"We believe this resolution is a good start to attacking noise pollution, however, we are concerned with the lack of establishment over a maximum acceptable Db level."

Not exactly well-written, plus you got a lot of broad and arbitrary definitions. If you want to write quality drafts, read this guide: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=159348

Version 2.0

Postby Chinese USSR » Sun May 15, 2022 10:13 am

Nations of the World Assembly,

Noise Pollution is the propagation of noise with ranging impacts on the activity of human or animal life, most of them harmful to a degree.

NOTING that Noise Pollution can cause human illnesses such as coronary artery disease.

BELIEVING there are things we can do about this.

FURTHER NOTING that Noise Pollution can also cause many other human diseases

FURTHER BELIEVING that if we actually attempt to stop this, that we can prevent noise pollution.

EVEN FURTHER NOTING Today, the average noise level of 98 decibels (dB) exceeds the suggested value of 50 dB allowed for residential areas.

EVEN FURTHER BELIEVING A dB level of around 50-60 is acceptable, as a constant rate of 70 can lead to hearing damage

HEREBY,

Article 1. Vehicles

1a. Car companies are required to lower the dB level of car engines.

2a. Airports are required to be built a minimum of 4 Miles away from pre-built residential areas. If a residential area is built after the airport construction starts, the residential area must be built at least 4 miles away

(Pre-built residential areas being used as a housing area that was already started or completed in construction before the Airport begins construction)

Article 2. Regular Life

1b. Nations either need to ban firecrackers, or limit when they can be bought and used.

2b. Nations are required to prosecute anybody for “disturbing the peace” or playing playing radios, loudspeakers, and televisions at dangerously high volumes.

(Prosecute: institute legal proceedings against (a person or organization))

3b. Construction crews are required to use less noisy equipment*, and use proper cut saw use practices

*Putting a wall or a closed box around a machine can keep some of the noise inside. Sometimes the box is only put around the noisiest part of a machine. The wall or box should be made of material that absorbs sound, such as cork, rubber, felt, or foam

Effects of Sound Pollution:

I) loud noise can cause great harm to our ears. Constant loud noise reduces the hearing power of our ears. loud noise can even damage ears permanently and cause deafness.

II)Loud noise can cause a person to lose concentration in his work or studies.

III) loud noise can cause an ailment called Hypertension.

(High blood pressure (hypertension) is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.)

IV) loud noise can cause irritation and headache.

V) loud noise during night time disturbs our sleep. Continued lack of sleep is bad for health

Nations are also encouraged to take up their own defenses against it as well

and so, in conclusion:

Noise pollution is dangerous for human health, and there are many defenses against it. Nations simply need to invest into it in order to save the populations ears.

"Our concerns appear to not have been addressed in regards to a maximum level of allowed decibel output, in reference to article 1a and 2b. Still strongly against this resolution."

Make your edits in the OP instead of putting them in the middle of the thread and hence they get lost.

[Draft] Noise Pollution Prevention Version 2.5

Postby Chinese USSR » Sun May 15, 2022 12:56 pm

HEREBY,

Article 1. Vehicles

1a. Car companies are required to lower the dB level of car engines. Car engines at average are above 80 dB, they need to be lowered to a maximum of 75 dB

2a. Airports are required to be built a minimum of 4 Miles away from pre-built residential areas. If a residential area is built after the airport construction starts, the residential area must be built at least 4 miles away

(Pre-built residential areas being used as a housing area that was already started or completed in construction before the Airport begins construction)

1b. Nations either need to ban firecrackers, or limit when they can be bought and used.

2b. Nations are required to prosecute anybody for “disturbing the peace” or playing playing radios, loudspeakers, and televisions at dangerously high volumes. "High volumes" are considered anything above 80 dB

OOC: While you made the requested changes I had, why did you feel the need to create an entire new thread for the same resolution? That just seems wasteful. It's better to centralize all discussion on a resolution to one thread, instead of splitting it into multiple.

It seemed easier to create a new thread then have the updated version get lost in the old thread

Nope. One thread per resolution. Merged.

The standard practice is to leave all earlier versions in the opening post (OP) under spoilers, and edit in changes / new versions.

Great topic that could be addressed, I just have concerns over the way it's written. Cut vague/meaningless clauses ("BELIEVING we can do something about this"...of course we can, we're the WA), and remove parenthetical clauses and asides. Clarify is the magic word. The effects of noise pollution are far more appropriate for a preambulatory clause, for example. Think about it like the logical flow of an argument. Your preambulatory clauses are for laying out the situation, your evidence, grounds for what you want done, with each one with its own level of importance and significance. There is no such thing as a filler preambulatory clause.

Next, you've got your operative clauses. This is about what you do. Nothing more, nothing less. Make sure all of your operative clauses are realistic (for example, how are we supposed to deal with airports that already exist within 4 miles of a residential area? Move the airport? Move the residential area?). As a general guideline (and in many ways the true balancing act of this all), think: "if I was a nation affected by this policy, how difficult would it be to put these requirements into place?"

Start by setting up your outline in the form of evidence/grounds/context for your preambulatory clauses and your policy for your operative clauses. You've got a really cool topic on your hand, and you seem like you've got some good ideas, it's just a matter of organizing them in a cohesive way.

OOC: Even considering that fact, that portion is still better than its previous version. The previous version didn't have a maximum decibel level.

change DRAFT to SUBMITED

Postby Nominicia » Tue May 17, 2022 4:31 pm

On a Nation States proposal if you have not submitted have it as draft. I looked and you did submit it. For proposals already submitted use submitted instead of draft. >:(

OOC: Was it submitted? If so, I don't think this resolution has...as I would say, 'stirred the pot' enough for it to go into submission. What if other people had feedback who hadn't seen this proposal yet? That's why resolutions can sometimes take years to perfect, due to the immense amount of feedback, legalities, etc. that must be addressed.
