killed by falling trees and a woman died when a boat capsized in the Blackfoot River. Wind gusts reached 82 mph (132km/h) during the storm, according to the Weather Service. Power company Hydro One, which covers Pahl, said it would take several days to reconnect every home. Meanwhile, the company also said 550,000 homes there lost power, with nearly 1,400,000 still suffering outages as of 10:00 AM on Sunday. The powerful thunderstorm, which lasted more than two hours, felled many trees, disrupted traffic, damaged homes and saw emergency services inundated with calls for help.

Pictures on social media show firefighters and utility workers trying to untangle downed powerlines and poles that are lying over cars on a road in Alanis. The town of Anbridge, about an hour north of Emerald, has declared a state of emergency after the storm left "significant damage in its wake", a statement said. Provincial Police said a 59-year-old man was killed when a tree was uprooted on a golf course in an Alanis suburb. East of the city, local media reported that a 44-year-old man was killed in another tree fall. One person died and two others were injured by an uprooted tree at a campsite about 60 miles (100km) from Alanis, and a woman in her 70s was killed while out walking in the suburb of Brampton, in the Greater Emerald area. A 51-year-old woman also drowned when a boat overturned in the Blackfoot River, which runs through the province.

James Etémé raises his fist in victory after winning the emergency referendum.

James Etémé Elected President in Rushed Election

James Etémé and his running mate Gathi Ehagua have won Apatonia's rushed referendum to install a new government, defeating opposition leader Kimbu Mejo'o. Etémé was backed by former-President Mlamuli Ngotsha, who conceded he would not run in late April, and threw his endorsement to Etémé. Mejo'o was backed by interim-President Nenge Pupina. With Mr Etémé's election victory and upcoming inauguration, Etémé leads the Apatonia First coalition, which comprises more than 10 political parties including his own New Democracy Party.

"This is a historic day for our nation as we seek to heal the wounds of this bloody period of violence," Etémé said in his victory speech. "We will realign our nation with the values of freedom and democracy, commit to our people, and align with our neighbors and seek to expand our allies."

The election was a sweep for Etémé, who recorded more than 68% of the popular vote compared to Mejo'o's nearest percentage of 23%.

Etémé is the first President elected since Mlamuli Ngotsha was sworn in 2018. Normally, elections would have occurred in April, but they were postponed by the interim government due to security concerns from the raging civil war. Etémé will now face the difficulty of working with any remaining politicians with sentiments towards the brief regime of Michel Lukonde, who is in exile in Elastan.

Additionally, Etémé will need to deal with a present security threat as fighting and sporadic clashes still continue in some parts of the country, mostly in the far east of Lundia province. The Unified Sera Government and forces loyal to the current Apatonian government are still conducting operations against the Lundia Defense Forces, who announced they would continue to oppose the government in Sifondo.

James Etémé served as the Interior Minister under Mlamuli, and he was able to escape the purge following Lukonde's takeover by joining rebel forces in the holdout city of Wabi. He, alongside with interim-President Pupina, were instrumental in the joining with Seran forces and the recapture of Sifondo.

Alcarres Purchases 2 Destroyers from Zamastan as Gunaydin Considers Possible WEDA Pursuit
Alcarresean president, Akkin Gunaydin, announced that the Alcarres Navy had purchased two Percilius-class destroyers from Zamastan in the pursuit of a sweeping modernization program underway within the armed forces. The Percilius-class destroyer is a Zamastanian guided missile destroyer which serve as multi-mission medium surface ships capable of sustained performance in anti-air, anti-submarine, anti-ship, and offensive strike operations. Like cruisers, guided missile destroyers are primarily focused on surface strikes using the FLAMs (Firebird land attack missile) and fleet defense through missile systems.

Above: A Percilius-class destroyer purchased by the Alcarresean navy

The two destroyers purchased by the Alcarres government have been renamed the ANP Santo Candido and the ANP Aldo Pantano. Largely relegated to a participant in peacekeeping and counter-piracy operations, the Alcarres navy is moderately sized, but Gunaydin has long sought to expand it to a significant player in the Albarine Sea. This comes as Gunaydin has expressed open consideration for a possible application to the Western Euronia Defense Alliance (WEDA) amidst rising tensions internationally.

The Alcarres Army, Navy, and Air Force collectively form the Alcarres Armed Forces, under the command of the Supreme Defence Council, presided over by the President of Alcarres. Since 2005, military service is voluntary. In 2010, the Alcarres military had 293,202 personnel on active duty. The Alcarres Army is the national ground defence force, numbering 109,703 in 2008. Its best-known combat vehicles are the Dardo infantry fighting vehicle, the Centauro tank destroyer and the Ariete tank, and among its aircraft the Mangusta attack helicopter, in the last years deployed in C.A.M.D.A. and C.C.A. missions. It also has at its disposal many Leopard 1 and M113 armoured vehicles. The Alcarres Air Force in 2008 had a strength of 43,882 and operated 585 aircraft, including 219 combat jets and 114 helicopters. A transport capability is guaranteed by a fleet of 27 C-130Js and C-27J Spartan. The Alcarres Navy in 2008 had 35,200 active personnel with 85 commissioned ships and 123 aircraft. It is a blue-water navy. In modern times the Alcarres Navy, being a member of the C.C.A. and C.A.M.D.A., has taken part in many coalition peacekeeping operations around the world.

Sulaiman meets with President Xi of Yuan in Zakaraban.

RHAGA - President Akram Sulaiman met with De Yuaneze President Xi Jingyi in an unannounced summit in the Zalluabedi capital of Zakaraban on Tuesday, mirroring the surprise summit held between Xi and Sulaiman's Zamastanian counterpart Moreau. The meeting, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Naadir al-Shaikh, is meant to be a continuation of efforts by WEDA members to deescalate the tensions in West Ausiana by appealing to the Yuaneze leadership directly. Following on the heels of a meeting in Alecburgh between Moreau and Xi, Sulaiman and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began pursuing a policy of negotiation.

Emmiria had sent multiple naval vessels to join Zamastanian forces near Gangkou last week as the crisis in the Jinchon and Sancheon waterways intensified. Yuan sank numerous international shipping vessels, a Kalean naval boat, and shot down a Parabocan commercial airliner. In total, more than 300 people died in the span of four days, all of whom were innocent. Sulaiman stated at the time, and still reiterated during the summit in Zakaraban, that the Emmirian government stood completely aligned with Zamastan and that the summit was meant as a show of good faith in the wake of Yuan's agreement to follow a demilitarization period to quell the tensions.

"While we strongly appreciate President Xi's decision to stand down his navy and seek a more restrained and approachable diplomatic effort," Sulaiman said, "we still want to ensure that this peace lasts. Safe seas off Ausiana benefit not only Yuan but the entire world. Freedom of navigation, global maritime commerce, and the importance of the economy in the region is incredibly vital, and all sides must respect this reality."

Skarmia, Zamastan meet for economic development meeting to deepen trade ties
Rilagia Saréina

Skarmia and Zamastan have decided to continue the bid to deepen their diplomatic relations through increased dialogue and trade, and to that end a Zamastanian delegation has recently met in Zalsoker with members of the Skarmian government to finalise talks on further increases in the volume of trade between the two nations.

Senator Averie Rutledge has led a diplomatic delegation from Zamastan to Skarmia that met with Skarmian officials to discuss ways in which both Zamastanian and Skarmian interests can be met through trade. The Zamastanian senator appeared with Minister Soniis Baepochin, the Skarmian Minister of Trade, in a press conference on Friday. The result? Positive, say both parties.

"The incentives posed by Skarmia's economic integration into a deal with the Zamastanian government presents a great opportunity for both of our nations," Senator Rutledge told press. "We will continue to seek mutually beneficial agreements that will produce positive results across the board on a diplomatic and humanitarian front, not to mention the expansion of our economic ties."

Senator Rutledge, also a key member in the Zamastan-Skarmia Friendship Group, stressed the importance of close trade ties between the two countries, and the value his country places on Skarmian exports. Senator Rutledge stated that he hoped continued trade and development would occur through long-term talks and continued sustainable dialogue, between countries, businesses and individuals.

For his part, Minister Baepochin stressed the importance of dialogue and openness between the two states, expressing his opinion that Zamastan is and should continue to be a powerful and stable friend to Skarmia into the future. He underlined the importance of setting long-term goals and an agenda of continued stable relationship. Says Baepochin; "It is of key importance to this government that Skarmia positions herself with her friends in mind."

During his visit, Senator Rutledge also visited with Prime Minister Repinin and Foreign Minister Filipov to outline diplomatic aims between the countries, with Prime Minister Repinin stating in a social media release that talks were "fruitful". The Senator also spent some time travelling around major cities to meet with business officials in the nation, as part of the Broadening Business Prospects scheme.

As a parting message alongside a gift of Skarmian Entinok, Minister Baepochin expressed his hope for future prosperity between both nations, and stated that he was excited to see the Senator the next time talks occurred between the two nations.

XI REMOVES TOP MILITARY OFFICIALS

Image
SHANGHAN - Secretary-General and Comrade President Xi Jingyi has fired more than four dozen military officials, including Minister of National Defense General Wei Shui and Director of the Political Work Department Admiral Feng Huang, as well as multiple top admirals in the People's Liberation Navy. The shift is a significant shakeup of the armed force's structure, with only a handful of officers retaining their positions. President Xi has stated that he will be replacing all the sacked officials with new commanders.

Representatives for President Xi have confirmed that a significant reason for the removals is the recent tensions in the Jinchon and Sancheon waterways in which several naval vessels engaged with civilian ships. President Xi and military officials maintain that all Yuaneze military entities acted in self-defensive measures, but nevertheless Xi has removed these officials over "disagreements with the conduct of some units in the Jinchon and Sancheon waterways."

"President Xi maintains that the Yuaneze government's position is to maintain peace in the region and put forth our interests," a representative said, "and the new structure of the military will be able to accomplish both of these goals."

With the replacement of Minister of National Defense Wei Shui, who was largely considered to be the second-in-command in Yuan, is notable because Wei Shui was chosen by the People's Assembly and his replacement will now likely be hand-selected by President Xi.

SULIFA NEWS NETWORK BROADCAST
Half of all Sulifa residents consider switching to electric vehicles, survey finds

About 52 per cent of Sulifa residents are considering switching to hybrid or electric vehicles as the increase in fuel prices is impacting the way consumers are thinking about their means of transportation, according to a survey by Suliauto.

Twenty-five per cent of people surveyed are waiting for more EV options to be launched before making a purchase, the research, which polled 1,000 residents in the Sulifan principalities, found.

“Interest in EVs has continued to grow organically over time, however increasing petrol prices has certainly accelerated the shift in consumers’ attitude towards EV adoption,” said Ausuf Abir, Suliauto general manager.

“When considering energy efficiency across the full lifecycle of producing, transporting and using fuel — typically referred to as “well to wheel” — electric vehicles offer high efficiency and the lowest carbon emissions per mile.”

There is a continuing global move towards the use of EVs that are charged from the electric grid as more consumers look to use transport powered by clean energy.

While petrol prices in Sulifa declined slightly in May, they rose by more than 10 per cent in February, 10 per cent in March and 16 per cent in April, as global oil prices surged beyond $100 a barrel.

The prices announced by the Sulifa Fuel Price Committee in April were the highest they have been since they were deregulated in 2015 to allow them to move in line with the market.

In 2020, prices were frozen by the Fuel Price Committee at the onset of the global trade decline. The controls were removed in March 2021 to reflect the movement of the market.

Industry experts expect crude supply to be tight as WEDA considers a ban on Yuaneze oil imports and expectations of higher demand in Zamastan, the world's largest economy, increase as the summer season looms.

The easing of the trade restrictions in Haduastan is also supporting crude prices.

About 14 per cent of those polled in the Sulifa said they recently bought a petrol car but wished they would have purchased a hybrid or EV instead, according to the survey findings.

“Depending on the type of car you drive, the average cost of filling a fuel tank can be upwards of Dh270 versus Dh8.25 to fully charge an EV battery with a 110 kWh charger. With EVs, owners also save on operating expenses,” Mr Abir said.

EV owners spend 60 per cent less on fuel than owners of internal combustion engine vehicles, according to a 2020 study. Owning an EV will save the typical driver $6,000 to $10,000 over the life of the vehicle, compared with owning a comparable petrol-powered vehicle, the study found.

Residents in the Sulifa Principalities are now planning their car journeys more carefully, with about 25 per cent saying they use public transport a lot more now, while 14 per cent of drivers have purchased an electric scooter or bike to use over short distances, the Suliauto survey revealed.

Remote and flexible working options are also helping people in Sulifa to mitigate rising fuel costs, with 19 per cent saving more on fuel expenses by working from home, the research found.

Green Union issues vote of no confidence against Mikhail Franko

Image

May 29, 2022
By Jaroslav Golovanov
Adrikagorod-11 days after the Slavic Labor League moved to impeach Green Union President Ulyana Agapova the Green Union retaliated by issuing a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Mikhail Franko, while the impeachment vote was dropped a few days ago after Yuaneze President Xi Jingyi ordered the navy to stand down, leading to Agapova ordering a release of the Linyii and her crew.

Despite the SLL standing down on impeaching Agapova the Green Union is fully committed to removing Franko from his position as Prime Minister, as this former alliance of parties has broken down massively over the last few weeks. The Green Union argues that since Franko was appointed by Agapova solely because of the Red-Green Alliance and that since the alliance has since collapsed Franko should no longer hold his position, while the SLL argues that since they hold a plurality of seats in both houses that they deserve a say in the government.

This motion of no confidence has inspired some SLL members to try to once again move to impeach Agapova in response, this situation is highly dangerous for both parties as both of them only need to convince a handful of politicians from the other parties in order for both of these to pass.

After months of dormancy after the overthrow of the Vozhd many former members of the Slavic Union Party have returned to the public eye, as several individuals who held prominent government roles under the dictatorship have formed the Vozroz Party (Vozroz being short for Vozrozhdeniye, Slavic for rebirth). Though for now they’ve remained within the democratic system it is feared they will make an attempt to overthrow the government given their vehemently anti-democratic positions.

While many members of Matvei Pavlov’s government were arrested and convicted for their actions in assisting his dictatorial regime some were either acquitted or didn’t face trial at all, such as the parties new Vozhd, Simon Pokrovskii, the former Minister of Education under Vozhd Maksim Borisov, who ruled from 2009 until early 2021. In addition Cyril Kryukov, a former Polkmarshall in the Shturmovik, has been chosen as the new Velikiymarshal of the newly formed Okhrana Zala, the parties paramilitary wing with the same name as the precursor to the Shturmovik, which from 1931 to 1940 acted as Nikifor Osipov’s personal guard.

President James Etémé welcomed President Aneya Raso to Apatonia.

President Etémé Welcomes Raso to Sifondo

President James Etémé welcomed North Timerian President Aneya Raso to Sifondo as the first foreign head of state to visit Apatonia post-civil war. The two leaders discussed the ongoing security situation in Apatonia, with Etémé accepting a proposal to welcome around 500 Timerian soldiers as part of the peacekeeping mission led by the Unified Sera Government. Additionally the two leaders discussed economic policies as Etémé seeks to expand Apatonia's connections with its neighbors, particularly with a bid to join the Trans Adula Fair Commerce Accord (TAFCA).

"We are honored by President Raso's presence, and I am confident that with the partnership of Timeria along with the continued efforts of the Unified Serans, Apatonia will rebound as a productive member of the South Adulan community," President Etémé said during their press conference held jointly.

Etémé's ambition to join TAFCA is a largely clear shot, as the membership processes have not been hindered in most regards despite the political situations in other nations. Additionally, Etémé has made it a point of his young administration to expand opportunities for the resurgence of international trade as shipping returns to the ports in Sifondo and Misamba.

Previous connections with the Timerian government became frayed at the onset of the civil war in 2017, and nearly completely evaporated by the point of Mlamuli Ngotsha's ouster by the since-exiled Prime Minister Michel Lukonde. As Timerian aid flows into the country to help the international recovery process with the installation of the new government, the relations seem to be on the mends.

COMMANDER OF ZMS CHARBONNEAU REMOVED FROM POST

Image
ZMS Charbonneau underway in the Jinchon Sea.

POLITICAL CORRESPONDANT: Travis Canterbury (@TCanterburyOfficial)
GANGKOU - The commander of the ZMS Charbonneau has been fired as the Navy's investigation into the Huangshan sinking continues to expand to individuals aboard the guided missle destroyer at the time of the incident two weeks ago. Commander Garvan McCoy, the first ranking officer aboard the guided missile destroyer, was initially placed on administrative leave following the sinking but today a Navy spokesperson confirmed that McCoy had been fired and replaced with another officer, Cpl Reason Bradley, who transferred from another ship in the 4th Fleet.

"Our investigation is ongoing, but what we are allowed to say is that Commander McCoy's conduct before, during, and after the incident with the Huangshan has come under question," a navy spokesperson stated. "We maintain fully that the Zamastanian naval forces operating in the area were well within their rights to engage with the Huangshan, and the Yuaneze navy repeatedly ignored our calls for them to exit Zamastanian waters and cease their live-fire exercises. In that regard, the ZMS Charbonneau was in the right to respond forcefully. The investigation is focused on whether that was the best course of action, which would be regrettable, and that's what we must ascertain."

On May 16th, 2022, the Yuaneze type-154 frigate Huangshan was sunk south of Gangkou in the Jinchon Sea, resulting in the deaths of 317 sailors. Participating in military exercises with the Shanghan Cooperation Alliance, the Huangshan and five other ships strayed into Gangkou territorial waters and began live fire drills, with more than 76 missiles aimed towards the populated areas of Gangkou. While no missiles hit land, some did come close to the shore, warranting the naval command under Admiral Ashton Sheppard to issue dozens of warnings to the Huangshan to cease fire and avert its navigational course. The Yuaneze ship ignored all warnings, and ultimately the ZMS Charbonneau struck the Huangshan with retaliatory hits. The ship sank in less than 8 minutes.

The ZMS Charbonneau (DDG 032) is a Zamastanian Percilius-class guided missile destroyer of the Zamastanian Naval Forces, at the time commanded by McCoy who had been chief officer aboard the vessel for 6 years. The Huangshan, along with other Yuaneze naval vessels, had been participating in the largest ever SCA naval exercise and were conducting live-fire exercises when they strayed into Gangkou territory. Satellite data published by the navy and authenticated by the Tofino Times showed at least 6 Yuaneze vessels entering the 50-mile threshold of Gangkou's territorial waters, with the Huangshan beginning a barage of fire which ultimately was directed towards the densely populated island. Transcripts from the 3rd Fleet vessels patrolling Gangkou were also released, confirming dozens of warnings to the Yuaneze vessels to turn around and cease fire.

"They [the Yuaneze vessels] responded to the warnings," said 3rd Fleet Admiral Ashton Sheppard, "and they indicated that they were quote 'within their right to continue their exercises'. When our communicators warned that their live fire presented a threat to the island, they responded assertively and told us that they would continue regardless of our warnings. This was subsequently met with an additional warning in which we stated retaliatory and deadly action would be taken if the ships did not comply. The ships did not comply, and we gave them additional warnings. They had every chance to heed those warnings, and they did not."

Sheppard detailed the rest of the engagement, saying that "fighter jets were scrambled to observe the Huangshan and its accompanying vessels, and they also delivered warnings which went unheeded. At a point roughly half an hour after the Huangshan began opening fire, our fleet command ordered the ZMS Charbonneau to engage in accordance with our warnings. The ZMS Charbonneau fired two missiles and neutralized the Huangshan, which has since sunk."

The ensuing crisis that escalated following the Huangshan's sinking led to several international ships, mostly cargo vessels but including a Kalean (Litchir) navy ship, being targetted and sunk by the Yuaneze navy. Over 300 people were killed in less than a week, including when a Parabocan passenger liner was shot down over the Sancheon Gulf. President Moreau and President Xi recently met in Alecburgh to mediate the crisis, and this week President Xi sacked nearly the entirity of his senior military officials and recalled his forces to port.

PRESIDENT MOREAU VISITS ELBRESIA

Image
President Atticus Moreau visited Elbresia on Monday, meeting with President Gilles Martin and other senior government officials.

POLITICAL CORRESPONDANT: Ryan Cesterne(@CesterneTofino)
ALLENGIN - President Atticus Moreau is in the Elbresian capital of Allengin meeting with President Gilles Martin and other senior government officials. Moreau is expected to address the Elbresian parliament and will also address the Nortuan Congress, which is the legislative body of the Alliance of Nortuan States. Among the topics discussed will be Elbresia's upcoming referendum over whether the Nortuan Congress should remain in the Elbresian capital as the opposition coalition in Elbresia's parliament consists of largely hardliner sovereigntists. Moreau has repeatedly backed the status and importance of the ANS, saying that "a united Eastern and Central Nortua is a dynamic economic, military, and cultural powerhouse that if abrupted would be severely damaging to the development of the region. Elbresia, a leading player in this organization, must maintain its symbolic position of authority in this regard."

The ANS was first proposed by the Besmenian delegation to the Pan-Nortuan Conference held in 1985 in the Elbresian city of Allengin as a means to promote interregional co-operation on topics such as trade, national security and immigration in the wake of the period of solid economic growth during the late 20th century. The Alliance was formally established on June 1st 1989 with the states of Besmenia, Elbresia, Versenia, Candatora and the Commonwealth of Arenor ratifying the A.N.S. Charter in the Besmenian city of Freiz. Since its inception, the ANS has greatly expanded both as a diplomatic instrument as well as one of interregional peacekeeping with several milestone acts of legislation coming into force such as a common extradition treaty, tax incentives for member businesses to expand their operations and interregional war games. The ANS' long term goals are for the establishment of a mutual currency, a free trade zone and relaxed border controls between member states.

Presidents Moreau and Martin visited a pharmacutical plant in Allengin's southern district, donning masks and observing the fruits of labor which is part of a joint project taken on by Zamastanian, Elbresian, and other Nortuan scientists as they seek to expand medicinal response to infectious diseases and other so-far untreatable conditions. While the benefits of Elbresian-Zamastanian relations have been seen on the scale of cooperation in factories like this, as well as partnership over the early endorsement of the Trade and Infrastructure Development Initiative (TIDI), many Elbresians have low approval of President Moreau.

Alexander Desende, a leading opposition figure in the Elbresian legislature, spoke with Tofino Times after writing a commentary for the Oftbon Journal in which he said the world was facing a "foreign policy rubble-field" left by the outgoing president Moreau.

"Since Moreau gave up defending his red lines, chemical weapons began being used nearly every day in the Syrarantoan war. Nortua was close to collapse, I sincerely believe," he said. The "red line" was Moreau's pledge of military action if Syrarantoan dictator Kyriakos Tasoulas used chemical weapons, something he later decided against. Eventually, Zamastanian warplanes participated in operations against the Tasoulas regime after a series of missile strikes hit Sotoan Basin Union nations, but Desende says that it was too little too late. After high expectations, a disillusioned air fell over Elbresia as Moreau quickly approaches his last 3 months in office.

SKARMIA TRADE DEAL MET WITH CONTROVERSY

Image
A bipartisan trade delegation travelled to the former UCSS state and laid out the framework for closer trade ties, even as concerns around Beleroskovian and Yuaneze cyber security attacks arise.

POLITICAL CORRESPONDANT: Ryan Cesterne(@CesterneTofino)
ZALSOKER - A bipartisan trade delegation led by Senator Averie Rutledge (GLP, Cayenne-1) arrived in the South Ausianan nation of Skarmia earlier in the week at the behest of the Zamastanian government, seeking to expand frameworks of trade deals with the former UCSS state. However optimistic the interactions may have been, externally the meetings were plagued by the political conditions in the region. Skarmia's leadership recently boasted support for the Yuaneze military during this month's deadly escalation of tensions in the Jinchon Sea, and last month they showed their approval of the military coup in neighboring Ossotia. Beyond that, skeptics have pointed to the pursuit of conformity with Beleroskov, a fact that has some in the State Department concerned as President Ubotrov of Beleroskov has increasingly sided with Yuan over Zamastan in many regards recently.

Meeting in the capital of Zalsoker, officials from Zamastan and Skarmia's financial represenations discussed increased trade relations as Senator Rutledge and Minister Soniis Baepochin, the Skarmian Minister of Trade, appeared for a joint press conference to highlight their optimism over the deals proposed. Rutledge made clear that his intentions were to deepen the ties between Skarmia and Zamastan on an economic front, which would be key to opening up more diplomatic discussion in the future.

Minister Baepochin highlighted the necessity of dialogue and openness between the two states, underlining long-term goals and continued stable relationship vouchers, Baepochin stated that "...it is of key importance to this government that Skarmia positions herself with her friends in mind."

During the envoy's visit, Senator Rutledge also visited with Prime Minister Repinin and Foreign Minister Filipov to outline diplomatic aims between the countries, with Prime Minister Repinin stating in a social media release that talks were "fruitful". Rutledge also spent some time travelling around major cities to meet with business officials in the nation, as part of the Broadening Business Prospects scheme.

Critics of the ambition, most of whom are conservative politicians in Congressional Hall, opposed Rutledge's envoy. Congresswoman Sabine Armitage, currently polled second to frontrunner Leanne Dale (GLP) in the September presidential election, stated that "while [Rutledge's] intentions are perhaps admirable, the simple fact of the matter is that Skarmia's government has perpetuated a cycle of adhearance to the former UCSS power and is conforming to a severely strict view of that regime's policy. They present a concern to the integrity of our alliances abroad and the work our nation puts into the pursuit of democracy and capitalism. I am extremely concerned that [Rutledge's] attempts may be in vain or, worse, compromised entirely."

Simon Pokrovskii was not close to an important man until very, very recently. When the Osipovist dictatorship that had stood for 80 years collapsed, so did the Slavic Union Party and the careers of those involved in the dictatorship, every single living former Vozhd was convicted and given a life sentence, dozens were put on trial for their roles in the dictatorship. After this the Slavic Union Parties leadership was decimated, any former leading figure from the party was either imprisoned or disillusioned with the ideology, leaving former Minister of Education Simon Pokrovskii as the only man for the job of leading Osipovism into a new age.

He didn’t immediately set out to become the new leader of Osipovism, instead just lying low while the new Slavic government tracked down those believed to have a major role in the previous governments countless crimes, Pokrovskii was taken into police custody, but his police file noted him as “the least interesting man I’ve ever met” and he was later released.

On March 11th of this year a group of Osipovist sympathizers gathered in Ivanovgrad outside of Nikifor Osipov’s childhood home, giving the Oath of Supreme Loyalty that was required for all government officials for years under the Osipovist regime, and formed the Vozroz Party, Vozroz being short for Vozrozdeniya, or rebirth. This group sought out a leader, a new Vozhd, and they found that leader in Simon Pokrovskii, even after all that had happened, he was still completely and totally dedicated to Osipovism. Pokrovskii accepted the position as Vozhd and began assembling his new party. The Adrikagorod Report has been able to secure an interview with a man who has already become the most controversial politician in the Slavic Union.

Adrikagorod Report: Many of your colleagues who avoided conviction like you did abandoned Osipovism, despite all that’s happened, why do you still have faith in the ideology?
Pokrovskii: When you take the Oath of Supreme Loyalty, you mean it, to take the Oath and then go back on it is to spit in the face of Vozhd Osipov, it is to spit in the face of your forefathers, it is spitting in the face of the Union itself, I promised I would be supremely loyal to the Vozhd, to Osipov, to the Union, for all of time, and I refuse to go back on this promise. I believed then and I believe now that Osipovism is the path forward to guarantee prosperity and strength for the nation.

Adrikagorod Report: Why did you choose to reform the Okhrana Zala? And why not name it the Shturmovik?
Pokrovskii: The Shturmovik…was legendary when I was a child…they were the boogeyman, they saw all…they protected all in the name of the Vozhd, but by the time I was a man they had withered, after Velikymarshal Matveyev was assassinated they lost that strong hand that was needed to maintain that reputation, they became bloated and corrupt. When I assumed Vozhdship of the party I knew a paramilitary wing was needed…and that the Shturmovik wasn’t going to be it, it needed to be reborn into the Okhrana Zala, to symbolize a new age, and that the corruption that consumed the Shturmovik was no longer acceptable.

Adrikagorod Report: You’ve chosen to venerate what you’ve called “heroes of the Union”, why not create a personality cult around yourself?
Pokrovskii: Everybody wants to be Osipov, everyone wants to be Milošević, everyone wants to be revered, but not everybody can be revered like that, I do not hold delusions of being some great savior, I am not the one saving the Union, the party is, Osipovism is. Our ancestors must be revered, they built this beautiful country, once I achieve power I will not hold the position of Vozhd, I will have Osipov named Eternal Vozhd, my rule will not be supreme, I will simply be a shepard for the beliefs of the great Vozhd.

Adrikagorod Report: Your veneration of Milošević is especially unusual among Osipovists, what’s the inspiration behind it?
Pokrovskii: Milošević was a great man, who deserves more respect than he does in the Union, he was crucial in the Great Vozhd’s rise to power, he was his man on the ground, doing the dirty work for him. And once the Vozhd did rise to power, Milošević was made the Velikymarshal, making him the de facto second most powerful man in the Union, and yet he decided to go to Kossmil to spread the gospel of Osipovism, he fought for Osipov his whole life, he is one of the great heroes of the Union.

Adrikagorod Report: If you do rise to power, will you maintain the democratic system?
Pokrovskii: Democracy is a weakness. Weakness is unacceptable. It tears nations to the ground, it neuters them. You can’t get anything done in a democracy, you can’t complete a five year plan if you get removed from office two and a half years into it. It just creates instability and squabbling, nobody can stop the president’s platform if the president can have you shot. It just doesn’t happen. A few weeks ago, the Reds and the Greens were good allies, now they’re trying to get each other removed from power, democracy just doesn’t work.

Referendum to Leave ANS Fails, Opposition Promises Rebound in Upcoming Election

Parliament voted along coalition lines to remain in the Alliance of Nortuan States, May 30th, 2022

President Gilles Martin's government is championing what they called a "close call vote" after the Parliament survived a deeply contested referendum which held the stakes of the Alliance of Nortuan States and Elbresian membership. In a 287-213 vote, Elbresia's parliament voted to remain in the ANS, and additionally passed an insurance bill which allows the Nortuan Congress to stay in Allengin. The opposition leader, Conservative Party MP Alexander Desende, pledged that his coalition would rebound in the July election and oust President Martin and the majority Liberal coalition, a pledge which Martin has vowed to ward off.

"Today's vote in parliament is proof that our country values the ties and connections and integrations we have made with the ANS over the past several decades," President Martin said while attending a joint-press conference with visiting Zamastanian President Atticus Moreau. "Mr. Desende has said that he will reverse this long standing commitment if he wins the July federal election. I can staunchly say that with his continued pursuit of abandoning our Nortuan allies, that prospect is unlikely, and I have every intention of retaining the Liberal Coalition's majority in parliament and my administration for a second term.

The referendum was sparked after Desende's senior party officials signed an open letter to the ANS Secretary-General, Harriet Mastersonn of Elbresia, as well as Deputy Secretary-General Jörg Rautenberg, of Besmenien. In the letter, they detailed their frustrations with specific policies of the ANS including the pursuit of a standardized currency, which member states have prospects to enact within the next few years. Desende and his group, termed in the Parliament as the "Exiteers" for their longstanding sentiments about leaving the ANS, finally pushed enough votes through for a vote to be held, but were unable to rally anyone outside of their coalition to join in the fray.

"We're disappointed in the outcome, yes, but we will continue to work towards our sovereignty," said MP Desende following the vote. "Frameworks and establishments are in place to take effect as soon as we leave the Alliance, and come July we will make that our first priority."

The federal elections, which would normally be scheduled for October 2023, have been pushed up to July 6th, 2022 following last year's restructuring referendum pushed through by Prime Minister Matviy Loka. While restructuring referendums are not unheard of, there has not been one in over thirty years. Loka's intentions are to secure a second term for President Martin and maintain the Liberal and Democrat Party-led majority coalition in parliament. However, some experts believe this effort may backfire as growing public lines are seen between right and left.

"It could very well be that the conservatives retake both Parliament and the Presidency," said Howard Afterbaan, Professor of Political Studies at Oftbon University. "There has been a trend since the 2019 election in which people who previously voted for Martin and the LDP are polled as being, quote, frustrated at their economic policies. While this doesn't have to do with the ANS specifically, it is a factor that the Conservative bloc is taking advantage of quite smartly. And this is a public referendum, not a parliamentary one, meaning the liberals can't rely on the votes of their MPs, they have to rely on their constituents. For that reason, this may be a difficult move for them."

SAINT RANEAU TIMES
BORDER WITH ZALLUABED CLOSED, SECURITY INCREASED

Continued bombings claimed by the HPLF in Zalluabed's major cities and lone wolf attacks in Albarine has spurred concern of a renewed conflict, prompting the government to close the border.

Albarinean border security has been increased at crossings along the Zalluabedi border.

SAINT RANEAU - Chancellor Sadie Melhaven issued an executive order effectively closing the border with Zalluabed and increasing permanent security and patrols. The order came as continued bombings and terror attacks claimed by the Hisrea People's Liberation Front (HPLF) across Zalluabed, specifically in the capital of Zakaraban and the major port of Kurdajar, which is the largest city near Albarine's border. Cross-border attacks have also become a staple in recent months as the HPLF has targeted Albarinean soldiers and citizens alike. A shooting at a restaurant earlier in the year was the latest in a string of attacks by lone-wolf HPLF affiliates, and all of the attackers entered under the guise of refugees.

"We will still be admitting refugees into Albarine, but we will process them at stations at the border," Chancellor Melhaven said. "Unfortunately that will result in delays and longer waits, and I sympathize deeply with those seeking to find safety, but the matter of fact is that our nation has been rocked with deadly attacks by those who abuse our systems of compassion. As such, taking more measures to ensure our safety also ensures the safety of those finding refuge in our nation."

An additional three thousand soldiers will be sent to border stations along Zalluabed and Buckingla, both of which have experienced sporadic terror attacks in recent months. The HPLF, designated as a terror group by Albarine and her allies, has been granted safehaven in the westernmost portion of the Hisrean province due to the effects of the Osea Accords. Those peace deals, signed in August of last year, were hailed by the Zalluabedi government as being a way to bring peace to the region, but Albarine and other governments criticized it as a way of legitimizing the group.

The Osea Accords was a peace treaty signed in Osea, Timeria by representatives of the government of Zalluabed and the Hisrean People's Liberation Front on August 13th, 2021, which formally ended the Hisrea War. It established a power-sharing agreement in order to end the hostilities, allowing for an autonomous zone in Hisrean province to be administered by the HPLF, while adding stipulations that they could not hold a certain degree of military force. Those promises have all but collapsed.

The HPLF is associated with the terrorist group al-Fijar. While the administrative figureheads of the organization are not extremely militant, the armed wing known as the Irsani group is extremely radical.

CERFBEER RESIGNS AMID GROWING ENERGY AND SUPPLY CRISIS
Chancellor Matthias Cerfbeer has stepped down two years into his second term as Jyau's energy and supply crisis deepens.

Chancellor Cerfbeer announces his resignation, Tuesday May 31, 2022.

Chancellor Matthias Cerfbeer has resigned amid continuing energy and supply chain shortages, which have plagued Jyau for over two years but reached a new level of crisis last week after Jyau's energy grid completely failed, leaving the nation in the dark for two days straight. In an address at the Presidential Palace, Cerfbeer officially resigned and transferred his Chancellor powers to the parliament.

"The honor of my life has been to serve this nation," Cerfbeer said from the Presidential Palace, "but I recognize the conditions have strained the trust the public held with me. I am resigning effective immediately and the executive powers will be transferred to the Parliament until a referendum for a new chancellor can be established."

Last month, Cerfbeer and other Jyaueze authorities admitted that they couldn't keep up with demand for new passports and indefinitely stopped issuing them, as the country’s worsening economic crisis continued to push people to leave the country. Jyau's General Security Organisation (GSO) announced on April 30th that the number of passports it had available to issue had dwindled, even as requests for new passports had increased tenfold over the past two years. The body said that appointments for the issuance or renewal of passports would therefore be suspended. It also added that the Jyaueze government had been asked to pay a company contracted to produce more passports, but that it had not done so.

The economic situation in Jyau has deteriorated significantly over the past several months. Supply chain issues saturated an already disrupted market and that translated into an energy crisis as power stations struggled to keep up with demand. Blackouts are a frequent occurrence nowadays, and many shops and groceries sit empty while the average Jyaueze citizen rely on community backup generators.

In less than three years, the Jyau pound has lost 90 percent of its value, and three-quarters of the population has been plunged into poverty. Many Jyaueze blame the country’s ruling sectarian political parties, banks, and private sector cronies for decades of systematic corruption, financial mismanagement, and poor economic planning. The GSO had tried to ease pressure at their offices by setting up online appointments, but while that helped with crowd control, it did not ease demand.

63 percent of Jyaueze would like to permanently leave the country in the face of worsening living conditions. The brain drain is affecting multiple sectors – including the already crippled health sector, with the Coalition Health Organization estimating that at least 40 percent of doctors and 30 percent of nurses have left the country.

The government is under pressure to resolve long-standing labour standoffs with unions across the country as shortages of oil and wheat mean that the food crisis has made millions hungry.
