Oh, there were pastors who were arrested. It was for violating COVID rules. I do also recall a spate of churches being burned down - I don't remember exactly why, but it was terrible. All things considered though I count myself lucky to be in this country when I could be in many other places...

So Singh wants to legalize magic mushrooms if he gets elected as PM. While I got no big gripes against trudeau Jr. even with his ass-alt rifle ban, that only affects the military LARPing community in Canada which I dont care for, I think decriminalizing across the board makes the most sense. Theres really no sense in locking addicts up in the prison system when they should really be going through the rehab system. I might actually vote NDP next election. Meaning the only party left that Ive never voted for as the Bloc Quebecky, the people's (dont say this quiet part out loud, "racist") party of canada, and the climate denial boomer party/Conservative party of Canada.

im glad the religious privileged is being shut down in Canada, religious beliefs shouldnt be an excuse to breaking the law.

The NDP has by far the best drug platform, given that both the Liberals and Conservatives have abandoned even the tiniest notion of helping users and are committed to continuing the extremely discriminatory War on Drugs, which only targets marginalized communities.

Right? And what has me most excited with Singh's drug platform is theres research coming out that stuff like Shrooms and LSD HELP with drug addiction. So legalizing drugs lets people use drugs that get them off drugs.

I think the church burnings had to do with the mass graves being discovered at the residential schools, a lot of them happened shortly after to denominations that were directly linked to them.

It was still horrible and there was no justification for the burnings whatsoever, but it's not like we have a habit of burning churches. We, contrary to what Rick Perry is alluding to, do not randomly set fire to churches for fun.

Premier Kenney barely won the UCP leadership review, but has decided to resign from the leadership of the UCP.

Say what you will about how he ran Alberta, but at least in Alberta there is a thriving two-party system now. Can't say the same about Saskatchewan.

I'll believe that when it appears in federal elections, which it has yet to do.

As someone who doesn't want people to suffer, I want someone better than him to replace him so that he can maybe undo some of the damage that Jason Kenney has done before the next provincial election.

As an NDP partisan who wants to be absolutely sure that the NDP will win the next provincial election in Alberta, I want someone worse than Jason Kenney to replace him so that the NDP has a guaranteed shot at winning.

I will take your word for it: while I've been exposed to Alberta politics through Twitter, I don't understand it as much as I do my own.

Which, speaking of, the outgoing Saskatchewan NDP leader will step down as MLA for Saskatoon Meewasin, and a by-election will be held.

I think Brian Jean is a former Wildrose (more right-wing conservative party) party member, while Jason Kenney is a former PC (more moderate conservative party) member.

In provincial news, The Ontario NDP is calling for the Liberal candidate in Chatham-Kent-Leamington to be removed from the ballot

The NDP alleges that the Liberals just copypasted signatures from the previous candidate onto the new one's filing.

Now time for more far left groups to do this to milquetoast centrists in both Canada and the US. Payback for Wisconsin! They can use the same kind of BS technicalities that the Wisconsin Dems did.

Because they know what rubes some of the masses are. They're hoping that they'll drown out the voices of reasonable alarm as "paranoid."

The thing to remember about the Liberals (and small-l liberals too, for that matter) is that they genuinely do believe that - they think they're the responsible stewards of government power in the room. They are also sloppy, disinterested legislators. This is a government, after all, that even with a progressive supermajority in Parliament took three tries over as many years to pass a conversion therapy bill. Instead of building proper oversight measures - which would be hard - they create these incredibly broad bills under the rosy assumption that they'll be in power to manage the ways these bills get put into operation without the need for complex legislation and regulation.

The problem of course is that they never stay in power indefinitely, and these sloppy laws can and will get used by bad actors for their own ends. shocked_pikachu.gif from the Libs of course when that happens.
